1UP Announced; an Esports Comedy About GamerGate Starring Ellen Page and Paris Berelc
Movies surrounding real-world events are not uncommon. We see films taking inspiration from real-world politics, from celebrity scandals, climate change, and even that upcoming pandemic-inspired movie from Michael Bay, 'Songbird'. However, one inspiration that I never thought I'd see adapted into a movie was GamerGate, but that's a thing that's happening.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, BuzzFeed is branching out into movies with its BuzzFeed Studios. And to kick things off, its first production will be a movie titled '1UP' which follows the story of the character Vivan Lee, who quits her college eSports team due to sexism from the rest of the team. She's forced to create an all-women's team due to her scholarship being on the line, and one coach she brings on board is returning to the spotlight after her own GamerGate scandal.
The cast confirmed so far will feature Ellen Page as Vivian Lee, while Paris Berelc will play the coach. The story is being penned by Julia Yorks but with the script "being in the vein of Pitch Perfect but set in the world of eSports with a GamerGate backdrop." 1UP will be directed by Kyle Newman and is being produced by Richard Alan Reid, Michael Philip, and Jason Moring. Production is slated to begin in November 2020 in Toronto.
Ellen Page is known for being movies and shows such as Juno (2007), Inception (2010), and the series, The Umbrella Academy (2019-2020) as well as starring in the game, Beyond: Two Souls. Paris Berelc has been in Tall Girl (2019), Deadly Scholars (2018), and Hubie Halloween (2020) to name a few. Kyle Newman has directed a range of films and shows with gaming influences such as Fanboys (2009), and The Return of Return of the Jedi: 30 Years and Counting (2013), as well as a comedy, Barely Lethal (2015).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, BuzzFeed Studios' mission is "to develop and produce what it sees are socially relevant and high-concept feature films for global millennial and Gen Z audiences."
The idea of a comedy movie surrounding the topic of GamerGate certainly sounds controversial and concerning, and sure enough, there have been some notable backlash online from those concerned the film won't properly address the extent of GamerGate. We'll have to wait and see when more information about the movie is revealed. As for video game adaptions that are in production, we've got the upcoming The Witcher season 2, and there's the Uncharted movie. Netflix has also teased the upcoming Assassin's Creed live-action series.

Elden Ring Is Still in Development, Don't You Worry
There was a huge wave of excitement over the weekend on social media after FromSoftware tweeted about Elden Ring. The thing is, the tweet wasn't really newsworthy, but the attention it garnered was enough to become newsworthy. I suppose it also counts as confirmation that the upcoming game is still being developed at least.
The studio tweeted about the free update that finally launched for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice while also recalling that it had been a year since the game first released. The follow-up tweet stated, "We are currently developing an action RPG," talking about Elden Ring, and said, "We hope you can look forward to it as well".
我々は現在、アクションRPG『ELDEN RING』を開発中です。こちらにもご期待いただければ幸いです。 pic.twitter.com/Bj7JD1FIJW
— FROMSOFTWARE (@fromsoftware_pr) October 31, 2020
See what I mean by there being nothing newsworthy in there? Well, it still got the online world in a stir of excitement because the game hasn't been abandoned for whatever reason. Although excitement comes from the studio being notoriously quiet over its progress.
For those unaware, the game is being developed by FromSoftware with Hidetaka Miyazaki directing it. It is said to have been in development since Dark Souls 3 DLC was launched, so roughly around 2017. It'll have a focus on RPG and a story with George R.R. Martin behind it. Elden Ring will also feature third-person combat similar to the Dark Souls games as well as similar storytelling.
We actually compiled a list of what we know about the game which you can read here, Elden Ring has no release date or confirmed platforms as of yet.

