PCGamesN Thursday, August 4, 2022 12:25 PM The FFXIV Island Sanctuary update might be giving players of the MMORPG their own Animal Crossing getaways sooner than expected. If you've ever felt like Final Fantasy XIV wasn't relaxing enough, the new mode - which seems to resemble life games such as Stardew Valley - promises an opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle to explore and develop your own personal island. The FFXIV 6.2 special site has been updated with additional details ahead of Live Letter 72 on August 12, which is expected to break down the upcoming patch in full. Among the details is a short section on Island Sanctuary - which, most intriguingly, is listed as a "patch 6.2" feature, suggesting that it may be arriving with the late August update. Previously, the tropical paradise was said to be coming with patch 6.25 further down the line. Adding to this release date speculation is the fact that the closing bullet points for the article do not list patch 6.25 next to Island Sanctuary, but do for other features we know to be scheduled for later updates. PCGamesN Thursday, August 4, 2022 12:04 PM While there is no Elder Scrolls 6 release date yet, we finally have our first official look at the game courtesy of a short teaser trailer. The video opens with the classic musical motif from the series and a panning shot of some mountains before the logo appears, confirming that The Elder Scrolls 6 is real, at least. We might have been spoilt by excellent games in the series already, but, frankly, it's time for something fresh. It'll be fresh for a while post-release, too: Bethesda director says we'll be sinking our teeth in The Elder Scrolls 6's gameplay "for a decade at least". PCGamesN Thursday, August 4, 2022 11:48 AM Want to know how to unlock secret characters in Vampire Survivors? When you start your first run you only have a handful of Vampire Survivors characters and a few weapons available. However, on each playthrough, more items, weapons, and characters unlock for you to use in future attempts. These items are vital if you wish to use Vampire Survivor weapon evolutions to maximise a weapon's damage output for the best Vampire Survivors build. The game also locks new characters behind requirements, such as leveling up your gear to a certain threshold, finding items in a level, or slaying a quota of monsters. Later on, you can also find Arcana to give your weapons unique bonuses to annihilate your foes. Some of these unlock conditions are vague and confusing, so we thought we'd list how you can get all of the Vampire Survivors characters, weapons, items, and levels. We also have a cheat code that you need to type to get another hidden vampire slayer and steps to access other secret characters. PCGamesN Thursday, August 4, 2022 11:10 AM The Back 4 Blood DLC 2 release date has been set for late August, with the second expansion for the zombie game, Children of the Worm, adding act five to the campaign and a new playable character along with new enemies, weapons, accessories, skins, cards, and more. Children of the Worm also introduces the much-anticipated bear traps to the FPS game's roster of deadly tools. Children of the Worm is set to release on August 30, developer Turtle Rock Studios announced on the game's official Twitter page. The tweet includes a screenshot showcasing a sneak peek of the many additions that players can expect to get their hands on when the new DLC launches. The expansion will be included in the game's annual pass, which was also provided to owners of the deluxe and ultimate editions, or can be purchased separately. Leading the charge is a new playable cleaner: a flamboyantly moustachioed man with a shaved head who goes by the moniker "Prophet" Dan - described as "a gun toting, self-proclaimed preacher of the end times." Also much anticipated will be act five of the game's main story campaign, which the image appears to show includes a total of six individual stages. PCGamesN Thursday, August 4, 2022 10:53 AM Has the Digimon Survive karma system got your morality tied in knots? While we've long become used to making choices in videogames, Digimon Survive's karma system is the backbone of the entire digital world. From digivolution to recruitment, the influence of your Digimon Survive karma alignment casts a wide net – it's even the deciding factor for the ending in this turn-based strategy game. The Digimon Survive karma system is split into three alignments: Moral, Wrathful, and Harmony. Not every decision will affect your Digimon Survive karma, but each significant choice you make will affect your alignment. Moral choices are closely aligned to the principles of sacrifice and justice, whereas Wrathful choices neglect your companions in favour of working towards the goal at hand. Conversely, Harmony choices prioritise companions and facilitate cooperation over conflict. Read on to find out how each Digimon Survive karma alignment affects your playthrough. |

