Apparently it's 2012 all over again, and publishers are once more attempting the move of requiring always-on internet connections to play single-player games. That's been revealed to be the case for Call of Duty: Black Op 6's single-player campaign, not just on PC as it has been for years, but now on consoles too.

     AMD's

AMD is reportedly planning to release its new lineup of Ryzen 9000 X3D CPUs in September 2024, a few months after the first Zen 5 chips are unleashed, and this time the chip maker says its 3D V-cache is going to be "even better" than on its current lineup of X3D processors. The news comes after AMD officially lifted the lid on its forthcoming lineup of Zen 5 AMD Ryzen CPUs at Computex, which it says are going to be released in July 2024.

AMD's 3D V-cache is used in the company's best gaming CPUs, which have the 'X3D' suffix at the end of their model names, and include a big helping of extra cache on top of the CPU cores. In our Ryzen 7 7800X3D review, we found that this tech substantially increased frame rates in some games, and it's hoped that the next generation of AMD X3D CPUs will be even better for gaming.

The huge new MechWarrior game finally has a release date

MechWarrior 5: Clans is the latest entry in the long-running series of large-scale robot shooters that began all the way back in 1989 with a pen-and-paper classic. The Clans, one of the factions taking part in a never-ending galactic war, hasn't been seen since 1995's MechWarriors 2, but now they're back in a co-op squad shooter that serves as an entry point into the series.

CoD Black Ops 6 release date, story, and new trailers

What is the Black Ops 6 release date? There is a sizable portion of the Call of Duty fandom that rejoices whenever a new Black Ops game is on the horizon; the more cerebral branch of the first-person shooter not only brings best-in-class multiplayer gameplay but also a renewed focus on the single-player story. Black Ops isn't afraid to push the limits of Call of Duty, and going from early reveals, the newest entry is looking to go beyond anything we've seen before.

You can usually set your clock to a Call of Duty release, and it looks like this year will be no different. The to and fro of CoD brands sees us froing to Black Ops this year, and back in time if the teasers are to be believed - although not as far as previous installments.      Monster Hunter Wilds release date estimate, trailers, and latest news

When is the Monster Hunter Wilds release date? With the recent resurgence of Monster Hunter World and Rise in late 2023, there's naturally a bit of a buzz regarding the first sixth-generation Monster Hunter. The first trailer had a hunter riding his bird friend as they desperately tried to escape a horde of armored beasts like Simba weaving between the stampeding wildebeest in The Lion King.

However, we recently got to see a significant amount of Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay, as well as some brand-new monsters and all the characters you meet on the expedition. We had already seen some big changes to the RPG game series, not least of which is the sheer level of mobility the mount offers, but some newly revealed mechanics excite us greatly. With the power offered by new-generation consoles, perhaps this will be the first in the series to embrace a fully open-world game concept. We can all but estimate here, but here is everything we currently know about the Monster Hunter Wilds release date and all the game features shown off so far.

This is an Asus laptop lid, and you can change the design any time

Asus has just potentially changed the design of laptop lids forever, showcasing a new colored E ink screen that takes over the whole lid. The new Project Dali system effectively enables you to put any colored artwork on an Asus gaming laptop lid, and it will stay there until you update it with a new design, even when the lid is closed or the laptop is unpowered.

We spotted the Asus Project Dali display while we were treading the show floor at Computex 2024, and we were wowed by the quality of the results, with Asus basically having a laptop lid art gallery on display in its booth. In the future, you could forget having just a manufacturer logo on the lids of the best gaming laptops, and instead just assume you can clad them in your own choice of artwork.

If you can't log into FF14, it's typically because of planned maintenance.      New Stalker 2 gameplay trailer makes the apocalypse look amazing

I'm going to say something about the new gameplay trailer for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl that's probably going to sound stupid. The thing that has struck me, more than anything, is how Stalker 2 looks like Stalker…2. I know that's an obvious statement but it's the thought that won't go away. LA Noire is one of those games that's always just been there for me. It was my favorite as a teenager, then I wrote my Master's thesis on it - wherever I have gone in life, Cole, Jack, Elsa, and the crew have followed. While some cross their fingers tight and hope for a sequel, I've always argued that we don't need an LA Noire 2; in fact a follow-up would just ruin the first game entirely. But I'm all for a spiritual sequel, and Nobody Wants to Die from Critical Hit Games may just be the thing I've been looking for.

One of my absolute most favouritest Steam Deck cases, besides the one you get for free with the Steam Deck OLED, is the Dbrand Project Killswitch. It's not so much a carrying vessel as a hardened second skin, providing protection without all the bag-hogging bulk of a traditional case – while throwing in handy bonuses like a clip-on kickstand and grippy thumbstick covers. For owners of the Asus ROG Ally, the recent launch of a Project Killswitch for their own handheld PC should therefore represent glad tidings with extra gladness, even if it won't also fit the upcoming ROG Ally X.

Thank the new device's bigger battery, wider SSD and reworked connection layout for that particular lack of forwards compatibility, as the ROG Ally X's thicker dimensions will make it just slightly too beefy to slip into the Killswitch's skintight silicone. A shame, but at least it makes a quality addition to the original Ally right this second. I've been manhandling one for a week now, and it's just as practical and protective as the Steam Deck version.

