Capcom and Square Enix announced earlier this year that Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy 14 would be collaborating with one another, and the first trailer for the former's collab received a proper look in today. It's coming as part of the action game's third title update, so there's more included than just Final Fantasy bits, but that does seem to be the main thing here. So what's included?

There is perhaps no better thing for a game to have than other, inconsequential things that have no real relation to the main thing for you to do that are entirely focused on mucking about. Peak is ostensibly about reaching the top of a mountain all for the sake of a sweet chance of escape, but really it is about doing silly things with, to, or around your friends. A new update has arrived in the game that is, to use the word ostensibly again because I couldn't think of another one, ostensibly about rebindable controls, but here too it's really about doing silly things with friends, things that don't even involve any climbing.

Helldivers 2 developers Arrowhead have once again addressed the range of performance issues that've come to afflict the shooter, teasing a mid-October update that they reckon should deliver a "noticeable improvement" and outlining that wider plans are in the works in terms of dealing with some larger problems.

Problems with Helldivers 2's stability and general bugginess of the bad kind rose to prominence again following last month's Into the Unjust update. Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani was quick to admit that the game's performance was "not good enough", citing "crippling" technical debt as being st the root of some of the more deep-seated issues. At the time, he said the studio would likely prefer not to put out an update focused only on performance fixes unless it was totally necessary, but it appears that might have been deemed to be the case.

Steam's latest client beta has given you another way to quickly check whether you've got secure boot enabled before you hop into some FPSsing about. Enabling the setting's become mandatory for the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6, as the possibly futile war on cheating continues to rage like, er, well, you know.

It's a controversial way of going about trying to limit the amout of fraudulent 360 no-scopes, as it involves publishers mandating an aspect of how players' hardware's used, if a pretty easy one to check with a trip to your BIOS if you know what you're doing. Not everyone's used to delving into those settings though, which is why it's nice Valve have made this useful addition to their game playing place.

I am gonna claw out your eyes, then drown you to death. I AM GONNA CLAW OUT YOUR EYES, THEN DROWN YOU TO DEATH. So goes the chorus to the hit single Hades 2 girl group Scylla and the sirens have been rehearsing in lethal fashion for a year and a bit. It's one of the most pervasive earworms I've encountered in my 26 years on this Earth, the kind of ditty that'd make the Backstreet Boys blush.

Within an hour of returning to Hades 2, now that it's morphed into its full 1.0 release form, those words were just as firmly lodged in my skull as they were when I defeated Chronos for the first time during the roguelike's early access phase. By all rights, I should find the purposefully mocking tune annoying, but I don't. Much like the rest of Hades 2, no matter how many runs I make through the depths of the underworld and to the summit of Olympus, moments when it's actually, properly grated on me have been few and far between.

Lightning Is the Next Final Fantasy Adorable Arts Figure ffxiii

Square Enix announced its next Final Fantasy Adorable Arts figure will be of Lightning, the lead heroine of FFXIII and first character from that entry in the line. She is available on the eStore now as part of the company's TGS 2025 drop. She costs 7,480円 and will debut on April 25, 2026. While Lightning isn't in the US storefront or on Square Enix's Amazon store yet, past human characters in the line have been $72.99 each. (Red XIII is the exception at $83.99.)

This Lightning figure will be about four inches tall (107mm). Like all characters in the Adorable Arts line, there are additional parts to change her pose. So she can be arranged so her Blazefire Saber gunblade is in its sword form in her right hand at her side, in its gun form with her resting it on her right shoulder, or in sword form as she holds it over her left shoulder. Her left arm is always in a pose with it on her hip.

Here's how she looks:

Most of the Final Fantasy Adorable Arts figures are of characters from FFVII, with Lightning from FFXIII, Zidane and Vivi from FFIX,and Noctis from FFXV being the two exceptions so far. As for FFVII allies and enemies, Aerith, Cloud, Red XIII, Sephiroth, Tifa, Vincent, and Zack are available.

The Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Adorable Arts figure will debut in Japan on April 25, 2026, and FFXIII is available on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Squishmallow Rowlet and Sprigatito Debut at Pokemon Center

Jazwares and The Pokemon Company International released new Squishmallow Plush of Rowlet and Sprigatito in the US Pokemon Center storefront. Each one is $29.99, and both are in-stock on the site. After this initial, limited rollout, both will appear online at places like Amazon and in-store at retailers like Walgreens and Walmart.

As these are the Pokemon Center versions of the new Rowlet and Sprigatito plush, they are only available in the 12 inch size. Each one also features a special tag and a Poke Ball-shaped patch on the back highlighting that they were purchased at this storefront and not part of the wider retailer release. The Rowlet is a little orb with a leaf bow tie and tail on the back. The Sprigatito features extra fur on the sides and front, as well as a tail on the back. Each of these characters are grass-type starters.

