Get a maiden to the shrine. Strike down all of the demons standing in her way. Purge defilement from a mountain and restore the land to its natural harmony and splendor.      After three years, obscure strategy game Realpolitiks suddenly returns

The first entry to the Realpolitiks series of strategy games came out back in 2017, with its sequel following in 2021. Though it never reached the heights of the most popular examples of the genre, like Civilization 6, Age of Empires 4, or Command and Conquer, the Realpolitiks series is notable for its attempt to boil down the complexity of grand strategy heavyweights like Crusader Kings 3 or Europa Universalis 4 without losing what makes those games so compelling in the process. Now, after three years, creator Jujubee is back with another iteration of its design ethos, Realpolitiks 3 Earth and Beyond having just been announced as part of TactiCon 2024.

hatsune miku little missing stars figure

The Good Smile Company X (Twitter) account has released an update on the Pop Up Parade Hatsune Miku: Little Missing Stars Version figure. As well, it shared that you'll be able to check out the prototype at the illustrator's exhibition.

"Little Missing Stars" is a song that came out in 2023, featuring Miku as the Vocaloid in use. Nekobolo composed and wrote the song. Illustrator Rella had a variety of hats, including animation director, key animator, storyboard artist, and art director. As of the time of writing, the music video has garnered over 213,000 views over the course of six months.

The Pop Up Parade Hatsune Miku: Little Missing Stars Version figure from Good Smile Company has her wearing an outfit similar to her default. However, her skirt has more frills and she's wearing a white top. There is a white ribbon behind her and her signature teal pigtails now look like music scores with stars in them. Rella, the illustrator, will hold an exhibition in Japan from July 25 to August 4, 2024. The prototype for the figure will be on display there.

More information on the release date for the Pop Up Parade will come out later. However, the prototype looks pretty complete, so it should be some time soon. In other Miku news today, the last Project Voltage song came out.

girls' frontline 2

A website for the English version of Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium is live, complete with a new key visual of the upcoming game. The website is pretty empty at the moment though, with only a "Coming Soon" sign and then a short animation featuring the girls.

There's not a lot of information right now about Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium. The game came out in China in December 2023. However, Mica Team announced that it would release the game to other territories and regions as well. We know that it's a 3D strategy RPG (whereas the original was 2D) in the veins of XCOM. This will be a sequel to the original game, as the story will take place after the first one. And yes, it will still be a gacha.

Girls' Frontline came out in 2016 for mobile devices. In the game, you take control of T-Dolls, who all use a real-world firearm as their main weapon of choice. It's a strategy RPG that has you moving the dolls around the map to fulfill certain mission battles. There have been multiple collaboration events in the past between Girls' Frontline and other series. For example, earlier in 2024, Mica Team and Sunborn announced a Ghost in the Shell event.

More information on the English release of Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium will come out in the future. It'll be available for the Windows PC and mobile devices.

doctor kureha netflix live-action jamie lee curtis

In an interview with Deadline, live-action One Piece showrunners Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements revealed that Jamie Lee Curtis will not be playing the role of Doctor Kureha. Someone else will, though they have not revealed who yet. [Thanks, Deadline!]

Confirmation appeared near the start of the interview when Deadline writer Nellie Andreeva provided a summary on the contents of the article. The topic appeared a little later on when discussing filming for the live-action adaptation for One Piece. Clements stated that Jamie Lee Curtis was excited to appear as Doctor Kureha. However, she was unable to fit the role into her schedule. She was reportedly disappointed that she couldn't appear on the show. To conclude the topic, Clements stated that they've found "an amazing person" to appear as Doctor Kureha.

In One Piece, Doctor Kureha was a doctor on Drum Island, though people feared her as a witch. She was the one who mentored Chopper, as well as the one who took him in and served as his adoptive mother. Doctor Kureha is an eccentric woman who tends to threaten her patients and forcefully examine them. Despite her advanced age, she is still very healthy and strong.

The Netflix adaptation of One Piece is readily available on the streaming service. The second season should come out some time in late 2025.

genshin impact ganyu exhibition

HoYoVerse has released a new animated trailer for the Genshin Impact exhibition at Animate, with Ganyu as the star of the show. The trailer is just under forty seconds long.

