PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 12:46 PM Xûr is Destiny 2's Exotic gear merchant. He appears every weekend to sell the game's most coveted items in exchange for Legendary shards, but if you're a casual player with limited shards to spend, it can be hard to know which of his wares is most worth your investment. That's where we come in. As of June 12, 2020, it appears that Xûr is back to providing random rolls - so the Exotic merchant is providing more excitement than he has in a long time. Xûr appears every Friday at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm GMT, and will stick around until the Tuesday reset. We'll update this guide shortly after he arrives, so if you're reading this, you need only read on to learn where he is, and which are the best items he's selling this week. Now we're in Beyond Light territory, but Xûr's first appearances have been at the usual spots - so maybe don't expect too many surprises from the merchant in the new year of Destiny content. PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 11:33 AM Looking for mokoko seeds in Lost Ark? There are various ways to level up quickly in Lost Ark, but if you want to focus on leveling up your Roster level instead of Combat level, then collectibles are the best way to do so. There are an abundance of mokoko seeds in Lost Ark found scattered in every corner of the vast map. In fact, there are just over 1000 seeds which can be cashed in for rewards in Mokoko Village. They have a pear-like appearance and a warm, green glow, but despite their appearance, finding these seeds is quite tricky, especially as there are so many of them. We suggest using the detailed Papunika map when you're in each region to see where the mokoko seeds are hiding. Mokoko seeds can be used as a currency and exchanged for items such as potions, cards, and blueprints of varying rarity with some epic and legendary items available. Here's a full list of all the rewards you can get from collecting mokoko seeds in Lost Ark. RELATED LINKS: Best MMOS and MMORPGs on PC, Upcoming PC games, Best fantasy games on PC |
PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 11:33 AM If you want to level up quickly in Lost Ark, the new, old MMO - then there are a few neat tricks to get your character to level 50 and reach the endgame content where you can level up to 60. For beginners just starting out in Lost Ark, the first thing you need to do is choose the best Lost Ark class for you once you've decided which Lost Ark server to play on. Your class begins on combat level 10; this is your individual character's level, while your Roster level is applied to all your characters. Roster experience is gained from achievements and collectibles which unlock boosts across your characters. It's fairly easy to gain Roster experience as it ticks along nicely in the background while you build up your combat level, but a quick way to level up your Roster experience is to collect Mokoko seeds. If however, you want to reach combat level 50 quickly, then here are a few tips on getting to the endgame including how to fast travel and level up your alt characters, so you don't have to go through the grind all over again. PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 11:26 AM The Steam Deck's release date is fast approaching, and accessories for the portable gaming PC are popping up left, right, and centre. While all three models of Valve's handheld come with a carrying case included, a San Fransico based company is crafting an extraordinarily extra high-end case that uses the same material as a bullet-proof vest. Created by Waterfield, the Cityslicker for Steam Deck has a full-grain leather exterior and a ballistic nylon lining. Admittedly, this lavish accessory is more like a messenger bag than a case, and you can even lug the huge handheld around using a detachable strap. Since the Cityslicker is designed to be a bag rather than to go inside one, it also comes in a variety of colours, including black, white, crimson, and chocolate brown. There's even a "grizzly leather" option, just in case you're rocking a woodsman gamer aesthetic. The Cityslicker is definitely trying to be stylish, but the case is also extremely functional and can accommodate a complete Steam Deck setup. From MicroSD card slots to a pouch designed to hold an Anker power bank, Waterfield's take on handheld luggage is a bit like a luxurious Marry Poppins style tech pouch. PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 11:25 AM If you've run into issues progressing through Dying Light 2's campaign, help is on the way. The latest patch for the zombie-ridden open-world game adds an option to the death screen so you can respawn inside the mission area, preventing some instances of campaign progression locking. At certain points in the Dying Light 2 story, you'll wake up in a safe room if you die during an active mission. Normally this isn't a problem, but sometimes it causes problems with the triggers that advance the mission. If you died and wound up outside the mission area, you might find yourself unable to return to the area where your objective was, and this could result in campaign progress being permanently halted. With the latest update, Techland has added an option to the death screen that allows you to respawn inside the mission zone, rather than at a nearby shelter. This should help in those cases where it's crucial