Vroom. Vroom vroom. Vroom vroom vroom. Ahem, sorry, dunno what happened to me there. Assetto Corsa EVO, the three-letter-yelling follow up to one on Steam's long-reigning top racing sims, has just gotten its third early access update. It adds in online multiplayer, plus a bunch of fresh cars and tracks to hop into moments before you're unceremoniously punted off by a random.

I've been playing a bit of a waiting game with AC EVO since yapping about it at length for my old home when it first debuted in early access at the start of this year, but this might be the point I hop behind its wheel agaion and see how devs Kunos Simulazioni have managed to flesh it out so far. After all, they've now added in a 90s Merc 190E, which is pretty much square German saloon kryptonite for my will to hold off on checking things out.

Tasty-looking space games fill the atmosphere nowadays like satellite launch debris, but perhaps you'll find room in your weirdly adapted magnetic fishing net for one more - Kaigan's Nullspace. I came across it in yesterday's Indie Fan Fest stream, and I quite like the cut of its torpedo bays.

Nullspace grabs me for a couple of reasons. One is its "retrofuturistic universe", which strikes me as both sleek and cosy. It's kind of chibi Homeworld. The kitbashed ships come alive with swivelling turrets and manoeuvring jets, but something about the way they're proportioned, patterned and lit also makes me think of freshly piped cake icing. I also quite like the Star Fox-style jabbering heads of unit commanders in the bottom corner.

Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake New Ocean Floor Area Detailed

Right as TGS 2025 week started, Square Enix shared a new Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake trailer that highlighted a new Ocean Floor area for the second game in the series. Now it shared new screenshots and details about the Mermaid-focused storyline and extra Hargon's Champion boss that appear under the sea. While this update didn't note exactly it will come up during the adventure, the screenshots do show all four members of the party are present during it.

Apparently, at one point in Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake story, the players will happen upon two mermaids in a cove. The pair of them will introduce us to Mersea, an underwater city where that race lives. Hargon is causing trouble down there too, with his monsters and Champion Mariella threatening them. We'll then head underwater to the city to help the Mermaid Guard fight back, explore shipwrecks, check the depths of the ocean, and face Mariella to ensure that area also remains safe.

Here's the latest batch of screenshots showing what to expect from the Mersea and Ocean Floor adventures.

Square Enix also shared official art of Mariella.

Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 30, 2025, and TGS 2025 runs September 25-28, 2025.

Atelier Ryza and Yumia Nendoroid Updates Appear at TGS 2025

Good Smile Company shared in-progress photos of the Atelier Ryza 2 and Atelier Yumia Nendoroids of Reisalin Stout and Yumia Liessfeldt on social media during TGS 2025. Each one is now in the unpainted prototype stage, following their initial concept art reveals during Nendoroid Funs 2025 Winter. There's still no release window for either one yet.

In the case of the Atelier Ryza figure, this is the second one in this line. The first was based on her appearance in the original game, as was the first figma. This means she has her updated outfit, hairstyle, and staff. The face plate shown for this prototype features an open-mouth smile, and it also wears a hat that seems like it could be removable.

In the case of Yumia, this is the first Nendoroid based on a character from that game. She hold a staff for her figure, and her outfit also includes the bird-shaped pouch on her belt. The face plate used for the example involves a more subdued, closed-mouth smile.

The Atelier Ryza 2 Reisalin Stout and Atelier Yumia Yumia Liessfeldt Nendoroids are in development. Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy appeared on the PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC, and Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land can be found on the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC. TGS 2025 runs September 25-28, 2025.

Mai Shiranui EX Bishoujo Figure Compared to Original

At TGS 2025, Kotobukiya shared new looks at the King of Fighters 98 Mai Shiranui EX Bishoujo figure that offers an updated take on a statue that first debuted in 2022. It is expected to release in May 2026 in Japan and June 2026 worldwide. She'll cost 16,500円/$129.99. The original is still available worldwide at various stores, but often costs over $140.

While the pose of the King of Fighters 98 statue remains the same, many elements are changed for the Mai Shiranui EX Bishoujo figure. It is still based on the same Shunya Yamashita art. It is still a 1/7 figure that is just over eight inches tall (210mm). The difference this time is the paint job for the item and some new designs for its base. She is still designed to look like she's standing in the JAPAN STREET stage, but this time the manhole is more detailed. The skin tones are also designed to look more realistic.

Here are the three images Kotobukiya shared that compare both the new and old figures and show the changes.

And here are some general images showing the figure from two different angles.

Extended Fatal Frame 2 Remake Trailer Appears at TGS 2025

We first learned about the Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct, and now a new, extended TGS 2025 trailer with more insights into changes and updates appeared. During it, Director Makoto Shibata acts as a narrator explaining the decisions made during development.

The video begins with Shibata talking about some of the more obvious changes. These are the improved audio and visual elements compared to the original game. He noted special processing is used to ensure proper details are showcased on character's clothing, and sound is layered to help with otherworldly effects. There is 7.1.4 audio support in this entry.

As for gameplay, Shibata went into how the Camera Obscura works in the remake. He noted the core elements remain the same. However, he said there will be new focus and zoom filters to help with perspective and dealing damage to ghosts. There will also be more places to explore and find spirits.

