In an effort to curb the tide of hate raids, Twitch has deployed a number of new verification tools that should hopefully make it harder for bad actors to ruin streams, and offer streamers greater control over who gets to join their chat.

Twitch is adding phone verification chat, which allows streamers and their moderators to only limit livestream chat access to viewers who verified their phone numbers. The company is also updating the existing email verification system.

The idea is that both can be used together to verify, as much as possible, that the viewer is a real person, which should help keep bots away. Users are allowed up to five Twitch accounts per phone number, but if one account gets suspended from Twitch, the rest are gone, too. And, if one account gets banned from a specific channel, the rest will.

Microsoft just hosted its Tokyo Game Show 2021 showcase, and it's already dropping the goods. The first announcement from the company has revealed that both Scarlet Nexus and AI: The Somnium Files will be coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Scarlet Nexus will be available today, and Microsoft confirmed it will be playable on PC, Xbox and Cloud.

AI: The Somnium Files, by all accounts, is a peculiar story with a big heart and some really interesting ideas fuelling it – a great addition to Game Pass for anyone eager to give it a shot without dropping the cash.

The Good Life, the bizarre photography mystery game by Deadly Premonition mastermind Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro and his team at White Owls, has a demo on Xbox Game Pass available now. The crowdfunded game recently got a release date of October 15 after several years of development and multiple delays. The demo is good news for those wary about the title after its bumpy development cycle, and Xbox fans can rest even easier knowing it's launching to Game Pass on day one.

The Good Life stars Naomi, a New York photographer who visits the British town of Rainy Woods to investigate why it's known as "the happiest place on Earth". She needs a big scoop in order to repay a massive debt, and she gets more than she bargains for when she discovers Rainy Woods has an unusual secret: when the sun goes down, its residents transform into cats and dogs. Solving this mystery involves taking photos and collecting clues. You'll also work to repay your debt by taking odd jobs and saving money, which you can also use to source up your home and garden. You can also ride sheep because why not?

In addition to Xbox, The Good Life is also coming to PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC. A demo will also be available during the Steam Next Festival on October 1.

Today, Mircosoft announced that Xbox Cloud Gaming is expanding to four new countries: Japan, Mexico, Brazil, and Australia, starting on October 1.

Microsoft's service allows users to play games remotely over the internet on their PC, tablet, or smartphone. The service launched in the U.S. around this time last year and has only continued to expand since. Xcloud users stream over 100 games from the cloud, including Yakuza: Like a DragonMinecraft Dungeons, and Dragon Quest 11 S: Definitive Edition. The service is a great way to experiment with games quickly, allowing for great game discovery, as you can easily try out a game within seconds and see if you like it without waiting for a download.

But this isn't an ad for Xbox Cloud Streaming; I like the service, but you should check it out for yourself. Microsoft continues to push Xbox Cloud Gaming, which shows that the publisher is committed to putting its content wherever players can easily access it. This is especially great considering that "next gen" consoles remain hard to find even almost a year after launch. If Microsoft continues to refind the service, many users might feel that they don't need to upgrade to the new Series X/S platform, finding they're content to play the newest games on old hardware. Case in point, the cloud service is coming to Xbox Consoles this Holiday, letting users play select Xbox Series X games on their Xbox One

In a recent blog post, Microsoft said, "With the expansion of Xbox Cloud Gaming to gamers in Australia, Brazil, Japan and Mexico, we're now opening the opportunity for over one billion people in 26 countries across five continents to be able to play Xbox Game Pass games from the cloud on their phones, tablets and PCs. Since cloud gaming is powered by custom Xbox Series X consoles, that means these games are being played on an Xbox in the cloud, bringing faster load times and improved frame rates to the gameplay experience."

As Microsoft continues to put its resource into services like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass the services will only improve, creating a great alternative for those without a Series X/S. Still, we hope that Microsoft continues to work to solve the consoles shortage problem so that players who want to get their hands on the latest tech can do just that. Games are fun, and having more ways to play them is always better.

Store your games in style.

Not so long ago, we went hands-on with Book4Games' SNES cartridge storage cases – essentially a means of securely housing your loose games in fancy, book-style units. While we weren't totally convinced they were a must-have item, Book4Games clearly found some degree of success, as it's back with more designs – this time referencing the Metroid and Zelda series.

This new range is "dedicated to historical video game series" and sees Book4Games "working in partnership with professional illustrators." The illustrations which are found on these products come courtesy of Portuguese artist Luis Melo, who takes inspiration from retro games, sci-fi and pop culture.

And it's looking gooood.

Crytek has released a shiny new trailer for Crysis Remastered Trilogy on Switch ahead of the collection's 15th October launch, and it's all looking very slick indeed.

The Switch-specific trailer gives us a fresh look at the trilogy running on Nintendo's platform – remember that single-player campaigns from Crysis 1, Crysis 2, and Crysis 3 are all included. The footage on display is certainly looking impressive, so we can perhaps be hopeful that the two sequels will run just as well as the original does.

Oh, and don't worry about the resolution.

With Nintendo's Switch OLED console just around the corner, more and more of the things have been popping up in the wild. Just last week the world's first unboxing video appeared, followed shortly afterwards by the first comparison video, and now we have yet another look at the OLED sitting next to the original system.