to remain in the active area until the mission has been completed. PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 12:00 PM Our Valorant tier list isn't for the highest elo or solo-queue heroes, instead we're ranking all of the Valorant characters based on their potential effectiveness in the average ranked match. We always suggest playing with at least two or three friends so you can actually string some strats together, hence why you won't spot hard-carry agents like Reyna near the top of our list. This tier list also takes the current meta into consideration, so while some agents are very powerful on paper, you'll find their abilities hard to use in ranked because of how most team's generally play. Utility is essential in Valorant and can make the difference between securing a plant and getting trapped in spawn, so smokes, delaying utility, and corner-clearing flashes are generally what separate S-tier from C-tier. Anything that counters Operator plays is good in our books. If your team is trying to figure out what comp they should be running in ranked then hopefully our Valorant ranked tier list will help you out. We've done our research tuning into pro streams and dying countless times over in ranked play so you don't have to. RELATED LINKS: Valorant - all you need to know, Valorant system requirements |
PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 10:23 AM The Halo Infinite devs have been busy working on ways to improve the FPS game's online experience. Developer 343 Industries has shared some lengthy posts outlining a bunch of new updates it's rolling out to improve matchmaking, match stability, multiplayer playlists, and more. In the game's 'February Fix' Halo Waypoint post, the devs note that "desync and the overall online experience have been topics of concern of late", and they've detailed a bunch of updates and tweaks aimed at addressing some of these, as well as a thorough look at how the online experience works, across a range of different facets. Sandbox team lead engineer Richard Watson explains that the devs have increased the priority of low pings to the game's servers in the matchmaking process. "This step should help you match with local players, and therefore have a better connection, more often," the post explains. "As you get more of these local matches, instances of playing on further data centers will also decline." PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 10:54 AM When is the Total War: Warhammer 3 release date? Creative Assembly finally and officially announced Warhammer 3 in May 2021, and everyone's very excited. The latest Total War strategy game and the third entry in the popular Total Warhammer series from Creative Assembly will shift focus to the east of the Warhammer Fantasy world, with a renewed look at the forces of Chaos. Fan favourite faction Kislev returns from the first game as a fully-fledged launch nation, valiantly trying to defend the realms of man from the forces of Chaos. They are joined by the warriors of Grand Cathay, which is being brought to life for the first time in Warhammer III. The Chaos faction itself has also been fleshed out, with all four iconic 'flavours' of Chaos getting the full treatment. Plenty of other details have also been revealed since the original announcement, which we've summarised for you below. This is a living article which we will try and keep up-to-date as new information gets announced. If there's enough to talk about, we may also decide to spin-out dedicated guides for certain topics, which we'll link to below so you can access the information. PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 10:00 AM Arriving in Anor Londo is one of Dark Souls' show-stopping moments. After beating the Iron Golem, I'm hoisted aloft by a trio of gangly, winged demons, who deposit me on a parapet with a spectacular sunset view of the city. Stretching out before me is a glittering hillside city, spires and flying buttresses of carved marble and gold piercing the skyline. After the squalor and grubbiness of the places I've travelled through - Undead Burg, the Depths, Blighttown, and Sen's Fortress - it feels like I've turned up at a distinguished dinner party, woefully underdressed, covered in dirt, and wheezing. After finding my way to the area's first bonfire, I step back out onto the high wall to get my bearings. It takes a little while to get over the sheer grandeur of the view, but as I venture forward, I notice something: Anor Londo isn't designed for humans, at least not primarily. This place is built on a much larger scale: a chapel housing a gigantic painting soars to dizzying heights, while the main stairway up to the imposing central structure has steps that any normal-sized person would struggle to climb. It's a city for giants. My ultimate goal in Anor Londo is dead ahead of me, in a straight-line path up to the doors of the ornate cathedral in the distance. I'm going the long way around, though, because someone forgot to reset the rotating pillar that holds the bridge up. |
PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 9:24 AM Want to unlock the Armaguerra 43 in Warzone Pacific? It's going to be very difficult knocking the MP40 and Welgun off the top spots on our best SMGs in Warzone Pacific list, but we believe in the Armaguerra 43. The highly anticipated Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Season 2 introduces four new weapons to the battle royale game, including the Whitley and the KG M40. Also coming to Warzone Pacific is a new dangerous chemical named Nebula V. This substance produces the same deadly gas players see when the circle collapses. If you manage to land one shot using Nebula V-infused bullets, a downed enemy becomes a ticking time bomb for their teammates. Upon revival, the downed enemy releases toxic gas, slowly draining their squad' health. The Armaguerra 43 SMG isn't going to arrive in Warzone Pacific until the mid-season update, but we can already tell this weapon has potential. The stock version of the Armaguerra 43 features an extremely high rate of fire - if we can address the recoil on this weapon, there's a good chance it could become one of the best guns in Warzone. Here's what you need to unlock the Armaguerra 43 in Warzone Pacific. |
PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 9:23 AM Searching for a way to unlock the Whitley in Warzone Pacific? After a short delay to address some of the bugs plaguing Caldera, Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Season 2 is almost here. The new season is spicing things up by introducing Nebula V, a powerful chemical substance that can be used as ammo or as an explosive device. This sounds deadly when paired up with the Whitley LMG or the KG M40 as rival players won't be able to resurrect their fallen squad members. Warzone Pacific is also adding two mechanics that battle royale game fans may be familiar with. The first is the redeploy balloons scattered around Caldera, allowing squads to reposition themselves across great distances in less than a minute. The second is a Portable Decontamination Stations (P.D.S.) which temporarily creates a zone which the circle collapse gas cannot break through. We already know how deadly the best Bren loadout can be in the right hands, and it looks like the Whitley could go toe-to-toe with one of the best LMGs in Warzone. The base version of the Whitley features the highest damage per shot in its category - with some tweaks to the attachments, we'll be able to turn this into a deadly weapon. Here's what you need to do in order to unlock the Whitley in Warzone Pacific. |
PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 9:22 AM Want to unlock the KG M40 assault rifle in Warzone Pacific? Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Season 2 introduces massive changes to the battle royale game, both in terms of bug fixes and new features. The latest season has been delayed by two weeks in order to address some of the issues players are experiencing with both Vanguard and Warzone. The update includes point of interest changes to Caldera, new items, and four new weapons. The KG M40 boasts the second highest damage per shot in the assault rifle category, yet it's surprisingly accurate when fired from mid to long range. With a fire rate above 600 RPM, you might struggle to control the weapon's recoil at first, but this can be managed with enough practice. We suspect this gun is going to be highly versatile as it has a number of natural strengths that can be built upon. The last few weapons added to Warzone Pacific have shaken up the meta, including the Welgun and Cooper Carbine, two excellent weapons that have become staples of the game. We hope the KG M40 and the Whitley LMG will bring something new to the table, so here's everything you need to unlock the KG M40 in Warzone Pacific. |
PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 7:29 AM February 14 is fast approaching, which means Valentine's Day-themed events for all the biggest and best PC games are beginning to go live. Final Fantasy XIV's Valentione's Day event (yep, that's the correct spelling) is in full swing, GTA Online has got its own round of Valentine's content, and now it's MMORPG Black Desert Online's turn. This year's event is live as of now until March 9, so you're getting a good few weeks' worth of fun. While Black Desert Online is celebrating Valentine's Day 2022, players will find they get some new log-in rewards 60 minutes after hopping in, such as one called Box Full O'Love, whose icon is a suitably sentimental, heart-shaped box of chocolates. These boxes are for using as raffle tickets to participate in contests that will go live as of February 14, and you can earn up to ten boxes each day. Rewards that'll be on offer during the raffle-style events will include an Epheria Carrack Box, TET (IV) Blackstar Weapon Box, TET (IV) Black Distortion Earring, 5000 Capras Stones, and a Dream Horse Box, among other things. While the items are subject to change before February 16 rolls around, you can check out the full list of goodies up for grabs on the game's site. RELATED LINKS: Black Desert Online guide |
PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 6:52 AM A popular MMO is facing congestion issues - have you heard of that one before? While Final Fantasy XIV had its fair share of challenges following Endwalker's launch, it's now Lost Ark's turn to grapple with swelling player counts. As per SteamDB, the new PC game is hitting concurrent player counts of 500,000 on Valve's storefront daily, and that's before the free-to-play update. To avoid further congestion, Amazon Games has put several plans in motion. New people won't be able to create characters on servers that have extensive queue times. If you already have a character on one of the busier servers - say, Mari, Azena, or Kadan - you'll still be able to create additional characters for your roster. The devs explain that the character creation limit will likely remain in place for the foreseeable future, though Amazon Games will provide an update when it's eventually removed. The devs are also adding 15 new servers ahead of Lost Ark's free-to-play launch. The NA West data centre is getting one new server, NA East is getting six, central Europe is getting six, and South America is getting two. PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 6:32 AM During its Product Premiere earlier this year, AMD revealed plans to launch Zen 4 Ryzen processors sometime in H2 2022. While many believed we wouldn't see AM5 chips until Q4, new rumours suggest we may not have to wait quite as long for what will undoubtedly be team red's best ever best gaming CPUs. Hardware leaker Greymon55 claims that Zen 4 will arrive before Q3 2022 and that AMD's plans are "very different from the early days." What this means exactly isn't entirely clear, but it could be that the company has changed course following the surprisingly strong competition provided by 12th Gen Intel Core processors. When pressed for a more specific date by Twitter users, Greymon55 happily obliged by revealing that new Ryzen 7000 CPUs will arrive before August, meaning they'll be with us sometime in July. If AMD can stick to this release date, it may give them a significant lead over Intel's 13th gen Core processors, codenamed Raptor Lake, which are also scheduled to arrive later this year. PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 6:28 AM A week ago today, God of War developer Santa Monica Studio pushed out the v1.0.5 update for the action-adventure game's PC version, which introduced a bunch of minor but handy tweaks that generally tidied up the place a bit. It seems, though, that the update introduced a hiccup that was causing crashes for a lot of players, but the good news is that's now been patched out. The v.1.0.7 patch notes, which the studio has shared on Steam today, only list one single change - but it's an important one from the sounds of it. "Fixed a crash that impacted a high number of players after patch v1.0.5 caused by a Link Time Optimisation complier issue," the note explains. It's not clear just how many of the game's players were affected, but given the mention of it being a "high number" it sounds like plenty will be excited to know the crash bug has now been resolved. The good news is the notes add that players on the game's experimental branch have helped the devs to confirm the fix, so hopefully all players should find the bug banished, squashed underfoot, or - well - however you like to think of game hiccups being sorted. |
PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 6:24 AM Gaming SSDs could be the next component to suffer from supply issues, thanks to a recent dilemma at Western Digital's production plants. According to a Trendforce report, the memory manufacturer lost 6.5 billion gigabytes of memory due to contamination, accounting for 3% of the company's annual output. While the specifics of the contamination issues aren't clear, the incident predominantly affects 3D NAND flash memory. As a result, SSD prices in Q2 this year could increase by 5-10%, and the situation could exacerbate ongoing gaming PC shortages as a whole. In a statement, Kioxia Holdings Corp, Western Digital's business partner, says that the issue relates to "impurities in a specific production process of the 3D flash memory." While the company says it's taking steps to implement a recovery plan, it doesn't expect its 2D NAND operations to be affected. This could enable some storage options to dodge impending pricing and availability woes, but it could still sting anyone hoping to buy the best SSD for gaming. PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 12:16 PM February 11, 2022 Lost Ark's launch has been delayed by a few hours. Lost Ark is shaking up the Steam charts in a way we haven't seen since, well… the last Amazon-published MMORPG to hit Valve's platform. The Western release of the 2019 Korean action-MMO is popping off in a big way, and right now you've still got to pay for a Founder's Pack to get in. Luckily, the Lost Ark free-to-play release time isn't far off. Pre-loads already began earlier this week, so if you want to be ready the instant servers are open for free-to-play folks, you can start that download right now on Steam. While there have been some issues with extensive queue times, Amazon Games has put several measures in place to ensure a smooth free-to-play launch. We have several new Lost Ark servers on the way, and character creation on the busier worlds has been halted temporarily. Check out the full list of Lost Ark servers at the link. PCGamesN Friday, February 11, 2022 9:36 AM So you want to know about Lost Ark servers? They say the most stressful decision in any MMO game is deciding which character class to pick first, but really it's choosing which server to jump into. This is especially important when you're planning to play a game with friends - you'll want to make sure you're all playing on the same server. So while you may already know which Lost Ark class you want to try out first, you'll need to nail your server choice. If you are playing with friends, it might be worth sharing the server list with them so you can have a conversation about it. Note that North America is split into two region groupings, and the east coast possesses more server options than the west coast. Europe has the largest selection of servers, and there are a couple of South American server options as well. We've put together this guide so you can see what the current server list is, how to check your server's status, as well as other commonly asked questions such as whether you can change a character's server and which content can be played across servers. