New DLC for fantasy 4X Songs of Conquest features a freaky forest faction

It probably doesn't get shouted about enough, but there's no denying that Songs of Conquest is one of the best new strategy games of the last couple of years. Scaling up the kind of action you'd find in games like Heroes of Might and Magic, it has attracted a surprisingly large and loyal following - publisher Coffee Stain says over 600,000 units have been shifted now, which is mighty impressive. Songs of Conquest is keen to keep capitalizing on the interest and delivering new content to players, and after launching its first DLC at the end of last year, it's now revealed what's to come in its second expansion. The highlight is a brand new faction, which is basically an interconnected hive mind of sentient trees.

Epic forces Fortnite esports cheater to pay back prize money, post apology video

You can have all the anti-cheat software and deterrents in the world, but cheating in multiplayer games will never be totally eradicated. It's a sad fact of life. From causing chaos in public lobbies, to getting the upper hand in ranked games, it's a blight on some of the best competitive games around. Some will even look to break the rules at the highest level, attempting to gain unfair advantages during esports tournaments and competitive leagues. To send a message and show it's not messing around, Epic Games has just paraded a Fortnite Championship Series cheater on its social channel after taking legal action against them, getting them to pay back prize money, and post an apology video.

GTA 6 reportedly aiming to be a Roblox style UGC platform and metaverse

While GTA 5's single-player experience would've been enough to make it an enormous success, its GTA Online component and the role-playing servers that spawned from it have cemented it as one of the biggest games of all time. GTA 6 is undoubtedly going to try and replicate this with its own iteration of GTA Online, but when it comes to what innovations and changes it'll make to its highly successful formula, that's a mystery. Well, a new report may have given us a window into what to expect. Rockstar has reportedly been meeting with not only prominent GTA creators but those from the realms of Fortnite and Roblox too to discuss supporting more user-generated content to become a wider, metaverse-style platform.

     GPO codes February 2025

February 17, 2025: A new GPO code is in for the Valentine's update.

What are the new GPO codes? We've got the lot! Often topping the charts when it comes to anime-inspired Roblox adventures, Grand Piece Online codes are becoming increasingly rare, making them all the more valuable with each new update. They're a great way to keep ahead of the competition or, if you're new, make an immediate dent in the world. They're also good for getting secondary characters over the starting hurdles. But they expire fast.

Released in 2021, Grand Piece Online sees hundreds of thousands of eager Roblox pirates and marines flock to its shores every day. Inspired by the One Piece anime and manga, this one still closely competes with Blox Fruits codesKing Legacy codes, and Fruit Battlegrounds codes. They're some of the biggest, most well-known Pirate-faring adventures on the platform right now, and a great way to understand how this one looks to change things up.

New RTS game Broken Arrow feels like Company of Heroes but with Arma's realism

I found out, while researching this game, that the term 'Broken Arrow' is used when a nuclear weapon goes missing. More exciting, perhaps, is that there was a John Woo film of the same name released in the '90s featuring John Travolta and Christian Slater. The trailer is fantastic, even if the movie doesn't seem to be. This, I believe, has nothing to do with the RTS game Broken Arrow, but a man can dream.

Bethesda's giving you the chance to be an NPC in The Elder Scrolls 6

It's a hard thing to face, but let's face it together - The Elder Scrolls 6 is probably still a long way off. On the brighter side, we must be closer to the finish line than the starting blocks, given that it was revealed five and a half years ago at this point. Lord, I hope we are. I've been loosely optimistic that we'll hear more about TES 6 in 2025, and Bethesda has just (kinda) proved me right. Before you get too excited, no, it's not a new trailer, gameplay details, or even a vague Todd Howard quote. Preview: Squeakross Combines Nonograms With Interior Decorating

Thanks to Jupiter's various Picross games on Nintendo platforms, nonograms gained quite a bit of notoriety. The puzzles, which involve filling in spaces on a grid to reveal a picture, are essentially a puzzle staple due to the efforts of that developer and other creators. From my time spent with it, I feel like Squeakross: Home Squeak Home attempts to build on that by adding in elements to appeal to the growing cozy game audience.

Squeakross begins with the player creating a mouse avatar. This is the little friend whose home you'll be decorating, and the character will appear as something of a mascot as you play. The character creator is more robust than I expected, with different ear, eye, mouse, nose, tail, and fur options all available. Since you do see the lil' critter around quite a bit, I found it a novel touch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ8l3FaO3t4&ab_channel=Alblune

The puzzles start out very simple and small. You know it'll be some sort of decorative item, which might help once the design takes shape as a "clue" of sorts. But it's all really a fairly typical nonogram experience. A grid is presented in front of you on lined paper. It almost feels like building instructions. You fill in boxes that you know meet the criteria based on the numbers above and below for the line, with "cheese" showing up to highlight the spot. You can also tick off boxes that aren't going to be filled. It's possible to get a hint, to help you along.

