Viral horror game boasting 1.5 billion views gets surprise sequel

Sometimes, a horror game blows up on Twitch and YouTube and reaches a massive audience. In the past, we've seen this happen with Five Nights At Freddy's, Poppy Playtime, Slender, and, most recently, Content Warning. Alongside these hits is Amanda the Adventurer, which came out on Steam last year and has managed to rack up an astounding 1.5 billion views on YouTube related to it thanks to the fervent attention fans of the horror game have provided. Now, the small studio behind the first game is looking to continue its success with the announcement of a sequel, Amanda the Adventurer 2, slated to come out this year.

Stellaris meets Two Point Hospital in new sci fi tycoon game, out soon

Management and tycoon games, from Tropico 6 to Planet Zoo, are a good time. As entries to the genre like Jurassic World Evolution 2 show, they can be an even better time when part of the player's management duties involves taking care of strange creatures. Galacticare is a game that understands this, offering a combination of the healthcare simulation aspects of Two Point Hospital and the sci fi creativity of Stellaris. It's looked like a smart idea since we first saw it announced last year, and now we're happy to see it's just received a launch date that's much closer than we anticipated.

Phoenix Wright style cyberpunk adventure launches on Steam

Just after he worked on the first Metal Gear, writer and director Hideo Kojima put out a cyberpunk adventure game called Snatcher. Heavily inspired by movies like Blade Runner and The Terminator, Snatcher never made a big splash outside of Japan — mostly because its English version hasn't been ported to modern videogame platforms — but its influence is felt in experimental, tech focused entries to the science fiction adventure game genre like Eliza, Orwell, République, and, notably, today's launch of Cyber Manhunt 2: New World.

Grab the most recent entry to a beloved open world series for under $5

Just Cause 4 may not be as well regarded as Just Cause 2 and Just Cause 3, but it's still a fantastic option for anyone looking to spend a while flinging themselves across a sandbox world and blowing up nearly everything they see. Though it has a story and curated mission design not unlike Grand Theft Auto 5 or Saints Row 4, Just Cause 4 is also, like the similarly anarchic Red Faction: Guerilla, at its best when players let those aspects of the game take a back seat and revel in the chaotic potential of its more free form design instead. Anyone looking to do just that is in luck as the game is currently on a massive discount on Steam.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Global Release Being Considered

Sega Sammy Holdings announced that the company is considering a global release of Persona 5: The Phantom X. The company's intention to prepare for a Japanese and worldwide release became public after the release of the latest Sega financial results in the fiscal year ending in March 2024. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Persona 5: The Phantom X started its open beta test in China on April 12, 2024, and officially released in South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on April 18. In addition, the latest financial results for Sega confirmed that the release of Persona 5: The Phantom X met the company's expectations.

Regarding the company's financial results, Sega announced an increase in sales and a decrease in profits year-over-year. The release of titles like Persona 3 Reload, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Vanillaware's Unicorn Overlord, and Football Manager 2024 (the first title in the series to release outside of Japan) contributed to the increase in sales. However, the decrease in profits came from the weak performance of the European market, and the according structural changes.

Developer Perfect World Games originally teased P5X in April 2021, as a mobile game titled Code Name: X. Persona 5: The Phantom X was later officially revealed in March 16, 2023.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is now available in China and South Korea for mobile devices and PC, and Sega is currently considering a global release of the game.

Claynel revealed its new figure will feature the Hololive Vtuber Iroha Kazama. Pre-orders for the figure have also opened on multiple web stores with an MSRP of 27,500 yen (~$176.50). The figure will be available in Japan and other select countries in 2025.

The 1/7 scale figure will have a total height of around 270 mm (~10.63 inches), from the pedestal's base to Iroha's ponytail ribbon. The figure set will also include Iroha's mascot tanuki Pokobee and the Chakimaru sword.

Here are some of the sample images for the figure:

The regional availability of this figure will be limited. While most Japan-based stores will only ship the figure domestically, there are some stores that can bring the figure outside Japan, although not all countries are covered. Hololive Vtubers have had numerous figures modeled after themselves. Good Smile Company has particularly revealed a large variety of figures ranging from the Pop Up Parade figure of Amane Kanata to the figma action figure of Kiara Takanashi.

The 1/7 scale figure of the Hololive Vtuber Iroha Kazama will be available in 2025.

Animal Well review

When Metroidvanias and platformers place players into hostile environments, we often also get means to defend ourselves or fight back. Animal Well involves a different approach. We're dumped into a dark, atmospheric space with occasionally hostile or foreboding elements with no means of attack, which makes for an interesting, thoughtful approach to exploration.

