Suisui Uniform and Headgear in Rainbow Six Siege X as part of the new Twitch Drops campaign

If you were busy trying to play Rainbow Six Siege X and saw a blank Marketplace, then you don't have any reason to be worried.

The Marketplace, as of writing, will be reopened, and it was not a bug or network issue. Instead, it was part of a deliberate action on the part of Ubisoft. The decision was made following a massive server breach that has led to unintended consequences.

Rainbow Six Siege X servers breach explained

The story begins earlier, on Dec. 27, when many players observed messages that resembled banwaves. However, the messages were slightly different from their usual appearance, and players soon found out what had actually happened.

https://twitter.com/Rainbow6Game/status/2004917731829948808

Upon returning to the main menu, many players reported having two billion credits in their accounts. While many players felt that the quantity must be a glitch, two billion credits were actually available in their accounts. They also reportedly gained access to the ultra-exclusive DEV skin and other high-value commodities like Glaciers.

The credits players obtained through illegal methods are premium currency. You can use it at the Marketplace to buy different cosmetics. Some players have also reportedly done so to purchase as many cosmetics as possible.

https://twitter.com/Rainbow6Game/status/2004943312390926740

Hence, the Marketplace was completely shut down to prevent players from crashing the prices. An abundance of the premium currency would have altered the prices in an unfair fashion. As of writing, the servers for the game are also down for the same reason.

While Ubisoft hasn't officially acknowledged the breach, the server maintenance page still lists unplanned outages for the game across all platforms. Since then, Ubisoft has added the course of action.

  • There won't be any bans.
  • A rollback of all transactions that were done with the fraudulent currency.
  • Players will retain all the unlocks that were done legitimately.

Power Bank in ARC Raiders

The Power Bank used to be one of the best credit earners in ARC Raiders, and the second season has more uses for this specific item.

The Power Bank didn't have any direct use in the first season, but it always brought a steady amount of credits. Hence, finding one was incredibly lucrative if you wanted to get quick credits. Let's look at where you can possibly find a Power Bank, and what's the best way to use it.

Best locations for Power Bank in ARC Raiders

Power Banks are relatively easy to obtain since they can be found in different areas. You can find them in zones tagged as Electrical, Commercial, and Residential. These zones are spread all over the different maps (apart from Stella Montis).

My favorite maps for finding the Power Bank are Dam Battlegrounds and Buried City. That said, you can also find them from Spaceport and Blue Gate. However, my highest success at finding the Power Bank has been Buried City and Dam Battlegrounds.

Power Bank locations on Dam Battlegrounds
Screenshot and remix by Destructoid

On Dam Battlegrounds, you can try your luck at the Power Generation Complex in the northern part of the map. You can also check out the western parts, namely Ruby Residence and Pale Apartments. The southern section features locations like the Electrical Substation, where you can also find a Power Bank.

Power Bank locations on Buried City

There are plenty of spots to search on Buried City. The Library, Space Travel, and Town Hall are all possible spawn locations for the Power Bank. You can also try your luck at the Piazza Arbusto and Plaza Rosa. Ultimately, you'll want to look into every corner as Power Banks don't have any specific locations.

The new Expedition project requires you to find Batteries, and the Power Bank is a great source of them. You can recycle a Power Bank to get two Wires and two Batteries. You can also salvage them. So far, there are no other uses for this item, but that could change with a future trial task or new quest.

A list of the sexiest video game voices

After 17 long years, I have finally gotten around to trying Mass Effect. For the entirety of my childhood and well into my teenage and later years, I had heard about this supposedly great game made by a once-amazing studio, but never ventured to play it for literally no reason.

But now, having played the first game for a few hours, I've come to realize my mistake and how much of a fool I was for sleeping on what could very well be my favorite RPG yet.

Those of you who have visited the site before and read up on my ramblings should know by now how much I love RPGs. I constantly highlight all the good and bad things about each individual RPG I come across, analyzing them from head to toe and theorizing about what could've been done better. This genre is thus a special one to me, one that I continue to scrutinize even outside of work, searching for that one game to rule them all.

