FOOTSIES Rollback Edition Review

There might be countless fighting games on the market today, but the fundamentals of each game are eternal. HiFight's FOOTSIES Rollback Edition breaks the genre down to its core, boiling things down to two directions and a single button. Is there elegance in its simplicity, or is it too dumbed down for its own good?

FOOTSIES Rollback Edition Review

While the goal of defeating your opponent might be the same as the Street Fighters and Tekkens of the world, the action of FOOTSIES Rollback Edition focuses squarely on spacing. Players are given a kick attack and a knee attack – the kick attack goes further, while the knee goes faster. Holding down the attack button gives players a special attack, and delivering a KO can be done through consecutive attacks or special attacks. There is also a block function, which can be done to prevent up to three attacks.

There's some small additions to the gameplay, but everything boils down to these mechanics. As a result, one's spacing is absolutely critical in this title. One can easily whiff their attack, giving players a chance to easily punish and win the round. One can also strategize with their toolset and bait opponents, but cheesing with repetitive attacks simply won't do the job. Though it only features a handful of moves and only one character, there's enough variance to appeal to casual players and FGC vets alike.

For those looking to get some more hands-on experience, there's a number of modes one can dive into in FOOTSIES Rollback Edition. An arcade mode with consecutive bounts has been included, along with the ability to fight against players and the CPU. A Training mode is also included, complete with Free Training, a Hit Confirm minigame, a Whiff Punish minigame, and a Tutorial. There's even a way to turn on hitboxes, frame advantages, and inputs, so one can plan out their moves to the tiniest detail.

There is also an Online Mode with GGPO support. Though there was nobody online during our time with the game, the lobby system and rollback netcode included is at the top of its class, used in the best fighting games today.

Finally, there are a decent amount of achievements to be had for those looking to be the best World Warrior of them all. Though they are fairly basic, objectives like winning online matches and clearing its Arcade Mode without continuing will encourage players to hone their skills and be the very best. Just be warned that some of these achievements are harder to unlock than others, with the hardest of the lot at an absolutely brutal 0.9% unlock rate as of this writing.

FOOTSIES Rollback Edition might not look the part, but the simplistic presentation hides some serious depth. Those looking to master the basics or need a refresher on the fundamentals will enjoy throwing down in this FGC-approved title.

The Dark Pictures: Little Hope Gets Launch Trailer

Just in time for Halloween, Bandai Namco and Supermassive Games have marked the launch of The Dark Pictures: Little Hope with a new trailer.

Featuring a performance from actor Will Poulter (Midsommar, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch), The Dark Pictures: Little Hope is a survival horror title that puts the spotlight on five characters that are trapped in a ghost town. As this group explores the town, they come to witness the execution of a group of settlers from the past that just so happens to look exactly like them.

Much like the previous entry Man of Medan (you can read our review here), the title will feature two multiplayer modes. "Shared Story" has players experiencing the title co-operatively online, while "Movie Night" allows up to five players to select their own characters, passing the controller along every turn.

Watch Dogs Legion – Decide Skye Larsens Fate – Kill Or Upload

Watch Dogs Legion - Decide Skye Larsens Fate - Kill Or Upload
There is a choice during the story of the new Watch Dogs. This Watch Dogs Legion – Decide Skye Larsens Fate – Kill Or Upload guide breaks down the two different choices you can have, explaining the events that follow so you can make your own decision for Skye Larsens future.

During the story for Watch Dogs: Legion you will be helping another hacking group, 404, with their own special contracts. The contracts involve looking deeper into Skye Larsen and her current secret project. There's a few contracts here and a number of missions that provide greater insight into Skye Larsen as a person or as a monster, depending on your perspective. Obviously there are spoilers ahead, with the outcome of each decision featured below.

Decide Skye Larsens Fate – Kill Or Upload

If You Choose Kill
If you want to kill Skye Larsen, you will need to interact with the console on your right – as you look towards Skye. The left console is Upload, the other choice. If you choose to kill Skye Larson, she begs for her life as she dwindles away. She does indeed die and Nowt and Bagley both seem to agree with your decision.

As you attempt to leave the lab, you will be ambushed by a number of enemy troops. They are strong and congested, so make sure to sit back and let them come to you – picking them off as they approach one by one. This represents the end of the 404 mission chain.

If You Choose Upload
Skye will still die, but she will say her work is just beginning. Nowt will be extremely upset with you over this decision. You say you guys can still work together, and she says eff off and cuts communication with you. After a minute or so, she contacts you again and says you can user her terminals for jobs but she is going away.

So far this hasn't come back to bite me, I will update if it does.

