Digimon Con 2022 kicked off with a talk about video games based on the series. This involved a Q&A session in which Digimon series Chief Producer Kazumasa Habu went over questions submitted ahead of the event. One submitted asked if Bandai Namco planned to release a Digimon World remaster or remake. Habu called a remaster "highly feasible," but noted that with a remake adding new content could make it more like an entirely new game. Here is Habu's full statement regarding a possible remake or remaster of the original Digimon World.
Digimon World appeared on the PlayStation worldwide. It also showed up on PCs in Korea. Digimon Con 2022 kicked off with a Q&A session about the games, with Chief Producer Kazumasa Habu talking about a new Digimon Story. There wasn't a full reveal about the title. However, Habu did offer a few details about what people can expect. Namely, it will feature the 12 Olympians, or Olympos XII, as its "central characters." It will also take place in the Digital World. As the name suggests the 12 Olympians are Digimon inspired by Greek gods. They consist of Apollomon, Bacchusmon, Ceresmon, Dianamon, Junomon, Jupitermon, Marsmon, Merukimon, Minervamon, Neptunemon, Venusmon, and Volcanusmon. Some of these characters have appeared in Digimon Story entries before. For example, Dianamon and Merukimon both showed up in the two Cyber Sleuth games ahead of this new Digimon Story. Bandai Namco hasn't announced any platforms for this title yet. There's also no official reveal for it. The first time it came up was when Habu mentioned it back in 2018. At that time, he noted the team was using the PS4 as a base for it. A new Digimon Story game is in development. The last Digimon Story entry was Cyber Sleuth – Hacker's Memory, which appeared on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Vita, and PC. During the Digimon Con 2022 stream on February 26, 2022, Digimon Survive Producer Kazumasa Habu revealed more details about the Digimon Survive story. To be more precise, he talked about how the series' lore will tie into the themes and story of it. He also offered a warning about the game's subject matter. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth focused on Digimon appearing in the human world. However, according to Habu, there remained a discrepancy between the concept of the digital world and the nature of Digimon. To correct this, the Survive story will depict Digimon as ethereal life forms from another world. They are "fragments of souls that have been transformed into digital monsters" because modern technology can recognize their existence. Hiroyuki Kakudo, who worked on the original Digimon Adventure, is the person who told Habu this piece of lore. Because the target audience of Digimon Survive will be adults, Habu noted the story can have darker twists. For example, your friends in the game can actually die. Habu will also use the "Digimon are the other half of a human's soul" concept to explore darker themes. An example Habu gave during the stream is that hurting your Digimon is a form of self-harm. He advised that players who are sensitive about these topics will need to be careful when playing. Digimon Survive is in development. It will come out on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC. There is no official release date yet but it is expected to come out in 2022. People worldwide outside Japan can now access and read the Digimon Encyclopedia website, as Bandai Namco translated it into English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. It was already available in Japanese. This ended up being the first announcement at Digimon Con 2022. The Digimon Encyclopedia website is exactly what it sounds like. People who visit can find data on Digimon who appeared in different games and shows. There is a search function, to look for specific characters. You can also look by alphabetical order, check by level, set an attribute, or go by type. The site also has a featured character set as the "highlight" at the top of the page. For example, on February 25, 2022, Sistermon Ciel (Awake.) was the featured character. Going to a Digimon's page offers additional details. People can see their level, type, attribute, special moves, and other characters related to it. There is also a profile section going over the specific character's details and notable traits. The Digimon Encyclopedia English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese translations are one of multiple announcements that came up during the presentation. For example, Digimon Survive Producer Kazumasa Habu went over the reason for the game's delay and noted it will be a bit still before its release date will be announced. The Digimon Survive release date came up during Digimon Con 2022 Q&A. However, it will still be some time before we see it. Producer Kazumasa Habu noted it will "take a little longer," as they are "adjusting internally" and figuring out a date. Bandai Namco's last delay pushed the title into 2022. Habu apologized for the delays and wait during the session. He noted a change in its development team led to "rework on the game" and "uncertainty." Bandai Namco first revealed Digimon Survive back in 2018. It is a strategy game with visual novel elements. The goal will be to follow characters after a major incident as they suddenly encounter Digimon and are striving to survive. 113 total Digimon will appear. The actions players take will determine how the story will go. For example, it will be possible for characters to die. During the Digimon Con 2022 Q&A, Habu said the story will be 12 chapters long. There will be 3 routes to potentially follow. The Digimon Survive is in development and its release date is expected to fall in 2022. Evo took to Twitter announced that Super Smash Bros. will not be at the event this year. The tweet does not go into details as to why, outside of that Nintendo did not choose to work with them for 2022. However, in 2021 Nintendo announced it would work with Panda Global for licensed eSports tournaments. That circuit is expected to start in 2022. There's no explanation for why it won't appear in the announcement. Back in 2020, several companies pulled their titles due to a sexual misconduct scandal involving the Evo President. Super Smash Bros. did not appear in Evo 2021, marking 2019 the last year that it would appear at the event. Evo (Evolution Championship Series) is an esports competition that focuses on fighting games. Until 2001, it was a competition exclusively for Street Fighter II Turbo and Street Fighter Alpha 2, and its name was Battle by the Bay.