A turian in Mass Effect.
I don't usually like xenos in games like this, but Mass Effect's ones are so good I changed my mind. Image via BioWare

I cannot fathom how many times I had googled "good RPG like game X or Y," always failing to take into account the amazing games that were made by the pioneers of the industry. Sure, I had played a lot of BioWare games, including those it had made over 20 years ago, like the Baldur's Gate titles, but I never, for no particular reason, tried out Mass Effect.

When I was in elementary school, I'd come home, get online by whatever means I had at that time, and read up about all the great games I could not play (on account of my crappy PC with a Rage 128 GPU and less than a gig of RAM). Mass Effect came up time and again, alongside the likes of The Witcher 2, Skyrim, and so on.

Everyone who was anyone in the RPG sphere played this series, praising its story, romance options, and choice-and-consequence systems, which I was intrigued by but never really captivated. In time, I would get a better PC, start playing games religiously from around 2013 onward, beating The Witcher 2 and 3 a dozen times, playing even Skyrim, Oblivion, and everything in between. Not a single Western RPG had been left unexperienced, that is, except Mass Effect.

And it wouldn't be until these past couple of days, in the big 2025 (right at its very end) that I'd finally pick the game up.

Man, have I been missing out.

I initially expected this to be a game with a pre-set, silent protagonist in a run-of-the-mill sci-fi setting not far removed from anything I'd read, seen, or played before. It would turn out that no, Emilia Shepard isn't silent, and while she's half-pre-written (much like V in Cyberpunk 2077), the roleplay options remain nonetheless endless.

The graphics in the Legendary Edition are nothing short of breathtaking, whereas the art direction and style are a whole other story in and of themselves. From the cutscenes to the traversable areas to the nature of this amazing world itself, I keep finding myself just staring at things, which are no doubt even more beautiful when displayed in HDR on an OLED screen.

Mass Effect N7
Science fiction universes are many, but boy, does Mass Effect's one stand out. Image via BioWare/EA

Everything in this game seems to have been meticulously crafted with the utmost care, while even the most rudimentary prop in the environment carries artistic merit. The voice acting, writing, story—everything is beyond fantastic. It has gripped me with a force greater than I had thought possible, finally scratching that RPG itch I have long carried with me (i.e., ever since Baldur's Gate 3 came out).

And it's only the first game. There are three of these things, coupled with dozens of DLC that come pre-installed with the Legendary Edition, and I've only begun to scratch the surface of this stellar (pun intended) experience that stretches out across the cosmos, or at least our rather big milky chunk of it.

It's a refreshing moment in my gaming career, so refreshing that I had to tell you all about it. So far, I've yet to find a single flaw in the game's design, which was likely refined a bit over the original 2008 release. In particular, I am quite taken aback by the fluidity of the combat, the smooth movement, and how satisfying fights actually are.

RPGs are keen on telling you a story, but often sacrifice mechanical depth for the sake of a good narrative.

Mass Effect delivers on both and does it more than well, and is sure to keep me up for countless nights until I, too, can join the conversation about how great BioWare used to be.

Preview: Scrabdackle Act 1 Feels Promising

Scrabdackle is one of those games where we get a front row seat to its development. Jakefriend started things with a (successful) Kickstarter that ran between March-April 2021. There were pretty regular updates on its progress since. Now the game is in early access, with basically an act released every year. Though only the first of three parts is live now, it already seems promising.

The concept behind Scrabdackle is short and sweet. Blue is a student at Wizard Academy. One day, a red mage attacks, petrifying people there like Blue's roommate Viridian. Blue gets ejected. After a brief lucid dream called a waydream, in which Headmaster White explains basic gameplay concepts in a tutorial, our hero wakes up in the Junk Heap. It's up to you to get your wand back, explore Scrabdackle as you attempt to get home, and find a way to defeat the academy's enemy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV3NmLOgTyQ

Scrabdackle can feel a bit like going through a The Legend of Zelda game, though Blue's wand attacks can make it feel more like going through a twin-stick shooter like The Binding of Isaac. While you start with Strata Blast, which lets you survive encounters and blast through things like junk, you'll need to get additional abilities to reach new locations. However, it's very open-ended and you can take whatever path you'd like once you're in the world to explore. So while some spells are necessary to make progress through certain parts, how you approach things is up to you.