This is the same design that Ganyu was sporting when Animate first revealed the collaboration event in May 2024. As a reminder, the collaboration event's name can loosely translate to "Travels Where My Heart Takes Me," and features Ganyu looking like she's on a summer vacation. She's dressed in all white, with a parasol and a little carry-on suitcase. The side bag she has around her also features the red Chinese knot in her normal in-game design.

You can watch the Genshin Impact Animate trailer with Ganyu here:

https://twitter.com/genshinex_info/status/1814102858780033051?s=61

The Animate site for the Genshin Impact exhibition also details the AR stamp rally that you'll be able to participate in until August 19, 2024. There are five points around the Ikebukuro station area that you have to go to for a QR code. Once you get all of the stamps, you can unlock a special wallpaper. You can also get merchandise for a limited time of Ganyu in her special outfit.

Genshin Impact is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. The exhibition will likely end on August 19, 2024.

shot from Bayle's Arena in Shadow of the Erdtree. Missing translators will be added to the credits for the game and its expansion.

On July 19, 2024, FromSoftware announced that an update would be implemented to the Elden Ring end credits to add the names of missing translators that had been left out of the list.

The Tweet announcing this, posted by the official Elden Ring Twitter account, stated that the fix would arrive in an upcoming patch. They do not state exactly who was left out, but the statement says that the exclusion was unintentional.

https://twitter.com/ELDENRING/status/1814224284207755591

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco, earlier this year, announced that Elden Ring had sold over 25 million copies. With the addition of these names to the registry, more individuals who worked on Elden Ring will be able to prove their contributions.

Recently, the DLC expansion: Shadow of the Erdtree released on June 21, 2024. This is the only major content update planned for Elden Ring and it, along with the main game, has received a series of patches and fixes to address bugs and issues, including one doing a large rebalancing of the DLC's core mechanic. This update to the credits will arrive alongside a later content patch, but the exact timing is currently unknown.

Elden Ring and the DLC Expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, are available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.

Last Hatsune Miku Project Voltage Pokemon Song Appears

The final Project Voltage song for the collaboration crossover campaign between Pokemon and Hatsune Miku launched. The song is called "Champion." Its lyrics were written by Japanese music artist Kanaria, with illustrations created by artist LAM.

The music video starts with a static artwork of popular character Cynthia talking through a text box akin to that of the Pokemon series, and continues with a similar artwork of Miku being overlayed in the same pose as Cynthia. The fan favorite character and Elite Four Champion made her debut in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The video then continues by having Cynthia's Pokemon team joining Miku as she sings, with Spiritomb, Roserade, Lucario, Milotic, Togekiss, and her iconic Garchomp appearing in that order. This is the same team Cynthia used in Pokemon Platinum.

You can check out the final Project Voltage Hatsune Miku Pokemon song here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxjledMkwyk

The Pokemon Company International originally announced Project Voltage in September 1, 2023 as a collaboration between the Pokemon video game series with popular Vocaloid character Hatsune Miku. "Volt Tackle," the first of the 18 Pokemon type songs released in September 29, 2023.

While this is the last original song from the project produced, it was also announced through the official website that remixes of existing songs will appear. The first two will be "Electrical Forecast" and "Journey's Prequels, Journey's Traces," by the artist Iyowa.

Latest Hololive Termination Is Holostars Vtuber Hizaki Gamma

Cover announced the termination of their Virtual YouTuber Master Agreement with Hololive Vtuber Hizaki Gamma of Holostars. The termination of contract was mutually decided between the company and the Vtuber and went in effect on July 17, 2024.

The decision behind the termination of contract for Hizaki Gamma comes because of an increase in difficulty for Cover and Hololive Production to continue managing and supporting the Vtuber. The company apologized to fans and partners for the news and thanked them for their support. Cover also confirmed that Hizaki Gamma's YouTube channel and membership will close by the end of August 2024.

In response to the announcement, Gamma himself made a post in Japanese through his X (formerly Twitter) account. In it, the Vtuber apologized for the inconveniences caused to the members of Holostars, fans, and management of Hololive, caused by his "lack of self-management." Gamma also thanked his "assistants" (the name of his fanbase) for the last 2 and a half years. He also thanked the people he has worked with and apologized for the sudden announcement.