PCGamesN Thursday, August 4, 2022 10:00 AM I have mixed feelings as I write this Two Point Campus review. On the one hand, it can be tedious having to constantly repeat the same tasks at the start of every campaign level. But, on the other hand, the day-to-day management of each university is joyous, with constant gags and charming good looks camouflaging some fiendish gameplay twists that require all of my grey matter to overcome. The general aim in every level is to get students through the academic year, achieving high grades and keeping smiles on their faces. You have a checklist of goals to achieve, and completing them nets you stars, which you can use to progress to the next level. Every level introduces a new academic course, and each one is based entirely on a pun. In Two Point Campus, jokes are everywhere you look, from your students' goofy get-up to course names that even fans of groan-worthy zingers will roll their eyes at. There's a curriculum for suspender-wearing swots who want to look back at how technology used to work called 'Internet History', while 'Funny Business' is a qualification for aspiring clowns - and yes, red noses, silly wigs, and comedy flowers must be worn by students at all times. Although some objectives are remarkably similar to those in Two Point Hospital, such as maintaining happiness and meeting quotas, each campus usually has one themed challenge to make it feel entirely unique. We've got information on all the legendary items that match up well with the best builds, along with details on how to farm the most sought-after gear. As of Season 2's debut, a whopping 36 Diablo Immortal legendary items have been added to the RPG game, for a total of six additional items per class. While there are a few additions that allow for more varied experimentation, we don't believe any of the latest batch of goodies dropped by Blizzard can topple the legendary items we've listed below. PCGamesN Thursday, August 4, 2022 10:58 AM League of Legends is complex. At the time of writing, you have the choice of 160 different champions to play while you contest the Rift. At what point does Riot call it a day on adding new options for players? According to Leung-Harrison "[Riot] have still got a lot of flex to go". |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, August 4, 2022 11:00 AM Ice Code Games may have called it Hard West 2, but 'round these parts we refer to it as "The Laughing Deer Show". New to town, are ya? Let me clue you in. Laughing Deer is a six-foot man of raw muscle and rage, a native American warrior with shoulders like a pair of yoked oxen and a personality best described as "barely contained". Unlike the rest of his posse, which includes a cowboy without a shadow, a woman with ties to the occult, and one very stubborn corpse, Laughing Deer doesn't really "do" guns. While his compatriots are all crouched behind crates, ricocheting bullets off buckets and wheelbarrows to hit enemies from behind, Laughing Deer is getting in their faces (shortly before his club gets significantly further into their faces). Now, bringing a club to a gunfight might not seem like the smartest idea. But while pistols require two of a gunslinger's action points to shoot, and rifles take all three, it only takes one action point to whack some neckerchief-wearing bandit with a big ol' stick. And Laughing Deer whacks a whole point of damage harder than normal, meaning he can rush foes and nail them into the ground with a couple of hard swings before they can pull the trigger. Better yet, killing an enemy completely refills a character's action points in Hard West, meaning that, when set up right, Laughing Deer can ping around the battlefield like a weaponised pinball. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, August 4, 2022 11:00 AM Apex Legends: Hunted is soon to release, and leading the charge is Vantage - the youngest Legend ever inducted (or abducted) into the Apex Games. Take a closer look at her dangerous-sounding abilities in the new Apex Legends vignette trailer below. Read more |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, August 4, 2022 11:00 AM I'm back from my holidays to record The Electronic Wireless Show podcast once again, and I've brought a reader email and a new tattoo of Murray from Monkey Island with me. These are both relevant, because the email from James suggests that we talk about the games that we'd like to play for the first time again - just erase them from our heads and encounter them anew. Thus, we discuss Lucasarts games like the Monkey Island series. See, I tied it all together. In fact, I'm not sure if I'd wipe Monkey Island from my head or not, because I can't be sure how much of my love for it is fuelled by nostalgia. Matthew has other concerns, though, because as is our usual fashion we spend some time discussing the question "what games would you play for the first time again?" more literally than is intended. What grave consequences would come from erasing certain things from your brain? What sort of person would co-host Nate be if he wiped the Civ games from his memory? Listen in to find out. Read more |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, August 4, 2022 10:00 AM Two Point Campus trades the operating rooms of its predecessor Two Point Hospital for lecture theatres and decrepit dorms. But its foundations remain the same: you're a manager with a budget and you've got to turn the fortunes of increasingly prestigious – and in some cases, bonkers – institutions around. Of course, this time you're not dealing with injured mummies and lazy surgeons, you're in charge of running university campuses (campi?) and ensuring they deliver a solid education. The job of a university president is a pretty relaxed affair, which means you're able to soak in the joys of watching your oddball students grow. But this leniency means it struggles to reward you for constructing a campus that's uniquely yours. Read more |