This latest footage comes from YouTuber Kevin Kenson, who's somehow managed to get his hands on a retail version of the system a couple of weeks ahead of its official release. In it, we get to see how the OLED's screen really helps bright colours to 'pop' and those darker colours to stay truly dark – deep blacks have never looked so good on a Nintendo portable.

Both issues are back on Kickstarter.

There are video game magazines, and then there's A Profound Waste of Time. More of a tribute to the art of making games than anything else, this publication has run to two issues so far and has featured the likes of Toby Fox, Ashly Burch, Rami Ismail, Keita Takahashi, Tetsuya Mizuguchi and Jenny Jiao Hsia, discussing and dissecting games like Undertale, Shovel Knight, 2064: Read Only Memories, Katamari Damacy, Tetris Effect and more.

Created by London-based graphic designer Caspian Whistler, APWOT has leveraged Kickstarter to secure its funding, with issue one raising £39,000 and issue two £62,165. Now, due to the popular demand, both issues are getting a reprint – also via Kickstarter – and with 16 days of funding left on the clock, the campaign has already raised an impressive £89,590 (at the time of writing).

New World is still breaking gaming GPUs and it's not just Nvidia's RTX 3090

It seems like everyone is either currently playing New World or are stuck in long server queues to play Amazon Games' new MMO, with it now being the fifth-biggest Steam game of all time by concurrent player count. However, troubling new reports are emerging on the game's subreddit of it bricking players' GPUs despite the developer previously insisting that it is "safe to play" following similar reports that surfaced during the game's beta.

Previously, these issues seemed predominantly limited to Nvidia's best graphics card, the RTX 3090, with a large portion of the blame directed towards soldering issues on EVGA branded cards. However, there are now multiple accounts of the game killing not only RTX 3090s, but also RTX 3080 Tis, RTX 3080s, RTX 3060 Tis, and even RTX 3000 laptop GPUs. Both EVGA and Gigabyte components have, again, been highlighted as particularly vulnerable to being fried.

Amazon Games previously took steps to try and mitigate the issue during the beta through an fps limiter in the game's menu. These new reports, however, suggest the problem is far from resolved, and we've reached out to Amazon Games for further comment.

Eximius Season 2 adds even more depth to the FPS/RTS hybrid

If you've ever been playing a first-person shooter and suddenly had the urge to take a top-down view of the map and command some other forces for a minute, or if you've been enjoying a real-time strategy game and felt the desire to get onto the battlefield yourself, Eximius could be the game for you. And with the launch of season two, there has never been a better time to get involved.

For the uninitiated, Eximius is an FPS/RTS hybrid from indie developer Ammobox Studios, pitting two teams of five players against each other in large-scale battles on enormous maps, with the aim of having more victory points than your opponent by the end of the game or utterly demolishing their base. As a ground unit, you'll be able to choose your loadout before hopping into the action and blasting away anyone who comes at you.

But in a unique twist, one player on each team also acts as the commander, and can at any time during a match switch from their first-person view to a top-down look at the entire map. From here, they can spawn more units to join your ever-growing army, command these units across the battlefield, assign units to other player's' squads to give them additional firepower, and unlock new technologies from resources gathered in- game.

Modern war RTS game Wargame: Red Dragon is still getting DLC seven years later

Wargame: Red Dragon is an ambitious cold war strategy game set in an alternate modern warfare setting. Created by Eugen Systems, it was the final entry in a trio of RTS games before the studio moved on to create Steel Division and Steel Division 2 - two excellent WW2 war games that make use of the same design.

Seven years after release, it seems there's still plenty of interest in this game, however - it's just got a bradn-new piece of DLC that will introduce the South African Defence Force as a playable faction. The new army receives over 90 new units, 20 of which introduce brand new unit models. Red Dragon involves warfare across air, land, and sea, although the SADF doesn't get any naval units in this pack.

The South Africa Nation Pack is the most expensive single-nation expansion the game has received to date, but according to Eugen this is because this expansion "is the first in many years, with the number and quality of (new) models exceeding those featured in previous DLC." And "not only that," the developer explains, "the amount of work required for this expansion was substantial - game development is neither cheap nor straightforward, especially resuming work on a game as complex as Wargame: Red Dragon."

GTA Online's weekly update brings triple Land Race, Lamar Contact Mission rewards

It's Thursday, GTA Online fans, which means another weekly drop of content and updates to get stuck into - and the latest offering brings extra rewards across a whole lot of the multiplayer game's races. While we'll have to wait a few hours yet for Rockstar Games' official rundown of this week's update, fans have already been diving in to let us know what's new, so why wait?

Tez2 reports that this week brings triple the $GTA and RP rewards across GTA Online's Land Races - so, with that category reaching across a pretty extensive list of races, that means lot of opportunities to earn some extra in-game bucks and experience points over the next week. You'll also find triple the usual rewards on Lamar's Contact Missions while this update's live. Additionally, there are double rewards on Time Trials and the Offense Defense Adversary Mode this week.

Elsewhere, the latest GTA Online prize ride is the Vectre sports car, which you can pick up by placing in the top three spots in seven Pursuit Race Series races.
