Sons of the Forest building guide – how to build your base

Sons of the Forest building can be a bit tricky, especially for players not familiar with the base-building and survival genres. The building in this game works differently than it did in its predecessor, The Forest, and there's nuance to it. We've been through many cycles of building bases and protecting them from hungry cannibals, so whether you're a seasoned survival game enthusiast or are new to the genre, we can explain those nuances to you and provide a thorough breakdown of how Sons of the Forest building works.

Note that building in Sons of the Forest has two modes. One , which we'll call 'classic mode,' is similar to construction in The Forest. In this mode, you'll made 'ghost' structures that serve as pre-built templates, allowing you then to drop in the materials needed to complete the build. The other mode, which we'll call 'free build,' is more flexible, enabling players to develop custom bases and fortifications. Both have utility, so you'll want to experiment with both for different needs.

You can open your build guide with a keypress, which is set to 'B' unless you've changed it. It will default to the more flexible mode, which is more of a reference to show you how, exactly, to build what you want to build. As you begin to build, the game will offer a number of visual guidelines as you begin your construction. You can then switch to classic mode with a keypress, which defaults to 'X.' This will give you a number of options, which we discuss below.

Do you also feel guilty each time Sage yells, "Must I do everything?" in Valorant? Technically, it's not her job to break into the enemy lines and draw first blood in the FPS game, but she doesn't have an option. Valorant's 'middle-seat mommy' is a jack of all trades; Riot gave us a tender-hearted healer, and we whipped up an aggressive battle Sage out of it.

Sons of the Forest katana location and how to get it

The Sons of the Forest katana is one of the hardest weapons to find, and not just because of the dangers you face along the way – as we discovered, it's also in a pretty remote location. While most early-game items are located in the north-west of the island, the katana couldn't be further away, so make sure you're equipped for a long trek if you want this special weapon. Good news is, we found the katana, and we're about to show you exactly where and how to get it.

The katana is a fan-favourite weapon in The Forest, the Sons of the Forest predecessor, and looks to be just as iconic in the sequel. Among the Sons of the Forest weapons that deal the most damage, the only downside of the katana is that it doesn't block incoming attacks, but if you're quick and wily it can be one of the most unstoppable tools in your arsenal. Before you head out to collect the Sons of the Forest katana, stock up on food, make sure you know how to get water in the survival game, and be sure to find the Sons of the Forest keycards - you've got a long journey ahead, and you don't want to have to turn back.

As the discussion around Escape From Tarkov cheats and hackers rears its ugly head once more, the head of developer Battlestate Games makes an emphatic statement declaring the team's strong stance against hacks and reassuring players that the team is banning "several thousand cheaters a day." Tips for Using Throne in Octopath Traveler 2

Throne is such a cool character in Octopath Traveler 2. She's fantastic at dealing damage, but while also being able to sneakily debuff enemies, buff allies, and also maybe attack or debuff when things happen in battle. Not to mention she's one of the best ways to quickly build up a large inventory of all sorts of items and make money, thanks to her ability to Steal from NPCs with her daytime Path Action. She's useful and great!

How Do You Recruit Throne in Octopath Traveler 2

Throne is in New Delsta. If you d idn't pick her as your starting character, then you'll need to head there to meet her. It's south of Flamechurch, where Temenos' story starts.

How Does Throne Work in Octopath Traveler 2

First, always make sure it is nighttime when Throne is in your party and you're just exploring the wilds. Her Blessing of Darkness talent is invaluable. It boosts everyone's stats briefly, increasing their attack power and speed. It's wonderful. She also has access to swords and daggers as her weapons, so you have two weakness options covered right away.

As you'd expect from a thief, Throne is a swift attacker in Octopath Traveler that also involves buffs and debuffs. But honestly, some of the best abilities come just from learning four or six of her skills so you can get Incidental Attack and Ensnare as Support Skills.

Here are her skills. Note that Aeber's Reckoning can only be learned after you possess the other seven skills.

  • Steal: 2SP for a chance to steal from an enemy.
  • Darkest Night: 7SP to deal dark damage to an enemy.
  • HP Thief: 6SP to attack twice with a knife and then get some HP based on damage dealt.
  • Surprise Attack: 12SP to use a sword to attack a foe. If Throne is one of the first people to act that turn, she deals more damage.
  • Armor Corrosive: 4SP to debuff an enemy's defense.
  • Swift Step: 4SP to buff Throne's speed.
  • Shackle Foe: 4SP to debuff an enemy's attack.
  • Aeber's Reckoning: 30SP to deal knife damage to every enemy. Like Surprise Attack, acting sooner in the turn means more damage dealt.