Finally, Shibata referenced a new action that can be used involving the twin sisters Mio and Mayu. At certain points, you can choose to hold hands with her while exploring. He noted this was something the team wanted to do in the original, but couldn't, and brought it up as an option with the remake.

Ninja Gaiden 4 Difficulty Options Include Easy Hero and Unlockable Master Ninja

Team Ninja, PlatinumGames, and Koei Tecmo confirmed four difficulty options for Ninja Gaiden 4. Hero is the easiest and is available alongside Normal and Hard when the game begins. Master Ninja is the hardest and needs to be unlocked by completing Story Mode. It also explained unique features for both Hero and Master Ninja.

Team Ninja and PlatinumGames noted that Hero is designed for Ninja Gaiden 4 newcomers and is the difficulty option that includes the most accessibility options. It is the only one with Auto Assist, Auto Block, and Auto Evade that automatically engage in those actions and shows cues to teach a person when they should act. It is also possible to turn those features off or on at any time at that level. Other accessibility options that can be enabled are Auto Heal and Auto Movement for platforming challenges.

As for Master Ninja, details about that Ninja Gaiden 4 difficulty level seemed focused on enemies. The standard and Enhanced D.D.O. soldiers appear right away and have more intelligent AI. There will also be greater numbers of enemies at checkpoints. Also, ahead of unlocking it, people can test out what it is like in their first Story Mode run by finding hidden Purgatory trials to see what it will feel like.

Here's the TGS 2025 "Ninja Gaiden 4 Difficulty Design" trailer.

A close up shot of a knife pressed underneath Hinako's left eye

A tale about the pressure of expectations, Silent Hill f follows a complicated story that requires a minimum of two full playthroughs if you wish to understand what you've just played through. Its visual novel formula, offering new lore with every unlocked branch, takes us on a journey of our own in understanding Hinako Shimizu's psyche and the events that unfolded in 1960s Ebisugaoka.

The Fog World is no longer limited to the once peaceful town of Silent Hill. In fact, f hints this psychological dreamscape didn't start there. Alessa's time is yet to come. So, here's our rundown of Silent Hill f, including our interpretations, analysis, and explanation of Ryukishi07's complex narrative.

Warning for spoilers throughout.

Silent Hill f plot and themes, summarized

Shu knelt down, holding an unconscious Hinako in his lap
Screenshot by Destructoid

For Hinako Shimizu, the Fog World represents her fears surrounding womanhood, the gender role she's meant to play, and what is expected of her. Conflicted by the views of others that can easily sway a young mind, the stigmatization of a girl being friends with boys makes Hinako a pariah in her community. Feeling trapped and uncertain of her future, unaware of how she should act around her family, friends, and peers, Hinako travels through Fog World with her needs and desires in constant battle against the person her culture wants her to be.

Two parts of Hinako exist at once, a direct contradiction of one another. But with marriage on the table, what Hinako Shimizu will she choose to be? The Fog World represents the confused, uncertain Hinako, who is simply trying to figure out her place in the world. Like a ghost wandering Ebisugaoka, she struggles to fit into the mold others keep trying to push her into. The Otherworld's Hinako represents how a developing mind is easily manipulated, more malleable to bend and break. Our time spent chasing after Fox Mask is Hinako preparing for marriage, travelling down the long, winding path to the altar.

Hinako doesn't want to be like her sister, Junko or her mother—to follow in their footsteps and become a devoted wife, with orders barked at her every waking moment.

The symbolism of Silent Hill f

Hinako on the floor, crawling backwards as she looks forwards, beyond a torii gate
Screenshot by Destructoid

We've interpreted the story of Silent Hill as following Hinako through her adolescence and into womanhood, from her time in school to the suddenness of growing up, forced upon her by her family. The Fields seemingly represent her childhood, the School her adolescence, and her homelife displaying Hinako's abuse and the wedge placed between herself and Shu.

We know Hinako isn't a teen in the events of f, as the post-credits scene for the default ending describes her in her twenties, meaning the Fog World acts like a memory lane of our protagonist's life, showing her regret and inability to accept, move on, and decide whether marriage is truly what she wants.

The commonly used imagery of birds in Japanese media (e.g., in music videos and Anime endings) is present in f too, where Hinako's metaphorical wings are confined throughout the game, her self-image being forced into a shape that's not hers: the fox. Her decision determines whether she'll fly free or have her wings clipped. Will Hinako live a life of her own, or for the benefit of others?

Silent Hill f: Full story, explained

The two selves of Hinako standing up against a wall
Screenshot by Destructoid

It seems Hinako became linked to the Otherworld through taking the red and white capsules (Kakura-makakura), courtesy of Shu. Originally prescribed with the intention of getting rid of her tension headaches, those very pills would have a more nefarious side effect. Shu purposely gave Hinako the pills so she'd be able to "speak with her inner self," allowing her to self-reflect and arrive to a conclusion on whether she really wants the arranged marriage.

See, Shu and Hinako have been friends since they were children, but with the inevitability of puberty hitting them both like a freight train, their feelings grew more complicated. Plus, Japanese culture stigmatized male and female friendships, where Hinako was shunned for acting more like a boy than a girl. This made her an outcast, while her friend Rinko grew hot with rage over Shu's affection towards Hinako. The idea that Hinako had to be in love with Shu weighed down on her, and the pressure to act differently caused conflict.

