No matter who it is, from Goro to General Grievous, you just can't trust a guy with more than two arms. The creep factor is part of it, but I think you just learn fast that while two of those arms are fine, the most devastating attack always comes, from the other two arms you didn't even know were there.

Super realistic FPS from original Ghost Recon dev gets transformative new update

At some level, you expect FPS games to be fast and fluid. Doom The Dark Ages is the best and most recent example, but you can look as far back as the original Doom, the first Half-Life, and the first Quake, and see that the history of shooters is rooted in running and gunning. Rainbow Six, when it was originally released back in 1998, felt like something profoundly different. Slow, methodical, and punishing, in the classic Rainbow Six games, every enemy can kill you, and every closed door and corridor feels like a boss fight. From one of its creators, whose credits also include the first Ghost Recon, Ground Branch is a deeply realistic tactical shooter, and it's just been overhauled and expanded.

Light No Fire release date estimate, trailers, and latest news

When is the Light No Fire release date? The survival sandbox game was announced at The Game Awards in 2023, and it immediately caught our attention thanks to its Valheim vibes and colorful fantasy world. Developer Hello Games has been working on No Man's Sky for over a decade, so it was a welcome surprise to see co-founder Sean Murray join Geoff Keighley on stage to reveal the studio's next ambitious title.

Like Valheim, Light No Fire is an exploration and building game set in an open world featuring a variety of procedurally generated biomes, enemies, and resources. Murray outlines the team's goal to create "a planet that is as varied as a universe" - and from the gameplay trailers we've seen thus far, the scale of its mountains and seas is no less vast than No Man's Sky. Murray touts the adventure game as "the first real open world" game, so let's dig into everything we know about the Light No Fire release date estimate, gameplay, and more.

Geekom A6 review - a premium mini PC for gaming that costs just $499

The last couple of years have shown that owning a genuinely compact mini gaming PC is no longer just a pipe dream. The Geekom A6 is the perfect example, hiding a decent set of specs inside its tiny aluminum chassis, all for a surprisingly affordable price.

One of the areas I really appreciate about the Geekom products I've reviewed is the build quality, and despite the budget-level price, this Geekom A6 mini PC looks and feels like a premium product. The eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 6800H CPU and 32GB of DDR5 RAM offer plenty of power for day-to-day office work, leaving the integrated AMD Radeon 680M GPU ready for 1080p gaming sessions, at least in most modern games, even if it can't really compete with the best gaming PCs out there.

It's important to recognize what you're getting with a device such as this one. These are reasonable laptop-grade specs in a mini PC that costs just $499 – as my earlier Geekom AX8 Pro review shows, a top spec can cost you hundreds of dollars more. Is this mini PC really capable of handling the demands of modern gaming? To find that out, I put the Geekom AX8 Pro to the test over several days to see how it performed as a work and gaming PC.

Doom Eternal, Mick Gordon, and the videogame composers raising hell

May 16, 2025: This story was originally published on February 6, 2021. With Doom: The Dark Ages out now, we thought we'd reshare it.

Gaming's obsession with the devil's domain goes back decades. Burning pits, endless torture, and towering structures of gore and primordial ooze are all par for the course whenever a videogame hero visits hell's chthonic recesses. Doom Eternal, Hades, and BPM: Bullets Per Minute all transported us to their own interpretations of hell in 2020. But while the underworld's aesthetic is already pretty clearly defined in games, capturing its harshness and brutality through music presents a whole other suite of challenges. Composer Mick Gordon learned this back in 2014, when he was tasked with re-envisioning hell's soundscape for Bethesda's Doom reboot.

"The thing that I found really fascinating with Doom was this idea of why [the UAC] were going to hell," Gordon explains. "It was this idea that there was this Argent energy source that you could find there. Somehow, they had opened up a portal to hell and went 'hey, there's all this energy everywhere and maybe we can harness it.'" The technology that results from this effort in Doom 2016 pays homage to the infernal-industrial aesthetic that's distinguished Doom's vision of hell ever since its launch in 1993. And so in music: it's that industrial edge that inspired Gordon to stay respectful of the sound that had come before, while experimenting with weightier, electronic tones.

Next-gen AMD Ryzen CPUs will reportedly have a "3D core" and it looks amazing

AMD is reportedly planning to introduce a new "3D core" to its CPU structure, according to a new leak about the forthcoming AMD Zen 7 architecture. What's more, we're apparently not just talking about a massive pool of extra cache here, as seen on recent chips such as the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, but a layer of multiple cache slices sitting directly below an enormous number of CPU cores, in a structure that could become a standard part of the architecture.

Given that we've yet to see even AMD Zen 6 CPUs, let alone Zen 7, it's going to be a long time before we see this tech being used in the best gaming CPU designs. The leak says Zen 7 is expected to launch either in late 2027 or early 2028, so it's at least two and a half years away, but I'm really intrigued about how this new AMD tech could work.

What is the best level to find Minecraft diamonds in 1.21? In order to find the rarest of materials in Minecraft, you'll have to dig a little deeper. After the height change in the Caves and Cliffs update, the point where you can start seeing diamonds is lower than before, but it's worth it when you strut into battle donning your sparkling war attire.

While Minecraft Netherite is now the most valuable and durable material to craft your tools and armor, it's scarce, and must be upgraded from the diamond kit. That means your best bet in the survival game is still a full diamond setup. Finding these precious blue minerals in Minecraft is still challenging, and they can only be found deep underground, so we've got the exact levels to find Minecraft diamonds in 1.21 below, as well as the best level to mine for them.