Cover CEO Motoaki Tanigo chimed in with his own post thanking Gamma for his constant hard work, thanking fans for their continued support of Gamma's former unit "Uproar!!", and affirming that the company will continue to celebrate the Vtuber's past successes.

princess maker 2 regeneration switch 1

By the time my first daughter was 14 years old, she was 600 points strong, could defeat an undead knight that challenged her in a graveyard, and was well on her way to marrying a dragon, but she still couldn't beat a 60-something year old pirate named Muscle Halvar in the Harvest Festival Combat Tournament. Those sure were some words, right? But if you play Princess Maker 2 Regeneration on the Switch or PC they not only make sense, but give you concise insight into the exact sort of adopted daughter and prospective princess' path in life. It's a wild game of stat management and child-rearing that blends hilarious absurdity with critical number crunching for optimal results.

Princess Maker 2 Regeneration begins with a war hero being invited to live in a kingdom with a pension and being tasked by the gods with adopting a young daughter. Your goal over the next eight years is to turn that 10 year old into a princess. However, that yearly 500 gold stipend isn't nearly enough! Also, it sort of feels like your avatar decided that after all that hero-ing, you're done. So you sit at home and decide what your daughter does every week for each month, scheduling out the three periods, and basically rely upon her to bring in cash from odd jobs and errantry. Oh, and maybe if she's doing well, you'll let her use some of that money she brings in on clothing, weapons, and classes to improve her stats.

It is so much fun

Well, to me it's so much fun. I've been having a ball playing Princess Maker 2 Regeneration on the Switch. For you, your levels of enjoyment may vary. This simulation is very much a numbers and management game. Classes tend to always be beneficial and only boost stats. Jobs will boost some stats and eat away at others, but provide you cash. All jobs raise her stress levels. Some jobs increase her sin levels too. Not to mention killing enemies while exploring the world make her more sinful. Certain endings are locked away by specific stat requirements. Others you'll happen into if she works at specific jobs for too long. Marriage candidates look for specific stats too. You aren't going to marry one of the princes, in most cases, unless you have certain levels of charisma, refinement, sin, and morality.

Your first few runs in Princess Maker 2 Regeneration will basically involve you learning how to play the game and determining what you like about it. There are no tutorials here. Everything counts. You'll learn how to manage what little money you get and focus on building up funds from your daughter's jobs. You'll learn how to manage stress so she isn't so upset that she's running away every other month, wasting possible time. You'll understand that the best early investments are the sun dress and winter dress, in case of heatwaves or storms, but that you can avoid investing in weaponry if you'll skip combat. After you've raised a few kids, you'll start approaching each game with a particular destination in mind. Maybe this time, your princess will be evil! Next time, you'll try and trigger as many events while exploring as a warrior! Perhaps she'll try and become royalty on her own merits, without actually marrying into it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6eO5ONbqwk&ab_channel=BlissBrain

With the Switch version of Princess Maker 2 Regeneration, Bliss Brain takes advantage of the new platform for some positive adjustments. For example, since this is a 4:3 resolution game, you constantly see all of your daughter's stats on the right side of the screen. I didn't realize how helpful this would be until I started playing! The voice acting is also fantastic and very much appreciated. I also liked how some of the updated art and CG looked.

That said, there are also issues with this latest incarnation of Princess Maker 2 on the Switch. Some of the font and formatting choices for text could have been better or have issues with size and spacing. The localization also isn't great, with awkward wording present throughout, though I do think it was better than in Princess Maker 2 Refine at times. For example, it bugs me every year when the princess goes to the Combat Tournament and refers the person she'll face in the match as "her" opponent instead of "my." Also, saying you're "recording the time" when saving is really weird. I think that the Hunting job might bugged as well. When my daughter's Stamina was past 300 and her Combat Skill was past 50, she'd still be failing every day and earning no money from it. There are these little things that add up and make me wonder if it is intentional, an oversight, or a bug.