The bodies of Sakuko, Shu, and Rinko strung up, only their legs visible as the back of Hinako leant forward in mourning
Screenshot by Destructoid

The friend group made up of Hinako, Shu, Rinko, and Sakuko drifted apart through tension, as every member had unspoken feelings that festered into anxiety, paranoia, jealousy, and hatred. Hinako looked up to her older sister, but felt abandoned and betrayed when Junko got married. These feelings would reappear in Hinako's friends, specifically with Sakuko, who felt like she'd been left in the dark.

The pills allowed Hinako to separate herself into two, where her outer and inner selves (the Fog and the Otherworld) took physical form. Dreams blur into reality, where her uneasiness about the wedding and her confused feelings for Shu manifested in the form of the crimson spring. Hinako selves believed one must kill the other to be free.

The Shimizu family

Hinako's parents sitting at a dining table, their faces cut off-screen
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Shimizu family was believed to be cursed. It appears that Junko and Hinako both had arranged marriages, likely to help pay off their father's debts. Ignoring their wishes, he'd violently lash out if they disagreed or shared their true feelings. The mother, a devoted and obedient housewife, wasn't the pillar Hinako needed. In a way, the Shimizu daughters were a sacrificial lamb for their father's gain—a twisted birthright like Homecoming.

The Otherworld forces Hinako to change in every way. She has to part ways with who she was to ascend, metaphorically (but literally in the Otherworld) killing her family and friends to leave her past self behind.

Who is Fox Mask?

Fox Mask and Hinako in a candlelit corridor
Screenshot by Destructoid

Kotoyuki Tsuneki, Hinako's suitor and husband-to-be, was supposed to be the heir of Tsuneki, whose strict mother married into the family. At age nine, Kotoyuki fell into a coma after being attacked by a fox. Kotoyuki became possessed by the fox spirit and woke from the Otherworld as a new person. In the case of f, the kitsune is shown as a celestial being that can possess mortals. This linked Kotoyuki to the spirit, who became hellbent on making Hinako his wife. In the real world, however, it's likely Kotoyuki was manipulated from a young age to believe he was in love with Hinako, without ever being granted the ability to think for himself.

Kotoyuki is kind, but his hidden identity as the Fox Mask makes Hinako question whether she's being tricked and falling into a false sense of comfort. That's where the doll comes in. But both Hinako and Kotoyuki are victims of their family's expectations.

Who is the doll?

Junko's owl face slightly blurred, camera focused on the back of Hinako with doll riding on her shoulder
Screenshot by Destructoid

The doll is Hinako's doubt and fear—the brewing worry that hangs over her head about her feelings for Shu and Kotoyuki. Hinako's fears over Kotoyuki had manifested into doubt over the arranged marriage. She's scared that the men in her life, who were once kind and affectionate, would turn violent like her abusive father. The doll is this thought in the back of Hinako's mind that's telling her it won't be okay, that she's a failure, a disappointment to her family. It's holding her back, a warning that something bad will happen, for a future that may never come.

Silent Hill f endings, explained (Default, Good, Bad, and True)

Aside from the UFO ending, Silent Hill f explains (rather cryptically) what happens at Hinako and Kotoyuki's wedding. Not only is Hinako trying to figure out whether this is what she truly wants, but Shu crashes the wedding, likely hoping Hinako would leave with him. The path Hinako takes into the Otherworld is her journey through womanhood, her mind and body transforming into what her partner wants her to be. Her autonomy is slowly stripped away unless she can come to terms with who she truly is, without the pressures of conformity.

Coming Home to Roost

The crimson spring spreading on Hinako's body
Screenshot by Destructoid

The default ending is a terrifying conclusion for Hinako, Shu, and Kotoyuki. The pills Shu gave her for the tension headaches, caused by her father's abuse, only escalated Hinako's spiralling psyche. Her inability to self-reflect means she became something she doesn't recognize, meaning her selves weren't able to communicate with each other.

After giving parts of herself, Hinako is consumed by the crimson spring, resulting in a mental breakdown where Shu and Kotoyuki are murdered at the altar. Wielding a knife—likely the same one her father used when he'd get angry—Hinako fled the scene in her wedding dress—leaving the cause of her psychotic break—those cursed pills behind.

The Fox Wets Its Tail

Shu looking at the nine-tailed fox
Screenshot by Destructoid

Simply put, this ending shows Hinako getting cold feet at her wedding, fleeing from the marriage with Shu by her side. Kotoyuki's form of the nine-tailed fox appears, the deity that's taken over since childhood. Fox Mask's intentions were for Hinako to be spirited away, just like how Kotoyuki was. Hinako overcomes the fox, who then lets her leave, knowing he's disappointed the Tsuneki family.

Shu recognises Kotoyuki in the beast, remembering the time they'd spent playing Space Wars together, seeing the human in him. Hinako and Shu run into the fog, still able to laugh after the dark events they'd just witnessed. While they're still in Fog World, they have each other. But is Hinako just running away instead of facing herself?

