| PCGamesN Monday, October 25, 2021 7:33 AM | | Recent reports suggest that Intel's Alder Lake gaming CPU could cost as much as an Nvidia RTX 3080, making it a potentially expensive endeavour. Of course, reusing your existing cooler could help keep costs down, especially since overclocking Intel's flagship chip will require something more sophisticated. However, it turns out that using your setup might come with some compatibility caveats, according to a report published by Wccftech. The report in question includes a leaked image of three AIO coolers; an MSI K360 with LGA 1700 support, Corsair H115, and CoolerMaster ML, the latter of which require LGA 1700 upgrade kits. While the residual thermal paste on MSI's cooling solution looks fairly normal, both Corsair and CoolerMaster's cold plates seem to feature signs of uneven distribution. The pressure difference is seemingly a symptom of the Alder Lake line's lower Z-stack height, as even a difference of 1 mm can create cold plate and CPU contact issues. As Intel's 12-generation processors rely on efficient cooling, especially if you're planning on overclocking, the problem could hamper the performance of some gaming PCs that use upgrade kits and brackets. | PCGamesN Monday, October 25, 2021 6:30 AM | | A new Destiny 2 orb generation glitch has been discovered that's so bad it can get players banned by Bungie. The so-called Min/Max glitch can create ridiculous amounts of power orbs, but a fix might not be coming until December - which is why Bungie has put in a Rutabaga error to counter it with "escalating restrictions". Since the power orb system was added, there have been many glitches discovered by players on ways to produce far too many of them - that's pretty much the only thing the Telesto Exotic rifle is good for, for example. However, this new exploit is different as it's not something Bungie can easily disable. As commented on by Destiny 2's senior community manager dmg04 on Twitter, this particular PC-only exploit was discovered earlier this year by a group who reported it to Bungie - who have been working on a fix ever since but as it's such "an incredibly deep and difficult to fix bug" the team is still estimating December for its release. | PCGamesN Monday, October 25, 2021 6:05 AM | | Now that League of Legends patch 11.21 has made its way to live servers, it's time to take a look at what's next for Riot's popular MOBA game. We're slowly coming to the end of the League of Legends' 2021 patch schedule, but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty still ahead. The headline of this patch is the raft of Preseason 2022 changes. Riot says that the tweaks will be available on the PBE for the next four weeks to ensure the team gets all the feedback it needs before going live with the final set of updates in November. The developer also says that things are pretty early, so expect changes to things like icons, item and effect names, visual and sound effects, stat values, and more. That's not all you're getting, though. Jayce and Vi are also getting some rather dapper looking Arcane skins, while Blizcrank will have a Victorious skin, as victorious is he. The patch cycle has just begun, so there's still much more to come, but we're off to a nifty start. RELATED LINKS: Best LoL Champions , League of Legends patch 11.20, LoL tier list

