River City Girls Zero and River City Girls 2 Announced
It's been a good day to be a fan of River City Girls. In addition to the original game getting a PS5 port and a physical release courtesy of Limited Run Games, publisher Arc Systems Works and developer Wayforward also announced River City Girls Zero and River City Girls 2. The former is slated to release later this year, while the latter will drop in 2022.
River City Girls Zero is a localized version of Shin Nekketsu Koha: Kunio-tachi no Banka, which was originally released in 1994. It will launch for Switch in late 2021 and "other platforms" later. Limited Run Games will produce a physical edition. According to the publisher, "River City Girls Zero lets players experience the first time that Misako and Kyoko teamed up with Kunio and Riki to take to the streets in hard-hitting, curb-stomping action. While the graphics, music, and gameplay all remain true to the classic 16-bit Super Famicom release, this version marks the first time the 1994 game will be localized for the West. A new opening cinematic, new manga cutscenes, and new theme song by River City Girls composer Megan McDuffee have been added as well."
River City Girls 2 will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam. Limited Run Games will be producing a physical edition for this game as well. According to the publisher, "Picking up shortly after the original, River City Girls 2 once again put players in control of Misako and Kyoko—as well as Kunio, Riki, and other characters—as they set out on an all-new beat-'em-up adventure across the mean streets of River City. New moves, new enemies, new recruits, new environments, and the return of an old foe await, along with the same over-the-top sense of humor and adrenaline-pumping combat of its predecessor. The game will also feature two-player co-op action both locally and online."
River City Girls is Coming to PS5
Developer Wayforward and publisher Arc Systems Works have announced that River City Girls will be coming to PlayStation 5 version, with a limited physical version of the game to be released by Limited Run Games. River City Girls was originally released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam in September of 2019.
River City Girls is a new takes on a classic IP. According to the publisher, "In this all-new entry in the legendary beat-'em-up series, hot-blooded heroes Kunio and Riki have been captured, leaving it to their hard-hitting girlfriends, Kyoko and Misako, to serve up some payback. As you punch and kick your way across town—either solo or with a friend in local co-op – you'll gain new skills, chow down on power-ups, wield an assortment of weapons, and unleash an arsenal of combos, throws, and special attacks that will leave the bad guys crying for mama – all in outrageous 16-bit style! The awesome action is punctuated by manga story panels, anime cutscenes, and an epic synth-pop soundtrack."
Co-op beat-'em-ups have been all the rage recently, especially after the excellent Streets of Rage 4, though River City Girls actually pre-dates that game by a year. It was a good day for River City Girls, as River City Girls Zero and River City Girls 2 were both announced.
Elden Ring Director Hidetaka Miyazaki Talks Weather, Horse Riding, and Stealth
We've been waiting a long time for Elden Ring, and now that we finally have some footage, the details just won't stop coming. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has been offering details on just about everything, including the game's major areas, freedom and world design. Miyazaki has also detailed the game's fast travel, progression, and crafting systems. Now we have more news, courtesy of an interview Miyazaki did with Famitsu, which was translated by VGChronicle.
Now we have new details, this time detailing the game's weather, fast travel, stealth, and multiplayer systems. According to Miyazaki, Elden Ring's time and weather systems change in real time. "They also have an effect on the game," Miyazaki said. "For example, if it's night-time, both you and your enemies will be less visible to each other, which will change the experience of contacting and attacking enemies, and there are special traces that are more visible at night."
There's more. In addition to be able to ride a horse, which was shown in the game's trailer, players will now be able to jump to avoid attacks or deal heaving strikes. In addition, Elden Ring has a basic stealth system that allows players to hide in bushes and get the drop on enemies. Miyazaki also noted that players will not be able to ride horses in multiplayer and estimated that the game will be about 30 hours long "without too many side trips."
Monster Hunter Rise is Getting New Event Quests, Rewards, and More Soon
Monster Hunter Rise has been getting some pretty solid support since its launch earlier this year, with update 3.0 in particular having everything from a new ending to new monsters. Capcom is likely going to keep supporting the game for some time to come, and at their E3 2021 showcase, they provided new details on what's coming next for Rise.
Details were largely quite underwhelming though. For starters, its first crossover is going to be with Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, in the form of a Tsukino Palico layered armour set on June 18 as an event quest reward, and the Rider layered armour set for your hunter, which you can get starting July 9 by using save data from Monster Hunter Stories 2.
Meanwhile, update 3.1 is arriving for Monster Hunter Rise on June 24. It will add four downloadable event quests, new gestures, armour, and sticker sets as event quest rewards. More downloadable content and event quests are coming at the end of July and then again in August. Both months will also see a collaboration each, but there's no details on what to expect from that. So yeah, pretty underwhelming overall. Check out the full details below.