Now, I was playing an early build. So things aren't finished, of course. However, I liked the incentive that came from going through a puzzle to get an item, then seeing it rendered in 3D in a mouse's house. Early items are incredibly basic, such as a plain wooden chair or a cardboard box. But as the size of the puzzles get past 10x10 grids and you get further into the game, there are some really elaborate items as rewards for sussing out the spots to mark. It seems cute!

Squeakross: Home Squeak Home seems like it could be shaping up into a totally fine puzzle game. The preview build features an admirable number of nonogram puzzles. The design portion is a cute way to essentially show off and make use of what you unlocked. It's cute and may motivate people who normally don't play through these types of puzzles or burn through them quickly to invest a little more time in it.

Squeakross: Home Squeak Home debuts on PCs in 2025.

Bandai Namco and Toei Animation have published the list of content they will reveal at Digimon Con 2025. One of the highlighted entries will be the revelation of new crossover merchandise between the Digimon and Godzilla franchises.

The Digimon - Godzilla crossover is listed under the Toy category, but further details on the merchandise are still very scarce as of mid-February 2025. It is yet to be known whether the crossover will simply pair Digimon with Kaiju or if there will be Digimon versions of the giant creatures, such as Godzillamon or Mothramon.

The crossover toy will be one of the seven topics covered at Digimon Con 2025. The game segment will have new details on Digimon Story: Time Stranger, which Bandai Namco revealed recently at the February 2025 State of Play. The remaining segments in Digimon Con 2025 will cover a special concert for the Music category, new information for Digimon comics, and goods or merchandise made specifically to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of Digimon Adventure 02 in 2025.

Digimon Con 2025 will run in Japan on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at noon JST. People living in the Americas will also be able to watch the show simultaneously live on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 7 PM PST or 10 PM EST.

Breakers in Hyper Light Breaker

Hyper Light Breaker is a 3D open-world co-op extraction rogue-lite, a significant departure from its 2D role-playing predecessor, Hyper Light Drifter. As my first venture into the world of Hyper Light, I was left unimpressed with the current state of Hyper Light Breaker, but I'm certainly intrigued to see where this game will end up by the time it leaves Early Access.

In Hyper Light Breaker, players are thrown into the Overgrowth, a procedurally generated world with five vibrant open biomes filled with enemies to hack, slash, and shoot. The goal of Breaker is to gather resources, gear, upgrades, and weapons to defeat bosses known as "Crowns." Eventually, defeating these bosses will open the way to the final boss, the Abyss King. However, the big kahuna himself isn't available to challenge and will arrive in a future update. You can brave each run alone or invite friends to join you, making things considerably more manageable.

Dying in the Overgrowth will send you back to The Cursed Outpost to purchase upgrades and catch your breath before attempting another run — provided you have at least one "Rez" left. Once you die four times and use up your Rez, a new Cycle begins and the Overgrowth resets, changing the layout, sites you've explored, and resurrecting any defeated Crowns. The good news is that you can extract anytime by traveling to a Telepad and surviving against a wave of enemies. Doing this returns you to base with all your resources and durability in-tact and is the key to success in Hyper Light Breaker. Coming from games where you extract after you've collected what you need, it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that you need to extract early and often to have a chance at survival. Especially considering that extracting resets the Threat meter, which increases the difficulty the more you accomplish in a single run. I believe this is one of the key reasons many players leaving Steam reviews appear to be abandoning Breaker early on.

Combat revolves around using your Blade to slice up and stagger enemies and your Rail (gun) to shoot them from afar. With Rails having limited batteries, you'll find yourself up close and personal in most fights, reserving your Rail only when necessary, with some exceptions in certain builds. Combat is simple but feels satisfying, evolving with mechanics like elemental damage the further you progress and understand the game. Throughout each run, you'll come across Holobytes, which are the defining factors of your build, providing passive bonuses that can wildly affect gameplay when synergized together. Unless you can't find Holobytes that work well with your build, that is. There are also Amps and deployable cooldown items such as grenades. Finally, you can also equip gear of different weights, affecting both your movement speed and defense. Dying removes one tick of durability from your gear, emphasizing the importance of extraction and survival.

The Cursed Outpost Hyper Light Breaker
Image via Heart Machine

Killing enemies (and breaking objects) rewards you with Blood, the primary currency of Hyper Light Breaker. Blood is used for just about everything, including collecting items, opening chests, replenishing MedKits, and purchasing from vendors. As it can be used both in the Overgrowth and back at base, you constantly need to decide how to use Blood effectively — Could this chest be worth it? Should I replenish at low health or risk an extraction? Do I have enough Blood to buy the upgrade I need back at base? It's an interesting concept and one of the few key features that justify Hyper Light Breaker as a rogue-lite.

Blood isn't the only currency. Far from it. There are various currencies with different purposes that are incredibly overwhelming at first but eventually sink in. Gold Rations, obtained when a new Cycle begins based on our performance, are the most sought-after currency, allowing you to upgrade vendors and unlock Sycoms, which essentially serve as your character's class. Cores, obtained through chests and difficult enemies, are also essential for purchasing permanent upgrades back at base. With all the currencies, items, difficulty, and lack of directions, Hyper Light Breaker is a game that takes a very long time to acclimatize to, especially when playing alone. To put it bluntly, Hyper Light Breaker's early game is painful to slog through, even when the mid and endgame hold considerable potential.