This PS5 ASMR Video Showcases the Magic Behind the DualSense Controller
The PS5 news and hype train is currently at fever pitch. The next console from Sony is less than two weeks away from release. Before it arrives to the homes of folks lucky enough to snag a pre-order; media, youtubers, and influencers have been sent consoles for early looks and previews. Interestingly enough the new DualSense controller seems to be the real magic behind the PS5. Many early previews have tried their best to describe it, but the best explanation thus far comes from YouTube technology blogger Dave Lee who leans into some ASMR that gives the best real sense of what to expect.
The DualSense controller relies on clever haptics to achieve new sensations while playing. Think of it as Sony's take on the "HD Rumble" feature found on the Nintendo Switch. In game's like Mario Party or 1-2 Switch, the Nintendo Switch JoyCon controller gives the feeling of movement inside of the hardware. According to Lee and his time with the DualSense, the new controller provides similar feedback that will allow players to feel the environment as they interact with it.
Rather than using just words to best describe it, Lee showcases this by recording the sounds coming from the DualSense controller haptic motors. In the clip below, featuring Astro's Playroom (a game that comes packed in with the PS5 at launch), you can hear the various sounds from the controller haptics that align with what is happening on screen. Additionally, Lee highlights that as you're playing you can feel the difference as Astro explores different surfaces in the environment like metal, sand, and wood. What's interesting is that we've been hearing so much about the controller's adaptive triggers, but it seems that the new triggers just barely scratch the surface of the magic happening inside the new DualSense controller.
Either way, with the PS5 launch just around the corner, many won't have to wait much longer to feel (and hear) this ASMR goodness on the DualSense controller for themselves.

Halloween Horror Bracket — Who is the Best Horror Video Game Character?
Halloween is finally here, and obviously, this year is probably going to look a bit different. Sure, there won't be as much trick or treating or costume parties (hopefully), but even in the cursed year of 2020, you can still celebrate All Hallows' Eve with a great horror game. Of course, there are plenty of them to go around, which might leave you asking: who is the best character from a horror video game? Leave that to us to answer.
To celebrate Halloween, the DualShockers staff assembled to discuss who really is the top character from a horror video game the old fashioned way: through a good old bracket. We picked 32 of the most iconic and memorable characters from horror games–Mr. X, Lisa, Jason Voorhees, Waluigi, and more–to face off against one another for the title.
You can check out the full video below, which features Logan Moore (Managing Editor), Mario Rivera (Video Manager), Ryan Meitzler (Features Editor), Michael Ruiz (Contributor), Ricky Frech (Senior Staff Writer), and Peter Hunt Szpytek (Video Editor):
Naturally we used science–which in this case involved mostly yelling and one instance of Rule 34–to make our picks between some challenging horror mash-ups. Ultimately we did wind up with a winner, but you'll have to watch to find out who really is the King or Queen of Horror video games.
Of course, if you want to show us your picks for the best horror character in a video game, you can use the blank version of our bracket below:
For Halloween today, we also have plenty of other spooky tricks and treats you can check out. You can sound off in our Insta-Forum on horror games to see the community's picks for the scariest horror games, or you can also check out our terrifying (and hilarious) Let's Plays of Among Us and Dead by Daylight.

Stock For CD Projekt Red Fell 25% After Cyberpunk Delays
Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the news quite a bit recently and most of the news hasn't been very positive. Reports of crunch have started to leak after the game has been delayed not once, but twice in the last few months. With all of the negative news, it has taken a toll on the stock for CD Projekt Red.
Per GamesIndustry.biz, CD Projekt Red's share price has decreased by 25%. This comes at its peak just at the end of August.
The peak came right when the publisher/developer announced the new Witcher mobile game that Pokemon Go fans will find very familiar. During that peak in August, the market cap for the company was PLN 42.4 billion, which equates to around €9.6 billion. This is based on a price of PLN 461 per share.
On Thursday, that price had fallen to PLN 331. This is the lowest its been since April.
With all of that said, that stock will for sure rise once the game is finally released. The hype around this title has been so large that it is almost a guaranteed success. Unless there is another delay, I don't think we will see stock for CD Projekt Red take a dive for quite a while.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on December 10 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game can also be played on the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X|S thanks to backwords compatibility. A next-gen upgrade that has been developed specifically for the new consoles is on the way as well and will be free to all of those who had purchased the game before.

