Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Hestu Screenshots

On October 22, the Japanese Twitter account for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity revealed more character profiles, this time for the King of Hyrule, Hestu, and Kohga. Nintendo, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force has been revealing more and more characters like this through short trailers. The ones so far teased a mysterious ominous-looking character, and another one focused on the Champions.

First off, here's our translation of the profile for the King of Hyrule:

The king of Hyrule Kingdom and Zelda's father. His full name is Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule. He leads his kingdom in the war against the Calamity in order to make the world peaceful again.

Next, we have the profile for Hestu (Pokkurin in Japanese):

Hestu is the musician of Korogu Forest, who loves dancing. He always carries his beloved Maracas, which contain Korogu fruits. His Maracas dancing holds a mysterious power.

In Breath of the Wild, this weird Maracas person can upgrade your inventory space.

Lastly we have the leader of the Yiga Clan, Kohga:

Kohga is the leader of the Yiga Clan. He spends all his time sleeping, leaving the fighting to his subordinates. And yet for some reason all the clan members admire him.

Kohga also appears in Breath of The Wild. Meaning he was over 100 years old in that game.

There you have it, translated profiles for the King, Hestu and Kohga in Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity.

if you've missed it, you can watch some Urbosa gameplay from Treehouse and some Link and Impa gameplay from TGS 2020. More gameplay was also revealed at TGS 2020, with Producer Yousuke Hayashi saying he's really satisfied with the fan reaction.

New Mortal Kombat 11 Gameplay Trailer Shows Off Rambo in Action

Mortal Kombat 11, Rambo

Mortal Kombat 11 developer Netherealm Studios has released a first look at gameplay for Rambo, one of the upcoming DLC characters. You can watch the trailer below.

The trailer shows off the variety of moves Rambo can pull off. For up-close attacks, he can use knives alongside his fists and kicks. For long-range attacks, he has a bow and arrow and grenades to use. Additionally, he can set traps from a distance. We also got a look at his fatality move which is just as gory and awesome as you'd expect from Mortal Kombat. What makes Rambo's inclusion even cooler is Sylvester Stallone even reprises his role as the character.

"For me, getting to work with a legendary actor as he plays one his most iconic roles was a thrilling experience," said Dominic Cianciolo, Netherealm's story and voiceover director on the PlayStation Blog. "As a Voiceover Director, it doesn't get any better. My favorite memory of the session was the sound of Stallone chuckling. As he performed the lines, he noticed the many references we had included, not only from the Rambo films, but also from the rest of his body of work. When you play, listen closely to the banter for references to The Expendables, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man and more. It was a real kick to see that he was so entertained. Hopefully, Rambo fans will have as much fun with the experience as did the man himself."

In addition to Rambo, Rain and Mileena will be added as new characters you can get with the Kombat Pack 2. There will also be an ultimate edition of Mortal Kombat 11 that includes everything released for the game so far, including the Aftermath expansion and Kombat packs. For those that already own the game, you can upgrade to the PS5 and Series X|S versions for free. Additionally, the game hit eight million copies sold since its release last year.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition will release on November 17 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Descent: Legends of the Dark Is Your Next Massive Dungeon-Crawler

Descent Legends of the Dark, Fantasy Flight Games

Board game fans might remember a time before Gloomhaven. Back when dungeon-crawling board like Descent held the crown as one of the best ways to play Dungeons & Dragons in board game form. Of course, games like Gloomhaven came along and stole Descent's lunch with their level of innovation in the space. However, Fantasy Flight Games has a new version of the game that's both absolutely massive and full of fun ideas. Give it a look.

Descent: Legends of the Dark is not just a third edition of the popular classic. Instead, FFG sees it as its own new spin-off in the line. The game is fully cooperative and uses a free companion app to bypass some of the fiddliness the genre brings. And, of course, there are tons of miniatures, terrain tiles, and other components. The game will run you a wallet-busting $175, but you are getting a ton from the box.

I will say that, personally, I don't love the art. The minis look great, but there's something off about the comic book-style character portraits that don't sit well with me. I'm not saying I won't give it a whirl, it's just not my style.