Metropolis 1998 feels like the return of classic SimCity, and you can try it now

I maintain that city builders, as a genre, are some of the best-looking games on PC. Manor Lords leaps off the screen. Cities Skylines 2 (for its various shortcomings) provides some fantastic vistas. When you look at a completed map in SimCity 3000, it's like a circuitboard, intricate and elegant at the same time. It's the symmetry and the density. Rollercoaster Tycoon has it, too, with all those colorful sprites pushed together - all that microscopic life. Created by a single developer, under the label Yesbox Studios, Metropolis 1998 is one of the most beautiful city-building games on Steam. I'm about to get that book thrown at me. When I sit at my desk at the end of a shift in cop sim The Precinct, I will get a chunk of XP deducted from my earnings for detaining this dude for a minor infraction. When The Precinct's action ramps up and it transforms into a top-down blaster, it becomes ponderous and clunky, but its quieter moments of police pretending encourage a strict dedication to the role of petty rules enforcer. It's a game of quibbles and quirks, imperfect in many ways, but there's a sense of commitment underneath it all that I can respect. Even if I don't respect the badge itself.

The official site updated to share a reveal for May 21, 2025. It also mentioned that is when it will be announced in Japan, which means we may learn about it on May 20, 2025 in the US.

While new Tamagotchi Paradise information isn't available yet, an update on the virtual pet did appear on the site alongside this reveal. Previously, that comic teasing the new unit only appeared physically for those who took part in Comic Book Day 2025. Now the full comic is available online. Going to the official site allows someone to read about Tamagotchi Planet, and how environments and food influence their evolutionary process. It also offered a clearer look at the three new characters Meowtchi, Irukatchi, and Horohotchi. The comic also showed this design will feature a crank that allows someone to zoom in and out on a planet.

Though this new Tamagotchi model is still a mystery, we did recently see some other announcements. Bandai Namco brought the Tamagotchi Connection device back. There is also a Snoopy Tamagotchi Nano model showing up this year in Japan.

We'll learn more about the new Tamagotchi Paradise model in Japan on May 21, 2025.

New Sanrio Mobile Game Is Hello Kitty Friends Match

Line Games just released a new Sanrio mobile game called Hello Kitty Friends Match on Google Play and the App Store. As the title suggests, it is a free-to-play, match-3 game. In addition to major characters like Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, and Cinnamoroll showing up in the initial images, it also seems like some of the less visible characters like Corocorokuririn the hamster will also appear in it.

The idea in Hello Kitty Friends Match is that the Sanrio characters find themselves in Dreamland. However, it isn't what it used to be, and a village they come to is completely dark and decimated. Players can then go through match-3 puzzles to help restore it. As they do, they can also get different types of costumes to dress up characters.

Here's the first trailer for the game that helps to set up the experience. The initial image shows that in addition to Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, Cinnamoroll, and Corocorokuririn, we will also see Badtz Maru, My Melody, Kuromi, Pochacco, Keroppi, and Tuxedosam. Only these ten characters are confirmed at launch, and it's unknown if or how many more could appear.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KAy4eJAbTQ&ab_channel=%E3%82%B5%E3%83%B3%E3%83%AA%E3%82%AA

There is a launch promotion going on. One of the most notable releases as part of it is a Cupid costume players can put on Hello Kitty. There are supposedly around 100 outfits at launch to earn.

Hello Kitty Friends Match is available on mobile devices. The other major Sanrio game out now is Hello Kitty Island Adventure, which is on the Switch, PC, and mobile devices with new ports headed to the PS4 and PS5 in 2025.

Ayaneo Teases New FLIP 1S DS Model Based on Nintendo DS

Back in 2024, Ayaneo released Ayaneo FLIP KB and DS models of handheld PCs designed to resemble the Nintendo DS and 3DS line of handhelds, and now it confirmed a FLIP 1S DS is in development. While it confirmed a new one is on the way, only a teaser appeared on social media so far. This comes after it confirmed the "ongoing development of the FLIP product line" on Indiegogo

The initial teaser for the Ayaneo FLIP 1S DS doesn't show how this new take on handheld gaming PC inspired by the Nintendo handheld's design will look just yet. It only confirmed that it will involve an entirely new design. So it will not only involve upgraded specs compared to the original Windows device and again involve dual screens, but it will look different from the original KB and DS designs.

Here's the initial infographic Ayaneo shared online.

As a reminder, the original models involved the KB, which had a screen on the top and keyboard on the bottom, and DS, which featured screens on the top and bottom. Both involved a clamshell design, so when not in use someone could close it to protect the screens. At the official site, the base 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD DS model starts at $1,139. The base 16GB RAM and 512GB KB model starts at $839.

The Ayaneo FLIP 1S DS is in development, though we don't know if it will resemble the Nintendo DS as closely as the original release did.

ARMS and Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Among Switch 2 Free Updates

Nintendo talked a bit about the Switch 2 update options for existing Switch games after it announced the system, and now it shared more detailed information about the free patches for games like ARMS and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. All of the initially announced ones will be available on June 5, 2025, the same day the new console debuts.

The extent of the upgrades varies for each title. In the case of ARMS, the Switch 2 free update will be a bit more extensive. Nintendo noted there will be graphical optimizations and an improved frame rate. It also noted that if the system is docked with a supported TV, it will also display in HDR.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will let up to two people play every course via GameChat locally or online, in addition to new visual upgrades and HDR support. Four people can play Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics together, with GameChat local and online sharing supported. Both Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury will look better and have HDR support, GameShare multiplayer support is included as well as via GameChat, with two being able to work together in the former and four in the latter.

World of Warships - Azur Lane crossover content wave 7

Wargaming has revealed that it will add even more Azur Lane crossover content to World of Warships. This will be the seventh time the company has added crossover content from the closely related game. It has regularly made crossovers almost every year, starting from 2018, with the preceding sixth wave having appeared in 2024.

The new Wave 7 will add the following shipgirls as commanders, whom players can assign to any playable ship:

  1. KMS Hindenburg
  2. USS Kearsarge
  3. RN Gorizia
  4. KMS Admiral Graf Spee
  5. KMS Scharnhorst

In addition, Wargaming will add new premium ships based on the Azur Lane versions of KMS Hindenburg, USS Kearsarge, and RN Gorizia—as well as KMS Bismarck, whose character had appeared earlier in Wave 4.

