Grand Theft Auto V is one of the best-selling games of all time. It has sold over 160 million copies since it was first released back in 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360.      Baldur's Gate 3 D&D dev explains why you can't kiss a Mind Flayer

As the latest game from the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2, D&D RPG Baldur's Gate 3 offers players similar levels of choice-based gameplay - so one player asked developer Larian why it wasn't possible to romance one of the game's monstrous Mind Flayers. It's all about respect, apparently.

The Mind Flayers are the main antagonists of Baldur's Gate 3, the still in development Dungeons & Dragons RPG from Larian Studios. The monstrous tentacle-mouthed psychic Illithids are horrifying creations that most people wouldn't want to get romantically involved with, but no one should underestimate just how horny D&D players can get.

User @calamarti on Twitter sent a report in Larian about an issue she had with Baldur's Gate 3 - specifically, how disappointing it was that it wasn't possible to kiss or romance a Mind Flayer in the game. What made it even more fun was that Larian responded, in all seriousness, and suggested that they originally planned to let players kiss Mind Flayers but it's not what the monsters would've wanted.

Dune: Spice Wars reveals the first details on its villains

The first new Dune strategy game in over 20 years has revealed some details on the series' main villains. The Dune: Spice Wars House Harkonnen faction will give players the chance to be ruthless, underhanded, shady, cunning, and just generally have a blast.

As anyone who saw the movie will know, the main two factions in the first Dune are the Atreides and the Harkonnens. While the Atreides is the good guy faction, we're sure many players will gravitate to House Harkonnen - the villains of Dune - and developer Shiro Games has now revealed a few details on the faction everyone will choose first.

The Harkonnens are described as being a "formidable force on the battlefield" but also are prepared to "employ any and all underhanded tactics at their disposal to achieve their goals". They are able to use "shady politics, assassination, or cutting-edge spying" outside of battle, but soldier units are described as "mindless and fanatical war machines" that are little more than cannon fodder to their commanders.

Lost Ark is now the 5th game to hit a million concurrent players

February 12, 2022: The Lost Ark player count is now over a million, just a day after launch.

The latest online MMO from Amazon Game Studios, Lost Ark, is finally out now on Steam - where it's doing record numbers, hitting a peak of over a million concurrent players on its second day despite the game's servers struggling to keep up. In fact, it's the fifth-highest player count Steam has ever recorded and only the fifth game ever to break over a million concurrent players.

Lost Ark may have originally launched in Asian territories all the way back in 2019 but it finally came out on Steam worldwide yesterday, give or take a few hours. It was already immediately apparent that it was going to be a huge hit, but now that the free-to-play version is out Lost Ark is doing ridiculous numbers.

According to SteamDB, on its first day as an official free-to-play release Lost Ark hit a concurrent player count peak of almost a million people - that's 984,111 players. Now, less than a day later, that peak has gone up to 1,016,677 players - and it's only going to rise.

Final Fantasy XIV is getting another deep dungeon

At the present moment, there are only two Final Fantasy XIV deep dungeons in the entire game - giant, multi-layered roguelite experiences that can be a real challenge to get through. According to director Naoki Yoshida, though, a new deep dungeon is being added in an update before the game's next big expansion.

A lot of Final Fantasy XIV players have been asking for more deep dungeon challenges for a long time now. There are only two in the MMO right now - Heaven-on-High and Palace of the Dead - and the most recent was added in patch 4.35 as part of the Stormblood expansion run back in 2018.

Now, four years later, it finally seems like Square Enix is ready to start giving players more deep dungeon roguelite challenges - and by the sounds of it, there could be more than one. In an interview as part of the Korean Final Fantasy Festival, Naoki Yoshida was asked about the addition of more deep dungeons - and he confirmed that more were coming.

What if: GoldenEye 007 had been designed for PC?

There's a beautiful, industry-shaping moment less than a minute into the opening "Dam" mission of GoldenEye 007, in which you ascend a watchtower and find a sniper rifle. It's instantly clear what you're meant to do: grab the sniper, zoom in on some bad guys, and shoot them in the face.

