Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, March 17, 2025 6:24 AM ![]() R.E.P.O is a six player co-op extraction spooper that currently sits atop Steam's best seller charts, having amassed around 70k players the week following early access launch on Feb 26, and another 160k since then. That's around 230 thousand players avoiding knifey chef frogs and persistent ducklings while extracting valuables to fill a cash quota. It's a bit Lethal Company but even heavier on the absurdity. As far as I can tell, this popularity comes down to two things. Firstly, the game is a verdant flub factory, stuffed with the sort of chaotic physics mishaps that translate very well to short video clips. Even the loot extraction point can kill you if lingered in too long. Secondly, the 'Jim Henson does Nier Automata' robots you play as flap their mouths in time to your mic chatter, making even the most bowel-curdling fear shrieks from your teammates look like a hammy comedy routine. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, March 17, 2025 6:15 AM ![]() Back in Total FebWar, the Total War: Warhammer III team penned a desperate missive in entrail fluids, full of scrawled warnings about the changes coming to the strategy game's AI. With their last ounce of strength, they rolled out a beta test for the planned tweaks. Now, the results are in, circling in the eerily fallow wake of over 50,000 campaigns, like carrion crows with tangible datasets grasped tight in their beaks. Thanks, death crows! The new query system worked well, with foes no longer cowering from lone enemy agents as if they were doomstacks. The tweaks to faction aggression and potential were shakier, causing some unintended consequence. As such, the upcoming 6.1 patch won't include changes to how fighty or flourishing your foes are. "Faction Potential changes made minor factions significantly easier to defeat for major factions," reads the blog. "This in turn caused Elector factions to perish too early and to be ineffective even when brought back". Makes sense. Can't summon the dead, unless you're one of the several Warhammer factions that can actually do that quite easily. |

Konami revealed some new details about Silent Hill f protagonist Hinako Shimizu. On the official Japanese website for the game, the developer described the title as a story of beautiful and horrific choices and shared a rough profile of the new Silent Hill protagonist.
Hinako is a teenage girl living in the rural Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, located in a mountain region of Japan. She is described as struggling to meet the idealized image that her parents, her friends, and society push onto her. She used to be a cheerful and lively child, but it's apparently been a long time since she last smiled.
Her life, though dull and gray, is that of an ordinary teenager. However, her normal life is suddenly shattered when the town is surrounded in fog and undergoes a horrific and disgusting transformation. During her journey, Hinako has to face choices in order to survive, solve the mystery of the town, and to kill that which must be killed.
Furthermore, the ESRB released details about the content of the game. The board assigned it a Mature 17+ rating. The game is described as containing blood and gore, intense violence, and partial nudity. The types of enemies described by the board include humanoid monsters, mutants, and mythical creatures. The ESRB also indicated that Hinako will be using axes, crowbars, knives, and spears to defend herself and kill enemies in melee combat in Silent Hill f, and the description referenced the actions of the character and others.
Some of the gore elements were also described, with some enemy attacks being able to impale Hinako in the neck or get her face ripped apart. Additionally, it seems like there will be a character being burned alive inside a cage, as well as a woman branded by a hot iron. We already saw Hinako's face being sliced off in the first official trailer for Silent Hill f that appeared during the March 2025 Transmission livestream.
Silent Hill f is currently in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Bandai teased that a new Digimon Card Game mobile project is currently in development. More information on this new project will appear at Digimon Con, which will be held at 7pm PST/10pm EST on March 19, 2025.
The new project was revealed during the second day of the Bandai Card Games Fest 24-25 that was held in Japan between March 15-16, 2025. The company revealed the game with a short teaser trailer showing a Renamon picking up a smartphone. After it does, it is turned into data and transported inside the device.
The teaser is only 14 seconds long, and you can check it out here:
The trailer appeared at the 2:48:16 mark during the Bandai Card Games livestream, during which one of the Bandai representatives and hosts said that they couldn't offer any more information yet, but that more would be revealed at the Digimon Con YouTube livestream that will release on March 20, 2025 at 12pm JST.
At the time of writing, it is unclear what type of project it will be, as but considering the content of the teaser and the recent popularity of mobile trading card games such as the recent Pokemon TCG Pocket, there's a chance this could be a new Digimon TCG mobile app. As a reminder, right now only an official Digimon Card Game tutorial app exists via the Google Play store and the iOS App Store.
A new Digimon Card Game project will be revealed during Digimon Con on on March 19, 2025 at 7pm PST/10pm EST.

Hailed as one of the best Japanese video games of all time, Ever 17: The Out of Infinity is set to exhilarate readers once again on modern consoles, along with, for the first time in English, its prequel Never 7: The End of Infinity. Despite the dated visuals and humor, the story for both games hold up well. However, it might take someone with no emotional connection to the series a while to warm up to them thanks to the slow pacing.
As a disclaimer, I'd like to put out that I did not play the original versions of either game. So I have no proper reference point for how the remaster compares. The 2025 remaster of Ever 17 uses the 2011 Xbox 360 remake's script, though it preserves the 2D visuals of the initial PS2 and Dreamcast releases. This script also introduced some changes to the characters and story. But since, again, I never experienced the actual original version, I have little of an opinion on how this affects the enjoyment of someone who'd been a fan of the Infinity series since the turn of the century.
![]()
Both Never 7 and Ever 17 are visual novels that advance via text and voice-acting, with accompanying character sprites and occasional stills. Player input is limited to the occasional dialogue option. Choices range from the mundane (a slight change to a character's reply) to the drastic (which character you play as). If you prefer visual novels where your choices have more direct consequences, or ones that feature more active gameplay, these aren't for you. Thanks to the all-star cast and their phenomenal performances, though, the games can pull you into the story quite well, which can stave off the monotony of reading for hours on end.
While both stories have different plots and focal themes, they center around the protagonist trapped in a situation (a time loop in Never 7 and an underwater facility in Ever 17) and trying to escape while deepening their bonds with the people around them. In Ever 17, you play as either Takeshi Kuranari or "Kid," a boy with amnesia. They're both visiting the water park of LeMU when a leak traps them in the underwater portions of the facility. With only 119 hours until the facility implodes, they, along with other stragglers, need to find a way to either escape or contact the surface for assistance.
Meanwhile, in Never 7, you take on the role of Makoto Ishihara. He's a university student who's at a seminar resort with three other classmates. It doesn't take them long to befriend some locals of the island town they're staying in. Throughout the week, Makoto experiences precognitive flashes. At times, he just "knows" things he logically shouldn't. Other times, he sees a vision of disaster, with said disaster taking place moments later. Throughout the week, Makoto grows close with with one the girls in his new friend group. However, the girl usually dies, and he finds himself back at the start of the loop. Using his knowledge of the future, he seeks to prevent said death from occurring.
Both games feature a deep and gripping sci-fi story, though Ever 17 leans into it far more than Never 7 does. Never 7 can take a few detours into exploring Makoto's romantic escapades with the heroine of the given route, which can get frustrating if you're not really interested in that particular aspect of the story. Though both games have you retreading familiar ground multiple times, they make it easy to return to forks in the story, so you can explore other routes and options. I really appreciated this, considering how long each game is.