There are ways in which Princess Maker 2 Regeneration does feel like a valued, fresh start and approach to the game, partially because of it also being on systems like the Switch. However, there are also times when it feels like it also isn't quite there yet and Princess Maker 2 Refinemay be a better bet. There are some definite bugs present and in need of squashing. I also wish the localization was stronger. However, the core game is a lot of fun, especially if you appreciate stat management simulations such as this. I think it is worth the time even if it isn't the best version of the game available, and I hope Bliss Brain fixes some of the more glaring problems after launch.

Princess Maker 2 Regeneration is available on the Nintendo Switch and PC, and the PS4 and PS5 versions launch on August 8, 2024.

New Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising DLC Character Is Versusia

Cygames took to social media to reveal Versusia is the next Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising DLC character, and she is playable at Evo 2024. Those who visit the company's booth between July 19-21, 2024 can test her out for the first time.

Versusia may look familiar, if people completed the Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising campaign, as she is a major character in it. Leaks for the game also already suggested she would eventually become playable, even ahead of Cygames' announcement. The teaser image that appeared online ahead of her reveal also featured her distinctive silhouette.

Here's the full reveal. It also teases further announcements, so it is possible that there could be an Evo 2024 trailer for her or a release date reveal.

https://twitter.com/gbvs_official/status/1814359550042194202

We've seen a number of DLC characters join the game ahead of Versusia. Beatrix, Lucilius, and Vane already appeared. There was also the first crossover character, 2B from NieR: Automata. All of them are a part of the first season pass for the game. There are expected to be six total, and it is currently unknown if a second season with additional fighters could eventually show up.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is available on the PS4, PS5, and PC, and Versusia will become a playable character via its upcoming DLC.

New Kingdom Hearts Glasses Have Sora and Organization XIII Art on Them

Square Enix announced it is taking orders for new Kingdom Hearts can-shaped glasses that feature art of characters like Sora or imagery from the game on them. They are only in the Japanese eStore at the moment, and they are expected to launch in Japan on September 28, 2024.

There are three different types of Kingdom Hearts glasses available in this line. Each one is a clear glass with a design either in black or white on it. The shape of each one is similar to a soda can, and they stand at over four and a half inches tall like an actual can would. One features a white emblem that resembles a coat of arms that has Kingdom Hearts written on it in script, the Mickey mouse simple, a pair of crossed Keyblades in front of a heart, and a crown. The can with Sora on it has him in black sitting on a throne with a crown on his head in front of the game's logo. The third one features Organization XIII symbol with the Roman numerals for 1-14 around it. Each glass is priced at 2,200円 (~$14).

Here's how all three of them will look:

While there hasn't been news about Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link lately, following the April 2024 beta test announcement, new merchandise tied to the series has appeared regularly. For example, a new Shadow Heartless plush and mug are on the way.

The Kingdom Hearts games are available on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Epic Games Store and Steam. The three new Kingdom Hearts glasses will launch in Japan on September 28, 2024.

Welcome to the Week in Review
Welcome
Sometimes, Fridays don’t stick to the slow-news-day script. Sometimes, they like to deliver a horse-kick to your IT systems, followed by a global tech meltdown of epic proportions. That’s what most of us woke up to today, thanks to cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike delivering some bad code to countless Microsoft Windows customers – customers who run health, travel, TV networks, and other businesses, enterprises, and infrastructure-level services that impact everyday people. Cases in point: millions stuck at airports, others unable to access healthcare systems. The list goes on.

The good news is that, as you’re reading this, CrowdStrike has resolved the issues and delivered the necessary updates, and most systems are coming back online. Even so, we won’t soon forget The Real Y2K moment of 2024, and questions will persist about what happened, why, and how we prevent such incidents in the future.

It was such a crazy morning that I almost forgot about all the other awesome stuff we did this week. Once again, there’s been a ton of steady, low-grade AI news to consider, from ChatGPT rivals like Claude on Android (finally) to AI that can do research without you.

Apple dropped all its public betas, and we’ve been poring over them – especially iOS 18, which has gotten a lot of new customization capabilities. And I was especially excited by all the hands-on pro-level camera testing our Cameras Editor Timothy Coleman’s been doing – and the best part is that we get to enjoy some of his truly excellent photography.

Okay, I have to get back to tracking the recovery from this CrowdStrike mess. You can read up on that, and all of the week’s other big news, in the articles linked below.
