PCGamesN Wednesday, March 27, 2024 6:55 PM ![]() For as massively popular as Five Nights at Freddy's has managed to remain over the decade since its first instalment launched, the horror game hasn't spawned all that many successful imitators. Aside from a few exceptions, like Poppy Playtime and My Friendly Neighborhood, far too few games have had players assume the role of workers just trying to get through an overnight shift without being mauled by bizarre creatures. Now, though, an upcoming indie called Zoochosis is on the way to fill this void, and we've just learned more about how it'll play thanks to a new video. Reiji Miyajima, the mangaka of Rent-a-Girlfriend, has posted his foray into AI art on his social media profile. Due to the controversies surrounding AI art, as well as the reception towards his manga, his art generated quite a bit of discussion online.
Here is the tweet in question:
In the tweet, Miyajima stated that he's been interested in AI recently so he let it learn from his own art. He then asked the AI program to create an illustration of Mizuhara, who is the main protagonist of Rent-a-Girlfriend. At the end of the message, he stated that he finds the end result quite cute.
Most of the immediate replies to his tweet are mixed. Some think that the result looks great, and that it's fine if he's feeding it his own art rather than another artist's. Others have stated that they prefer Miyajima's own drawings, as well as voiced their disagreement with AI as a whole. Some have wondered if AI art can ease the heavy burden on mangaka—especially when the industry has already hurt several popular artists.
Miyajima's Tweet comes very shortly after Love Hina mangaka and politician, Ken Akamatsu, talked about how he wants to implement some way to protect mangaka from AI under copyright law. This discussion was due to a manga artist finding out that people were training AI models with his art, even though he never gave them permission. A main point for supporters of Miyajima's Tweet is that he fed the machine his own art rather than other people's.
More information on how the law will work to regulate AI when it comes to creative work will come as the situation develops.

The Japanese version of Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage (Project Sekai) has get an upcoming collaboration event involving Touhou Project. The event will take place from early May 2024.
It was announced at 1:34:34 of the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage anniversary stream for its 3.5 years of service. There will be three tracks from Touhou Project, with beatMARIO arranging them, that'll appear in Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. They are "Last Brutal Sister Flandre S," "Bad Apple," and "Help me, ERINNNNNN!!." Next month's stream will reveal which unit will sing "Bad Apple."
During the stream, there were a few jokes as to whether or not kids these days are able to keep up with the Touhou Project information. This is likely due to the height of Touhou Project's popularity being over a decade ago. In saying that, though, some younger netizens did not even know of Vocaloids until Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. So even though there are still new Touhou Project games and such coming out, younger fans might not know of its history.
Touhou Project is a bullet hell shoot 'em up game that ZUN first released in 1997. Its popularity likely stems not only from the games themselves, but also because of its cast of cute girls. As for Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, it is a rhythm game in which human characters can access a world called SEKAI, which projects their true feelings and allows them to meet virtual Vocaloid singers.
Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage is readily available on mobile devices, and the Touhou Project collaboration event will take place in early May 2024.

A new Famitsu interview with Stellar Blade Director Kim Hyung-Tae and Technical Director Dong-Gi Lee revealed that development of the title could have been shorter if not for Eve's long hair. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
During the interview, Director Kim Hyung-Tae said that he wanted to take advantage of the capabilities of the PS5 to express the flow of movement of the costumes and hair. However, rendering Eve's long ponytail proved to be a big challenge. When asked about development impact for Stellar Blade when rendering such long hair compared to a shorter haircut, the director said that development might have been about a year shorter if they settled on a shorter hairstyle.
Dong-Gi Lee revealed that the development team would sometimes ask if they couldn't make Eve's hair a little shorter. Kim Hyung-Tae confirmed that he "folded a bit" to the request, and allowed the inclusion of an in-game option to make Eve's ponytail shorter.
In a different Famitsu interview that appeared in early February 2024, Kim Hyung-Tae confirmed the NieR Automata inspirations for Stellar Blade, as well as other titles that served as inspiration for the new action RPG.
Stellar Blade is coming to the PlayStation 5 on April 26, 2024. A demo will appear on March 29, 2024.
