PSA: Nintendo has confirmed that new Switch - OLED Model owners should not remove the protective screen that is already on the system as it will help prevent any harm from being done to the user should the glass screen break.
Hitman - Game of the Year Edition was released on GOG.com late last month and following weeks of player complaints and review bombing due to obtrusive online DRM requirements, it has now been removed from the storefront.
The enhanced edition of Quake, released in August to celebrate the game's 25th anniversary, just got a major update. It improves the game's bots, and adds bot support for a bunch more deathmatch maps, among other bug fixes.
GOG have pulled Hitman from sale. The bald assassin joined the DRM-free digital shop in September, but was met with damning reviews. That's because, while theoretically DRM-free, Hitman relies on online connectivity for a lot of its features to work. In pulling the game offline, GOG apologised, saying that they "shouldn't have released it in its current form."

We all are pretty much familiar with the role of Wingsuit and its importance in the Far Cry series. Wingsuit has been a part of the Far Cry games for a long time and Far Cry 6 is no different. In our recent posts, we talked about how to enable Aim Assist and how to enable Left-Handed […]
October has arrived in full. There's a slight crispness to the air, leaves are starting to turn color, moms are planting mums in pots, and every restaurant or coffee shop is putting pumpkin spice flavoring in everything. I mean, everything, FFS.
Despite the lovely fall weather we are having, instead of being outside and enjoying a day without sweating in our favorite shirt, we're going to be inside playing games.
Some of us are trying out improved console offerings, trying not to be left for dead, reveling in the latest iteration of their favorite series, or playing something entirely new - at least to their console of choice. That said, a couple of us are too busy this weekend to play anything, which is a bit of a bummer, but there's always next weekend. There are four in a month, after all. Sometimes there are five, but October isn't a lucky month.
Gaming and gamers aren't what they used to be. In the '80s, strict gatekeepers foisted action-flick-derivative moneyspinners on children; now, one-person indie devs suggest conceptual art experiences to midlife wage-slaves. Nerd Monkeys is hunting that time-poor customer with games "that you can play through from start to finish and still have time to enjoy other fine things in life". This is Nerd Monkeys' first collection and a second is already in the works, but for now the five games on offer in SGC - Short Games Collection #1 are Swallow the Sea, Ghostein, A Game Literally About Doing Your Taxes, The Good Time Garden and Uranus.
The games aren't presented in a particular order but we'll start with Swallow the Sea, in which the central conceit is the compounding of experiences to build scale and significance. You are a sea organism, preying on smaller organisms while being hunted by larger ones. As you devour prey you grow, as does your potential to eat the big things that were previously terrorising you. The reflexivity of coming to consume things like yourself leverages the participatory essence of games: your own emotions and actions are packaged and served up for bitesize consumption, making every gulp mean something. It's like Katamari if you could somehow collect yourself, or Donut County if you could somehow make a hole fall inside another hole. However, while this is a great idea to get going it finishes abruptly. It was tasty, but we were expecting to swallow the whole sea, as promised. Instead, we were left feeling peckish.
eFootball 2022 arrived on Steam on September 30 to one of the worst receptions the gaming industry has ever witnessed. It currently stands on Steam with a review score of "Overwhelmingly Negative" from over 19,500 reviews and a SteamDB score of 13.12%. During the last day, it's clawed back a couple of percent so now it's just the worst-reviewed full game on Steam - the Europa Universalis IV: Leviathan expansion is now the worst thing on Steam once again, although that's only from around 4,500 reviews.
Konami promised that the first update for eFootball 2022 would arrive in October, and it seems to be on track to keep that promise just about - the patch to 0.9.1 will be out on October 28, just before Halloween.
Cute and spooky life-sim game, Cozy Grove, has received a free new update, developer Spry Fox has announced. Dubbed 'The Autumn Update', the new patch is now live and adds a plethora of fresh content to the charming indie title. The update is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox One […]

The Wine 6.19 development release is out now following more weeks of hacking away trying to create the best possible Windows compatibility layer. Part of what makes up Steam Play Proton. Once a year or so, a new stable release is made.
IPHlpApi, NsiProxy, WineDbg and a few other modules converted to PE.
More HID joystick work.
Kernel parts of GDI moved to Win32u.
More work towards Dwarf 3/4 debug support.
With HID joystick enabled by default as of Wine 6.18, this further work continues to help improve compatibility. The original idea was to bring together joystick support under one banner in Wine, hopefully resulting in more games and applications working properly.
The continued conversion of various modules to PE is another that will gradually increase compatibility in many ways over time for expected behaviour. Previously Wine has built its Win32 libraries (like DLLs and EXEs) as ELF but for many reasons (like better compatibility) they've started to move them over to use PE instead.
For bugs reported as fixed as of this release they noted 22 including issues solved for: Open Metronome, FreeOrion, Levelhead, Darksiders Warmastered Edition, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Control Ultimate Edition, A Plague Tale: Innocence, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales and more.

What's the best Metroid game of all time? The reveal and release of 'Metroid 5', better known as Metroid Dread, has had many of us going back to either revisit games in the franchise or catch up on ones we missed first time round. We compiled our personal ranking of the best Metroid games long ago with the sublime Metroid Prime in the number one spot, but while we enjoy Dread — and patiently await more information on the ever-in-development Metroid Prime 4 — we thought it was time to let Nintendo Life readers have their say.
While Amazon has been continually adding new servers to ease the lag and queue times reported when the game launched, only newer players or characters can really take advantage of them. Amazon promised that it would offer free server transfers for everyone, so initial players could move their characters and progress over to a new server without issue.
Those server transfers were supposed to arrive last week, but Amazon has delayed them to next week instead. "During our testing, we uncovered some edge cases where the transfer experience does not meet our standards for its release," community manager TrevzorFTW says in a new blog post. "This means that we will be taking some extra time to get these issues resolved before we feel comfortable giving everyone their free server transfer token."
It looks like Ubisoft is revisiting the popular Doktor's Curse event for Rainbow Six Siege this Halloween. The Siege team has released a live-action teaser trailer for the event that seems to suggest it will be a "revamp" of Doktor's Curse, rather than a sequel.
Other than the teaser trailer there's no word yet on how much of a revamp Doktor's Curse 2021 will be compared to the original - but with Extraction on the way, it's possible the event could have an alternate mode where the monsters get a chance to fight back.