Inventory Hyper Light Breaker
Screenshot by Siliconera

My main problem with Hyper Light Breaker is how little guidance is present. Now, do I want a roguelite focusing on exploration to hold my hand? Absolutely not, but a game like this needs some naturally occurring sense of progression. Titles like Hades offered something fulfilling after each run, whether those were literal upgrades, knowledge of how well a build works, or a sense of improvement. In contrast, runs of Hyper Light Breaker often felt aimless and ultimately fruitless. I returned to base with some scraps of currency, sure, but rarely an idea of how to improve the next run nor the drive to try again.

Throwing a player into an open world and telling them to go wild can be fantastic, but there needs to be something to push the player in one direction or another. A castle in the skyline you want to explore, a colossal beast you're bursting to slay, a campfire with some ingredients scattered nearby. While visually interesting in areas, Hyper Light Breaker's procedurally generated worlds feel empty. Early runs consist of gliding around open fields and slashing enemies while periodically finding an item or Holobyte. This is made even worse by how dire healing is; relying on either using very limited MedKits or restoring a tiny sliver of health by riding around and picking flowers.

It's important to remember that Hyper Light Breaker is still in very Early Access, and Heart Machine has already made fantastic changes based on fan feedback. Breaker can be a blast once you've researched and poured time into it (and get lucky with drops), but more work needs to be poured into the early experience. This game has a robust skeleton that excites me for the future. However, unless you have the patience of a saint, I can't recommend Hyper Light Breaker just yet.

Hyper Light Breaker is available to play via Steam Early Access on PC.

Nissin Chili Tomato instant noodles ad featuring Guilty Gear XX Daigo Umehara commentary by Gama no Abura

Nissin has published a new game-themed Cup Noodle commercial ad. The video features the Chili Tomato Cup Noodle, and it is inspired by Gama no Abura's commentary on the Daigo Umehara match in Guilty Gear XX.

The original source of this video is the commentary on the match between Daigo Umehara and Shishamo during the Tougeki - Super Battle Opera 2003 tournament. The over-the-top delivery by Gama no Abura, who is also known as a fan of Umehara, elevated it to a famous meme in the Japanese gaming community.

Nissin is not the only company that has embraced the meme. Kadokawa also employed Gama no Abura to provide a parody commentary when it published the second volume of the Umehara Fighting Gamers manga in 2015. However, Nissin took a further step by also having Arc System Works produce an original clip that shows the Daigo Umehara-controlled Sol Badguy preparing the Cup Noodle.

The new commercial ad is available to watch right below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkE6WRPwKHE

This ad is based on the original Guilty Gear XX, which first appeared in PlayStation 2 and arcades in 2002. The version readily available on the PC gaming platform Steam is Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, which was the last version released in arcades in 2012. While the game has been available on Steam since 2015, it received a GGPO rollback netcode update in late 2020.

Sims inside of a hospital

There are plenty of community lots to visit if your Sims want to go out in The Sims 4. Depending on which expansions you own, there are nightclubs, libraries, parks, and anything else you can think of.

There's one location that's easy to stump even veteran players on how to get to, and that's the hospital included in Get To Work. Where is the hospital, and how do your Sims visit if they need a doctor? We're here to show you how.

Where to find the hospital in The Sims 4

There are only two ways your sims can visit a hospital in The Sims 4: they must either be in labor or work as a doctor. Sadly, the hospital is not a visitable lot you can choose from in the Magnolia Promenade world. You can't even choose to visit it when your Sim gets sick.

If your Sim works in the doctor career, they'll go to the hospital as their designated place of work, just like the lab for the science career track and the police station for the detective career track. If you follow your Sims to work that day, you'll go with them to the hospital to help them perform their daily tasks.

A Sim's option for having a baby at the hospital
Screenshot by Destructoid

Your Sim can still visit the hospital even if they don't work there. However, the only way the option will come up is if they are in the final stage of pregnancy, go into labor, and choose to have the baby at the hospital. When your pregnant Sim begins labor, click on them, and you can choose where you want to have the baby and who you want to bring with you.

Your Sims will be transported directly to the only hospital in the game.

How to edit the hospital lot in The Sims 4

Once you're at the hospital, you'll find that, unlike other community lots, you can't edit it in Build or Buy Mode. To edit the lot, bring up the cheat console by hitting Shift + Ctrl + C, type 'testingcheats on', hit enter, and then type 'bb.enablefreebuild'. It's one of the best cheats for The Sims 4.

Now, you can switch from Live Mode to Build or Buy and edit the hospital to your heart's content.

However, be aware that certain items are needed for the hospital to function properly during your career. Don't delete any of the medical equipment or front desk, or if you do delete them, make sure to replace them.

Unfortunately, you cannot set a lot type as hospital when building on other lots, so you're stuck with the one in the game already. This hospital is the only one the game will recognize, so don't make it into another lot type, either.

