If you played Civilization 7 during release week and decided it wasn't the sequel that you were expecting, now might be the time to give it a second try. The user interface, progression, and certain behaviors of enemy rulers have all been criticized by the Civ 7 community; the response to Firaxis's 4X follow-up has in fact been so mixed that Civilization 6, despite being eight years old, now regularly has a larger number of players on Steam. But alongside the Crossroads of the World DLC, Firaxis has just shipped the first major Civilization 7 update, and it should take the edge off some of the biggest issues so far.

I've jumped straight into Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced on PC, and the difference in performance and image quality is huge. GTA V is finally where it needs to be for PC players after waiting years for this update to arrive.      Forget foldable phones, Samsung just made a hinged Steam Deck competitor

Samsung is no stranger to foldable screen tech, with it being the first company to really push the idea of foldable phones with its Samsung Galaxy Fold and Samsung Galaxy Flip phones. However, now the company has taken the only logical next step and demoed a new concept, showing off a gaming handheld that can do the same screen-bending trick to halve its footprint, making for an even more portable gaming device.

Samsung doesn't currently make a device that would compete with the likes of the Steam Deck OLED and Asus ROG Ally X for a spot on our best handheld gaming PC guide. However, it has a long pedigree in producing both portable devices such as some of the best foldable phones, as well as tablets, and it makes Windows laptops too. A gaming handheld is only a small step away from much of its regular hardware output.

Complete Monster Hunter Wilds quest and main mission list

What are the Monster Hunter Wilds quests? There are a fair few ways to hunt monsters in Capcom's RPG juggernaut. You can find the monster you want to slay out in the wild, hunt it down during an optional quest, or stumble upon it during a main story mission. As such, keeping track of all these methods can be rather difficult, and if you're a completionist, you'll want to know that you've done everything the game has to offer.

Monster Hunter Wilds offers main story chapters with different sub-chapters within them, and within those are assignments to hunt certain monsters that become optional quests later on. Yes, that's almost as confusing as remembering the names of all the Monster Hunter Wilds monsters or deciding which Monster Hunter Wilds weapon to main. Thankfully, we've created a complete list of every main mission, side quest, and assignment so you can keep on top of your to-do list.

WWE 2K25 system requirements are so low they don't even need an RTX GPU

What are the WWE 2K25 system requirements? While 2K is set to innovate when it comes to gameplay for its WWE license this year, introducing The Island as a new shared-world game mode, the game's PC demands have stagnated, meaning there might be little in the way of technological advancements coming.

You won't need the best graphics card to play WWE 2K25 on PC, and if you were able to play last year's game with decent performance, you're already set for this year. Very few changes have been made, but you are going to need some more RAM if your gaming PC is still stuck at 8GB. This should bode well for the Steam Deck too, which was able to run WWE 2K24 without much compromise.

While gamers have been struggling to get their hands on a new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 GPU, it looks as though you'll have a much easier time buying a new AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT when it's released. According to the latest whispers, stock of the new 9070 cards is significantly better than any of the RTX 5000 cards.

The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT release date is coming very soon, and with a price of $599 it looks set to offer some serious competition for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070, with more VRAM and some big numbers in the specs list. Perhaps more importantly in a world where Nvidia commands a massive share of the GPU market and brand recognition, though, AMD could win this battle simply by having enough stock of its new graphics cards to go round.

Best Monster Hunter Wilds armor and list of all armor sets

What is the best Monster Hunter Wilds armor? It might be a little grotesque, but it wouldn't be Monster Hunter if you didn't craft armor from the parts of monsters you defeat. This colorful wardrobe of scales, leather, and fur is as important to your build as your chosen weapon, and equipping any old bit of kit only gets you so far.

Most armor sets in Monster Hunter Wilds are only unlocked after you defeat the MH Wilds monster that drops the materials required to craft them. A full set comprises five pieces, each with individual stat bonuses and MH Wilds skills, and the sheer amount on offer can make finding the best armor a rather tall task.      Where to buy 5090 - Nvidia RTX 5090 stock for March 4

If you still need to know where to buy the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, we have you covered. In this guide, you'll find links to online retailers in various countries that have either stock notifications, pre-orders, or actual stock available and we update it every day, to see if new stock has arrived anywhere. If you want to grab the most hotly demanded graphics card of the moment, you're in exactly the right place.

With the new Nvidia RTX 5090 proving to be the undisputed new best graphics card in terms of raw power, demand for this GPU is currently huge. What's more, it's currently only dropping in very limited numbers, so you'll have to be quick on the draw to grab one in the coming months, especially if you don't want to pay inflated prices from scalpers on the likes of Ebay.

With an official price of $1,999 / $4,449 CAD / £1,939 / AU$4,039 for the Founders Edition card, that's the price you should be hoping to pay for Nvidia's own impressively slim card design. Other cards from the likes of Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, and Zotac demand more, especially if they're overclocked, but that's the ballpark figure you should expect to pay. The RTX 5090 release date was Thursday, January 30, at 9am ET / 6am PT / 2pm GMT, with stock becoming available then, although most retailers are out of stock right now. Some stores are operating a "notify me" service, so you can sign up to know when more stock becomes available, so if you can't find the card you want you might be able to get a notification for when more arrives.

How do you get Monster Hunter Wilds Hunter Symbols? MH Wilds doesn't make it very clear that these hunts are available to you, but Hunter Symbols are a unique material used for crafting weapons and armor. They appear as a certificate in your inventory, as proof that you've hunted a Tempered monster.

Hunter Symbols in Monster Hunter Wilds can be earned by hunting Tempered monsters of varying difficulty. Five-star Tempered monsters drop Hunter Symbol I; six-star Tempered monsters drop Hunter Symbol II; and seven- or eight-star Tempered monsters drop Hunter Symbol III. The rarity of gear you're crafting dictates which Hunter Symbol you need, so hunting these powerful beasts is essential to craft the best equipment.

What are the best Minecraft shaders? With shaders, you can instantly level up the look of your Minecraft world - even without an RTX graphics card. But with so many downloadable mods for the sandbox game, if you're unsure, let's start with what Minecraft shaders are.

One of the best PC games of all time and the ongoing king of sandbox games, Minecraft has incredible replayability, keeping fans and newbies coming to the game time after time. While the vanilla game still gets regular updates, Minecraft mods, texture packs, resource packs, and shaders can completely reinvent the game, affecting its overall look. For example, mods can completely alter gameplay, and Minecraft texture packs and resource packs change the appearance of existing blocks and add new blocks, respectively. Sid Meier's Civilization 7 has a new Sid Meier's game update that makes changes to Sid Meier's user interface, leader AI, Age mechanics, Mementos and naval unit handling. Developers Firaxis have also stirred in a free bonus Natural Wonder, Sid Meier's Bermuda Triangle.

Leaving aside for the moment the on-going arguments about whether (Sid Meier's - OK, enough of that now) Civilization 7 is an unambiguous low point for the series, or yet another flawed 4X strategy sim that will find its feet via post-launch updates, I love the idea of a Bermuda Triangle just popping up in my simulation, like a black hole spawning in my fridge. I hope it works as in legends about the real-life Bermuda Triangle (or in the previous Civilization 6), with whole armies and fleets getting swallowed up in transit and/or scattered across the globe at random.

A kink is a twist in a rope, an unconventional sexual or non-sexual practice, a spasm, a bend that might interfere with smooth operation, an eccentricity, a source of pleasure and revulsion. A kink can be anything, as long as it's not the done thing. Monster Hunter Wilds, meanwhile, is a game in which you hunt monsters in the wilds. One of the story campaign's odder beats is that you must continually seek permission to slaughter the creatures (and turn them into weapons and gear) from the ostensibly conservation-minded Monster Hunting guild. Capcom Conducting Monster Hunter Wilds Player Survey

Capcom announced it will conduct a series of player surveys to help gauge interest on and gather feedback on Monster Hunter Wilds, and the first is available on March 4, 2025. It's live on the official site. However, it is so popular that, as of 9:50am ET on March 4, 2025, trying to take it returns a "we're experiencing heavy traffic on this survey" response.

This first survey only runs until March 27, 2025. It is for players on all platforms. First, it asks which version of this game you bought, then asks about your history when it comes to playing past Monster Hunter titles and Capcom games. It goes on to ask about how you get news about this entry, both via Capcom, websites, and showcases. It also asks marketing-related questions and some initial details about playtime. You can also offer some initial feedback about your experience. At the end, a free wallpaper is offered. There are also points during this survey at which you can submit your own insights and answer more open-ended questions about the game.

The second survey will arrive in May 2025. Capcom noted that it will go over "product content." This means it will likely focus on the experience and monsters. It is unknown how that could affect future development. However, we do know free updates are on the way, with Mizutsune being the first free monster.

We've already started to see Capcom respond to player feedback on Monster Hunter Wilds, even before the first survey launched. Some folks revealed issues with getting through Chapter 5 due to a bug tied to a character's appearance. A patch for that is already live. We will likely also see future responses like that, as sales passed eight million already.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The first post-launch survey for the game is live until March 27, 2025.

Nintendo Alarmo Clock Heads to Best Buy, GameStop, Target, Walmart

Nintendo announced that ahead of Mar10 Day 2025, which is March 10, 2025, we will be able to finally buy the Alarmo clock at Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart. The stores will get it on March 9, 2025. Both Best Buy and Walmart already shared a product listing for the device, which is $99.99 at the former and $99.00 at the latter

While the two stores are already prepared for the wider release, some aren't. The Target product page for the Nintendo Alarmo clock exists, but spawns an "item not available" message if you click it. The only thing that comes up if you search "Alarmo" at GameStop is a One Piece alarm clock of Luffy sitting on a barrel.

As a reminder, this clock originally only was available via Nintendo directly. Someone needed an official Nintendo Switch Online account to purchase it. Sales even ended up being delayed a bit at launch.

How it works is that those who own the clock can set different themes based on Nintendo properties. They will then see different scenes and characters when alarms go off. If only one person is in the bed, it can sense motion. Multiple people require button mode. Eventually, updates add additional series to the device.

The Nintendo Alarmo clock is available directly through the company now, and it will be at Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart starting on March 9, 2025.

Split Fiction Key Art

Split Fiction has a lot to live up to. Hazelight is riding high as the go-to studio for co-op adventures with strong stories, even winning Game of the Year in 2021 for It Takes Two. Split Fiction sees the studio attempt to replicate their formula for a third time, this time blending the worlds of sci-fi and fantasy with some critiques about the state of the creative industries.

Split Fiction stars two young women named Mio and Zoe. They're both writers who have received an offer from a company known as Rader Publishing. Come to their office and sign a published deal, they say. Sounds great. The problem is, Rader wants to hook all the invited authors up to a simulation designed to steal their ideas. Realizing this, Mio attempts to resist and ends up inside Zoe's simulation. This isn't supposed to happen, causing their simulations to merge and causing serious damage to The Machine. If they can work together and push through each other's stories, they just might be able to shut down The Machine and stop Rader's plans.

