It's almost time to play a new Far Cry game. After a long period of radio silence, and a couple of delays, Far Cry 6 finally comes out this week. The new game takes the series to the fictional island of Yara, which is basically Cuba in all but name.
The country is ruled by a dictator - Anton Castillo - played by Giancarlo Esposito, whose ruthless regime drives people to band together and oppose him, kick-starting a revolution. You play as Dani Rojas (male or female), a guerrilla fighter who joins up with others to liberate Yara.
New in Far Cry 6 is the ability to holster weapons when near guards and patrols, which lets you blend in to avoid detection, and allow you enough time to lay traps and set up ambushes. This is still a game about chaos, however, and Ubisoft has devised a number of new tools that'll make the action interesting.
As the sun sets on your journey home, a tractor suddenly speeds past you on the road and smashes into the power station. The woman inside leaps out and orders her massive pet crocodile to attack nearby government soldiers, before grabbing a horse and riding off into the sunset while the tractor explodes behind her. It's quite the spectacle, but all of this barely registers as you continue on your way. Why would it? It's just another day in paradise.
Far Cry 6's paradise hinges on fantasies — the fantasy that one man can shape fate, that corruption can be overturned, and that you'll believe the situation on Yara is deeper and more complex than it really is.. The latest in Ubisoft's long-running franchise refines the series' penchant for chaos, but the fight against Castillo is far from the only civil war taking place here. Far Cry 6 is at odds with itself as well.
Far Cry 6 begins with a bang, or, more accurately, hundreds of them. Government soldiers raid a mid-sized city on Yara's main island, ostensibly hunting rebels, but actually capturing dissidents and outcasts as labor supplies for Antón Castillo's work camps.
It looks like Twitch has become the victim of an anonymous hacker who claims to have obtained a wealth of data about the streaming platform, including source code, Twitch's mobile, desktop and console clients, passwords, streamer payout information and much more besides.
The leak originated on 4chan, where the user responsible for postingit noted their intention in uploading this information was to disrupt the online video streaming space, citing Twitch's "toxic" community as a motivating factor.
If you have a Twitch account, it's probably best that you either alter your password or enable two-factor authentication to safeguard your account and your payment details.

Far Cry 6 smooths over a lot of the bumps that have cropped up in the past few games and even though it misses some steps, especially with its new inventory system, it's the best the series has been in years.

From the Montana wilderness to the frozen peaks of the Himalayas, the Far Cry franchise has taken players across the globe for action-packed adventures. Far Cry 6 carries on the series' trademark of delivering a massive, open-world playground where players fight for control against a powerful villain. While the dark story sometimes contrasts harshly with goofy side content and characters, Far Cry 6 fires on all cylinders to deliver one of the series' best games.
Far Cry 6 is a nonstop thrill ride from start to finish, delivering a wide variety of activities to pursue within its vast open world. The mainline missions often center on infiltrating enemy-controlled territory to undermine the rule of Antón Castillo, the ruthless dictator of the fictional Caribbean nation of Yara. Whether you're blowing up Castillo's fuel tanks, burning down his plantations, or taking out high-value targets, Far Cry 6 offers a variety of action-packed ways to topple the ruling regime.
True to the series, Far Cry 6 enables you to play your way. Strong shooting mechanics allowed me to easily string together headshots with my suppressed rifle as I moved through an area undetected. If I messed up a kill and the enemy caught on to my presence, the solid gunplay works well in the chaos of a firefight.
Most of the time, I used standard rifles, pistols, and shotguns (all of which are customizable). You also have access to unique, unlockable Resolver weapons (special guns with unique abilities and attributes) and Supremos (ultimate abilities that operate on a cooldown), which add a ton of firepower to your repertoire. I preferred to use stealthy tactics whenever possible, so I loved bringing a Resolver nail gun for silent takedowns. However, I was also glad to have a Supremo with homing rockets handy to take out armored tanks and pesky helicopters.
If you want a break from the main story, the massive and utterly gorgeous island of Yara offers terrific variety and seemingly unending side content. Taking down military checkpoints, blasting anti-aircraft cannons, and helping characters with side missions are all supremely satisfying ways to nudge Castillo's empire toward erosion. Despite Yara's massive size, getting to your next destination is easy thanks to summonable vehicles and a wingsuit; you can even airdrop onto fast-travel points to quickly soar in any direction.
While you can approach most situations however you like, the A.I. sometimes impedes your plans. At times, enemies disregard nearby dead bodies, while other times they had a seemingly supernatural perception of my presence. When combined with uneven difficulty spikes and occasionally unforgiving checkpoints, these inconsistencies lead to frustrating moments in an otherwise excellent experience.