Angry Video Game Nerd 8bit

The team behind the upcoming 2D side-scrolling platformer Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit realized it would be attending various conventions over the coming months and put together a mobile version of the iconic 'nerd room' from the upcoming game. It's a cool nod to the retro vibe of AVGN 8-bit, but it also reminded me just how much I miss my old gaming wall.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSt39ZymjNU

Born in 1989, my gaming wall wasn't nearly as retro as the one created by the teams at Mega Cat Studios and Retroware. For better or worse—let's be real, better—the 70s-style wood paneling was already gone before I started my own wall, but other than that it was very similar. For me, it started as a shelf to hold my Sega Genesis games and VHS tapes before expanding to include the few Sega Saturn games I had, a ton of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, and a handful of Sega Dreamcast and Gamecube games. The different sizes of cases always presented a challenge that at the time was annoying, but now I would be thrilled to have to work out.

By the time the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 rolled around, things were starting to move in the digital direction. I remember thinking, "There is no way I'll ever go digital! I love having my physical goodies!" Man, times have changed. I'm in a completely different house now, but there is no gaming wall. The few physical games I have sit on a simple stand near my consoles, though it's hardly enough to make a wall out of even if I wanted to.

To build the Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit nerd room, Retroware took 60 high-resolution photos of the iconic wall of games and printed them out, measuring each one to make them accurate to the actual set. In the end, the centerpiece wall is two 4-foot segments combined to create the 8-foot wall with that 70s-style wood paneling.

I always wanted to recreate the iconic Nerd Room just for the hell of it, and this ended up being the perfect excuse. Plus, our team's got a bunch of random skills—carpentry, painting, logistics, printing—you know, stuff we don't really get to use when making indie games. So it was fun (and cathartic) to work those hard-skill muscles a bit. The fans at the expo were really into it, too. We had just announced the game right before MAGFest, so a lot of AVGN fans didn't know that it existed yet. Then they'd walk into the expo and boom—there's a full-on, free-standing Nerd Room right in front of them.

- Justin Silverman, Creative Director at Retroware

How about you? Do you still have an epic gaming wall? If so, feel free to brag about it and even post a picture below for the rest of us to enjoy!

Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit is currently in development for NES(yes, that NES), PC, and all modern consoles.

A player shows off their caught Fangborn Gar

There's nothing like a good day of fishing, and if you can't actually head out on a boat, you can always play Fisch on Roblox. This fishing simulator has all the best parts of the act, from using the right bait to reeling in rare fish.

Of course, not all fish will be easy to find. One that can stump players if they don't know where to look is the Fangborn Gar, an Unusual fish found in only one place. We're here to tell you where it is.

Where to find Fangborn Gar in Fisch

The Fangborn Gar can only be found in the Vertigo, the undersea cave commonly called The Great Abyss. You can access this glowing cavern by heading through the Strange Whirlpools that appear.

Strange Whirlpools spawn randomly throughout the world, typically in the ocean around some of the major islands like Moosewood and Roslit Bay. You can spot them easily since they form a normal whirlpool and shoot water out into the sky.

A player approaching a Strange Whirlpool in the ocean
Screenshot by Destructoid

You'll get a notification on screen when a Strange Whirlpool has spawned, and they last around 15 minutes in-game. This means you'll have enough time to find the whirlpool and jump in.

Once you've entered the Vertigo, there are only three ways out. You'll need to either leave the game, die, or use a Conception Conch. If you're unwilling to do this, you might want to put catching this fish off for a bit.

How to get a Fangborn Gar in Fisch

Once you're in the Vertigo, any fishing spot can be used to catch the Fangborn Gar. Luckily, this fish isn't particularly rare, so it shouldn't take one to snag one on your lure. However, certain conditions make it easier.

For bait, this fish prefers a Fish Head, which you can obtain from Bait Crates and Quality Bait Crates. The Fangborn Gar is also more likely to appear in foggy weather conditions than others. However, they can still spawn in others.

This Gar also has no preference for the time of day or the season, so as long as you're in the right spot, you will catch one quickly.

Once you've got it hooked, it will move pretty slowly across the fishing bar, so you won't need to worry about it thrashing around like rarer catches. Keep it steady, and you'll reel one in in no time.

Since it's merely an Unusual-class rarity fish, you won't make much by selling it — around 4 C$ per KG. This catch is more for the personal glory of filling out the bestiary.

BitLife Valentine's Day scavenger hunt

For the first time in BitLife's history, two scavenger hunts have appeared in the same month. From now until February 28, 2025, the Valentine's Day Scavenger Hunt is ongoing, with ten love-themed objectives for you to complete. While some are quick and simple, others are unexpectedly challenging.