So, make sure Throne gets HP Thief and Surprise Attack as soon as possible. Both help a lot! Then, I'd say Armor Corrosive and Shackle Foe.

Her Support Skills are incredible, though. You want to get Incidental Attack by learning four as soon as possible, as then there's a 50% chance she'll also attack and deal damage whenever she uses a support skill. Then, you want to get six skills quickly, because Ensnare means there's a 50% chance she'll inflict a debuff to an enemy after they deal physical damage to her. Fleetfoot, her "unlock five skills" Support Ability, is also pretty helpful, since it boosts her speed by 50 when equipped.

What's also great about Throne is her limit break Latent Power Leave no Trace. It lets her act a second time after her first turn. It comes in very handy when facing large groups or bosses. (Or when you're first starting and don't have a full party.)

Tips for Using Throne in Octopath Traveler 2

What About Throne Octopath Traveler 2 Path Actions?

Throne is incredible for adventuring. During the day, she can Steal. This is a percentage-based action that allows her to take items from NPCs' inventory. It took be 30 hours before I actually spent money in shops in Octopath Traveler 2, because instead I had Throne stealing everything for me. It's also fantastic for getting all those key items you'll eventually need for side stories before you even realize those quests exist.

Ambush is also okay! However, there are other people who are better at knocking out NPCs to gain access to areas or complete side stories. Throne's is based on her level. Meanwhile, Castti's involves items and you could use Ochette's Provoke to just beat up people with a wide array of animals. It's not the best "this person needs to get out of my way and sleep" skill, but it's fine.

Which Secondary Jobs are Good for Throne in Octopath Traveler 2

I'm only going to recommend one secondary job for Throne here, simply because I had such good luck with her using it that I strongly suggest everyone test it out.

Make Throne a hunter.

It is such a good fit for her. You have no idea. Since the thief has a lot of debuff and status ailment opportunities, this adds to that while also letting her use an axe or bow. Take Aim is fantastic, since it boosts the critical chance for her and all allies. Leghold Trap slows the foe down and makes them act last. Plus Cleaving Blow lets her deal axe damage while giving herself a temporary buff. It is such a blessing.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. A demo is available.

Here are tips for recruiting Hikari in Octopath Traveler 2, using his path actions, and picking his secondary jobs.

I'm going to be real with you all here. In Octopath Traveler 2, Partitio is the character I add to the party when I'm in a town. I have him along if I do some shopping. (You know, for items that I can't get more of via Throne's five-finger discount.) I use him to hire people or buy the items Throne can't steal. He's a good character with some great supportive potential! But from what I've experienced, he's most critical when it comes to unlocking things like the boat, tavern gramophone, and Mercantile Manuscript.

How Do You Recruit Partitio in Octopath Traveler 2

If you didn't start with Partitio, then you'll need to visit Oresrush to add this merchant to your Octopath Traveler 2 party. Oresrush is right near Cropdale, where Agnea starts, and Ryu, where Hikari's story begins.

How Does Partitio Work in Octopath Traveler 2

The merchant job in Octopath Traveler 2 is essentially a support role, with anyone who holds the role using bows and polearms/spears as their sole weapons. The abilities Partitio learns from this primary role do things like help allies, such as by giving them BP, or increase his own survivability.

Here are the skills for this job. Note that Bifelgan's Bounty can only be learned after Partitio learns all seven other skills.

  • Arrow of Fortune: 12SP to deal damage with arrows and get extra JP depending on the damage dealt.
  • Rest: 0SP to restore HP, SP, and cure ailments.
  • Collect: 2SP to get leaves from an enemy.
  • Ember: 7SP to deal single-target fire damage.
  • Donate BP: 6SP to give an ally 1BP (boost point).
  • Sidestep: 10SP to dodge a physical attack once.
  • Hired Help: 0SP to pay leaves to make someone appear to attack/buff/etc for the character.
  • Bifelgan's Bounty: 30SP to deal damage to a foe and get the same amount dealt in leaves.

Partitio can also summon an NPC he's hired to the field to attack.

A lot of these skills are very helpful! I'd recommend getting Sidestep as soon as you can, as it is great during boss fights. (Bosses usually telegraph their Big Attack, after all.) Donate SP ended up coming in way more handy that I expected, so grab that one ASAP too.

As for his Latent Power limit break, Hoot and Holler completely fills his BP. You can then use that to perform a stronger than usual attack. You could also use Donate BP to give them to an ally.