Screenshot by Siliconera

It's not hard to spot the analogy here. Director Josef Fares is well known as an outspoken figure, screaming obscenities about the Oscars during The Game Awards and saying he'd rather get shot in the knee than get involved with NFTs. With Split Fiction, it seems he's also making his opinion on generative AI known. A big corporation is trying to get writers to feed their work into The Machine which will steal and regurgitate all their ideas? And the head of that corporation is an irredeemable villain we should hate? It's not subtle.

Of course, if you're making a statement about the importance of human creativity, you need to back it up. Fortunately, Split Fiction nails it by being one of the most aggressively creative games I have ever played.

Much like Hazelight's previous games, this is a co-op title, so it requires two players. Mio and Zoe are each controlled by a separate player, viewed in a split-screen. Chapters alternate between the protagonists' stories, jumping from sci-fi to fantasy and back again. But what's impressive is how Split Fiction plays with each of these genres.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Mio is the sci-fi writer. She likes to write big brash stories full of explosions and violence in grim dystopias. Her stories can range from cyberpunk action to space marines fighting mechs, with occasional space exploration and snowboarding through a collapsing ice planet. Zoe, meanwhile, loves fantasy. Her stories tend to be the more colorful ones, ranging from tales of fey shapeshifters to grand epics about dragonriders, with occasional whimsical side stories about magical witchy villages and riding sandsharks through a giant hourglass.

If this sounds like there's a lot crammed in here, you are correct, and Split Fiction is determined to constantly surprise you. One moment you could be caught in a bike chase through a Blade Runner style city while one player has to frantically attempt to get through a login verification. The next it's a Contra homage. Then it's a gentle artsy indie game where words are woven through the environment. Any segment of Split Fiction could be its own game, but Hazelight decided to throw it all together as one experience.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Of course, a lot of ideas would be nothing if they weren't able to make it all feel cohesive. It helps that most of the game is built on a singular control scheme. At its core, this is a 3D puzzle platformer, where both characters have a double jump, wall run, grappling hook and air dash. These core controls always feel great too, as the parkour it leads you to perform is immensely satisfying. I love a good movement system, and this is top tier.

This gets modified as the level requires it, usually through each of the girls gaining a unique ability. For instance, in Mio's cyber-ninja story, she gains a sword that allows her to shift onto walls in appropriate places while Zoe gains an electric whip. In Zoe's dragon story, their individual dragons have their own abilities, with her dragon being able to roll into a ball and climb walls while Mio's can glide and spit acid breath. In all these situations, these abilities must be combined to progress, requiring both players to work together to get through. This might require Zoe using her whip to open a panel that allows Mio to shift to the ceiling, or Mio's dragon melting a chain that drops a wall Zoe's can climb.

Once again, the level of creativity on show is excellent, as the way these powers combined was varied and interesting. It encouraged a lot of experimentation, as me and my friend just kept testing stuff together to see what worked, and it was always a delight to see some new unexpected effect. This also made puzzles occasionally tricky, although ultimately satisfying. Only one puzzle really got particularly frustrating for us as we attempted to roll an explosive ball to a door via disappearing ramps.

Screenshot by Siliconera

What connects all of Split Fiction's crazy mixture of ideas together is a story focused on the protagonists' attempts to escape The Machine while steadily revealing the reasons they both write stories as they get to know each other. It's a genuinely funny story too, with Mio and Zoe being the ultimate odd couple right out the gate. These two are exact opposites on everything, with Mio being a tomboyish cynic from the big city while Zoe is the most whimsical cottagecore girly in existence. This is played for laughs, as they start out bickering over almost everything due to their constantly opposite perspectives.

There's also comedy to be found in some unexpected places. One of Zoe's unfinished ideas is a story about pigs happily frolicking on a farm, which involves them turning into a coiled spring or farting rainbows. This segment also has an absurd ending that had both me and my co-op partner losing it with laughter. There's also a lot of goofy stuff in the main stories, particularly in major reveals within the first couple of stories, but I don't want to spoil any of it because it needs to be experienced first-hand.

Screenshot by Siliconera

As well as all this fun, silly creativity on show, the story also emphasizes its anti-AI stance through some heartfelt moments. As we venture through their stories, we learn more about Zoe and Mio through their inspirations. There are even a few moments that hit surprisingly hard emotionally. The game is a constant affirmation of why we tell stories – to share our experiences, to present our worldview, to tackle the issues within our lives. This desire to tell stories is what allows these two drastically opposing people to find common ground and develop genuine friendship.

This is contrasted with the deeply inhuman CEO attempting to steal their ideas. As stated, he's a wholly unsubtle stand-in for the entire generative AI industry, and exactly the kind of person you desperately want to punch in the face. Fares and his team are making a clear statement here – art cannot be outsourced to a machine because it's inherently about human connections. Not just in why we create it, but in how we experience it too. The fact that Split Fiction must be played with another human being feels like the cherry on top for this message. It might be a little cheesy, but the execution is excellent.

Screenshot by Siliconera

There is one minor criticism I have of Split Fiction, though. Some of its areas were large but felt empty. An ice palace area featured a staircase to nowhere, which felt like a strange inclusion. A jungle gambling den had a roulette table and a slot machine to interact with but they didn't really do much. I was expecting them to sneak an entire card game in for us to play, much like how you could sit down and play Connect Four in A Way Out. While there are certainly some fun little Easter eggs to find, it did feel a little disappointing that it wasn't more frequent. Especially in a game that's so abundantly full of creativity such as this one. However, this was a blip on an otherwise brilliant experience.

Hazelight has knocked it out of the park once again. Split Fiction is a delightfully imaginative adventure with a message about creativity and human connection. Anyone looking for a great 12-14 hour experience to share with a loved one needs to play this game.

Split Fiction will release on March 6, 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Monster Hunter Zoids new crossover toy - Knuckle Kong featuring Rajang

Takara Tomy has revealed a new Monster Hunter - Zoids crossover toy, which will feature a fusion between Rajang and Knuckle Kong. The company will open pre-orders for the new toy on March 6, 2025.

Just the day before, on March 3, 2025, Takara Tomy revealed a crossover from the same series that would fuse Mizutsune with Gatling Fox. Despite having a staggered reveal, the company confirmed that the newly revealed Rajang - Knuckle Kong fusion will appear as a pair to the former.

Releasing the crossover toys in pairs has been a thing ever since the first wave in 2024. Back then, Takara Tomy simultaneously released two crossover toys featuring the Beast Liger with the Magnamalo-inspired Sinister Armor and the Sonic Bird with Rathalos Armor.

However, there may be more differences between the first and second waves. The Beast Liger - Magnamalo and Sonic Bird - Rathalos fusions appeared as regular Zoids plastic model kits, while the newer Mizutsune - Gatling Fox and Rajang - Knuckle Kong toys are confirmed to be part of the Synergenex series, which mostly consists of pre-built action figures.

The official reveal tweet is also available to view right below:

Palworld Mac version just released

Pocketpair announced on March 4, 2025, that it has just released the Mac version of Palworld. People can now purchase the game from the Mac App Store at $29.99 / ¥3,400, although they must have at least 22.8GB of free space to install it. The company has also shared a new artwork showing the Pals playing the game on a Mac to celebrate its new release on the platform.

The Mac version had an additional set of hurdles it had to pass until Pocketpair successfully released it. The company originally planned to release the Mac version on November 26, 2024. However, it announced a delay a few days before that, as it wanted to further improve the port's quality before releasing it.

After announcing the delay, Pocketpair originally set the new release date to February 27, 2025. The company ended up taking more time to publish the press release for the formal launch of the Mac version of Palworld.

The game is available on a Mac that at least has an Apple M1 chip, with a minimum required macOS version of 14.0.0. As with earlier platform releases like Windows PCs, the Mac version supports subtitles in Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Castilian Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Korean, and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified).

Palworld is also available on Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, in addition to Mac.

Monster Hunter Wilds surpassed 8 million units sold on launch weekend

Capcom announced that it has sold over 8 million units of Monster Hunter Wilds with official sales results for the new entry. The company achieved the milestone with a staggering speed record, as the game reached it in just three days through the launch weekend—from the release date on Friday, February 28, 2025, until Sunday, March 2, 2025.

As a side note, Capcom also included all counts of the game's pre-orders on the release date. Players who have pre-ordered Monster Hunter Wilds could get exclusive bonuses like the Guild Knight layered armor set and the Hope Charm talisman. As of early March 2025, Capcom has yet to put these items as purchasable DLC for players who did not pre-order the game.

It may not take too long for Monster Hunter Wilds to enter the top ten list of Capcom's Platinum Titles page if sales continue, where it summarizes its games that have sold over a million units. As of the end of 2024, the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion occupies tenth place at 9.40 million units. Its base game, Monster Hunter Rise, is in second place with 16.70 million units sold.

Capcom's top-selling game as of 2024 is the 2018 release Monster Hunter World, which stands at 21.30 million units. That figure can go up to 28.10 million units when one includes Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition, which bundled the base game with its expansion and contributed 6.80 million units on its own.

Monster Hunter Wilds is readily available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Fortnite Big Dill found quest

It's time to party hard in Fortnite with Big Dill in Crime City. He lives on the dance floor and needs your help planning a party. Thankfully, he already did most of the setup, so your main job is to find some drinks and get some music records playing.

Fortnite Big Dill Found quest walkthrough

Fortnite Big Dill Found quest is a two-part mission where you'll locate Big Dill and start a party with him. However, starting it requires progressing through Wanted: Joss until you reach the "Help Big Dill with the party" stage. You may also encounter a bug during this mission, which you can fix by joining a Ranked Fortnite match.

How to complete "Somebody's planning a party in Crime City"

Your goal with this first task is to find Big Dill, a pickle NPC that roams on top of a rooftop in Crime City. As you explore Crime City, look for a large building with a dance floor, music speakers blasting, and colorful lights aimed at the sky. Here, you'll find Big Dill, who'll tell you about his planned party.

Fortnite Big DIll dialogue
Screenshot by Destructoid

However, you may find a bug while completing this mission, much like the previous Wanted Skillet quest. Usually, if you talk to him about the quest, he'll brief you on the party and what he needs to start it. If you don't find this dialogue, you can use the solutions below to fix it:

  1. Complete Joss' Wanted quests until they line up with Big Dill's Found quests.
  2. Join a Ranked Fortnite match.
  3. Leave and rejoin lobbies until the option appears.

Generally speaking, you'll need to complete Joss' Wanted quests and join a Ranked match to finish this part of Big Dill's mission. If these don't work, leave and rejoin a couple of matches until it clicks. There's no word on whether Epic Games is aware of the bug or if they'll fix it, but until they do, these options are our only solutions.