Here's how both of them look:

A few other Pokemon joined this Jazware line this month. However, those weren't full-size Squishmallows. Instead, they were plush keychains of Gengar, Pikachu, Snorlax, and Teddiursa. Some of those did sell out after launch, however, so you'd need to wait for a chance to get ones like Gengar and Snorlax.

The Rowlet and Sprigatito Squishmallow plush are now on the Pokemon Center in the US, and we should eventually see them in others online and at retailers like Walgreens and Walmart.

Stellar Blade BGM Song Remixes Added in New Patch

Shift Up announced a celebratory update patch for the PS5 and PC versions of Stellar Blade that honors BGM we hear in the game with six new song remixes. These can be acquired for free, so long as you've progressed far enough to reach Xion. The patch also included a number of bug fixes for both versions of the game. People can download it now. This comes ahead of a teased TGS 2025 announcement.

If you can get to Xion, the new BGM song remixes can be claimed in Stellar Blade by heading to The Last Gulp. By checking in, you can claim "A Thank You Gift from Enya." This includes new takes on the following music from the game's soundtrack.

  • "Arisa"
  • "Democrawler"
  • "Everglow"
  • "Hypertube"
  • "The Song of the Sirens"
  • "Star Descent"

As for the big fixes, here is the official list of changes in the new Stellar Blade patch. In ones that only apply to the PC version, I added a note in parentheses.

  • Fixed an issue in Orbital Elevator - 'CARGO LIFT 121' where resting during the elevator dialogue could occasionally cause the dialogue to restart or the elevator to freeze.
  • Fixed an issue in Boss Challenge where Scarlet would disappear during a phase transition cutscene if Tachy Mode was activated.
  • Fixed an issue in the NIKKE collaboration mini-game where using 'Burst Skill △' on specific monsters would make them immune to Eve's ranged attacks, preventing progress.Fixed an issue where the reeling icon appeared gray after switching the fishing method from 'Reel In Controls' to 'Timing Controls' input.
  • Fixed an issue where, on PC, using a controller with 'Swap Confirm/Cancel Buttons' enabled would cause the UI to display incorrectly after completing a quest. (PC)
  • Fixed an issue during the 'Oblivion' side-quest where the flooded water would disappear before reaching the sewage control device' step, intermittently preventing progression. (PC)
  • Improved key input handling so that Left/Right variants (L/R) of modifier keys (Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Cmd) are now recognized as the same input. (PC)
  • Fixed an issue where dodging became unavailable if the player attempted to dodge while shooting after using 'Burst Skill X' in the NIKKE mini-game. (PC)
  • Fixed an issue where a black box would appear on screen when playing on a Samsung Odyssey 3D monitor. (PC)

This reveal didn't include any insights into a teaser that appeared the week ahead of TGS 2025. That showed a dark hallway with imagery that wouldn't be out of place in a horror game like Silent Hill or even Resident Evil. The announcement noted that we'd learn what that image was about in a week, which would be between September 25-28, 2025.

Stellar Blade is available for the PS5 and PC, the new BGM song remixes patch is live now, and another reveal is expected during TGS 2025.

Square Enix Making Bright Arts Gallery Persona 5 Morgana Figure

Square Enix started releasing Bright Arts Gallery figures of game mascots in 2023, and now it's announced a Persona 5 small statue of Morgana. It will cost 4,950円 (~$33), and the item will appear in Japan on January 31, 2026. This makes it more expensive than the Jack Frost mascot, which was 3,960円 (~$49.99). As all past collectibles in this line did appear worldwide, we should eventually see Mona too.

All Bright Arts Gallery figures are quite tiny. This Morgana one is just under three inches tall (70mm). They are all also made of metal, with a metallic finish. Morgana is in his Mona Phantom Thief look, standing with his arms crossed over his chest.

Here's a closer look at the upcoming Mona figure.

While the Bright Arts Gallery started with Square Enix figures, we've seen lots of others show up before this Persona 5 Morgana one. Other Atlus games ones appeared, from titles like SMT V. Tiny Sega console replicas are in the line too.

The Persona 5 Bright Arts Gallery Morgana figure will appear in Japan on January 31, 2026. The original game launched on the PS3 and PS4, and the Royal release appeared on the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

See TGS Octopath Traveler 0 and Adventures of Elliot Trailers

Part of Square Enix's initial 2025 Tokyo Game Show reveals involved two new trailer reveals looking at the games The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales and Octopath Traveler 0. The former of the two is the shorter one, as it is just under two minutes, but the latter is nearly three minutes.

