Starfield's galaxy is mostly lifeless, but that's a good thing

Starfield is going to be enormous, not just in terms of its literal size but for RPG games as a genre. The next step for the Fallout and Skyrim formula that Bethesda - and others - have been perfecting now for decades, we can expect hundreds upon hundreds of quests, characters, customization options, and more. Starfield planets, however, will be somewhat sparsely populated, with only 10% of them supporting life, according to Todd Howard. Taken at face value, that might make Starfield sound a bit empty or lacking in 'content,' but there's more to videogames than just collecting, interacting with, and completing 'stuff' - ahead of the Starfield release date, the prospect of empty planets actually sounds like a good thing.

Fastest VPN for maximum performance 2023

So which is the fastest VPN? You don't want your internet privacy to come at the price of a slower connection, after all. To answer that question, it's best to look at the download speeds of the major VPN providers. This can be most easily quantified in megabits per second (Mbit/s). Then, to give a level playing-field, they can then be tested through the OpenVPN protocol.

However, one problem that we face in determining the fastest VPN is that, by their very nature, VPNs use a huge number of different servers, and different servers can be faster or slower than one another. Two people using the same VPN provider, for example, might experience different connection speeds because one of them uses a server in Japan, while another uses a server in Argentina. This happens with even the best VPN services, but rest assured that the speeds of the providers in this guide will put them among the best gaming VPNs.

SuperGroupies Omori

SuperGroupies announced a collaboration with Omocat, the developers of Omori. The company developed four items associated with the indie game based on the characters of Omori and Basil. The items also feature motifs inspired by their friends.

https://twitter.com/SuperGroupiesUS/status/1673964458971107328

Supergroupies made Omori and Basil backpacks and watches based on them. The Omori watch is a monochrome design featuring a Shiny Knife and a black lightbulb at the eight and six o'clock spots, respectively. The strap features various items from the game too. The Omori backpack is similarly monochrome, but has a bright purple inner lining referencing the confrontation between Omori and Sunny.

The Basil watch has a flower motif, with plants lining the wooden face. The back of the watch features the silhouette of the Stranger. The Basil backpack is light green, representing his love for plants. It also comes with a removable charm modeled on his photo album. The inside lining features a sunflower design.

The backpacks are each available from SuperGroupies for $180 plus tax, while the watches are $190 plus tax each. SuperGroupies are taking pre-orders until July 17, 2023. The estimated delivery time for these items is January 2024.

Omori will be getting other merchandise too. The Good Smile Company have also confirmed that an Omori Nendoroid is also set to release at a future date.

Omori is out now for the PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PS4.

Bandai Namco Cross Store London

Bandai Namco will be opening a new retail store in London in July 2023. The Bandai Namco Cross Store will feature six official shops offering a variety of collectibles, cards and other merchandise based on Bandai Namco's franchises.

The Bandai Namco Cross Store already has two locations in Japan, located in Yokohama and Fukuoka. The new location in Camden Market in London will be the first Cross Store location outside Japan.

https://twitter.com/bncrossstoreuk/status/1673999440330342404

The six shops within the Bandai Namco Cross Store London location are:

  • Banpresto Official Shop
  • Gashapon Bandai Official Shop
  • Ichibankuji Official Shop
  • MegaHouse Official Store
  • One Piece Card Game Official Shop
  • Sun-Star Stationery Shop

There will also be an arcade and an event space with the store.

Many of these stores will be making their first appearances in the UK. However, it's not the first time Gashapon Bandai has opened outside Japan, as a pop-up store in Los Angeles is operating until August 2023.

It's also not the first Bandai Namco attraction to open in London. The Namco Funscape opened in Westminster in 1997 and offered up arcade attractions. Due to redevelopment plans, Bandai Namco were forced to close the location in 2021. Other Namco Funscape locations are still in operation in other parts of the UK.

The Bandai Namco Cross Store UK location will be opening in July 2023. Bandai Namco will provide more details closer to the opening date.

Now that I finished it, I understand and I am also here to say: You should definitely play Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, but read nothing about the story going in. It's truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

That being said, I'm still going to quickly describe the plot. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective follows the story of Sissel, a recently deceased ghost who discovers that he can manipulate the objects around him through the powers of the dead. "Ghost Tricks," they're called. He can also turn back time to four minutes before a person's death and change their fate. Using these powers, he plans to uncover the mystery of his lost memories, as well as figure out what's behind the odd happenings around town. Unfortunately, he's on borrowed time. Sissel only has until dawn to do all this before he fades away for good.