Helping Big Dill with the party

After getting the "Somebody's planning a party in Crime City" objective to work and talking to Big Dill, it's time to help him set up the party. You can do this by completing the following tasks:

  • Open box of drinks
  • Pick up records
  • Jam next to Big Dill

As you explore the building under Big Dill, you'll find drink boxes and records on the ground with which to interact. You'll need to find four total items for the quest, most of which are within this building. In particular, you can spot a drink box next to Big Dill's dance floor and below him, with a record on the balcony near the drink box.

If you only find three items during the match, you can jam next to Big Dill by using your Emote Wheel, scrolling to Jam Loops, and picking any song you have unlocked. Doing this lets you play an instrument, knocking out the fourth and final requirement. After completing this objective, talk to Big Dill to officially complete his Found quest, progressing you through Joss' Wanted mission along the way.

Split Fiction review image

Josef Fares' games have held a firm spot in my heart for years. I haven't finished my Brothers playthrough, but I thoroughly enjoyed A Way Out and watched some friends play It Takes Two. Those games are already stellar, but Split Fiction is an absolute masterpiece.

I went into Split Fiction with high expectations, knowing I had enjoyed Fares' and Hazelight's previous games. I wasn't expecting a game that raises the bar for what a cooperative multiplayer game can look like. What started as curiosity and mild excitement turned into some of the most memorable and enjoyable gaming nights I've ever had with my long-time best friend, who shared similar sentiments.

Split Fiction (PC [reviewed], PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S)
Developer: Hazelight Studios
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Released: March 6, 2025
MSRP: $49.99

Split Fiction follows the story of two aspiring writers, Mio and Zoe. One is a sci-fi author who's reserved and practical, while the other is a bubbly, outgoing girl who's all about mystical fantasy stories. As the two pursue their passions of getting their first publishing deal, they're instead roped into a seemingly inescapable simulation that steals their ideas. When the two of them accidentally end up in the same simulation, it's up to them to traverse their own ideas, use their similarities and differences to their advantage, and break free from this trap.

Split Fiction is also a purely cooperative game. Much like A Way Out and It Takes Two, you play alongside another person, with each player's point-of-view shown through a split-screen display. It's a formula that, although not new, is expertly implemented by the team at Hazelight. Their previous titles already used this presentation to their advantage in a satisfying way, with Split Fiction making it even more captivating, especially as you enter the game's latter half.

Each level in Split Fiction feels like its own game. In one level, you play as a cyber-ninja wielding cool swords and whips. The next, you're a puzzle-solving shapeshifter thrown into the middle of a magical forest. While each level fits into sci-fi and fantasy themes, they all have unique traits to distinguish themselves. Both the main and side stories never felt dry or repetitive, even as we approached the end and experienced most of what Split Fiction offered. If anything, things only got better the further we progressed, and there were multiple times when we got a chuckle out of some of these story ideas.

Split Fiction Mio and Zoe as cyber ninjas
Screenshot by Destructoid

Speaking of story ideas, Split Fiction introduces an interesting dynamic to its plot. Every level comes directly from Mio and Zoe's own ideas. They themselves wrote each of these stories through various periods of their life, and you gradually learn more about their personalities and personal traumas as you progress. These make for some peculiar and, at times, hilarious encounters, as one character is familiar with the plot and its conflict while the other is completely clueless. Beyond that, you see some genuine friendship-building and connection that, given their circumstances, felt natural.

This isn't even mentioning the Side Stories, which were equally as impressive as the main levels. Side Stories are completely optional objectives you can pursue to experience, well, more of what Split Fiction is. These were easily some of my favorite levels in the whole game, both because they introduced some familiar gameplay elements and, more importantly, I had some laughs with almost every story.

Although the amount of Side Stories present made sense, I still felt myself wanting more. Even if you're the type of person who speedruns the main story and doesn't care about side content, these are levels you don't want to miss if you enjoy Split Fiction's story and gameplay. Even if you don't love the story but just want a quick chuckle, there's a good chance you'll find something that makes you laugh considering how goofy a few of these are.

Split Fiction hot dog level
Screenshot by Destructoid

And then there was the ending. I'll avoid spoiling exactly what happens, but oh boy, it left my friend and I in awe. We kept asking each other how Hazelight even managed to pull it off and, to this day, feel it's among the most impressive endings we've ever seen. I've seen many great (and awful) story conclusions in my life, and very few have felt more rewarding than this. I already loved Split Fiction well before reaching this point, but this solidified its spot in my heart as both a pleasant and memorable experience that's difficult to surpass and a game that completely reshapes the cooperative action-adventure genre for the better.

Even now, as I'm writing this review, I have no idea how Fares and the team at Hazelight came up with some of these level ideas. Some are your standard mix of medieval adventures and epic intergalactic robot battles, while others are very out of the ordinary. On several occasions, I wondered who had the creativity to design these ideas and was more than slightly impressed that they managed to tie them into sci-fi and fantasy themes. They're almost dream-like, and I mean that in the best way possible.

Split Fiction is also a beautiful game. While it's challenging to compete with the breathtaking displays of realism and adorably cutesy art styles in modern games, it still has tons of screenshot-worthy moments that had my friend and I starting at the scenery in admiration. While Split Fiction has a core style it sticks to, it isn't afraid to step outside the box and experiment. These moments are much more prevalent in its Side Stories, but even the main storyline has some art style changes that were both surprising and entertaining.

Split Fiction review image
No screenshot can truly do it justice. Screenshot by Destructoid

That said, I had some gripes with a few finicky gameplay mechanics. Although most of the game played great and fairly smoothly, others were a little challenging to control, even while playing with a controller. I mostly noticed these tricky mechanics in a few sci-fi levels that, at times, caused a bit of frustration with both my friend and I. Thankfully, we didn't notice any game-breaking bugs or problems that significantly hindered our playthrough; at most, it was brief annoyances that we were able to get past with some trial and error.

Split Fiction feels like the culmination of what Josef Fares and Hazelight Studios' team have learned since making Brothers and A Way Out. Both were solid games, and It Takes Two's success was our first glimpse at what the studio was truly capable of. Split Fiction is everything I could ever ask from a cooperative game and more, easily making it another solid game of the year contender. I wish I could go on about each level and its intricacies since I could easily ramble on numerous incredible moments for a while. This is one of those games that thrives on surprising you at every corner, and hearing my friend's reactions was just as fulfilling as experiencing my own.

Suikoden anime

In February of last year, Konami started its own anime studio, appropriately called Konami Animation. Now, one year later, the studio is embarking on its first full TV anime project to adapt Suikoden II

Much like the studio's name, the title of the anime is another no-brainer. Suikoden: The Anime aims to bring the second entry in the series — which first hit PlayStation back in 1998 — to the screen at an as-yet-undecided date. So far, outside of the source material, the only thing we really know is that Yuzo Sato (MUTEKING THE Dancing HERO) is directing.

Prior to this, the recently-established Konami Animation got its start working on animation production for Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game The Chronicles. The pair of anime shorts were created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game.

This and a bunch of other Suikoden-related news was revealed during Konami's "Gensou Suikoden Live" streaming event. You can see the full presentation below, with the brief anime reveal starting at around the 17:25 mark.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIjGwGAJJ4s

While we wait for the full dish on the anime, there's more Suikoden on the horizon. Chief among the other announcements is Suikoden: Star Leap, a mobile game with a new 108-star story set in the same world as earlier entries. There's no release date yet, but this one will be a free-to-play game on iOS and Android.

Aki Shimizu, who handled the Suikoden III manga, has a manga adaptation in the works for Star Leap.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKOZqkjPcWk

From the screen to the stage, Suikoden is also entering the expansive world of stage plays in Japan. Gensou Suikoden - Mon no Monshou Sensou-hen (Suikoden: The Crest of the Gate War Arc) aims to cover the first game in Konami's series. Norihito Nakayashiki is writing and directing, and performances will begin in Tokyo's Theater H and Kyoto's Kyoto Theater this December.

Lest we neglect the more immediate future, Konami also shared a launch trailer for Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, which hits consoles and PC later this week.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIu8cPX_Za8

And just like that, Suikoden fans went from hungry to full in a matter of minutes.

How to get to the Lightning Spirit on Stormpeak in Rune Slayer - starting village in Rune Slayer

Looking to get your Lightning spell in Rune Slayer? Well, first you need to find the Lightning Spirit, this elusive NPC can be quite difficult to find, but if you follow or guide, you can find it in no time. Keep reading for all the details.

How to reach the Lightning Spirit in Rune Slayer?

The lightning spirit
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Lightning Spirit NPC can be found on a mountain not far from Ashenshire. From there, follow the path that is headed towards the north and leads through the forest. Once you reach Greatwood Forest, continue heading towards the spire in the distance.

Once you reach the swamp you have basically arrived, now you should hang right, after the big tree and in the direction of the mountain. Here, you should find a hanging rope close by. There are other ways you can start the climb on the mountain without a rope, but that is definitely the quickest way to get up there.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Now the game should let you know that you are in the Stormpeak area, which is how you will know you are on the right track. Time to start the actual climb, we recommend using an appropriate controller or at least a keyboard and mouse as it is quite easy to lose your grip and tumble down.

As if that wasn't enough, the mountain can also be dangerous as several enemies await you. They are the Storm Callers, floating blue spheres that can deal quite a bit of damage with their lightning attack.

The best way to deal with them is to parry as soon as they attack, then shoot them when they are idle for a bit. You might need a bit of practice to get the timing right. Be careful, especially, not to be thrown off the mountain as that would mean losing several minutes of progress.

But you need to defeat them in order to obtain Electrical Energy since that's the item that the Lightning Spirit NPC at the top requires if you want to become a Lightning mage. If you reach the top without Energy, just go back and do it all again, as it's simply a matter of being lucky.

How to become a Lightning mage in Rune Slayer

The Lightning Spirit is the key to unlocking the spells that you need to become a Lightning mage in Rune Slayer. Once you have the Electrical Energy, collected from the Storm Callers, reach the top of the mountain and find the NPC.

The Storm Sphere attack
Image via Trello

Interact with it, hand over some Electrical Energy, and you will receive one of the Lightning Scrolls. These will allow you to unlock three of the current available Lightning spell attacks such as Storm Sphere, Chain Lightning, and Thunder Strike.

Unlocking them all might take some time, but now that you know the trick it shouldn't be too difficult if you want to become an all-powerful Lightning mage.

Anaxa and Castoria Ordain of the Chrysos Heir artwork.

The upcoming Honkai Star Rail 3.2 update is expected to release three new Light Cones. According to a reliable source, two of them are 5-star and are likely to be Castorice and Anaxa's signature Light Cones. Meanwhile, the third one is a free 4-star event Light Cone.