"Deus Ex but tiny and hilarious" is how I pitch the first Streets of Rogue to people in elevators. Then I kick the elevator control panel to pieces, climb out the hatch, and cut the cord with a buzzsaw I smuggled in earlier. "It's also total chaos!" I yell, as the elevator plummets. "Ha ha ha ha ha ha!" Streets of Rogue 2 is looking similarly chaotic. But one thing has been brought to order: its release date. It's coming to early access on August 14th, while a new trailer (below) shows horse riding, flame throwing, and speed boating. My favourite moment is when a man pumps magic gas into a room full of people doing zumba, and it turns them all into giants, and they freak out and start smashing the walls in a panic.

FFXIV Dawntrail Expansion Shows New Corn Cob Creature

Square Enix revealed a possible corn cob creature or monster design that will appear in the upcoming FFXIV Dawntrail expansion. The post shared on social media reads "many encounters with the unknown await you on Dawntrail."

The body of the FFXIV creature is divided between the corn cob itself, which sports a short ponytail, and a separate leafy stalk monster body from which short legs and arms sprout. The creature is carrying a cloth sack across its body, and the animation showcased in the social media post has the creature jump in surprise, with the corn cob jumping out of the main stalk body and returning to it swiftly. It is unclear if the new creature will be an enemy or minion.

You can check out the new corn cob creature that will appear in the FFXIV Dawntrail expansion here:

https://twitter.com/FF_XIV_JP/status/1799637541806801176

Square Enix previously showed off another new creature that will debut with the FFXIV Dawntrail expansion, and seems to be inspired by the species of prickly pear cactus native to the Mesoamerican region, as well as by the many Cactuar monsters found in the Final Fantasy series.

As a reminder, the new Shadow European Data Center and its four Worlds will arrive to FFXIV on June 11, 2024, as well as the new Dynamis North American Data Center.

Final Fantasy XIV is readily available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC, and the Dawntrail expansion will arrive on July 2, 2024.

Metal Gear Solid Delta Battle Damage and Camera System Detailed

After the reveal of a new gameplay trailer during the Xbox Game Showcase 2024, Konami offered new details about the Battle Damage system as well as the new camera modes available in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

The new information appeared in the official website for the game, and it goes over how the Battle Damage system will now affect Naked Snake's clothes with wear and tear as players advance in the Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater. Similarly, any injuries Snake receives will leave different permanent scars and marks on his body once healed.

Regarding the camera system, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will allow players to use a new third-person view. This camera system is similar to the one introduced in the Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D version of the game that appeared on the Nintendo 3DS. Additionally, an overhead view legacy style will be available as well. At the time of writing, it is unclear if you can swap between both camera systems on the go.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is currently in development for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The original version of the game is available as part of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, which is readily available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Interview: Akitoshi Kawazu Talks About Old and New SaGa Games

The SaGa series has blossomed over the years, turning into one in which we're assured new games will always appear worldwide and additional entries will continue the series' legacy. Following the recent release of SaGa Emerald Beyond, Siliconera got to ask series creator Akitoshi Kawazu about past entries in the series like SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu, SaGa 3: Jikuu no Hasha 3D, and Unlimited SaGa, currently running ones, and the future of SaGa games as a whole.

Jenni Lada: In Japan, SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu and SaGa 3: Jikuu no Hasha 3D remakes both appeared on the DS. How would you feel about a Collection of SaGa style worldwide release of those titles?

Akitoshi Kawazu: The DS versions would need to be redesigned, but it would be nice to release them if possible. No concrete plans are in progress at this time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bVv1u7S81o&ab_channel=%E4%B8%96%E7%95%8C%E3%81%B2%E3%82%8D%E3%81%97

Unlimited SaGa is one of the more experimental games in the series. Looking back on it, what did you learn from that installment?

Akitoshi Kawazu: I learned that players can be surprisingly conservative.

If you would get a chance to remaster Unlimited SaGa and get it a second chance worldwide, what additional features or elements might you want to include in it?

Akitoshi Kawazu: There are many ways to go about this, from putting it out as-is to completely revamping it, so I don't have anything in mind yet. The battle system would probably go through an overhaul.

Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe is coming up on its sixth anniversary. What would you like to do next in the game?

Akitoshi Kawazu: The most important thing is to continue the service, so there are no plans to make any major, drastic changes. We've provided many characters and styles, so it would be great if we could do something that utilizes them. However, since implementing anything is never a simple matter, I'm hoping to take my time and proceed with intention.

Image via Square Enix

You've teased a SaGa Frontier 2 remaster as a follow up to SaGa Frontier Remastered. What would you most like to do in such a project, and is there anything you didn't get to achieve in SaGa Frontier Remastered that you'd like to try in a return to the sequel?

Akitoshi Kawazu: It's important to deliver to fans who loved the past works, so we want to continue to do so. On the other hand, making it possible for new users to play refined versions of past works is another area where we would like to take on more challenges.

What would you like to do next with the SaGa series and new games?

Akitoshi Kawazu: Experimentation is a mainstay for SaGa, so I'd like to continue this with whatever comes next. Perhaps I'll experiment with something a bit more "conventional" next.
