Persona 4 Golden Gets its First Update on Steam

Atlus, Japan, PC, Persona 4, Persona 4 Golden, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Vita, PS2, RPG, steam

Since its Steam release in June of this year, fans of the Persona series, new and old, have been flocking to Persona 4 Golden to enjoy the remaster and gameplay update of the PlayStation Vita JRPG classic. Today, the official ATLUS West twitter account tweeted about the version 1.1 update for P4G.

The bugs that the update address are primarily random crashes, save file corruption, and soft locks, but the full list has more specific items as well. You can read the entire list of updates and fixes right here on the game's Steam page. Players have been reporting bugs on the Persona 4 Golden Steam forum since its release so it's nice to know that fixes to the game have been made.

The fan response to Persona 4 Golden's Steam release has been overwhelmingly positive, with Atlus tweeting that after just one month, sales for the PC version of the game were over 500,000. This gives fans of the series a lot of hope that other Persona games, mainly Persona 3 and Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal will join Persona 4 Golden on Steam.

While there has been a lot of wishful thinking in comment sections and Persona forums, there have been no official reports of any more Steam ports. However, Sega Sammy's Haruki Satomi (President and Group COO) and Koichi Fukazawa (Senior Executive Vice President and Group CFO) said that they were "negotiating with platform holders for new games in the future" during an investors Q&A when asked about Steam ports of more games. A response like that definitely instills hope in people waiting for more PC ports or ports to other systems as well.

For more things Persona, make sure to check out our review of Persona 4 Golden and our review of Persona 5 Royal. If you haven't already you can get a copy of Persona 4 Golden here on Steam and Persona 5 Royal here on Amazon.

League of Legends is Getting its Own Pair of Air Jordan 1 Sneakers to Coincide with Worlds 2020

The relationship between League of Legends and Nike has been established for a few years now, but now, this crossover is about to culminate in a new product that will surely have sneakerheads salivating.

To coincide with the start of Worlds 2020, which is the annual League of Legends tournament that is set to kick off later in September, Nike and the Jordan brand have crafted a pair of Air Jordan 1 Zoom shoes to tie-in with the event. The shoes primarily boast a blue and white color scheme and are meant to resemble the Summoner's Cup, which is the trophy that is awarded to the winner of the World Championship each year. You can get a full look at the AJ1 model in the featured image above.

While it's a bit hard to tell how this model looks in standard lighting, the color really seems to pop in all areas. I think what I like the most is how the Nike Swoosh seems to get progressively dark as it reaches the heel of the shoe. Perhaps, again, that's just the lighting of this sole image that has surfaced, but regardless, the sneaker itself looks clean.

For now, there's still not a lot that we know about this AJ1 and League of Legends shoe. A release date, price, more official images, and even a wide-scale release have yet to be announced. That said, with Worlds 2020 set to kick off on September 25 and slated to last until October 31, we'll surely be hearing more about these shoes soon. And whenever they do drop, I'll surely be in a virtual queue to snag 'em, because I'm a huge dork.

PlayStation Updates Social Channels to Now Prominently Feature PS5 Branding

Sony has slowly been getting its ducks in a row for the past few weeks. After holding a new State of Play stream that primarily focused on PS4 and PS VR titles about a month back, the publisher has since gone on to make some other small moves that could hint that pre-orders for the PS5 are coming soon. Now, Sony has made yet another small move on some of its various channels which seems to indicate that the company is moving full speed ahead with its focus now on the next-gen console.

Spotted over on Reddit, within the past day, PlayStation seems to have changed the branding on nearly all of its social channels to now feature the PS5 and the console's tagline, "Play has no limits." The update was rolled out across Twitter, YouTube, and even the PlayStation Blog in the form of a new image that features not only the PS5, but also some upcoming games for the platform which include Horizon Forbidden WestDemon's Souls, and Gran Turismo 7. This same picture is derived from a new trailer for the PS5 which Sony released yesterday.

PlayStation's Official Channels are uploading their headers with this. from r/PS5

So what does this mean in the grand scheme of things? Well, probably not a lot, but it does continue to show that Sony's focus is slowly turning entirely towards the PS5. This has been a strange console leap for PlayStation, and in the first half of the year, the publisher clearly put more attention on getting games such as The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima out the door rather than opting to talk too much about the PS5. However, with Sony now changing its branding across all major avenues, it looks as though we should be hearing a whole lot more from them very soon.

Until then, the PS5 itself is still set to launch at some point this holiday season and a yet-to-be-determined price point.

Nvidia Giving Away Watch Dogs Legion With Purchases of New 3000 Series Cards

Nvidia 3000 Series

Looking to pick up one of Nvidia's new 30 series cards but don't have any games to show off all that raw gaming power? Nvidia has got you covered with a free copy of Watch Dogs Legion, one of the upcoming next-gen titles to feature ray tracing.