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, February 11, 2022 12:00 PM My last Elden Ring hands-on was illuminating, to say the least. As I got turned to mulch by a mechanical chariot, split in two by an ulcerated lizard, and bullied by a beast man, I simply... gave up. I said to myself, "I'll come back to this later. Yeah", with that final "yeah" escaping from my lips like a wisp of steam from a kettle. The game boiled me alive, but its open world accommodated these feverish outbursts far better than previous Souls games. There were vast swathes of map to help bring my temperature back down from simmer to sparkling. One thing troubled me, though, and that was the rate at which I'd zip between bosses in-between distractions. It felt like I lacked the focus needed to keep up with Elden Ring's open world. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, February 11, 2022 11:00 AM It's tempting to think that a city builder should focus on covering more ground, simulating a wider range of those elements in a bid for authenticity, or comprehensiveness. Power To The People takes the other approach. You're the decision maker of an energy company, tasked solely with providing electricity to towns you have no control over. Do a good job and you'll make enough money to scale up alongside the village/town/city. For such a simple premise it's surprisingly good at engaging the part of your brain that covers strategy and puzzles. Considering that power lines are normally an annoying hassle in games that simulate them at even a basic level, I'm also impressed by how entertaining it is. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, February 11, 2022 11:00 AM Whenever a game like Lost Ark comes out, it shows the public is still hungry for something that looks and sounds and plays even a tiny bit like Diablo. Lost Ark does provide what is the crudest part of the appeal of something like Diablo - i.e. a thousand chittering enemies flying at you at once as you vaporise them with minimal clicking - but I wouldn't say it's a lovingly crafted version of it. Like the difference between the Wicked Witch in Snow White and a Halloween costume in a plastic bag labelled Legally Distinct Evil Magic Stepmother. But there are also things I appreciate about Lost Ark in general, and its version of [flaps hands] whatever this is. In the spirit of Lost Ark's slightly older (one might even say dated?) sensibilities, I'm going to break it down like I'm reviewing the game in a 90s game mag, separating the game into its constituent parts - just as one can remove the egg from a cake after baking it. Although I should make it clear I'm not doing our proper Lost Ark review. That honour falls to Ed, who is more plugged in to modern MMORPGs than I am. I'm just here to talk about how Lost Ark does and does not compare to Diablo - specifically Diablo II, because that's the best one. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, February 11, 2022 8:03 AM Just for a second, as you hit the apex of a particularly audacious jump, the bottom end of Dying Light 2's audio drops out. It's as if bass were a grounded concept you'd momentarily left behind - an earthy comfort for mortals. Then the tumble begins, and you'd better have already picked out a nice, safe spot to land. This is the irresistible dichotomy of the parkour game, as first defined by Mirror's Edge in 2008 - an invitation to soar, with the understanding that true freedom doesn't come for free. Height is earned, momentum is managed, and mistakes are punished with a 30 foot plunge. Perhaps you've seen footage of Dying Light 2's rooftop running and wondered, "How much of that is me?" In a medium where climbing systems are typically automated rather than simulated, and first-person control tends to end at the waist, it's natural to suspect that what you're seeing is a fancy set of animations, triggered by pointing your character in a given direction and holding down the parkour key. I'm here to tell you that Dying Light 2 is not that game: it's the real deal. It is, among many other things, Mirror's Edge. |

Siliconera Friday, February 11, 2022 1:00 PM Each WonHobby offers a look at what Good Smile Company is planning, and WonHobby 35 was no exception. Plenty of merchandise from games showed up, and this time Demon's Souls and Elden Ring figma figures appeared. Each one is an unpainted prototype. For those unaware, a Good Smile Company figma is essentially an articulated action figure with multiple accessories, extra face plates, and additional hand parts. The Elden Ring figure is Bloody Wolf. The character is holding a sword and shield in the prototype.
As for the Demon's Souls figma, two figures appeared. First, here's one of a player character wearing fluted armor. The prototype shows that, like the Elden Ring figma, it will come with a sword and shield.
Finally, there's the Maiden in Black. Her prototype is shown holding a long torch.
