PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 1:24 PM Krafton is adding mountain bikes to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, so you'll soon be able to pop a wheelie while others are duking it out to be the last one standing. Mountain bikes are arriving in update 15.1, which is on the test server at the time of writing, alongside an improved Sanhok map and various weapon tweaks. You'll stumble across folded up mountain bikes around any one of PUBG's maps. You can hit a sprint to gather momentum before jumping to put your BMX skills to the test. Don't worry, the option to wheelie is also there - hold sprint and tap the jump button, and you'll be bunny hopping to your heart's content. Well, once you've learnt some balance. PUBG's mountain bikes are also immortal, it turns out. They have an infinite amount of health points, so players can't destroy them. They're also dead quiet, so they have a few advantages over your average vehicle. Mountain bikes aren't just a solo adventure, though, as you can take one passenger with you while you bunny hop to victory. RELATED LINKS: PUBG new map, PUBG weapons, Play PUBG |
PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 12:36 PM Amazon Games' New World has been having a rough time, economically speaking. Players have discovered several ways to duplicate gold, and the developers have even gone so far as to shut the MMORPG's economy down at least twice. Now it seems a plan to compensate players for lost gold has resulted in huge, unexplained sums showing up in their accounts, and the studio has switched New World's EU servers into maintenance mode while it gets to the bottom of the issue. Earlier today, a post in the New World forums claimed that more than 300,000 gold had been added to a player's game account. While other forum users initially dismissed the post as casual trolling, other players reported members of their companies also receiving huge lump sums of gold, between 100,000 and 300,000 apiece. Pneuma, a New World community moderator, replied to the original post, simply saying "Congratulations!" Shortly after that, community manager Tosch posted an announcement that the EU Central Region worlds had been put into maintenance mode as the dev team investigated "the currently ongoing coin compensation for players". PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 12:31 PM What are the best Minecraft mods? It's a question that's been asked for generations – ever since a young Plato attempted to tweak his game at the knee of Socrates. Or something. As new Minecraft mods have been steadily flowing out since the game's first public release almost a decade ago, there's a whole heap to choose from. Minecraft is a blocky phenomenon. It's the only game to ever exist that allows you to construct a castle the height of Jack's famous beanstalk and fall through an increasingly challenging abyss for an eternity - but it could do with some Minecraft mods to improve things. From interface changes to tools to aid your hours of exploration, you have the option to make Mojang's classic even better on PC. The following list compiles some of the best Minecraft mods out there right now. All are divided into sections, depending on what you want to do with the game – from simple changes to deep, intricate Minecraft mods you can get lost in for months. PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 12:25 PM 'Black Friday' season has begun, and there are plenty of gaming PC deals already out there in the wild. Traditionally the best gaming headsets, mice, gaming monitors, and SSDs are usually reduced to their lowest price on the big day, but since Black Friday now practically spans the whole month of November, you won't need to wait to grab a bargain on the best gaming keyboard. Why exactly should you get a gaming keyboard over the standard beige rectangle dossed around the workplace? Those everyday keyboards can only handle an average of two inputs at once, which can be problematic when you want to dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge out of your enemy's way, throw a grenade, and swap weapons in quick succession. The benefits don't end there either, as gaming keyboards often come with faster response times, comfortable wrist rests, macro keys, media buttons, RGB lighting, a choice of different kinds of switches, and plenty more goodies, too. PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 12:05 PM WW2 grand strategy game Hearts of Iron IV has just received a new expansion - No Step Back - which brings about a lot of changes that so far seem to elevate the game to new heights. In one respect this is proving literal, because the strategy game has just set a new concurrent player record, according to SteamDB. Hearts of Iron IV has achieved a new all-time high of 68,019 concurrent players in the period since its launch this week. The previous record was set in February 2019 with 46,806 and, while there have been other spikes since then which have come close, only last night's release firmly managed to break the record. Even SteamDB's active figure for concurrent players at the time of writing is better than the 2019 record at 56,988. While SteamDB doesn't tell us the whole picture - it doesn't cover other platforms, for example - even