Fox's Wedding

Shu right before he transforms into the Tsukumogami in Fox's Wedding boss fight
Screenshot by Destructoid

The most interesting ending is the Fox's Wedding, which paints the outer, human form of Hinako as the antagonist. The Agura no Hotei-sama vial is used, eradicating outer Hinako from existence, ridding her of this "evil" as she became possessed with the Water Dragon's spirit. This means inner Hinako's choice and sense of self is removed, making her the perfect doted wife to Kotoyuki. This ending reveals Shu's true intentions behind the medicine he gave Hinako, as he was unable to accept that she was growing up and moving on without him. Through missed opportunity and their inability to talk about the things that mattered, the partners inevitably drifted apart.

Shu's inner self is revealed, but fox Hinako rescues him at his lowest moment, thus killing his doubts and setting him free. Of course, the same cannot be said for Hinako. Shu accepts the marriage, even though he, alongside Tsuneki, views Hinako as "theirs." This ending appears good on the surface (ignoring Hinako being viewed as property). However, you can see that Hinako's monstrous form is final, revealing she's lost who she once was.

The post-credits scene has the most disturbing moment in the entire game, showing Hinako completely stripped of her autonomy. Her torn face at the bottom of the stairs, wailing in fear over the mistakes she's made and terrified of becoming the very thing she despised, is stepped on, thus killing the last part of her identity. She's encaged forever.

Silence in Ebisugaoka

The three face Tsukumogami in Silent Hill f

In the true ending, Hinako comes to terms with her true feelings about not wanting to get married yet. While she feels like she's failed the family—this being the reason she entertained the idea to begin with and risked losing herself in the process—Hinako accepted that she couldn't be anything but herself. Kotoyuki saves both Hinakos from self-destruction, realizing he, too, hasn't been living a life.

Both versions of Hinako defeat their demons, the very deities that were possessing them. The point of this ending is that Hinako finds inner peace, with all the noise stopped. An obvious metaphor for the dark thoughts inside, Hinako breaks free, and that's something Kotoyuki wants for himself.

Hinako awakes from the dream anew, both versions of herself coexisting within, granting her the peace to figure out what she really wants. A letter from Kotoyuki shows he is more at peace with himself, attempting to live his life to the fullest, and taking the time to process his previously manufactured feelings for Hinako. Hinako's inner and outer selves have values that align, and they are now able to see eye-to-eye when they were previously at each other's throats.

A rendered image of a possible Nintendo Swicth 2 console on a red and teal background.

Speaking in a recent interview, FF7 Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi defended the concept of Game-Key Cards, digital substitutions for physical cartridges on the Switch 2, expressing his desire to see fans accept this new tech since there are good reasons for it. And, yeah, I'm not convinced.

As per IGN, Hamaguchi spoke in favor of Game-Key Cards, a type of digital substitution for physical cards, which are slotted into the Switch 2 but carry no data, instead only containing the code for any given game, which is then downloaded from Nintendo's servers. It is only one of many formats replacing what was formerly physical, preserving only the aesthetic aspect of the card itself, but not its internal hardware.

Hamaguchi believes there is a perfectly valid reason for switching to Game-Key Cards, which isn't baseless. "I really get where people are coming from in terms of their negativity towards it," Hamaguchi said, but added that physical cards are much slower and have limited storage, severely impacting how much content developers can fit onto them and how they perform.

With digital cards, these issues are nonexistent, as Switch 2's hardware is faster and can handle bigger games without being limited by game cards.

It is the reason why Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will launch on the Switch 2 only as a Game-Key Card, and not a physical one.

He expressed the desire to see Nintendo fans embrace this novel concept, and "maybe come to accept them as part of the culture of gaming on Switch," since it allows developers a way to circumvent hardware limitations and allows them to "do things that maybe we wouldn't otherwise."

These are certainly compelling arguments, and would be applicable if we didn't have physical discs and games already that are massive and work fantastically with modern readers. Various PlayStation 5 games, big and small, can be purchased and played on disc, with the console's reader handling the loading times quite well.

It is Nintendo's fault for not innovating or trying to improve the physical card concept, akin to how Sony has expanded and utilized the Blu-Ray technology for its consoles since the PS3. Hell, Sony sacrificed a lot with that generation by pushing for Blu-Ray, and look where they are now. Sometimes bold, costly decisions end up working out to the joy of everyone, and especially the players.

To this day, 20 years later, you can still purchase physical copies of PS3 games and play them as they were on launch. Untouched, uncorrupted, for better or worse. Those games are preserved for all time and cannot be rug-pulled at the whim of a publisher one day when Nintendo shuts down its Switch 2 servers and decides it does not want to shill out the bandwidth for you to download your digital card's "content."

a look at the nintendo switch 2
The sole saving grace of Game-Key Cards is that they aren't bound to single accounts and can be resold. But ultimately, their clock is slowly ticking. Image by Destructoid via Nintendo

I understand digitalization has provided us with options we could only have dreamed of a couple of decades ago, but it is by no means a substitute for physical media, whose preservation is never brought into question. Nintendo does allow re-selling and second-hand copies of Game-Key Cards, which is an immensely good decision on their part, but it still imprisons those copies within the online-only Nintendo ecosystem that you can never escape.

With a physical copy, the entirety of the game written to it, you can fire up your base PS3 that's never been updated and load in a game that's also never seen an online connection, and it'd still work. The same likely won't be able to be said about these digitalized alternatives, that are bound to one day fizzle out into the virtual void where they already dwell.

