Path of Exile reveals 19 new subclasses for its wild, month-long event

Path of Exile has just fully unveiled its Legacy of Phrecia event, and given that it's a rather last-minute make-good with the community after saying that support for PoE would pause to focus on Path of Exile 2, I'm shocked at how stacked it is. Legacy of Phrecia puts Path of Exile's 19 Ascendancy classes in the bin, and casually whips up 19 fresh ones to replace them. Oh, and it's out next week.

     Anime Adventures codes February 2025

February 13, 2025 We've added a couple new Anime Adventures codes for update 19.5.

What are the new Anime Adventures codes? To stop the evil forces from storming your base you'll want to summon the most powerful characters from some of the most popular anime ever, such as One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Dragon Ball. But, of course, some are more powerful than others, so if you want to get the most out of the game's gacha system, you'll want tons of codes.

Anime Adventures is a tower defense anime game built inside Roblox, and you can earn gems to summon units by grinding through levels and completing daily missions. AA codes can help you get even more gems, which you can spend on getting the best units in the game. While you're here, you should know that we also keep lists of Blox Fruits codes, King Legacy codes, and All Star Tower Defense codes to get you more freebies.

Badlands Crew is a Mad Max style vehicular RTS game that just got a Steam demo

Usually, base-building RTS games are pretty serious in tone. Maybe there's an intense military conflict, or an armada of spaceships are fighting to control a solar system. The beauty of Runner Duck's chaotic Bomber Crew was that it didn't take itself seriously at all while still offering some fun and dynamic strategic action. That continued on with 2020's Space Crew, and now it's time to try out the third game in the Crew series.      How to switch to third-person mode in Avowed

Want to use third-person mode in Avowed? When Obsidian showed off Avowed for the first time, there was some concern from RPG fans about the game's forced first-person perspective. Being able to play in third-person is especially helpful when exploring, making it possible to see parts of the environment that simply aren't possible to look at in first-person.

While it's not uncommon for RPGs like Avowed to feature a first-person viewpoint, the ability to switch to third-person never goes amiss. Fear not, the devs have responded to this by including an optional third-person mode, though it's not entirely clear how to switch to this perspective right away. Avowed may default to first-person, but there's nothing stopping you from playing the entire open-world game from this viewpoint.

It's easy to lose moments watching the ambience of the gameboard change in the demo for haunted house RPG The Horror At Highrook. The colours alter from daytime greyness through winey shades of sunset into pale lavender moonlight. There are little details to notice and zoom on: a fleeting embroidery of rain, the seep of flames in the kitchen and guest rooms, a fidgeting of moths in the archives. Ah, nice. The last time I felt so beguiled by a view of a house was while looking out from the hamlet of Darkest Dungeon.

Avowed has more The Outer Worlds DNA in it than just the Obsidian link, and from a technical perspective, that might be worrisome – the latter RPG's Spacer's Choice Edition was one of the most wretchedly broken releases of 2023.

Happily, Avowed does at least launch in much better shape, and with some genuinely fetching fantasy visuals that may even justify flicking on ray tracing. The PC version does, however, still seem to have a few loose wires, which are worth watching out for even if you can tidy some up with the right settings.

VR Girlfriend Game VR-Kanojo Delayed

Illumination announced a delay of VR girlfriend game VR-Kanojo from its original February 2025 release window. The developers are hoping to release the game sometime around late April 2025.

The reason behind the latest delay of VR-Kanojo lies on the game still being under review on Steam. As per the announcement released by Illumination, the platform still hasn't given the green light for the developers to make the game available to the public, in spite of VR-Kanojo having already received various revisions to its content.

To ensure that the game can be sold on Steam and that users can play it, Illumination made the decision to implement significant modifications to VR-Kanojo that will require extra time. However, the developers haven't gone into detail on what these modifications are. The developers also apologized for this delay, which marks the second time the release of the game has been postponed.

The game was originally set to release on Winter 2024, which was later changed to February 2025 in October 2024. The team at Illumination is confident that the final version of the game will match players' expectations. Additionally, the release date might be subject to change again depending on the current status of the Steam review process. More information will appear at a later date.

VR-Kanojo has been delayed and is expected to appear on PC via Steam sometime in late April 2025.

Some of the Vtubers discussed the change following the announcement. Mogu did in a February 13, 2025 Twitch stream during which she also played Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side: 1st Love. Emuri also went over how the deal works both in a stream and in a separate list on social media that went over details like ownership of her IP. Genshin Impact Pop-Up Store Heads to London merchandise

HoYoVerse shared details about the Genshin Impact Teyvat Goods pop-up store opening in London with new merchandise. It will appear at 133 Bethnal Green Road in East London on February 20, 2025. There will also be an iridescent card raffle for sharing images on social media and bonus gifts your purchases hit certain tiers.

When it comes to items we'll see there, HoYoVerse specifically mentioned Natlan merchandise will be sold. It also shared images of acrylic standees and what look like desk mats. A lucky bag display was mentioned. If you spend at least £9.90, you get a postcard. You'll also get another item if the total amount is over £59, and a third type if it is over £89. The exact gift wasn't listed. However, the image made it look like a pin will be among the £59 minimum gift options and acrylic standees were at the £89 tier.

Two images were shared showing a map to the store's location and some of the bonus rewards.

Here's an image showing all of the Genshin Impact merchandise that will be available.

While the Genshin Impact pop-up store appearances are limited, HoYoVerse did announce a way to more easily get merchandise based on the series. There is an Amazon storefront. That regularly gets new items, with one of the latest updates adding Natlan items.

The Goddess of Victory: NIKKE Evangelion event returns next week and brings with it new playable versions of Asuka and Rei.

Back in December 2024, Shift Up announced a second Evangelion event would appear in Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, and now we know it will return on February 20, 2025. As usual, this crossover is based on the Rebuild of Evangelion series of movies

There's a new trailer to go along with this second NIKKE Evangelion crossover event, of course. This time, it starts with characters like Rapi, Anis, and Neon on a ship as a number of Angels appear. We then see the Evas return admist the sea turning red. A silhouette of the Asuka: WILLE version of Asuka Shikinami Langley shows up, as she'll be one of the new SSR units. As other NIKKEs head into the fray, the Rei Ayanami (Tentative Name) SSR shows up alongside the SR Sakura Suzuhara.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-jFRj3njAI&ab_channel=GODDESSOFVICTORY%3ANIKKE

There are more details about when exactly certain characters will appear too. The Asuka: WILLE banner runs February 20, 2025 through March 13, 2025. Since she's limited, that is the only way to get her. We need to wait a bit for Rei Ayanami (Tentative Name) to show up, as her banner starts on February 27, 2025. Once it does appear, it will also only be available until March 13, 2025. As for Sakura, she'll be a unit we can earn by playing through the crossover event.

Here are the teaser images for all three of them:

This is the second run of the NIKKE Evangelion crossover event. The first one in 2024 featured banners for SSR Asuka, Mari Illustrious Makinami, and Rei Ayanami, with people able to earn an SR Misato Katsuragi. Like these new banners, the characters were only available via the limited Pick Up Recruitment gacha. So you can only get them in-game when an event like this is live.

Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is available on PCs and mobile devices. The Rebuild of Evangelion movies are on Amazon.

Final Fantasy IX Moogle Bright Arts Gallery die-cast metal figure

Square Enix revealed a new die-cast metal figure modeled after the Moogle from Final Fantasy IX. The figure will be part of the Bright Arts Gallery line, and the company will release it on June 7, 2025, at 3,960 yen (~$25.85).

This figure will have a total height of around 78 mm (~3.07 in), which is measured from the bottom of the base to the top of the Moogle's pom-pom. It will also have an overall width of 46 mm (~1.81 in) and a depth of 28 mm (~1.10 in). Square Enix added that the zinc alloy it uses to produce the die-case metal figure will give it a profound weight and size for the owner to place it as a decoration item on a desk.

Here are the sample images for the upcoming metal figure, as taken from multiple angles:

The figure will be based on the ninth mainline Final Fantasy RPG that originally came out for the PlayStation in 2000. Square Enix has since released ports of the same PS1 game on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One, as well as Android and iOS mobile devices. Those who have the game's PC port can also apply the graphic-upscaling Moguri Mod that was most recently updated to Version 9 in August 2024.

The Bright Arts Gallery metal figure of the Final Fantasy IX Moogle will be available on June 7, 2025.