Siliconera Thursday, August 4, 2022 12:00 PM The Steam Deck will have its first regional expansion to East Asia. Valve revealed that it is working with Komodo to bring the Steam Deck to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. All three models of the portable console are available to pre-order in those countries and regions. In Japan, the base 64GB model is available at ¥59,800 (~$449), the 256GB model at ¥79,800 (~$599), and the 512GB model at ¥99,800 (~$749). The prices are higher than in the U.S., where Valve priced the three models at $399, $529, and $649, respectively. The cooperation between Valve and Komodo will not be limited to the Steam Deck's distribution. The company will set up a large booth dedicated to the portable console at Tokyo Game Show 2022. Japan's annual gaming event will have a physical-and-digital hybrid format, and it will take place on September 15-18, 2022. Valve has yet to announce the East Asian release date, but the TGS 2022 presentation will help introduce the console to the Japanese public ahead of its release. The Steam Deck first appeared in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the European Union in late February 2022. The portable game console will soon make its way to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. While Valve still plans to bring Steam Deck to more countries and regions, it advised people living in those locations to wait for further information. His family is staying in the Assou village in Kyushu due to his father's business trip. Other than the main story plot involving a mysterious professor, the game will also have many other activities, such as fishing, farming, DJing, and a dinosaur fighting game. Siliconera Thursday, August 4, 2022 10:00 AM From my time with its early hours, Soul Hackers 2 feels like the logical accumulation of the many lessons that Atlus learned with its recent SMT-related games. The majority of the game still consists of dungeon crawling. However, having three human party members with their own goals and distinct personalities hooks players hoping for a substantial story. Meanwhile, the difficulty and general structure of the game's progression can endear it to fans of classic SMT games. The gist of the story is that Ringo and Figue are artificial humans that AION created. AION is essentially a super-computer that has predicted the end of the world. To stop it, it creates Ringo and Figue and sends them to the human world. Once there, Ringo uses Soul Hack to revive Arrow, Milady, and Saizo. All three of them are Devil Summoners that Ringo believes are instrumental in stopping the apocalypse. [gallery link="file" ids="933131,933132,933133"] In combat and gameplay, the three humans also help to keep players engaged. I am not a fan of aimless dungeon crawling. However, as the Soul Matrix unlocked more information on the pasts of my enigmatic allies, it became less a chore and more an extension of the main story, a new way to get to know my people. All four members often talk to each other in battle. The exchanges range in tone, from encouraging and rebuking tones. While it can get old hearing the same lines over and over, it was still an engaging form of background noise. Milady and Arrow's occasional cat-and-dog spats over enemy weaknesses were also amusing. As for the difficulty of the game, it is accessible enough to not be immediately overwhelming. However, it has a bit of a learning curve for those who are not used to SMT and its iterations. Indeed, as someone who was more of a Persona fan, and whose exposure to "classic" SMT difficulty amounts a few hours of Nocturne, my army of demons was sorely lacking. It took me a while to start to focus more on creating specialized demons rather than sweepers, as well as keep track of what I already had in my arsenal. Granted, the game is rather forgiving. You will seldom have trouble with the random mobs, and the game's autosave before boss fights means you probably will not have to redo any progress even if you lose. [gallery columns="2" link="file" ids="933135,933136"] There was one issue worth mentioning that shouldn't be a problem for most users. That's because Atlus is already working on a Day One patch to solve it. The issue is that the default camera angle always presented Ringo at a slight angle rather than hovering directly behind her. It made going