In the case of The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales TGS 2025 trailer, it focuses on gameplay. We see Elliot the adventurer head out and fight with some of the seven weapons, then his partner Fae aid with fairy magic. The time travel mechanic is highlighted, and some of the newer footage showed bosses like the aquatic Lord of the Maw, robotic Greatsword Guardian, and a vehicle called The Rathomobile.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYExc_JNAqk

With the Octopath Traveler 0 TGS 2025 trailer, the focus is on the story. Our avatar is getting revenge against the people who destroyed their hometown of Wishvale, while also rebuilding it and getting divine ring to make a wish. It looks at Orsterra, which we'll again explore as we invite people to Wishvale, then restore it by adding new homes, facilities, and decorations. In so doing, we'll get shops, resources, and opportunities to grow as a warrior. In addition to hearing about the story, we get to see the Break and Boost battle system with eight active party members and town redevelopment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0klCjrJ41-g

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales will appear on the  Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2026, and a demo is already on the Switch 2. Octopath Traveler 0 will appear on the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on December 4, 2025. TGS 2025 runs September 25-28, 2025.

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy Update Adds Story and Gallery Modes

Capcom announced during its TGS 2025 Online Program that there will be a free update released for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy that adds Gallery and Story Modes, lets you jump to parts of each episodes, and go with different voice and text settings instead of those being tied together. Everything will appear in a patch on November 19, 2025. The update applies to all games in the collection, which are Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice For All, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations.

Essentially, some of the new features bring it up to the same level as other more recent compilations, like Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy and Ace Attorney Investigations Collection. When you go through the cases, you can choose a Story Mode difficulty that makes the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy games basically play themselves so you can enjoy them more like a visual novel and prioritize reading along. The Gallery Mode includes a jukebox and ability to see concept art.

Some of the other elements added are quality of life adjustments. The episode jump is one of them, since it lets you go to a specific episode and choose which part you start at. The Testimony Page functionality, which lets you go back and forth through statements made on the stand, are another. So is the option that separates voice and text options, so someone could use Japanese voice acting with English or the new Latin American Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese subtitle options.

Here's the trailer showing off everything:

During its TGS 2025 showcase, Capcom revealed the release date for the Street Fighter 6 C Viper DLC, Mech Zangief costume, and Banshee's Last Cry crossover with World Tour scenario. Everything arrives on October 15, 2025.

In the case of C Viper, she appeared in her own trailer during the Street Fighter 6 part of the showcase highlighting her DLC. It focused on her moveset, but also showed off her two different costumes in the add-on. She follows Sagat, who joined in August 2025.

In the case of Zangief, his Outfit 4 costume will be Mech Zangie-F. The Capcom Online Program offered a peek at concept art for it. It focused on showing the latest take on the armor. You can see that below.

As for Banshee's Last Cry, it will result in Street Fighter's Last Cry being added as a World Tour Scenario. The teaser showed scenes from it, which seem to resemble the visual novel. It also showed what it's like to travel to it from the menu.

Review: Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Feels Essential

Final Fantasy Tactics is a formative strategy game from Square Enix and former Ogre Battle creators Yasumi Matsuno and Akihiko Yoshida. It led to two handheld sequels, which really deserve to be rereleased in some sort of modern collection, clearly influenced Square Enix's Triangle Strategy, served as an inspiration for many other titles. Upon playing it again in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, I remain convinced at its timeless nature both in terms of solid gameplay and political themes.

The game begins as the tale of a forgotten hero during the War of the Lions in Ivalice. Following the 50 Year War against the nation of Ordalia, the leadership of the nation is in flux. Both Prince Orinas and Princess Ovelia are candidates, each supported by a different faction. Prince Larg of the White Lion is behind Orinas, while Prince Goltana of the Black Lion supports Ovelia. Ramza Beoulve, the son of noble knights and man whose role was obscured, and his commoner friend and adopted brother Delita Heiral, are thrust into pivotal roles during these events after heading off to attend the Gariland Military Academy. After Delita's sister Tietra is killed, the two part ways and take different paths. For Delita, that means serving under the Black Lion. As for Ramza, our protagonist, he becomes a mercenary who rallies against corruption and attempts to do what's right.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6wAVOtgs-A&list=TLGGVVvIUqUBWsMxOTA5MjAyNQ

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles' story is incredibly relevant. It shows the depths of corruption that can exist in a country's government and religious organizations and the sorts of exploitations and machinations implemented to ensure those in power stay in power. We see people manipulate one another for their own means, showing no mercy. Yet at the same time, there is the idea that it is possible to find happiness. There can be a better way. That even if you are branded as a heretic and scorned, staying true to yourself can lead to happiness. Your actions and fight to do the right thing will matter. It's equal parts heartbreaking and uplifting, and the new translations helps highlight that. As does the full voice acting in the Enhanced version. It's incredibly good. The casting is perfect and it really hammers important moments home, and the animations are gorgeous. I also feel like important characters joining the party, such as Mustadio Bunansa, carry more weight due to new localization and conversation choices on Square Enix's part.