BitLife Valentine's Day scavenger hunt guide

BitLife's Valentine's Day scavenger hunt has 10 romance-themed objectives represented by candy hearts. As usual, you'll find hints to help you solve each task. Otherwise, it's all about figuring out each riddle, completing all ten heart objectives, and claiming the final prize. Below is a list of every candy heart and their respective task:

Candy Heart Answer
Baby Gorgeous Have a baby
Baby Got Back Get a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift)
Here's My Tweeter Sign up for Twitter
I <3 U Get Married
Last Year's Model Hook up with an ex
Little Piggies Post foot content on OnlyFans
Love Shack Buy a house
Master Baker Become a baker
Pumpkin Eater Cheat on someone
Three's Company Have a threesome

Thankfully, many of these candy heart tasks are activities you perform with your BitLife characters in almost every playthrough. Nonetheless, a few are tricky to complete, even if you're an experienced player. Here's how to finish each candy heart during the Valentine's Day scavenger hunt.

Baby Gorgeous

Starting off BitLife's Valentine's Day scavenger hunt is the Baby Gorgeous Candy Heart, which requires you to have a baby. If you participated in the previous Lunar New Year scavenger hunt, you might recognize this same task from the Aqua Lantern.

Fortunately, the process is the same as last time. All you need to do is find a romantic partner through random encounters or the Love under Activities. Under the love category, you can date someone before pursuing the baby-making process or hook up with someone. Using the Golden Pacifier will make this even easier, but it isn't required.

Once you have a child with either a romantic partner or a random encounter, you'll obtain the Baby Gorgeous Candy Heart and be well on your way to getting a few other quick ones.

Baby Got Back

BitLife plastic surgery menu
Screenshot by Destructoid

Next on the list is the Baby Got Back heart by getting a Brazilian butt lift. For this one, you'll need a bit of money and luck, as it requires getting plastic surgery. You can get a BBL by heading into Activities, Plastic Surgery, and selecting Brazilian butt lift.

Once you pick the option, you'll get to choose a doctor before paying its cost. Going for someone with a higher reputation raises your odds of having a successful surgery but will usually increase the price slightly. Typically, you'll have to fork out around $10,000, but it's worth it for the candy heart. Once you get a successful BBL, you'll obtain your next candy heart and gain some looks stats if they were previously low.

Here's My Tweeter

The Here's My Tweeter candy heart is the simplest in this entire scavenger hunt. All you have to do is age up your character until they're old enough to make a social media account before heading into Assets, Social Media, and Twitter. Sign up for an account to receive the heart, bringing you to three of the ten you need to finish this event.

I 'Heart' U

Getting married during the BitLife Lunar New Year event
Screenshot by Destructoid

Remember the Lunar New Year event I mentioned earlier? Much like that, the Valentine's Day scavenger hunt requires you to marry someone to get the "I <3 you" candy heart. For a quick refresher, doing this requires romancing someone through random encounters or the Love menu.

Once you've dated someone for a while, you can buy a wedding ring, propose, and have a wedding to get the heart. Details of your marriage, like marrying royalty or a commoner, signing a prenup, or divorcing later, don't matter too much as long as you have your wedding and officially become the husband or wife of someone.

Last Year's Model

Taking a complete turn from the previous task is the Last Year's Model candy heart, requiring you to have a special night with an ex. This works on both flings you've had one-night stands with and previous romantic partners you broke up with. You can even resort to a divorce if you'd like.

Once you have an ex, head into Relationships, Exes, and choose whoever you'd like before raising your relationship stats with them. The easiest way to do this is to gift them Bitizenship, but giving them some space and having casual chitchats will also help. Once they warm up to you again, ask to hook up to receive this next candy heart.

Little Piggies

BitLife social media options
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Little Piggies candy heart involves social media again. This time, though, you'll need to make an in-game OnlyFans page before showing foot-related content. Like the Here's My Tweeter heart, you can find this app by heading into the social media menu before selecting and signing up for the BitLife version of OF. From here, you can head into its menu and post a foot video to get the next heart.

Love Shack

Next is the most expensive candy heart of the Valentine's Day scavenger hunt, Love Shack. You'll need to buy a house for this one, which you can do by heading into Assets, Shopping, and any real estate brokers. To save money, you can buy the cheapest option before selling it later or opt for a more expensive one if that's more your style. Either way, buying a house will reward you with another candy heart.

Master Baker

BitLife baker job
Screenshot by Destructoid

When solving riddles, the Master Baker candy heart is one of the easiest, with your goal being right in its name. The real challenge is actually becoming a baker, as this is mostly luck-based. Fortunately, it's surprisingly easy once you know what to look for.

To become a baker, head into your full-time job list and scroll through until you see a baker option with a croissant next to its name. You may have to age up a few times or close and reopen the BitLife app to find it. Landing this job will get you your next candy heart, bringing you one step closer to finishing the scavenger hunt.

Pumpkin Eater

Are you familiar with the phrase "Cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater"? Finishing this one requires cheating on someone, which you can do by, well, getting into a romantic relationship before having a special night of fun with someone else. If you've already completed the I Heart You candy heart, you can knock out this one right after by heading into the Love menu and hooking up with a random BitLife NPC. Doing this will give you the Pumpkin Eater candy heart, even if it also leaves some conflicting feelings about what deed we've just committed.

