Dr Disrespect Returns to Streaming Today on YouTube, Hype Stream Racks up Over 300,000 Viewers

One of the biggest video game streamers, and one who is no stranger to controversy, has been causing quite the stir online ever since his Twitch channel was mysteriously permanently banned back in June. Taking to YouTube, Guy 'Dr Disrespect' Beahm has returned to the world of streaming with his live stream still taking place now, but he hasn't even shown up yet.

Yesterday, Dr Disrespect teased his return on Instagram and Twitter through a video showing him approaching a window covered in raindrops as he looks out to a cityscape singing a song. The below video generated over 270,000 views on Instagram and 2.8m views on Twitter.

His YouTube live stream started streaming last night and is still going, however, at its peak over 330,000 users had tuned in to watch an animation along with some music. Dr Disrespect himself hasn't even shown up at all yet indicating that this is just to build hype, potentially to get his audience and community prepared. His channel also has a "Join" button allowing fans to subscribe to his channel and make use of some custom emotes and don a loyalty badge next to their username for a monthly fee.

After about an hour, the official Twitter account revealed that he'll be arriving "tomorrow" on August 7. Specifically, at 12pm PT according to a message from the Dr himself sent to the stream chat.

Back in June, Dr Disrespect abruptly stopped streaming one night, and then shortly after his Twitch channel vanished along with confirmation that the Amazon-owned company had permanently banned Twitch's hugely popular streamer who had not long just signed an exclusivity deal. It's still unclear as to the reasoning behind the ban, and due to legal matters being thrown into the works, it looks as if we won't know for a while.

Interestingly enough,  last night Slasher claims that sources told them that both Facebook Gaming and YouTube has not and will not be offered a partnership at this time. However, he's free to go live just like anyone else. So it appears as if companies are keeping their distance for the time being rather than rushing to sign him up with an exclusivity deal of their own, similarly to Pewdiepie.

It'll be interesting to see how many views the stream today racks up considering fans will be going over to watch alongside everyone else who will no doubt be pestering for specifics on the banning situation. My assumption is that he'll ignore any and all comments related to Twitch.

Rare Releases All Stars Soundtrack and Five Songs From Battletoads

For me, Rare is one of my favourite developers of all time, who have created some of my favourite games. The British studio has just turned 35, after forming back in 1985, and has decided to celebrate the milestone with a gift to their fans.

Revealed via a Tweet and subsequent blog post, Rare has just released an awesome 35th-anniversary soundtrack – free for everybody to stream right now. They shared this message:

"Introducing the 35th Anniversary Collection, an album of 35 classic tracks hand-picked from our back catalogue, assembled and uploaded to music streaming services, where instantly recognisable themes from the likes of Banjo-Kazooie and Killer Instinct share the spotlight with deeper cuts from lesser-known gems."

Rare has such a rich catalogue of games they've been able to pull from for this, ranging all the way back to the NES, and the album doesn't disappoint. Alongside the songs from Banjo-Kazooie and Killer Instinct are tracks from games that include Conker's Bad Fur Day, Jet Force Gemini, Viva Pinata and Sea of Thieves.

That's not the only musical treat we got from Rare yesterday either. With the recent announcement that Rare and Dlala Studio's Battletoads is dropping on August 20, the developers have decided to share with us five tracks from the upcoming game.

The Battletoads Soundtrack is composed by BAFTA Nominated David Housden (Thomas Was Alone) and contains some seriously rocking music. The five released tracks, which includes the music from the terrifying Turbo Tunnels, comprises of some "mad-shredding" that definitely fits the '90s cartoon aesthetic they're gunning for. Even if you have no interest in playing the game, I'd seriously recommend just appreciating these songs.

All of the tracks, from both the 35th Anniversary Collection and Battletoads, are available to stream or purchase right now from Spotify, Amazon, YouTube, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal and TikTok.

The Pathless Receives New Gameplay Trailer During State of Play

During PlayStation's State of Play showcase, Annapurna Interactive and developer Giant Squid debuted a new trailer for The Pathless.

The six-minute trailer gives players an overview of what to expect from the game.  One of the key points in the trailer is how fluid the main character moves around. If you shoot talismans, which are floating objects in the world, you'll fill up your dash meter. We also get a look at your eagle companion and how it helps you navigate the world and its dense forests. Additionally, we see how the character's mask helps you scan the environment around you and highlights points on the map.

As for gameplay, the trailer shows off giant spirits that fill the world with darkness. These creatures will try to separate you from your eagle and it's up to you to hide from it. They're also invunerable which makes encounters more intense.