Three new Light Cones in Honkai Star Rail 3.2

As per the leaks via Hakush.in, the new version 3.2 will likely release the following three Light Cones:

  • Life Should Be Cast to Flames (5-star - The Erudition)
  • Make Farewells More Beautiful (5-star - The Remembrance)
  • The Great Cosmic Enterprise (4-star - The Erudition)

Life Should Be Cast to Flames

Anaxa's signature light cone in HSR 3.2.
Image via HoYoverse

Life Should Be Cast to Flames is Anaxa's signature Light Cone and it has the following stats and effects at level 80 S1:

  • Base HP - 983
  • Base ATK - 582
  • Base DEF - 529
  • Effects - Increases the wearer's CRIT Rate by 18%. The wearer regenerates 10 Energy at the start of the turn. When the wearer actively uses an ability, reduces the DEF of enemy targets who get debuffed during the ability period by 6% for 2 turn(s), up to a max of 2 stack(s).

The 5-star Light Cone is pretty good since it gives a CRIT Rate boost and regenerates some Energy at the start of the turn. Moreover, it can reduce the enemy's DEF by a small amount.

Make Farewells More Beautiful

Make Farewells More Beautiful is Castorice's signature Light Cone. It has the following stats and effects at level 80 S1:

  • Base HP - 1270
  • Base ATK - 529
  • Base DEF - 397
  • Effects - Increases the wearer's Max HP by 30%. When the wearer or their memosprite loses HP during their turn, the wearer gains "Death Flower," which allows the wearer and their memosprite to ignore 24% of the target's DEF when dealing DMG, lasting for 2 turn(s). When the wearer's memosprite disappears, advances the wearer's action by 12%. This effect can only trigger once, and the trigger count resets every time the wearer uses Ultimate.

Castorice's signature Light Cone provides a lot of HP bonuses. Furthermore, it allows the wearer to ignore the enemy's DEF and advance the wearer's action.

The Great Cosmic Enterprise

The Great Cosmic Enterprise is a 4-star Light Cone with the following stats and effects:

  • Base HP - 953
  • Base ATK - 476
  • Base DEF - 331
  • Effects - Increases the wearer's ATK by 8%. For every different Weakness Type an enemy target has, increases the DMG wearers deal by 4%, up to a max of 7 Weakness Types.

This 4-star Light Cone will be an amazing option for Anaxa. Luckily, it will be available for free from the event in Honkai Star Rail 3.2 and you can also easily max Superimpose it.

The information on these Light Cones will be updated once they are officially revealed by the developers.

Monster Hunter Wilds character creation codes

Monster Hunter Wilds allows you to customize the appearance of your hunter pretty freely, but you can also rely on the creativity of other members of the community.

You'll have to select the design of your hunter at the start of a new journey. You can make plenty of tweaks to how they appear in-game, but you can also rely on other player's creations.

How to use character design codes in Monster Hunter Wilds

Whenever you create a character, it will be assigned a code. You can upload this code to allow other players to use it for their own hunters. Similarly, you can use the code shared by another person to use it inside the game.

  • Saving an appearance is pretty easy, and you can do so from the rightmost tab in the character creation screen. However, you can do this only after you have completed the creation process, and you should also be connected to the internet.
  • After you have completed your creation, you can Save/Load your previously saved designs (or save the one that you just created).
  • If you want to share the design with other players, open the sub-menu.
  • Select Upload Design.
  • You'll get a 12-digit code. Note it down to share with your friends.

The process of using codes from another player is pretty much the same.

  • Select the Download Design option available just under the Save/Load option.
  • You'll have to insert the code, and once confirmed, your hunter will copy the design just applied.

Monster Hunter Wilds character creation

You can do the entire process with another method, but I don't like it. It involves using the slider values, which is a laborious process. You'll first have to note down the slider values of the original character. Then, you have to manually enter those values to make your hunter look like the design you're after.

The only benefit of this method is that you don't have to wait for the character design to be complete. That said, if you're going for a complete hunter design, it's better to do so using codes. If you want to make the change on an existing character, you'll need a Character Edit Voucher to do so.

Acclaim Entertainment returns in 2025

Announced on Tuesday, former Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam publisher Acclaim Entertainment is returning after two decades under new ownership. It will bring back classic franchises and "seeks to support indie developers," according to the press release.

Acclaim is reborn

The newly reformed publisher will help indie studios with "funding, marketing, and PR support," giving them the "opportunity to bring their creative visions to a broad audience," Acclaim said in the press release. We do not yet know which developers or franchises Acclaim will work with.

Alex Josef is the CEO of the new Acclaim and has experience with marketing and publishing hundreds of games to PC, consoles, and mobile platforms. According to his LinkedIn profile, he was the Founder and CEO of Graffiti Games, which helped publish indie hits like Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, Blue Fire, and Double Cross. His work with Graffiti Games ended in December 2022.

"It's an absolute honor and pleasure to be leading the charge in bringing Acclaim back to the forefront of the games industry," said Josef. "We're fortunate that we have an extremely talented team and that we've already signed some incredible indie titles, which we'll be revealing soon."

Its advisory board includes Russell Binder at Striker Entertainment, Mark Caplan at Ridge Partners, and wrestling legend Jeff Jarrett at Global Force Entertainment.

https://youtu.be/HKeKCQZCSe0

The company shut down more than two decades ago

Acclaim previously shut down in 2004 after failing to renew a loan. It went into bankruptcy and let go of around 600 employees at the time, according to IGN. During its last full year in operation, it launched a laundry list of licensed titles and a disappointing 3D platformer called Vexx. In 2002, it also released a strange adult-themed extreme biking game called BMX XXX. Hopefully, a new NBA Jam is on the way if Acclaim can get the rights.

L.A. Noire Remaster studio acquired by Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games announced on Monday that it has acquired the Australian L.A. Noire remaster studio Video Games Deluxe. This developer has also worked on L.A. Noire: The VR Files and the update to the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy remaster.

"After working together closely over many years, we are excited to have Video Games Deluxe join the team as Rockstar Australia," said Rockstar Games Head of Publishing Jennifer Kolbe in a press release.

It would be great if Rockstar made a new L.A. Noire
Image via Rockstar Games

While Video Games Deluxe officially began in 2013, Rockstar's history with the studio's founder Brendan McNamara goes back further than that. McNamara also formed Team Bondi, the developer that created L.A. Noire before it entered liquidation in 2011. Whether or not a new L.A. Noire game is on the table after its remaster in 2017 remains to be seen, but it would certainly be welcome to fans of the narrative-focused game.

"It's been an honor to work closely with Rockstar Games this past decade," said McNamara in a press release. "We are thrilled to be a part of Rockstar Games and to continue our efforts to make the best games possible."

Rockstar Games is currently focusing on the 2025 launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, which will introduce the franchise's first female protagonist. The publisher/developer on the GTA 6 website says it will be the "biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet." No release date has been provided for the highly anticipated title. Expect a lot of delays on games from other publishers once it is announced, however, as they likely want to avoid competition with such a prominent game release.

A photo showing stacks of old gaming cartridges and boxes.

Gaming is, without hyperbole, the biggest industry we have right now; more so than film and music. Billions of dollars in revenue are generated every year, and video games are set to become more lucrative, it seems.

But, if you're from the US, it might interest to know that gaming has different trends, depending on which state you look at. That's according to a recent study conducted by Prodigy Game, which has analyzed data from across America to see who's more obsessed than others.

Gaming study 2024: a map of the US showing the different consoles that are searched across different states.
Image via Prodigy Game

Combining Google search trends with additional research, the study has ascertained which states cared about which video game trends during 2024. The results take into account such things as the number of esports events, as well as arcades and gaming stores, and overall search volumes.

And number one is...

With a score of 76.16 out of a possible 100, Delaware was considered the most gaming-obsessed state in the US, with the study counting 101 arcades and 55 video game stores per 100,000 residents. However, it has zero esports events, compared to fifth place Nevada, which had four. Interestingly, the number two spot (Rhode Island) seems leagues behind Delaware, with a score of 51.53 and boasting just 33 arcades.

Some additional data also shows which video games different states searched for the most during 2024. The likes of Helldivers 2, Valorant, and Black Myth: Wulong took the top spots, with some others like Belatro, Silent Hill 2 (presumably the remake), and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 rounding out the top ten.

As for consoles: the data shows the PS5 was the most searched for across the US last year, with the Nintendo Switch following closely behind. What about the Switch 2? It seems as though anticipation is definitely building for the upcoming console, which was said to be the fifth most searched console.

In general, it makes for a pretty interesting read, delivering an overview of what North American gamers are interested in. As the study itself says: "these 2024 gaming trends reveal a snapshot of regional preferences, from Delaware's arcade density to the console wars between the West and East Coasts." I wonder what the data will reveal in 2025.

If you want to awaken your inner Gundan via the Nerscylla sets and send all in your path to eternal slumber in Monster Hunter Wilds, knowing how to farm Sleep and Coma Sacs is a must.

But unlike most crafting materials, getting the sacs can be time-consuming, even in the late game. Here's how to get and farm Sleep and Coma Sacs in Monster Hunter Wilds.

How to get and farm Sleep Sacs in Monster Hunter Wilds

You can get Sleep Sacs in Monster Hunter Wilds as target rewards by hunting the low-rank Nerscylla in Iceshard Cliffs. Unfortunately, both high-rank variants of the monster will not yield the material as a reward. You can also get the material by trading Wyvernsprouts with Sekka at Suja, Peaks of Accord.

As you might have guessed, the best way to farm Sleep Sacs in MH Wilds is by completing the Dance of Shadows Optional Commission. While doing this, I also highly recommend carving up a few Nerscylla Hatchlings for a good amount of early Monster Fluid.

How to get and farm Coma Sacs in Monster Hunter Wilds

Used to craft 90% of the game's tier two Nerscylla weapons, you can get Coma Sacs in Monster Hunter Wilds as Target and Bonus Rewards for hunting any High-Rank Nerscylla or Gravios. You can do so by either accepting Optional Commissions focused on the monsters or starting investigations on them. You can start the latter by either engaging with your chosen monster or following the steps below:

  • Spot and highlight your monster of choice when in map view before selecting Details (you do not need to be in the area)
  • Select Create Quest and then Begin Field Survey
  • Select either Accept & Prep or Accept & Depart
  • Enjoy the hunt!

Given her higher drop rate, hunting the Nerscylla is by far your best bet when farming Coma Sacs. You can spot the High-Rank Temnoceran at Iceshard Cliffs, Oilwell Basin, and Ruins of Wyveria, with the former housing by far the larger amount of them. Keep in mind that each hunt can net you multiple sacs.

How to defeat the Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Wilds

To start, her lack of resistance against the trio makes picking a Fire Cut or Blunt weapon a must when hunting the Nerscylla. If faced with the High-Rank version of the monster, investing in both Poison and Bind resistance will not hurt. Making use of a hunting horn capable of negating ailments can also be a game-changer here.

