Classic Puzzler Myst is Available Now Oculus Quest

Myst, Oculus Quest

The Game Awards was filled with big announcements, new trailers, and game releases. To the surprise of some, Myst was part of the latter. The classic puzzle game has been given the VR treatment and is available now on Oculus Quest. If you're not old enough to remember your dad frustratingly butting up against the game's secrets, now you can do so in a whole new dimension. Check out the trailer below.

Myst remains an absolute classic of the genre. I'm not completely convinced I'll be jumping back in to relive my childhood memories in VR. However, it's neat for those who want to. At the very least, I'm interested to see what they've done in their quest to "reimagine" the game for the platform.

One thing I've seen that could be very interesting is the new optional puzzle randomization. So, even if you've played Myst over and over again in the almost 30 years since its release, you can make it feel new again.

At the very least, this should be a game that translates well to VR. It's already first-person, and the focus on puzzles also works in its favor. In fact, this might be an excellent early game to try out for new users who cop a Quest 2 this holiday. It should be a great way to ease yourself into everything VR has to offer.

Myst is available now on the Oculus Quest platform. No word yet on if it will come to other headsets. That said, it wouldn't be a surprise to see that happen in the future.

Endless Dungeon is Amplitude's Latest Game in the Endless Series

Endless Dungeon, Amplitude, SEGA

Amplitude fans around the world are likely very excited by a few announcements from The Game Awards. Not only did we get another look at Humankind but the team showed off the next game its Endless series. Endless Dungeon is another rogue-lite game in the series; however, this time it's taking the tactical action route for gameplay. See for yourself in the new trailer below.

While the beginning of the trailer definitely gives off some space Rock Band vibes, it's quickly clear that this will be a classic Amplitude game. Endless Dungeon continues the loosely connected series of solid games in a new way. Thus far, we've seen the Endless series take on 4X strategy and roguelike tower defense. Now, they're moving to rogue-lite system (an important distinction), while also focusing on more action-y combat.

As you'd expect, the game looks phenomenal. Almost all of Amplitude's games do. And the combat looks incredibly sharp. Of course, it's worth waiting until we see more to really make a judgment; however, I'll trust the studio to get it right. Their games don't always knock it out of the park, but they've established a baseline bar of quality that leaves me confident.

Endless Dungeon doesn't yet have a release date. Well, unless you count "soon" as a date. That said, when it does launch it's coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. So, essentially if you want to play it, you'll have something that can run it. Stay tuned for more.

Century: Age of Ashes Puts in Control of a Dragon for Multiplayer Mayhem

Century: Age of Ashes, Playwing

Century: Age of Ashes was one of many new games announced tonight at The Game Awards. The debut game from Playwing is a free-to-play multiplayer title that puts you in charge of a dragon for aerial combat. Century is set to kick off its early access period in February 2021 and looks like it could be some fun, fast-paced mayhem. Give the trailer a watch below.

When I first saw the trailer for Century: Age of Ashes, I was immediately reminded of that PS3 classic Lair. Hopefully, this game is a bit more fun to play than Factor 5's dragon-based game. Truthfully, it likely has more in common with The Falconeer. That game launched earlier this year to mixed reviews; however, it had some fun ideas that its small team could expand upon.

Century: Age of Ashes could be poised to do just that. Obviously, the games aren't one-for-one replicas, but they share that aerial combat DNA. Century lets you hop into battles ranging from 3v3 to 6v6v6. And each player will have their own choice of class. At launch, you'll only have three choices, but there are plans for more as the game moves through early access.

Of course, this being a free-to-play game, it looks like it will have a heavy focus on cosmetics. That's not, in itself, a bad thing; however, it's worth noting. If you're not a fan of games nickel-and-diming you for new content, maybe give this one a pass until we know more.

Century: Age of Ashes launches on PC in February 2021.

Ark 2 Lets Me Live My Fantasy of Having Vin Diesel Fight a Dinosaur

Ark 2, Studio Wildcard

In what was perhaps the most ludicrous trailer at The Game Awards, Studio Wildcard revealed a Vin Diesel-filled trailer for Ark 2. This trailer was all over the place. At first, I was certain it was going to be a Turok reboot. Then I was hopeful that this was some kind Ong Bak-like prequel to the Riddick franchise. And, while I would have loved either of those games, I'm very intrigued to see what Studio Wildcard does with this sequel. Give the trailer a watch below.

Once I realized this was an Ark game, I was personally hoping for a single-player spin-off. After all, if you're getting Diesel involved, you have to assume there's going to a focus on narrative. That said, the team confirmed on Twitter after the trailer that it will continue to be an online multiplayer sandbox game. It's not what I'm looking for, but I'm willing to give it a chance. I've always been intrigued by Ark's premise, but never really gotten into it. Now, that Vin's in though, it might finally be the time.

Of course, if you've watched the trailer you'll also note that there's an Ark anime coming. It looks fantastic and includes some big names in its voice cast. Gerard Butler, Jeffry Wright, David Tennant, Elliot Page, Karl Urban, Russell Crowe, and others join Vin Diesel a star-packed cast. No word just yet on where this will be available, but I expect we'll hear more soon.