These aren't the first Good Smile Company FromSoftware figures. It also released a Bloodborne Nendoroid and figmas. Demon's Souls is available on the PS3 and PS5. Elden Ring will come to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on February 25, 2022. There are no release windows for the Demon's Souls and Elden Ring figma figures. Siliconera Friday, February 11, 2022 12:00 PM It's a big time for Pokemon! With two new games in recent months, there's a lot of energy and attention around the franchise. The Sword & Shield: Brilliant Stars expansion of the Pokemon Trading Card Game looks to capitalize on that with high-power cards, visual flair, and a focus on the progenitor Pokemon itself, Arceus. By far, the biggest draw for Brilliant Stars is its Trainer Gallery subset. These cards feature a Pokemon and an accompanying trainer. With cards that feature Eevee romping around Bill's office or Urshifu training with Mustard, they offer a more active view into the world of Pokemon. The Trainer Gallery is a bit rarer than we'd like, though! It'd be cool to have more fun art in common or uncommon tiers, rather than crossing our fingers for a chance to see one every few packs. Brilliant Stars marks the debut of the VSTAR mechanic, the latest variation of top-tier power in the game. VSTAR cards evolve from V, and each has a "VSTAR Power" in tow. It can be an ability or move, but either way, you can only use one of these each match. It feels like a rework of the GX idea from the last generation of the game, with a bit more flexibility on function with included ability options that don't end your turn to use. Arceus VSTAR is the poster child for the set, and for this new mechanic too. Its Star Birth power lets you search your deck for any two cards! As a one-time-use power, it can set up whatever combo you want, and you'll probably lose if you let your opponent use it. Given that both forms of Arceus V can load your other fighters with a bunch of energy, too? And with the flexibility of colorless type? Honestly scary to face! Which feels right for Arceus. On its face, it does seem a little weird that the Pokemon TCG is still in the Sword & Shield era. After all, we just got two new full entries in recent months! And though Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were remakes, Arceus was a full new game with lots of mechanical experiments. But the TCG? Not ready for a bunch of new ideas yet. VSTAR has some promise, but it's definitely iterative! The Trainer Gallery looks cool, but it's not a gameplay innovation. Perhaps we'll see a true new era in the near future, but The Pokemon Company isn't ready to hit the reset button just yet. Still, centering Brilliant Stars around Arceus is a clear attempt to associate it with Legends. And there are a few scraps of ideas here and there that feel like a nod to the game's new mechanics. Take Double Turbo Energy, for example! The new, weakened version of Double Colorless Energy lets you attack a turn faster at the expense of damage. We might get a more explicit version of Agile Style in the future, but this seems like a good approximation of how that could work. Brilliant Stars feels most geared towards the players who want to buy a whole pile of cards and open 'em, hoping for a big find. The physical equivalent of shiny hunting, perhaps? Or, you know, gambling, we guess. However you want to look at it, the big finds in this set are cool to see. That's true whether it's the Trainer Gallery collection, gold Galarian legendary birds or a host of other gems. We'd really love to one day see more value in the lower rarities. Such a move would help the game's variety, and also make draft play a bit more doable for a game that's always struggled with that format. But today? Today's not that day. The latest Pokemon Trading Card Game expansion, Sword & Shield: Brilliant Stars, launches February 25, 2022. For more Pokemon TCG coverage, check out our archive. Siliconera Friday, February 11, 2022 11:30 AM Nintendo Switch Online players tackling Earthbound won't need to go through it with an unofficial walkthrough. Nintendo released a piece of gaming history alongside the game. People can now view Earthbound Player's Guide online. This pamphlet originally came with copies of the SNES game to help people through the JRPG. [Thanks, Nintendo Enthusiast!] The Earthbound Player's Guide is a 135 page booklet. As expected of a strategy guide, it offers a step-by-step tour of the game. Characters, enemies, items, and secrets are all detailed. There are also fake newspaper articles going over events in different areas of the game. The Dusty Dunes Sesame Seeds side quest is also covered. This isn't the first time Nintendo's offered the Earthbound walkthrough alongside a rerelease. When the game appeared on the Wii U, it was also possible to look through the strategy guide again. Earthbound is now a part of the Nintendo Switch Online SNES library. It was a February 2022 Nintendo Direct shadowdrop alongside Earthbound Beginnings. People can also find it on systems like the SNES, Nintendo Wii U, and New Nintendo 3DS. (It appeared on the Game Boy Advance in Japan too.) The Earthbound Player's Guide walkthrough can be viewed or downloaded directly from Nintendo. Siliconera Friday, February 11, 2022 11:00 AM Good Smile Company's WonHobby 35 event is under way, and one new announcement from the show could excite Metroid fans: A new Samus Aran figure. Part of the company's figma line of articulated action figures, the Metroid Dread figma is based on Samus' updated appearance in the