Here are tips for recruiting Hikari in Octopath Traveler 2, using his path actions, and picking his secondary jobs.

What About Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 Path Actions?

This is where Partitio comes in really handy. Purchase is a fantastic daytime Path Action to get items. Especially if you've been using Throne to steal whenever possible, meaning you have a good stockpile of leaves. You can easily get key items from people's inventories or special equipment better than what's in the nearby shop.

But also, Partitio is great when you're doing regular shopping. This is because his Hire nighttime Path Action is fantastic for getting discounts. When he hires someone, you'll of course see how strong the new buddy is and what kind of skill they'll use once you summon them. However, their Merchant Talents is the real winning deal here. You can get things like drastic discounts or bonuses, usually based on a certain percentage, when Partitio hired a person and goes to shop. It's fantastic.

Which Secondary Jobs are Good for Partitio in Octopath Traveler 2

There are three great ways you could take Partitio with an Octopath Traveler 2 secondary job. However, the ones I'm going to suggest result in three different sorts of builds.

One is to go ahead and make him a fighter. Especially since he can heal himself and has abilities that let him dodge attacks. I love the Inventor job for him for this reason. It gives him access to the sword and axe weapons. Plus, you get some fun additional attacks and buffs/debuffs.

Another is to have some fun and try making him something of a mage. Scholar Partitio ends up working well, since you add a staff to his list of weapons and give him a bunch of elemental attacks that can hit every enemy.

Finally, making Partitio a dancer in Octopath Traveler 2 is fun too! You give him a knife when you do that. You also get a lot of supportive skills and some additional attacks that make him great at assisting allies and annoying enemies.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. A demo is available.

Metroid Prime Remastered

The Metroid series is no stranger to extreme highs and lows. Fortunately, there is no better time to be a fan of the series (or become one), as the 2020s is seeing the start of a new Metroid renaissance. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption released in 2007 for the Wii, and people would experience a 10-year draught until the release of Metroid: Samus Returns on the Nintendo 3DS, with a couple of very divisive titles releasing in the meantime. This left players craving to step back into Samus Aran's iconic power suit in a brand-new adventure, but it wouldn't be until 2021's Metroid Dread that the series would truly re-emerge from deep space. Finally, the long-rumored Metroid Prime Remastered is real and out, and it is arguably the most comprehensive, polished, and definitive way of experiencing a timeless classic. Not to mention, it is the perfect way to whet the appetite of the public ahead of Metroid Prime 4.

Metroid Prime Remastered

Metroid Prime Remastered is set between the events of Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid: Samus Returns, both remakes of Metroid and Metroid II: Return of Samus. After the destruction of Zebes in Metroid: Zero Mission, Samus Aran sets out to pursue the remains of the Space Pirates she fought. She arrives at Tallon IV, a former Chozo colony that was hit long ago by a meteorite containing a dangerous and enigmatic substance called Phazon. During her mission, Samus discovers that the remaining Space Pirates are using Phazon to experiment on their soldiers and, with the titular Metroids, trying to create a dangerous army to conquer the galaxy and transcend life.

The game opens with a short cutscene of Samus Aran landing on a Space Pirate vessel. Some light exposition is available if the player enables the new narration setting, previously exclusive to the original Japanese and European GameCube release. Otherwise, the game throws you right into the action. Metroid Prime Remastered doesn't offer much more in the way of motive, instead relying on the player choosing to explore the mystery of what happened in Tallon IV. You do this by using your scan visor and checking text entries, Space Pirate logs, and Chozo diaries. It really surprised me how dark and foreboding most of the entries, lore, and the overall narrative of the game are. It never reaches a point where it feels grim or gratuitous, but the writing doesn't skirt around some gruesome details regarding the Space Pirates, how awful they are, and the way some of them meet their end.

Metroid Prime Remastered

The enhanced visuals are fantastic, and they help make Tallon IV feel like a real ghost planet where something terrible happened. I played halfway through the original game in the Wii, and while some of the art direction changed in the Remaster, it still manages to make you feel like everything stayed the same in the best way possible. Lightning and particles are particular standouts, with some rain effects reacting in real time to the position of the player. Everything in the visual department is a straight upgrade of a game that already looked great back in 2002. The soundtrack and sound design are fantastic, with some standout tracks like the "Chozo Ghost" battle music, and the "Talon Overworld" track. Sound effects feel punchy and offer great feedback during combat.