taking this specific slice of information the war game seems to be doing very well right now. It's already been identified as Paradox's most popular strategy game, and during the recent Q3 earning calls CEO Fredrik Wester specifically mentioned how Hearts of Iron IV player numbers had been growing since its launch five years ago. PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 11:49 AM What is the new Minecraft axolotl? In case you're not familiar with these adorable amphibians, the axolotl is a real creature that lives in caves. Axolotls are an incredibly rare species of salamander and are actually critically endangered. They are native to the Valley of Mexico, and in particular to two lakes, one of which no longer exists, so hopefully their appearance in Minecraft will aid conservation efforts for the axolotl. As in real life, the axolotl comes in many colour variations - pink, green, and brown - and is ludicrously adorable. Eventually they'll be found in the new Lush Caves biome in the Minecraft 1.18 update, but also have heaps of new mechanics not shared by other Minecraft mobs. What's brilliant about the axolotl is that you can capture them very easily by scooping them up in a bucket and bringing them along with you. They may look adorable, but these are assault amphibians that you can deploy against ocean-based mobs by emptying the bucket mid-battle. They're much easier to find in the Minecraft 1.17 update as you just need to look in watery areas in caves. Join us as we go through everything we know about the axolotl in Minecraft, including where to find and tame them, and how they fight during combat. PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 11:35 AM It's official - the gaming PC has a Golden Joystick on its shelf for 'best gaming hardware of all time', a title that exists to celebrate the gaming industry's 50 years of existence. Better still, Valve's CEO, Gabe Newall, stepped up to accept the award on behalf of PCs everywhere, which potentially means he's now officially the platform's parent/guardian? During his acceptance speech at the Golden Joystick Awards 2021, Newall says that "gamers and developers have benefited enormously from the relentless innovation in PC gaming hardware." While this statement feels a little tongue in cheek, it's backed up by the fact that modern consoles like the Xbox Series X are becoming more like gaming PCs. It's strange to see the PC platform classed as a singular hardware type, as today's monstrous RTX 3080 armed machines are worlds from their 1980s IBM ancestors - especially when we kit them out in a suit of armour. In fact, you could argue that the Amiga 500 and Commodore 64 are also technically personal computers, but they're actually listed as separate award nominees. Nevertheless, the award more or less celebrates the importance of the platform and the contribution it has made to the video game industry throughout the years. PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 11:30 AM The prices of the best graphics cards from both Nvidia and AMD only seem to increase, largely due to the ongoing chip shortage and unprecedented demand from those looking to upgrade their ageing gaming PCs. However, it appears that AMD may increase the price of its RX 6000 GPUs by 10% due to an increase in manufacturing costs. According to a thread on the Board Channels forums (via Videocardz), the company has informed board partners that it will increase the price of its RX 6000 products by "20-40 US dollars." This is because the rates at which TSMC charges AMD to manufacture chip wafers for its products, including its best gaming CPUs and graphics cards, have risen "too much." AMD's price hike will undoubtedly affect consumers, but it won't take effect until the next shipment of cards reaches board partners. So, if you're thinking about picking up a brand new RX 6000 GPU you'd better act quick. RELATED LINKS: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X review, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT review, Best CPU for gaming |
PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 11:16 AM It looks like two Genshin Impact characters are getting skins in the next update. While update 2.3 - Shadows Amidst Snowstorms, if you know your stuff - has just been released, it's typically around this time that dataminers dig in to see what's coming to Genshin Impact in the future. Genshin Intel shares on Twitter that Ningguang and Keqing are getting skins in update 2.4. Details past that are thin on the ground, though it's not the first time we've seen a Genshin Impact character get some new duds. Jean and Barbara got summer-themed skins when update 1.6 launched earlier this year. If things remain unchanged, getting the new Ningguang and Keqing skins should be a breeze. You'll either be able to buy them from an outfit store for a flat fee or earn them through event rewards. Genshin Intel also shares that update 2.4 may include hangout quests for Ningguang and Yunjin, reruns of the Lantern Rite and Windtrace festivals, and an alchemy event with Timaeus. None of these have been revealed by Mihoyo, though. So keep that in mind, as updates can change before they're officially revealed. PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 11:03 AM Want to