As a side note, Hindenburg and Kearsarge are getting double-imported back to World of Warships. Manjuu and Yongshi had previously created Azur Lane shipgirl versions of the original ships Wargaming created for World of Warships. The first character to be double-imported was HMS Neptune in Wave 2.

Wargaming has also published a trailer showing the new content on YouTube:

https://youtu.be/nDX1uPh_3Ro

In the same press release, Wargaming also revealed the new Azur Lane content coming to the console and mobile releases of World of Warships: Legends. People who play the latter version will be able to get unique ships based on the Azur Lane versions of BB-45 USS Colorado, RN Zara, KMS Scharnhorst, and KMS Admiral Graf Spee.

The original World of Warships is available for PC. World of Warships: Legends is available separately on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, iOS, and Android.

Pokemon TCG best Destined Rivals cards

The Pokemon Trading Card Game expansion Destined Rivals launches later in May 2025. Here's our overview of the set, so you know what to expect, and our picks for the best cards based on a varying criteria.

The coolest Pokemon Trading Card Game Destined Rivals cards

Is it weird to just say aesthetics? The Illustration Rare cards featuring trainers with their star partners are inherently compelling. Even other special partner cards look good. Heck, we're big fans of the Elite Trainer Box with its flat black-and-red design and would have loved card treatments to match.

But even outside of looks, there are fundamentally cool cards in here. Lots are built around the Team Rocket faction, with underhanded tactics and their signature creatures. Thankfully, this time it isn't relying upon indicating creatures are "mistreated" by giving them low HP and making them nearly useless? You still see some bad sportsmanship, though. Spidops likes to gang up on you. Houndoom burns and confuses simultaneously. Ampharos punishes opponents' evolution with damage counters. Hypno mind-controls the opposing bench to swipe at its active pal. That's not mentioning the dark faction's, uh, Darkness Pokemon? Nidoking poisons for eight times the usual amount. Arbok has an ability to stop other abilities from entering play and swings its tail for a bunch of splash damage. There's Muk, Crobat, Weezing, Sneasel… truly a lot to choose from here.

pokemon tcg destined rivals best cards team rocket

There's also a dedicated Team Rocket Energy card, providing two Darkness or Psychic energy. With it, the super-strong Mewtwo ex can hit hard! The downside: you have to get at least three Rocket cards on the bench before it can hit at all. Even some out-of-type options use it well, like Moltres ex, which is happy to use it to fuel its normal attack, but can also Thanos-snap its foe to the discard pile with one.

There are 11 Team Rocket Trainer cards in the set, most with effects that you're used to, but slightly better with the faction restriction. The Stadium lets you draw two cards a turn, offering the foe nothing unless it's a mirror match. Its Great Ball always catches something, but evolution or basic is a coin flip. Its dedicated Transceiver lets you choose which one of these you want from your deck. Our favorite combo, though? That's Team Rocket's Wobbuffet and Orbeetle. Orbeetle lets you move around damage counters at will, while Wobbuffet's attack transfers counters from one bench creature to the opponent.

The most interesting Pokemon TCG Destined Rivals cards

The set's focus on trainer's Pokemon means that each essentially gets its own theme deck, cards designed to work together for a particular strategy. The Team Rocket collection is larger, and we hope that it might get more support in the future. But the rest? This is probably what we're getting.

Gold and Silver protagonist Ethan and recent companion Arven might be the headliners. Arven has a Mabosstiff, a Toedscruel and a Greedent, with no particular energy required and a dedicated sandwich item for efficient healing. It's flexible, but may need an external centerpiece. Ethan's party would only look nostalgic if you accidentally caught and used a ton of Fire types, with only a Pinsir and Sudowoodo with colorless attack options. He gets a dedicated Trainer to search for Pokemon and energy, and his Typhlosion's attack needs you to have adventured as much as possible (into the discard pile) to really hit. His Ho-Oh is the star, speeding up your energy ramp and managing a decent attack in a pinch.

pokemon trading card game destined rivals trainer's

Gym leaders Misty and Marnie join as well. Misty stays within her Water type and is the only one to not get a dedicated Trainer card to assist, so there's not a lot her Lapras and Gyarados can do to get your attention. The art's fun, at least? Marnie similarly sticks to the darkness, running the Grimmsnarl, Scrafty, Liepard and Morpeko lines. They're not fancy, but they're built to quickly attack and get a lot of energy cards attached, so we could see someone making good use of them.

Hoenn champion Steven and Sinnoh champion Cynthia round out the selection. Cynthia's all about getting her Garchomp out and dealing a ton of damage while refilling your hand in the process. Her other Pokemon are essentially unplayable and don't have a lot of synergy, but that Garchomp might be good enough to play anyway. Steven's works a bit better, with a dedicated defense boost from Carbink, stadium card Granite Cave and an energy acceleration sweeper in his Metagross ex.

The most meta-relevant Pokemon TCG Destined Rivals cards

Because of the trainer's connection, a lot of cards in this set don't work universally. But hey, some do? Team Rocket's Petrel is a functional reprint of Skyla, a popular Supporter card that lets you search for any Trainer card you want. That'll be welcome for a lot of decks, no matter the strategy. The new Shaymin shields much of your bench from your opponent's attack damage, but that would need to be a counter to a particular strategy to become competitive. There's a new Rapidash with card draw, but a Stage 1 is a hard sell as a utility. Finally, Yanmega ex loads itself up with energy to attack when it swaps in, but then has to ship that energy to a benched creature. It could deal the final blow, or it could set up another fighter really quickly.

Are these useful? Are these cute? You tell me.