What is up my alley is how the game uses the app to facilitate weapon crafting and upgrading. Being able to modify my character both with his/her loadout and through newly acquired gear sounds awesome. The parallels aren't exact, but it makes me hopeful that this will feel a bit like Diablo the board game.

Descent: Legends of the Dark is set to launch sometime in the second quarter of 2021. It is available for pre-order now at your friendly local game store now.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade of Light Has Been Localized 30 Years After Release

Fire Emblem

I know what you're thinking. You saw the word localize about a Nintendo game and thought "oh, maybe it's finally Mother 3!" Sorry, but that day still hasn't arrived, although it does feel closer than ever now. The first entry in the Fire Emblem franchise, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light has finally been localized for English speaking audiences 30 years after its original 1990 launch.

Continuing its trend of dropping news and new releases out of nowhere, Nintendo announced that Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light would be available on the Switch on December 4. Players can already pre-order this piece of classic software for just $5.99.

Western audiences were first introduced to the game's cast of characters with Super Smash Bros. Melee and its inclusion of Marth and Roy, the former of which continues to be played in the game's competitive scene. Since then, Fire Emblem games have enjoyed success in markets outside of Japan. The latest entry in the franchise, Fire Emblem: Three Houses released to critical acclaim in August 2019.

With its localization, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light will also be receiving some modern quality of life changes. The game will be arriving with save states and a rewind feature that lets players move the game back a set number of turns. Of course, the game will also show players the roots of their favorite features of Fire Emblem titles. The game will come with over 50 playable characters for players to pick from and strategize with. Some select characters can also be approached off the battlefield and chatted up to forge tighter bonds with your compatriots.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light is arriving on the Switch on December 4. Pre-orders for the game are live now and cost just $5.99.

Immortals Fenyx Rising Takes the Best Elements of Breath of the Wild and Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Shakes Them Up

Immortals Fenyx Rising

With the huge roster of games releasing in the next month to coincide with the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/Series S, it's easy to forget that the very end of the year will also have some big games to look forward to. Namely, Immortals Fenyx Rising–the action-adventure title from Ubisoft previously known as Gods & Monsters–is coming at the very beginning of December, and is worth keeping an eye on as one of the bigger releases to cap off 2020.

Ahead of the game's launch this December, DualShockers had the chance to play a preview build of Immortals Fenyx Rising for a closer look at the upcoming Greek mythology-inspired game. With about four and a half hours of hands-on time with the game, our demo featured two different areas from the game's setting in The Golden Isles and the opportunity to get a taste of its combat, puzzles, and exploration.

You can check out our full video preview of Immortals below:

My biggest takeaway from playing through the demo so far is that like its original gameplay reveal highlighted, Immortals takes a lot of inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in both its style and how it plays. However, as someone that wasn't necessarily the biggest fan of Breath of the Wild, Immortals feels like it has enough of its own elements to stand apart and, in some ways, fixes some of the issues that I had with it.

Coming from the team behind Assassin's Creed Odyssey, it's that game's influences that make me feel most at home in Immortals in how it approaches combat and exploration. The demo showed me that while it might not be the deepest experience, there are enough of the elements I liked best from Breath of the Wild and Assassin's Creed Odyssey mixed with its own mechanics that make Immortals seem like my ideal blend of the two.

Immortals Fenyx Rising will release for PS5, Xbox Series X/Series S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, and PC on December 3, 2020. For more on the game, you can also check out our recent hands-on written preview from DualShockers managing editor Logan Moore.

Tom Holland Shares the First Image of Himself as Nathan Drake

uncharted movie

It's no secret that video game movies are usually giant piles of garbage with few exceptions, and if the upcoming Monster Hunter movie turns out to be as bad as the trailer, it seems like that trend is going to stay. However, the new image of Tom Holland as Nathan Drake tell us that even if the Uncharted movie is bad, at least he'll look pretty good.