The Hunter faces the Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Regarding the fight itself, the Nerscylla is a fairly nimble foe, capable of applying poison at will. She is also heavily reliant on her web shots to lock you in place and will constantly use lounges and swings to close the distance. To make short work of her and counter that, simply apply the famous soulslike strategy and stay close to the monster while flanking it and abusing your dodge rolls to avoid its swings and pincers (do not roll into the enemy).

As you cannot expect to flawlessly avoid all of her attacks (even more so if the enemy is Tempered), don't forget to bring a few Antidotes for emergencies — and never underestimate the effects of poison.

The Plains Base Camp in Monster Hunter Wilds

The radial menu in Monster Hunter Wilds is your one-stop for quick access to essential items during hunts. Customizing it ensures you're never at want for heals, buffs, or any other consumable benefit. The question, then, is how to customize it and why it's so important that you do.

How to customize your radial menu in Monster Hunter Wilds

You can customize your radial menu whenever you enter a tent at a Base Camp or pop-up camp out in the wild. By default, you have four pre-built menus, including a new one that automatically chooses which healing or cleansing item you should use.

When you enter a tent, the fourth option in the Item Menu is the Customize Radial Menu option. You can swap between a keyboard and mouse view or a controller view by either pressing the right stick or pressing Left Ctrl.

Once in the customization menu, you can alter the four pre-built menus and create up to four additional radial menu setups. To change a particular node on the menu, select it to move your cursor onto the right-hand menu. We'll call this the "selection menu," and it allows you to bind the following items or actions to a particular radial menu node:

  • Consumable items like healing items, buffs like Demondrugs, Slinger ammo like Flash Pods, etc.
  • Different ammo and coatings for Bowguns and Bows
  • Essential items you have an infinite supply of, like Throwing Knives, the BBQ Grill, Camping Kit, etc.
  • Craftable items in the field, like making Mega Potions, Barrel Bombs, Demon Drugs, traps, ammo, etc.
  • Various communication methods like emotes and preset chat lines like "Nice to meet you!" and "Sorry...," as well as Gestures and Poses.
  • Miscellaneous binds like the SOS Flare, calling your Seikret, Optimal Health Recovery, Photo Mode, etc.

To change a current bind on your radial menu, like Optimal Health Revory, highlight it in the menu in yellow. Use your main interact button to select it and go through the different bind options listed above. You can have up to 12 binds per unique radial menu, and you can add binds by selecting the line between them and registering your choice. The game will automatically add it to the menu. You can then rearrange the menu to your liking.

How to make a good radial menu in Monster Hunter Wilds

A customized radial menu in Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

The best radial menu setups are designed to keep you conscious and hunting for as long as possible. That means you can access heals, status cleanses, and so on whenever needed. The Optimal Health Recovery option does a good job of getting Mega Potions down your gullet, but you can do so much more. With the right radial menu and in-hunt inventory setup, you can effectively have up to twenty Mega Potions on tap, up to seven Max Potions, and whatever else you want.

To start, I always recommend having your best heals on the top radial menu. That means Mega Potions, Max Potions, Ancient Potions, Life Powders, Nulberries, Antidotes, and Energy Drinks. You'll only realistically need to add the Max and Ancient POtions and Life Powders, as the Optimal Healing and Status option can cover the rest.

Next, prioritize your bottom radial loadout. I've always used mine as a portable crafting station. Mega Potions on the left, Max Potions on the right, First-Aid Med + crafting above or below Mega Potions, plus whatever else you know you burn through during a long hunt. I also put other actually essential items on my bottom radial menu. My favorites are Mantles, Farcasters, and Sharpening.

The communication radial menu in Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

I'd recommend using the left and right menus for specific weapon requirements. Leaving the left-hand menu as your way to equip specific ammo is fine, and you can alter the right-hand one for crafting that ammo. Remember that you can save up to 36 unique radial menu loadouts, so if you want something specific for Gunlance that's different from Bow or Switch Axe, you have that option.

The remaining corner menus can act as overflow for whatever you want quick access to. Having a spot for easy communication is nice if you plan to do any online co-op, especially with random teammates and especially during SOS flare co-op.

Note that if you want to craft something during a hunt, you need to have enough of the right materials in your inventory. Mega Potions, for instance, require you to have at least one regular Potion and a unit of Honey for every craft. If you choose to craft all the items at once while customizing your radial menu, you'll expend as many of the crafting materials as you have available.

In summary, then, a starting custom radial menu could look like this:

  • Top selection: Immediate need, including healing, status cleansing, and team-wide buffs.
  • Bottom selection: Crafting additional healing, supplementary hunting, and survival tools
  • Left and right selections: Ammo and other weapon-specific crafts and equip slots
  • Corner selections: Communication and overflow slots for anything else you might need access to

Why you should create custom radial menus in Monster Hunter Wilds

Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

The main reason for creating at least one custom radial setup is in-hunt efficiency. Having to cycle through items individually using the hotbar on the bottom right of the screen is time consuming and takes your eyes off the action. It can and will get you carted back to camp.

Additionally, once you build up muscle memory by using a custom radial menu, you can heal, cleanse, or do whatever else almost without thinking about it. You can also do so more easily while on the move, letting you keep an eye on your target monster and/or your co-op partners.

One word of advice: don't overload all your radial menus with twelve selections unless you're confident in your selection accuracy. Choosing to craft an Antidote when you really needed a Max potion is a mistake you'll kick yourself over.

However, don't be afraid to mess up a few times as you get used to your new setups. Whatever muscle memory you built beforehand will take a bit to unlearn. You could try going into lower-difficulty hunts to familiarize yourself with it, and coupling that with trying to learn a new weapon isn't a bad idea either.

Those are the main reasons I'd recommend creating a custom radial menu loadout in Monster Hunter Wilds. They're a massive improvement to moment-to-moment gameplay flow, and so long as you master them, they can save you some significant headaches.

Demondrug Crafting in Monster Hunter Wilds

As far as consumables go, Demondrug is one the most important ones to craft in Monster Hunter Wilds. It has several applications, with one big one that any seasoned hunter should always be taking advantage of. Let's cover that that is.

How to craft Demondrug in Monster Hunter Wilds

Demondrug is a consumable in Monster Hunter Wilds that provides you with a sizable damage buff that is permanent until you either cart (die) or the buff is replaced with a better version. Generally speaking, in hunts with decently powerful monsters, you'll want to make sure you buff up with Demondrug before you start fighting. The difference is big enough that it's worth the time and patience to craft it.

To make Demondrug, you'll need two key materials: Catalyst and Might Seed. There are numerous ways to obtain these two reagents, but constancy is what's most important when comes to consumables in Monster Hunter titles, so the consistent method is the one I'll be sharing with you.

How to get Catalyst

Catalyst is made by combining Bitterbug with Honey, both of which are resources commonly found in areas with an abundance of life. Locations like the Scarlet Forest and the Wild Plains* are the best places to harvest both. Look for a blue bettle and a brown honeycone on the map, to pin locations for these resources. Use the Botany skill to harvest more than the normal amount from each node you interact with.

Catalyst Material locations in Monster Hunter Wilds

Once you have both, open the Crafting List tab in your Item Box or Item Pouch, and scroll over to the Catalyst option. If it is not yet available, it is number nine on the list. In this case, select the '?????' to craft your first Catalyst.

You only need one of each of the mentioned materials to make a single Catalyst, but you'll need to make as many Catalyst as you can throughout your playthrough, as it is one of the most crucial, critical materials for several potent consumable items beyond Demondrug.

How to get Might Seed

Unlike Catalyst, Might Seeds are not crafted. Instead, they are found by harvesting plants and growing them. While these are not as common as Bitterbug or Honey, they are still not difficult to find and you can locate them easily using your map and pinpointing the exact location of them there.

Might Seed locations in Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

They look like red berries with a stem growing out the right side, on your map and in your Crafting List.

Crafting Demondrug

Once you have at least one Catalyst and Might Seed, you can craft Demondrug simliarly to how you crafted Catalyst initially. Open the Crafting List and scroll over to number 19 in the list. If you've not made Demondrug before, this will appear as simply question marks. Select the '?????' and you'll have crafted your very first Demondrug consumable.

How to use Demondrug

Drinking Demondrug in Monster Hunter Wilds

As a consumable, using a Demondrug requires the exact same amount of effort as using a Potion. Simply scroll over to it in your Item Pouch, and press the 'Use' key to drink it. Drinking a Demondrug will buff your damage stats across the board and for any weapon. It is a universal consumable and one you should always use once you can produce it without material concern.

A smithy working in Monster Hunter Wilds

Using an Artian weapon becomes almost mandatory in Monster Hunter Wilds when trying to clear the endgame content, but you'll have to craft them with the correct resources.

To get these weapons, you'll have to find their respective parts. The parts you use will impact the weapon you build out of them, but for starters, you'll need to collect them inside the game. Let's take a look at how to farm these parts in the first place.

How to craft Artian Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds

The process begins with you collecting Artian Weapon Fragments, which can be done via two methods. Once you complete the main story, you can make these endgame weapons. You can use a Melding Pot to get the fragments, but a better method is to defeat Tempered Apex Monsters.

These are Tier 7 and Tier 8 monsters that spawn in defined regions randomly. These monsters are the hardest challenges you can encounter. To get Tier 8 weapons, you'll have to use Tier 8 parts (just keep this in mind when starting a fight to defeat the monsters).

Here's a list of all the monsters you can defeat to find a Tier 8 weapon part.

  • Tempered Rey Dau
  • Tempered Uth Duna
  • Tempered Nu Udra
  • Tempered Jin Dahaad
  • Tempered Gore Magala
  • Tempered Arkveld

Once you encounter any of these creatures on the maps, save them as Investigations. This will allow you to fight them three times on each save. Defeating them will get you weapon parts, and you'll also manage to get other precious items like Hunter Symbols.

Monster Hunter Wilds Field Investigations guide
Image via Destructoid

Head over to the Smithy once you have enough Rarity 8 fragments, and you can craft a weapon of your choice. This table includes a list of all the parts required for every weapon type in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Weapon Material 1 Material 2 Material 3
Bow Crushed Tube Crushed Tube Rusted Device
Heavy Bowgun Cracked Disc Crushed Tube Rusted Device
Light Bowgun Crushed Tube Rusted Device Rusted Device
Insect Glaive Broken Blade Crushed Tube Rusted Device
Charge Blade Broken Blade Cracked Disc Rusted Device
Switch Axe Broken Blade Broken Blade Rusted Device
Gunlance Cracked Disc Cracked Disc Rused Device
Lance Broken Handle Cracked Disc Rusted Device
Hunting Horn Cracked Disc Cracked Disc Rusted Device
Hammer Cracked Disc Cracked Disc Crushed Tube
Dual Blades Broken Blade Broken Blade Cracked Disc
Sword and Shield Broken Blade Crushed Tube Cracked Disc
Long Sword Broken Blade Crushed Tube Crushed Tube
Great Sword Broken Blade Broken Blade Crushed Tube

There are three important aspects of Artian weapon parts: elemental type, rarity (tier), and Artian Bonus. You should always aim to use parts with similar elemental types and an Artian Bonus to get a weapon with better stats. Ultimately, these are endgame weapons that will require a lot of time and effort to make.