Monster Hunter Rise is available on Nintendo Switch and launches for PC early next year. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of ruin is launching for both platforms on July 9.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles Receives New Story Trailer and Gameplay
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, which focuses on Phoenix Wright's ancestor Ryunosuke Naruhodo and legendary detective Herlock Sholmes, received some new footage during Capcom's E3 2021 showcase. The collection includes 10 episodes with players investigating different mysteries and then arguing in court over various claims. Check it out below.
The gameplay showcases how the player will offer corrections to different deductions made by Herlock, which can lead to advancing cases. As you point out contradictions in court, you'll rally jurors over to your side. Visual novel fans will also be happy to hear that there's an auto-advance option, letting you get on with the story without worrying about any busywork.
Along with all of the games in the series, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles includes English and Japanese audio tracks, additional outfits and the "From the Vaults" DLC available as a pre-order bonus. It's out on July 27th for PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more details and gameplay in the coming weeks.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin – Palamute Monstie Coming as Free Post-Launch Update
Capcom's Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin received a new story trailer at the company's E3 2021 showcase. It starts with the birth of Razewing Ratha, who's believed to possess the Wings of Ruin that could end the world. Check it out below.
The trailer showcases the bond between the player character and Ratha formed through the power of Kinship. We get to see the trials they endure and the various characters that join them on their journey. However, it's the end of the trailer that's most interesting. Capcom confirmed that the RPG would have free title updates. The first arrives on July 15th and introduces a monstie in the Palamute, which debuted in Monster Hunter Rise.
A trial version of the title will also be coming on June 25th. Players can experience the game and then transfer their progress over to the full game when it's available. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is out on July 9th for PC and Nintendo Switch – stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
Resident Evil Village DLC is Now in Development, Capcom Confirms
Most Resident Evil Village fans will tell you that it's a game that's particularly rife for expansions, with plenty of characters and story arcs that DLC could focus on. Sure enough, fans have been hoping for expansions since the game came out. Until now, there was little indication that that would happen, with no word on whether DLC was even planned for the game.
At their E3 2021 presentation, however, Capcom confirmed that due to "popular demand", they've started working on DLC for Resident Evil Village. No other details were given, other that a brief addendum that more info will follow soon. This entire message, of course, was just delivered with text on the screen. It seems DLC is pretty early in development right now, so there's no telling when it'll be out. There's also the question if this will be a story expansion or an update to the Mercenaries mode.
Resident Evil Village is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin Trial is Broken, Square Enix Working to Resolve
If you watched the Square Enix Presents: Summer 2021 E3 showcase yesterday, then you no doubt caught the announcement of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. Developed with Team Ninja, the hack and slash title is set in the same universe as Final Fantasy 1 as Jake and friends fight to slay Garland/Chaos. Square Enix also announced that a trial version was live for PS5.
However, those who downloaded it found the demo to be corrupted and unplayable. The developer responded on Twitter, noting that it was "aware of issues being experienced" and it's currently working to resolve it. There will be an update tweeted "as soon as we can" so fans will have to sit tight and wait.
It's probably not the best look for the title whose announcement trailer inspired mixed actions (mostly due to the main character's design and overuse of the word "Chaos"). Nevertheless, the trial will provide a better look at what to expect gameplay-wise. It offers multiple weapons and Jobs for players to choose from, though progress made won't carry over into the full game.
Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin is out in 2022 for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and PC.
We're aware of issues being experienced while trying to download and play #StrangerOfParadise #FinalFantasy Origin Trial Version.
We're working to resolve this issue and will tweet an update as soon as we can, we appreciate your patience.

Starfield is "Very Big", Developed to be Played for a "Long Time" – Todd Howard
Starfield is a game of several firsts for Bethesda Game Studios. It's the studio's first new universe in more than two decades; ventures into outer space and explores the great beyond; and is developed using the new Creation Engine 2. Despite all of that, it still has many of the tenets that define a Bethesda title like first and third person modes. Director Todd Howard even says the structure is "kind of like Skyrim."
Much like the latter, it will have one playing for a long time. Speaking to The Telegraph, Howard spoke a bit about the design for cities while touching on how rewarding the experience would be. "I don't want to set any crazy expectations for that. You know, we have cities and we build them like we built the cities we've built before. And we have lots of locations that we're building like we've built before.
"And we want that experience of you exploring those to be, you know, as rewarding as we've done before. There are some different spins on that given the subject matter, but we like that about games. We want to point in a direction and walk and have our curiosity be piqued, and hopefully rewarded."
He then added that it's going to be "very big." "People are still playing Skyrim and we have learned from that. We spent more time building Starfield to be played for a long time, if you so chose that you just wanted to keep playing it. It's got some more hooks in it for that, that we added later to a game like Skyrim… while still making sure that somebody who just wants to play it, and go through the main quests and 'win', or feel they've accomplished something large is doable."
So if you're keen on going through Starfield for a one-and-done experience, then Bethesda has you covered. It should be interesting to see how mods will be handled, since that's one reason why The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim remains popular till this day. We'll have to wait and see especially because Starfield releases on November 11th 2022. It will be available for Xbox Series X/S and PC along with Xbox Game Pass.