There's a nostalgic charm in how dated everything feels, especially in character sprites. The proportions and poses can be unapologetically wonky in a way I seldom see in modern games. Playing on the Switch in handheld mode, the presentation didn't look too bad, though a much larger screen may reveal flaws. At times, the artwork can straddle the line between "bad but charmingly earnest" to straight up "bad," but that's not something Mages can fix, I suppose. The age of the game doesn't affect the quality of the story, at least. I'm impressed at how the twists took me by surprise, considering these games are two decades old. So many sci-fi visual novels came out since then, and yet, certain revelations about the story or characters felt refreshing and creative. I can understand why these games still hold a special place in people's hearts.
That being said, the dated nature of the games isn't always positive. The writing, both the localization and the original text, feel like looking at time capsules from the past. It took me a long time to warm up to Ever 17, as You's interactions with Takeshi were so off-putting to me. I'm personally not a fan of this type of Rumiko Takahashi-esque slapstick humor. In the early hours of the group's time in underwater LeMU, they're so unnecessarily mean to Takeshi for comic relief that I kept having to pause and do something else because I just didn't want to read it anymore. Granted, we still see this kind of humor today.
Another reason for my initial aversion to You had to do with her being the group's walking encyclopedia. Uchikoshi likes to use her to slip in asides on history, mythology, and anthropology. Interesting, for sure. But You's explanations are so long and detailed in the dialogue that I dreaded seeing her anywhere on my screen, especially when not everything she brought up had to do with the story. This might be why I took less issue with Never 7's pacing, as Ever 17 already gave me an idea on what to expect.

Speaking of Never 7, I didn't realize until later that this remaster is the first time it got localized. It bucks modern conventions in localization, which made me believe it, too, used a script from long ago. Like with Ever 17, it doesn't bother to censor out any old-fashioned assumptions about gender that another studio might have to line up with Western sensibilities. It's a faithful adaptation of the Japanese script, but to the point that it had a negative impact on how comprehensible it is. Within my first two hours of Never 7, I had to replay the Japanese voice-over in a conversation since the translation for the line, while 100% accurate to the Japanese, felt like a non sequitur. Just because something is the literal translation doesn't mean it's the optimal one.
The "Kid" in Ever 17 is also an interesting oddity in the localization. "Kid" is the temporary name the characters christen the amnesiac boy with. When you play from his perspective, though, the text box for his name reads "Boy." After doing some research, it turns out that this is what the original version of the English script referred to him as. I'm not quite sure why they decided to change it. When they did, though, they must have used Find and Replace to change all instances of "Boy" to "Kid." Now, I can totally empathize with this. But when it's a word as common as "kid," you end up with some funny mistakes, like "kidding" becoming "Kidding" in the middle of a sentence.
As a fellow translator, I can appreciate how much text they must've had to go through, and can only hope the localization team had a healthy turnaround time. That being said, in the case of Ever 17, there are so many little issues that I thought a remaster would fix. Never 7, too, didn't quite read like a visual novel I expected in 2025 (I know the game is old, but the localization is new, remember?). The above issue with "Kid," for example, seems like an odd thing to leave in. When a story relies heavily on text to lay the groundwork for later twists, mistakes like putting Sara at a scene when she physically wasn't even there can lead to unnecessary confusion down the line.
As for the performances of the remasters, the port on the Switch ran fine for both games. I didn't encounter any bugs or issues. Being able to advance the text with either the analog stick or the A button was very convenient, as it gave my right thumb a break during long sessions. Since these games are long, the portability is great since this means you can play them on the go. If you can play it with a proper sound system, I would recommend that. The games' main selling points are the music and the voice-acting. The speakers on the Switch in handheld mode didn't do them justice.

To be frank, while I appreciated the complex yarn Uchikoshi wove, I wouldn't say Ever 17 or Never 7 are visual novels for everyone. It takes such a long time to get to the meat of the story that "It gets good, I promise" might not be enough for people with busy schedules. Going into these games knowing that critics and fans in the past considered them (especially Ever 17) absolute masterpieces of their time ended up highlighting the negative qualities for me. That being said, despite not particularly liking any character, I still felt genuine worry, joy, and relief for them throughout their adventures. It surprised me just how much I'd grown to care about everyone without ever noticing. To inspire such emotions, as well as the bittersweet sense of accomplishment upon reaching the various endings, is a testament to Uchikoshi's mastery of his craft.
Ever 17 and Never 7 are out on the PS4, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch.

