I get that in-world the whole appeal of Dune's Arrakis is all of that spice it harbours, but to be honest the giant sandworms are a bit of a dealbreaker for me. Even still, I have to admit that Dune: Awakening looks pretty neat even with that ever present threat, and a new trailer all about exploring the desert planet that dropped this week has helped pique my interest a little further. For starters, that desert bike looks pretty nifty, my time in Sable taught me that I love a good zoom through beautiful, sandy vistas, and this looks to be similar, even if Dune: Awakening's world is a bit more hostile.

Remember when Nvidia announced that Half-Life 2 RTX mod way back in, crikey, 2023? Yeah, I didn't realise how long it had been either. To be perfectly honest I thought it had already come out, but apparently not, because just this week Nvidia shared that Half-Life 2 RTX is getting a demo next week on March 18th. No, the full mod still doesn't have a release date, but when do any game projects ever release quickly after they were announced?

A new week, a new Avowed update, and a pretty hefty one has arrived at that. Before we get on to some of the more notable changes, over on Obsidian's forum pages where you can read the full patch notes, the developer shared that in the coming weeks it plans to release a roadmap that will "go over some of the plans we have that will be coming to the game over the upcoming year." Whether that be DLC, free content, or just some planned gameplay changes, I couldn't tell you, your guess is as good as mine.

The Emperor's Caretaker Manga Offers a Different Take on Arranged Marriage

We often see manga with similar trends start to all appear at once when one ends up being successful. Visit any social media platform that tracked your interest or publisher site, and I'm sure you noticed one trend in shojo stories is a young woman with a sudden fiance or arranged marriage that miraculously works out. While The Emperor's Caretaker might seem like that at a glanced, the new Square Enix manga is instead an approach to the idea of an arranged marriage story that is instead very focused on interpersonal relationships, politics, hierarchy, and people growing beyond or maybe even challenging their expected roles over time. Volume one only just starts to get into things, but it steps the stage quite well.

Editor's Note: There will be mild spoilers for volume 1 of The Emperor's Caretaker manga below.

The new emperor is only five years old. However, that doesn't matter in the world of politics. People want his marriage arranged, and his older brother Regent Souren and him will be meeting potential prospects. Girls from each of the major families are being sent. However, one of them isn't really a "girl," and is actually a 17-year-old young woman named Linhua. Her chancellor father and head of the Liu family presented her with three options. She attends that ceremony to be considered, she tries to marry the possible womanizer Souren, or she marries Rui from the Li family. Her and her brother Xiuying are both opposed to that, so it's the selection process for her.

Much of this first volume deals with the political notions surrounding that competition. It really helps accentuate the fact that, while The Emperor's Caretaker starts out as manga about a possible arranged marriage, it quickly deviates from that to give Linhua an opportunity for a different type of future. Especially since its one that might better suit someone as clever and outspoken as her. When around the children who are attempting to be picked as a bride, she's just overwhelmed by how cute they all are. She wants to comfort and support them. Which, in turn, catches people's attention in a different way. So we see her tactfully managing little ones she's just met, showing her kindness and innate way with people.

We also see her intelligence at play. She knows this is all a political game, and that as such she needs to be very cautious about her behavior. When a little girl from the Li family accidentally breaks her erhu, she knows she can't make a big deal about it and needs to fix it, lest the relationship between the two families get even worse. She also does need to find one ASAP, and does, because it would cause offense to the emperor and his regent. So she's savvy enough to understand situations and search for practical, intelligent solutions that offer the best outcome for everyone.

But it's especially satisfying to see her forward nature and willful personality come through. Linhua, though a possible bride in a royal arranged marriage, constantly speaks her mind in The Emperor's Caretaker manga. We see how she "ran" off another potential suitor, which her older brother teases her about. More importantly, when it is her turn to perform in front of the emperor, she tactfully chooses a song with multiple meanings. While one is romantic and about stepping away from relationship, another is more familial and again about wishing a child well as they grow and go. So she's defying her father and signaling her intent to not be considered.

It is because of all this that a new path opens for Linhua. She's offered the option to become the titular The Emperor's Caretaker and help raise him as a court lady, forgoing any sort of arranged marriage in the manga. It's incredibly satisfying and helps set a fantastic tone going forward. Yes, there's still the option of romance with Souren. Yes, Rui from the Li family is still in the wings. Yes, she's still in this world of political intrigue. And yes, we still get to see an adorable little kid be cute and (hopefully) happy.

The first volume of The Emperor's Caretaker manga is really all about setting the stage. We're finding out who Linhua is, getting a sense of what Souren is like, and learning about some of the other major players who will appear in the series. It's establishing a foundation for a story that seems like it could be a strong one. Especially since it seems to emphasize that it will be as much about court life and a fight between ruling families for dominance as it is about a relationship between Linhua and Souren. I'm hoping it continues on this strong path.

Volume 1 of The Emperor's Caretaker is available via Square Enix, and volume 2 of the manga will debut on May 6, 2025.

Sports games typically offer different difficulty settings, but MLB The Show 25 takes it to an all-new level with the new system.

You can choose from nine different difficulty levels as you start playing the game, allowing you to pick an ideal experience based on your skill level. Whether you're an amateur or an MLB The Show veteran, the different difficulties will provide a perfect test for you on the virtual field.