Sims hosting a birthday party

Fans of the original Sims and The Sims 2 have been treated by EA to a rerelease of the classic games this month, with the Legacy Collection coming out for all PC users. You're able to jump into these classic titles and enjoy the first two entries in this legendary series, however, since release players have been experiencing crashes and glitches galore.

If you've been experiencing any of these issues, EA has come to the rescue with the latest update and patch notes released for the games on February 12, 2025. These include memory fixes to The Sims that led to random crashes and laggy gameplay, and fixing the "D3D" error that would crash The Sims 2.

EA releases the 3rd patch for The Sims and The Sims 2 Legacy Editions

Among the fixes to the bugs causing crashes repeatedly, improved error reporting has been added to both games as well. The Sims got quite a few more fixes than The Sims 2, not only fixing the memory issues but also missing textures such as pool tiles appearing gray and the Work and School icons not appearing on Sim's portraits.

The Sims also will now adopt the aspect ratio of whatever monitor it's currently being run on. The game previously would not properly scale to different aspect ratios, causing odd visuals and not being able to zoom in properly.

The Sims also now shouldn't have an issue launching on Snapdragon-based computers, which previously could cause the game to be unplayable.

There are still other bugs that the team is aware of that they are working to address, notably a significantly larger number of errors on Inter ARC GPUs and NVIDIA T600 GPUs on The Sims. While this patch doesn't fix this, it does reassure fans that they are looking into these issues and can expect a fix soon.

Since release, a fair amount of crashes and bugs have been plaguing players of the Legacy Editions. While this patch doesn't address every single problem, it's nice to see that the team at EA is at least trying to keep the games playable instead of simply releasing them and vanishing, which some fans expected them to do.

Wielding the Wind and Wave and Drawn in Winter weapons

The Fighter class is one of the most traditional specializations in any RPG, focusing on combat-heavy tactics. With this guide, we'll show the best early weapons you can get as a Fighter in Avowed, shining a light on the game's high-damaging tools.

What are the best early weapons for the Fighter class in Avowed?

With the Fighter class, you'll have advantages using weapons like axes, maces, and two-handed tools, creating unique weapon combinations for your builds. This specialization also thrives with shields, mixing in some defense with its offense. Let's break down all the best starter weapons (in Dawnshore) to improve your Fighter class in Avowed.

Seven Strivings Great Axe

  • Location: Dawnshore's The Falls (Found in a cave in the Kill Ralga quest)
  • Stats:

    • 160 Physical Damage
    • 154 Stun
    • 22 Stamina Cost
    • 6% Critical Hit Chance
    • Determined Step: 15% Move Speed for 10 seconds upon enemy elimination
    • Vicious Strikes: +5% Critical Hit Chance

Seven Strivings Great Axe offers the highest Physical Damage out of any early Fighter weapons, which has the potential to unleash one-hit kills. This axe also performs exceptionally well with stuns to throw your enemies off. As a Unique weapon, it'll provide more movement speed and critical hits, differing from the Common-type version of this tool.

Wind and Wave Shield

Wind and Wave Shield in Avowed

  • Location: Captain Henqua's Spoils Treasure Map location
  • Stats:

    • 63 Block Efficiency
    • 20 Stability
    • 220 Parry Efficiency
    • 30 Elemental Resistance
    • Lesser Quickness: +10% Move Speed
    • Lesser Freeze-Proofed: +20% Resistance to Frost Accumulation

Given the Fighter class's proficiency in blocks, it's crucial to have a shield that complements this skill. The Wind and Wave stands out as one of the best early shields, excelling in parrying and movement speed. The best part? It's completely free once you unravel the mysteries of its treasure map.

The Philosopher's Riddle Two-Handed Sword

The Philospher's Riddle Sword

  • Location: Northwest rock terrain of Castol's Folly
  • Stats:

    • 135 Physical Damage
    • 140 Stun
    • 20 Stamina Cost
    • 3% Critical Hit Chance
    • Aggressive Debate: 15% Attack Speed for 10 seconds after unleashing a Full Combo Attack
    • Poison Lash: Hits deal +10% bonus Poison Damage

Whether you're on the Precious Light side quest or the hunt for the Totem of Rightful Rulership, you can discover the Philospher's Riddle on the ground of Castol's Folly. You'll feel powerful holding this bad boy, especially when you trigger its Aggressive Debate skill with a sweet combo. Plus, the Philosopher's Riddle inflicts Poison Damage to deal considerable damage to foes over time.

Fine Great Hammer

  • Location: Gweneth's Store at Paradis
  • Stats:

    • 111 Physical Damage
    • 108 Stun
    • 25 Stamina Cost
    • 3% Critical Hit Chance

If you ever dreamed of holding Thor's Mjolnir, you can try out this Fine Great Hammer. Unfortunately, it will come for 3,600 gold, but you may be able to get it for free by exploring around Dawnshore. The one at Gweneth's Store offers a pretty high damage and stun rate, making it almost too easy to eliminate foes.

Fine Mace

  • Location: Gweneth's Store at Paradis
  • Stats:

    • 68 Physical Damage
    • 72 Stun
    • 18 Stamina Cost
    • 3% Critical Hit Chance

Most weapons on this list come with a slight disadvantage of high Stamina cost, so you may opt for smaller weapons like the Mace. You can purchase the Fine Mace for 3,000 gold at the Paradis shop during the beginning stages. Although it doesn't have as much damage as the Great Swords and Great Hammers, you'll at least have more movement benefits.

Drawn in Winter One-Handed Axe

Drawn in Winter axe
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Location: Watcher's Mirror Pond (Call of the Past side quest)
  • Stats:

    • 90 Physical Damage
    • 98 Stun
    • 15 Stamina Cost
    • 6% Critical Hit Chance
    • Rising Chill: Power Attacks deal moderate Frost Accumulation to nearby enemies
    • Freezing Lash: Hits deal +10% bonus Frost Damage

The Drawn in Winter makes you feel like a fearsome frosty warrior as you deal Frost Damage with each swing. It'll work well with foes who are vulnerable to this element and deal decent damage to those who are not. The only downside is that you must go up against a bunch of skeletons once you claim the axe at the center of the Watcher's Mirror Pond.

EA FC 25 Stoichkov Grassroot Greats Icon SBC solutions

If the latest rumors are to be believed, the Hristo Stoichkov Grassroot Greats Icon SBC is set to appear in EA FC 25 Ultimate Team.

The latest rumor has been shared on X by @FutSheriff, and he could well become the first icon to appear as a SBC. So far, EA Sports has neither confirmed nor denied the rumor, but here are my predictions about the upcoming challenge.

EA FC 25 Hristo Stoichkov Grassroot Greats Icon SBC release date (predicted)

The Grassroot Greats promo goes live on February 14. The Hristo Stoichkov Grassroot Greats Icon SBC could be the promo opener, and it could appear as early as Friday. Typically, EA Sports has released Icon SBCs to begin a new promo, and the same trend might continue once again. If that's the case, the Stoichkov SBC could go live on February 14.

Another possible date of release for the Stoichkov SBC could be Sunday, February 16. Over the last few weeks, EA Sports has released special Icon challenges in Ultimate Team on Sundays. Hence, we could end up with the Stoichkov SBC within the next 72 hours as of writing this piece.

EA FC 25 Hristo Stoichkov Grassroot Greats Icon SBC costs (expected)

So far, we have no information about what the official card might look like. His Base Icon card is valued at around 130,000 coins, but the new card will be far more expensive. If I have to guess, the SBC could cost around 500,000 coins worth of fodder.

The final cost will largely depend on how many tasks are there in the SBC. I don't expect it to be as expensive as the Ferland Mendy Grassroot Greats SBC. However, it shouldn't be cheap (given he is an icon and expected to have two playstyle+), so keep some of your high-rated fodder in store.

How to get rid of the Tortured debuff in KCD2

During the main story quest Storm in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, events take place that result in your character having a pretty nasty debuff called Tortured. Here's how to remove the Tortured debuff and finally no longer be over encumbered.

How to remove the Tortured debuff in Kingdom Come: Devlierance 2
Screenshot by Destructoid

How to remove the Tortured debuff

The only way to remove the Tortured debuff is to continue through the Storm main story quest and completely escape Trosky Castle. Unfortunately, you need to rest in order to treat the Tortured debuff, but you cannot rest until you've completely escaped. Bandages and other aid items will not fix it, either.

