The perfect drift is the thing lap times are made of, which is why Giorgi Abelashvili put the spotlight on these skids with his new title Drift King. The Ridge Racer and Initial D series have pulled off this art with panache - does this racer do the same?

Robots can be whatever we want them to be, but choosing exactly what that thing could be is tricky. Enter KigyoDev's Robot Daycare, a title that tells of three college students that created a robot AI from scratch. Does this visual novel tell a compelling tale, or is this robotic tale a little rusty?

I have never, since Destiny launched back in 2014, been able to categorically recommend it to anyone. Praise always came with caveats. The cool parts were always buried beneath an incomprehensible grind. With The Witch Queen I can finally say, without reservation, that Destiny 2 has a great shooter campaign that is…

Robert Pattinson still isn't over Final Fantasy 7's Aerith

It may be one of the most famous twists in one of the best JRPGs on PC, but some people still aren't over what happened to Aerith Gainsborough in Final Fantasy VII. That includes The Batman star Robert Pattinson, apparently, who says that Aerith was one of his first loves - he's still not over it, it seems.

The much-anticipated superhero movie The Batman is out this week, starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and both have been appearing in a lot of interviews to publicise the movie.

In a televised interview with French entertainment channel Clique X, Robert Pattinson talked about Final Fantasy VII and how he "thought he was in love" with Aerith. He tries to explain the "love triangle" between Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa to Kravitz - including how Aerith is sometimes Aeris "depending on what version of the game you have". He describes Aerith as "the kind girl who has superpowers, who can heal everyone and make the world a better place".

Rainbow Six Siege's Azami was a

Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege is still one of the best multiplayer games on PC and it's about to hit Year 7 Season 1 - now officially revealed as Demon Veil. It's also about to get a new operator with a game-changing gadget, but to get to this the team prototyped several operators with unique gadgets - including one with a "pile of green goo" called Flubber.

Earlier this month the Rainbow Six Siege team revealed Demon Veil and the new operator Azami, a Japanese defender with a meta-busting gadget called the Kiba Barrier - which can repair walls and other breaches. Azami's the first operator that can do this, although Ubisoft informed us of two other cancelled operators that led to Azami - nicknamed Patcher and Flubber.

We spoke with creative director Alex Karpazis and asked him about Azami's development journey, who told us the operator had "a long and storied past" - primarily "because the idea behind her gadget to repair destruction or patch holes is so integral to Siege".

Steam Deck review – a buggy but brilliant handheld gaming PC

27/02/2022 We've added further clarifications since the review was first published, including that the Steam Deck's desktop mode uses KDE Plasma.

We've come a long way from the days of 8-bit games and screens with no backlight, as the Steam Deck reinvents everything you know about handheld gaming. It's not the first of its kind, nor is it the most powerful portable gaming PC out there, but Valve's software-first approach and staggeringly low starting price puts it in a class of its own.

There's nothing quite like the Steam Deck on the market. It carries the same hybrid magic as the Nintendo Switch while marrying it with the versatility of an entry-level gaming PC. Backed by the overwhelming size of the Steam catalogue, no device has ever launched with such a wide array of games to choose from. Valve's even sifting through them all to ensure they're compatible with the device, and you shouldn't be afraid to dive into unverified titles - most I tried worked with the combination of trackpads and intuitive controller customisation.

But you shouldn't get sucked into the vortex of potential and promises. The Steam Deck is not yet a finished product, and it'll take more polish for it to join the ranks of historical hall of famers like the Game Boy.

     Digimon Survive requires

It's been a long time since anything was heard of Digimon Survive, the turn-based strategy game with adventure game elements set in the animated Digimon universe. In an update at Digimon Con 2022, producer Kazumasa Habu revealed that it has changed developers once again - and expects the Digimon Survive release "to take a little longer".

Digimon Survive is a visual novel adventure game with strategy game combat sections, set to the cartoon style of the Toei Animation TV series - which is involved with the game. It was announced way back in 2018, with the Western release trailer confirming a PC Steam version too. It received multiple delays after this, and would eventually change developers.

At a Q&A at Digimon Con 2022 (transcribed by Gematsu), Digimon games producer Kazumasa Habu apologised for Survive's delay but confirmed "we are now developing the game with a new development team". According to Bandai Namco's website, Digimon Survive is now being made by Japanese developer Hyde, who previously worked on the party game Disney Tsum Tsum Festival.

2021 was gaming accessibility's best year – can 2022 outdo it?

I was so thrilled I couldn't believe it. Before me was an email expressing interest in a pitch I'd sent, which would later be published as my first op-ed for this site: 'How RPGs like Cyberpunk and Dragon Age change perceptions of accessibility'.

The pitch took a year for me to develop and build the confidence to find it a home, and was the result of frustrations that had simmered over years as a disabled gamer with mobility impairments. Like many other disabled gamers, I was exhausted by the rehashed, simplistic 'controversy' around the necessity of accessibility features for disabled gamers versus the ableist assumption that we can 'git gud' with practice, or accept our exclusion. I wanted to introduce a new perspective, using RPG mechanics to illustrate how one's ability to overcome a set of barriers is a matter of relativity, and to ask the industry to move past tired notions of accessibility being a matter of every game having an 'easy' mode.

Only one month after my op-ed was published, a slew of major game releases made parts of my argument old news.