Please understand, in 1997 the term 'FPS' carried certain expectations like... labyrinthine levels, coloured keys, and mindless monsters. Then along comes Rare with a licensed Nintendo 64 FPS, which throws every pillar of shooter design out the window, save for the exploding barrels. Its levels feature a healthy balance of stealthy sequences and murder marathons, and the environments include a range of challenging side objectives. More importantly, every enemy you face has a brain: they'll guard and patrol areas, flinch based on where you shoot them - no one expected the Donkey Kong Country studio to invent the crotch shot - and take cover when in combat. And if you don't make a sound or get spotted, they'll carry on with their business.

All of this technological and level design advancement, and yet Bond can't jump. Isn't that weird? Sure, the original Doom Guy can't jump either, but most FPS game protagonists that came after him could leap like salmon. To be fair, squeezing a dedicated jump button onto the N64's unique controller would have been no mean feat. But what if history had taken a different course and Rare had instead developed GoldenEye for PC? Could the humble spacebar have resulted in a bunny-hopping Bond? And if so, what else might have changed beyond the foul fuzz of 240p?

Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth's Story Hints at What's Next

The original Record of Lodoss War anime series both conclude with happy endings. Lodoss is at peace. Parn got his answers and became a hero. He and Deedlit literally ride off into the sunset together. There's the promise of new adventures together. But there's also the mystery of what happens next. Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth attempts to offer a possible resolution. In so doing, it also broaches the idea of how Deedlit's life might change and how things might go as time passes.

Editor's Note: There will be story spoilers for Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth below.

Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth's Story Hints at What's Next

This is because of the obvious. Deedlit is an elf and Parn is a human. During the Record of the Lodoss War anime, she's 160. He's 18 when he first deals with the goblins plaguing his hometown. There's a gap. We know she's going to outlive him. As Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth's story begins, it seems like this could be an adventure set not long after the adventures we know of. Karla offers Deedlit a bargain as the adventure begins. We see her encounter people like Parn, Etoh, Ghim, and Slayn. She happens upon spirits she knows and fought with. We see nostalgic enemies. It offers the illusion of familiarity.

But it's clear something isn't right. The game hints that there's a wish that can be granted if Deedlit goes through these trials. There are moments of distortion. The screen flashes and shakes. There's a dreamlike quality to it all.

That's when the twist hits. Parn is dead. This isn't a new adventure for them. It is Deedlit coming to terms with the loss.

Deedlit, in her grief, ended up in this world. She only remembers the truth as the player reaches the final boss. (Though prior to this, there are hints of what's coming.) It's then that the sense of understanding and heartbreaking nature of it all comes into play. The stories we know present an ideal. But it is one that can't last forever. The adventures Parn and Deedlit could have together are limited by his lifespan. Not hers. Which means that the whole adventure is a coping mechanism. It is her deciding what is next for her. (If there is anything at all.)

Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth's Story Hints at What's Next

It means Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth's story must end in the only way possible, which is with acceptance. After fighting through it all, she has to part ways with Parn. She even admits how it would be easier to forget, something she did for much of the game. It's only when she moves on that she escapes and wakes up in her home. She steps out to see Leaf, a half-elf, waiting for her. The ensuing conversation hints at exactly how long Deedlit sequestered herself after losing Parn. It even offers an explanation for it all, suggesting the Spirit of Loneliness is behind it, and suggests she'll move on by composing a song.

It reminds me of another Japanese story about an elf. Like Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, Frieren shows a long-lived elf's journeys years after the journey with her human allies that made her a hero. It's a different take on "how does someone cope." We still get those vignettes and memories. But in both, there's this sense of showing what happens to someone who can live for hundreds of years after their shorter-lived loved ones pass away. In each, we get this sense of what they are emotionally going through, how they deal with it, and what they're going to do now that they're able to move onward.

As someone familiar with the series, it made everything more satisfying for me. It would have been easy to pick up with what's next for both Parn and Deedlit. There are plenty of plausible adventures the two could experience. Going with one showing that Deedlit's life as she knows it changed, due to something we all knew would happen eventually, turned it into the best possible experience for me.

Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

The legend of Heroes Rixia Crow Figure

Rixia Mao and Crow Armbrust figures from The Legend of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie are on the way. Kotobukiya revealed that it is working with Nihon Falcom to develop figures of the two characters. There is no information on pricing, release dates, or what type of figure it will be. Furthermore, Kotobukiya is also selling two other scale figures of Legend of Heroes' Altina and Rean.

Both Rixia and Crow have appeared in several The Legend of Heroes titles in the past, including multiple Trails of Cold Steel games. They are also playable characters in Trails Into Reverie. Rixia is a performing artist and successor of the Yin title. Crow first appears as a student at the Thors Military Academy. The figures will be based on their appearance in Trails Into Reverie. Notably, the announcement image also shows both characters wielding their main weapon of choice.

Kotobukiya is also selling two other figures of Altina Orion and Rean Schwarzer. Kotobukiya announced these figures in a similar fashion back in 2020. As the announcement illustrations closely resembled the final product, chances are that Rixia and Crow will also be the same. Both Rean and Altina are immediately available on the Sideshow official website. Rean will cost $200, while Altina will cost $150.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie Rixia and Crow figures are in development. There is no confirmed release date or pricing information.

Danganronpa Nendoroid Pins

More Danganronpa characters are joining Good Smile Company's Nendoroid line, though not as figures just yet. Pre-orders opened for a new series of Nendoroid Pins based on Danganronpa characters.

The Danganronpa Nendoroid Pins reflect the distinctive chibi style of the figure line, with an enlarged head and face and smaller body proportions. The pins themselves have a base of cast zinc alloy and an electroplated black finish. They stand two inches tall, and include a custom Nendoroid stand and packaging. Deluxe pin backings are also included.

https://twitter.com/GoodSmile_US/status/1492196805647507457

The characters covered by the initial lineup span come from Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. Junko Enoshima, the Ultimate Fashionista, represents the first game's cast. Ultimate Gamer Chiaki Nanami represents the second game's roster. Monokuma, as the series mascot, has played a role in all Danganronpa titles to date. Of the three characters, only Monokuma has an actual Nendoroid figure, released back in 2013. Chiaki received a 1/8th scale figure, while Junko appeared in the Pop Up Parade line. A Junko Nendoroid is in development.

Unlike some of the other announcements put forth at WonHobby 35, Good Smile Company opened pre-orders for the Danganronpa Nendoroid Pins on the Good Smile US store as well as its Japan and international outlets. On the US store, each pin costs $14.99 USD. The pins are listed for release in May 2022. Orders through the Good Smile US store will ship only to the US and Canada.

The pre-order period for the Danganronpa Nendoroid Pins will last until May 31, 2022. Both games represented by the pins are available on PS4, PS Vita, Android, iOS, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Release Date

Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen will begin airing in Japan in 2023. While a proper release date has not been confirmed, Studio MAPPA said that it will announce further details later. There is no confirmed international release.

MAPPA announced the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 release at a special viewing of the recent Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel movie. Veteran voice actress Megumi Ogata, who plays the movie's protagonist Yuta Okkotsu, appeared at the event alongside other actors. Previously, MAPPA teased that a "major announcement" would occur at the event. Additionally, MAPPA said that the first season of the anime would re-run on Japanese television starting April 2022.

https://twitter.com/animejujutsu/status/1492434543193718786

Series creator Gege Akutami also provided a special illustration of Yuta Okkotsu and his companion Rika. Akutami thanked fans, as well as everyone involved in production, for their continued support and the success of the latest movie. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has grossed over 10 billion yen since it released in December 2021, becoming one of the fastest-grossing anime movies of all time.

MAPPA has taken a relatively tight-lipped approach to sharing news about the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. Prior to the release announcement, MAPPA revealed the voice actors for the new villains in the upcoming Death Painting Arc back in March 2021.

The release date for Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 will fall in 2023. There is no confirmed international release date or platform.