To the delight of all who —like me— fell in love with her from the moment she first debuted in Soldier 11's Agent Story, Trigger can be considered one of the best and most unique stun agents in Zenless Zone Zero.
She is, however, also one of the most unconventional and less F2P-friendly agents to build in the game. So you can be fully ready for her arrival and awaken her full potential, here's the best Trigger build in Zenless Zone Zero.
Note: This guide was made based on both officially released/in-game information and leaks.
Table of contents
How to play Trigger
![]()
Going one step beyond Pulchra, Trigger is a stun agent capable of applying massive amounts of Daze while both on and off the field, the latter via her Aftershock coordinated-basic attacks (aka Harmonizing Shot and Harmonizing Shot - Tartarus). The attacks can be triggered by your on-field agent after she enters Coordinated Support following her Ultimate and EX Special, or in exchange for the Purge stacks she can gather in Sniper Stance.
To double down on her off-field focus, her Additional Ability then allows Trigger to boost her Aftershock daze by 1.5% for each point of Crit Rate she has above 40% (up to a maximum of 90% for a 75% DMG boost).
To make full use of this, Trigger's gameplan will always revolve around setting up her coordinated attacks and then bringing in your DPS in quick rotations, a feat you can easily accomplish by performing her Ultimate, EX Special, or taking as many shots as possible while in Sniper Stance before triggering a Quick Assist or a Chain Attack. Just make sure not to sleep on the high damage/daze her regular basic attacks also bring to the table.
Best W-Engines for Trigger
To no one's surprise, the best W-Engine for Trigger in Zenless Zone Zero will be her signature Spectral Gaze. Much like Caesar's Tusks of Fury with Impact, the W-Engine will be the best for her by a large margin via its 24% Crit Rate boost and tailor-made effect.
To be more specific, the engine will allow Trigger's Aftershock attacks to lower the DEF of targets by 25% and provide her with one stack of Spirit Lock (up to three stacks) per hit. Each stack will boost her Impact by 4%. Once all stacks are triggered, she will receive an extra 8% boost for a 20% Impact increase.
Although using an S-Rank Attack Engine featuring a Crit Rate substat —such as Ellen's Deep Sea Visitor and Nekomata's Steel Cushion— will be the safer pick if you don't have her signature, Lighter's Blazing Laurel and Qingyi's Ice-Jade Teapot are also worthy picks for Trigger. When equipped, the engines will mitigate the loss in Crit Rate compared to her signature via their 18% base Impact and easy-to-trigger/max out team-wide DMG boosts.
Best F2P W-Engine
The best F2P W-engine for Trigger in Zenless Zone Zero is the event-exclusive Marcato Desire. The 20% Crit Rate value will give you a huge head start in reaching her optimal value of 80%+. Available pretty much from the get-go, Anby's Demara Battery Mark II will be my main pick if you don't have any Crit Rate options via its 15% Electric DMG and Impact boosts.
Best Drive Discs for Trigger in Zenless Zone Zero
![]()
The best drive disc composition for Trigger in ZZZ is a 4-piece Shockstar Disco paired with a 2-piece Woodpecker Electro. Given her role and stat needs, this composition is a match made in heaven for Trigger, as while Woodpecker Electro will offer a more than welcome 8% Crit Rate boost, Shockstar Disco's 8% Impact and 20% basic attack Daze boost will add even more weight to her Aftershock and Sniper Stance attacks.
Best stats and substats
Since we will aim to maximize her Aftershock Daze boost, go with Crit Rate for the fourth partition, Electric DMG% for the fifth, and Impact for the sixth. Substat-wise, prioritize Crit Rate until you reach our goal of 80%+ (or come close to it if not using a Crit Rate W-Engine) before shifting your focus to Crit DMG. I know it will be hard, but aim to also have at least 100% Crit DMG once everything is said and done.
The best Trigger teams in Zenless Zone Zero
![]()
As her Stun DMG Multiplier and Daze buffs are universal, Trigger can be considered a great fit for most DPSs in Zenless Zone Zero. But that does not mean she doesn't have favorites, as the former and her ability to enable Quick Assists make her a particularly great fit for both Harumasa and Evelyn teams. SO Anby's ability to boost your team's overall Aftershock damage also makes her a dream pair for Trigger. You can check out an in-depth overview of the best Trigger teams below:
Best F2P Trigger team in ZZZ
![]()
The best F2P Trigger team in Zenless Zone Zero has Harumasa as its main DPS, her as its stun sub-DPS, and either Pulchra or Lucy in its third slot. This team will work just like our main Harumasa team and rely on Lucy for a boost in overall DMG while having in Trigger both a massive daze output and the ability to boost Harumasa's high-damage windows. Using Pulchra is only recommended after unlocking her sixth Cinema Mindscape's 30% universal DMG boost.
If you missed the chance to get our DPS of choice, pairing Trigger with Billy and Nicole can also work. Anton can also take on Harumasa's spot while leaving the core of our team intact, as Trigger will be more than enough to unlock his Additional Ability.
The best Bangboo for all Trigger teams
As a Stun sub-DPS, I don't recommend picking your Bangboo with only Trigger in mind. Instead, you should always go with one capable of empowering your main DPS, such as using Resonaboo when in teams revolving around Zhu Yuan or Snap if pairing Trigger with Astra and Evelyn. As excellent jacks-of-all-trades, both Knightboo and Butler can also be considered great choices for any team.

I'm an avid Steam Deck fan, but I'll happily admit that my use case for the device isn't to play the latest and greatest AAAs. It seems I'm in the minority here, however, as the infamously poorly optimized Monster Hunter Wilds is extremely popular on the Deck.
For performance purists in the audience, myself included, it may be downright unthinkable to play a game as ridiculously unoptimized as Monster Hunter Wilds on the Deck, but that's not stopping the community from enjoying the experience regardless. According to Valve's own list of the most popular games on the Steam Deck, Monster Hunter Wilds is hovering around the number 10 spot over the past month. Over on the Steam Deck subreddit, some users are about as perplexed as I am, asking what settings could people possibly be playing the game at for it to maintain a reasonable frame rate. With that in mind, I don't think there's anything "reasonable" about it. As Redditor NoxinDev puts it, "Crystal clear and smooth locked 10 fps (maybe a few dips) - Don't knock it until you try it." Sounds about right.
Poor performance is hardly an issue for Steam Deck fans of Monster Hunter Wilds
I'm obviously being half-cheeky here because I, too, started my gaming career on a device that could best be described as "humble" if I'm being polite about its capabilities. When a subpar gaming experience is all you can get, you're going to take it and, heck, will inevitably end up enjoying the game if the gameplay loop is good enough.
On that note, there's no denying the fact that Monster Hunter Wilds is a fun game. Since we know for a fact that Steam Deck users are extremely loyal to the device, broadly speaking, it shouldn't come as a huge shock that they'd at least try to run Capcom's fancy new flagship on it. There's a trick to it, though, and it makes Wilds kind of playable on the Deck: it's the aptly titled "Little Engine that Shouldn't" mod.
This mod, which I believe is an absolute must-have if you intend to seriously play Monster Hunter Wilds on the Deck, takes the game's graphics setting even lower than would otherwise be possible. According to the mod's creator, "you should be able to maintain ~30fps with framegen enabled using this config and the tweaks on this page, at 1024x640 with Quality upscaling, or Balanced at 800p. If you use Lite Environment and enable all of its options, you can manage close to a solid 30 at 1024x640 without frame generation."
If you're not sure how Frame-Gen works and whether it's going to feel right at sub-30 native frames per second, I highly recommend reading up on our primer on the technology. Personally, I'd advise against using it but definitely do give the Little Engine that Shouldn't mod a shot if you'd like to play Wilds on the Deck. It doesn't even look half-bad, all things considered!
Curiously, this whole thing brings up a point I made not long ago, that the Steam Deck isn't nearly as outdated as some might believe. Whether it's the only gaming device you have or if you just need to have cutting-edge AAAs running on it, it very well can eke out a playable and enjoyable experience in most modern releases. Even if we're talking about 30-ish FPS at ridiculously low rendering resolutions, that's a worthwhile experience for a particular kind of user. So, power to the people!