game. https://twitter.com/GoodSmile_US/status/1491945344824926230 Though no actual photos of the prototype were available, some artwork from Metroid Dread shows off what the final figure is likely to look like. As in the game, the figma will reflect the changes wrought by Samus Aran's visit to the planet ZDR. Rather than the classic orange-and-red color scheme, her Power Suit sports a dominant blue-and-white schema, with organic-looking threads connecting different sections of the armor. The new look in Metroid Dread is a result of her Power Suit regenerating and changing following the events of Metroid Fusion, which Dread is a follow-up to. Later in the game, Samus gains upgrades that change her suit appearance to resemble her Varia and Gravity suits. The Metroid Dread figma will be the fourth figma release based on the series. Two were released in 2014 and 2016 based on Metroid: Other M, representing Samus in her Power Suit and Zero Suit appearances. The third Metroid figma released in 2020 and was based on Samus' appearance in Metroid Prime 3. The Metroid Dread figma is in development. The game itself is immediately available on Nintendo Switch. A free update planned for April 2022 will add two new difficulty levels. The post Metroid Dread Figma Features Samus' New Look appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Friday, February 11, 2022 10:30 AM When people go through Salmon Run in Splatoon 3, they will see familiar Boss Salmonids, as Nintendo confirmed all Splatoon 2 bosses will return. The update came after the February 2022 Nintendo Direct. New screenshots of some returning foes showed up too. Here's a look at some of the Splatoon 2 Salmon Run bosses in Splatoon 3. (Note that 10 bosses total appeared in the previous game and well be back.) In many cases, multiple Boss Salmonids appear in a single screenshot. First, this screenshot shows a Steelhead Boss Salmonid. In the background, there's a Steel Eel. The Steelhead and Steel Eel Splatoon 3 Salmon Run bosses are joined by a Flyfish in this image. Meanwhile, an Inkling is going head-to-head against a Flyfish in this screenshot. Finally, the last image shows a Stinger attacking an Inkling. We also have a name for the Splatoon 3 Salmon Run map shown in the Nintendo Direct. It is called Sockeye Station. This would mark the first Salmonid-centric map. The Splatoon 2 maps tended to be more neutral ground.
Splatoon 3 will appear on the Nintendo Switch in Summer 2022. Splatoon 2 is available on the system now. The post Splatoon 2 Salmon Run Bosses Return in Splatoon 3 appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Friday, February 11, 2022 10:00 AM From time to time, miHoYo releases official wallpapers for its games through its N0va Desktop application. This is one of those days. There is now a Genshin Impact live wallpaper for Albedo. It is free to get the app and set it up. However, like many of the applications recent releases, this one is only able to be used on PCs and Android tablets. You can't use it on Android phones. The wallpaper takes Albedo to one of his most frequent hangouts. In the game, he often heads to the Dragonspine mountains to research and paint. In the Genshin Impact live wallpaper, Albedo is at an easel painting his surroundings. From time to time, he'll move and you'll get a glimpse of his face. (His back is to the viewer, for the most part.) This Albedo live wallpaper is the first Genshin Impact one to appear in February 2022. Typically, two or three show up each month. For example, live wallpaper for Hu Tao, Klee, and Kokomi all appeared in January 2022. Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and Android and Apple iOS devices. A Nintendo Switch version is on the way. The N0va Desktop application is available on PCs and Android devices. Siliconera Friday, February 11, 2022 9:01 AM Back when Gust first announced Atelier Sophie 2, Siliconera spoke with Producer Junzo Hosoi about its development. Now that its release date is drawing nearer, we again talked about what people can expect from the game. Since we know more about what to expect, this time we talked about some additional elements. For example, we talked about how Atelier Sophie 2 gameplay changed due to new additions and what people can expect from characters like Sophie, Plachta, and Ramizel. Jenni Lada: Given the positioning of Atelier Sophie 2 in the series timeline, what kind of character development do you hope to show for both Sophie and Plachta in it? Junzo Hosoi: Atelier Sophie 2 takes place between the stories of the Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book and Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey. Players will be able to see what kind of experiences Sophie had before meeting Firis and how she grew from those experiences, as well as see how Sophie and Plachta influence each other and how it benefits them both, so I hope everyone will look forward to seeing how these characters grow. As usual, Sophie will have a number of allies on her side. Which one of the Atelier Sophie 2 characters do you feel is the most unique and why? Hosoi: The most unique character in Atelier Sophie 2 is Ramizel. She is a leader-like presence in the town of Roytale, where the story takes place, and is like an older sister to Sophie and Plachta. I don't want to spoil the story, but I will say that the game will be even more enjoyable if it is played while trying to imagine what kind of relationship Ramizel has to Sophie and her friends. When developing a game for multiple platforms like Atelier Sophie 2, how do you ensure it is as enjoyable on the Switch