Instead of innovation, companies choose convenience, and it's an unfortunate reality we live in, but not one we're so eager to accept. So no, despite the noble intentions, I don't want to embrace Game-Key Cards.

Disney Dreamlight Valley's Return to Beast's Castle update introduces two new characters you can invite to your village, an expanded Beauty and the Beast Realm questline, and a Halloween-themed Star Path event. Let's check out each feature in more detail.

Two new Beauty and the Beast characters

Two new characters are arriving alongside the Return to Beast's Castle update. We'll officially be introduced to Cogsworth and Lumiere, who'll help us uncover a mystery within the realm's castle before returning to our village as permanent residents.

The Beauty and the Beast Realm expands

The Beauty and the Beast Realm's castle has taken on a spooky turn, with its interior riddled with cobwebs and dimmer lighting. After completing the realm's initial questline and befriending Belle and The Beast, we'll be able to return during this update and work alongside Cogsworth and Lumiere to figure out what's happened. As a bonus, Belle and The Beast are also having their storylines expanded, letting you learn more about them even after completing all of their friendship quests.

Beast's castle isn't the only spooky part of the Return to Beast's Castle update. You'll also obtain special royal furniture and ballroom outfits for your character.

So far, two new items are confirmed to arrive in Disney Dreamlight Valley's Premium Shop during the Return to Beast's Castle update. The first is a new Witchy Kitty animal companion that appears as a cute black cat wearing a witch's hat. We're also getting a Halloween Dream Castle skin that transforms the village's main castle into one full of purple and white lights, pumpkins, and magical floating candles.

Cornerstones is set to be the first promo in FC 26 Ultimate Team, and if the leaks are to be believed, it could feature some amazing cards.

FC 26 Cornerstones release date

Cornerstones will be going live on Friday, Sept. 26. It also marks the full launch, as owners of Standard Edition will be joining the game on the same day. The new promo will go live at 6pm UK time (12pm CT), when the cards will be added to packs. You'll then have to hope for good luck as you open the packs.

Some objective cards could be released as part of objectives and SBCs, so look out for those. Unlike the promo cards in packs, you'll have to submit specific squads/complete tasks to get SBC and rewards from objectives.

A monkey with sunglasses in Megabonk.

Megabonk, much like other roguelites and Survivors-like games, is defined by its broad build variety, where a plethora of weapons can be used to utterly decimate waves upon waves of enemies who desperately wish to see you dead.

However, what if we removed weapons altogether and embraced the world as humans, loving, caring, kind-hearted beings that wish no harm upon anyone? Well, then we'd get the Pacifist Challenge from Megabonk, where no kind of weapon can be used to defeat the game's many bosses.

So, here's how you can clear the Pacifist Challenge in Megabonk and attain nirvana and the release from conditioned existence.

How to finish the Pacifist Challenge in Megabonk

To finish this challenge, you're going to first need to enable it in the challenges tab of your preferred level. Once you've done so, you'll start the match without any weapons and will have to stay unarmed for the entirety of the run. The run must be done in full, with you having to beat all the stage bosses, which can very well lead you into the Final Swarm while you're battling the Final Boss.

Once you've beaten all bosses without any weapons whatsoever (you can still do damage via items and Tomes), then you'll have cleared the challenge. It's a tough one, and probably one of the most difficult in the entire game, since most damage output in Megabonk comes from weapons that then synergize with the rest of your build.

Players running from enemies in Megabonk
Sir Oofie is the perfect option for this challenge. Screenshot by Destructoid

Best build to clear Pacifist Challenge in Megabonk

Given that you have literally no means of fighting back outside of items and Tomes, you absolutely have to select a character that has a lot of HP and defense by default, leveling up as they go. Therefore, this is the build I've crafted:

  • Character: Sir Oofie or Megachad - the former is available right off the bat, sporting a significant passive that grows stronger each level, granting you one percent extra Armor per level. It'll boost your defenses and ensure enemies don't hurt as much as they otherwise would. On the other hand, Megachad is a defensive beast, sporting a huge HP pool and lots of defenses, which makes him an amazing choice, albeit one that has to be unlocked with additional play.
  • Weapons: None, they are strictly verboten.
  • Items: You will want items that prioritize XP gain, defense, health buffs and restoration, and passive damage. Therefore, I recommend the likes of Time Bracelet for XP, Spiky Shield for thorns damage (scales with Armor, perfect for a Sir Oofie run), Mirror for damage reflection, Ghost as a weapon replacement (does tons of damage to multiple enemies each time you interact with a stage item like pots), Za Warudo for the ultimate clutch saves if you happen to be getting hit a lot.
  • Tomes: Thorns Tome and Armor Tome are fantastic, especially if you're running Spiky Shield alongside them, since the synergy is off the charts. Just make sure you have a lot of HP and HP regen to be able to survive constantly crashing into enemies. Sir Oofie shouldn't have too many issues if your items click.

Overall, it is thorns you should go for almost always, combining it with various defensive Tomes and items that'll boost your survivability while allowing you to clash with enemies and deal damage to them. This is an excruciating challenge, so don't lose your mind if you fail more than once. Things must fall into place almost perfectly for it to be successful, so don't be shy about restarting if you notice that stuff isn't going your way.