In terms of gameplay, Metroid Prime Remastered doesn't hold players' hands. To navigate the maze-like structure of Tallon IV, you need to acquire different traversal tools, along with Beam upgrades. These include the Wave Beam, Frost Beam, and Plasma Beam, each with a different missile special move, unique rate of fire, and damage values. As for visors, you start with you standard combat and scan visor, and you eventually acquire the thermal and X-ray visors. However, once you start to pile up these upgrades, it can be tremendously easy to forget where you're supposed to go to use them. To avoid wandering aimlessly, I would recommend taking notes, or using the Switch's screenshot feature to mark particular rooms and locations that you might want to revisit.

For instance, I initially missed the Charge Beam upgrade that you can get early on in the Chozo Ruins. I got distracted exploring and ended up having to backtrack to obtain it. This leads me to the hint system. If you deactivate this option in the settings menu, the game won't ever tell you where to go. I was expecting the hints to feel cheap, and thought I would do well without them. But after just a few hours, I caved in and realized that the game is very disorienting if you're not using it, especially if you're not familiarized with the layout of Tallon IV.

Combat can be challenging at times, and some Game Overs are bound to happen. Most enemies only respawn after leaving a room and wandering for a bit, and resources can be scarce. In that way, it is not too different from a classic side-scrolling Metroid game. Early on, I lost two and a half hours of progress after some turrets annihilated me at Magmoor Caverns. Had I decided to backtrack and find a Save Station, instead of pushing forward, I could have avoided that from happening. However, Save Stations and elevators leading to other zones are out of the way most of the time, and backtracking through already cleared rooms can be very tedious.

Metroid Prime Remastered

Enemy variety is somewhat limited, with most enemies being alien creatures, or different types of space pirates and metroids. Later in the game, you will encounter some varieties space pirates and metroid that can only be damaged by a particular elemental beam, indicated by their color scheme. This makes each beam feel a bit samey, instead of their own weapon, and renders them simple keys to unlock doors and fight certain enemies. An interesting feature carried over from Metroid Prime Trilogy is the Morph Ball jump ability. The game doesn't explain it once you obtain it. You can use it from the moment you obtain the Morph Ball bombs upgrade, and to use it all you need to do is press the X button while using the Morph Ball, or shake your Joy-Cons or Pro Controller if you have motion controls on.

Arguably the best quality of life addition to the game is the different control schemes. For the first time in the series, players can play with dualstick controls, but the game offers two other control settings, these being the classic GameCube scheme, and the scheme added to the Wii version. On top of that, gyro controls can be paired with dualstick controls. Players can also select a variety of settings for the lock on targeting, with options to lock on and keep the reticle in place, or move the reticle once locked on, either with the sticks or with motion controls. Players can mix and match as much as they want.

The original Metroid Prime was a great game 20 years ago, and Metroid Prime Remastered continues to be great game nowadays. Furthermore, it follows the "if it's not broken, do not fix it" philosophy, much like other recent and excellent remasters. This simple approach to modernizing a game maintains everything that made the original work, while updating its control scheme, its visuals, and adding a few extras along the way. While this means that a few dated elements remain unchanged, the quality of the game is such that this is not enough to taint the overall excellent experience the game has to offer.

Metroid Prime Remastered is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch.

Tips for Using Hikari in Octopath Traveler 2

There are certain characters you'll consider big damage dealers and honestly pretty essential in Octopath Traveler 2, and Hikari is one of them. He's the warrior of the group, and he can end up being an absolutely incredible character. If built properly by using Challenge whenever possible, then you'll end up with your second one-person-army in the game. (The first is Ochette.)

How Do You Recruit Hikari in Octopath Traveler 2

When the game begins, Hikari is in Ryu if you need to recruit him due to not picking him as your first character. That means he's past Canalbrine, where Castti is, and not far from Oresrush, where you find Partitio. So if you didn't start out with this warrior, you'll find him there.

How Does Hikari Work in Octopath Traveler 2

Hikari is around to deal damage. You want him equipped with the best possible weapons, and you want to have him Challenge as many NPCs as he can to get more Learned Skills.

But without Challenge, these are the job abilities he can learn. Note that Brand's Thunder can only be learned after the other seven are.

  • Aggressive Slash: 9SP to deal random sword damage to enemies three times.
  • Piercing Thrust: 12SP to deal spear damage, and 25% of the time it will land a critical.
  • Abide: 4SP for a temporarily physical attack buff.
  • Enervating Slash: 7SP to remove buffs on an enemy, then deal damage that increases for each one removed.
  • Stout Wall: 4SP for a temporary defense buff.
  • Incite: 4SP to draw enemy attacks temporarily.
  • Vengeful Blade: 6SP to temporarily be able to counter attacks, and each time you do counter you'll reduce Shield Points.
  • Brand's Thunder: 30SP to deal sword attack damage.