WWE 2K25 is the "Ultimate Warrior" of wrestling video games with an expansive suite of modes and characters to choose from. Unfortunately, one of its most promising additions for this year, The Island, feels a bit like a money grab.
That's because there's a low amount of currency being offered for playing the game and completing missions/objectives. But you can always buy some currency, right? Despite this, it's still a great game, and here's my review.
Can you smell what 2K is cooking?
WWE 2K25 offers so many modes that it may feel overwhelming, and for a yearly product, it's pretty impressive. There's the Showcase that represents the Samoan dynasty throughout multiple generations from The Rock's grandfather Peter Maivia to this current era's Naomi and Roman Reigns.
Paul Heyman alongside members of the current Bloodline like Roman Reigns gives a great description of each wrestler featured in the showcase. You get to know these wrestlers' history, the impact they've made on the industry, and knowledge of the growing hype for each match featured in the Showcase.
![]()
Each match seems to be more streamlined with fewer objectives, and the in-battle cutscenes are all seamless. There's no jarring transition between live-action and battle anymore, which is a huge plus. Except for the intro, we finally won't see the referees' faces or WWF logo getting blurred out during live-action sequences in the matches themselves.
WWE 2K25 does a great job of explaining each objective in the Showcase mode, but something I find annoying is the limited-time challenges. If you don't complete them, you'll miss out on the majority of the unlockables like Rikishi as a playable character. At points, it feels like you're not given enough time, especially if your enemy is able to counter your strikes or you get stuck in a punching animation (more on that later).
The Island is marred with microtransactions
The Island is WWE 2K25's biggest new offering. The overall concept is sound. You're exploring a well-designed theme park-like area, in which you challenge foes to be the very best and get yourself a WWE contract from Roman Reigns.
It makes you want a WWE theme park to explore in real life. You'll get all manner of quests to complete, such as defeating Gunther in a badass mech suit (I'm not kidding). These can be fun scenarios to finish as your custom character, even though the storytelling is made through a cheap PowerPoint-like production with static images and text.
Unfortunately, the in-game microtransaction system will leave your wallet just as empty as going to Disneyland or Universal Studios. The currency VC is given to players slowly and is required to upgrade custom wrestlers in the Training menu. You'll get 150 VC per match you win and 75 VC if you lose. Each stat point increase varies around 80-200, depending on the level. Despite this game being multiplayer-focused, you can pay-to-win as you can purchase VC for $99.99 which gets you 400,000 VC, and can drastically change your character, while $9.99 gets you 32,500 VC.
![]()
As you explore The Island, there are many cosmetics to purchase in various shops. In Becky & Seth's Driporium, you can get Rollins' ridiculous gnome-like red boots for 18,000 VC. To get this from in-game progression only, you'll need to complete 120 matches. That's a bit rough, and encourages players to purchase VC in my humble opinion. You can get VC from leveling up your rank, finishing challenges, and completing quests, but it's still a slow affair.
Free players will just have to ignore the cosmetics for now. Upgrading your wrestler is arguably more important than looking cool.
The Island is a genuinely fun mode, but the microtransactions do get to me a bit. Additionally, it isn't available offline, which is a shame. Another annoying factor is that you can't play The Island on PC, PS4, or Xbox One systems; it's only available for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players.
MyRise is fantastic
My two favorite modes MyRise and MyGM return in WWE 2K25 and show significant improvements. The storyline with MyRise is gripping as it tells the narrative of current and former NXT stars trying to take over WWE and end Raw and Smackdown. This time, you get assigned male and female superstars to represent the two main shows.
It does a great job of encouraging multiple playthroughs as the personality type you choose for your character (brash and bold or comedic) offers different story missions. The relationship between the male and female characters also changes depending on your choice, and it's constantly referenced.
The cool thing about MyRise (which makes it better than The Island) is that everyone is voiced. You'll be led by CM Punk during the beginning of the campaign and run into Jade Cargill if you choose that your character comes from a rival promotion. The voice acting from the wrestlers themselves is actually not that bad, and you'll get pulled into the backstage drama of WWE. There are some unexpected moments within MyRise, and it's entertaining to see a new story that differentiates from the Bloodline-obsessed WWE creative team of the last four or five years.
An improved MyGM
Next, MyGM has received some major improvements. First, you can play this mode with your friends online for the first time. However, it comes with some caveats. You can't use Custom GMs or rosters, in addition to losing the ability to play and spectate matches.
Second, MyGM now lets you use up to $4 million for the drafting process. The number of wrestlers you can pick up has greatly increased, letting you pick the superstars you want on your roster more easily. Third, the AI has been improved, especially during the draft. For example, if the AI picks Angelo Dawkins, it is more likely to complete the team by selecting Montez Ford, his teammate, next.
![]()
Fourth, MyGM has an expanded list of GMs from last year, increasing the number to 19. They each have their own perks at your disposal. Nick Aldis can add 10 weeks to a contract's duration, and Ava can prevent your superstars from getting injured during two separate shows. The mode's really been expanded. Lastly, there's an all-new approach to PLEs. Your wrestlers are fighting stars from other brands to get special perks for your brand. While it would have been nice to have the option to have normal PLEs like the last few years, it's a neat addition. You'll resolve rivalries on Week 4 and Week 5 now as you have one slot for a match on PLEs.
Despite missing the option to have regular PLEs, which should be added by the way, there are far more options for MyGM players. Likely inspired by YouTubers such as partsFUNknown, you can now place a timer on each player in-game. If someone goes over the time limit, they'll lose fans. Additionally, you can choose between the Hall of Fame trophies and the number of fans as the pre-requisite to win, adding more freedom to the player.
MyFACTION and Universe additions
MyFACTION and Universe have also returned in WWE 2K25. I have less experience with these mods as I usually touched Showcase, MyGM, and MyRISE in previous years. MyFACTION seems to be a fun experience as you collect cards and complete quests in the World Tour to proceed. It is annoying, however, that the game forces you to pick weaker cards in your line-up rather than giving you the freedom to pick the cards you unlock via VC or in-game progression from the get-go. The microtransaction system seems to be just as wild as The Island as you can use VC to get new card packs. There's a reason why I avoid MyFACTION like the Plague.
Universe has been improved in multiple ways. While the WWE superstars aren't talking during these segments, you can finally have them work on a promo in front of the crowd. The announcers weirdly explain what your wrestler is saying to their rival. It's certainly an improvement, however, as it gives you more customization on your booking experience. Plus, you'll be able to customize where each battle takes place. You can have a multi-day PLE, change the dates of specific shows, or simulate the Monday Night Wars once again and have two brands slugging it out on the same day.
WWE 2K25 plays well for the most part
But after all this, how does WWE 2K25 play? It's a mostly thrilling experience. Each move feels powerful and you'll likely wince at the punches, kicks, and suplexes these men and women dish out on each other. It's fantastic that you can finally have intergender matches and have a man and woman like Drew McEntire and Bianca Belair fight in the ring against each other. This is so long overdue.
Most attacks register perfectly in the game, but some eccentricities need to be worked out. Some attacks, when you feel like they're about to land, somehow miss the enemy, especially if there's an object blocking their path. The hitbox of some attacks is also quite strange as some wrestlers zoom from one side of the squared circle to the other in a flash. Sometimes strikes from a weapon that should hit your foe don't register, leading to an awkward few seconds of animation. Most of the time, it's fine, but you may be scratching your head at times.
![]()
Mostly stellar production value
The graphics of WWE 2K25 are stellar. You can really tell if a battle is getting to your rival. The blood and the sweat mix together in a natural way and look impressive on each model. You can see the scars on their body, showing the damage you've dealt to each other in the ring. Lighting seems to be improved across the board, and some of the facial animations when opponents get struck look impressive. The likenesses of most of the WWE superstars are spot on as well, and their entrances are simulated perfectly.
However, it has been said that Jey Uso's entrance from within the crowd is regrettable as members of the public do the YEET motion in the most robotic, unnatural way. Speaking of the crowd, they can be genuinely creepy to look at with their blank faces. You'll also notice your ringside managers performing actions at exactly the same time, taking you out of the game. It's genuinely creepy at points. There was also one point when my custom character's face was blackened and had a weird white shine during an entrance as well.
Something else of note is the sheer amount of commentary added to the game for different scenarios over multiple different modes. It's impressive.
WWE 2K25 improves upon the formula
WWE 2K25 is one of the biggest leaps in the series so far. While the Island is disappointing, the sheer amount of content in this game is unmatched. You have over 300 wrestlers with more DLC on the way, plenty of fun modes like the highly improved MyGM and the story-focused MyRise, and gameplay that still feels satisfying to pull off, even if the animations can be weird at points. It's just the microtransactions that really pull this game down.