MLB The Show 25 difficulty settings explained

You can choose the correct difficulty settings as you begin playing the game for the first time. You can change this later in the game from the settings. There's also an element of Dynamic Difficulty, but let's look at our base options.

A pitch being made in MLB The Show 25
Image via San Diego Studios

Difficulty setting Who is it for
Beginner Easiest difficulty setting that will teach you the core basics
Amateur Similar to beginner, but fielder and pitcher AI will be slightly more competitive
Minors This is the best setting to learn the game as the game is mildly difficult
Rookie This is the next choice for beginner players to improve the basics
Veteran This is a good starting point for returning players
All-Star Harder than the veteran difficulty as pitcher and fielder AI will be competitive
Hall of Famer This is a good choice for players who have been playing the last few The Show games
Legend Amazing choice for those who really want to test themselves against the AI, as the CPU will play like top human opponents
GOAT Hardest difficulty which will become available once someone goes past the 1000-rating threshold

There's one more difficulty settings: Dynamic. This will start the game at the lowest difficulty, and scale up based on how you perform.

Best difficulty settings in MLB The Show 25

The ultimate choice will depend on you, but here are a few guidelines to use.

  • Amateur: This should be the choice if you have never played an MLB The Show game before.
  • Veteran: If you have played casually in the past and know the basics, this is a good choice to test your abilities.
  • Hall of Famer: If you're a returning player who has sunk a lot of hours in the last few The Show titles, Hall of Famer it is.

The GOAT difficulty is the ultimate challenge; it goes a notch above Legend. This will become available once you surpass the 1000+ rating in Ranked Play. If you can't understand how hard it is, it's very difficult. Reaching such a rating requires you to play regularly and become very good at the fundamentals. Do note that the amount of handholding and AI assistance will reduce as you crank up the difficulty levels.

BitLife Lucky Duck challenge image

March is the month of luck in BitLife, with the Lucky Duck challenge testing how far you can push it. It starts simple enough, but this one ramps quickly, especially as your character reaches adulthood. If you thought 777 was a lucky number, wait to see what's in store here.

BitLife Lucky Duck challenge guide

BitLife's Lucky Duck challenge has five tasks to complete:

  • Be born in Ireland
  • Receive $777+ from your parents
  • Win $7,777,777+ at the casino
  • Hook up with 7+ people without getting an STI
  • Have 7+ children

Although you won't need any special career packs or expansions for this challenge, you will need a lot of in-game cash. If you don't have money, you'll need extra luck once your character hits the casino. Otherwise, this one is all about patience and determination.

Be born in Ireland

The first step to completing BitLife's Lucky Duck challenge is to create a character born in Ireland. It doesn't matter what your starting gender, town, or talents are as long as you pick Ireland as your country. However, being born into a wealthy or generous family will help you later.

Once you create your character, age up until they're old enough to date and visit the casino. Working part-time and full-time jobs will help you accumulate enough money for later tasks, but you can start with a low amount if you want to challenge yourself.

Receive money from your parents

Your next step is to ask for at least $777 from your parents. Or, well, €777 in this case. You can do this by heading into Relationships, choosing one of your parents, and selecting "Ask for Money."

The amount they'll give you depends on their wealth and generosity. Low generosity means they're unlikely to provide anything, even if you live in a rich household. Similarly, if their money is low but generosity is high, they'll give you what they can. Ideally, you'll have parents with high stats in both, but you can also make do with what you've got.

Win money at the casino

Here's where things get tricky. In BitLife, accessing the casino requires heading into Activities, Gamble, and any casino game you wish. If you have the casino expansion, you'll have eight options to choose from. For the rest of us, Blackjack is the way to go.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Your goal is to make $7,777,777 in casino winnings through any means necessary. Closing and reopening the BitLife app when you lose rarely works, but you can try it if you've had success with it before. Being a millionaire (or billionaire) will also help, as putting down this amount in a few goes is much easier than just tossing down a few hundred at a time.

Hook up and have children

The last two tasks require hooking up with seven random characters without catching STIs and having seven children. Both of these require going into Activities, Love, and Hook Up. While you can have children with someone you're married to, you can also do this with seven flings. Having the Golden Pacifier also helps, but it isn't required.

The best way to avoid catching any ailments is to use protection and avoid anyone who "has some craziness down there." Protection will help in most cases, while high health stats will carry you the rest of the way. If you do end up catching something, try again another year until you get with at least seven people.

If you want to knock out two birds with one stone, you can take the risk of using no protection to have children quicker. You're much more likely to catch something, but at least you'll have an easier time racing against your character's natural clock if they have one. How you do this is up to you, but I'd suggest doing one first before the other.

Once you knock out all five tasks, you'll prove you're the luckiest BitLife player out there and receive a mysterious cosmetic prize for your efforts.

  • Gabriel 86
  • Hansen 90
  • Girellli 85
  • Bruno Fernandes 87
  • Benzema 86

For starters, I believe that the new SBC offers good value. Not only can this Tevez excel at the striking role, but he can also play as a second striker. His card stats are ideally built for a ST position, as you get Technical+ and Power Shot+. While the base Pace (90) could be higher, he has 93 Shooting, 90 Dribbling, and 5* Weak Foot/Skills. For less than 350,000 coins worth of fodder, you can't ask for more.

In many ways, this SBC is similar to the Karim Adeyemi FUT Birthday SBC in terms of offered value.