Which skills to prioritize depends on the kind of build you want for Hikari. If you want him to be a damage-dealing tank, get Stout Wall, Incite, and Vengeful Blade as soon as you can. If you're going to be all about dealing damage, then I'd say make sure his moveset includes Aggressive Slash, Piercing Thrust, Abide, and Enervating Slash ASAP.

His limit break Latent Power Shadow's Hold adds three more special attacks to Hikari's repertoire. Each one involves dealing a large amount of damage. I like Hienka best, because it lets him hit one enemy twice, but then also act again after everyone else already acted that turn. It's incredible both for dealing damage and acting strategically. However, Tenretsuzan hits a single foe incredibly hard, especially if they're weak to sword-based attacks. Sogetsusen is a fun one, as it deals sword and spear damage to every enemy, and I loved it for the boss fights where the boss summons minions to assist them.

Tips for Using Hikari in Octopath Traveler 2

What About Hikari's Octopath Traveler 2 Path Actions?

Oh boy is Hikari fun. Hikari is a lot like Ochette, in that keeping both around and having them face lots of enemies makes them stronger. With Ochette, that means building up her collection of monster buddies for Provoke. For Hikari, that means using Challenge to fight NPCs during the day to learn their skills, which you can then use as Learned Skills in battle. You can basically make Hikari not only an incredible attacker, but something of a mage by doing this! It's fantastic. He's great. Hikari is absolutely worth having around as often as possible.

However, it does mean making sure he's strong enough to survive these NPC fights and taking him to every town. However, it's worth it.

Hikari is also fantastic to have around at night. This is because of his Bribe ability. If you need information, but Castti's level is too low to Inquire, Osvald's Scrutinize has a low rate of success, and Temenos can't hit the weaknesses of the NPC to break them for information with Coerce, then Bribe them with Hikari. It will cost you, yes. But it makes it so easy to find details you need.

Which Secondary Jobs are Good for Hikari in Octopath Traveler 2

Since Hikari is a warrior, he can use swords and polearms. What you want to do is make him a one-man-army. This means getting Hikari as many possible weapons as possible with his secondary job in Octopath Traveler 2.

So, I'd say make him an armsmaster. That is, if you earned that secret job. It gives the person who equips it the ability to use every possible weapon.

If you don't have the armsmaster role yet, then Hikari should be a hunter. This gives him access to the bow and axe, bringing his total number of weapons up to four. The hunter also has some skills that will help him out, like Take Aim to buff critical rate and accuracy, Precise Shot for a double bow attack, and the Cleaving Blow axe attack that can buff.

Osvald is your Octopath Traveler 2 scholar, which means he's the groups "default" mage. Now, this isn't to say he's the only one. With secondary jobs, the way the apothecary works, and such, other folks can be using elemental attacks too. But it might make it easier to think of him being in that "box."

How Do You Recruit Osvald in Octopath Traveler 2

If you didn't start with Osvald in Octopath Traveler 2, then you'll find him lying in the snow in Southern Cape Cold Snows, just below the city of Cape Cold and above the Abandoned Village and Flamechurch.

Note that if you choose to see the start of his story right away, it will be a while. You'll see his chapter one and two segments one after the other.

Tips for Using Osvald in Octopath Traveler 2

How Does Osvald Work in Octopath Traveler 2

Like I said, he's a mage. He can eventually learn all of the following skills. Note that Alephan's Wisdom will only unlock after he learns the other seven. Also, please prioritize him getting Fireball, Icewind, and Lightning Bolt. As a scholar's only weapon access is to a staff, you'll be relying on these magical abilities to suss out enemies' weaknesses.

  • Fireball: 14SP for fire damage to all foes.
  • Icewind: 14SP for ice damage to all foes.
  • Lightning Bolt: 14SP for lightning damage to all foes.
  • Analyze: 1SP to reveal one week point randomly for an enemy.
  • Stroke of Genius: 5SP to get two random buffs.
  • Elemental Barrage: 10SP to deal 3-5 hits of random fire, ice, or lightning damage to enemies.
  • Advanced Magic: 15SP to double the power of an ally's magical attacks.
  • Alephan's Wisdom: 30SP to boost an ally's magical attacks by three times.