The cutest Destined Rivals cards

It's tougher to find these in this set! After all, so much of the cards are Pokemon at work, either as elite fighters for champions or prisoners of an evil gang. But they're here if you look! Growlithe is sticking out its tongue in the woods. It's hard to tell what Cetoddle and Breloom are up to, but they're certainly having a good time. Even Misty's Psyduck is having a rare no-migraine day and loving a lounge by the pool.

Padme grabbing a lightsaber from AI Darth Vader's Training Rift Gate in Fortnite

I've always thought of Fortnite as such an impressive achievement, especially when it comes to live events, brand collabs, and delivering on the "metaverse" idea. But the game's latest chapter is a mess.

In case you missed it, Darth Vader has joined Fortnite's Star Wars-themed season today as a boss on the battle royale map. He can be recruited to join your team, which is cool—but then things get really, really weird and kind of uncomfortable.

AI Darth Vader in Fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

This version of Darth Vader uses "conversational AI" and will talk to the player, responding to prompts via voice chat, and it's all using the voice likeness of the legendary James Earl Jones, with permission from his family.

"James Earl felt that the voice of Darth Vader was inseparable from the story of Star Wars, and he always wanted fans of all ages to continue to experience it," Jones' family said in a statement. "We hope that this collaboration with Fortnite will allow both longtime fans of Darth Vader and newer generations to share in the enjoyment of this iconic character."

I respect the family's wishes and, while part of me can see how cool it is to have him live on in this form, it's also disturbing and a bit dystopian. The actor is no longer with us, but his voice is used to discuss Fortnite happenings ("the Sith Lord has opinions," says Epic Games).

And of course, it didn't take players long to abuse and try to break the new toy by trying to get it to say inappropriate things. One video that quickly made the rounds not long after AI Vader went live showed him cursing atstreamer Loserfruit. Fortnite said it "pushed a hotfix immediately and this shouldn't happen again," but rest assured, players will spend the following days trying their best to make the Sith Lord say all kinds of things.

Another video making the rounds this afternoon shows a group of young-sounding gamers squeaking with glee as they somehow get Vader to say the F slur, which was likely the goal all along. And this is why we can't have "nice things," gamers.

Another gamer asked Darth Vader what his thoughts were on Pride Month, and Vader responded by calling it a "fleeting celebration of identity," and told the player to "continue to cling to your delusions."

As is usually the case, talking to Darth Vader sounds cool, but in practice, it's always going to be taken advantage of and made more uncomfortable than anything. And I can't shake the uneasy feeling of having a deceased actor talk to me, as the advancements in AI (like Google's Gemini 2.0 Flash model and ElevenLabs' Flash v2.5 model, which power AI Vader) are blurring the lines more and more each day.

https://twitter.com/ImCordial/status/1923354018375491805

There are safeguards, thankfully. Epic says that "players under 13 or their country's age of digital consent, whichever is higher, will need permission to talk with Darth Vader," and that "player voice audio and transcriptions" are not stored. It also says it's not using any player interactions to train AI models, which is nice.

Look, I get it. At its core, the idea of having a child playing Fortnite be able to talk to Darth Vader and experience something that exciting and surreal is cool. But it's never going to end at just that. And although AI is powerful and getting stronger each day, it's still unstable and will lead to issues like the ones above.

I wonder what the offices of Disney and Lucasfilm are like today as they see the clips of the iconic character and late actor dropping F-bombs online. But without even getting into the legal or ethical repercussions, the whole thing just does not sit right with me, and it feels like a genuinely terrible idea.

Fishing in Palia

The Elderwood expansion in Palia has introduced a new set of quests for the players to complete, and the Parental Dispute mission can be tricky to solve.

For starters, the mission triggers in a completely random fashion. Hence, you should look to complete the main quests part of the Elderwood expansion if you're looking to complete Parental Dispute.

This guide will provide you with all the details about the quest and how to complete it.

Palia Parental Dispute quest walkthrough

If you're lucky, the Parental Dispute quest will trigger automatically once you clear the first few quests that are exclusive to the Elderwood expansion. If you're new to the game, it will take you a fair bit of time to unlock the contents of the new expansion.

Einar in Palia

The quest begins when you interact with Einar, who will inform you that he is upset with Hekla for a difference of opinion. The bone of contention is how the two want to raise the offspring of his companion, and you'll be tasked with catching a fish.

Hekla location in Elderwood

Before you can catch the fish, you'll have to go and speak with Hekla, who will explain you why Einar is wrong. After listening to Hekla, get back to Einar at the Fisherman's Lagoon. He will then tell you more about how he would want to raise the child, and ask for your suggestions.

Your fish choices will be determined by the skills you picked while conversing with Einar.

  • Get an Angelfish if you picked Emotional Intelligence (Blue Water symbol).
  • Get a Devilfish if you picked Sports (Brown Earth symbol).
  • Get a Midnight Floatfish if you picked The Fandango (Yellow Air symbol).
  • Get an Eleroo Eel if you picked Survival Skills (Green Earth symbol).

All four fish can be found in the Elderwood region, but you'll want to use advantageous setups while fishing for them.

Fish Location Preferable Bait
Angelfish Red Blossom Cave by Lilac Cavern is the best location Glow Worm (Try in the morning or daytime)
Devilfish Any water body in the Elderwood region Any worm will work (Try in the morning for extra luck)
Midnight Floatfish Try the bays near Vieuxport Sea Any worm will work (Try in the night for extra luck)
Eleroo Eel Same location as the Midnight Floatfish Glow Worm (Don't try at evening or night so that it doesn't clash with chances of getting a Midnight Floatfish)

Your task will be determined by your earlier choice while speaking with Einar. Unless you catch the correct fish, your quest will remain unresolved. Completing it will reward you with a Gil 522 that can be placed at your base.