In fact, Studio Wildcard announced that they'll drop more details tomorrow. So check back then to see what's coming down the Ark 2 pipeline.

Evil Dead: The Game Gets a Wild Announcement at The Game Awards

Evil Dead: The Game, Saber Interactive

The Game Awards treated us to some excellent new trailers this evening. Some were expected, but a few big surprises also hit. One of the latter was a trailer for Evil Dead: The Game. It's being made by the team behind World War Z and WWE 2K Battlegrounds, so something of a mixed bag. That said, what they've shown in the short trailer looks like it could be fun. Plus, it has Bruce Campbell, so that's a big win. Check it out.

Obviously, we didn't get to see much gameplay from Evil Dead: The Game. That said, it certainly has the look of a multiplayer horde-based game. We do know that it will have both co-op and PvP play, though that's about it. Regardless, it's pretty neat to see some of the fan-favorite characters show up here. I'm not the biggest Evil Dead fan out there, but I'm pretty sure we can see both Kelly Maxwell and Arthur in that trailer. More eagle-eyed fans might notice a few more faces pop up.

Personally, I'll hold off on judging the game too much until we see more. Knowing this is the studio behind WWE 2K Battlegrounds gives me a bit of a pause; however, we just don't know enough to be sure. It looks like it could be something akin to Left 4 Dead, but I could just as easily see it going the Dead by Daylight route. Either way, we'll know soon enough.

Evil Dead: The Game is set to launch sometime in 2021. When it does, it'll come to Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Yakuza Remastered Collection and Yakuza 6 Are Coming to Game Pass

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life

The Game Awards was filled with tons of announcements for games on the horizon. However, the Xbox Game Pass team had a few surprises in store that focused on something a bit older. That's right Game Pass fans, soon you'll be able to play the entire Kiryu saga from Yakuza on the service. Tonight, it was revealed that the Yakuza Remastered Collection and Yakuza  6: The Song of Life are joining the first three games in the series soon. Check out the entire list of games coming soon to Xbox Game Pass below.

Obviously, if you're talking to me personally, the Yakuza reveals were by far the most exciting games shown off in this trailer. After all, it's been phenomenal as a PS4 owner to have the entire mainline Kiryu saga available on one platform. And now Xbox and PC owners will have that same privilege. However, those were far from the only big games coming to the service.

Of course, Skyrim is making its way to service. At this point, it's much easier to ask where isn't it available. We already knew about games like Doom Eternal and Control coming, but it's still great fun seeing them in the trailer. The same goes for Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order coming to PC Game Pass. And that's just the tip of the iceberg with newer indies like Haven and Call of the Sea on the service now.

Truly, there isn't a better service in video games. You just get so much bang for your buck. And now you can every single mainline Kiryu game for one low price. It's hard to imagine a better deal out there. Now, we just need SEGA to remake Yakuza: Deal Souls and I'll be a stupidly happy man. And great news, all of this Yakuza goodness is also coming to Steam.

Fortnite Brings Halo and The Walking Dead Crossovers Into the Latest Season

Fortnite is obviously one of the biggest games on the planet, and the battle royale title has continued to find even bigger ways to draw players in through its massive events and crossovers. After its most recent excursions with The Mandalorian and God of WarFortnite is going even bigger by bringing some familiar faces into the fray with Master Chief, Michonne, and Daryl Dixon.

During The Game Awards 2020, Epic Games revealed several pieces of news worth looking forward to for Fortnite fans, the biggest of which being the inclusion of Master Chief and content from the Halo series. As shown in the trailer, Master Chief is now available as a purchasable player skin through the in-game shop, alongside other cosmetics inspired by the franchise like a Gravity Hammer pick-axe and a Pelican glider. Additionally, the iconic Blood Gulch map from the first game will be making its way to Fortnite's Creative Mode for players to try their own rendition of Capture the Flag.

Both of the Halo-themed reveal videos for Fortnite are particularly funny, especially the Blood Gulch introduction that features cameos from the cast of the classic webseries Red vs. Blue and Ninja. You can check out both of the announcement videos below:

Alongside the new Halo-themed content, Epic also revealed that The Walking Dead franchise will make its way into Fortnite with the addition of Michonne and Daryl Dixon as the latest Hunters in the game. Both of the veterans from The Walking Dead series will be making their way over on December 16, 2020, so you won't have to wait too long to play as them. Presumably, their introduction will likely include other cosmetics and items inspired by the hit post-apocalyptic zombie franchise.

Fortnite is available to play for free on consoles, PC, and mobile.

BioWare Teases Next Mass Effect Game at The Game Awards

Mass Effect

This year's Game Awards show has been extremely busy for BioWare. The company has already shown a trailer for its upcoming Dragon Age title, but apparently, that wasn't enough. The show's last trailer of the night was for the upcoming Mass Effect title.

The trailer starts off in space, passing through the ruins of a Mass Effect relay before focusing in on a snow-covered planet. On it, Liara, one of the companions from past Mass Effect titles, picks up a piece of scrap, brushing snow off of it to reveal the Normandy's iconic 'N7' logo. No official title was revealed for the upcoming Mass Effect title, but the trailer ended by saying the series would continue. We'll all simply have to wait until BioWare is ready to share more of its much-awaited upcoming title.