The Mesa biome in PEAK

PEAK has finally added the chance for players to change their controls from default, and you can use a familiar layout.

The community has long requested the ability to rebind controls, but the feature was not introduced until the Dillydally update. Let's look at the default controls and how to change them inside the game.

All PEAK key bindings

Here are the default controls applicable using a keyboard and mouse.

  • Aim: Mouse
  • Climb/Use Item: Left Mouse Button
  • Helping Hand/Alt use Item: Right Mouse Button
  • Interact: E
  • Drop/Throw (Hold): Q
  • Jump: Space
  • Crouch: Ctrl
  • Sprint/Leap (While Climbing): Shift
  • Move Forward: W
  • Move Backward: S
  • Move Left: A
  • Move Right: D
  • Item Slot 1: 1
  • Item Slot 2: 2
  • Item Slot 3: 3
  • Backpack Slot: 4
  • Ping Location: Middle Mouse Button
  • Emote: R
  • Push to Talk: V
  • Scroll: Mouse Wheel
  • Scroll Forward: T
  • Scroll Backware: G

How to change controls in PEAK

It's pretty easy to change the controls in PEAK. The option, however, isn't available from the main settings. You can only change the keys before onboarding the flight from the Airport. Press the ESC button to open the options.

PEAK controls rebind options
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Select Rebind Controls.
  • This will open the controls.
  • Click on a control that you want to change.
  • Press the new input.
  • Save your change.

That's all you have to do to change the controls to an alternate set, according to your preference. The ability to change controls is one of the several new additions of the Dillydally update. Before jumping onto the island, you can have fun with your buddies in the Airport.

There's a photobooth to click beautiful pictures, and a basketball court to challenge your buddies. A gigantic chessboard has also been placed by the conveyor belt to unleash your inner Garry Kasparov if that interests you.

A new badge is also available that rewards you with two fresh cosmetics.

Mega Dragonite

If causing chaos and nearly destroying a hobby for Pokémon card game fans wasn't enough for scalpers, they are now targeting video games as well.

A shiny Miraidon and Koraidon giveaway for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is set to start on Sept. 26 in select stores in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand via physical serial codes. Some fans are already reporting that store owners and employees are giving these codes away early and in large amounts to people who visit their stores, clearing stocks of 50 codes before the event even started.

Special Pokémon code distributions are usually limited to only one or two per store visitor so that more players can participate in the event.

But instead, players are reporting that local GameStop stores are already giving the shiny Miraidon and Koraidon codes away to people who have asked for them early. In one case, a fan reports their local GameStop has already run out of codes on Thursday, one day before the actual distribution was supposed to start.

http://reddit.com/r/PokemonScarletViolet/comments/1npklcl/this_shiny_moraidonkoraidon_event_has_me_irritated/

The issue is not only that real fans waiting for the event start date have fewer chances of getting these Pokémon, which are exclusive to the event and unobtainable in other ways.. The issue is that whoever is getting these codes in bulk is actually trying to profit from them.

These Pokémon codes, which are free at stores, are already listed on eBay from $29 to $42 a unit. Each code unlocks either shiny Koraidoin or Miraidon, depending on your game version. If you want both legendaries and can't get your hands on two free codes, you might have to pay up to $84 in the secondary market.

This scalping phenomenon has been happening in the Pokémon TCG scene for a couple of years. Since the COVID pandemic ended, it became a common problem for TCG fans, to the point where giveaways of special promotional cards, like the Van Gogh Pikachu, had to be halted shortly before they started.

The Pokémon Company is also dealing with online scalping, where scalpers use bots to buy TCG products in bulk to clear stocks and resell the products at double the price later. Retailers run out of Pokémon TCG products shortly after they're released, turning scalpers into the only suppliers with products often at 200% the MSRP. At the time of writing, the only Pokémon TCG product that includes cards that are not sold out at the company's official store, Pokémon Center, is the Battle Academy set because it has cards with low aftermarket value.

The card collecting that used to be a kid-friendly hobby has now become a kind of investment, as seen in the r/PokeInvesting subreddit, where cards are treated like products in the stock market. Casual fans are wishing that new Pokémon collabs don't feature promotional cards for fear of scalpers ruining them.

While the practice of selling limited Pokémon video game codes has been around for a while, it becomes a problem when people get these codes in bulk and limit access to them by legit fans. If people are hoarding these codes just to sell them later, they are ruining the experience that the Pokémon Company has set up for real players.

It's unclear at this point how many shiny Miraidon and Koraidon codes will be given away and how big the scalping problem with these codes is. Destructoid has reached out to the Pokémon Company to learn more about the subject.

Chaos Armor set in Diablo 4

Chaos Armor is one of the many new toys added in Diablo 4 Season 10, and the opening days have opened up new ways to design your build.

Unlike the Uniques, these armor pieces allow you to surpass the normal slot restrictions. We can finally try them out with the start of Season of Infernal Chaos. If you're still confused about how they work, this guide will break down how these gears work and how to use them to their full potential.