Precinct ACPD station

After completing The Precinct's tutorial and getting your first character level, you'll gain upgrade points to improve your capabilities in various ways. You can use these to increase your max health, raise your ammo capacity, or even learn how to steal cars.

With so many upgrade options, figuring out which to unlock first can be tough. Let's dive into some of The Precinct's best upgrades so you can start on the right foot and make your playthrough easier.

How to spend Upgrade Tokens in The Precinct

Once you complete The Precinct's tutorial and obtain your first upgrade point, you can spend it by pressing U on keyboard, the View Button on Xbox controller, or the Touchpad on PlayStation. If you're on console, these buttons will initially bring you to your map, letting you scroll through your menu options until you reach Upgrades.

In the Upgrades menu, you'll find four skill trees—Physical, Combat, Policing, and Vehicle. Let's check out each one and our recommendations for which to invest skill points into.

Best upgrades in The Precinct

Overall, the best upgrades to focus in The Precinct is the Physical skill tree. In particular, you'll want to grab the following upgrades first:

  • Max Health +
  • Timed Breath
  • Max Stamina +
  • Fast Recovery
  • Max Health +

Physical skill tree

These upgrades increase your maximum health, stamina, and recovery for both stats, making it easier to stay alive and chase down criminals throughout your playthrough. They'll also make the main storyline much easier. Since you're often on your feet and occasionally face criminals with guns and other lethal weapons, improving your survivability will make your entire campaign significantly easier.

The Precinct upgrades menu
Screenshot by Destructoid

However, I've left Bullseye out of this list since it isn't particularly helpful unless you often miss the Timed Breath prompt. You won't need Bullseye's slowing ability if you consistently hit the button prompt without missing. If you struggle with this minigame, though, you're safe to pick this up early on to help you regain stamina much more easily.

Other useful skills

Once you unlock a few skills from the Physical tree, you'll want to prioritize the following secondary upgrades:

  • Ammo Belt
  • Max Support Tokens +
  • Intimidating Order

Ammo Belt is another important upgrade that'll increase your ammo capacity with all weapon types by 50 percent. Unless you have top-tier aim with your weapons, you'll often run out of ammo during main story mission fights, forcing you to retreat to a supply crate and risk getting gunned down by enemies. Increasing your capacity will help reduce how often you do this, making it much easier to stay alive. You can even take things a step further and progress further into the Combat skill tree to unlock the second Ammo Belt upgrade if you wish.

Max Support Tokens aren't the most useful upgrades initially, so you'll want to wait until later to unlock them. Nonetheless, if you're in the middle of a chase and want to pull off an officer and cruiser backup simultaneously or save up for a Riot Van later on, having these extra tokens will help.

More importantly, though, they lead into Intimidating Order, increasing your Call Out radius and effectiveness to make it easier for your character to pacify criminals while chasing them. While you can safely skip this if you avoid using Call Outs, having it as an option during encounters with several NPCs can save your life and make arrests in The Precinct much easier overall.

Lastly, if you want to 100 percent The Precinct, you'll also need Reinforced Glass and Commandeer. Reinforced Glass by itself isn't super handy unless you frequently use cars as barriers in gunfights. Commandeer, however, is crucial for the We'll Pay for the Damage achievement of commandeering every vehicle type. Without this upgrade, you won't be able to unlock this trophy, preventing you from reaching 100 percent progress. Otherwise, if you're just trying to complete the main story, you can leave these for the mid to late game.

A helicopter in The Precinct

There are many ways to increase XP and rank up in The Precinct, and an easy process is to make your shifts longer and last for a longer time.

Once you've cleared a significant amount of gameplay after starting the game, you'll be able to set your custom shifts. A custom shift will allow you to determine the terms according to your own volition. The greater the freedom, the more you can rank up further, so let's take a look at the overall process.

How to make your shifts longer in The Precinct

The first task is to reach the rank of Police Officer 1. This will take a fair bit of time if you're just getting started and still at the Rookie rank. Leveling up can be pretty easy if you're following some simple tips, and doing so will have extra rewards like access to more ACPD vehicles.

Once the custom shift is available, you'll have the option to fine-tune the details. This will happen daily at the start of a fresh day, and the options will appear at the bottom right corner of your screen.

Here's all the elements of your shift that you can customize.

  • Type: Choose how you want to conduct a patrol.
  • Variant: The nature of the patrol.
  • Location: Pick a location of your choice.
  • Start time: Decide when the shift begins.
  • Duration: Decide the duration of the shift.

To gain the most amount of XP throughout a single patrol, you'll want to set the duration for 24 hours. This will allow you to patrol for a longer time, arrest more suspects if that's applicable, and gain more experience points in the process.

XP from shifts in The Precinct
Screenshot via Kwalee

Are custom shifts worth it in The Precinct?

If you've just started to play the game, you should stay away from custom shifts. Custom shifts are highly beneficial as they allow you to gain more XP. However, you should avoid them when you're still completing different milestones.

Once you use a custom shift, it will automatically disable any milestone associated with random shifts. Hence, it's better to rely on the random shifts till you can complete all the milestones, and then switch over to custom shifts. That way, you can get more XP while completing all the available milestones, and hit two birds with the same stone.

Three operators look out of a plane for the Warzone Verdansk return drop in

If you've been playing Call of Duty: Warzone lately and found an item called a Red Access Card or Blue Access Card, it's hard to blame you for being confused.

The game doesn't explain what these items are used for. But once acquired, these cards can be used to obtain high-quality loot, so they're worth figuring out and locating to equip yourself for victory. This is a throwback to the original Verdansk map back in 2020, and they're back now with several ways to enter them.

We've got you covered with all the info you need below on Blue Access Cards, Red Access Cards, and all of Verdansk's bunker locations and how to get into them.