[caption id="attachment_970578" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Ghost Trick review 1 Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

What I really liked about Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is its super tight plot. All of the characters, even the seemingly one-off ones, had some connection to the story. Due to the more episodic nature of Ace Attorney, some characters existed only to give clues to Phoenix. But in Ghost Trick, practically everyone has something to do with the plot and feels necessary to its development. Because Sissel only has a limited amount of time, there aren't a lot of detours or scenes that feel unnecessary. But there are still plenty of opportunities for him and his kooky cast of companions to chat for some levity.

If you've played Ace Attorney before, then you're probably familiar with Shu Takumi's brand of humor. It's fast-paced and full of running jokes. Though there are some brief quips here and there, even during serious scenes, the emotional ones are played straight so touching moments land perfectly. All of the characters are really fun, and no one's idiosyncrasy borders on the irritating. Missile in particular is amazing, and I always loved his scenes. "Play this game for Missile" was something I heard a lot, and I get it. He's really one of the best parts of Ghost Trick.

[caption id="attachment_970579" align="alignnone" width="1200"]ghost trick missile Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

Like Ace Attorney, it's a puzzle game. But Ghost Trick focuses more on manipulating the objects around you. For example, some of the stages involve moving things from Point A to Point B by creating makeshift tools. A lot of the times, you have to wait around for a bit for the right moment, or else it won't work. I have to admit that this kind of thinking is not my strongest suit; I'm much better at the Ace Attorney type of word puzzles. So I felt super dumb a lot of times, and the hints aren't that helpful. But the feeling of seeing everything come together like a Rube Goldberg machine is really satisfying. It's a really unique puzzle mechanic that never really gets old.

Now, some readers may have already played Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective before and wish to know how this plays as a port. It feels like it was always a one-screen game! I really can't tell that this was native to the DS. The animations for the characters (especially Bailey and Inspector Cabanela) are super smooth; the extra work in 3D animating them during the original release really paid off here. All of the information you need to see fits really well on the side borders of the screen. It was a smart way to combine both screens into one (the timer was originally on the top) and to occupy space that would have been empty (since the resolution of the game would have looked weird otherwise).

[caption id="attachment_970581" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Ghost Trick review trick screen Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

If I had to raise one negative about Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, it's that it can get frustrating waiting and watching for the right moment. This is definitely a personal preference though. You can't fast forward the scenes to the exact moment you want. So if what you need to do to avert a fate is a bit later in a conversation, you might be waiting around for a while. Mind, it's not a very long wait, though! It's just a bit unfortunate when you can't figure something out and have to do things again and again.

Though there was an iOS port in 2010 (2012 for the rest of the world), not everyone could have access to it. With this release, I hope that the game will get a bit of a revival and more recognition. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is rather niche, though with a hardcore cult following. But with its updated looks and wider availability, hopefully it will emerge into the spotlight and dance its way into people's hearts.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective will come out for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC on June 30, 2023.

Street Fighter 6 Soundtrack Starts Streaming in July

Capcom announced that it will share the Street Fighter 6 soundtrack on streaming services. There's no exact date for it yet. However, it will show up online in July 2023. All 284 songs will be available. The announcement also included a video teasing it, as it spends almost eight minutes highlighting snippets of every track.

While this is going to be a streaming situation, the tracks are still organized as though they are on CDs. So "disc one" in the video has 24 tracks, the second has 25, the third includes 27, and there are 40 songs on the fourth. Note that the video doesn't go over every Street Fighter 6 song that will be streaming online, as the video only offers a sample of the soundtrack.

Here's the full teaser for the soundtrack. Things begin with Rocco808 and Randy Marx's "Not on the Sidelines," which is the game's theme song. The first few minutes also covers examples of the characters' theme songs.

Street Fighter 6 is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on June 2, 2023, and it will also eventually appear in arcades.

If Luke wins a match in Street Fighter 6, you might get to hear voice actor Aleks Le shout, "Woo! Let's Go!" In a new video clip on his official Twitter account, Le explained how that victory line came to be. It turns out he ad-libbed it and pulled inspiration from the fighting game community.