Cantarella drip marketing art

A new Wuthering Waves leak shows the potential stats and effects of Cantarella's signature weapon - Whispers of Sirens. It is a 5-star Rectifier that will be released in version 2.2 and appears to be a solid weapon that provides a lot of bonuses.

This article covers more details about the weapon's stats and its level-up materials.

Cantarella's signature weapon stats and effects

Kuro Games has already confirmed that Cantarella is a 5-star character and a Rectifier user. Naturally, she will get her own signature weapon. According to a reliable leaker named @_hiragara_, the rumored Rectifier has the following stats and effects at level 90 and Syntonization Rank 1:

  • Base ATK - 413
  • Second stat - 72% Crit. DMG
  • Effects - Increases ATK by 12%. Casting Echo Skill within 10s after casting Intro Skill grants 1 stack of Gentle Dreams. Echoes with the same name can only trigger this effect once, stacking up to 3 times, each lasting for 10s. Switching to another character will end the effect. When the wielder has 1 stack of Gentle Dreams; they gain 40% Basic Attack DMG Bonus. When 2 stacks; ignore 10% of the enemy's Havoc RES. When 3 stacks; Basic Attack DMG Bonus increases by 40% and wielder ignores 10% of enemy's Havoc RES for 27s when Gentle Dream ends early.

Whispers of Sirens appears to be a good weapon. It has a low Base ATK, but the wielder still gains an ATK boost from the passive. Additionally, the second stat bonus provides a lot of Crit. DMG and the rest of the passive increases the wielder's Basic Attack DMG and lets them ignore the enemy's Havoc RES, which is pretty amazing.

  • Tailored Ring x12
  • Lento Helix x6
  • Adagio Helix x8
  • Andante Helix x6
  • Presto Helix x20
  • Shell Credit x330,000

You can obtain Crude, Basic, Improved, and Tailored Rings by defeating the Exiles. Meanwhile, you can farm the Lento, Adagio, Andante, and Presto Helixes in the Misty Forest Forgery Challenge in Huanglong and Abyss of Initiation Forgery Challenge in Rinascita. Player Housing in Final Fantasy XIV

Buying a house in any market feels like a next-to-impossible task these days, and getting your foot on the property ladder in Final Fantasy XIV can feel somehow more confusing than real life.

Getting a virtual house in the MMO can feel like a daunting prospect, but the Lottery system introduced in patch 6.1 did a lot to make the entire process more fair for those who want to take part.

Admittedly, it's still not exactly easy, and you'll likely face stiff competition, but we've moved on a long way from the days of camping outside an available plot for days on end, constantly clicking on the For Sale board along with dozens of other hopeful buyers in the vague hope that you're the one who clicks last and wins the plot.

Those were dark days, and however you feel about the Lottery system, it's definitely an improvement.

How does the Housing Lottery work in Final Fantasy XIV?

Screenshot by Destructoid

The Housing Lottery works on a cyclic system, alternating between Entry Periods and Results Periods.

Entry Period

During each five-day Entry Period, you'll be able to place a bid on any available plot that takes your fancy by interacting with the board outside the plot. You'll also see how many others have placed bids and how long you need to wait until the Results Period begins.

Results Period

The Results Period for each cycle lasts for four days, and this is when you'll find out if you've won the plot you put a bid on. To claim a plot you've won, you'll need to interact with the board outside and pay the required amount of Gil. If you fail to claim a plot that you won, you'll not only lose the plot itself but also 50% of the deposit you placed down.

An Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics card on a bright green and black background.

At one point in time, I was genuinely excited about the sheer potential of Nvidia's fancy new RTX 5000 GPUs. Now? I'm positively horrified with how Nvidia's handled this generation of hardware, and just how big of a failure it is on almost every single front, from performance to pricing.

Of course, there are always problems with brand-spanking-new hardware early on. Thing is, Nvidia has obviously dropped the ball on almost every level this time around. We're not facing mere driver issues with RTX 5000, no. We've got frankly unacceptable manufacturing issues leading to performance losses, the loss of legacy features, a new set of heat-related 12VHPWR connector problems, and an overall meager performance uplift compared to RTX 4000.

That's without even going into the topic of price-to-performance, which in turn is related to excessive scalping that Nvidia GPUs are oh-so-painfully susceptible to. It's a bad look, no matter how you flip it. But wait, it gets even worse, because the MSRP-tier RTX 5000 GPUs are now apparently being "unlaunched."

A screenshot from Nvidia's G-Assist demo.
Image via Nvidia

Nvidia RTX 5000 GPUs are hard to get, ridiculously overpriced, come with manufacturing defects, and should be considered a fire hazard

This latest development in what may be Nvidia's most egregious hardware launch yet has been revealed by VideoCardz.com. Apparently, MSI has decided to silently "unlaunch" its cheapest MSRP-level RTX 5070Ti graphics cards less than two weeks after their release: "There's no RTX 5070Ti at $749 anymore at the MSI US Store... ...This means that MSI has not respected its own launch pricing and has now become a scalper themselves. Even the most basic model [with revised pricing], called Shadow 3X, which doesn't even have factory overclocking, is now retailing at $819," writes VideoCardz.

Good grief. Please keep in mind that MSI isn't the first to come up with this "unlaunch" meme at all. No, that award goes over to Nvidia itself, as the company had to do pretty much the same thing with the original RTX 4080 12GB GPU back in 2022 following a massive outcry.

Setting aside the fact that Nvidia set a dangerous precedent years ago, one that other board manufacturers are now seemingly beginning to abuse in a similar fashion, is there even any point in looking at RTX 5000 GPUs anymore? Unless you're willing to spend roughly 30-50% more than the MSRP, the answer is probably no. And note that this is coming from a long, long-time Nvidia user.

I'm still not fully convinced AMD will deliver with the new RX 9070-series graphics cards, but I find it hard to believe they'll be beset by the same number of problems as RTX 5000 cards have been. It's frankly ridiculous how almost everything seems to have gone wrong with this generation of Nvidia cards, especially considering the value proposition on show.

Specifically, Nvidia has gone all-in on Frame Generation, of all things, but it's not nearly as good as the company wants you to think it is. Take Multi-Frame Generation out of the equation, consider the actual real-world pricing of RTX 5000 cards, and then keep in mind that you may end up getting one of the cards with missing ROPs. In the case of RTX 5070Ti, for example, getting an ROP-lacking GPU essentially nullifies the generational performance uplift from the older RTX 4070Ti. I find it hard to believe any of this is worth it, especially if MSRP-priced RTX 5000 cards are nowhere to be found.

Keep an eye out for more manufacturers potentially following MSI's stead. MSPR doesn't matter at all if it's not actually being delivered upon, and Nvidia's new-gen GPUs are so far beyond being reasonably priced in the real world that it's not even funny anymore. Wild stuff, truly.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been out for about six months now, keeping a loyal niche happy and playing all throughout. This might be a sign that Space Marine 2 is, in fact, pretty good, and that you don't need live service trickery to maintain a healthy player base.

But that's not the kind of insight we care about today.

You're here because you want more Warhammer. Weirder Warhammer, if such a thing exists. Troublingly unbalanced, entirely untested Warhammer. Too many enemies, a dozen friendlies, multiplayer bots in single players, stuff that will make your game crash — the works. If that's you, here are a few Space Marine 2 mods to get you started.

Project Rubicon

A blue space marine with the words "Space Marine 2 project rubicon" on the screen

Project Rubicon is a small, unique mod that completely changes the combat of Space Marine 2 by making kills restore a fraction of your health. Think DOOM Eternal, but a lot jankier and without glory kills. The specific rules are a little different (kills restore armor, finisher moves restore health) but the objective is the same.

Together with the damage increase for both enemies and players packaged in the same month, Project Rubicon turns Space Marine 2 into a much swingier game in which there's no safety behind your massive armor. Relentless aggression is the only viable strategy.

Disable Intros

Various logo seen in the boot up animation of Space Marine 2, in the top left a man makes a desperate face

A staple of every game mod list, Disable Intros does exactly what it says on the cover. There isn't much to add, it's just a mod that removes the unskippable logos that play every time you turn on the game.

Hopefully, you'll be able to keep this mod installed when participating in online games, even if Space Marine 2 doesn't allow mods in public matches anymore. If the game won't let you join a public lobby with this mod on you can just disable the mod. Please don't risk getting banned to skip 10 seconds of logos. You can get a mod that lets you use mods in online public matches, sure, but is it really worth it?

Deluge

A Space Marine 2 featuring human soldiers, space marines, enemy creatures in larger quantities than normal

Deluge - Larger Squads and Enemy Spawns is a long name for a mod, but at least it makes itself clear. If Space Marine 2 left your craving for tyranids and chaos unanswered, or if you wish every mission would inundate you and your squad with just too many enemies, this is the mod for you. However, a deluge of practice targets requires an adequate number of manned guns, and for this, too, you can trust Deluge.

Your squad can have as many as ten members, though that depends on the kind of squad you pick. The Nexus Mods page mentions that Deluge is not balanced, nor is it meant to be. Let's be honest, if you're eyeing a mod like this your first thought is probably not "Does this provide a fair and balanced challenge?"

Better Feeling Weapons

A space marine looking down a gun in Space Marine 2

Despite its name, Better Feeling Weapons is as much about game feel as it is about rebalancing difficulty by adjusting the weapons' damage, mostly in the player's favor. Needless to say, this is another not-quite-balanced mod. But then again, so are they all. Better Feeling Weapons changes the behavior of most weapons in the games in a few key areas, with the damage increase being the least interesting.

Staggering was changed significantly, with some weapons now able to interrupt the tankiest units in the game in a few hits, making those massive guns feel more like their size. Weapon spreading, which normally increases the longer you hold the trigger, now regenerates at different rates depending on the weapon. Finally, the weapon kick has been somewhat tweaked.

Enhanced Melee

A crude drawing of a human figure wearing a space marine helmet while holding a weapon in the top half of the image, A sentence written in Chinese at the bottom.

Unlike other combat overhaul mods, Enhanced Melee isn't unbalanced. In the words of the creator, "This mod is technically overpowered", an important distinction that I'm grateful was made clear. The bonuses granted to close-quarters fighting in this mod are frankly absurd, and hand-to-hand fighting is completely broken.

Common weapons get a damage bump of 60%, faster combos, and easier parrying that triggers early and stays active for longer. Better melee weapons get even better bonuses, with Relics being 240% stronger and a parry time that is seemingly five times longer than before.