as it is on the PS4? Hosoi: Our concept for development is to aim for a higher level of quality of all graphics, including lighting and facial expressions, in addition to processing speed and loading times of course, and we developed the game aiming for the same level of high quality regardless of it being for the PS4 or the Switch. One of the new gameplay elements in Atelier Sophie 2 is a Major Gathering Spot minigame. What led to its development and how does it affect the general quality of life and difficulty of the game? Hosoi: The puzzle synthesis that is used in the Mysterious series has been well-received by many players, but in contrast we also received feedback that it was difficult. So we decided to add mini-game elements that, depending on how the game is played, make it possible to create materials required for synthesis. It's a system that expands the degree of freedom in gameplay so that players can mull over puzzles using materials collected simply through gathering, or create materials they want by playing through Major Gathering Spot mini-games. Depending on the Major Gathering Spot results, it is possible to create powerful equipment early on in the game, but it's not always necessary in order to clear the game. They can be played as a break from synthesis or battles, or as an attempt to be able to do more synthesis; we hope players will enjoy them in a way that matches their play style. In Atelier Sophie 2, one new gameplay feature allows people to control the weather. How did this concept come up and did past Atelier games lead to it? Hosoi: I wanted something that could showcase to the fullest extent the dream-like taste of the Mysterious series, while having the ability to greatly change the field in order to enjoy exploring, so weather control is something that we considered since the start of development. Also, the game setting of the dream world Erde Wiege itself being another world is also a major factor. Because it's a different world, we can incorporate many "mysterious" elements, so it is a system where the players can really feel like they're in the world of Atelier Sophie 2. Could we see Atelier Sophie 2 DLC similar to the sorts included in past Atelier games, like BGM, costumes, additional playable characters, and events? Hosoi: Yes, we are planning on various DLC including BGM and costumes! Look forward to them! Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream will come to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC on February 25, 2022. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Friday, February 11, 2022 1:00 PM The three-day headstart for Lost Ark players who purchased a Founder's Pack ends today, as the game launches for everyone. However, the massive number of players who went the headstart route has resulted in long queues on some servers. New players can no longer create characters on certain servers, meaning friends who didn't start early are now forced to play on different servers or begin again. In response to this, Smilegate RPG and Amazon Games have gifted players who purchased Founder's Packs some additional items to soften the pain of moving. If you redeemed your Founder's Pack on a character, the items are all locked to that character and server. So, now that players are being forced to switch to join up with friends, they would essentially leave behind their items. With that in mind, Smilegate announced that anyone who redeems their Founder's Pack before February 14 at 3 PM ET will get an extra set of the exclusive items. All Founder's Pack owners will receive another c... |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Friday, February 11, 2022 12:00 PM A recent petition was posted on Change.org in protest of Electronic Arts' handling of Battlefield 2042. The petition requests that anyone who purchased Battlefield 2042, regardless of platform, should be owed a refund. This is due to the unsatisfactory state of the game at launch, and players' frustration at the companies. So far, the petition has managed to gain over 150,000 signatures from fans of the series who feel let down. The petition reads: "EA's release of Battlefield 2042 was a mockery of every customer who purchased this video game for $70 (USD) due to EA's false advertising." It continues to accuse EA of not fulfilling the promises made at launch and releasing 2042 in an nearly unplayable and buggy state. Most fans supporting this petition aren't looking for a refund because Battlefield 2042 is a terrible game. In its own right as a standalone product, it is a serviceable albeit flawed first-person shooter. The crux of the issue for t... |

WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews Friday, February 11, 2022 8:38 AM The Everest 5.1 surround sound is the latest product from Majority, the relatively small audio company that recently sent me their M40 speakers which I really liked despite a couple of negatives. The Everest is a 300w soundbar boasting Dolby Digital designed to fit under your TV or monitor, and its party trick is that it comes with two wireless speakers to provide surround sound to help immerse you in games, music and movies, plus a chunky wireless subwoofer. That's a tempting package, especially if, like me, your setup is in a small room where space is at a premium. However, it all comes at a reasonably hefty price of around £230. That's, like, at least two bags of sweets! So, is the Majority Everest worth that many bags of sweets, or like climbing the mountain itself ,should you just not bother and stuff your face with Jelly Babies instead? |