Three's Company

The last task of the Valentine's Day scavenger hunt is the Three's Company candy heart, which is all about having nights of fun with three people. There are two parts to this: being in a romantic relationship and getting your partner to agree. Like before, you'll have to find a romantic partner, with marriage completely optional. Once you're with someone, head back into the love menu before picking Threesome.

If the offer works, you'll find a screen telling you that you can engage in this. Agree to the arrangement to get the Three's Company candy heart and wrap up BitLife's Valentine's Day scavenger hunt.

Looking for the best RPGs like Avowed? If you're eagerly anticipating Obsidian Entertainment's next release, you may be on the hunt for an interim game to quench your thirst.

As Avowed's release time encroaches ever-nearer in what is shaping into a fantastic February release schedule, here are a few RPGs to sink your teeth into beforehand. These have been chosen for a variety of factors like setting, combat mechanics, story-driven choices, companions, map size and more. Take a look and delve into your next adventure.

7. The Outer Words

Image of the player from the official Outer Worlds theatrical trailer.
Image via Obsidian Entertainment

As another Obsidian Entertainment RPG, it may be obvious why The Outer Worlds has made this list. It is essentially the sci-fi counterpart to Avowed. It uses the same color palette, companion mechanics, political factions and map scale (a collection of open-world hubs rather than one entire map to explore).

If you like sci-fi as much as fantasy, The Outer Worlds does a fantastic job of scratching the itch of adventure, whilst introducing a touch of cowboy frontier vibes to space. In the game, you play as 'The Stranger' a prospective colonist whose ship faltered and landed at its destination 50 years too late. With a ship full of frozen colonists to thaw out and corporate greed preventing you from doing so easily, the game offers brave and at times, humorous opinions on capitalism.

6. Dragon's Dogma 2

Promotional Dragon's Dogma 2 image of a dragon spitting fire at soldiers.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is a curious RPG that admittedly took me a fair few hours to warm to at first but soon entered my good graces. It has a traditional fantasy medieval setting but also includes creatures from various mythologies. Dragon's Dogma 2 doesn't explain its system mechanics, there is no fast travel and enemy encounters in the wild can be grueling. Once you surpass the learning curve, however, you'll find a rich world with memorable bosses and humorous sidekicks. Unfortunately, the main storyline is somewhat forgettable but that isn't the real point of the game. The most fun I had with the game came from the Pawn system and the sprinkling of party banter as I traveled (which is good because you'll do a lot of traveling in this game).

Often you'll recruit wandering Pawns (companions) either generated by the game or by other players. They'll make observations, fight your enemies and usually get themselves into trouble. You can either re-hire them once their prerequisites are met or let them go back into the wild. I found that Dragon's Dogma 2 is much more enjoyable once you forge your own stories within the world.

5. Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Dragon Age: The Veilguard promotional image of Rook, Davrin and Bellara.
Image via BioWare

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the epitome of 'action RPG.' Like Avowed, the combat is fast-paced and interjected with different weapons, abilities or spells depending on your class. Taking a step away from its earlier party-based tactician modes, you now have a simple wheel to issue commands to companions during combat. As such, it's simplified and, in my opinion, stronger for it.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard prioritizes story over everything else. The consequences of player decisions may seem shallow at first, but they'll soon explode in your face within a few hours. If the biggest draw to an RPG for you is character development, then the entire Dragon Age franchise is worth your time. Whilst it's not strictly imperative that you play the previous titles before Veilguard, you'll certainly get more from the lore and settings if you do. Additionally, if you're sad at the lack of romance in Avowed, Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have you blushing at your screen. That is, after hours and hours of flirting. Seriously, this game makes you work for it.

4. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim: The Dragonborn casually walking through Riverwood.
Image via Bethesda

I can't speak about Avowed without drawing the obvious comparisons to Skyrim. Both games allow you to flit between spells and melee and both take place on a contained island, struggling to maintain its independence from the political mechanisms of the greater world.

If, by some miracle, you have reached adulthood without playing Skyrim yet, then let me first congratulate you for bravely living life away from the herd. Now play it anyway. Look, I know it's cool to avoid something overtly popular (yes, Game of Thrones was overrated by the end), but sometimes things are hyped because they really are that good.

In Skyrim, you're treated to an epic fantasy adventure where you play as the Dragonborn, a person innately gifted with the language of dragons (which is handy because an ancient dragon is harassing the lands). You will be treated to traditional fantasy tropes, skills, settings and so many side quests that you won't have a life for the next hundred hours. The faction storylines are engaging and memorable. Even if you try your very best not to be a fan of Skyrim, you will, too, succumb to the fandom that gets us all in the end.

3. Fallout: New Vegas

Promotional image of the Courier overlooking the New Vegas Strip in Fallout: New Vegas.
Image via Obsidian Entertainment

Although Fallout: New Vegas isn't set within a fantasy backdrop, it is an RPG by Obsidian Entertainment and is in fact, one of the best RPGs of all time. Set in post-nuclear war America, Fallout: New Vegas has one of the coldest openings in gaming history. You are 'The Courier', your package has been stolen and you've just been shot in the head by a smooth-talking man in a checkered suit.