Until you're able to rest and deal with the Tortured debuff, you'll have to deal with the negative effects of the debuff by fixing your encumbrance and potentially using consumables that buff your stats. It can be quite a pain navigating through the various Castle Trosky patrols both inside the castle and south of the castle at Apollonia while you have those Tortured debuff.

What does the Tortured debuff do?

The Tortured debuff essentially lowers all of Henry's stats in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The problem is, this often creates somewhat of a spiraling effect. Your Strength is lowered which lowers your carrying capacity, so then you're over encumbered, and it sort of snowballs out of control.

You get the Tortured debuff when being tortured during the Storm quest, but you can also mitigate and prevent it based on your answers. If you willingly give up your friends, you will not be Tortured and therefore will not receive the debuff. However, if you try to lie and fail the skill check, it will result in you being Tortured.

From a narrative standpoint, I certainly understand wanting to lie. But if your skills aren't high enough to succeed in the checks, you may just want to tell the truth, otherwise it will make the future parts of the quest when escaping Trosky Castle much more difficult.

An image of Starseed: Asnia Trigger tier list

Starseed: Asnia Trigger is the latest addition to the world of gacha titles, and the opening months have seen the introduction of some really interesting characters.

As with any gacha, you'll want to focus on getting a strong start, and that means selecting units that are relatively overpowered in the early days. Doing so will help you clear out all the content quicker and earn more rewards in the process. During the opening week, I felt that the overall balance of the characters was decent, but some of them clearly stood out.

Starseed: Asnia Trigger tier list

To rank the characters, I have used four different tiers. While the SSR units are clearly better, you shouldn't sleep on some of the more commonly available girls as well.

  • S-tier: Absolutely broken units in the current meta.
  • A-tier: Great units that are bound to remain viable for a long time.
  • B-tier: Ok units, but you should look to replace them as you get better characters.
  • C-tier: Underpowered units that should be replaced as soon as possible.

Starseed: Asnia Trigger S-tier characters

  • Eradica
  • Elina
  • Freyja
  • Hallona
  • Itus
  • Kaito Aile
  • Leila
  • Rayhou
  • Rachel
  • Sia
  • Yuna

Starseed: Asnia Trigger A-tier characters

  • Ambrosia
  • Angelica
  • Erica
  • Eulgiya
  • Fei
  • iD
  • Kaito.aile
  • Lilian
  • Leila
  • Mea
  • Patricia
  • Snowfrill
  • Shale

Starseed: Asnia Trigger B-tier characters

  • Airen
  • Belita
  • Fei
  • Hellen
  • Isabella
  • Serapulsar
  • Taina
  • Valencia

Starseed: Asnia Trigger C-tier characters

  • Arcels
  • Archphase
  • Belebeta
  • Crimson
  • Daria
  • Eiko
  • Ino
  • Iras
  • Melissa
  • Perrel
  • Renas

Please note that this tier list will undergo changes based on future patches and events coming to the game. Additionally, new characters are likely to be more powerful than most of the existing girls, so that's another point to remember.

Compared to traditional gachas, getting characters in Starseed: Asnia Trigger is pretty easy, but you'll have to focus on getting dupes in order to power them up.

Opening Pyromancer's Chest in Avowed

Every region in the Living Lands harnesses keys for you to uncover, allowing you to open hidden caches or locked doorways. If you're exploring Dawnshore, you can locate the Pyromancer's Key, which is used to unlock a secret chest. Here's where to find and use Pyromancer's Key in Avowed.

Where to find Pyromancer's Key in Avowed

You can find Pyromancer's Key near Berath's Gateway (graveyard), to the left of Paradis. It'll be right near Captain Henqua's Spoils Treasure Map solution.

To begin your journey, head to the right of Berath's Gateway to find a set of stairs. Cross these wooden platforms and continue along the path.

As you approach a bridge, you'll hear the sound of the Crazed Pyromancer. Follow the sound (to the right of the bridge), leading you closer to Ivona's Threshold.

Upon reaching the Crazed Pyromancer's skeleton, you'll discover the Pyromancer's Key resting beside him. Take the key in his honor and use it to claim some goodies. You can also grab the Anexli's Grimoire near him, which provides you with a weapon of Exceptional Quality.

How to use Pyromancer's Key in Avowed

To use the Pyromancer's Key, head toward the Pargrun Wall, next to Berath's Gateway.

You'll see a chest near some tents and an unlit campfire:

Open it to receive the following items:

  • 9 Silver Fennings
  • Common Grimoire of Embers
  • Spirit Residue
  • 2 Softwood Branched
  • Pelt
  • 4 Grenades

Most of the treasures inside are for enchanting and upgrading, taking your equipment to new heights. You'll also earn a new grimoire to expand your magic collection. However, Anextli's Grimoire has much more power than the book found in the chest, so you may want to use this one instead. Dawnshore holds many other gems for you to discover, including Woedica's Inheritance. Do your best to explore the Living Lands as much as possible to gather more valuable resources.

EA FC 25 Ferland Mendy Grassroot Greats SBC solutions

The Ferland Mendy Grassroot Greats SBC could be an amazing piece of content coming to EA FC 25 Ultimate Team if the recent rumors are to be believed.

The recent rumor has been shared on X by @fifa_romania, and he could be one of the best SBCs of the upcoming promo. So far, EA Sports has remained tight-lipped about the upcoming challenge, but here are my predictions about the SBC.

EA FC 25 Ferland Mendy Grassroot Greats SBC release date (predicted)

The Ferland Mendy Grassroot Greats SBC could be the big promo opener we have been waiting for. The Grassroot Greats promo goes live on Friday, February 14, and we could be getting the Mendy SBC on the same night.

I doubt that the SBC will be released during the weekend, as other leaks like Kante Grassroot Greats SBC have higher chances of appearing on Saturday or Sunday. That said, EA Sports can always tweak the regular schedule, and a potential release next week can't yet be ruled out.

EA FC 25 Ferland Mendy Grassroot Greats SBC costs (expected)

Ferland Mendy might be a defender but don't expect the SBC to be cheap. Mendy has historically been one of the most meta cards to use in Ultimate Team, and I don't see that changing in Ultimate Team with the upcoming SBC card.

The official stats and playstyles have yet to be revealed at the time of writing, but he will be a big SBC. If you have plans to complete it, I would prepare to keep at least 700,000 coins worth of fodder. A Mendy item with two playstyle+, irrespective of in-game stats, will be pricey.

Once the SBC is live, we will have a dedicated guide available for you to complete the challenge and unlock the card. Check out this list of promo cards that are rumored to appear as part of the Grassroot Greats promo.

Shock Generator in Avowed

Across the various maps in Avowed, you'll come across gold, rectangular Essence Generators. These generators can be on walls or separate from anything, but they're always connected to some sort of power source.

In order to get the generator working and restart its power, you need to shock them open with electricity. But if you're not playing as a wizard in Avowed, how can you do that?

Ways to shock generators open in Avowed

Opening an Essence Generator with a lightning spell. Screenshot by Destructoid

There are a couple of different ways to provide a shock to the Essence Generators and get them working again. However, one of the methods isn't going to be available to you until you reach the second map in Avowed, which unlocks after the events unfold in Paradis. So, to start, I'll go over the first and often best way of shocking Essence Generators.

Use the Grimoire Book of Elements

While you might think only players who want to play as wizards can wield a Grimoire Book of Elements, that's not the case in Avowed. Regardless of what abilities you unlock or weapons you use, you can use a Grimoire Book of Elements as a secondary weapon, giving you access to all of its spells. The only caveat is you'll need to at least grab the level 5 Wizard ability, "Grimoire Mastery." This allows you to use basic spells in the books.

The Grimoire Mastery ability allows you to use basic spells. Screenshot by Destructoid

With that ability, you can use a common Grimoire book and it will usually have some kind of lightning spell that you can use on the Essence Generator. All you have to do is bring up the Grimoire book's spell hotbar, aim at the generator, and unleash the lightning spell. If you're using a basic book of elements, the lightning will likely be a direct bolt that can travel fairly far, so it can be used to shock generators from a solid distance.

However, rarer Grimoire books use more advanced lightning spells that might not be able to shock generators from as far away. So, you want to always keep a common Grimoire Book of the Elements in your inventory to quickly equip when you have to shock open a generator that's not close to you.