"The Pathless is all about finding your own way forward, so an open world design fit the experience and themes perfectly," said Matt Nava, creative director at Giant Squid via the PlayStation Blog. "We wanted to encourage players to explore organically and develop an understanding of the space as they play, which led us to break convention with most open world games in a few key ways: There's no fast travel, there's no map, and there's no game over."

In addition to The Pathless, we also got a look at Crash Bandicoot: It's About Time, Hitman III, and Bugsnax during State of Play. The Pathless was first announced during the Game Awards in 2018. The last game developer Giant Squid developed was Abzu which released in 2016.

The Pedestrian Makes Its Way to PS4 Next January

Skookum Arts dropped their puzzle game The Pedestrian on PC earlier this year to solid reviews. The game is a great-looking 2.5D puzzle platformer that has you rearranging signs in a city to get through each level. And, around a year after the original release, the game is coming to PS4 in January 2021. Give the State of Play trailer a watch below.

The Pedestrian brings that perfect mix of puzzle and platforming. Obviously, the platforming action is a pretty standard affair. It's not going to completely blow your mind, but it's quality. However, by adding in the ability to move around the signs to solve puzzles adds a new layer of strategy. It might not be up everyone's alley, but if you're into puzzle games, I would definitely give this one a look.

The one potential negative that I've seen in reading about the game is that it might be a little short. That said, I'm always a fan of games that don't overstay their welcomes. Nothing is worse than a game that runs out of new things for you to do and then asks you to do it over and over again for 20 hours. So, I'll take a shorter experience if it's a tight one.

The Pedestrian comes to PS4 in January 2021. If you just can't wait, the game is currently available on PC. No word yet on PS5, but it wouldn't be surprising to see it head to Sony's latest platform at some point next year.

Call of Duty 2020 Reveal Seemingly Planned for Next Week Based on Mysterious Crate

Between launching the massively successful battle royale, Call of Duty: Warzone and not following their standard roadmap for revealing the year's Call of Duty release, the Call of Duty franchise has had an interesting year. Not only has this year's release not been revealed, but the three-year development cycle that alternates between Treyarch, Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward has been broken, with Treyarch rumored to have been moved up and rushed to develop a new Black Ops game for this holiday season. Some promotions featured on bags of Doritos corroborate some of those rumors.

We've seen all sorts and flavors of military shooters throughout the various showcases from this summer's drawn-out E3-Gamescom mashup, but the world's biggest one has been notably absent until today. This afternoon, famed Call of Duty leaker, Charlie Intel (Call of Duty News on Twitter) put up a picture on their Twitter account featuring a nondescript black crate and a letter that reads, "Do not open this crate until August 10 at 12PM ET."

While the crate doesn't specifically mention Call of Duty, considering Activision sent it to Charlie Intel, it's pretty clear that this is about the rumored Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. Aside from the specific date and time, Activision hasn't provided any information about the upcoming reveal. Considering the past few entries in the best-selling FPS franchise have featured different modes and features that haven't been in past entries and others have been lacking hallmarks of the franchise, like a campaign, it will be interesting to see how Activision and Treyarch will fill out the game, especially since this release will likely be cross-gen.

New Temtem Trailer Released, Confirmed for the PlayStation 5

During PlayStation's State of Play showcase, we got a new look at Temtem, an MMO adventure game inspired by the Pokemon series.

The new trailer shows off several environments players can explore in the game, both alone and with other players. We also get a look at how you can customize your character and make them unique. In a report from the PlayStation Blog, game director Guillermo Andrades confirms players can also customize their character's house.

Another major part of the trailer we get a glimpse at is how the turn-based combat works. If you've played any main Pokemon RPG, the battling system should look familiar to you. Your player throws down cards which release your Temtem and from there you can face off against other Temtems. Alongside that, you can battle other players online and explore environments together.

"Battles are focused on 2v2 combat with few random elements in each attack, meaning less guesswork and more strategic thinking is needed through each encounter," said Andrades on the PS Blog. "Instead of a classic point system for moves we use stamina. Each move requires a different amount of stamina based on its power. If you overuse your Temtem's stamina they will take damage for overexertion. This allows for 'all-out' attack moments if you see an opportunity to finish off your opponent."

Temtem was announced back in 2018 and had a successful Kickstarter campaign. The game went into early access back in January. It wasn't the only game to appear during State of Play. Other notable titles include Crash Bandicoot: It's About Time, Hitman III, and Bugsnax.