PSVR Will Not be Able to Play the PS5 Versions of Games
There has been some speculation on how PSVR would be handled on the almost released PS5. Whether it was talking about a brand new headset of the PS5 or just how backwords compatability would be handled, the topic has been a little confusing when transitioning to the PS5. Upload VR has cleared the air a bit and confirmed with Sony that PSVR compatible games will only work with the PS4 version and not the PS5 version.
For example, if someone was to purchase the PS5 version of Hitman 3 or No Man's Sky, they will not have access to either game's PSVR modes. If they would like to play those titles in VR then they would need to purchase the PS4 version of the game. That version can still be played on the PS5 as long as you snag a PS4 camera adapter. Sony is handing those out for free to current PSVR owners so make sure to pick one up.
This calls into question the future of Virtual Reality on PlayStation consoles. A representative even clarified to Upload VR and stated "We have not announced PS5 titles for PS VR." I have to imagine that rather than Sony ditching the tech, it is creating a new headset. That link above pointing to the development of a new headset makes me think that the older tech just won't be able to handle the new generation of VR games. And to be fair, the PSVR released way back in 2016. Virtual Reality has changed a whole lot since then. I mean, we still have to use the move wands that released during the PS3 era!

PS5 New Console Images are Highly Seductive
Prior to the launch of the PlayStation 5 in a little under two weeks, Sony recently let loose a whole slew of new looks at the next-gen beast, and my god, they're glorious.
In what is surely the nicest lineup of images of the PS5 that we've seen so far, Sony has given us an overly-detailed look at everything that will be released in proximity to the new hardware in the near future. The latest gallery of pics features not only some new close-ups of the PS5 itself but also the DualSense controller, the DualSense charging station, the new 3D Wireless headset, and the console's new camera and media remote accessories.

As someone who hasn't been the biggest fan of the look of the PS5 up until this point, something about this new set of images is finally selling me on this thing from an aesthetic point of view. Yes, the console still looks like a fat router at the end of the day, but I'm honestly excited to set this thing up in my home. Hopefully, it'll actually fit under my entertainment center.
If you want to see nearly all of the new pictures released by Sony, you can check out the full gallery down below. The PS5 itself is set to launch in the United States and other specific regions on November 12. The rest of the world will then see it arrive the following week on November 19.

DualShockers Discussion — What Horror Video Games Scared Us the Most?
Halloween is right around the corner, and naturally, this is the best time to cozy up to a terrifying horror game experience to celebrate the holiday with. From Resident Evil to Silent Hill, to more recent indie hits like Among Us and Phasmophobia, there are more than enough horror video games out there worth playing (including some niche picks), with the DualShockers staff sharing a few of their favorites.
The DualShockers staff gathered around the fire–aka Discord–with Halloween coming up to discuss the best times that we've ever been scared in a video game. The dogs from Resident Evil? Terrifying. Being pursued by Lisa in P.T.? Horrific? Drowning in Tomb Raider? Somehow still just as terrifying as the rest.
For our latest DualShockers Discussion video, we have our own Logan Moore (Managing Editor), Ryan Meitzler (Features Editor), Mario Rivera (Video Manager), Ricky Frech (Senior Staff Writer), and Michael Ruiz (Contributor) talking about all things horror games to find out which games did, in fact, scare us the most.
You can check out the full video below:

FIFA 21 Rulebreakers Team 2 Is Stacked With Fun Players
If FIFA 21 has done one thing right, it's injecting some fun back into Ultimate Team. The new FUT Friendlies have been a godsend for casual players because they allow you to complete objectives without worrying about your Rivals ranking. Plus, they force you into making new teams that aren't always a slave to the meta. And with the ongoing Rulebreakers promo, EA has kept adding fun to the game by providing players with some intriguing new cards. Check out Rulebreakers Team 2 below.
https://twitter.com/EASPORTSFIFA/status/1322237042630234115
The second squad lacks a top-end player like Harry Kane from the first team; however, it fills some important holes. That's doubly true if you're running a Serie A side. The two biggest names in the squad are, without question, Paul Pogba and Marco Reus. Pogba's card has morphed into a devastating defender with a 16-point increase. Reus, on the other hand, got a massive physical boost that gives him 80+ in every face stat besides defending. Both of those players will likely cost a pretty penny if you're hoping to pick them up.
PSG's Angel Di Maria is the highest-rated player at 88 overall. The Argentian winger got himself a tasty pace boost. Then, there's the card I'm most excited by. Romelu Lukaku is going into my squad pretty much immediately. Sure, he lost a bit of his trademark strength, but I'll more than take it for his ridiculous dribbling boost. It was fun playing with Victor Osimhen's One To Watch card, but it's time for the big man to take over.
Sticking with the Serie A, Juan Cuadrado fills the absolutely massive hole that the league had at right-back. Getting that huge jump in defending makes him a must-get if you run a squad from that league. Hakan Calhanoglu is also from the Italian league and got a borderline dumb 24-point boost in pace. I don't know if he's grown an extra set of legs or what.
Alex Teixeira might be one of the players you'll be seeing the most over the coming weeks. The striker joins Paulinho and Anderson Talisca in a trio of Brazilian players from the Chinese League with recent upgrades. If he comes in at a reasonable price, I would expect quite a few hybrids to rock him.
Rounding out the squad is Jose Gimenez, Patrick Van Aanholt, Daniel Podence, and Ike Opara. As an American, Opara is another insta-buy for me. And I imagine quite a few La Liga sides will be looking to pick up Gimenez.
https://twitter.com/EASPORTSFIFA/status/1322239400768667650
Of course, the fun doesn't stop there. In Objectives, you can pick up an Adebayo Akinfenwa with a jaw-dropping 39-point increase to pace. Importantly, EA has also corrected its mistake and given him 99 strength. They've also dropped in a boosted Florent Mollet, though the grind to get him is a bit ridiculous. That said, you have about three weeks to finish him, so there's quite a bit of time.
Finally, in SBCs we have another player pick with Karim Bellarabi. After doing the SBC, you can choose between giving the German winger either a shooting or dribbling upgrade. Hopefully, we get a few more of these before the event ends next week.
FIFA 21 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The gameplay can get a little ropey, but it has to be said that EA is knocking it out of the park so far this year in terms of quantity of content. If you can't find something to do, I'd be surprised.

Demon's Souls Score Will Improve Upon the Original
The Souls series is known for a few things. Exceptional difficulty, fashionable armor and of course, a killer score to go along with killer bosses are all staples of Souls games. For the remake of Demon's Souls, the first, and often forgotten, entry into the franchise, score producer Peter Scatturo already had a soundtrack to work off of. His challenge then was to stay true to that original score while reimagining it in a modern way.
Highlighted in a new video from PlayStation, it seems that Scatturo has been given everything necessary to fulfill that vision. Bill Hemstapat, a music arranger working on the score for Demon's Souls, began the process of modernizing the game's soundtrack with its melodies. "Most of the time what stays is the melody, the themes."
However, the music of the Souls series has always been tied to the character it plays for, and not just in their appearance, but also their backstory. That's why the lore of Demon's Souls has also been taken into consideration during this process, so the music continues to represent the grand scale of the game's gothic enemies while also portraying their often somber backstories.
That being said, the game's score will also have some new influences. Orchestrator Jim Fowler cites Bloodborne as a major influence on the project, at least in terms of the "scale of the sound." Everything in Demon's Souls sounds big; there are massive choruses and sweeping sections of brass and string instruments.
All those parts will give way to the centerpiece of the game's soundtrack, the massive pipe organ located in London's Temple Church, which just sounds perfect for Demon's Souls. The idea of something as old and religious as a massive church organ being brought into the score of a Souls game just makes way too much sense.
Demon's Souls is due to release on the same day as the PS5, November 12.