You can loot common Grimoire books quite frequently in Avowed or simply purchase them from various vendors around Paradis or any of the other maps. It's also important to remember you don't have to use a wand when using the book as a secondary weapon; you can use any other one-handed weapon and still unleash the spells from the book.

Giatta's Companion Ability

The second way you can shock Essence Generators is through a companion named Giatta. Giatta isn't a companion option until you reach Fior mes Iverno in the Emerald Stair map of Avowed. Once you get there and go through some story events, though, you can recruit Giatta to be a companion that travels with you. The maximum number of companions you can have is two, however, so if you're traveling with Kai and Marius at this point, you have to send one of them to camp to make room for Giatta.

With Giatta in your party, you can take advantage of her companion ability called " Spectral Jolt." This allows her to shock open any generator that you come across. All you have to do is bring up your Ability Radial (E by default on PC) and choose Giatta's ability while aiming at a generator. From there, she'll take care of the rest and power on the generator for you.

Giatta's Spectral Jolt ability. Screenshot by Destructoid

This method only works once you reach Emerald Stair and as long as Giatta is in your party in Avowed. So, to ensure you never get stuck, it's still safe to always have a Grimoire book as a backup.

What do Essence Generators do in Avowed?

Now that we've covered how to shock open Essence Generators, what do you actually accomplish by powering them on?

For the most part, Essence Generators are used to open locked doors. You'll often a see glowing orange symbol above a door or generator. The orange color means the door or generator is not being powered. However, when you shock the generator, the symbol turns blue to indicate it's powered on.

Some doors only open by powering on Essence Generators. Screenshot by Destructoid

Sometimes, you'll see two symbols above a door, which means you have to find and power two generators. The generators aren't always close to the door they open, though, so you have to look in some strange spots to find them. You'll also have to get creative with how you power them on, as your lightning spell might not have the distance to reach the generator.

The key thing to keep in mind with Essence Generators is they always need to be shocked and they usually open a door nearby in Avowed.

Civilization 7 healing units

In previous Civilization games, the main point of healing units was to, well, restore some health so they could go back to fighting or scouting the map. While this is also the case in Civilization 7, there's an added feature of needing to heal units before deleting them.

How to heal units in Civilization 7

Civilization 7 offers two ways to heal your units over time:

  • Skip their turn
  • Heal the unit over time

When you first select a unit on the field, you'll find options to build temporary fortifications, move to a specified location, or skip their turn. Skipping a unit's turn gives them some time to rest and restore their health, becoming active after you end the turn and move on to the next.

Alternatively, you can use a separate healing order through a secondary unit menu. To find this, select your character before clicking the arrow next to their portrait. Here, you'll find options for ordering your unit to heal, sleep, or wake them up if they're idle. Similarly, if your unit is fully healed, you can delete it permanently from the game in this same menu.

Civilization 7 heal button
Screenshot by Destructoid

There are pros and cons to both options. Skipping the unit's turn will only heal them for that turn, making them ready to go if you only want a quick refresh before jumping back into battle. However, this can get tedious if you have a massive army that just ended a war and needs several turns to recuperate.

That's where healing comes in. Healing will keep the unit inactive until they're at full health, even if it takes numerous turns. If you're not in immediate danger or just recently ended a fight, returning to friendly territory and healing for a few turns will help you forget about your damaged units for a little while to focus on other matters like building some Wonders and figuring out the next civilization or city-state to destroy.

How to heal your units faster

Civilization 7 also offers multiple ways to buff your health restoration per turn. Here are some tips for healing your units quicker:

  • Stay in friendly territory
  • Invest in Army Commander promotions like Field Medic, Resolute, and Field Commission
  • Set your Town Focus to Fort Town
  • Pick the God of Healing when selecting a Pantheon

Regardless of how far you are in your playthrough, being in friendly territory will heal your units much quicker than being out in the wild or within an enemy zone. This effect only strengthens as you invest in town specializations like Fort Town, granting +5 to healing for any units in that town's radius and +25 health to its walls. If you have a fort town and can spare a turn or two to get there, the increased healing per turn will help you get back into fights much quicker.

Civilization 7 Fort Town specialization
Screenshot by Destructoid

As you advance through your save and unlock more Army Commander promotions, you'll unlock options like Field Medic, Resolute, and Field Commission that provide healing-related benefits both within and outside friendly territory. Field Medic gives your units within the commander's radius +5 healing in enemy and neutral territory, helping to offset the downsides of being outside your civilization's control zone. Similarly, Field Commission lets you upgrade your units outside friendly territory and restores health when they do, while Resolute lets land units heal five health after attacking.

Your last option comes when choosing a Pantheon. Each Pantheon belief influences your influence, happiness, culture, and other aspects depending on their theme, while the God of Healing focuses on giving you +5 healing for units in rural tiles. While other methods are slightly more practical, God of Healing is a solid option if you spend most of your time engaging in combat and have patches of rural land to retreat to.

EA FC 25 N'Golo Kante Grassroots Greats SBC solutions

The N'Golo Kante Grassroot Greats SBC has been leaked on X by @Fut_scoreboard ahead of the promo's launch, and you will be able to complete the challenge pretty soon in EA FC 25 Ultimate Team.

The Frenchman is a popular name in the Ultimate Team community, and the upcoming card's inclusion in an SBC makes it easier for players to obtain him as well.

EA FC 25 N'Golo Kante Grassroot Greats SBC release date (expected)

The Grassroot Greats promo will go live on Friday, February 14. This will be a week-long promo, so it's guaranteed that the release date won't be too far away. There's a great chance for EA Sports to release the SBC on the opening night of the promo (February 14) at 6 pm UK time.

However, there's also a strong chance for it to appear during the weekend. Typically, EA Sports releases big promo SBCs on Saturdays and Sundays. Hence, be on the lookout for February 15 and February 16.

EA FC 25 N'Golo Kante Grassroot Greats SBC costs (predicted)

Thankfully, the leakers have revealed the official stats and playstyles of the card. Here's what the card should look like if the rumors turn out to be true.

  • Overall: 90
  • Position: CDM
  • Pace: 86
  • Shooting: 70
  • Passing: 82
  • Dribbling: 87
  • Defense: 90
  • Physicality: 85
  • Playstyle+: Press Proven+, Anticipate+.

If this SBC costs between 300,000 and 350,000 coins worth of fodder, it will offer great value for players. I predict the SBC will cost around 450,000 coins since Kante is always a popular choice. If the overall rating turns out to be 90, there's a chance for the SBC to be slightly cheaper as well.

Memory of the Deep in Avowed

One of the first side quests you can encounter when you arrive in Emerald Stair in Avowed is called "Memory of the Deep." The quest begins by speaking to a farmer named Josep Abaccio and seems simple at first, but it turns complicated in a hurry.

To see how to complete Memory of the Deep and all of its outcomes in Avowed, check out the quest guide below.

How to complete Memory of the Deep in Avowed

To start Memory of the Deep, visit the Coastal Farmlands area of Emerald Stair, which is one of the first locations you can reach after stepping foot in the region. In the farmlands, find Josep Abaccio, a farmer who has a problem with revenants disappearing from his land. Revenants are undead, plant-like zombies that the animancers in Emerald Stair have charmed into working for them.

Josep Abaccio starts the Memory of the Deep quest. Screenshot by Destructoid

While the idea sounds good in theory, Josep Abaccio can't seem to hang on to any of the revenants he has. He tasks you with figuring out where the revenants are disappearing to and to try and bring them back to him. The farmer's theory is that the revenants are drawn to the nearby Lake Lacuna, so he suggests you head there to search.

When you arrive at the lake, you'll run into a new character called the Giftbearer, who is surrounded by Josep's former revenants. This mysterious NPC tells you there is a Meteorite he needs from the bottom of the lake and you theorize that this object is what has been drawing the revenants to the location. The Giftbearer agrees with that theory, but he wants the Meteorite for himself. Of course, Joseph will also want the Meteorite to ensure his revenants stay with him.

Putting that aside for now, you can dive down into the lake and easily retrieve the Meteorite. It's lying on the bottom of a hole in the middle of the lake and you'll have enough air to go down and come back up if you solely go for the Meteorite. Once you have it in hand, you have a choice to make.

You can either bring the Meteorite to Josep or the Giftbearer. I'll go over the outcomes of both decisions below:

  • Bring the Meteorite to Josep - You can explain to Josep that the Meteorite is dangerous, but he'll still want it so he can study its properties. If you hand it over to him, you'll receive 550 gold and the Chanter's Panpipes trinket as a reward.