Temtem launches in 2021 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It's also available in early access on Steam. Hood: Outlaws and Legends Revealed at Today's State of Play

Hood: Outlaws and Legends, Sumo Digital, Focus Home Interactive

Today's State of Play was full of big announcements from some of Sony's 3rd-party partners. Included in the slate was a new game from Sumo Digital and Focus Home Interactive called Hood: Outlaws and Legends. While details are still relatively scarce, the reveal trailer showed off some of the game in action. In this early look, the game looks like it could be quite fun if you have a consistent group to play with. Give it a watch below.

Hood: Outlaws and Legends is described as a "gritty reimaging of the Robin Hood legend." The game sees two teams of four pitted up against each other in a race to commit a gigantic heist. Not only do you have to compete with the rival gang, but you'll also find yourself coming up against AI guards.

Again, we don't know a ton about the game. However, in a write up on the PlayStation Blog, the team talked about there being several different characters for players to inhabit. So, careful planning of who and how you're going to steal that treasure is important.

Of course, without more substantive gameplay to go off of, it's hard to know exactly what Hood is going to be. That said, this early trailer definitely has me intrigued to know more. This is, of course, purely speculation, but given that Sumo is based in the UK, I wouldn't be surprised to hear more during Gamescom Online later this month.

Hood: Outlaws and Legends is set to launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X at some point in 2021.

Godfall Sure is a Video Game That's Releasing on PS5

To wrap up today's State of Play live stream, Sony decided to show off an extended look at Counterplay Games' upcoming PS5 title Godfall and in the process proved that sometimes, less is indeed more.

Lasting nearly ten minutes, the Godfall portion of this edition of State of Play was far and away the biggest focus of the show. In the process, we got to finally get a really extensive look at the "looter-slasher" and what it will allow players to do. The video focused on the various weapons you'll have at your disposal, some of the different abilities you can utilize, and gave a general rundown of how loot will work. The trailer then wrapped up by showing off a look at one of the game's bosses.

The only problem with what was on display is that, man, Godfall just continues to look really boring. Even as someone who loves titles that Godfall is seemingly trying to bring together in an unholy marriage (Dark SoulsDestiny, etc.), the combat itself seems to lack any sort of major punch. Rather than doing anything wholly unique, the game just seems to be trying to capitalize on a variety of different popular subgenres all at once. It has the feeling of being a jack of all trades, master of none.

Crash Bandicoot 4 Gets a New Gameplay Trailer with Crash, Coco, and Yes…Dingodile

Coming off the release of the N. Sane Trilogy, Crash Bandicoot made his long-awaited return for a new generation with its remastered take on the series' first three games. Given the love that many had for the original Crash games, it was only a matter of time before we would end up seeing the bandicoot come back in a brand new game, and it's about time with the upcoming release of Crash Bandicoot 4 later this year.

During the latest State of Play presentation from Sony, a new gameplay trailer for Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time kicked off the showcase to give us a closer look at the upcoming Crash revival. Picking up where the original PSone trilogy of games left off, Crash Bandicoot 4 will return to the classic platforming style of the previous games with the visuals of the N. Sane Trilogy, along with a bunch of new features.

The gameplay trailer detailed that alongside playing as the bandicoot himself, players will also have the opportunity to take control of several of the series' other characters like Coco and Dr. Neo Cortex. The new trailer also revealed that Dingodile, who first made his appearance in Crash Bandicoot: Warped as a boss, will also be a playable character and can swing his massive tail around a level. Players will also be able to unlock a variety of different skins and looks for each character as they progress throughout the game.

Along with the new look at its gameplay and characters, the latest trailer for Crash 4 also shared some other features coming to the game for players that want a bit more of a challenge. Specifically, the game will feature "N. verted" stages that will entice players to replay levels with new effects. Aside from mirroring each level, the "N. verted" stages will offer new visual filters or features to increase the challenge, such as an old-fashioned film feature that makes the levels slightly faster, among others.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time will release for PS4 and Xbox One on October 2, 2020.

Alan Wake Makes His Return in the Next DLC for Control Later this Month

The next piece of add-on content for Remedy's Control, which is titled AWE, has been known of for awhile, but now, we finally know when to expect the forthcoming expansion.

As part of today's State of Play stream, Remedy let loose a new trailer for Control: AWE which finally sees the return of Alan Wake. Yes, Remedy's latest IP is crossing over with one of the developer's most beloved in this new episode. This crossover was teased last year when the post-launch roadmap for Control was detailed, but specifics of the collab weren't really provided.

The base game of Control features a variety of different references to Wake himself, which seemed to confirm that the two games existed in the same universe. While it's not really known how Wake might tie into Jesse Faden's story, the add-on itself will be taking place after the events of The Foundation, which was the first piece of post-launch story content that released earlier in 2020.

As for when the DLC itself is arriving, it'll be coming later this month on August 27 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