Revealed in a promotion on the hardware manufacturer's website, purchasers of the 3070,  3080 or 3090 can expect to also receive a digital code for Watch Dogs Legion, one of Ubisoft's upcoming titles. This deal lasts from September 17, the day before the 3080 is available for purchase, until October 29, leaving potential purchasers with a little over a month to pick up one of these new cards along with its extra goodies.

If you're not all that keen on upgrading your PC yourself or you're looking to buy a brand new desktop, don't worry, you can still take advantage of this offer. It counts for purchases of the cards by themselves or with pre-built machines including one of the 30 series cards.

Along with a free copy of Watch Dogs Legion, picking up one of these new cards will also net you a free one-year subscription to Nvidia's game streaming service GeForce Now. The code for this service is valid through September 17 but extends to November 30.

Watch Dogs Legion won't be the only upcoming title to make full use of the new cards from Nvidia. Multiple current and next-gen titles, including Cyberpunk 2077, are planning on implementing some form of ray tracing and DLSS 2.0, an AI that improves framerate while ray tracing is active. Some older titles will also be updated to include support for the soon-to-be widely available rendering technique, namely Fortnite.

Famitsu is also teasing some announcements to go with the Undertale 5th anniversary. Meaning something big is coming soon.

Undertale is an indie RPG which first first launched on September 15, 2015. The game is available on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch. It's possible next gen versions on PS5 and Xbox Series X could be announced for the anniversary. Maybe we'll hear more about Deltarune too.

Undertale was initially very inspired from Japanese games such as Moon and the Touhou series by ZUN, so it's always been nice to see the game managed to get a huge reputation in Japan as well.

Whatever happens, we'll actually buy Famitsu magazine to check it out to give you further details than the usual leaks, so stay tuned on DualShockers next week.

Sakura Kakumei Announced By Sega, DelightWorks, Reveal Trailer, Intro Anime, Gameplay

Sakura Kakumei Hanasaku Otome Tachi feature

A new Sakura Taisen project, Sakura Kakumei Hanasaku Otome Tachi, was announced during a livestream by Sega and DelightWorks. The mobile RPG game will launch for iOS and Android in Fall 2020 in Japan. It features the characters from "Nippon, Dakkan" and "Project Black" and is set in the future of the Sakura Taisen world, in 2011 (Taisho 100). At some point in Taisho era, steam technology and spirit particles energy became unusable, pushing Japan in a state of turmoil. Later on, a new energy source was created, and this new energy is distributed all over Japan through towers sending radio waves. The new characters from the Imperial Combat Revue and the members of B.L.A.C.K. oppose each other.

The stream featured a reveal trailer, an anime episode introducing the story, and a stage event. We've got all the details below.

Sakura Kakumei is a mobile RPG, and the anime episode is an OAV produced to introduce it. It features the game's intro story and introduces the main characters.

Sakura Kakumei reveal trailer, anime intro:

The anime episode was followed with a stage event, featuring the seiyuu Moeka Kishimoto (who voices Shino Sakura), Ayu Matsuura (Fuuka Aoshima), and two Producers: Sega Producer Taku Kihara, and DelightWorks Producer Ko Okamura.

The two producers explained the project. Okamura said Sakura Kakumei is a mobile RPG, and the anime episode we saw is a oneshot introducing the beginning of the story. The game's story starts from the point the anime ends.

We also heard Sakura Kakumei is set in 2011 (Taisho 100) so a modern Japan that you might have lived in yourself is pictured, but in the Sakura Taisen world.

Next, Moeka Kishimoto spoke of her character Shino Sakura. It was really fun to voice her as she's a super cheerful girl. Shino is usually very clumsy, but her switch turns on when she fights and she's super strong. So her personality has two sides to it. The Producers said Kishimoto's voice fit perfectly with Shino and they immediately knew it'd be her when they first heard her at the audition. Kishimoto is really happy to be part of the project.

Fuuka is Shino's childhood friend and uses a bandana as a belt. She's the mechanic. Ayu Matsuura is used to voice cute or little sister type characters, so voicing a manly character like Fuuka is a first for her, and she wasn't super confident about it at first.

A third character, Asebi was also introduced. Shino, Fuuka, and Asebi are all from Aogashima, and the game's story will focus on those three. They're all part of the Teikoku Kagekidan. Producer Okamura said they'll reveal more later on.

In the Sakura Taisen franchise so far, the characters would use their Spirit Particle energy to fight with Spiricle Armor and Fighters, most notably the Koubu types. In Sakura Kakumei, the characters uses Ryoshi Dress, Spirit Particle Dress to fight. It gives the game a mecha musume feel. The producers said there will be many more Spiricle Dress introduced later on.