That freedom is handled really well in the first act of Scrabdackle. The backtracking doesn't feel too overwhelming, at least in these early hours. Reaching save spots does mean you'll be able to heal, refill your vials, and have enemies respawn so you can earn more currency. It does feel like certain spots will be naturally visited first, like Peanut Village since it is early on the taskroll (mission list). So while it is freeform, there's enough structure to ensure someone doesn't feel lost. I will note some of the enemies and bosses could use a bit of rebalancing, but that's something I'm sure will come following feedback and patches.

But what struck me most as I went through some of the early hours of Scrabdackle is the personality. It's a really charming and funny game! There's fourth-wall breaking that doesn't feel egregious. It's both subtly and overtly hilarious. Even explanatory segments and descriptions are silly in a fun way. It matches the sketchy and doodle-y appearance of the world, so both the artistic direction and script maintain the same sorts of sentiments.

I appreciate how open Jakefriend has been with Scrabdackle development on Kickstarter, and I'm hoping we'll see the same sense of positive progression now that it's in early access. It's really a pleasant game with a fantastic atmosphere to it. I think as long as it keeps this level of charm, it could turn out quite well even if the rest of the adventure doesn't get any deeper.

Act 1 of Scrabdackle is in early access on PCs via Steam, with two more acts in development.

solis in rainbow six siege

Rainbow Six Siege has been hit by a massive server breach, which hackers exploited to grant players billions in premium currency, alongside other exclusive items, skins, and a whole lot more. Ubisoft promptly shut the servers down, but the damage caused could be quite severe.

As per Pirat Nation on X, Rainbow Six Siege players were suddenly granted "massive amounts of R6 Credits, Renown, Alpha Packs, and exclusive items," while a ton of accounts were either banned or unbanned. Streamer King George reported "thousands of people" were banned and unbanned, that over two billion of premium currency was given out, and that every player had received every single skin in the game, including those skins only available to the developers themselves.

Ubisoft is allegedly keeping an eye on player behavior, as those who had spent the fraudulent funds could be liable for a ban, so I'd advise you to steer clear of the premium currency.

https://twitter.com/Pirat_Nation/status/2004901721336590703

This is a massive security breach, one which Ubisoft itself initially confirmed. It took hours to kill the marketplace and take the servers down, however, which could leave a lasting impact on the game and especially its economy. If Ubisoft can reverse and undo these holiday freebies, then perhaps nothing will come of it, but it still stands as one of the biggest hacks of a live-service game ever.

Rainbow Six Sige X's servers are currently offline pending investigation and the resolution of this breach, and we'll update this piece with extra information as it becomes available.

It is currently unknown when the servers are expected to be back online, but given the severity of the situation, I'd wager that's at least hours off, if not more.

Players moving through a room in Escape from Tarkov

The Missing in Action quest is the first of several missions added to Escape from Tarkov as part of the Christmas-themed Kolotun event, and completing it can be a true challenge.

The quest requires you first to find specific items and then place them across different maps—here's what you need to do.

Escape from Tarkov Missing in Action quest walkthrough

The Missing in Action quest begins after speaking with Prapor, who will provide you with three different pieces of equipment.

  • Three Iskra ration packs
  • Three bottles of Tarkovskaya Vodka
  • Three Pack of Arseny Buckwheat

Move all three items to your backpack. You'll have to place one of each of these three items in specific areas on the following maps:

  • Woods
  • Reserve
  • Interchange

For your benefit, I have marked the location of all three spots in screenshots.

Woods

Stash location in Woods
Image via Escape from Tarkov Wiki. Remix by Destructoid

The location you need to reach is near the Outskirts extraction point, at the Scav House. Go inside the shack from the side door, and turn left. You'll reach the main room, and one of the corners will have a couple of boxes. Interact with the location to deposit all the items. You don't have to survive or extract successfully.

The quest will consider your progression once you have planted all three items.

Reserve

Stash location in Reserve

The location on Reserve is near the Armored Train extraction point. Go to the marked location, and you'll find a small one-storeyed house. Go inside, and turn right, and the next room will have a table by its door. Place the items at this point to complete the second set of tasks.