    • No matter how hard you persist, Josep will always want the Meteorite, so there's no way for you to keep it.

Josep is happy to hear you found the Meteorite. Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Bring the Meteorite to the Giftbearer - Returning the Meteorite to the Giftbearer at the docks of the Coastal Farmlands gives you a secondary choice in the quest.

    • You can hand the rock to the NPC and he will sail on his way, completing the quest and giving you the same rewards as Josep offers.
    • However, you can also agree to a new arrangement, where the Giftbearer will remove one of your memories instead of taking the Meteorite. The memory you choose to erase doesn't matter, but you have four to choose from.
    • If you make this choice, the Giftbearer will sail away, leaving you with the Meteorite. You can then take it to Josep to complete the Memory of the Deep quest.

The Giftbearer can erase one of your memories. Screenshot by Destructoid

Regardless of what decision you make, the rewards are the same in the end. I decided to have the Giftbearer erase a painful memory of mine and then return the Meteorite to Josep, as it seemed like he needed it more. However, you can just as easily deliver the Meteorite to the Giftbearer and watch him sail away, never to be seen again in Avowed.

All Sonic Racing CrossWorlds characters include Sonic and Tails

There are plenty of Sonic Racing CrossWorlds to choose from, and some of the hedgehog's friends are making their first appearance in the kart racing franchise. Sage from Sonic Frontiers, for example, will be playable for the first time.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds features many Sonic the Hedgehog characters

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds features many residents from the world of Mobius, the largest roster so far for any Sonic racing game with 23 racers at launch, according to a website image leak from Sonic Paradise. Fansite Sonic Stadium confirmed the following are in the game:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Knuckles the Echidna
  • Miles "Tails" Prower
  • Amy Rose
  • Shadow the Hedgehog
  • Dr. Eggman
  • Rouge
  • E-123 Omega
  • Storm
  • Wave
  • Jet
  • Charmy
  • Espio
  • Vector
  • Blaze
  • Silver
  • Cream
  • Zavok
  • Zazz
  • Big the Cat
  • Metal Sonic
  • Egg Pawn
  • Sage

Will there be Sega characters in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds?

A Sega press release has confirmed that the game will feature "iconic characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog and Sega universes," so it would make sense to see heroes like Billy Hatcher, Like a Dragon's Kazuma Kiryu, and Persona's Joker join the fray. We also saw a past track, inspired by After Burner, return in the gameplay reveal trailer.

It would be cool to race in areas like Persona 5's Momentos and Like a Dragon's Kabukichō in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

https://youtu.be/Ks_Uxuhz6nc

What is unique about this game?

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is an exciting sequel to the series. It lets players drive through portals into different worlds in the blink of an eye. At one point, you'll be racing under dinosaurs, and the next, you might be drifting around a corner in a stadium. It's a unique take on the kart racing genre. We'll also be able to drive monster trucks and hoverboards Sonic Riders-style in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

It seems to be a decent alternative to the next Mario Kart entry, especially for those who can't afford a Nintendo Switch 2.

Woedica Inheritance Treasure Map Avowed

There are a variety of treasure maps you can find in Avowed, and one of the earlier ones you can attempt to follow is called Woedia's Inheritance. This treasure map is purchased from a shop vendor in Paradis and depicts a location that should look familiar to you.

Of course, who wants to spend time searching the entirety of Dawnshore for some treasure? To make matters simpler, follow our guide below to easily find the Woedica's Inheritance treasure.

How to start Woedica's Inheritance in Avowed

To start the Woedica's Inheritance treasure map side quest in Avowed, you need to visit Sanza's Emporium in Paradis. Specifically, this emporium is located in Paradis Hightown, which you can visit separately by going through the High Market Gate on the northern side of the city. Paradis Hightown can't be accessed unless you go through this gate.

The location of Sanza's Emporium in Paradis Hightown. Screenshot by Destructoid

Sanza's Emporium is also the location of a Totem artifact in Avowed. We have a separate guide on how to find that Totem piece along with all of the other Totems in Dawnshore.

Woedica's Inheritance treasure location in Avowed

If you look closely at the image the Woedica's Inheritance treasure map depicts, you might notice it looks like Paradis is in the background. You'd be correct in assuming this, but Paradis is quite large and the image only shows some rocks and trees next to the city, which isn't too helpful in pinpointing an exact location.

Fortunately, I happened to stumble across the exact spot the treasure map shows within a few minutes of searching. It's extremely easy to miss, though, as all of Paradis tends to blend together out in Dawnshore, especially during the daytime.

The exact location the Woedica's Inheritance treasure map shows. Screenshot by Destructoid

If you want to find this spot for yourself in Avowed, that's totally understandable. However, if you just want the treasure, look below to see exactly where this spot is on the Dawnshore map.

The map location of the Woedica's Inheritance treasure. Screenshot by Destructoid

As you can see, the area is right next to The Mermaid's Den in Paradis and to the west of Usher's Hand. When you reach the spot shown in the screenshot above, head up the trail alongside the walls of Paradis. Eventually, you'll come to the end of the wall and see a part of the covered in leaves with some pink mushrooms next around.

The location of the secret room that contains Woedica's Inheritance. Screenshot by Destructoid

You might notice there's a section of this wall that looks like a door, but there's seemingly no way to open it. Well, if you turn around from the wall and look behind you on your right, right behind a mushroom, you'll see a small switch. You can press the switch to open the secret door.

The switch that opens the secret treasure room. Screenshot by Destructoid

Inside the door is a room with a golden chest. Open the chest to uncover the Woedica's Inheritance treasure, which contains the unique Gloves of the Strangler. This completes the Woedica's Inheritance treasure map in Avowed and rewards you with some pretty useful gloves, especially for the earlier part of the game.

Regardless of where you are in Avowed, you can come back to complete this treasure map at any time. It's not a timed quest like some of the other side content in the RPG, so don't worry about grabbing the treasure as soon as you find the map for it. However, the Gloves of the Strangler do become more obsolete the more you level up, so if you want to make use of them, it might be in your best interest to nab the treasure sooner rather than later.

Lost Suoles quest giver in Avowed

Lost Suoles is a side quest you can accept from a man named Miteno in the undercity of Paradis in Avowed. Miteno has lost four medallions, which were taken by birds and placed in their nests all around the docks of Paradis.

To help out Miteno and complete the Lost Suoles quest in Avowed, check out the guide below to see all the medallion locations and how to reach them.

How to complete the Lost Suoles quest in Avowed

Miteno has lost four medallions, and you're charged with getting them back. Screenshot by Destructoid

There are four "Soulenets" spread out near Miteno's initial location in Paradis. They are all in a bird nest and require some form of parkour to reach. As such, if you have any gauntlets or pieces of jewelry that boost your parkour speed or efficiency, that might be something you want to throw on for the duration of the quest.

Fortunately, all of the nests can be reached without any tricks, even though it might not initially seem like it. There are a couple of nests that will require a little finesse to get to, which is why we're going over each medallion's location separately below:

Worn Suolenet

The location of the Worn Suolenet medallion. Screenshot by Destructoid

The first medallion you can find is the Worn Suolenet, which is marked as "A" on your map when you first start the Lost Suoles quest. This is one of the toughest medallions to reach, as the nest you need to get to is on a balcony that's not attached to anything you can climb on.

In order to reach the nest, you need to look down from the nest, turn around, and find a small building with graffiti writing on a red wall. Right underneath this red wall is a ladder that you can climb up. From the top of the ladder, turn around and jump on the shingled roof that's across from the ladder. On the shingled roof, climb onto the nearby balcony, and from that point, you can jump onto the platform where the nest is. In the screenshot below, you can see exactly where you need to stand to make the jump to the nest:

The jump spot for the Worn Suolenet. Screenshot by Destructoid

Tarnished Suolenet

The next medallion you want to go for is the Tarnished Suolenet, now marked as "B" on your map, and you'll actually want to stay on the balcony that the Worn Suolenet is on to reach it. While technically, the Chipped Suolenet is next, it's not as close to the previous medallion.

The Tarnished Suolenet is located on a pole that has a cloth covering on it. So you need to reach the balcony the pole is supporting, climb carefully on the pole, and reach inside the nest to retrieve the medallion.