After surviving, you're set loose upon the Mojave desert with nothing but your Pip-Boy and the quest for answers. This will lead you through the heart of several warring factions grasping for power. The choice of who will succeed over the others will rest in your hands and there is no clear 'good' option. As with other Fallout games, you can be as virtuous or evil as you like, measuring your actions on a Karma system. Although the setting has a grimness expected of a post-apocalypse, everything in Fallout: New Vegas is underlined with a humorous flair that has become synonymous with Obsidian titles.

2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Geralt in front of a burning building in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Image via CD Projekt RED

The Witcher series is a staple within the RPG genre, and for good reason. Whilst all three titles are worth your time, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is arguably the best RPG I've ever played. The downside is that you'll need about two months free to play it from start to finish – and that's just for the minigame, Gwent.

You play as the White Wolf, Geralt of Rivia, in search of his missing ward Ciri. His search for her will take you all over the continent, and you'll encounter friends and foes as you pick up contracts along the way. As a Witcher, it is your job to fight monsters and protect the suffering village folk – for a price. Or, like me, you can side with the monsters most of the time.
Like Avowed, in The Witcher 3, you are treated as an outsider for what you are despite almost everyone you encounter needing your help. There is a lot to love about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The depth of its lore and world-building can be intimidating at first, but once you're hooked, it will have you for life.

1. Baldur's Gate 3

Promotional Baldur's Gate 3 image of the party on top of a cliff.
Image via Larian Studios

I know we're all sick of the hype around Baldur's Gate 3, but it seems we can't stop talking about the game, no matter how hard we try. Set within the Forgotten Realms universe of Dungeons and Dragons and using many of the same rules, the game starts with you crash-landing on a beach after some wacky experiments involving tadpoles have been conducted on you and your destined travel companions. What follows is hundreds of hours of quests, exploration and loot-grabbing in a world that is rich with lore and flavor. If you love to test the waters of being nefarious in RPGs, you'll be happy. In Baldur's Gate 3, you can go as close to world-ending evil as possible or be a paragon of virtue. You can also flirt mercilessly with your companions once they approve highly enough of your actions.

Baldur's Gate 3 provides the typical high stakes of a modern RPG but also takes care to include some simply ludicrous moments. Unfortunately, its success is also its downfall: Once you play it, BG3 will become the benchmark for which you hold all other RPGs. As such, this is one game that may require your sole focus after you've played Avowed.

Now, you should be free to explore some quality RPGs that share certain qualities with Avowed. To make sure you're all set to play, check out our guide to the Avowed minimum and recommended requirements and how that may impact your ability to secure 60 fps.

The Godlike in a cutscene from the Ancient Memory found in Shatterscarp in Avowed

One of the bits of side content you can do in Avowed is tracking down the 'Ancient Memory' hiding away in each region. Not only do these provide a little more background and contextual lore to the Godlike, you'll also get some very useful Godlike abilities in the process. Plus, who doesn't enjoy going on a bit of a scavenger hunt? Well, maybe you if you're on this guide, so to save you some time, here's the Voice's memory location in Shatterscarp.

Shatterscarp ancient memory location in Avowed

The Voice's memory can be found at the very top of the 'Twin Offerings Overlook' in the southeast corner of the map, just west of the Sand Sea Oasis. I've marked the exact location in the screenshot below.

The map location of The Voice's ancient memory in the Shatterscarp region in Avowed

The 'Twin Offerings Outlook' is also where you'll go for the Xaurip Chief Grithin bounty, and getting this memory is best done immediately after defeating Grithin. That's because it's a bit of a trek up to the top, but if you've not got up there yet, look for the red wooden ramp on the east side of the mountain.

The wooden ramp leading you to the ancient memory at the top of Twin Offerings Outlook in Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

You'll now need to follow this wooden ramp as it weaves its way up to the top of the outlook. At times, jumps can come right after you turn corners, so take it slow the first time up to avoid falling to your death. Eventually, you'll climb a ledge and face off against Chieftain Grithin. Watch out as his melee attack can send you flying backward and, if you're not careful, off the edge of the cliff and to your death (speaking from experience here!).

Once you've defeated Grithin in the Xaurip camp right toward the top of the outlook, you should see another ledge you can climb up. Before you go any further, you should see a little shrine right in front of you with some fish and other foods laid out. Alongside these, is the Hel's Tongue, a two-handed, exceptional quality, unique sword.

The Hel's Tongue weapon that can be found at the top of Twin Offerings Outlook in Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

Follow this path and you'll eventually reach the summit of the outlook with the 'Ancient Memory' under a fancy-looking archway right on the edge, shown in the screenshot below. Walk on over to it and press X and you'll begin the cutscene where you can 'fill in the gaps' when prompted by The Voice.

After learning more of the story, you'll be rewarded with another Godlike Ability. For me, it was the 'Remembrance of Nimanna' ability, which increases your Maximum Stamina by 10%.