Diablo 4 Chaos Armor explained

Chaos Armors aren't entirely standalone pieces of gear found in the game. So far, any Unique you get was tied to a fixed slot. Chaos Armor variants allow you to have the same Unique usable for another slot, while improving its stats. For example, I get a Unique that fits into my Helm slot. You can now get the same Unique, which will fit into a different slot. It's not just a different armor slot; Chaos Armor will have the same item power, while offering better stats.

  • Chaos Armor is always at maximum item power.
  • 20% stronger than the base Unique power.
  • Will have one or more Greater Affixes.

These gears are extremely powerful and offer the freedom to go past the limitations of your existing build. They're account-specific, so you can't trade them with other players. When using a Unique's alternate version, you can't use its original form simultaneously.

How to get Chaos Armor in Diablo 4

Bartuc in Diablo 4
Screenshot via Activision

There are various ways to obtain these gear pieces in Season 10.

  • Chaos Rifts and Mythic Chaos Rifts are excellent sources for finding Chaos Armor. The Mythic variants are much harder than the normal Chaos Rifts, but offer better rewards.
  • The new Bartuc boss fight also offers a chance to find Chaos Armor (based on your luck).
  • There's a slight chance to get Chaos Armor from Infernal Hordes.

BO7 Multiplayer Mason gameplay

Hardcore Call of Duty fans are passionate, as are the game's developers, and when the two work in tandem, greatness is within reach.

Treyarch design director Matt Scronce has been front and center on Black Ops 7's deployment thus far as a face of the devs, and he took it a step further today by confirming some changes that fans have been asking for since BO7's multiplayer deep dive info was revealed earlier this week.

BO7 multiplayer battle
Image via Activision

"We pulled the trigger on a few Perk changes for the upcoming Black Ops 7 beta based off of feedback this week," Scronce said on Twitter/X. "We will of course gather data and feedback throughout the beta and make additional adjustments for launch. Thanks!"

When the Perks for BO7 multiplayer were revealed this past Monday, many spoke out about how there weren't many difficult choices to be made, specifically with Perk One having too many good options while two and three didn't have much to speak of.

Scronce today announced that Dexterity will move from Perk One to Perk Three, Scavenger will move from Perk Two to Perk One, and Looper will go from Perk Three to Perk Two. And the reaction on social media has been a positive one, especially in relation to how quickly the change has been made.

This is what betas are for, so I wouldn't expect such changes to happen so quickly once the game is in live-service mode, but Scronce is setting a tough precedent for this sort of thing moving forward when players have complaints. I hope Treyarch can live up to it.

The BO7 beta begins next week in early access on Oct. 2 before going into open beta on Oct. 5, and the full game drops on Nov. 14.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Deluxe Pack EX promo image

Deluxe Pack EX will be a Pokémon TCG Pocket expansion unlike anything we have seen, and the release date has been announced.

Every expansion in the game's history has revolved around new cards. This includes basic, Rare, and EX items players have collected from packets. Deluxe Pack EX will be the first expansion to be released for a limited time only.

This guide will help you stay informed about its release and save your resources before the new packets go live.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Deluxe Pack EX release countdown

The nature of the Deluxe Pack EX expansion might be different from what we have enjoyed so far in Pokémon TCG Pocket. However, the release schedule is expected to be the same, and the following countdown marks when the packets become available in the store.

[hurrytimer id="1122284"]

The countdown is based on the following timings.

  • 11pm PT (Sept. 29)
  • 1am CT
  • 2am ET
  • 6am UTC
  • 7pm AEST

Deluxe Pack EX will be available on Sept. 30, marking the end of the A4 series. Let's now find what you can expect from the upcoming expansion.

What to expect from Pokémon TCG Pocket Deluxe Pack EX

https://twitter.com/PokemonTCGP/status/1971198647476842863

Deluxe Pack EX will be a trip down memory lane for all fans. It will feature reprints and alternate illustrations of cards already available inside the game. This will be great news for beginners and veterans alike. While the former can get staples for their decks, veterans can increase their collection with new-look cards.

Unlike any other expansions released previously in TCG Pocket, the Deluxe Pack EX will be removed from the game after Oct. 30. You have exactly one month from launch to open the packs. While a few upcoming cards have been teased online, we will have a complete database once the expansion goes live on Sept. 30.

Nicolas Pepe as one of the best players to use in the FC 26 One Shot evolution

The One Shot evolution is a mini upgrade released in FC 26. It allows you to improve up to two of your attackers for free.

The offered upgrades aren't very significant, but it's the start of a new cycle. Having two lower-rated items with better in-game stats will be helpful for the next few weeks. This evolution also targets your attackers if you want to opt for meta choices.

This guide will help you narrow down the best choices for the evolution.

FC 26 One Shot evolution requirements

Here are the requirements of the One Shot evolution in FC 26.

  • Overall: Max 82
  • Rarity Must Not be: World Tour Silver Stars
  • Position Must Not be: GK

FC 26 One Shot evolution upgrades

The evolution has only one level of upgrades, and there are certain conditions to fulfil.

Level 1 upgrades

  • Shooting: +1 (capped to 3)

Level 1 upgrade requirements

  • Play 2 matches in Squad Battles on min. Semi-Pro difficulty (or Rush/Rivals/Champions/Live Events) using your active EVO Player in game.

Best players to use in One Shot evolution

Here are some of my best recommendations for inclusion in the evolution.