Battered Suolenet

The Battered Suolenet's location. Screenshot by Destructoid

The third medallion to aim for is the Battered Suolenet, which is marked as "B" on your map if you've already found the Worn and Tarnished Suolenets. The Battered Suolenet is a little tougher to reach, as you need to stand on a precarious perch and make a jump to get to the nest.

Right below the platform where the nest is, you can climb on top of some boxes and stand on top of a wooden plank, as seen in the screenshot below. From there, make a jump to the nest's location and grab the Battered Suolenet.

The plank you need to stand on for the jump. Screenshot by Destructoid

Chipped Suolenet

The Chipped Suolenet's location. Screenshot by Destructoid

Finally, we've arrived at the fourth and final Suolenet. Initially marked as "B" on your map, the Chipped Suolenet is now "A" if you found the Worn Suolenet first. The Chipped Suolenet is incredibly difficult to reach, as the nest it's residing in is located on a small balcony that's not connected to anything.

To reach it, turn around from the nest's location and head up to the balconies that overlook where Miteno is located. These balconies can be reached by going up the same ladder you used to reach the Worn Suolenet. However, in this case, don't turn to the right, which is where the Worn Suolenet's nest is. Instead, turn left and jump on the red roof. This allows you to go right to the Chipped Suolenet's nest after mantling up to it from the bar area.

You need to jump on the roof straight ahead. Screenshot by Destructoid

Once you nab the Chipped Suolenet, you have all four of Miteno's medallions. You can now return to him at the bar, and you technically have a choice to make. You can choose to keep the medallions and tell Miteno you couldn't find them or give the medallions back to their rightful owner.

There's not a huge disparity in the choice you make, as you get gold for returning the medallions but you can also sell the medallions if you don't give them back. Either way, the Lost Suoles quest is complete in Avowed.

Carryck in Avowed

After you're through the character creation screen in Avowed, you'll be able to pick one out of five Backgrounds that help define your character.

Your Background gives you unique dialogue options throughout the entire game and determines what you're starting weapon is. So, does your Background make a huge difference, and which one is the best to pick in Avowed?

What is your Background in Avowed?

Before we go too far into the weeds of the different Backgrounds in Avowed, let's quickly go over what they are. For the most part, your Background gives you access to certain dialogue options in dozens of conversations during your playthrough. You won't always be able to select one of these unique dialogue options, but they do come up fairly often and lead to some interesting dialogue from the character you're speaking to that you wouldn't have heard otherwise.

The five Background options in Avowed. Screenshot by Destructoid

In addition to the dialogue options, your Background helps decide what you're starting weapon will be in Avowed. Your starting weapon is available in your inventory right away, but you'll be able to pick it up five minutes into the game. While this might sound like a big deal, it doesn't have to be.

Just because you choose a specific Background doesn't mean you're limited to a certain weapon class or combat style. If you pick a Background and get a melee weapon to start, you can easily swap to a ranged weapon as soon as you get access to one in Avowed. Of course, you can choose to stick with your Background's preferred weapon if you really want to get into the RPG side of things, but that's entirely optional.

Finally, the last element to your Background is a backstory for your character. Every Background has a unique backstory you can read through during the character creation process. This doesn't play any role in the gameplay of Avowed, so you can pay as much or as little attention to it as you want.

All Backgrounds in Avowed

Now that you understand a little more about how Backgrounds work, we can talk about each one. There are five to choose from in Avowed, and all of them have a different name and backstory. You can see them all below:

  • Arcane Scholar (starting weapon: Dagger)
  • Court Augur (starting weapon: Mace)
  • Noble Scion (starting weapon: Sword)
  • Vanguard Scout (starting weapon: Single-Handed Axe)
  • War Hero (starting weapon: Spear)

Best Background to choose in Avowed

The Background you choose doesn't play a huge factor in Avowed's story. Screenshot by Destructoid

Truthfully, your Background doesn't play a major role in the grand scheme of things. While it does determine your starting weapon, you'll find just about every available weapon in Avowed by the first or second hour of your playthrough. This includes wands for spellcasting, a pistol and rifle, and plenty of stronger melee weapons.

The main reason you might want to select a specific Background is you resonate with its backstory. I chose Vanguard Scout because I liked the idea of being a trusted operative of the emperor who has skills both in and outside of court. However, every Background starts the game the same way, so the backstory is just for you to keep in the back of your mind throughout the story.

Usually, the unique dialogue options for every Background stem from its backstory. So, if you choose the War Hero Background, you'll often see dialogue options that talk about bravery and not backing down from a fight.

Overall, if you want to stick true to the RPG elements of Avowed, then you want to pick the Background that offers the most appealing starting weapon and backstory to you. Out of all the starting weapon options, the Mace is arguably the best choice, as it features high damage and a solid attack rate without costing too much stamina.

However, the Sword and Axe are strong as well if you want traditional melee combat. The Spear and Dagger are more niche weapons that you can use to your advantage, but they don't make for particularly great every-fight options in Avowed.

  • Kobel 88
  • Ederson 88
  • Reiten 88

The new Dembele item has its fair share of strengths, with 95 Pace, 5* Weak Foot/Skills, and Rapid+ being its best aspects. The base Shooting (81) is really low, and Whipped Cross+ can hardly be considered as a meta. If you have already used him the TOTY Blueprint evolution, it makes little sense to complete this SBC.

The recently-released Andrea Pirlo Future Stars Icon SBC and Fernando Torres Future Stars Icon SBCs have far better value proposition in comparison.

Using the Bubble Wand in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a game filled with adventure and collection. There are many different items to gather up, including Critters. If you want to catch Critters under the water, you'll need to unlock a specific tool called the Bubble Wand.

The Bubble Wand is your ticket to filling up the Reef room at the Nature Reserve, but it doesn't become available to unlock until you've made some decent progression through the main story and leveled up your friendships with several characters.

How to get the Bubble Wand Crafting Plans in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

Screenshot by Destructoid

Before you can even think of trying to get the Bubble Wand, you'll need to complete the following checklist of quests:

  • "Finding Flippers" (Keroppi level 1)
  • "Open the Nature Preserve" (Keroppi level 2)
  • "Deep Diving" (Kuromi level 6)
  • "Comic Relief" (Hangyodon level 6)
  • "Bring Back the Swing" (Pekkle level 5)
  • "Enraging Ruins" (Retsuko level 7)

When that's done, you can get the Bubble Wand itself. To do this, you'll need to complete the "Magic Bubble Wand" quest, which involves finding three parts of the Bubble Wand Crafting Plans that are scattered in chests across Friendship Island.

Here's where to find each chest and maps to help guide you to the right locations.

Hangyodon's Chest

After talking to Hangyodon at the sign near the Comedy Club, you'll then need to head off to the Sunken Ship to find the first chest. When you get there, head as far to the left as you can while remaining at the sea bed, and the chest can be found on a ledge halfway up.

Once you've found it, return to Hangyodon before moving on to the next step with Retsuko.

Retsuko's Chest

Retsuko can be found at the sign near the Hot Springs on Mount Hothead. After talking to her, you'll need to head northwest and climb up the cliff to the right side of the waterfalls feeding the Springs. The chest is located on the right side of the ledge above.

Take the plans back to Retsuko, and then you can head off in search of the third and final part of the Bubble Wand Crafting Plans.

Pekkle's Chest

During this quest, Pekkle will be found inside the Crystal Caves on Gemstone Mountain. If you've explored this area thoroughly, you'll likely already know where the sign is. After talking to Pekkle at the sign, head left and enter the door that glows purple. The chest is located to the very left of this purple room, and opening it will give you the final part of the Crafting Plans.

Once you've completed the full set of Crafting Plans, you can head to Chococat's Crafting Table near the Resort Gate in Seaside Resort, even if you've unlocked the closer Crafting Table on Gemstone Mountain.

To craft the Bubble Wand, you'll need the following resources:

  • 5 Box Clams

    • 7 Box Clams can be collected per day around Rainbow Reef, but they can also be rewarded from Seapony Racing and the Fwishing Well

  • 20 Starfish

    • These pink Starfish can be found around the floor and rocks of Rainbow Reef, up to a maximum of 17 per day

  • 3 Mechanisms

    • Made using 3 Gizmos, which are rewarded for giving gifts to Chococat

How to use the Bubble Wand in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

The Bubble Wand can be used to collect any Critter that swims or floats around in any underwater area, but it doesn't work on Fish. To use it, you must select it as your active tool via the Tool Wheel.