Warzone Verdansk bunker locations and codes

Warzone Verdansk 2025 bunker locations
Image via Activision | Remix by Destructoid

Each of the bunkers found around Verdansk have a number printed on the outside of their main door that you enter into them from. The above map shows all of the bunker locations, which number they are, and we've color coded them to explain how to open them.

Once you've got a Red Access Card or Blue Access Card, you can use it to enter specific bunkers around the map. Some bunkers take a red card, while others take a blue, and others need specific codes to enter in on a number pad to get inside.

Once in-game, it's great to know where these bunkers can be found when you have a Red Access Card or Blue Access Card, or to have a code on-hand to enter other bunkers that need a code to get in so you can get inside for some good, free, high tier loot to set you on your way as you chase down victories in BR.

The red numbered bunkers use a Red Access Card, the blue numbers use a Blue Access Card, and the yellow numbers need codes to open. The final bunker, bunker 11, requires an Easter Egg-like quest to unlock, but they all have the same randomized loot within.

Warzone Blue Access Card bunkers in Verdansk

Bunkers 2, 7, and 8 in Verdansk can be opened with Blue Access Cards.

Bunker 2 is found west of Storage Town, while Bunker 7 and 8 is east of TV Station.

Warzone Red Access Card bunkers in Verdansk

Bunkers 4, 5, 6 and 9 in Verdansk can be opened with Red Access Cards.

Bunker 4 is near Dam, Bunker 5 is near Military Base, Bunker 6 is close to Quarry at the edge of the map, and Bunker 9 is slightly northeast of Prison.

The bunker codes have changed in Warzone since the return of Verdansk in BO6. Here's what the updated bunker codes are as of season three of BO6:

  • Bunker 0: Currently unknown
  • Bunker 1: 04222021
  • Bunker 3: 30198805
  • Bunker 10: 31547206

Use these codes and keep them handy whenever you find yourself in the area of one of them.

How to add friends in Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. has been one of the most popular gaming franchises in all time, but attempts of like-minded players to find their special other in the community have met an unfortunate end.

In an ideal world, SmashTogether could have been an amazing place for like-minded Smash Bros. It would have been the perfect application for the community to come, mix, and match over something they love: Smash Bros. Unfortunately for fans, the app has met a sad ending even before its journey could begin.

Smas Bros. dating app shuts down even before its journey began

SmashTogether was supposed to start its open beta on May 15, which would have been the first time it would have been available for the public. The app's X handle even put out a tweet celebrating the occasion and listed what users had to do to gain access.

Unfortunately, the app is never going to be available en mass, as it has been hit by a cease-and-desist notice ahead of its launch. The news was announced on the app's X account as well.

The source of the cease-and-desist remains unclear as of writing, but my guess will be on Nintendo. After all, it's the oneswho owns the complete IP of Smash Bros. It appears there have been enough in the app that would count for break of patent law and copyright infringement.

For example, the app had images of characters from the Smash Bros., which is a valid ground of copyright infringement. It also featured adages and prompts that are found in dating apps, but with twists to match the overall theme of Smash Bros.

In a parallel universe, the app might have helped Smash Bros. players to find their soulmates, both for inside and outside the game's universe. As of writing, the developers haven't announced any alternate plans, or if the SmashTogether app will be revived in the alternate future.

If they're trying to stick to the theme, maybe going for a non-Nintendo game will be a safer choice for sure.

Marathon Runner sprinting through an industrial area

As if the conversation surrounding Bungie's Marathon wasn't lukewarm enough, the latest chapter in the Destiny maker's upcoming extraction shooter saga has gotten uglier than ever.

Yesterday, an artist by the name of ANTIREAL posted a bombshell of plagiarism accusations against the studio, claiming the recent Marathon alpha test's "environments are covered with assets lifted from poster designs" that they made in 2017. Later that night, Bungie confirmed the news, and that's the least surprising part about all of this.

https://twitter.com/4nt1r34l/status/1923067988871147605

"We immediately investigated a concern regarding unauthorized use of artist decals in Marathon and confirmed that a former Bungie artist included these in a texture sheet that was ultimately used in-game," Bungie said in a statement last night. "This issue was unknown by our existing art team, and we are still reviewing how this oversight occurred. We take matters like this very seriously."

ANTIREAL told the Washington Post they felt suspicious about the game's style for a while. But when direct copies of their art were found in the alpha test recently, they were finally able to speak out about it.

"It was kind of vindicating to see direct plagiarism because it meant I wasn't crazy for feeling so uncomfortable with the overall direction," ANTIREAL said. "I kept quiet about it because I was advised to seek legal action, but … I don't have enough time or money to fly out to the U.S. to pursue an unwinnable court case against Sony."

This is not the first time Bungie has had issues with plagiarized art. It's not the second time, either. Or the third. And so, a pattern has formed, and questions really need to be asked.

The studio's words feel very light considering that the studio has had problems like this before, including using fan art in a trailer for Destiny 2: The Witch Queen without permission, and using fanart in a Destiny 2 cutscene in 2023 without permission. A partnership with NERF also copied a design made by a fan in 2024.

These all have not been issues of not properly crediting an artist or things happening by mistake. They seem to be deliberate cases of plagiarism that the studio then apologizes for and attempts to make things right by compensating the artist in some way, and only after distancing itself from a guilty party that used to work there. But why does it keep happening? And how?

"To prevent similar issues in the future, we are conducting a thorough review of our in-game assets, specifically those done by the former Bungie artist, and implementing stricter checks to document all artist contributions," Bungie said. "We value the creativity and dedication of all artists who contribute to our games, and we are committed to doing right by them."

Mistakes happen, accidents happen, and video games are big productions that employ lots of designers, contractors, and outside work. But when this same sort of problem keeps popping up, the blame can't just be laid on a "former" artist who's no longer with the company.

Marathon promotional image
Image via Bungie

One of the most uncomfortable factors about this case is that Marathon's reception has been tepid, to say the least. One positive, however, that most have agreed on is that the game's art style is refreshing and unique. And now, even that is in question.