know how to complete the Halo Infinite Fracture Tenrai event challenges? By playing Halo Infinite Fiesta matches against other players, you can earn unique rewards by finishing the challenges with orange tabs next to them in the challenges list. These rewards include the Halo Infinite Yoroi samurai armour, along with a whole bunch of other samurai-themed goodies. You only need to finish one of these weekly Fiesta challenges to increase your rank in the Fracture Tenrai event track. However, while completing the Fracture Tenrai challenges are relatively simple, as challenges are randomised, there's no guarantee of getting Fiesta challenges. There's no shortcut, either, you need to either finish your active challenges or attempt to swap the challenge using one of the Challenge Swap consumable items. Since the challenges are only available for a limited time, here's how to get the Halo Infinite Fracture Tenrai challenges and rewards. You may also be interested in learning more about the Halo Infinite battle pass rewards since completing Fiesta challenges gives you experience towards unlocking the items there. PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 11:03 AM Want to know how to play Fiesta matches in Halo Infinite? Some of the more bizarre game modes from previous Halo games are coming as part of limited-time events. The first of these events, named Fracture: Tenrai, is now live; by completing Halo Infinite Fracture Tenrai event challenges, players are rewarded with the Halo Infinite Yoroi Samurai armour. Fiesta matches are similar to regular deathmatches but players respawn with a randomised loadout, instead of the standard assault rifle and pistol combo. Of course, it's the luck of the draw what you respawn with, so you could have an overpowered loadout packed with the very best Halo Infinite guns, or you might have to survive with low-tier weapons. It's a fun, chaotic game type that may seem luck-based at first, but with the right tools and a bit of skill, you can potentially decimate the enemy team with some well-placed rockets. Here is when the Halo Infinite Fiesta matches are available. RELATED LINKS: Halo Infinite release date, Halo Infinite system requirements, Halo Infinite ranks |
PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 11:07 AM Want to know how to get the Yoroi samurai armour in Halo Infinite? Following the surprise launch of the much-anticipated FPS game, Halo Infinite's first season, Heroes of Reach, lasts until May 2, 2022. So there's plenty of time for you to get all of the Halo Infinite season one battle pass unlockable skins based on characters from Halo: Reach. However, 343 Industries has also tweeted about the first mini-season. It's called 'Fracture: Tenrai' and features the Yoroi armour as the event's main unlockable skin. Previous Halo games had character customisation to make your Spartan warrior look unique, so it's no surprise to see that Halo Infinite's battle pass has a plethora of helmets, weapon skins, and pauldrons to make your Spartan stand out. Despite not being the first Japanese-themed armour set in Halo (the Hayabusa powered assault armour has been around since Halo 3), the Yoroi samurai armour is one of the more elaborate looking designs in the game so far. So, if you ever wanted your Spartan warrior to have that samurai look, complete with a snazzy Kabuto helmet, then you should follow these steps to unlock it. PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 11:01 AM Update - November 24, 2021: The giveaway ends November 25, so now's your last chance! Original story follows. Ubisoft has finally announced Splinter Cell ...Chaos Theory, the series' most beloved classic entry, is free for a limited time. The offer is exclusively on PC and comes in promotion of Ubisoft's Black Friday sale, which is now underway. The promotion only lasts until Black Friday, so if you've been missing Sam Fisher, you might want to get on that. You can head to the giveaway site to grab Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory from now until November 25 at 6am PST / 9am EST / 2pm GMT. The game redeems on Ubisoft Connect - which, if you've been out of the loop for the past year, is the rebranded Uplay launcher. Once you've redeemed it, it'll remain in your library forever, just as with any game you'd actually purchased. Chaos Theory originally launched in 2005 across PC, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox. It's largely regarded as the peak of the series, as the games that followed simply emulated its successes (as in Double Agent) or went in new and divisive directions (as in Conviction and Blacklist). |
PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 11:05 AM The pieces are all in place, and it's time to finally take on the Cube Queen. Fortnite Chapter 2 is about to draw to a close, but before the curtain falls on the battle royale game's second big 'chapter' arc, there's going to be another massive spectacle event, and here's when you can join in the fight. 'The End' event is what Epic is calling a "climactic event" in which you'll take on the Cube Queen herself in "one last stand for the fate of the island." It's scheduled to take place December 4 at 1pm PT / 4pm ET / 9pm GMT. Given how these things have gone in the past, you'll probably want to show up a little early, and 'The End' playlist will be available 30 minutes prior to the start of the event. You'll also be able to squad up with more players if you want to participate with a group of friends. The playlist supports parties of up to 16 players this time around, so everyone can come along. Make sure someone's set up to record, however - replays won't be available for this one-time event, and you won't be able to adjust any graphics settings once the event has begun, so get that all squared away ahead of time, too. PCGamesN Wednesday, November 24, 2021 10:20 AM Patron is a medieval city-building game that puts its own distinct spin on social dynamics, by turning citizens' happiness into "a complete gameplay system in its own right", which launched in August this year. Since then, it's received a bunch of patches, hotfixes, and other bits and pieces - such as a Halloween-themed add-on. Now, there's a new update that folds in a bunch of community-requested features. "This update is almost entirely about 'quality-of-life' improvements, and most of its contents is based on your input and suggestions," developer Overseer Games says in a Steam blog post revealing the changes arriving with Update 1.050.0. The biggest addition among the list is the option to manually place your starting town hall - the central hub of power and governance in your settlement - anywhere you like on the map. "This should increase replayability and enable you to achieve more variety when building up your town," the studio explains. Elsewhere, the devs have made some adjustments to house maintenance and resource management. For instance, you'll now find houses deteriorate over time (approximately 40 in-game years) which means you'll need to refurbish them to keep them in ship shape. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, November 24, 2021 3:45 PM Last week, Bandai Namco unveiled the latest entry in its licensed Dragon Ball video game catalog, dubbed Dragon Ball: The Breakers. This new game surprised quite a few fans of the Dragon Ball titles, as rather than functioning as another fighting game or RPG, it features asymmetrical online gameplay in which seven survivors have to flee from a rampaging supervillain. As fun as this idea seemed, many still had questions over the specifics of the gameplay, as well as whether or not it would turn out any good. Thankfully, Bandai Namco just offered to provide answers to both of those questions, as they opened up closed beta testing registration and uploaded an extensive new gameplay trailer for Dragon Ball: The Breakers. According to a press release, the closed beta test will take place throughout December 4 and December 5 across four separate four-hour sessions. To have a chance at entering the beta, players will need to sign up for it before November 30 at 2:59 p.m. UTC, and they can ... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, November 24, 2021 3:00 PM Amazon Prime may be adapting the world of Mass Effect to the small screen. A report from Deadline suggested that Amazon is "nearing a deal" to develop a series based on the franchise. This comes after Amazon revealed that another of its shows, The Wheel of Time, had been very well received and is quickly becoming one of its most successful shows of the year. With the next Mass Effect on the horizon, this may be the perfect time for an adaptation of the original trilogy. Looking back through the last few years of adaptations based on beloved source material, this news isn't necessarily surprising. Not only has Amazon Prime successfully adapted popular graphic novel series like The Boys, and the upcoming Lord of the Rings series, which makes its debut in September 2022. Netflix has also taken a shot at adapting established video game franchises, with both Castlevania and The Witcher performing well enough to score multiple seasons. Is adapting Mass Effect really a g... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, November 24, 2021 2:00 PM It's the third week of November, and you know what that means. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, stuffing are all on the table. Did I mention the stuffing? Of course, for those with heavy wallets, it's also the week of sales and bargains, which happens every year. And this year will prove no different. Among the TVs and blenders, game sales are coming in hot. The Epic Games Store has begun its Black Friday 2021 celebrations, bringing sales on hundred of games and even some that have been recently released, such as Darkest Dungeon II. Well, released might not be the proper term. Darkest Dungeon II launched into early access nearly a month ago, sending players new and old into new waves of stress. The game was set for a $29.99 USD price, but it'll have a discount at during the Epic Games Store Black Friday 2021 sale. It's not much at 10% off, but it should make the decision to delve back into its dreary depths a little bit, well, less stressful. But just a lit... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, November 24, 2021 1:15 PM Like the rest of us, you're likely in the shopping mood this week and looking to score the best deals on hot PC gaming hardware. However, it's not much of news to say that shortages will be an issue this year.