Interchange

Stash location in Interchange
Image via Escape from Tarkov wiki. Remix by Destructoid

The final spot will require you to visit the Expansion area in Interchange. This is a fresh area near the mall, which was added during the 1.0 update. Reach the area where the large Neon light sign of the IDEA mall is. From there, go past the wagons to find an entrance through the hills. This is the same path that you have to follow to reach the Smuggler's Tunnel extraction.

Go past the fuel tanker, and you'll find a shack to your right (in front of a yellow-colored van). Head inside, and you'll be able to plant the items. The extraction point is pretty close, so you can safely escape the map with everything that's in your inventory.

A matriarch in ARC Raiders.

As an online-only game, ARC Raiders sometimes runs into network issues, causing players to lag, fail to connect, or enter long queues that can last for an hour or more.

One error that crops up every now and again is the ARAU0297 error, which indicates severe connection issues that are preventing your internet from establishing a connection with the game's servers.

So, here's how you can try to fix it.

ARAU0297 error in ARC Raiders, explained

ARC Raiders rubber ducks
As an online game, ARC Raiders tends to suffer network issues from time to time. Image via Embark Studios

The ARAU0297 error seems to appear every time something is happening to ARC Raiders' servers on the back-end. This indicates that it isn't you who should be fixing the problem but rather the developers, who maintain a healthy communication with players on the official ARC Raiders Discord, alongside other platforms.

If developers have indicated that there is indeed an active server disruption, which we follow in our dedicated server status article, then you don't need to be fixing anything, as the devs will be doing it for you in due time. Simply close the game and wait it out.

If there is indeed no active server disruption, and it's just you having trouble, then this one fix could do it for you on PC and some other platforms. Users report that ARC Raiders can get confused if your time zone settings are incorrect, which isn't unique only to this game, as other services tend to bug out for the same reason.

To apply this solution, do the following (for Windows users):

  • Close ARC Raiders.
  • Close Steam fully.
  • Go to the bottom-right corner of your screen and right-click your time and date.
  • Select Adjust date and time.
  • If it's checked, uncheck Set time zone automatically, or check it if it's off.
  • If it's greyed out, go to Location settings above it and enable them, which'll allow you to check the setting.
  • Re-enable it if you'd checked it off.
  • Do the same for Set time automatically.
  • Run Steam with administrator privileges.
  • Try playing ARC Raiders again.

Some users reported that setting the correct time zone fixed the error code above, as inaccurate time and date settings can and will cause problems with various online services, apparently including ARC Raiders. Restarting your device, contacting your ISP, or speaking with Embark's support are further steps if nothing else helps.

An image of a Light Bulb in ARC Raiders overlaid over a map of the Dam Battlegrounds level.

ARC Raiders' progression system is tightly tied to loot, i.e., items you find around each of its respective maps.

The Flickering Flames event has exacerbated that, requiring players to collect and submit all sorts of different items and loot, including Light Bulbs. Thankfully, this item seems rather easy to farm, given that there appear to be locations that almost certainly spawn them every single time.

So, here's where you should look.

Light Bulb locations in ARC Raiders

Partial 3D render of the Dam Battlegrounds map in ARC Raiders with several locations marked with pins bearing Destructoid's image.
These are the locations we've had the most luck with. Screenshot and remix by Destructoid

Light Bulbs in ARC Raiders are most commonly and easily found on the Dam Battlegrounds map. Specifically, they seem to spawn the most within car hoods, which are scattered throughout the entire level, but most densely concentrated on the northern highway portion, as well as near the extract in the Power Generation Complex.

Opening the hoods of these cars almost certainly guarantees you a Light Bulb drop, with significant spawn rates.

Another high-probability spawn point is the car located within the Electrical Substation south of the Water Treatment Control loot zone. The car seemingly gives Light Bulbs every single time it's looted, and we've had tremendous luck with it.

Either way, one of these mentioned cars will almost always spawn at least a couple Light Bulbs, so you'd better check them if you want to maximize your odds of finding this item.

Light Bulbs can then be sold for 2,000 a piece or submitted for progression, most notably the Flickering Flames event, where they're one of the necessary prerequisites.
