Welcome to the Week in Review
Welcome
Google is playing catch-up on the AI front, and it shows. Sure, Gemini is now one of the best AI tools out there, and everything from Gmail to Android to Google Workspace has AI baked right into it – but it’s still ChatGPT that dominates the headlines.

That’s a big deal for Google, and something it has to respond to. For the past 20 years it has totally dominated the internet, but the internet of the next 20 years looks like being a very different beast – and the battle for supremacy over it is being fought as we speak.

All of which explains why this week’s Google I/O keynote was a festival of AI, with barely a mention of anything else. No Pixel hardware, no Android updates, no Maps, no Photos… just lots and lots of AI. That’s not to say it wasn’t interesting – far from it. In fact, it was a fascinating insight into the technology of the future, but with the future being here and now. You can read all about it in the articles featured below.

It’s been a busy old week in tech, with this year’s Computex event also catching our attention. We had editors on the ground in Taipei, and they’ve picked their favorite laptops from the show below – and yes, some of them will have AI features.

AI will likely also be a key part of Apple’s WWDC conference next month, and the tech giant announced the dates for that this week (about an hour or so before I/O kicked off, which we’re sure was a coincidence).

Before that, though, there’s the Memorial Day sales – which are live now and will peak over this long weekend. Whatever else you’re up to, have a browse of the deals and see if anything takes your fancy.