| PCGamesN Monday, October 25, 2021 6:18 AM | | Age of Empires 4 launches later this week, and our review finds this latest entry in the beloved RTS series one worthy of its kingly stature. Prior to the game's imminent release, Microsoft has updated its system requirements which should aid players with ageing gaming PCs get started on building their own empires. Changing the course of history won't need the best graphics card or best gaming CPU, as the game accommodates rigs of all ages. In fact, you might not need an upgrade at all thanks to the new minimum system requirements. Following the Age of Empires 4 stress test earlier this year, the developer noted a large portion of its player base were still playing previous Age of Empires titles on older gaming laptops and rigs. This meant the game "needed to support a diverse set of PC configuration", according to Michael Mann, executive producer at World's Edge, in an interview with Xbox. | PCGamesN Monday, October 25, 2021 4:48 AM | | The big day is fast approaching. Age of Empires 4's release date is set for October 28 - so just a few days away from now - but we can already get a good idea of what the imminent RTS game will bring when it lands. The reviews have just begun pouring in, so let's take a look at what the critics have made of the strategy game series' next major instalment ahead of its arrival. So far, it looks like Age of Empires 4 has been warmly received by reviewers, with the game currently sitting at a very healthy aggregate score of 84 on Metacritic and 86 on Opencritic. While there's naturally a little variation from site to site, most scores place it near the top of the scale, with plenty of reviewers putting it somewhere around the eight or nine-out-of-ten mark, though some have scored it higher. In PCGamesN's Age of Empires 4 review, senior news writer Ian Boudreau gives it an eight-out-of-ten, noting that "the legendary real-time strategy series has returned with a surprisingly traditionalist new entry". Ian concludes that, "polishing a classic formula without revolutionising it, this is a robust package that includes something for just about every kind of RTS player, from beginners to grizzled veterans". | PCGamesN Monday, October 25, 2021 3:03 AM | | Real-time strategy games have never really gone away, but the past decade has seen their glory much diminished from the heady days of StarCraft's peak. Age of Empires IV arrives like a long-lost claimant to the RTS throne - one whose titles have since been absorbed into neighbouring kingdoms. Whether there's room left for a demanding, macro-driven series like Age in the modern landscape is very much an open question, but one thing is clear: this is Age of Empires almost exactly as you remember, and some more besides. Given the backlash Relic faced a few years ago over its experiments with Dawn of War 3, it's perhaps not surprising that this time out, the studio has hewed much closer to the established order. Age of Empires IV feels almost shockingly like Age of Empires II. Each bark from a selected worker and thud of a battering ram against castle masonry feels just how I remember in Age II, albeit filtered through more than two decades of nostalgia. For readers new to the series - and there should be quite a few of you given it's been 16 years since the last numbered entry - Age of Empires is a historical real-time strategy series about building and defending a settlement. In a standard game, you'll extract resources and invest them in structures and soldiers, which you'll then use to knock down whatever your opponent is building. There are other paths to victory as well: you can win by controlling all of a map's sacred sites for a set amount of time, or by building and defending a wonder. | PCGamesN Monday, October 25, 2021 7:33 AM | | Minecraft Live 2021 has come and gone, but not without a whole lot of detail about what to expect from Minecraft's next update. Well, Minecraft's next, next update. The 1.18 release date with many of the Caves and Cliffs part two features is still coming this year, but now Minecraft 1.19 has been confirmed as The Wild update. The Deep Dark features have been delayed out of Caves and Cliffs part two into The Wild update, and the devs at Mojang showed off how the sculk spreads with a catalyst block, and noisy shrieker traps that will summon the Warden, a new hostile mob that can be found lurking in the Deep Dark biome. We can still expect to see lush caves and dripstone caves, as well as new snowy biomes to explore when the second part of the Caves and Cliffs update releases later this year. For now, here's everything we know about what's coming to The Wild update next year including new mobs, biomes, and blocks. RELATED LINKS: Minecraft console commands, Minecraft skins, Minecraft mods

| Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, October 25, 2021 3:01 AM | | It's tempting to bang on about the history of Age Of Empires, but let's be real here, you already know it well enough. Even if you haven't played them, the Age Of Empires games were a pillar of RTS design, and probably the most popular candidate for a comeback since publishers largely abandoned the genre in the 2000s. Let's not argue about which of its elements is the defining one. They're base building, four-resource-gathering contests between factions based on historical world powers, and progress throughout a match happens in explicitly tiered eras that loosely represent historical ages. Age Of Empires 4 has all of that, across four 9-mission single player campaigns, 17 skirmish maps (which can be slightly modified with seed numbers, and we're told more map options are coming), and 8 playable, well-differentiated and slightly unequal civilisations. And I kinda like it. Read more

| PC Invasion - FeedDDD Monday, October 25, 2021 3:15 AM | | Inscryption has a plethora of cards for you to collect. Most of them have decent functions, though a select few can truly turn the tide of battle. You'll definitely want to maximize the capabilities of your creatures by boosting them further. Here's our Inscryption guide to help you with the best cards, Deathcards, and sigil combinations for Act 1. Note: For more information, check out our Inscryption guides and features hub. Inscryption guide – The best cards, Deathcards, and sigils (Act 1) Starter deck As a rule of thumb, each death you have in Inscryption leads to two things: you'll restart your run from the first area, and you'll get to design your own Deathcard (I'll discuss this later). Now, since this is a rogue-lite, you'll have a starter deck with low-tier cards. But, you'll still retain some important ones, such as the Stoat, Stinkbug, and Stunted Wolf. The Stoat is handed to you early in the campaign. The other two, m...

| PC Invasion - FeedDDD Monday, October 25, 2021 3:01 AM | | The Age of Empires series has always reveled in taking players all over the world and deluging them in history. From the Egyptians carving a place for themselves in the Nile River Valley to the Iroquois helping Washington cross the Delaware, there are plenty of opportunities to depict famous conflicts that are too often ignored by other mediums, and Age of Empires IV continues that trend with aplomb. No gunpowder? No problem. Blast from the Past Relic Entertainment picks up the reins this time, and they are no strangers to the real-time strategy genre, having previously brought us award-winning titles such as Homeworld and Company of Heroes. Age of Empires IV spans 500 years, from the Dark Ages to the Renaissance, and features four factions over four campaigns: The 1066 Battle of Hastings, the Hundred Years War, the Mongol Invasions, and the Birth of Moscow. Each story is about eight missions each. Every encounter is interspersed with high-quality narrated cutscenes that merge drama...