Elsie is one of my favorite neighbors in Fields of Mistria. She's the flamboyant, self-appointed aunt everyone wishes they had growing up, and thanks to the game's second major update, she can use her mastery over the rumor mill to help you make friends and find romance.
With her new gossip feature, Elsie can tell you what each of Mistria's residents' favorite gifts are, making it much easier to elevate a casual acquaintance into full-blown friendship territory or sweep that special someone you've been eyeing off their feet. Here's how to unlock and use Elsie's gossip mechanic in Fields of Mistria.
How to complete the "Elsie's Gossip" quest in Fields of Mistria
![]()
You'll have to complete the "Elsie's Gossip" quest before Elsie will help strengthen your social circle. This quest showed on the quest board when I downloaded the second update, and as far as I know, you don't have to reach any other milestones to unlock it.
Elsie's Gossip requires you to talk to three other villagers: Balor, Juniper, and Dell. You don't have to speak to them in the order outlined in the quest, and I'd argue that talking to Juniper, then Balor, and then Dell leads to you getting the best-paced version of the comedy of errors that binds these three together.
Juniper tells you that certain "potion ingredients" have been disappearing from the bathhouse lately, forcing her to trade rubies with Balor to restock her supply. Balor reveals the ingredients are live newts, which only slightly terrifies him. Finally, Dell pulls the veil back on the big twist of the tale: she's been secretly snatching the newts out of Juniper's cauldron and releasing them into the wild, putting Mistria's resident sorceress in quite the pickle.
Once you've got the complete story, you need to track down Elsie and tell her the juicy details. You get to decide whether to keep Dell's operation a secret, but there doesn't seem to be any reward or consequence for revealing it or spilling the tea. Once you've filled her in, you'll unlock the ability to hear her gossip.
"How to use Elsie's gossip in Fields of Mistria
![]()
Elsie's gossip is one of several quality-of-life changes Fields of Mistria's latest major update added to make managing time and resources easier. When you go up to talk with Elsie, she can reveal one of your fellow Mistrians liked or loved gifts. This means you don't have to gift one of everything you grow, cook, or mine to all your neighbors to fill out their wishlists.
Unfortunately, Elsie's gossip comes with a few caveats. You can only gossip with her once daily, and she'll only offer to tell you about one of three randomly generated townsfolk's gifts when you talk to her. However, that's a small price to pay for knowledge that will help make your neighbors like you even more than they already do.

Team-based horror games have really come into their own over the last few years. The likes of Phasmophobia and Lethal Company have set new standards for multiplayer survival tactics. But now R.E.P.O. is set to become the new darling of the genre (if it isn't already).
At the time of writing, the game has claimed the number two spot on Steam's Top Sellers list. Given that the Steam Deck at number one is pretty much always number one – and is a piece of hardware anyway – that basically means R.E.P.O. is the top-selling game on the platform, ahead of Counter-Strike 2, Split Fiction, and Baldur's Gate 3.
On top of that, the third-party website SteamDB has recorded a peak concurrent player record of 230,645, achieved within the last 24 hours. To put that into perspective, Content Warning – a similar game with a focus on team survival horror – had an all-time peak of 204,439 players.
So what is R.E.P.O.?
If you haven't played it yet, now might be a good time to give it a go. In a nutshell, R.E.P.O. is an online multiplayer game that tasks players with working together in horror environments to achieve goals; in this case, retrieving valuables.
Visually, it looks kind of goofy, with oodles of humor thrown into the mix as players collaborate using the game's physics, all while avoiding the spooks that await. To that end, it's kind of similar to Lethal Company, which was also the talk of the indie horror community for a while.
In fact, the developer of Lethal Company has recently played R.E.P.O., referring to it as fun. Their experience of working in a group of other players to "move a grand piano through a cramped old mansion without scraping it" is the "most funny objective for a horror game," apparently.
It will be interesting to see how much longevity R.E.P.O. has. Typically, these types of games often enjoy brief but lucrative stints in the limelight before fading out, which is unfortunate. Developer semiwork is said to be working on an update. It's also worth noting that the game is in early access, so it's pretty cheap at the moment.

For as long as video gaming has been a thing, people have craved a dose of digital violence. Even retro, high-fantasy games like Morrowind aren't immune to the allure of on-screen savagery and the thrill of ending an NPC's life, even if it is tame compared to other titles.
But if you really want to get your blood thirst on in the third Elder Scrolls game, you might want to check out "Tis But a Scratch," created by Nexus Mods user CarlZee. Aside from the obvious Quest for the Holy Grail quote (gamers and Monty Python evidently go well together), this mod allows you to really go on a rampage in Morrowind.
![]()
It essentially gives you the ability to dismember characters in the game, though it should be said that it specifically mentions "on death," which sort of implies that you can't just lop an arm off of an unsuspecting citizen who's going about their day in Balmora.
You have to actually kill them first - dur
According to the description on the download page, CarlZee said Morrowind – or at least the vanilla release – is "a pretty tame game in terms of blood and violence." The result is a gorier mod in which the creator says takes cues from the likes of Fallout.
You can see how it works in this short gif, which shows the player going hell for leather on a bunch of characters, hacking away at appendages the way I flail my arms about when a wasp is nearby. I also like that the creator says dismemberment only works on NPCs "for now."
Some of the features of "Tis But a Scratch" include the ability to set the minimum damage. It supports the hacking off of the head, left and right arm, and both legs (because "body replacers usually combine leg parts"). Sadly, only severed heads are actually shown on the floor, but it looks like we'll get updates to rectify that at some point. Hooray.