Whether the studio is being sloppy with its work or their artists are straight up copying other work, something has to change, because it's an awful look for the studio that was purchased by PlayStation for $3.6 billion in 2022.

Marathon is currently set to launch on Sept. 23, and game director Joseph Ziegler is scheduled host an AMA later today regarding the game's alpha. It's hard to imagine this current predicament not being addressed during the live stream.

Doom the Dark Ages chapter one secrets

Greetings and salutations, my friendly bots, and welcome back to the "Whatcha been playing?" portion of our site that has been dead and buried until now because I felt like bringing it back, no matter what my corporate overlords think. I'm here to revel in your choices this week of games, and what you plan to play this weekend to put your feet up after a long week of work or school—or both.

It's been a weird week for releases this time around, with an obvious game coming to mind for weekend gaming ahead. Granted, there's still plenty of things on offer as we look forward to Switch 2's release in three weeks (if, like me, you were lucky enough to get a pre-order in.)

But let's quit yapping and discuss games, shall we?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1i3YfGl5ag&ab_channel=BethesdaSoftworks

Doom The Dark Ages is where I expect a lot of you Game Pass owners to be spending your time this weekend. My fellow Bots on-site have been playing and gushing over it for some time now, which has made me a bit envious while I slog away at the backend, trying to find things to talk about. It feels like a super fun time where I can let my head go empty as I slay demons to heavy metal and ride on dragons. What's not to love about that?

I'm not a big Doom fan myself, but the rest of the releases this week are leaving little offerings. So perhaps it's time to go back and check out my backlog of titles I have still to play? The Precinct appears to be a fun indie game, but I also need to go and upgrade my Palworld base ahead of this summer's bigger new expansion. I really wish Sonic Rumble had launched when it was intended to on May 8, as I feel I'd have been grinding away on that on mobile right about now.

I find myself a little lost, honestly, so I'm curious if there's any hidden gems you've been playing that you want to highlight for me, or someone else, to play this weekend if you aren't ripping and tearing away. If you are, leave it in the comments!

(Please. I need to some variety in my life)

Anime Saga player is standing in front of the evolution station. There is a title on top and bottom of the image

In order to get your Anime Saga Units to their absolute peak, you'll eventually need to evolve them. Evolving a Unit can be a little confusing and expensive, so we made this guide on Anime Saga All Evolutions.

How to Evolve a Unit in Anime Saga

An Anime Saga player is looking at the evolution requirements
Screenshot by Destructoid

Let's get one thing out of the way first: you can only evolve Mythic Units. You cannot evolve Legendary or lower Units. Maybe things will change in the future, but for now, only Mythic Units get to be more powerful.

To evolve a Unit, you need to have a few rare items and enough gold to pay for the evolution. The items in question can be bought, or they need to be crafted from the Craft Vendor (Majin Boo). Each unit has different items it needs in order to evolve, but many of them also need the same items, such as the Key.

When a Unit evolves, it gains a new ability and improves existing ones while becoming more powerful in the process. An Evolved unit also has each of its stats increase by 1 (not from B to A, but rather, from B to B+, or B+ to A-).

All Evolution requirements in Anime Saga

Below, we'll list all the requirements needed in order to evolve each Mythical Unit.

Unit Evolution Requirements

Frieren
1 x Weapons Frieren (craftable)
1 x Key
1 x Soup

1 x WeaponsZid

Chainsaw
1 x Magnet
1 x Pochita

All Craftable Evolution Items in Anime Saga

Down below are all the craftable Evolution items which you can only get by combining other items (mostly EXP and Raid drops) at the Giant Majin Boo NPC near the Evolution platform.

AI Darth Vader in Fortnite

If you need help securing a win in Fortnite, hiring an NPC from around the island is a great way to go. One of the most unique allies you can get is AI Darth Vader, a character who fully talks and fights at your side.

AI Darth Vader is an NPC unlike any other, since you can freely talk with him about whatever you want. He's a fun and helpful character to have at your side, so here's how to find and talk to AI Darth Vader in Fortnite.

AI Darth Vader location in Fortnite

The AI Darth Vader NPC spawns at one of three locations in each Fortnite match. There's no way to know where he is without checking all three spots, since his precise location isn't marked on the map with any kind of marker until you're actually at his location. The three spots you can visit to search for him are as follows.

  • A landing pad east of Foxy Floodgate and west of Seaport City.
  • A landing pad near the base of the tall, snowy mountain east of Canyon Crossing and west of Masked Meadows.
  • A landing pad near the very north end of Vader Samurai Solitude.

Although he can appear at any of these three locations, I've had the best luck finding him at Vader Saumaru Solitude. It's unclear whether his spawn rate is higher for this location, but based on my experience with it, it certainly seems like it is. Head to this location first for the best chance of meeting him.

How to talk to AI Darth Vader in Fortnite

There are a few key steps you have to take before you can talk with Darth Vader in Fortnite. To chat with the iconic Sith Lord, you need to do the following:

  • Find Darth Vader around the map. Act fast, because you need to be the first one to recruit him to chat with him.
  • Defeat Darth Vader in battle. The nightly Sith Lord enjoys a good challenge, so to get him on your side, you first need to prove yourself worthy. Take him down in combat to unlock him as a recruitable NPC.
  • Head through Darth Vader's portal. Once you bear him, proceed through his special Training Rift Gate to officially unlock him as an ally.
  • Look for the special Darth Vader button. It can be found near the right middle edge of your screen, right above your inventory.
  • Press the talk button. It varies by platform, but it's always displayed near the right middle edge of your screen. You can change the button in your settings by navigating to the Conversational AI option under the controls page if you don't like what it's set to.

Talk to Darth Vader button Fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

If you're playing with allies, the entire squad has access to this feature as long as AI Darth Vader remains alive as a hired NPC. This means anyone on your team can freely chat with him as the match progresses.