The Bubble Wand works almost identically to the Net, with one subtle difference. When you use the Bubble Wand, a bubble will shoot out and encase any nearby underwater Critter. You then need to swim into this bubble and pop it to pick up the Critter, or it will otherwise escape.

Playable character in Avowed

As a Godlike, you'll continuously find ways to unlock your hidden potential, bringing out powers beyond your wildest dreams. One such chance occurs during the Ancient Soil main quest, where you are presented with the choice to refuse or accept Sapadal's powers. Let's dive into this crucial decision in Avowed.

Be warned: there are major spoilers ahead for certain powers and characters in the Avowed main campaign.

Avowed Ancient Soil quest Sapadal's power decision, explained

In the Ancient Soil quest, Sapadal will ask for your help while exploring Emerald Stair. In return, they'll assist you in your quest to put an end to the Dreamscourge and empower you with a gift to further your skills. If you choose to accept Sapadal's powers, you'll receive the Thorn of Sapadal, a Godlike ability that unleashes energy thorns on multiple enemies. This skill not only damages foes but also immobilizes them through its roots.

Those who refuse Sapadal's power will still receive a bonus of Godlike's Will, offering an additional Ability Point for the Fighter, Ranger, or Wizard Ability Trees. Sapadal will also express their disappointment with this decision but won't retaliate against you.

Now that we've compared both decisions, it's best to take Sapadal's powers, as they further your strength with the unique new ability. It's pretty robust compared to your other skills, covering a much wider range than most. However, there may be some consequences later if you accept these additional powers throughout the adventure. I don't necessarily see a negative impact after making this decision, particularly with Companions and the storyline. The result is more or less the same with both choices.

Sapadal decision in Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

Sapadal also seems to have your best interest in mind, so accepting it shouldn't be too consequential. Regardless, it's totally up to you to decide whether you will accept or refuse Sapadal's powers in Avowed. If you're inclined to get rid of the Dreamscourge on your own, then by all means, refuse this offer. You'll at least get a bonus Ability Point for your character, improving any of your multiple classes.

Dual Pistols in Avowed

Avowed's versatile combat system empowers you to experiment with any class, from a traditional fighter to a wizard armed with a gun. With countless ways to customize your loadouts, we're here to guide you with the best weapon combinations in Avowed.

What are the best weapon loadouts in Avowed?

Many weapons in Avowed allow you to equip a second tool using one-handed items. However, tools like the Great Sword, Great Axe, and Bow require both hands, so you won't see them on the list below. Initially, you'll start with Common-type weapons until you eventually acquire upgraded materials by exploring the Living Lands, progressing in the story, and solving treasure maps. I've provided a recommended build with each loadout, but you're more than welcome to use other variants if you've discovered something better.

Grimoire and Pistol - Breaking the Mage Mold

Grimoire and Pistol loadout in Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

Recommended Weapons: Grimoire of the Elements and Caeroc's Pride

If you're looking for a class that stands out, consider this unique build that fuses a mage's mystical elements with a gunman's deadly bullets. This loadout is best suited for medium to long-range combat, requiring you to rely on dodging maneuvers. However, you can take comfort in the protection offered by the grimoire's Arcane Veil shield or Giatta's Barrier.

Spear and Shield - A Spartan-like Build

Shield and Spear loadout in Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

Recommended Weapons: Giant's Slumber and Exceptional Round Shield

When facing off against Avowed's enormous creatures, I always like to whip out a shield and spear. It's proven helpful for gigantic beasts like bears, stunning them with a spear's long-range and guarding you with a shield. I also found it beneficial to have a grimoire with your second loadout to inflict elemental damage on these fearsome creatures.

Pistol and Pistol - The Ultimate Gunsman

Dual Pistols loadout in Avowed

Recommended Weapons: Caeroc's Pride and Exceptional Pistol

I never would've thought a fantasy RPG like Avowed would have a Call of Duty-like Akimbo build, and yet here we are. The build is a blast to use, flying out bullets left and right. The only drawback is its focus on offense over defense, but you can always switch to your other loadout for better protection.

Mace and Pistol - Most Devastating build

Mace and Pistol loadout in Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

Recommended Weapons: Exceptional Mace and Exceptional Pistol

The Mace and Pistol should be your first pick if you want a high damage rate loadout. When an enemy is at a distance, you can utilize a pistol's medium range to stun and possibly eliminate enemies with one hit. Then, once your opponent gets closer to you, you can bust out the mace to get them off your back.

Grimoire and Wand - Wizard Master

Grimoire and wand loadout in Avowed
Screenshot by Destructoid

Recommended Weapons: Grimoire of the Greater Elements and Minoletta's Conduit

Even though there aren't set classes in Avowed, you can at least pretend with your builds. The grimoire and wand loadout is a perfect example, letting you become the mage you were born to be. You'll have the power of magic on your side, casting spells with your grimoire and homing projectiles with the wand.

Sword/Axe and Shield - Classic Warrior Build

Shield and Axe Avowed loadout

Recommended Weapons: Last Light of Day sword/Exceptional Axe and Unfliching Duty shield

The classic sword/axe and shield have worked well for me, especially during the beginning stages of Avowed. This weapon combination is the most balanced build, giving you advantages with offense and defense. If you prefer swift movements and average damage, use the sword. But if you're after greater damage at a slight cost to your movement, the axe should be your choice.

Sword and Sword - Edward Sword-hands

Dual swords in Avowed

Recommended Weapons: Last Light of Day sword and Exceptional Sword

If the dual pistols didn't quite match your style, the dual swords might be more your speed. While it may not be the most defensive build, it's undeniably fun. The fast-paced attacks are a joy to use, and there's something satisfying about spamming the attack buttons, constantly swinging the sword for more hits. Just keep an eye on your stamina, as it can deplete rapidly with enough strikes.

Grimoire and Sword - The Fireball

Recommended Weapons: Grimoire of Embers and Last Light of Day sword

Whenever it comes to RPGs, I've always dreamed of fusing the might of a warrior with the mystic power of a mage. And now, that dream is within reach thanks to this build. It perfectly blends elemental destruction from the grimoire with the raw power of swordplay, offering the best of both worlds. Plus, if you want to become a fiery master, you can use the Last Light of Day sword from the Dawntreader quest with a fire-based grimoire, engulfing enemies in flames.

Recommended Weapons: Sheathed in the Summer and Minoletta's Conduit

Ending this Avowed list, we have yet another unique loadout with a dagger and wand. Although daggers offer very low damage and stun, they'll at least provide swift movements and high chances of Critical Hit lands. If the enemy is at medium range, you can use the wand for its projectiles. All in all, this build just looks cool, almost as if you're a musical composer with dual batons.

Giatta, Kai, Marius, and Yatzli

Exploring the Living Lands alone will be quite challenging, especially when hordes of deadly creatures are on your tail. Fortunately, it's not all bad with the help of your allies. Find out what Companions are available in Avowed, including where to find them.

Avowed Companion locations and abilities

Avowed features four companions: Giatta, Kai, Marius, and Yatzli. Each of them possesses distinct powers that can be directed using Companion Commands, from clearing obstacles to detecting enemies. You can also customize their skins with the Premium Edition, showcasing exclusive cosmetics for each Companion. We'll delve into their individual abilities and what quests are required to unlock them in the Avowed main campaign.

Kai

Kai in Avowed

  • Required Quest: Message from Afar

Upon landing in Dawnshore, you'll meet Kai, an Aumaua Fighter with fiery powers. He's known to be quicker than the others, as he doesn't lug around heavy armor. Kai's also great for getting rid of obstacles using his Firestarter Command, as well as knocking down foes with his unique weapon combination of a sword and gun. If you're looking for good advice, Kai is your man. He's fairly neutral in most situations and will always be direct with you when something's on his mind.

Marius

Marius in Avowed

  • Required Quest: An Untimely End

The Ranger Marius will act as your guide, leading you toward valuable loot and resourceful plants. His Hunter's Sense also identifies enemies nearby to help you get a better lay of the land. Overall, he's a natural regarding exploration and the inhabitants of the wilds. However, since he's only really thrived as a hunter, he's not accustomed to much civility during conversations.

Giatta

Giatta in Avowed

  • Required Quest: The Animancy Method

Like many of your comrades, Giatta carries a sorrowful past that fuels her relentless drive to rise above it. As a Wizard, she's on a mission to continue her parent's research, using her versatile elemental powers. She'll often support you in battle, including healing and barrier abilities. When it comes to conversations, she does come off as a bit blunt, especially when authority figures are involved.

