Kotaku Thursday, December 1, 2022 10:20 PM Neon White was one of 2022's most pleasant surprised when it landed earlier this year, somehow managing to combine old-school shooters with speed-running, a card game and Persona's social links. Now, having been out since June on other platforms, PlayStation owners will finally be able to play the game. |
PCGamesN Friday, December 2, 2022 12:00 AM Want to save the trapped worker in The Callisto Protocol? Unless you're a complete and utter monster like the savage beasts constantly attacking you, this worker's request for help will likely resonate with a drive to preserve human life and rescue him from his predicament. In survival horror games, friendly faces are hard to come by but generally speaking, when you find them, they come in one of two camps: either they give you something helpful or accompany you for a short time. Thankfully, there are no escort missions here. So, naturally, you now have an additional incentive to save the trapped worker in The Callisto Protocol. PCGamesN Friday, December 2, 2022 12:00 AM The Callisto Protocol two-head brute is a bit of a tricky foe to deal with immediately after you turn the power back on and fight your way through a horde of enemies on the platform, even with copious amounts of ammo in crates around the place. This is the first time you'll encounter ol' two-head, and if you don't know the best way to deal with him, we're here to help. There aren't many proper boss fights in The Callisto Protocol, but this certainly feels like one, as the strong contender for one of the best horror games has you face off against a ginormous, two-headed beast. Taking him down will net you the 'Two Heads Are Better Than One' achievement/trophy, but even if you have all of the Callisto Protocol weapons, you'll likely struggle to take him down straight away. Here are some tips for defeating the Callisto Protocol two-head boss. PCGamesN Friday, December 2, 2022 12:00 AM Just how long is The Callisto Protocol? Striking Distance Studio's story-driven sci-fi horror is pretty relentless, and you can expect setbacks at every turn as you make your escape from Black Iron prison. As you stumble from one bloody confrontation to another in the game's many chapters, you may start to wonder, 'how long is The Callisto Protocol, anyway?' The Callisto Protocol spans eight chapters which will take you roughly between 12-14 hours to complete. If you're adamant about searching every dark corner on Callisto, you might find it takes you a tad longer – especially if you're dead-set on uncovering the mystery of The Callisto Protocol Kallipolis while you're at it. The Callisto Protocol is very linear, so subsequent playthroughs shouldn't take anywhere near as long… unless you're playing on Maximum Security difficulty, where additional deaths really begin to stack up in one of the best PC games of 2022. PCGamesN Friday, December 2, 2022 12:00 AM Our Callisto Protocol review begins on Callisto – where else? "Oh no," Jacob says, as a hulking mass of flesh, teeth, and tentacles lurches towards him, and I can't help but agree. His time in Black Iron prison has not been going smoothly; in fact, it's been one setback after another while making his escape through a horde of mutated prisoners, guards, and colonists. He's also undergone his fair share of grisly deaths along the way (sorry, Jacob) and my dwindling ammo suggests he's about to endure another. The Callisto Protocol is the first outing for Striking Distance Studios, and with Glen Schofield at the helm, it's got a lot of expectations riding on its shoulders. Admittedly, it's easy to fall into the mindset that you're playing Dead Space. The Callisto Protocol's certainly got the basics down: a third-person sci-fi action horror, complete with diegetic health bars and kinetic powers. However, it's by no means a simple clone, and there are even several homages to other games that'll spark joy in the twisted hearts of seasoned horror fans. A flooded area flirting with the threat of movement below the surface evokes Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and the spectrum of mutations includes a blind foe that tracks sound, emitting a series of distinctive clicks as it lurches through the dark. PCGamesN Friday, December 2, 2022 12:00 AM Are you wondering how to increase inventory space in The Callisto Protocol? If you've scavenged just about everything in the monster-infested space prison, chances are that you've quickly maxed out your storage space and can't take anything else because, to begin with, you're limited to six items at once. Item management is vital to your survival, as if you just have a bunch of sellable scraps, you won't have room for more bullets for your guns or health kits to heal particularly nasty wounds. To save yourself from backtracking to