naruto teenage mutant ninja turtles

IDW Publishing will release a Naruto and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover miniseries some time in October 2024. It will be available in both physical and digital formats. [Thanks, Keifer Martin!]

According to Martin's replies in the thread, the source comes from the Russian TMNT forum "Turtle Power." In the original post, we only know the release window and that Jorge Jimenez did the cover. For reference, Jorge Jimenez is a comic book artist who's well known for his work on multiple Batman and Superman series. There's no information yet as to who the writers are for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto miniseries and, nor do we know what the story will be about.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first came out in 1984, with action figures and an animated series coming out in the 1980s as well. The story follows Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, who are four anthropomorphic turtles who live in the sewers of New York City. Sewer rat sensei Splinter taught them ninjutsu, which they use to fight crime. In their off time, they enjoy stereotypical teenager activities like playing video games and eating pizza. Naruto (of Naruto) is a teenager who likes to eat ramen and can use ninjutsu. He also has a sensei with hair that's similar to the color of a rat's fur. So they have that in common.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto comic miniseries should come out in October 2024. More information will appear closer to the release window.

bombergirl pop-up store

A pop-up store based on Bombergirl will appear in Shibuya, featuring characters dressed up like they're magical girls. The store will run from August 1 to 31, 2024.

You'll be able to find the Bombergirl pop-up store on the sixth floor of the Shibuya Tsutaya. As a note, if you spend over 2200 JPY on Bombergirl goods, you'll be able to get a novelty bromide. There are twelve variations in total and you'll get a random one so if you're aiming for a specific character, you might have to purchase more. It seems that it's for every 2200 JPY rather than per transaction though, so you don't have to make multiple purchases.

Here are the goods that'll be available:

  • Acrylic cards: 550 JPY
  • Acrylic keyholders: 660 JPY
  • B2 tapestry: 3850 JPY
  • Big acrylic stand figure: 4400 JPY
  • Can badges: 330 JPY
  • Clear folder: 660 JPY each
  • Pass case: 1650 JPY
  • Sticker: 550 JPY

Bombergirl is a Konami's spinoff of Bomberman, which it has the rights to as it bought Hudson Soft. Like Bomberman, the goal is to use bombs and such in order to defeat the opposite team's base. Unlike the original Bomberman series, the characters look like stereotypical bishoujo rather than little mascot-looking people.

Bombergirl is available in Japan on the Windows PC and in arcades.

FFXIV Gong Cha

Square Enix is no stranger to brand collaborations. Through the lifespan of Final Fantasy XIV, the developer and publisher has teamed up to distribute unique mounts and emotes to players that participate and gobble up collaboration goods for the aforementioned rewards. The most recently FFXIV collaboration is with bubble tea brand Gong Cha to reward players with an exclusive mount, which everyone was excited for.

For posterities sake, I decided I would actually attempt at participating in a Final Fantasy XIV collaboration. Now that I was in North America, it would be significantly easier and I wouldn't be barred from obtaining a unique mount because I could get a specific Butterfinger bar in Germany, or the Pizza Hut at the hauptbahnhof (or main train station) wasn't part of a previous collaboration because it wasn't located in the United States. And with the Gong Cha having so many locations in my neighborhood I figured that there was a high chance I'd be able to obtain the exclusive collaboration mount (which is just a variation of a mount players can already obtain in game entirely for free, they just put a crown on a pig).

This was absolutely not the case. The Gong Cha FFXIV collaboration started on July 17, 2024. I thought about getting some bubble tea from Gong Cha on July 18, 2024 which meant that there was a high chance I would not be getting the mount. Which was entirely correct. I called my local Gong Cha to ask if there were any FFXIV mount codes still available, and I was promptly notified that no, there were not. Doing a quick search on Reddit and Twitter, I learned that Square Enix and Gong Cha decided that codes would be given out on scratch cards that are apparently in limited supply. Instead of taking the route of printing a code on a receipt, the code would instead be distributed through a select amount of these scratch cards. So even if you did go to a participating Gong Cha location (because not all of them are), you'd run the risk of spending around $20 on bubble tea for nothing — not even a commemorative key chain, since those are also sold out depending on the store you go to.