Next, we got a proper intro for the B.L.A.C.K. characters. They're the Dai Teikoku Kagekidan, a super popular group all over Japan, and are a force opposing Shino and co.

Prana, the Center of B.L.A.C.K.,  is voiced by Lynn. She recorded a video message for the occasion, you can watch it at the 1:48:57 mark below:

In her video message, Lynn mentioned Prana is a very confident person, who's perfect at both fighting, dancing, and singing. She explained each member of Noble 12 in B.L.A.C.K. has a codename themed around a gemstone, and that Prana is the Diamond. Unless they were acting it, judging from the producers' reaction, Lynn wasn't supposed to reveal that yet.

Kohei Tanaka then joined the stage as the composer of Sakura Kakumei. He did his usual gag of introducing himself as the actor playing the role of Kohei Tanaka.

Kohei Tanaka explained B.L.A.C.K. isn't necessarily evil, but are still enemies so he tried to make their theme song Wonderful Future reflect that. It has a Metal feel to it too. He tried to make a "strong" song for Lynn and B.L.A.C.K.

Next, they chatted about the Sakura Kakumei theme song, Sakura Hikaru Revolution. The seiyuu mentioned Kohei Tanaka's songs are really hard to sing, something stated a lot on past Sakura Taisen streams. The lyrics were written by Aki Hata.

Next up, the producers explained the official twitter for "Project Black" was turned into the official twitter for Sakura Kakumei once the reveal happened. "Project Black" and "Nippon Dakkan" were the same thing all along. Both hololive VTubers Fubuki Shirakami and Houshou Marine will be ambassadors for Sakura Kakumei. They both joined the stream, voice only. Both VTubers didn't particularly mention anything interesting.

As the Sakura Kakumei reveal stream ended, each of the guests shared some parting words:

Ayu Matsuura (Fuuka Aoshima) thanked everyone and asked us to support the project. Moeka Kishimoto (Shino Sakura) added they were both really hyped ever since they did the voice acting and they're happy the game was finally shown to everyone. Moeka Kishimoto also said she just started a Twitter account:

Kohei Tanaka said he's happy Sakura Taisen is still ongoing and he's still making songs for it. He thanked DelightWorks and Sega for the opportunity, and hopes we'll keep supporting the franchise so he can keep making songs.

DelightWorks Producer Ko Okamura said he knows some are worried because Sakura Kakumei is a mobile game, but it'll keep the "spirit, fun, excitement, and everything that makes Sakura Taisen, even if the setting, story, and characters are different". He said there's "still a little while" before Sakura Kakumei releases in Fall 2020.

Sega Producer Taku Kihara stated they'll reveal much more on the game "soon", and for now they wanted to properly introduce the characters and project. Producer Kihara also stressed out there will be many more songs, and Kohei Tanaka added they're done recording them all.

The final part of the stream included some gameplay:

Here is the full stream:

Personally speaking, I'm really excited and will definitely try out Sakura Kakumei. It looks like the gameplay is a mix of tactical RPG and real time, and looks similar to other mobile games such as SRW Cross Omega. It looks much much better though.

Another last fun point to note is that one of the slogans for Sakura Kakumei is "We'll never, ever give up and always stand back up", which is exactly what Sega Producer Tetsu Katano said when he teased more Sakura Taisen back in June.

Stay tuned on DualShockers as we'll publish soon another article with the full profiles for all the characters, and everything else from the Sakura Kakumei official site. Meanwhile, be sure to check out our coverage of past Sakura Taisen streams so far.

The latest Sakura Wars game is currently available on PS4. Be sure to check out our review. If haven't tried out the game yet, you can grab it on Amazon to support us.

Nether Realm Head Teases an Upcoming Announcement from the Studio

Injustice from Nether Realm Studios

Ed Boon, head of Nether Realm Studios, has recently talked about an upcoming tease from the studio that might eventually reveal their next project, which could be a new entry for the Injustice series.

According to a recent tweet by Ed Boon, there is going to be a tease in the future of Nether Realm Studios, which could likely reveal their next game. Previously, Ed Boon's appearance at DC FanDome has ignited a lot of rumors around the announcement of Injustice 3 during the show, but the event ended with only two gaming premieres that were dedicated to Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Of course, it doesn't mean that Nether Realm hasn't started working on a new project yet. Probably, it means they have decided to unveil their new game in another gaming showcase. Later in 2018, Ed Boon officially presented Mortal Kombat 11 at The Game Awards 2018, meaning that their next project might get its announcement trailer during this year's The Game Awards festival, especially given that Geoff Keighley has already teased the presence of some big announcements in The Game Awards 2020.