Animal Well begins in a foreign environment. Players begin their life as a small, blobby sort of creature with teeny legs. They hatch in a series of darkened caverns with water, animal, animal spirits, and the remains of statues, structures, and switches. An ethereal squirrel marks the first encounter. Is it a friend? A guide? Just a resident who happens to inhabit this space? You're left to your own conclusions. (If you recognize the name Nifflas or Knytt, expect a similar sort of adventure.)

In this situation, it works. Our avatar is a baby and newcomer to this world, just like we are. It knows as much as we do. The first few rooms act as a tutorial, minus actual tutorial elements. We learn our limitations. We can walk, jump, and climb. Find a phone? It can be used to save. We may happen upon an item like a match, which can later be used at a designated space to provide light for a darkened area. Firecrackers seem to grow like plants, and can be used to illuminate areas or distract more hostile entities. That squirrel from earlier? It might appear in a room as a hint that you're wandering into a series of spaces that could lead to a notable encounter or acquisition.

Said acquisitions end up being keys to new abilities or opportunities in Animal Well, much like in Metroidvanias or platformers. After a few aquatic encounters in one region that also helped me understand how bubbles could be used to access otherwise unreachable spaces, I found a chest with a bubble wand. This meant I could backtrack to a past place, which previously was off limits, and use the wand to finally jump up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfaqL1oQlck&ab_channel=NintendoofAmerica

In one space, there were two switches that would need to be flipped one after the other to eventually allow me to jump my way up to a higher place by causing blocks to disappear and reappear. It was impossible to do so alone and with my current equipment. After I got the disc, it could ricochet between the two switches to allow me to platform my way to a new room. Because we're left to our own devices, you need to experiment with these remnants left behind to understand what we're now able to do.

The thing about it is, while the atmosphere is interesting and there are moments when I felt a bit challenged, there were times when I felt a bit bored when walking through the Animal Well caverns. Some light backtracking can come into play, say when you find certain items you didn't have access to before. A few situations might feel threatening. But only a handful really tested me, and in one of those cases it was more because of the layout of the space and platforming ask than the being in front of me.

Admittedly, what I liked best about Animal Well were the renditions of animals. I appreciated encounters with each one. Were they peaceful? Could I make use of them somehow to advance? Would one be my enemy and require some sort of technique, platforming skill, or item to surpass?  It made running through places I'd already been or spaces that were otherwise a bit bland more interesting.

Animal Well is a minimalistic experience that is about taking in the things you see around you. Yes, there's platforming. You definitely need to keep roaming around and experimenting to find out which way you should go and where helpful items to progress may be. If the idea of being plopped in a foreign place that is ominous with no explanation and residents that may or may not want you there sounds appealing, Animal Well will prove an interesting trip and reward you with secrets to uncover.

Animal Well is available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC.

2B NieR: Automata Noodle Stopper Figure Arrives Next Year

Good Smile Company announced it will sell the FuRyu NieR: Automata 2B noodle stopper figure outside of Japan. It will appear in Q1 2025 and cost $33.99.

2B is wearing her standard dress from both the NieR: Automata game and anime adaptations for the figure. She's sitting with her hands bracing her. One leg is up, so it could also be perched on the edge of a cup or shelf, while the other is dangling down. She will be about five inches tall in total.

Here's a closer look at how this new 2B noodle stopper figure will look.

For those unfamiliar, a noodle stopper figure is designed to be used with instant ramen like Nissin Cup Noodle. The idea is you perch the toy on top of your food. It will then hold the lid in place and balance to help keep it warm. However, this is an optional use, and the position means they can also be displayed on top of shelves, books, boxes, or other items.

The NieR: Automata 2B noodle stopper figure will launch in Q1 2025. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll. The game is available on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

Arena Breakout Infinite Co OpMuch like Escape From Tarkov, Arena Breakout: Infinite has missions that require you to collect specific items from various points on the map and successfully extract with them. One of the first quests that you'll encounter in Arena Breakout is Personal Package. One of your contacts, Evita, needs you to collect a special envelope from the Artificial Lake on the Farm map. Thankfully, you get a quest marker on the map for this one, but it's still hard to find where the envelope is hidden. Arena Breakout Infinite Envelope Location Screenshot: PC Invasion To start this quest, load into the Farm map. Your destination is the Artificial Lake, a POI located in the northwestern corner of the map. Sometimes you'll spawn right next to the Artificial Lake, but you might get unlucky and end up starting your raid on the eastern edge of the Farm. It's a small map anyway, though, so it shouldn't take too long to get there. Once you reach the Artificial Lake...

Some players have found solutions that remedy these issues, however, so there are thankfully some things that you can try if Arena Breakout isn't running great on your PC.      How To Get Unstuck Outside The Map In Little Kitty, Big City Featured Image(1)Thankfully, Little Kitty, Big City is not a massive, complex triple-A game that can technologically crumble at any moment.