His one talent means the second he enters a battle, he'll identify one weakness for each foe. This carries over, so as long as he's around, you can be learning all these skills without needing to Analyze. I'd honestly say you can hold off on learning Analyze as a result.

The best scholar abilities to make sure Osvald knows ASAP are Fireball, Icewind, Lightning Bolt, Elemental Barrage, and Stroke of Genius. This should also mean he'll get the scholar support skills he needs most, which is Elemental Augmentation. You need scholar skills for it. When equipped it increases elemental attack power by 50.

His limit break "Latent Power" attack allows him to deal major magical damage to a single enemy with one of his elemental spells that normally hits everyone.

What About Osvald's Octopath Traveler 2 Path Actions?

Osvald can Scrutinize during the day and Mug at night. Scrutinize is the helpful one. It's a great way to get information out of people. It's percentage based, so you don't have the same limitation as Castti's Inquire that requires her to be at a certain level to ask for information. If you're new to a town, have Osvald around to (hopefully) get information out of almost everyone. As long as it was above 50%, I noticed he almost always succeeded.

Mug is the way of getting items out of NPCs at night. However, I'd say avoid it. Osvald's magic can get costly, and his being a scholar really limits his ability to take advantage of weapon weaknesses unless he has the right secondary job. It's better to let Throne Steal or Partitio Purchase to get what you want.

Tips for Using Osvald in Octopath Traveler 2

Which Secondary Jobs are Good for Osvald in Octopath Traveler 2

Make him a cleric or apothecary.

Yes, with a cleric he isn't gaining any additional weapons to take advantage of that weakness. But for this build, you're making him the team mage. You probably won't need Temenos around then, unless you really need to Guide or Coerce someone. (But anyways, Hikari's Bribe is better for nighttime information gathering, and you can always have Ochette, Agnea, or Partitio around to get an NPC to go with you.)

With the apothecary option, you're getting some healing and support skills like Healing Touch, Rehabilitate, and Replenish Health. However, you're also getting the ability to use an axe as an additional weapon, assisting with his range.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. A demo is available.

Sons of the Forest mutants, cannibals, and enemies list

Sons of the Forest mutants are the horrifying creatures trying to kill you in the survival horror game - as if being stranded in the wild wasn't hard enough already. It's worth mentioning that some of these mutants can be friendly, and we'll be covering those in this list too. That said, be careful who you trust.

The upcoming survival game follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, The Forest, with the same cannibals and creepy mutants threatening your life after you're stranded on a strange island. However, there are a few different gruesome mutants in Sons of the Forest, including one almost entirely made up of fingers. Before you dive into Sons of the Forest multiplayer with your friends, make sure you actually live long enough to explore the large Sons of the Forest map by familiarising yourself with all of the Sons of the Forest mutants and cannibals.

Do Sons of the Forest trees regrow?

Wondering if Sons of the Forest trees regrow over time in Endnight's survival horror game? It may seem like a silly question, you're in a forest surrounded by trees, right? But wood is an essential resource in building a sturdy, cannibal-safe base, as well as lighting fires and crafting recipes, so you'll need plenty of it.

The best location to focus your Sons of the Forest building and set up camp is somewhere surrounded by trees, both for cover and resources. Preferably, you also want to find somewhere with rivers and streams around you, making it easier to get water in Sons of the Forest and keep your stamina up for carrying all those logs. But whether you build among the trees or out in the open in the crafting game, you might still find yourself running out of building materials. So, do trees regrow in Sons of the Forest?

If you want to know how to get Virginia in Sons of the Forest, you'll need to know how to put your weapons away and tread carefully or you can scare her away.      Sons of the Forest grave – how to get the shotgun

The Sons of the Forest grave is a site that you will discover early on in your story, and is where you'll find the powerful Sons of the Forest shotgun buried. Just moments into the sandbox game, you uncover your GPS tracker, which itself will trigger your first story task: Find Team B. Three members of your team will then be indicated on your GPS tracker by a purple marker - one of which is this gravesite.

The Sons of the Forest purple marker in question appears on the north-west corner of the map, on land (the next nearest marker is in the ocean). Head there, and your GPS tracker - which operates as your Sons of the Forest map - will start to beep. In fact, it gets quite distracting, so once you know where you're going you may want to put your map down using the 'M' button. It's also worth mentioning that you'll need to have found the Sons of the Forest shovel first. Here's everything you need to know before reaching the purple marker grave and digging up that Sons of the Forest shotgun.