Astartes Overhaul

An intricately decorated space marine from Space Marine 2

Warhammer Workshop's Astartes Overhaul is probably the biggest mod for Space Marine 2, with new weapons, reworked existing equipment, three new classes, and more customization. But while this is the flashiest part of the mod, much more has been changed than has been added. This includes rebalanced player health and damage, longer enemy waves, and better companion AI (though it's hard to tell exactly how it has been made better).

Astartes Overhaul is a great mod if you want a slightly harder, probably less balanced experience that trades immediacy for depth and accuracy to the Warhammer 40K lore.

Active AI

Multiple enemies highlighted in yellow in Space Marine 2, meaning they are attacking in group

Unlike some elaborate AI overhaul mods, Active AI is a simple modification that reduces the downtime between actions taken by enemy and friendly NPCs. In vanilla Space Marine 2, it's not rare to see enemies form a crowd around you without doing anything, waiting politely until you're done killing their friend. The same can happen to your bot companions, which is even weirder since they take turns shooting their ranged weapons.

What Active AI does in practice is to remove the countdown between simple actions like attacking and dodging for every NPC, friendly or foe. It also makes it more likely that your companion will change their target when necessary and makes their ultimate ability charge up faster. Like many other mods, Active AI assumes you've installed the Astartes Overhaul mod, though it should be possible to run it alone.

Noclip

The camera looking down from above at a group of players in pvp

Noclip sounds like a very straightforward mod, something that lots of games come packaged with as a cheat or console command, but that's not entirely accurate. Noclipping, in this case, doesn't refer to the ability to phase through walls and go out of bounds by removing collisions between your character and the game world. Instead, in this case, the limitation on the flight distance of Camera Mode is what's lifted.

For some reason, Space Marine 2's otherwise solid Camera Mode kept a tight leash on the player, forcing them inside a tight range around the main character. This made taking panoramic shots impossible, as well as forcing the not especially appealing protagonist into every picture. Noclip is the long-awaited solution to an extremely minor problem, as every good mod should be.

cantarella and rover from wuthering waves

A recent leak from a reliable source suggests the upcoming Wuthering Waves 2.2 update will likely release two new 5-star weapons. One of them is expected to be Cantarella's signature weapon while the other is rumored to be Aero Rover's.

Two new 5-star weapons in Wuthering Waves 2.2 leaked

According to a reliable leaker named @_hiragara_ on X, players can look forward to two new 5-star weapons in version 2.2. One of these weapons is a Rectifier called Whispers of Sirens and will likely be Cantarella's signature weapon. Meanwhile, the other is a Sword called Bloodpact's Pledge, and is rumored to be Aero Rover's new weapon.

https://twitter.com/Wuthering_Waves/status/1892786328066281587

Whispers of Sirens stats and effects

Here are the leaked stats and effects of Whispers of Sirens at level 90 and Syntonization Rank 1:

  • Base ATK - 413
  • Second stat - 72% Crit. DMG
  • Effects - Increases ATK by 12%. Casting Echo Skill within 10s after casting Intro Skill grants 1 stack of Gentle Dreams. Echoes with the same name can only trigger this effect once, stacking up to 3 times, lasting for 10s. Switching to another character ends this effect early. When the wielder has 1 stack; Grant 40% Basic Attack DMG Bonus. When 2 stacks; Ignore 10% of the enemy's Havoc RES. When 3 stacks; Basic Attack DMG Bonus increases by 40% and the wielder ignores 10% of the enemy's Havoc RES for 27s when Gentle Dream ends early.

The 5-star Rectifier looks like a solid weapon with high Crit. DMG bonus second stat. While the Base ATK is pretty, the passive makes up for it by providing an ATK% bonus. Furthermore, the wielder gains a lot of Basic Attack DMG bonuses and can ignore the enemy's Havoc RES.

Bloodpact's Pledge stats and effects

Below are the potential stats and effects of Bloodpact's Pledge at level 90 and S1 in Wuthering Waves:

  • Base ATK - 588
  • Second stat - 38.9% Energy Regen
  • Effects - Providing Healing increases Resonance Skill DMG by 10% for 6 seconds. When Aero Rover casts Resonance Skill Unbound Flow, the Aero DMG dealt by nearby party members on the field is increased by 10% for 30 seconds.

Based on the weapon's effects, it is safe to say that it is made specifically for Aero Rover. The Sword not only increases their Resonance Skill DMG but also allows them to increase the Aero DMG dealt by nearby party members, making way for new team comps in the game.

Do note that the weapon info is based only on leaks and is subject to change.

arcane lineage class tier list

As the Lightmarked, most of your gameplay in Arcane Lineage will depend on your class. And just like any other turn-based RPG, there are several other tidbits you have to worry about. In particular, you first have to choose a Base Class, followed by a Sub Class, until you reach your final form through your Super Class. Now, let's take a look at the ultimate Arcane Lineage tier list and what each Class entails.

All Arcane Lineage Classes Ranked

arcane lineage class tier list

Above, you can see my Arcane Lineage tier list. In the beginning, both Slayer and Thief are good, but I'd strongly advise anyone to pick Thief. I made the mistake of going with Slayer and leveled INCREDIBLY slow. Likewise, I wouldn't say not to pick Wizard or Warrior, but I think they're better suited for slots 3 and above. Martial Artist is as beginner-friendly as Thief, but slightly worse overall.

Arcane Lineage Base Classes Tier List

This tier list of Arcane Lineage Base Classes isn't as rigid as it seems. You can pick any playstyle you want and iterate on it later. Nevertheless, you should be aware that some classes will be a bigger pain in the backside than others.

Base Classes Abilities and Costs Description
arcane lineage class tier list slayer Active Abilities:

• Stab (50 gold)
– Cost: 1– Cooldown: 2
– Type: Physical
– Damage: 6

• Pocket Sand (50 gold)

– Damage: N/A
– Scaling: STR
– Effect: Inflicts Blindness

Passive Abilities:

• Thievery (50 gold)
– Gain more gold from all sources.
• Agile (50 gold)
– Sprint speed increased.

The Thief is a fast and precise fighter, striking quickly and slipping away before enemies can react. Using a dagger, they make opponents bleed while keeping them off balance. Their abilities are effective and inexpensive, allowing for sustained combat. Because of their speed and versatility, they're considered the best starting class in Arcane Lineage.
arcane lineage class tier list slayer Active Abilities:

• Swift Fighter (50 gold)
– A successful dodge grants you a short speed buff.

The Slayer specializes in mid-range combat, using a spear to deal bursts of damage while inflicting poison. They scale well with STR and physical attack stats, making them a hard-hitting choice. Dodging boosts their speed, letting them reposition quickly and keep pressure on their enemies.
arcane lineage class tier list martial artist Active Abilities:

• Barrage (55 gold)
– Cost: 2
– Cooldown: 5
– Type: Physical
– Damage: 3.33 x 3

Passive Abilities:
• Fighting Prowess (55 gold)
– Your Cestus weapon damage is permanently increased.
• Iron Body (55 gold)
– Takes less damage while blocking.

The Martial Artist dominates close combat with raw strength. Using only their fists, they break through defenses and absorb damage better than most classes. Blocking is more effective for them, making it easier to stand their ground. Their high STR scaling lets them wield the Cestus with ease, landing heavy hits while staying resilient.
arcane lineage class tier list warrior Active Abilities:

• Pommel Strike (50 gold)
– Cost: 1
– Cooldown: 3

Passive Abilities:
• Sword Training (50 gold)
– Your Sword weapon damage is permanently increased.
• Strength Training (50 gold)
– Your block par size is increased.

The Warrior delivers overwhelming force, using a sword to unleash powerful attacks that can stun opponents. They rely on physical strength to break through defenses and deal high burst damage. While they aren't the most agile, their ability to stagger enemies makes up for it.
arcane lineage class tier list wizard Active Abilities:

• Magic Missile (40 gold)
– Cost: 0
– Cooldown: 0
– Type: Magic
– Damage: 6
– Scaling: ARC
– Effect: Changes color based on your Soul Color.

The Wizard focuses on ranged magic, using a single active ability to deal consistent damage. Specializing in Arcane energy, they attack from afar but lack defenses, leaving them vulnerable. Their abilities cost less than most, allowing them to cast frequently, making them a strong but fragile presence in battle.

Arcane Lineage Sub Classes Tier List

  • Warrior: Berserker, Paladin
  • Thief: Assassin, Rogue
  • Slayer: Impaler, Saint
  • Martial Artist: Dark Wraith, Monk
  • Wizard: Necromancer, Elementalist

Now, let's see the Arcane Lineage class tier list for Sub Classes:

The Bard is the ultimate support class, boosting allies and weakening enemies with powerful area-of-effect abilities. Unlike other supports, their buffs and debuffs apply to everyone in range, making them incredibly effective in team fights. They also have Curar Forte, the strongest party heal in the game, keeping their team alive when it matters most. But be careful—some abilities drain the Bard's own health, and there's no built-in safeguard. If you're not paying attention, you might end up taking yourself out mid-fight.
arcane lineage class tier list alchemist Active Abilities:

• Dangerous Mixture (200 gold + 1 Small Health Potion)– Cost: 2– Cooldown: 6– Type: Physical– Damage: 5– Scaling: STR/ARC– Effect: Apply 3 random debuffs to the target. This attack cannot be dodged or blocked.

• Certified (200 gold)
– You can sell potions and ingredients to the apothecary for money.

The Alchemist is a specialized Sub Class built around crafting and using potions for combat and profit. These potions can deal damage, provide buffs, apply debuffs, or even make you some serious gold. After some leveling, you'll unlock the ability to spawn a cauldron anywhere, letting you craft potions on the go. Selling potions to the Apothecary is also a great way to make money outside of battle. To use this class to its full potential, you'll need to plan ahead—three different potions are required to unlock all abilities.
arcane lineage class tier list beastmaster Active Abilities:

• Mark (250 gold + Mushroom Cap)

Passive Abilities:

• Bestiary (Utility Item) (Free)
– Gain the Bestiary. The Bestiary lets you see the information about enemies you previously killed in battle. Enemies registered to the Bestiary using the Mark ability will have better item drop rates in the future.

• Sneak (250 Gold + Sand Core)
– You can crouch, moving slowly to avoid enemy encounters. While you crouch, you continuously take damage. Be careful, as this ability can kill you.

The Beastmaster is one of the most flexible Sub Classes, offering a mix of utility, loot bonuses, and support. Their main strength is increasing item drops from enemies, making them ideal for farming rare loot. By registering monsters in your Bestiary, you gain insight into their weaknesses, and once you unlock Mark, killing enemies will yield extra rewards. While primarily focused on gathering resources, the Beastmaster can also help in combat by weakening enemies and exposing their weak points, making fights easier for both themselves and their team.

If you want to be the last one standing, this class won't let you down.