Game creators are often trying to think of new ways to portray action and destruction, and PixelJunk Eden director Baiyon has hit on something novel. In developer Q-Games' Dreams of Another, creation and destruction are synonymous, and we'll be able to build the world by firing bullets sometime this year.
Dreams of Another was previously announced for PlayStation 5 and PSVR2. Now, with the latest update on what's to come, a Steam version has been thrown into the mix. You can see what it means when it refers to its philosophy of "no creation without destruction" in the trailer below.
Built around a surreal landscape, Dreams of Another explores what a game might be like if shooting created objects rather than destroying them. When the game was first showcased during PlayStation's latest State of Play in February, Baiyon followed up with a blog that further illuminated his efforts to put a new spin on third-person shooting.
The world that comes to life here is made possible through "cutting-edge point cloud technology." Players can make countless particles scatter and transform with each ping of a bullet, forming objects from fragments. Once created, many of the world's objects will then provide some form of interaction. It all centers on the emotional tale of two characters—The Man in Pajamas and The Wandering Soldier—with their stories coming to the forefront as you piece the world together.
Baiyon is a multimedia artist who also worked as a musician, so he tends to compose the music for games he directs. In the case of Dreams of Another, Baiyon went for an experimental blend of instruments, field recordings, and other non-instrumental sources. Hopefully, we'll see how this dreamy vision materializes soon.

The Genshin Impact 5.5 events have officially been revealed. As usual, the upcoming version will feature 5 new limited-time events that offer a ton of rewards, such as Primogems and a free 4-star character. Here are all the events you can look forward to in version 5.5.
All new events in Genshin Impact 5.5
Tournament in Glory of Bloom Event
Tournament in Glory of Bloom is the flagship event in Genshin Impact 5.5. The event features two different game modes called the Bloomflower Trials and Saurian Treasure Seeker.
![]()
The Bloomflower Trials game mode is an inter-tribal competition among the 6 tribes of Natlan that will test your offensive and defensive capabilities. For example, in an offensive battle with Mualani, you will form a team with her and try to capture the enemy's stronghold. Meanwhile, in a defensive battle with Varesa, you will help her defend against the attacks from the enemy tribe and prevent your flag from getting destroyed.

Looking for the best R.E.P.O mods? We've gathered a list of the 10 best R.E.P.O mods that you can download right now to either make your game easier or more entertaining. We've also included an explainer on how to install R.E.P.O mods to make the process as simple as possible.
In this guide:
More Players
![]()
True to its name, the More Players mod allows you to play with more friends and exceed the 6-player cap. Of course, the more people you add, the more unstable your game will become. Still, it may be worth a try if you want to add a couple of extra friends to the mix.
Download link: MorePlayers
REPO Roles
![]()
The REPO Roles mod aims to expand gameplay mechanics by adding 6 unique roles to the game. At the start of a game, you'll receive either the Runner, Tank, Gambler, Strongman, Ranged Looter, or Athletic role. Each of these has a unique buff like a faster run speed, strength, more hp, more range or a randomized buff and debuff. If gameplay is getting a little stale, this mod can be just the ticket to add a little depth to the game.
Download link: REPORoles
Infinite Stamina
![]()
This one may be a tad controversial as technically, buying Stamina upgrades are a core part of the game. I believe the Stamina system is a little too harsh, however. It feels like you can only run for a millisecond before your character gasps for breath. With the Infinite Stamina mod, you can literally run for hours without stopping. If you feel this is a little too close to cheating, there are other options like the Improved Stamina or More Stamina mods that lower Stamina consumption without removing it as a mechanic altogether.
Download link: InfiniteStamina, ImprovedStamina, MoreStamina
Shrinker Cart
![]()
The Shrinker Cart may possibly be my favorite on this list. When hovering loot above your crate, it will shrink down, making it more compact and easier to deliver to extraction points. The larger the item, the smaller it will get. This mod doesn't influence Strength, however, so you'll still need to upgrade your Strength stat to pick up heavier objects.
Download link: ShrinkerCart
Enemy Location
![]()
The Enemy Location mod does exactly what it says on the tin. It enables the minimap to pinpoint enemy locations with a red dot. R.E.P.O can be notoriously difficult, with monsters seemingly unstoppable and loot as fragile as glass. That being said, an early detection device like this can be an invaluable help when avoiding beasts.
Download link: Enemy Location
Infinite Energy Crystals
![]()
The Infinite Energy Crystals mod kits your truck out with an unlimited supply of Energy Crystals. This means you can recharge health and weapons without having to buy new Crystals each time. Removing this mechanic from the game makes it much easier and allows you to buy pricier weapons sooner.
Download link: InfiniteEnergyCrystals
More Heads
![]()
The More Head and Even More Head mods allow you to customize your player avatar with different hats, glasses, and other accessories. This is a fun cosmetic mod that just adds a bit more personalization to your game.
Download link: MoreHead, EvenMoreHead
Lego Gnomes
![]()
Gnomes are an absolute menace in R.E.P.O. They'll delightfully hop into your cart and break all of your precious loot while you look on in horror. Thankfully, you can return the favor and break these pesky creatures by grabbing and dropping them. The Lego Gnomes mod adds a lovely ASMR twist to all your gnome-bashing needs by applying the Lego brick-breaking sound effect for every Gnome slain. It's not exactly a useful mod, but it is pleasant to listen to after a stressful day collecting loot for The Taxman.
Download link: LegoGnomes
Team Upgrades and Team Heals
![]()
The Team Upgrades and Team Heals mods are clumped together here as they essentially do the same thing and have been created by the same modder. In essence, they allow you to share Health Packs and Upgrades amongst your team. Considering how pricey upgrades can get, this gives you a little breathing room and the opportunity to save up for other things like weapons and additional carts.
Download link: TeamUpgrades, TeamHeals
Custom Colors
![]()
The Custom Colors mod allows you to have more variety when selecting your avatar's color. It adds RGB sliders so you can go as neon as you like, which is helpful when navigating through the grainy maps of R.E.P.O. It's a simple mod that allows a bit more customization.
Download link: CustomColors
How to install R.E.P.O mods
![]()
Now you have a list of the best R.E.P.O mods to install, but that's no good if you don't know how to install them. Almost all of these mods require you to first install the BepInExPack. This is essentially the software framework for enabling mods in your game. To install the BepInExPack from the Thunderstore, navigate to the link and then click 'Manual Download' or 'Install with Mod Manager' if you have the Thunderstore app installed.
It is much easier to just install the Thunderstore app as you can download all of the above mods instantly instead of manually extracting the files.
If you choose the Thunderstore route, follow these steps:
If you wish to manually download the BepInExPack, follow these steps:
When you enter a R.E.P.O game afterward, the BepInExPack will boot up at the same time, but this can simply be minimized whilst you continue with your game.
Now you should be all set to take on your next treasure run with mods installed. For more R.E.P.O tips and tricks, see our list of all monsters in the game or our explainer on how to use Energy Crystals.

