I wasn't immediately sure who the latest Steam client beta update, which allows Steam review writers to optionally attach their hardware specs and anonymised framerate data, was for. The reviewers? Not unless they want to inadvertently reveal that the reason they aren't getting 360fps in Space Marine 2 is because they're trying to run it on a 3DFX Voodoo Banshee. Developers? Performance data could be useful but if I ran a QA department, I'd want that coming from observable tests, not from the bottom of a slur-filled missive from ViperSniper69 (0.2hrs on record).

Then I read the words "This feature is currently in Beta with a focus on devices running SteamOS," and realised: this is for Valve themselves. A devious ploy to record how thousands of hitherto unbenchmarked games run on the Steam Deck and, eventually, the new Steam Machine.

Hatsune Miku Honkai: Star Rail Art Shared Ahead of 4.0

Ahead of the 4.0 version update for Honkai: Star Rail, Crypton and HoYoVerse shared official promotional crossover art featuring Hatsune Miku. It's drawn by the artist Kei "KEI" Garou, who's known for Vocaloid art. In addition to a Planarcadia theme, it also features the Astral Express conductor Pom-Pom. The announcement also clarified this only pertains to the art and there will be no Hatsune Miku items or music found in-game.

The artwork features Pom-Pom from Honkai: Star Rail posed in front of Hatsune Miku. He's wearing his standard conductor costume, while she's in her usual Vocaloid uniform. Both characters are in a similar pose, with him holding his long bunny ears and her holding her twintails. The background features the same sort of color scheme and characters as shown in Planarcadia promotions.

Here's how the full KEI artwork looks:

This isn't the only time Hatsune Miku ended up being used to celebrate Honkai: Star Rail. Mitchie M used the Vocaloid for the promotional song "Memi Memi Myun Myun." That was an Amphoreous-themed track featuring Mem the Memosprite tied to the Trailblazer's Remembrance path form. Other notable characters from that storyline appeared at the end of the video.

You can watch the "Memi Memi Myun Myun" Hatsune Miku song below.

Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the 4.0 update debuts on February 13, 2026.

Code Vein 2 Character Keychains and Figure Appear Lou Magmell

Bandai Namco announced a line of Code Vein 2 character keychains alongside Kotobukiya's latest reveal of its Lou MagMell figure. The rubber charms will show up in Gashapon capsule machines in Japan the week of February 15, 2026. There's no release window for the figure. All items should eventually appear overseas, with the keychains in Bandai Namco's Gashapon US and Canadian machines and figure in Kotobukiya's storefronts

In the case of the keychains, these are flat rubber mascot charms that feature eight characters from Code Vein 2 with chibi versions of their normal designs. Each one is about two inches tall. They feature a ball-chain keychain at the top. A single try costs 300円 (~$2).

Here's the full list of everyone in that set:

  • Holly Asturias
  • Iris MagMell
  • Josee Anjou
  • Lou MagMell
  • Lyle McLeish
  • Noah G. MagMell
  • Valentin Voda
  • Zenon Gryfgote

As for the figure, it is a 1/7 scale item. It will be a static one of Lou sitting on a stool. It will also feature the same gold accents from the game and highlight the heart she shares with the protagonist.

Here are all the preliminary photos and pieces of concept art from Bandai Namco and Kotobukiya. First, here are the eight keychain designs.

And here's how the latest painted prototype of the figure looks:

Intro – Lance
My focus this week has been split between two huge stories: the Winter Olympics in Milan and the stunning abduction of the mother of one of the US’s most beloved morning television hosts.

These stories could not be more different, but they both have tech components. For the Olympics, it’s been, among other things, those drones, tiny sub-250g flyers chasing lugers, ski-jumpers, and cross-country skiers across various frozen surfaces, delivering eye-popping video – and some distracting noise that’s dividing TV viewers and athletes alike.

The Nancy Guthrie case’s connection to my world largely revolves around the chilling Nest Video Doorbell footage that the FBI somehow retrieved, even though Guthrie was on a free account – and it raises questions about the level of access Google has to users’ footage.

I did have time for other pursuits, like testing out Apple's new AirTag, which chirps loudly enough to be heard from one end of my house to the other, prepping for the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked in San Francisco, and wondering when I might encounter those potentially annoying ChatGPT ads.

I’m also fascinated by the lengths companies are going to in order to skirt the RAM crisis, and offer you seemingly more affordable systems (maybe even ones you’ll never own).

Finally, I just realized that we’re hours from Valentine’s Day, and I feel woefully unprepared. I might be able to save the day by finding a good rom-com for my wife and I to stream, or maybe we'll just dig into Season 4 of Bridgerton – check out our weekend streaming round-up if you’re looking for something to watch yourself.

Enjoy your break, and we’ll see you next week.