While there's no official clue on the next title of Nether Realm Studios, it's assumed to be either a sequel to Injustice 2 or a prequel to the whole series. A few months earlier, Tom Taylor, the tie-in comics writer for Injustice games, revealed a new iteration of comics for the franchise, while we don't have a game for it yet. So, the upcoming title from Ed Boon and his team could possibly be based on the Injustice: Year Zero comics.

Nether Realm Studios recently delivered Aftermath as the first post-launch expansion for Mortal Kombat 11. The studio managed to break the sales record in the entire history of the Mortal Kombat series with its latest entry in 2019.

WB Games Will Reportedly Keep Working as a Subsidiary of AT&T, No Plans for Sale

WB Games

A few months earlier, there were some strong rumors around AT&T's probable plans for selling WB Games, it's gaming division, however, it seems the plan is no longer available as the new reports reveal that WB Games will still stay as a part of AT&T.

According to a recent story by Bloomberg, there was a change in AT&T's leadership back in July this year, when the former CCO John Stankey was promoted to work as the company's CEO. From that point on, the owner of Warner Bros. Media has changed its mind on selling its gaming division, regarding the existence of some talented studios at WB Games that could bring huge growth to the company's financial performance.

From the time it was rumored that AT&T might consider selling its gaming studios, some sources referred to Activision-Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, and Microsoft as the potential customers who were interested in acquiring Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. But now, it seems there is going to be no deals for Warner Bros. Games, at least not in the near future.

Rocksteady, WB Montreal, Monolith Productions, Nether Realm Studios, Avalanche Studios, TT Games, and several other small development teams are all working under the wing of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. If there was a deal for selling all these studios, it would probably cost something between $2 million to $4 million.

WB Games currently has two major projects for the upcoming years: Gotham Knights from WB Montreal which is set to be released next year for current-gen and next-gen consoles along with PC, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League which will be available at some point in 2022 for PC and next-gen consoles. Also, there are some rumors around a Harry Potter game that could bring huge commercial success for WB Games in the future. Either Monolith Productions or Avalanche Studios might be the development team behind the rumored Harry Potter adaptation.

EA Play and EA Play Pro Subscriptions Are Now Available on Steam

Mirrors Edge EA Play

Earlier this year EA Play live took place digitally revealing a bunch of video games and announcements such as Apex Legends heading to the Nintendo Switch and even the announcement that Skate 4 is indeed happening. Something else that started happening around that time was that a bunch of EA games had started to arrive on Steam rather than being locked down to the EA Origin launcher. Now, the subscription service has also shifted over onto Steam.

Last month, it was revealed that EA Access and EA Origins, the two subscription tiers, would be rebranded to EA Play and EA Play Pro. Now, those on Steam can subscribe to the subscriptions directly through Steam rather than being exclusive to the Origin launcher.

Those who sign up will basically get access to the selected EA titles. If you want to purchase a game to own while on the subscriptions you'll get a 10% discount for those games on Steam only, meaning you can't carry the 10% over to Origin for example. Additionally, there are exclusive in-game challenges and rewards and access to exclusive content.

It's also noted that some titles, even if available through Steam, may require access to the Origin launcher. At the moment, Steam has quite a large selection of games such as Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, The Sims 4, Need for Speed: Heat Rocket Arena, Mass Effect, and more.

Xbox Tokyo Game Show Plans Outlined – No New Next Gen News

Xbox Series X controller Xbox Series S Story feature

Tokyo Game Show is now just around the corner. The Japanese expo is happening between September 23 – September 27 and the event, like many others, has moved to an online format this year. Capcom was one of the first major developers to outline their plans for the show, revealing that they will be showcasing more information on the upcoming Resident Evil Village and now, Microsoft and Xbox have followed suit.

In their blog post, Microsoft confirmed that their event will take place on September 24 at 9 PM JST and will be broadcast entirely in Japanese. The Xbox showcase will celebrate Japanese game developers, talk about updates coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Game Pass, share the creativity from the Japanese Minecraft creator community and review the first- and third-party announcements from recent months. The biggest take away however, is the fact that they will be sharing no new news on the Xbox Series X.

It's probably no surprise that we won't be getting any news on the next generation of Xbox at TGS. Microsoft struggles to shift units in Japan with estimates putting sales of the Xbox One well below 200k units over there. Perhaps more surprisingly though, there's no Sony presence at this year's event given they're far more prevalent in the Japanese market.

While Capcom has already outlined plans to show off Street Fighter Champion Edition and Resident Evil Village, Tokyo Game Show would be the perfect time to reveal the heavily rumoured new Monster Hunter title for Nintendo Switch. The series is Capcom's second best selling of all time (behind Resident Evil) and has a huge fanbase in Japan. The most recent entry in the Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter: World, is Capcom's best selling game of all time – clocking in more than double the sales of the second best selling game, Resident Evil 7.