Narratively, Far Cry 6 starts with a punch to the gut. As Dani Rojas, you have your one-way ticket out of Yara. After things go south through a series of emotional scenes, Dani joins the resistance. As a member of Libertad, Dani's primary task is recruiting other guerrillas, with the eventual goal of dethroning Yara's bloodthirsty dictator.
Giancarlo Esposito, of Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian fame, masterfully portrays President Castillo. While he only appears in cutscenes between main story missions, his presence looms large thanks to regularly played propaganda speeches, giant billboards featuring his face, and his name at the center of most conversations. In Far Cry's rich annals of fantastic antagonists, Castillo stands among the most menacing. But Castillo isn't the only noteworthy villain, as he surrounds himself with truly despicable people who I couldn't wait to take a shot at.
The rest of the cast is memorable, and Dani is perhaps the best Far Cry protagonist to date. However, for every authentic character, there's another that is a caricature. These borderline cartoonish people are especially jarring in a story centered on a bloody revolution. You see plenty of terrible things happen to both good and bad people, and Far Cry 6 still struggles with the precarious balancing act of telling a dark, serious story and delivering the carefree thrills players expect from the franchise.
The dissonance between Far Cry's two sides has always been challenging to reconcile, but Far Cry 6 handles this balance better than most entries in the series. Many zanier missions and storylines are relegated to side content and player choice; if you don't want to free a group of hostages using a CD-launching gun alongside a cute wiener dog named Chorizo, you don't have to.
Far Cry 6 is a compelling open-world action game from the early moments through the final confrontation. The main storyline is exciting, and I never ran into a shortage of side content to enjoy. Far Cry 6 isn't revolutionary in its accomplishments, but it executes the franchise's formula better than any entry before it.

No doubt in celebration of yesterday's presentation, Nintendo is currently offering double My Nintendo Gold Points on any digital purchase relating to the game. The deal applies to the main game itself, both Fighters Pass collections, and individual Challenger Packs.
It seems that the development scene around retro Nintendo hardware continues to draw a loyal group of enthusiasts, with the Game Boy in particular seeing a number of new and revamped games recently. An intriguing project that's come onto our radar is GB Corp., which has a rather fun mechanic for those that have a collection of Game Boy models.
Available as we speak, the game offers single-player, online, and local multiplayer battling across levels inspired by some of Nickelodeon's most popular franchises. 20 characters are available to choose from at launch, with more on the way.
In Squid Game, participants are given a business card. On one side are PlayStation-like icons, and on the other is a phone number to call. The number, however, is real.
The big day approaches. The Far Cry 6 release time is just around the corner, with Ubisoft's latest entry in the long-running FPS games series unlocking around the world tomorrow, October 7. Now, the reviews are rolling in giving us a good idea of what's to come, and whether it;s be worth your hard-earned pennies - so, let's see what the critics have made of it.
Broadly, it looks like the new PC game's fared well with critics, with review scores mostly being towards the upper end of the scale. Far Cry 6's gameplay and adventure seem to be recurring themes in critics' praise, with IGN's write-up noting, for example, that it "smooths over a lot of the bumps that have cropped up in the past few games and even though it misses some steps, especially with its new inventory system, it's the best the series has been in years". However, there are a few among the mix that put it lower down on the score, with VGC, for example, scoring it a two-stars-out-of-five and describing some of its elements as a bit "bland".
Previously, these issues seemed predominantly limited to Nvidia's best graphics card, the RTX 3090, with a large portion of the blame directed towards soldering issues on EVGA branded cards. However, there are now multiple accounts of the game killing not only RTX 3090s, but also RTX 3080 Tis, RTX 3080s, RTX 3060 Tis, and even RTX 3000 laptop GPUs. Both EVGA and Gigabyte components have, again, been highlighted as particularly vulnerable to being fried.
Amazon Games previously took steps to try and mitigate the issue during the beta through an fps limiter in the game's menu. These new reports, however, suggest the problem is far from resolved, and we've reached out to Amazon Games for further comment.
So, you want to know about the Stellaris Alien Box? This is a reference to the Orbital Speed Demon anomaly event chain. It typically appears in asteroids, and once completed it can add a permanent free trait to the main species of your empire. There are five possible stages of the event, some of which offer branching possibilities like opening the box straight away, or studying it first, or even selling it and ending the chain early.
If you keep it, you're granted a special project to open it, which then presents you with another choice involving several options. Depending on which option you pick, your main species will receive a new trait. This event has changed since its original incarnation, where the box would either upgrade a negative trait to a positive trait, or give you the 'best' version of an existing positive trait.
This was changed as part of the 2.2 update to the current version. A look at the event chain as it appears in-game is available on the official Paradox Wiki, but we've outlined a summary of each stage for you.
The nights grow darker and the air chillier as we make our way towards the end of League of Legends' 2021 patch schedule. League of Legends patch 11.20 has sailed onto the MOBA game's live battlegrounds and its follow-up has now hit the PBE for its fortnight of testing. So, let's see what's in store for League of Legends patch 11.21, shall we?