Review: Grim Guardians: Demon Purge Feels Like a 'Lite' Castlevania

Inti Creates often ends up being known for two kinds of games. One is the 2D run-and-gun sorts of titles along the lines of Azure Striker Gunvolt, Blaster Master Zero, and Mega Man. The other is the fanservice-filled Gal Gun on-rails shooters. So… what happens if you mash those two together? It turns out, you get a 2D, stage-based, Castlevania-like affair starring characters from Gal Gun. While it doesn't hit the heights of the always impressive Azure Striker Gunvolt, it can be quite fun.

Set in the same world as Gal Gun: Double Peace, both Shinobu Kamizono and her younger sister Maya are demon hunters and high school students. When Kurona gains infinite power, she uses it to bring the demon world into the real one, transforming Sakurazaki Academy into her castle and leaving students captured inside. The sisters use their unique spiritual abilities to find out how Kurona developed these abilities, defeat the monsters and demons lurking throughout the building, and hopefully restore a sense of normalcy.

Maya and Shinobu

Remember how Inti Creates worked on both Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon games? You will after you play Grim Guardians: Demon Purge for a while. While I'd say both are superior, the same sort of DNA is infused into this project. While you will eventually get weapons and abilities that will make returning to completed levels attractive, each area you traverse is essentially treated as a separate "stage" of the castle. This makes it feel more like some of the older Castlevania sorts of titles, rather than a true Metroidvanias.

Shinobu and Maya each feature unique abilities, much like the characters in Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, which offer more tactical options when approaching situations. Shinobu can attack from a distance and tends to equip subweapons that inflict damage from far away. She also has more health. However, her ranged gun will eventually need to reload and doesn't deal as much damage as Maya's more direct attacks. Meanwhile, Maya is more frail as far as health goes, but she hits much harder and has subweapons that can create protective shields that damage enemies or deal more stationary, close-range damage.

Review: Grim Guardians: Demon Purge Feels Like a 'Lite' Castlevania

Having two heroines means different approaches to levels too. There is a two-player co-op mode, which allows people to take on the challenge together. When both sisters are alive and a gauge is filled, you can use an overpowered special attack to damage all foes ahead of them onscreen. However, if you play alone, then you can swap between the two heroines. This also allows something of a "second chance" system, as if one dies, the other will appear at the start of the most recent room you entered and be able to go to her sister and perform CPR to "revive" her with some health.

I'd almost say that this, as well as other elements, can leave Grim Guardians: Demon Purge feeling a bit easy. It isn't terribly long, as I ended up beating its eight levels in almost seven hours. The characters eventually grow in strength, which makes them more formidable. Shinobu even takes on a bit of a healer role after a point. The boss fights feature rather predictable patterns, and it wasn't until the last fourth of the game that I started sweating. It's also generally very straightforward, and as long as you lean into characters' strengths and swap often, it's never too creative when it comes to level design or enemy approaches.

Review: Grim Guardians: Demon Purge Feels Like a 'Lite' Castlevania

However, Grim Guardians: Demon Purge is great about referencing its source material. As a nod to this being a former school, and one filled with female students, you'll often find classmates to rescue! In addition to Shinobu, Maya, and Kurona, other characters from the Gal Gun series appear. When they do, they're cleverly referenced. They'll also end up in occasionally recurring placements, so you still get to see your "friends" around. Even though there's something of a minimalistic approach to sprites, returning cast members are distinctive and familiar. There are also multiple endings, which is a fun bonus.

I'd say Grim Guardians: Demon Purge is a good snack for people who enjoy Inti Creates titles, the Bloodstained: Circle of the Moon spin-offs, or games that are Metroidvania-adjacent. It's a brief diversion, which isn't a bad thing! In a world where so many games can be 20-40 hours long, sometimes I want something silly and fun that will keep me busy for one or two evenings. I really appreciated what Inti Creates accomplished with the generally delightful Grim Guardians: Demon Purge.

Grim Guardians: Demon Purge is available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

If you want a jukebox in Octopath Traveler 2 taverns, you need to complete a Scents of Commerce quest for a gramophone.

In Octopath Traveler 2, there are Scent of Commerce quests Partitio can undertake, and the one in Winterbloom involves bringing three musicians to Audley to add a gramophone to every tavern. However, you aren't given any hints as to where these three NPCs may be. Unless you were playing close attention as you visited different towns in the game, you might have even passed them by without notice.

Here are the three musicians you'll need to have Partitio bring to Winterbloom for that Octopath Traveler 2 Scent of Commerce tavern gramophone quest. In each case, immediately bring them to Audley's mansion at the east side of town to have him record their performance. Note that if you use someone other than Partitio to get the NPC in your party, you'll need to have Partitio and that person in the party at once when going to speak to Audley.