There are a million different reasons why we love handheld devices. In some cases, they're our main gaming machines, often the case with the Steam Deck and the Nintendo Switch. Others like to have a pocket-sized console dedicated to gaming on the go.
And then some of us just love how a classic Nintendo handheld feels in our hands. If that's you, then consider this. A Gameboy Color in decent condition costs about $50. A single game cartridge can be even more expensive.
For less than the price of those two, you could get a brand-new console instead, one that can emulate much more than just GBC games and whose appearance is, let's say, very reminiscent of those classic consoles. If that intrigues you, welcome to the world of stylish retro handhelds.
Miyoo Mini Plus
![]()
The Miyoo Mini Plus is a favorite of many, and you can easily see why. It looks really cute. It's like that Gen1 Pikachu drawing where he looks like a sack of potatoes. The Miyoo Mini Plus is the Gameboy's awkward little cousin that you can't help but love. It sure helps that it plays a lot more games than its cousin, it doesn't need any maintenance, and it's way more comfortable to hold.
The Mini Plus isn't as mini as the name implies, which gives it the space to place all the buttons needed to play many games (even from the Sony PlayStation). Not that it will play most PS1 games, but you're free to try. What it will play, a rarity in this space, is Pico-8 games, the fantasy retro console that hosts Celeste's debut and its sequel, Celeste Classic 2. If you're willing to spend some time setting it up, you can even browse and download Pico-8 games directly from the console.
ModRetro Chromatic
![]()
The ModRetro Chromatic might not be what you expect from a retro handheld. Most consoles in this space are based on messy software emulators that aren't set up properly for the hardware they run on and are often outdated. The Chromatic takes a completely different approach by emulating the console on the hardware level (without replicating the hardware itself) and supporting only Gameboy and Gameboy Color games.
The Chromatic certainly looks unique. A Gameboy Color that was painted over to be even more of a nostalgia trap. The screen is a much fancier version of the one found in the original Gameboy, with proper illumination this time. The price of $199, on the other hand, isn't so bright. Loading ROMs is hard, too, and it only emulates GB and GBC games. A passion project like this would normally garner sympathy from potential buyers, but does that apply when the founder is the extremely rich inventor of the Oculus Rift and all-around unpleasant guy Palmer Luckey? Odds aren't great.
Anbernic RG35XXSP Transparent
![]()
Anbernic makes a lot of retro-inspired handhelds, but none are quite as, uh, devoted to replicating the old hardware look as the RG34XX and the RG45XXSP. If you want some Gameboy Advance replicas that are not original and not perfect, it doesn't get much better than this. They can play every game that can be put in ROM format. And if you want something better, you want the white transparent RG35XXSP.
There's something mesmerizing about a see-through clamshell design and I can't believe Nintendo didn't capitalize on it in 2003, especially following the success of the transparent Gameboy Advance. That dream is now a reality, even though it had been a reality for a while thanks to custom console cases. The main difference between the RG35XXSP and a custom Gameboy Advance SP is that the Anbernic can play a lot more retro games than the three GBA titles you still have cartridges for.
Analogue Pocket
![]()
The Analogue Pocket might be the only emulator-based handheld that is as premium as it looks from afar. It better be, for $219.99. Add to that the extra cartridge adapter set and the dock, and you'll end up paying $420 dollars, a troubling number more in line with the price of a (cheaper) Steam Deck than a high-end retro handheld.
But let's forget about the console's design and its equally dazzling price. Why would anyone buy this good-looking piece of plastic? The Analogue Pocket has two advantages over other retro handheld emulators: the impressive 1600x1440 screen and the hardware emulation. Don't let that confuse you: when aimed at handheld consoles from 25 years ago, "hardware emulation" is indistinguishable from decent software emulation, if not for its ability to read game cartridges and, potentially, physical accessories.
Powkiddy RGB20 Pro
![]()
If you're going to get the Powkiddy RGB20 Pro, it will be for its look. The size and shape are almost identical to the more powerful Anbernic RG351V, which doesn't look half bad itself. However, what Anbernic's 4:3 high-rez Gameboy homage doesn't have is a neat see-through plastic body with some LEDs that are only there to look cool.
The screen resolution is quite decent, with 1024x768 pixels crammed into a 3.2-inch screen. It's not going to play anything more elaborate than SNES or Gameboy Advance pixel art anyway, maybe some fan-translated PC Engine if you're a weirdo (like me). It can technically do more, including N64, PlayStation 1, and Dreamcast, but don't expect any of those to run properly.
Powkiddy RGB30
![]()
The RGB30 is one of the most basic-looking products in Powkiddy's line of retro handhelds and it still looks stunning. The plastic is not premium quality, and as with most of those products, you shouldn't expect a nice finish, but the overall design is easy on the eyes. The RGB30 is available in a few different colors, including a nostalgic banana yellow.
The RGB30 comes with a 720x720 pixel screen, which, for its sub-$100 price range, is not bad. It offers handheld emulation of retro games as recent as the Sony PlayStation 1 and the Nintendo 64, though it hardly excels in those. And since the RGB30 is a popular model, you can find plenty of customization kits on sale online, from buttons to grips to sticker skins.
DY19
![]()
This DY19 might be ridiculously flimsy up close, and putting a power bank inside a retro console isn't the brightest idea, but at least it looks kind of cool! The rounded design and monochrome palette don't scream "sub $20 impulse purchase", which is the only market that the DY19 could ever call home. The screen border and the three mini-buttons are coated in a not-quite-gold color that doesn't exactly look premium but adds a nice contrast to the rest of the design. Unless you pick the light rose model, in which case it looks washed out and ugly. Don't get the light rose model.
I'd love to tell you about what's inside the DY19, the operative system that powers it, which consoles it can emulate, and how well it does, but there's basically no information about this console. I don't even know who makes the DY19 (EZGHAR is sometimes named in the listings). It seems to be sold only on Aliexpress and similar cheap import product websites, and it doesn't have a consistent manufacturer listed. If you buy this console, you do so with no way of knowing what you're really getting beyond the size of the integrated power bank (6000mAh) with USB mini, USB-A, and USB-C connectors. But hey, at least it looks cool.
Anbernic RG ARC-D
![]()
Most retro handheld consoles don't exactly hide their, uh, "inspiration", and Anbernic is no stranger to copyright disputes. But credit where it's due, it's not hard to distinguish yourself when making a copy. Instead of mimicking the popular Nintendo handhelds from the 1990s and 2000s, Abernic's RG ARC-D shakes things up by taking inspiration from Sega's failed GameGear handheld and the almost-forgotten Saturn.
It might be more appropriate, if a little mean, to say that Abernic's console looks like how the GameGear might have looked if it hadn't been extremely ugly, with a curve and button placement resembling that of the Saturn controller. The RG ARC-D is available in various colors, including cream white, dark grey, and a purple see-through reminiscent of the Gameboy Advance. While it doesn't have analog sticks, it's not very good at emulating any console that uses them anyway.