  • Nicolas Pepe Showdown
  • Yildiz TOTW
  • Yoane Wissa
  • Kai Havertz
  • Gabriel Martinelli
  • Amoura
  • Federico Chiesa

While the upgrades are minor, you can include these cards in future evolutions to create a chain and upgrade their stats further. You can also use this evolution twice on the same card, as long as they meet the original requirements. That way, your evo candidate will receive a +2 upgrade to their shooting.

RE9 Requiem RPD

The marketing around Resident Evil Requiem has not been shy about the fact that the game will be making a return to the ruins of Raccoon City, the location of the first three games in the 30-year-old franchise.

Next year is Resident Evil's 30th anniversary, and bringing everything full circle to the beginning in RE9 makes sense. But according to one of the game's producers in a new interview with VGC, players will still be able to have fun with the game even if it's their first in the series."

Resident Evil Requiem Raccoon City RE9
Image via Capcom

"We think it's important to balance the extra fun that you get from nostalgic Easter Eggs and hints and lore connections if you're a series fan, versus not making a game alienating to players who aren't caught up," RE9 producer Masato Kumazawa said at Tokyo Game Show today. "I don't want people to feel they have to do their homework to fully appreciate this game."

Personally? If I'm playing the ninth numbered game in a franchise with an overarching storyline, I would kind of expect to be alienated and feel lost. Kumazawa continued, saying he thinks that even "if you don't know anything about it, you're just going to play this as a horror game set in a ruined city, and you'll be able to understand and enjoy it 100%."

I know that this is language from a developer selling a product who doesn't want to alienate prospective buyers who may not have played all of the other games in the franchise, but reading this gave me some pause for concern.

"If you're a fan and you see all the connections and the lore links and the background hints and stuff, I think you'll enjoy it 150%, and it'll give you that extra level of detail, but we don't want to make it so that you have to know about the incident and understand the relationship between that timeline in order to understand the game," he said.

This is the ending of a 30-year saga. Shouldn't it be all about the 30 years that came before it? I feel like it should be expected that players have some idea what the hell is going on if they're going to be exploring the ruins of a city that is the foundation for everything in the franchise that came after it. I would like there to be more than "that extra level of detail," but I suppose I'm just being picky.

I'm expecting to see some more new footage of RE9 at a special showcase at TGS within the next week, at which point we should see the long-rumored return of Leon S. Kennedy. You know, the main character from RE2, RE4, and RE6? These are games that players should probably play before RE9 when it drops in February 2026.

Look, I'm sure RE9 will turn out just fine. I've enjoyed basically everything in the series since I first played it as a child in the 90s, and it's one of my favorite franchises ever. I just hope we aren't missing out on any potential awesomeness or nostalgia just to sate potential new fans.

Dicehead in Megabonk trying to escape an enemy

Dicehead is one of the strongest characters in Megabonk, but you can make him "broken" with the right build.

Dicehead certainly takes a fair amount of time to unlock. You must complete 100 quests and obtain Dice, his signature weapon. This guide will help you maximize his passive ability and build a top-tier build.

Best Dicehead weapons in Megabonk

With Dicehead, it's best to go with his signature weapon. Dice is the best weapon in the entire game for raising crit chance. The buffs are permanent, and they can stack infinitely so the scaling starts feeling like a cheat as you keep scaling up the Crit Chance.

After a certain point, every attack from Dicehead is guaranteed to be a crit attack. I've tested a few other weapons, which I have mentioned below. You can try them out, but Dice, by far, is your best choice.

  • Revolver: This weapon works well with any crit-focused build. I do not like its aim, but it could work well for you.
  • Aura: Dicehead's passive is one of the strongest in the game, removing the requirement of using Shrinnes. You'll be consistently farming XP and scaling up his modifiers with Aura.
  • Lightning Staff: If you want a bit of AoE effects with your attacks, you can go for Lightning Staff.

If you want to rank high on the leaderboard, go with Dice for the best results.

Best Dicehead tomes in Megabonk

We will go for tomes that improve the crit, damage, or empower Dicehead's passive.

  • Damage tome: On the one hand, Dice will help you improve the crit of Dicehead. Increasing the damage will double the benefits, as you'll hit guaranteed crits simultaneously.
  • Crit Damage tome: If Dice's crit boosts aren't enough, you can improve the damage caused by all crit hits. At one point, this will translate into guaranteed additional damage (when every attack becomes a fixed crit strike).

XP tome and Luck tome are two other favorites. One allows you to level up Dicehead quicker, while the other will help you find better tomes and items on your run.

The strategy with Dicehead is simple. You'll want to be on the move in the early game since you'll be at your weakest. Survivability will be key as you keep stacking the auto-buffs. Dicehead's passive provides a random buff whenever he levels up.

These buffs aren't as strong as those from Shrines, but you can keep stacking them infinitely (unlike Shrines). Every buff Dicehead gains this way is permanent in nature. These effects are random, but they all build up nicely. I haven't found such scaling for any other character in the game's current build.

Combined with Dice's crit buffs, the effects will turn Dicehead into a nuker by mid-game. Endgame is when Dicehead is at his strongest, as all hits with my recommended build will be guaranteed critical strikes. On top of that, you'll be dealing more damage, and a few other buffs will provide you with the necessary sustains required to recover your health.