Now $20 on a mount is a bit steep. But arguably, it is cheaper than most everything you will find on Square Enix's official Final Fantasy XIV Online Store. Mounts there range from $12 to $37 depending on how many players each mount can carry, how old a mount is, and if it was tied to a previous seasonal event. Even then, paying $20 for what is effectively the same mount players can get through Nu Mou Tribe Quests in Shadowbringers feels a little pricy.

Now this isn't the first time Square Enix has had some difficulties with Final Fantasy XIV collaborations. There was the aforementioned Pizza Hut collaboration, which distributed a pizza eating emote through purchasing a pizza from participating locations, that also distributed codes in limited supply. This emote can now be purchased on the Final Fantasy XIV Online Store for $7. Or the Butterfinger collaboration, which netted players an exclusive chocolate-colored Korpokkur which were then made available through a Twitch campaign in 2024 to celebrate the release of Dawntrail. There were difficulties redeeming codes for this, so I suppose Square Enix figured that distributing this mount for free was probably a good idea. This makes me wonder if the now-exclusive Porxie mount will eventually be available to obtain through other means. Which would be nice, because I guess these collaborations are mostly about the experience of gathering as many Butterfinger bars in your arms as possible to get mounts for you and your friends, or waiting two hours for bubble tea only to be told that the store has run out of codes.

Final Fantasy XIV is a popular game, there's no doubt about that. So it makes me wonder why code distribution for these exclusive mounts or emotes are distributed the way they are. I mean, it's definitely a system that works for Japan, but that can't be said for other regions. And I think of Square Enix is going to continue to try and bring brand collaborations to North America and Europe, they should do so with those respective regions in mind. Because the worst case scenario are these codes being sold online for hundreds of dollars, which is already happening, and players feeling burned by a lack of proper rollout for what should be an exciting event for the community.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X. The FFXIV Gong Cha collaboration will run from July 17 to August 28, 2024.

persona 5 royal hot sauces coffee

Jade City Foods and Atlus have teamed up on a new collection of hot sauces and coffee beans based on Persona 5 Royal. You can also get an entire set of the hot sauces if you're not sure which one you want to be.

There are six hot sauces in total, with three of them having the Royal Trio on the label and the other three having Ann's Persona Carmen. This is likely due to Carmen being the fire specialist with her collection of Agi spells. All of the hot sauces cost $18 and the complete set costs $90. The flavors are:

  • Agi: Roasted jalapeno sauce
  • Agidyne: 7 pot primo sauce
  • Agilao: Strawberry habanero sauce
  • Crow: Scotch bonnet & yellow ghost pepper sauce
  • Joker: Reaper, ghost, scorpion pepper sauce
  • Violet: Blue raspberry habanero sauce

It's unknown if these hot sauces will pair well with your coffee and curry combo. But you can always try!

As for the coffees, they're more based on locations and groups. Each bag contains 12 oz of coffee beans and cost $20. In a wild steal, you can get the 3-pack for $50. The flavors are:

  • Cafe Leblanc: Bold, flavorful, strong (chocolate, caramel)
  • Phantom Thieves of Hearts: Round, balanced (fruit acidity and boldness)
  • Shujin Academy: Sweet, light, fruit-forward (cherry, chocolate)

Persona 5 Royal is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and the Windows PC.

Nintendo Switch Famicom Controllers

Nintendo announced that the Family Computer (Famicom) controllers for the Nintendo Switch are now available to buy for everyone via the company's official Japanese store. Previously exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, these controllers can now be bought by anyone.

The Famicom Controllers, priced at ¥6,578 (approximately $42 USD) each, are designed to replicate the classic feel of playing on the original Family Computer system on the Switch. They can be attached to the Nintendo Switch console for charging, much like the standard Joy-Con controllers. However, due to their limited button layout, Nintendo noted that the controllers are only compatible with the games in the Famicom Nintendo Switch Online app and Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition.

Customers can purchase up to four controllers per person. The expected delivery date is typically between two to six days after ordering, excluding some isolated islands. The store only ships to people in Japan.

Nintendo hasn't made any worldwide announcements as of yet regarding whether or not this change could be made globally. The US website for the Nintendo Switch Online service still shows the NES Switch controllers as an offer for subscribers. That set normally costs $59.99.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is available on the Nintendo Switch worldwide.