  • Guitarist: When you walk into Crackridge during the day, you'll see the Guitarist at the entrance to town. Now, you can have someone like Temenos guide him or you can do like I did and wait until he goes to his home in the evening and have Partitio hire him for 2,000 leaves.
  • Piano-Playing Cleric: When you visit Flamechurch, head to the chapel where Temenos started his journey. During the day, there will be a cleric NPC at the piano. Have Temenos guide them, then go back to Winterbloom.
  • Violinist: In Canalbrine's tavern during the day, there will be a traveling violinist on the first floor. Use Temenos' guide path action, then go talk to Audley.

If you want a jukebox in Octopath Traveler 2 taverns, you need to complete a Scents of Commerce quest for a gramophone
Once all three musicians made their recordings, Audley and Partitio will talk. The final product will be dubbed the "gramophone." You'll then be able to get records from shops and people to play on it, adding a jukebox function to the game. The three records you'll get from completing the Octopath Traveler 2 Scent of Commerce Winterbloom route tavern gramophone quest are "Cait's Theme ~Piano Version~," "Cait's Theme ~Guitar Version~," and "Cait's Theme ~Violin Version~."

Octopath Traveler 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. A demo is available.

How to Finish 'Through a Child's Eyes' in Octopath Traveler 2

Sometimes, you need certain party combinations to complete Octopath Traveler 2 side stories, and "Through a Child's Eyes" is one of those times. The Brooding Girl in Wellgrove is worried about her mother and stepfather. She says she wants them to all be together. Which means solving it involves having both NPCs with you the next time you talk to her.

This means two people in the party who can do things like recruit, befriend, or guide. I had Ochette use some jerky to get the stepfather, who is standing outside the Dancer guild in the town. Then, I used Partitio to hire the mother for 1,600 leaves. She's standing between the inn and tavern in town.

If you don't have both parents, the Brooding Girl will be upset when you talk to her. However, if you do, then the family will talk it out and resolve what's going on with them. You'll then get 5,000 leaves and a Charm of Compassion, and the Octopath Traveler 2 Through a Child's Eyes side story will be done.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. A demo is available that lets you sample the beginning of each of the playable characters' stories.

In an interview with Dengeki, Final Fantasy XVI developers discussed the age rating and how the buddies in the game will work.

In an interview with Dengeki Online, Final Fantasy XVI Producer Naoki Yoshida and Directors Hiroshi Takai and Kazutoyo Maehiro revealed information about FFXVI. The developers talked about the reason for wanting to raise the game's age rating and detailed some new gameplay mechanics like "Buddies." [Thanks, Dengeki!]

Director Takai confirmed that they deliberately raised the age rating of the game, with the purpose of broadening the range of expression available with a higher rating. This is due to the Japanese CERO rating system being very restrictive when it comes to depiction of blood, wounds, or violence. Yoshida cited the development of FFXIV as having difficulties including certain scenes, due to the rating of the game being 15 ages or higher.

In terms of new gameplay details, the developers made a distinction between party members, which will fight for themselves automatically, and "Buddies" like Torgal the dog. These work similar to party members, with the exception of being able to receive partial orders, such as "heal" or "choose from several attack options." In addition, the game won't have elemental weaknesses, with each Eikon and element acting as distinct mechanics that enable different actions and moves.

Final Fantasy XVI will release first for PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023.

Octopath Traveler 2 A Present for My Son Side Story

There are times when Octopath Traveler 2 NPCs will be vague when it comes to what will complete their side stories. They'll offer a vague idea of what they're going through or what they want. But their profiles and request won't be obvious. This is true of the Thoughtful Father in Winterbloom and his "A Present for My Son" Octopath Traveler 2 quest.

When you talk to the Thoughtful Father, he'll only explain his son is going off to study to become a scholar. He wants to give his kid a gift. However, he doesn't offer any idea of what you should possibly find for him.

Now, the "A Present for My Son" Octopath Traveler 2 side story took way longer for me than it should have, because I didn't think to go to Cape Cold to check. (I figured the town was too small and not known for "scholar" characters.) However, on the far west side of town in a house is Retired Scholar with a Silver Quill in his inventory. Steal or buy it.

Head back to Winterbloom and give it to the Thoughtful Father. An event will trigger. You'll then get 300 leaves, a Magic Nut (M), and a Refreshing Jam.