Interstate Drifter 1999 Review

A retro throwback in more ways than one, Ultimo Games brings drifting, pixelated graphics, and CRT filters to the masses with their isometric racer Interstate Drifter 1999. The aesthetics might be on point, but does it have the gameplay to back it up?

Interstate Drifter 1999 Review

Much like the title would suggest, players will be skidding their tires any chance they get in Interstate Drifter 1999. Turning in any four of its main directions will bring players into a drift worthy of The Fast and the Furious franchise.

Mastering your car's inertia in each of these hairpin turns is the key to victory, as each stage is over a bottomless pit. Mistime one of these angles and players will be flying away to their doom. Your car has a health meter, and though players can recharge their energy along the way, the best runs are those that don't fly off the track, hit any obstacles, or careen into one of its many walls. A grip power-up can also help in a clutch, allowing players to grab onto the track and steer with ease.

Of course, the game is only as hard as you want it to be. Much like SEGA's Outrun series, players will be able to choose their route at each junction, with easy, medium, and hard settings available. Don't expect a tree of choices – there's only three final destinations – but this is a nice gesture nonetheless. Thankfully each zone varies in aesthetics a great deal, with stages running the gamut from cityscapes to the bowels of hell.

In addition to watching your own hide, players can also collect bits and bytes while taking on rivals. These foes provide a serious challenge, but do encourage players to bring their A-game, especially when dealing with slippery surfaces and narrow bridges. Those that do beat one of these racers will be able to net one of its many unlockables.

On that note, Interstate Drifter 1999 has a bevvy of unlockables for players to discover. Tied to Steam's achievements, these "medals" can be yours for picking up bits, finishing certain routes, or doing any number of things while on the track. Palettes, screen effects, and cars that vary by speed, strength, and grip can all be yours if you play your cards right.

It's just a shame that this title is so short. Though it is a free teaser for Interstate Drifter 2000, each route can be finished in around 10 minutes. Additional routes would be nice, but that is likely what the full release is for.

Interstate Drifter 1999 might not have a lot of content, but it does have a lot of heart. Drifting along in its retro world takes some getting used to, but mastering its slippery controls leads to an experience rarely seen in this day and age.

How To Take Photos In Watch Dogs: Legion

How To Take Photos In Watch Dogs Legion
Certain missions require you to take a photograph of something important. This How To Take Photos In Watch Dogs: Legion guide tells you how to locate your camera and use it to take photographs so you can complete some of the optional side content in the game.

During the earlier stages of the game, there is a very brief tutorial on taking photographs using a News Drone. Once you are controlling the drone you press up on the D-Pad to activate the camera mode. However, later on in the game you are required to take a photograph for other objectives and there isn't always a News Drone nearby. So how do you use your camera in Watch Dogs: Legion?

If you are on a mission where you require a photograph, you can complete the objective using any Operative. Simply open the character menu, which is Up on the D-Pad. This opens the character wheel, showing your characters abilities, weapons, and other skills that they can activate.

You will see in the top right corner, a few other options. One such option is camera. Simply select the option to use the camera and the menu will close. You have to make sure your camera is centered on the target and that the appropriate objective is within view. Then simply snap the photo following the on-screen prompts.

There a lot of unique characters to recruit in Watch Dogs: Legion. This Watch Dogs: Legion Dislikes DedSec Guide focuses on a specific group of Operatives that you are unable to recruit unless you unlock a special skill that provides additional recruiting options.

We've gone over the basics of character recruitment in Watch Dogs: Legion and also have the location of some unique characters. However, whether you're looking for specific traits and abilities or you're just recruiting some random civilian from the streets, some of them have an additional requirement. When attempting to recruit characters you will sometimes see a red thumbs down icon.

This icon means they dislike DedSec and you cannot recruit them, at least initially.

How To Recruit Dislike DedSec Characters

How To Recruit Dislike DedSec Characters
When you find a character with the Dislike DedSec trait, you need to learn a new skill before you are able to recruit them. Simply open the in-game menu and navigate to the Tech section. On the top row, right at the end, there is a special tech called Deep Profiler. It's not a very expensive Tech to unlock so you can get it very early in the game.

Once you have unlocked the Deep Profiler Tech you can navigate back towards the Team menu. Find a character that was previously locked behind the Dislikes DedSec trait and now you will see there is an additional option. You can press a button, as shown on the screen, to Deep Profile your target.

You will then get a list of different activities the target has been performing. You can track down rivals and other options here. Select one of the options, track it down and complete the objective. You will then have a normal recruit mission unlock for your original target. Simply complete the objectives to gain another recruit.