How to Unlock Sub Classes and Super Classes

arcane lineage class tier list
Screenshot by Destructoid

While you choose your Base Class at the start of the game, unlocking Sub Classes and Super Classes in Arcane Lineage requires completing specific quests and meeting certain level requirements. Here's a breakdown of how to get them:

  • Sub Classes are the first upgrade you can get, providing extra abilities and stat boosts. You can unlock one after reaching Level 15. To do so, find an NPC offering a Sub Class quest. Each one has a different requirement, like gathering items, defeating enemies, or completing a challenge. Once finished, you'll gain access to the Sub Class and its abilities.
  • Super Classes are a significant power boost, unlocking at Level 30. You must already have a Sub Class before progressing to a Super Class. Similar to the first upgrade, you'll need to find an NPC who offers the quest and complete their specific challenge. These tend to be harder, often involving strong enemies or more complex tasks. Once done, you'll gain access to a much stronger skill set and unique mechanics.

That should do it for our ultimate Arcane Lineage tier list. I know it's a lot, but if you take your time to study the Base Classes, Sub Classes and Super Classes, there's no reason why you can't dominate. And if you need any extra help or input, the fine people at the Arcane Lineage Trello and Discord will happily assist you.

Blastoise and Piplup Cosmic Eclipse, Team Rocket Dark Blastoise artwork

Blastoise, the final evolution of the original Generation One Water-type starter Squirtle, was the box-art Pokemon for Pokemon Blue, which, along with Pokemon Red and Green, are the best-selling Pokemon games of all time.

While the most valuable Charizard cards of all time remain the holy grail for Pokemon TCG collectors and fans due to their scarcity and popularity, Blastoise cards are no slouch in terms of monetary value on the secondary market.

While this list won't be featuring holy grail cards such as Test Print Blastoise, which was used to demo the TCG to investors and actually features a Blastoise card with an amusing comic sans font as well as a Magic: The Gathering card back, it does feature some of the most notable Blastoise cards of all time that were found in sets. Let's take a look.

Note: The prices quoted all come from TCGPlayer.com's market price history, which can fluctuate over time and are reliant on sales of each card on the platform. Supplementary price information for each card, if necessary, came from PriceCharting.com.

10. Holofoil Dark Blastoise – Legendary Collection

Market Price: $88.30

Holofoil Dark Blastoise Card from Legendary Collection
Image via Wizards of the Coast

The Legendary Collection featured cards from the TCG's first four sets: Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, and Team Rocket, but for the holofoils, all of them had the original Starlight holofoil method – something that cards from the original Team Rocket set lacked.

The first of three appearances of this card on this list, it served as a "glass cannon" version of the original Base Set Blastoise: it had fewer hit points at 70, but it actually packed a bigger punch with its Hydrocannon attack than the original Blastoise did with its Hydro Pump.

9. Holofoil Blastoise GX (Secret) – Unbroken Bonds

Market Price: $95.48

This Blastoise card from 2019's Unbroken Bonds set features the popular (and now defunct) rainbow foiling treatment. The card's art itself shows a rather girthy Blastoise simply standing there… menacingly.

With its Solid Shell ability, this 'Stoise takes 30 less damage from attacks and its single-shot Giant Geyser GX attack allows you to attach any number of water energies to your Pokemon from your hand – much like the original Base Set Blastoise's Pokemon Power: Rain Dance.

8. Holofoil Blastoise – Base Set 2

Market Price: $99.45

Holofoil Blastoise Card from Base Set 2
Image via Wizards of the Coast

Base Set 2 was the TCG's first-ever "reprint" set, as it featured cards from the original Base Set and Jungle expansions, but featured the sharper, fresher-looking cosmos holofoil method, which would be the game's default foiling method starting with the Team Rocket expansion.

While Base Set 2 lacks the overall value of most of the sets surrounding its release, the chase cards still pack quite a monetary punch, and this nearly $100 Blastoise card is indicative of that. For novice collectors, some of Base Set 2's chase cards – like this Blastoise – might be a good starting point for getting into vintage sets.

7. Holofoil Blastoise – Base Set

Market Price: $169.56

Holofoil Blastoise Card from Base Set
Image via Wizards of the Coast

Here it is, the Blastoise card that started it all – though not in its earliest printing, mind you; that will come later. This card was hugely impactful upon release as it birthed one of the strongest deck archetypes in the early history of the TCG: Rain Dance.

Using Blastoise's Pokemon Power: Rain Dance, you could put any number of water energies in your hand into play as often as you like during your turn (an ability that has been reprinted a few times with different names). Often, you were simply powering up Blastoise's own Hydro Pump attack, but fully charging up a Base Set Gyarados or a Fossil Articuno was also equally attractive.

6. Reverse Holofoil Dark Blastoise (Fireworks) – Legendary Collection

Market Price: $170.01 (per PriceCharting.com)

Reverse Holofoil Dark Blastoise (Fireworks) Card from Legendary Collection
Image via Wizards of the Coast

The "fireworks" reverse holofoil cards from 2002's Legendary Collection are among the top chase cards of all time – and certainly from their own set. As such, this Dark Blastoise is worth nearly double the amount of its standard holofoil version from the set.

Also, because this card is so scarce on the secondary market, TCGPlayer does not even list a median price for this version. So, if you cracked this card in a booster pack way back in 2002… a hearty congratulations.

5. Holofoil Blastoise & Piplup GX (Alternate Full Art) – Cosmic Eclipse

Market Price: $171.02

Holofoil Blastoise & Piplup GX (Alternate Full Art) Card from Cosmic Eclipse
Image via The Pokemon Company

A truly awesome card with delightful artwork showcasing the cutest Water-type starter of all time (Piplup from Generation Four) paired with a smiling, happy Blastoise as part of the "Tag Team" subtype of cards.

The duo are shown in an interesting, seafoam green-colored oceanic environment surrounded by bubbles, and they truly look as if they're having the time of their lives. A beautiful card that certainly deserves its over $170 price tag.

4. Holofoil Blastoise – Plasma Storm

Market Price: $180.85

One thing this writer is usually effusive about is the artwork in the Pokemon TCG. However, in this case… if you can't say something nice, it's better to keep quiet.

Despite that, this is a truly notable Blastoise chase card, as it was a secret rare from 2013's Plasma Storm, which is also home to one of the most valuable Charizard cards of all time (a shiny variant). This Blastoise is also of the shiny variety, though it is almost impossible to tell because Blastoise's shiny form is nearly identical to its standard one (a shiny 'Stoise is slightly lighter and more purple-hued with a greenish shell as opposed to the darker, bluer standard version with a tan/brown shell).

3. Holofoil Dark Blastoise – Team Rocket

Market Price: $210.77

Holofoil Dark Blastoise Card from Team Rocket
Image via Wizards of the Coast

The final appearance of the original printing of Dark Blastoise on this list also happens to be one of the most valuable cards from 2000's Team Rocket expansion – and with good reason. It's got great art, strong attacks, and features one of the most popular and well-known 'mon of all time.

While the Hydrocannon attack was the main feature for the season when this card released, Rocket Tackle could also be game-warping – especially if you got a little lucky with your coin flips (always a "fun" part of the TCG's gameplay).

2. Holofoil Shadowless Blastoise – Base Set

Market Price: $225.00

Holofoil Shadowless Blastoise Card from Base Set
Image via Wizards of the Coast

Shadowless Holofoil Base Set Blastoise is the second-most valuable 'Stoise of all time and is worth around $50 more than its standard Base Set sibling. Shadowless Base Set cards are always hot commodities among collectors, so this card's price point is no surprise.

Of course, if you can nab a first edition of this card, you're really sitting pretty, as those cards fetch well into the thousands, and if you get them graded professionally and they score highly, you could be looking at a notable financial windfall – all thanks to the first-ever Water-type starter's final evolution.

1. Holofoil Blastoise – Expedition

Market Price: $325.00

Holofoil Blastoise Card from Expedition
Image via Wizards of the Coast

Expedition was part of the e-Reader series of cards that was released in the early 2000s, and it also ranks as one of the most valuable Pokemon TCG sets of all time. As such, this set's rarest cards also rank highly across the board in terms of the most valuable cards ever made – and that applies to the most valuable Blastoise cards as well. Cards from the eReader era of the TCG have risen dramatically in recent years, and this Blastoise card is no exception.

This might be one of the most unusual Blastoise cards on this list – both due to its striking yet divisive e-Reader card style as well as its frankly frightening Kimiya Masago artwork, which shows a thuggish-looking Blastoise lurking underwater – a far more naturalistic representation than one would expect from the TCG.

GTA 5 Enhanced vs Legacy PC versions, explained - car running away from police

With Rockstar announcing the arrival of a new and improved GTA V version, many have been confused and wondered just what is going on. Is this new version replacing the old one? What's actually different? We will tell you all about GTA 5 Enhanced vs the Legacy version.

What is GTA V enhanced?

The enhanced version of GTA V is an improved version of the game, announced by Rockstar on February 20, that is going live on March 4. This new version will include several improvements over the original version such as:

  • A new range of special vehicles previously only available in the PS5 and Xbox versions.
  • Possibility to sign up for a GTA+ membership.
  • A daily Wildlife Photography Challenge where you can take pictures of ambient animals to win rewards.
  • Faster loading times.
  • Ray tracing support as a PC version exclusive.
  • Support for higher resolutions and higher framerates and aspect ratios.
  • Full support for DualShock controllers.

Image via Rockstar Games

Also, new to the PC version, players will be able to sign up for GTA+, the premium membership service of GTA Online, that offers several benefits such as a recurrent monthly deposit of GTA$500,000 and Member-only Shark Cards with a bonus of 15% GTA$.

GTA V Enhanced VS Legacy PC version

This new version will not override the old one, the two versions will sit alongside one another in your library, so you can still play the Legacy PC one should you want to.

Still, once you run the Enhanced version you can do a one-time migration process which will import all of your Online progress within Enhanced. That also includes your SP progress. Rockstar also confirmed that the two versions will co-exist as far as online is concerned, but separately.

This means you won't be able to play online with people playing the Enhanced version if you are playing the Legacy one and vice-versa. PC Players will need to use the same version if they want to play together.

Image via Rockstar Games

If you already own GTA V, you will get the new Enhanced version automatically so you don't have to do anything. Rockstar confirmed that both versions will be available to everyone, and new buyers will also get access to both versions.

It is not clear, as of now, whether the Enhanced version will see a slight price hike, bringing it closer to the current price of the PS5 version.

Which GTA V version should you play?

Overall, we have no doubts about playing the GTA V enhanced version. Not only does it load faster and look better, but it also takes up less space, acts better on Windows 10/11, and gives you quite a bit more content with new vehicles and upgrades.

Still, naturally, that doesn't mean you are forced to play this new version, especially if you are playing on an older PC that might struggle to run it. You don't want to be forced into a laggy and stuttering mess, just to enjoy a bit of new content. If your PC can't make it, absolutely stay with the Legacy version, Rockstar guarantees it will still support it so you can still play online without issues.