View this post on Instagram

It's nice to meet you, I'm Nate. #uncharted

A post shared by Tom Holland (@tomholland2013) on

In a post to his official Instagram account, Tom Holland released a photo of himself in full Nathan Drake get up and he actually looks really good. Before seeing these pictures, it was hard to visualize Holland as Drake after seeing him so often as a wide-eyed teenage Spider-man, but now that he's been "grizzled up," it's easy to see him as the suave, smart-aleck treasure hunter we've all come to love.

Today was a big day for Uncharted set photos, as Nathan Drake voice actor Nolan North also posted some to his Instagram. The three photos that North posted show that a lot of care and passion are going into the movie and the pictures of an ancient relic sitting in a tomb and of a history book featuring Sir Francis Drake definitely give off the proper Uncharted vibes.

A lot seems to be going right for the Unchated movie, but that could be said about many video game movie adaptations before they're released. Hopefully, director Ruben Fleischer has figured something out that many game movie directors have not. At the very least, if the movie's bad, we can always all just rewatch the Nathan Fillion fan film for as long as it lives on YouTube.

For more on the Uncharted movie, make sure to check out this article from when Holland said that production is going "so well," or just check out our tag for the film right here.

The Medium Developers Show Off Their Dual Reality System

The Medium Bloober TEam

The Medium is an upcoming horror game from Bloober Team that has you playing as a medium named Marianne who can travel between the real world and the spirit realm. The game comes to PC and Xbox Series X this December and looks like it's shaping up great. One of the coolest features is the ability to play as Marianne in both worlds at the same time. The real world and the spirit realm are both on-screen at once. It sounded a bit trippy when they first explained it. Thankfully,  Bloober Team gave us a better look at the system in action today. Check it out below.

Essentially, The Medium asks you to control Marianne in two places at once. It reminds me a bit of something like Brothers, where you have to keep track of two characters as you move through the environment. However, unlike Brothers, The Medium only asks you to use one joystick. So, instead of each character being mapped to one thumb, you have two characters mapped to different dimensions.

This is going to lead to situations where you're using your powers in one area to open up new possibilities in the other. The video also showed what looked like a dynamic split-screen between the two worlds. Potentially, this means when you need to focus on one realm, that side of the screen will get bigger. From the footage, I can't tell if this happens when the game thinks it should or if you have control. Either way, it's a nifty addition to the system.

The Medium continues to look like another excellent horror game from Bloober Team. They've proven to be masters of the genre, so I'm very excited to play this game when it launches for PC and Xbox Series X on December 10.

Genshin Impact But In Real Life At Huanglong, With Keqing and Qiqi Cosplay

Genshin Impact Real Life Huanglong Valley collab event cosplay 1

In China, miHoYo is currently holding a regional collaboration event for Genshin Impact (PC, PS4, Mobile, soon on Switch, PS5), pretty much showing how the game would look like in real life. The collab event is with Unesco World Heritage Site Huanglong, which is one of the many real life inspirations for the landscapes found in Genshin Impact.

Additional screenshots have been shared as well by the official Chinese Genshin Impact social accounts, most notably with cosplayers hired for the occasion. We have cosplay of Cryo user jiangshi loli Qiqi from Bubu Pharmacy, and Electro user Keqing, the Yuheng of the Liyue Qixing. Both are Liyue characters fitting the landscape perfectly.

Genshin Impact is pretty much a Japanese game and it also shows in its promotional strategy. These kind of promotional event with cultural spots or regions are a regular thing in Japan, with games, anime, or manga. One of the most iconic example is Square Enix and the Romancing SaGa series regularly holding promotional events with Saga Prefecture. The SaGa series is featured on regional Saga festivals such as the Saga International Balloon Fiesta. Some SaGa themed manholes were recently introduced in the region too:

Genshin Impact is currently holding its second limited gacha banner, focusing on Klee. The game also got its first maintenance on October 22, fixing some bugs, though we still don't have key bindings.

Genshin Impact Version 1.1 is expected to launch on November 11 with a new event. Version 1.2 is expected to launch on December 23, and will add another event and the new Dragonspine area. Version 1.3 is scheduled for February 2021. You can read in detail about each update here and here.