the last reforger to sell your recently acquired junk - such as energy converters, decoders, and even Callisto Protocol weapons schematics - an inventory upgrade is vital. The good news is that you can increase your inventory space in The Callisto Protocol, but it takes a while to get to that point in this contender for one of the best horror games. Here's everything you need to know about increasing your inventory size and, as a result, earning more credits for the best Callisto Protocol upgrades. PCGamesN Friday, December 2, 2022 12:00 AM Kitting yourself out with a full arsenal of The Callisto Protocol weapons gives you some welcome variety during combat as you fight your way through Black Iron prison. While some are simply handed to you during the story, others take the form of weapon schematics, and their locations can be easily overlooked. Thankfully, we've tracked the location of all The Callisto Protocol weapons so you can reach the Callisto Protocol final boss with all the firepower you need in one of the best horror games in 2022. Just like health injectors and battery packs, weapon schematics take up an inventory slot – at least until you get to a reforger that can print it, at which point the receiver appears in your arsenal rather than your items. It's also worth mentioning that the reforger won't do it for free, so remember to save up enough credits to print them. If you're hungry for Callisto Protocol's lore, this is the achievement for you. These secret rooms are also filled with useful supplies, including items that you can sell for The Callisto Protocol best upgrades – though you'll need to know where to find The Callisto Protocol weapons to make use of them. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, December 2, 2022 12:00 AM Sometimes when we get sent review code for a game, the PR will say that they'll be getting PC code later, but if we want we can have a console code so we can get a head start playing the game. There are a lot of reasons that might happen, but I'll be honest: it's never a great sign. I'm usually pretty chillaxed about the occasional wonky animation or frame stuttering when a game runs, but in this case The Callisto Protocol runs so badly on PC that if it were my child and the coach wasn't putting it in to play football - even as a sub in the last five minutes, you know, just to give it a go, like - I'd be saying, "Yeah, bench the sucker, I get it." The stuttering and slowing down whenever anything moves is especially problematic in a horror game where your survival depends on quickly dodge-reacting to sudden threats. So I can't, right now, recommend you get The Callisto Protocol on PC. If Striking Distance get it running properly? Eh. Maybe. |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Friday, December 2, 2022 3:12 AM Visually, The Callisto Protocol packs a full AAA presentation, so we had high hopes for its PC version. The game is gorgeous, with fantastic animations and character models that help sellS the world and story. But the PC version has some issues. As you may have heard, it's got a bit of a stuttering problem. And by "a bit", I mean that it stutters all the time. The stuttering is worse than I can ever remember seeing in a large release like this and it's no wonder the game has a 21% Mostly Negative on Steam due to it. For me, the stuttering is ever-present. From the opening cutscenes to my trek through the prison, The Callisto Protocol hitches all the time. Sometimes a little event will happen, the screen will freeze on a shot while the sound continues to play, and I'll regain control with an enemy hitting me. On top of that, the performance is all over the place. With a 3090 and 2600x, I would go from 120 fps in certain areas to 45 fps. It just varies. ... |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, December 1, 2022 9:38 PM It costs an awful lot to grab cars and upgrades as a street racer, doesn't it? But there's actually a very easy exploit that allows you to make money fast in Need for Speed Unbound. It takes a bit to get set up, but once you do the prerequisites, you can find yourself swimming in cash in no time, depending on if you have the patience to go through the motions again and again. So strap in, run from the cops, and get ready to make some crazy money (yah yah yah yah yah.) This exploit can be used to make money fast in Need for Speed Unbound in the day or night, but it'll be much easier to pull off at night. As you've likely noticed, escaping from a chase with the cops gets you some money depending on your heat level. Once you get up to heat level 5, escaping will net you $2,000, but this is often risky due to a large number of cars, helicopters, and spike strips you'll find obstructing you. You gain heat from doing events (some grant more than others), so... |