What can AI Darth Vader talk about in Fortnite?

AI Darth Vader is trained by Google's Gemini 2.0 Flash model and ElevenLabs' Flash v2.5 model, so he's ready and willing to talk about most topics in Fortnite. He can offer you advice about what to do next, answer questions you may have, and respond to any silly jokes or queries you may present.

According to reliable members of the Fortnite leak community, there are also many topics he's been programmed to avoid or discourage. All of these topics are as follows.

  • Topics related to V-Bucks and gambling
  • Romantic relationships
  • Swearing and offensive words
  • Real-world violence
  • Hate speech
  • Harming children
  • Quoting more than two lines from media that isn't Star Wars or Disney
  • Various sensitive topics

https://twitter.com/HYPEX/status/1923314247519420468

There's plenty more to get done around the island now that you have a powerful new ally at your side. Next, consider working on completing Jar Jar Binks' story quests, unlocking General Grievous, and using a telephone booth to don a disguise.

terraria main key art for console

If you are playing Terraria on PC, you can active console commands at any time to make your world, or server, have different effects happen in it. While the console commands won't allow you to spawn certain items or get unlimited health, there are still some cool uses to take advantage of.

If you want to use any of these console commands on the console versions of the game, you won't have any luck, since they're exclusively for PC players. But there are also ways to add additional console commands through mods while on PC if you want to get additional options outside of what is available in the base game.

How to enable console commands in Terraria

You can only use console commands while in a Multiplayer server, so make sure you are not on a single-player world to use any of the below commands. If you're in a Multiplayer server, you can activate console commands by doing the following action:

  1. When in-game on the multiplayer session, press the backtick key (`) to bring up the console command
  2. Enter any console command below and then hit the Enter key for the action to happen.

Every Terraria console command

Console Command What it does
help Command list pops up
playing Shows everyone playing on the server
clear Clears console
exit Closes server
exit-nosave Closes server without saving beforehand
save Saves the current progress of the server
kick Kicks a player that proceeds the message
ban Bans a player that proceeds the message
password Shows the server password and allows you to change it
version Shows the version number
time Displays the current time
port Shows the listening port
maxplayers Shows max players allowed on the server
say Sends a message that proceeds "say" to everyone on the server
motd Displays the message of the day
dawn Time is set to dawn
noon Time is set to noon
dusk Time is set to dusk
midnight Time is set to midnight
settle Calms all water sources of the server

As previously mentioned, the console commands on offer are a bit tame. They mainly affect the weather and act more like admin controls to control who is allowed to play on the server. It's pretty basic, so if you were looking for more advanced console commands or stuff that works in single-player games, go and look for mods. There's probably something out there that'll be exactly what you were looking for.

Padme standing by Jar Jar Binks in Fortnite

There are lots of Star Wars characters you can meet up with around the island to tackle story quests in Fortnite. One of them is Jar Jar Binks, and he's got a rather strange collection of tasks for you to get done.

Helping Jar Jar Binks is a great way to earn XP so you can claim all available Galactic Battle rewards. Some of his tasks might be tricky for you to get done, though, so here's how to complete all of Jar Jar Binks' story quests in Fortnite.

All Jar Jar Binks story quests in Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle

There are five tasks you need to complete to finish all of Jar Jar Binks' story quests in Fortnite:

  • Meet Jar Jar Binks.
  • Collect fish.
  • Throw a fish while inside a Republic Outpost.
  • Use Sprays while inside a Republic Outpost.
  • Report back to Jar Jar on how you helped the Clone Troopers.

Meet Jar Jar Binks in Fortnite

Jar Jar Binks map location in Fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid. Remix by Destructoid

To get these tasks started, meet up with Jar Jar Binks. He can be found by a small house along the river north of Foxy Floodgates. He hangs around on the small cliff right outside. Chat with him to get started.

Collect fish in Fortnite

Jar Jar Binks wants to cheer up the Clone Troopers, and to do so, he needs your help. His first task for you is to collect fish. You need a fishing rod to start this task, so walk over to the house by Jar Jar Binks and interact with the barrel near the edge to grab one.

Once you have a fishing rod, walk down to the river near Jar Jar Binks. Throw the line into the river and wait for it to bob. When it does, pull the line back in to catch a fish. You only need to catch one for this quest, but you need to pick the fish up for it to count.

Fishing in Fortnite

Throw a fish while inside a Republic Outpost in Fortnite

Make sure you have a fish in your inventory, then get ready to travel to a Republic Outpost around the island. There are four Republic Outpost locations, all of which can be found near the southeast end of the map.

  • One Republic Outpost is south of Masked Meadows.
  • One Republic Outpost is situated north of Masked Meadows.
  • One Republic Outpost can be found south of Seaport City.
  • One Republic Outpost is north of Kappa Kappa Factory.

At any of these locations, switch to the fish in your inventory and throw it on the ground. As soon as it lands, this quest will be complete. Stay at the Republic Outpost, though, because you have a second task to get done while you're there.

Republic Outpost locations on map in Fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

Use Sprays while inside a Republic Outpost in Fortnite

While at any of the four Republic Outpost locations, you need to use four Sprays for Jar Jar Binks' next task. Select the Emote button and switch over to the Sprays tab. Choose any three Sprays you like and place them anywhere around the Republic Outpost location.

Report back to Jar Jar on how you helped the Clone Troopers in Fortnite

You've successfully done everything Jar Jar Binks asked, so you can now report back to him on how you helped the Clone Troopers. Meet up with Jar Jar Binks back at the small house by the river north of Foxy Floodgates. Chat with him when you're there to get this task done.

There are many more story quests to tackle around the island, so if you're searching for more XP, consider working on Leia Organa's story quests, Luke Skywalker's story quests, and Han Solo's story quests next.