That's everything you need to know to track down the Voice's memory in the Shatterscarp region. We've also got guides on the Voice's memory location in Dawnshore, and where to find the Cartographers in Dawnshore and Emerald Stair.

The Leviathan Heart in Avowed

When you reach Shatterscarp and make your way to the town of Thirdborn, you'll encounter Chiko who is worried about their Uncle Keipo. He won't talk to anyone but hopes that a visit from a hero such as yourself may turn things around. After a quick conversation, Keipo requests you track down a Leviathan Heart from a temple where he set a bunch of different traps, so he can see it one last time before old age gets the better of him. But should you give Keipo the Leviathan Heart in Avowed?

What happens if you give Keipo the Leviathan Heart in Avowed?

Keipo will thank you for giving him the chance to kill himself before the Dreamscourge takes over and he risks killing Chiko and the other residents of Thirdborn. He'll say that Chiko will mourn him, but you've saved them a greater pain than they will ever know.

Keipo thanking the player for giving him the Leviathan Heart in Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

However, Chiko will be incredibly angry with you. They'll tell you they hope "the sands swallow you and you never come back to Thirdborn again!" So basically, not very well.

The positive is that Keipo will give you Umpara's Spear, a unique weapon of exceptional quality.

The Umpara's Spear stats in the inventory screen in Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

I've listed the stats and the perks that it had for me below:

  • Physical Damage: 88
  • Stun: 84
  • Stamina Cost: 13
  • Critical Hit Chance: 6%
  • Enchantment 1: Deadly Mechanism - Power Attacks launch a poison dart.
  • Enchantment 2: Strike the Heart - Critical Hit Damage +25%

What happens if you don't give Keipo the Leviathan Heart?

This was the option I went for. I chose to tell Keipo that I knew why he wanted the Leviathan Heart and his intentions to use it as a poison. I refused to give him the Leviathan Heart because I didn't want to play a part in his death.

He'll tell you that "this path can only end badly for Chiko. Maybe the rest of Thirdborn, too. You may have doomed us all!"

Keipo telling the player he may have doomed all of Thirdborn for not giving him the Leviathan Heart in Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

After heading outside, you'll tell Chiko you didn't give him the Leviathan Heart. I offered to hold onto it and take it far away to keep it safe, to which they agreed. I also then told them that their Uncle Keipo wasn't just sick, he had the Dreamscourge and that he wanted to die before he turned.

Keipo doesn't want to accept it and thinks there must be a way to stop it even if it were possible. With a 'Resolve' check, I told them there wasn't and we have to respect his choice, no matter how we feel about it. This puts Chiko in a predicament as they don't want him to suffer, but also don't want him to have the Leviathan Heart.

After this, Chiko will tell you to take Keipo's armor. It was meant for them but they're not using it. This includes the following gear, with the following stats and enchantments:

  • Stormdancer's Scale

    • Medium Armor, Unique, Superb Quality
    • Damage Reduction: 15%
    • Additional Damage Reduction: 47
    • Maximum Stamina: -25
    • Maximum Essence: -35
    • Sheltering Gale: 5% chance to avoid ranged damage
    • Shock-Proofed: +30% resistance to Shock Accumulation

  • Stormdancer's Gloves

    • +10% Ability Cast Speed
    • Thundering Blows: Power Attacks deal +5% bonus Shock Damage

  • Stormdancer's Boots

    • -10% incoming Fire, Frost, and Shock Damage
    • Static Charge: +10% Shock Damage for 10 seconds after dodging

  • Stormdancer's Ring

    • +10% Shock Damage

Stormdancer's Scale armor stats in the inventory screen of Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

Not only do you get to avoid playing a part in someone's death, but you also quite a lot of powerful gear.

Which decision gives you the best outcome in the Heart of Valor side quest?

From playing through both outcomes, I'd highly recommend not giving Keipo the Leviathan Heart in Avowed. While you might feel like you're morally obligated to let him end his life before the Dreamscourge takes hold of him, the rewards you get from refusing to give him the Leviathan Heart and telling Chiko that their uncle has the deadly plague and wanted to put himself out of his misery, saving the town from a potential outbreak, are far better.

Plus, this way, you'll allow Chiko to spend as much time with Keipo before he passes away. It might not be as pleasant a way to go out, but if you're just in it for the physical rewards, this is the option to choose.

If you feel more morally obliged to let Keipo go out on his terms, then feel free to give him the Leviathan Heart. His spear is still pretty viable at this stage in the game, but it didn't work for my playstyle.

I will say, however, that Avowed's side quests can have consequences that aren't immediately apparent. With Keipo also saying you might have doomed all of Thirdborn, I can't help but feel there's a chance not giving him the Leviathan Heart might come to haunt you further down the line.

If there are any long-term consequences I encounter from having refused to give Keipo the Leviathan Heart, I'll update this article to let you know.

That's everything you need to know on the Leviathan Heart decision in the Heart of Valor side quest in Avowed. Looking for more side quest advice? We've got you covered with guides on whether to confront the smugglers or report the refugees, the Dawntreader side quest decision, and all medallion locations for the Lost Suoles quest.