through the dungeons disorienting at times. As well, the mini-map super-imposed on the screen can make the screen very busy. This is especially bad in some of the larger dungeons, such as the second floors of everyone's Soul Matrix. [gallery columns="1" link="file" ids="933137"] Soul Hackers 2 feels like the best of both worlds so far. It has enough story content and character intrigue to keep an average JRPG fan interested, but with just the right level of challenge to potentially satisfy a veteran Shin Megami Tensei player. The majority of it is still dungeon crawling though, so players will likely find themselves needing to enjoy the combat and exploration elements of the game, as much as the actual plot and characters. Soul Hackers 2 will come out on August 25, 2022 in Japan and August 26, 2022 for North America on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. Look forward to Siliconera's official review closer to release. The post Preview: Soul Hackers 2 Balances Challenge and Story appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Thursday, August 4, 2022 9:00 AM The Reminiscent Regimen event is now live in the Golden Apple Archipelago in Genshin Impact. It will remain open until August 15, 2022. Players will need to be over Adventure Rank 32, as well as complete the "Summertime Odyssey: I" quest, in order to participate. There will be three different types of challenges, with a new one unlocking every day for the first six days. The three types of challenges in the Reminiscent Regimen Genshin Impact event are Descent, Raid, and Convoy. You can play the event, which is co-op only, with a custom co-op group or match with random players. Descent challenges are ones where you float down from the sky and fight opponents on floating platforms. Raid challenges place you in a Waverider and you have to reach the goal within the time limit. You also need to board platforms to defeat the enemies on them. Finally, Convoy challenges have you protect a Driftstone Raft. It needs to reach a designated spot without the enemies destroying it. Aside from Reminiscent Regimen, there are still other ongoing events available in Genshin Impact. For example, there is Hidden Strife, which presents various battles as challenges. The next event, Evermotion Mechanical Painting, will start on August 12 and end on August 22, 2022. Genshin Impact is readily available worldwide on PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. Reminiscent Regimen will run until August 15, 2022. The post Genshin Impact Reminiscent Regimen Event Will Have 3 Parts appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Thursday, August 4, 2022 8:00 AM SNK has released Mega Man: Battle & Fighters on the Nintendo Switch. Even though Mega Man is Capcom's franchise IP, the Nintendo Store entry lists SNK as the publisher. This game is part of the latter's initiative to bring ports of NeoGeo Pocket Color games to the Switch. This compilation consists of two NeoGeo Pocket Color games — Mega Man: The Power Battle and Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters. While Capcom had included the arcade versions of both games in Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium (now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch), the NeoGeo Pocket Color versions feature 8-bit pixel graphics. The compilation still includes bosses from the first to seventh Mega Man games. Bass and Mega Man 8's Duo also join Mega Man and Proto Man in the playable character roster. Meanwhile, Capcom is preparing another project to revitalize the Mega Man franchise. In late June 2022, the company revealed Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection. The newest compilation in the Legacy Collection series for the Mega Man franchise will contain all six mainline Battle Network iterations from the Game Boy Advance, including the two different versions for the later titles. Capcom will release it for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC in 2023. Mega Man Battle & Fighters is now available on Nintendo Switch. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, August 4, 2022 12:00 PM Gloomwood is a dark and stealthy horror first-person shooter inspired by games from the '90s. Its blocky art style and Gothic environments quickly bring to mind games like Nightmare Creatures, and it's likely been on the radar of shooter fans for a few years now. Unfortunately, the developers of Gloomwood have now announced a short delay to its early access release date, courtesy of actor Malcolm McDowell, but it should hopefully be worth the wait. In a post on the official Steam store page for Gloomwood, the developers explain the reasons behind the brief delay. It reads: "Hello patient denizens of Gloomwood, I bring a bit of news. Due to some unforeseen game development issues that have cropped up over the last few months, as well as several of our developers falling sick to (COVID) we've made the decision to push back the Gloomwood Early Access release date. But only by 3 weeks. To September 6th." The developers continue by saying, "extra time will allow u... |