If you've been keeping a close eye on League's Twitter channels, you've probably had an early peek at the batch of new skins headed its way with 11.21. This patch is all about the Dragonmancer alternate universe, with new styles for Kai'Sa, Karma, Thresh, Volibear, and Yasuo on the way. The latter two are particularly special, with Volibear getting a Prestige Edition, while Yasuo's two skins are legendary variants, bringing new voiceovers, as well as new animations, VFX, SFX, and more. You can check all of these out in the New Champion Skins section below.
Elsewhere, we've got a VFX update coming up for The Dark Sovereign, Syndra with 11.21. "Similar to the previous VFX updates we've made in the past (Ziggs, Zilean, Malzahar, etc), we're working on updates to the visual effects (VFX) of champions whose spell effects are in need of some love," senior visual effects artist Riot Sirhaian explains. "Our aim is to get their VFXs to current League standards and improve gameplay clarity. This time, it's Syndra's turn, for 11.21's PBE patch!"
Amazon Games has given New World its first update, making it a wee bit trickier to go AFK to save your spot in one of the MMO's bustling game worlds. Alongside tweaked warning and disconnect timings, you'll find additional measures to combat "simulated mouse movement".
The developer has posted the complete set of patch notes to its website, delving further into the topic. Amazon has added additional AFK prevention to ensure that players can't fool the system by using simulated mouse movement. You'll also find that the AFK warning message pops up after 15 minutes now instead of 20 and that the AFK disconnect has been shortened to 20 minutes from 25.
In case you haven't heard, Amazon's new kid on the block is proving to be quite popular. At the time of writing, New World has peaked at 913,634 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB. Naturally, though, that has caused server congestion, leading some players to use various methods to stay in the game so they don't have to rejoin the queue after they leave. That's not quite how Amazon Games wants New World to be played, though, so the developer swiftly addressed the issue.
Want to know more about specialists in Battlefield 2042? The next generation of Battlefield is here, introducing brand new mechanics, such as the ability to customise your weapon in real time. Battlefield 2042 also features a dynamic weather system to alter the flow of combat, forcing players to adapt to dangerous environmental hazards on foot and in vehicles. The size of the maps has also changed to accommodate up to 128 players, making this the largest Battlefield game yet.
One of the biggest changes to the series is the introduction of specialists, which adds more flexibility to the class system. In previous games, many players would pick a class because certain weapons were locked to that class, meaning they weren't making the most of their gadgets. The specialists system allows you to have whatever loadout you want, and your chosen specialist's gadget and trait go on top of that loadout.
We only have information on the first five specialists, but EA has confirmed Battlefield 2042 will launch with ten. Picking the right specialist boils down to which gadget and trait you are drawn to.
Far Cry 6 is a vast first-person shooter that's been constructed from the same mould as its predecessors. You are to liberate a land and leave plentiful bullet casings in your wake, only this time it's the heart of the Caribbean that needs clearing, not the US or the Himalayas. Still, it remains undeniably fun running between map markers and earning rewards, if a bit one-note. A good time is guaranteed, but a memorable one? That depends on whether your brain shelve what feels like 2,000 hours of guerrilla warfare without it being reduced to paste.
A week after launch New World continues to see hundreds of thousands of players logging on to get a piece of that sweet new MMORPG action. Just this weekend, the game nearly hit a million concurrent players on Steam. But with that popularity has come long queues, and some players are going AFK once they get in so they don't lose their spots if they can't play immediately. It should be harder for them to hog server space now though, because Amazon Games released New Worlds' first post-launch patch last night, changing some AFK rules.
Far Cry 6 on PlayStation 5 "When tyranny becomes law, resistance becomes duty." This Thomas Jefferson quote is retorted by Far Cry 6's protagonist Dani Rojas at a significant moment in his battle against the game's chief antagonist and Yara's dictator Anton Castillo. It stuck in my head for two reasons: firstly, it perfectly sums […]
Far Cry 6, the latest offering in the franchise, is almost here. It's releasing tomorrow via Ubisoft's official store and the Epic Games Store. It's an action-packed extravaganza set in the Caribbean where you play as a guerrilla leader to thwart the ambitions of a ruthless dictator. While Far Cry 6 does have a lot going for it, including a massive open-world map and countless activities, there were also several problems that I experienced during the course of this review. These issues ranged from simply being unable to use the in-game store to a multitude of crashes. Although we've tried to clarify these matters with Ubisoft, we've yet to receive a response. Welcome to Yara Far Cry 6 takes place in the fictional Caribbean country of Yara. Still, based on tidbits of information and the historical backdrop, you'll notice that Yara is like a stand-in for Cuba. The nation is ruled by "El Presidente" Anton Castillo (played by Gianca...