Going online and playing with other players in MLB The Show 25 is one of the best ways to enjoy the game, and there are different ways of doing it.
One aspect of online play is playing with and against your friends with the default squads, which include the updated lineups from all MLB franchises. Then there's the Diamond Dynasty mode, which is an entirely online-based mode. This guide will brief you on how to play online and compete with other players in MLB The Show 25.
How to play online with your friends in MLB The Show 25
Playing with another human being is pretty easy; all you have to do is have them on your friend list. If the two of you are on different consoles, there's no worry since MLB The Show 25 supports crossplay (turned on by default).
While playing online with your friend is fine, I am a bigger fan of the Diamond Dynasty mode.
How to play multiplayer games in MLB The Show 25 Diamond Dynasty mode
![]()
Diamond Dynasty is the ultimate test of your in-game skills as you create your dream team with different cards. The mode has a few singleplayer modes, but the online content will genuinely test you out.
From Ranked to casual, you can enjoy various games that will test you to your limits. Ranked is the most serious of all, as winning games will help you improve your ratings. Diamond Dynasty also allows you to play co-op with your friend if you think things are too competitive. The Casual mode is perfect if you just want to jump in and swing your bat a few times.
Additionally, plenty of rotating events will also be part of the Diamond Dynasty mode. Some of them will have customized rules that offer quicker gameplay and results. All things considered, there's plenty of multiplayer (and singleplayer action) in Diamond Dynasty.
That's pretty much all multiplayer aspects in MLB The Show 25's Diamond Dynasty mode. Do note that there are Now and Later packs you'll receive soon if you played MLB The Show 24, and they can provide you with a nice head start.

Whenever Destiny 2 adds new content based around the Hive and Taken, odds are at least one quest will ask you to defeat a set number of powerful enemies from one or both factions. Powerful Taken are, thankfully, pretty easy to find, and we'll show some of the best ones here.
All Taken Lost Sectors
![]()
The easiest sources of powerful Taken (larger, yellow-health bar Ultra variants) are the various Lost Sectors scattered about Destiny 2's destinations. They might not be the most efficient Taken farms out there, but they're by far the most accessible. As of The Final Shape, there are six Lost Sectors that feature powerful Taken enemies:
The best Lost Sectors to farm are the ones in the Pale Heart, as they come with at least two powerful Taken within them. If they're on the Legend/Master difficulty rotation, that number increases further.
Lost Sectors are also simple to farm. Ignore all the minor enemies and book it to the boss for the easier ones, like in the EDZ. For the more complex Lost Sectors, especially in the Pale Heart, you can mostly ignore the lesser enemies. There are progress gates in those, but you're rewarded with additional Taken to defeat. The trade-off is the extra time you'll need to get through the Sector.
For instance, every run of the Hallowed Grove in the EDZ took me no more than 30 seconds. If you include fast traveling back to the landing zone and reaching the Lost Sector again, however, a single completion took about a minute. Pale Heart sectors could take as many as three minutes, especially with the run back. Farming these short and relatively uninteresting activities can also be maddeningly dull.
Best Taken Dungeons, Raids, and Exotic Missions
![]()
The Taken have a surprising amount of representation in the endgame side of Destiny 2. You can find at least three powerful Taken in the bosses of the following activities:
Of these five activities, the Prophecy Dungeon is the best and most accessible of them. You get two Taken bosses, some fantastic weapons and armor, and effectively infinite yellow-bar Taken Ogres in the last fight. The Whisper is the next in quality, as it's a simpler experience with lots of powerful Taken in the final encounter. The main thing holding it back is the oft-frustrating platforming section you need to complete to get there.
You'll have to spend actual money to access the other activities, and while I think all of them are worth the price of admission, if I had to pick one, The Forsaken Pack is probably the one to get. You not only get the Shattered Throne — almost always a prime farming activity — and the Last Wish Raid. Shattered Throne has three powerful Taken right off the bat, and Last Wish remains at the top of many players' Raid tier lists for its quality, difficulty, and gameplay satisfaction.
Taken Strikes, Activities, and world sources
![]()
Taken are plentiful on most worlds in the Destiny 2 universe. The powerful kind is a tad harder to come by. You could always wait for a Public Event on Neomuna or in the EDZ for a quick grouping, but we're looking for consistent farming right now.
Unfortunately, many of the activities and open-world sources of powerful Taken are inconsistent. They're either time-gated, had their enemy type or frequency nerfed, or only produce Taken enemies randomly. A few are workable, though.
Which activities you choose to farm will depend heavily on the time. If it's Taken week in the Dreaming City, that's your best option. The Corrupted is always a good source of powerful Taken, especially if available at higher Nightfall difficulties. Dares of Eternity is free, and there tends to be at least one Taken round for each run, though it's not a guarantee. Lastly, if you have The Final Shape DLC, the Pale Heart is a fantastic source of Taken, and the Overthrow activity is the comfiest way to farm for Exotic Class Items.
Your ultimate choice will depend on how much grind you can stomach. Going from activity to activity is the best way to avoid monotony, as it always ensures some variety in what you're doing. Your access to paid DLC content can also be a barrier. Bungie has made it simpler to buy older content via the Legacy Collection, which wraps up a ton of activities from as far back as Forsaken in one easy-to-purchase bundle. It also often goes on sale, but its default $70 price tag is not always an easy pill to swallow.
Thankfully, there are enough free powerful Taken sources that you don't need to spend any money unless you choose to. No matter your choices, go out and show those Taken who's boss.