Yatzli

Yatzli in Avowed

  • Required Quest: A Path to the Garden

Yatzli will be the last companion you'll encounter in Avowed. She's a Wizard with a lot of spunk, which comes in handy in the game's many battles. If you need help with magic, she's practically an expert in grimoires. But, she may flirt with you here and there to rile you up. Don't fall for it, though, since there is, unfortunately, no romance in Avowed.

Sanza in Avowed

As you journey out of Dawnshore, a crucial Sanza-related quest awaits you involving the missing cartographers. This time, your task is to locate Fleccia in Emerald Stair, and we're here to guide you to her precise location in Avowed.

How to complete Mapping the Living Lands: Emerald Stair quest in Avowed

According to the quest's hint, you can find the Emerald Stair Cartographer at Naku Tedek Grounds (to the left of Maxim's Claim). You'll likely venture here with your new Companion during the main quest, Ancient Soil. Like the Dawnshore Cartographer, Fleccia's location will be displayed as a circular radius on the map. To locate her, go to the Naku Tadek Grounds' cliffside (on the right).

Be prepared for a fight when approaching the cartographer's whereabouts. Use any resources from the merchants or nearby structures at the center of Naku Tadek Grounds. You'll certainly need all the help you can get here, as Emerald Stair's opponents are much more challenging than those in Dawnshore. Once you eliminate them, walk towards a small graveyard near a wooden fence.

You'll find the Emerald Stair Cartographer lying by a rock, where you must pick up Fleccia's Map on the cliffside.

Return to Sanza's Emporium at Dawnshore (in the Hightown district). Use the High Market Beacon fast travel point to get there quickly. Then, speak to Sanza to tell him the unfortunate news. You'll now conclude Avowed's Mapping the Living Lands: Emerald Stair quest, but there's still more work to be done. Sanza will still need a map of all the Living Lands, which you'll continue to explore throughout the main quest.

Although this Emerald Stair mission doesn't really provide you with any rewards (besides XP), you'll most likely get a big reward by the end of the questline. You can also talk to Sanza to see his supply list, including a treasure map of Woedica's Inheritance and a quest item for the Totem of Rightful Rulership.

Starmetal Fragment in Avowed

While most resources in Dawnshore can instantly be used for crafting, the Fragment of Starmetal is one of the few that requires an extra pair of hands. We're here to show you where to find the Starmeal Smithy in Avowed, including how to start the mission for it.

Be warned there are spoilers ahead for a later game area in the Avowed main campaign.

Where to find Fragment of Starmetal in Avowed

Before we get into the smithy's location, let's start with how to find the Starmetal first. Venture to the bottom-right corner of the Paradis map to discover the Godless Altar. It'll be directly in front of the Emerald Stair Gatehouse Beacon.

Eliminate the Xaurip enemies lingering there to acquire the Fragment of Starmetal on the table.

You'll begin the Forged of Star-Stuff quest, starting the task to find the smithy. However, there isn't a precise waypoint to this mysterious character, as you must ask around to pinpoint the forger's location.

Avowed Starmetal Smithy location

Since the Starmeal quest involves a forge, I went to various blacksmiths around the Living Lands, inquiring about this material. Unfortunately, blacksmiths from the starter areas, like Gweneth from Dawnshore and Stephan from Emerald Stair, can't help you out here. It wasn't until I arrived in Thirdborn that I discovered the Starmeal can only be used at Galawain's Tusks via Solace Keep's Forgemaster. The Galawain's Tusks is the volcanic region (home of the Solace people) in the top-right corner of the map.

Solace Keep will only be available during the game's later stages, so you'll need to progress further in the main story to access it. Based on Stephan's hint, the Starmetal allows you to make powerful weapons, like a Starmetal Mace. You likely won't see this remarkable material too often, primarily since it's classified as a "rare piece."

If you have yet to reach Galawain's Tusks, just hold onto the Starmetal for the time being. Considering that it's a quest item, you can't sell or drop it from your inventory. It doesn't weigh anything, either, so there's no need to worry about your storage space. For more help in the Dawnshore region, check out our guide on the Escape Plan.

To find Captain Henqua's Spoils Treasure Map, you must go up the lighthouse in Dawnshore. You can use Claviger's Landing Beacon, the starting point of this region, to fast travel there.

Acquire the Wind and Wave shield to complete the Captain Henqua's Spoils Treasure Map quest in Avowed. This shield provides 63 Block Efficiency, 20 Stability, 220 Parry Efficiency, and 30 Elemental Resistance. It'll make you move around faster and gain a 20 percent frost resistance. Given that the shield is of Exceptional Quality, it'll make for a great starter tool and an asset to your weapon combinations.

You can also interact with the chest to claim more goodies, including Golden Scelling, a Common Mail Hauberk, two Pelts, and a Softwood Branch. It's a lot of stuff, so you may want to send it over to the camp, just in case you get encumbered.

Totem of Rightful Rulership in Avowed

The gods of Eora's pantheon will bestow various totems throughout the Living Lands, giving you additional buffs for your journey. While at Dawnshore, you can collect pieces of the Totem of Rightful Rulership, an artifact based on Woedica. Here's how to find all the Dawnshore totem fragments in Avowed.

How to complete the Totem of Rightful Rulership quest in Avowed

Totem fragments will be cleverly hidden around Dawnshore, linking to riddles that Sanza provides you with at his shop. Sometimes, they'll be out in the open, while other times, you'll be scratching your head, wondering, "Where, oh where could this little item be?" To avoid going on a wild goose chase, we'll break each Totem of Rightful Rulership location down in Avowed.

When searching for the missing cartographer in Dawnshore, you'll encounter one of the totem pieces near Usher's Hand. You can use the Eye of Rymrgand to freeze the gate (it'll be right below this gate) or swim down to reach the Golden Plaque of Oaths Totem Fragment.

If you speak to Sanza at his emporium in Hightown, he'll provide hints for the rest of the totem pieces through the Fragment of the Scales Quest Item. For the totem base, travel to the Shrine to Woedica at the top-right corner of the map. Go up the large set of stairs with an arch to find the Scales of the Oathbinder totem piece.

Go to the lighthouse to reach the Golden Plaque of Promises. Use the ladder on the left to climb higher and jump across the wooden platforms there. By the mid-point, you'll discover the totem fragment inside an opening in the lighthouse. You can also go up further to claim Captain Henqua's Spoils Treasure Map.

Golden Scale of Justice location

Apothecary's Shop map location

The Golden Scale of Justice is one of the trickiest totems to find, as it is carefully hidden by a balcony near Paradis' Apothecary's Shop. There will be plenty of balconies to explore here, but you'll need to go through a specific route just to find the correct one. First, go up the wooden structures by the Apothecary's Shop.

Make your way to the left side, where a painting with an egg resides. Enter the room near there and burn down the webs using Kai's Companion Command or your own magic.

Eliminate the Phantoms inside the room, and you'll see the Golden Scale of Justice on the ground next to a fallen bookcase.

Golden Flames location

The Golden Flames hint will lead you to an "isle of wicked outlaws." This destination is none other than Castol's Folly, which you may have explored during the Precious Light side quest. Climb up to get to the right side of the island, where you can follow a fire trail.

Look to the cliffside to spot the Golden Flames near the edge.

The last hint from the Fragment of the Scales item indicates that the Golden Scale of Order is inside "Dwarven halls." The in-game description mentions the Pargrunen subculture consists of Mountain Dwarves, leading you to Pargrun Cache on the top-left corner of the Dawnshore map. Use a bow to shoot the explosive barrels near a stone wall.

Walk inside and follow the pathway to get closer to the totem fragment. Watch out for tripwires on the ground to avoid deadly traps. Eventually, you'll go up against a few enemies, so get rid of them to explore the area freely. Approach the entryway blocked by some roots and shoot the barrels inside. If you don't do this, you'll end up causing an explosion when breaking the wall from the other side.

Go to the left of this building to enter the new opening. Next, travel up the wooden structures and continue up this pathway until you reach the Golden Scale of Order on a nest.

Now that you have all seven totem pieces, it's time to set up your Party Camp. Approach the Totem area and place down the fragments. You'll complete Avowed's Totem of Rightful Rulership quest and earn six new buffs for your party while it's active.