Now, before we even get into why Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles still feels and plays so extraordinarily well even 28 years after its original release, I need to acknowledge what's one of the wisest moves for this. It's actually a compilation. One option is the Classic experience. This uses the War of the Lions PSP translation, adds an autosave feature, and includes some adjustments and bug fixes to make the original game a little more accommodating and in line with modern expectations. But it's still the base game with graphics that look a bit better. The Enhanced Edition is the one Square Enix really put the work into. Aside from the voice acting, which I mentioned earlier and is exclusive to it, there's a new UI, higher resolution, enhanced textures, and rebalanced. It also adjusts the control scheme, and I really liked being able to cycle through tabs with shoulder buttons and zoom in with the left analog stick. Having saved loadouts is nice. When trying to build characters up, the change that lets us trigger a random encounter battle instead of hoping for one is huge too. There does seem to be a noticeable filter, which I think might be a dithering effect, but I honestly sort of like it? Not everyone might, but it's a very minor design choice. I primarily played the Enhanced version, though I did go through the first chapter in the Classic mode, and both feel like solid and well-executed ports.

Even more important is the Sound Novels. When the Japanese version released years ago, there were these additional stories that got into Ivalice lore and history. They're also interactive visual novels that tell the story of an airship captain, a gambler, a noblewoman's love story with a commoner, and a spy. They're fascinating bits of history and really add to the experience. We do still need to unlock them, which will mean taking on some Errand sidequests and such. But I so love that finally, we're getting to read them. Especially since it's coming after Square Enix already ensured everyone worldwide got access to another region-locked sound novel with the Chrono Cross remaster.

I think the only failing of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, in terms of preservation purposes,is that it isn't a perfect and 100% complete rendition of the game. Director Kazutoyo Maehiro already explained the master data and source code were lost. In that same Square Enix official interview, the developer noted the team decided to focus on the original release, leaving out the additional FFXII Balthier and FFT A2 Luso units and Dark Knight and Onion Knight classes. Now, I get that decision. The Dark Knight is extremely overpowered, and I remember how I used Balthier to break the game in The War of the Lions. However, I'm upset about their absence. Considering this is actually a collection with Classic and Enhanced versions, I would have loved to have seen The War of the Lions additions in the latter so that PSP release could have been acknowledged.

But when it comes to gameplay, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles feels flawless. The turn-based battles take place on an isometric, grid-based field with varying degrees of elevation. Characters belong to different jobs. Attacking and felling foes nets you experience and job points to advance your abilities and grow into greater roles. In addition to named protagonists, such as Ramza and Agrias, we can recruit others and tame monsters. We also go through main campaign quests and send the generic units on Errands to boost them up. It's also possible to find special named units as new allies, especially when Mustadio is around. Keeping things like elevation in mind, as well as building up a balanced team around the 20 jobs is critical. Given how easy it is to tame monsters, I really appreciated being able to have 50 people in the party in the Enhanced version. Likewise, I felt like the ability to speed up battles helped a lot in the early chapters as a returning player. I also did sample the Casual, Standard, and Tatcical difficulties in Enhanced, getting through Chapter 1 in each, and I feel like the easiest option could be great for newcomers who want to finally catch up and aren't as familiar with strategy games. If you go with the Standard or Tactical, then you're in for genuine challenges.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles remains a fantastic strategy game, and its story feels even more relevant in 2025. It has everything. Hope. Despair. Loyalty. Betrayal. The option to take on battles that put your critical thinking skills and hours of preparation to the test. This latest release feels like a near perfect one for preparation purposes, due to it offering Classic and Enhanced options. I think if all content from the War of the Lions PSP release made it in, I might even consider it flawless. But even without it, it's an exemplary experience.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on September 30, 2025.

Character in OD Knock looking terrified.

Hideo Kojima's upcoming horror game, OD: Knock, announced way back when, has finally gotten a new trailer. And, though it looks hauntingly similar to the cancelled P.T. and could be a masterclass in horror, I'm more scared of its use of certain technologies that may throw it off the tracks.

And, yes, you've already guessed it: I'm talking about Unreal Engine 5. Instead of his established Decima Engine, Kojima is going for the Unreal Engine this time around, likely because of its free license, the former being the property of Sony. This'll let Kojima once again be free of corporate ties and allow him to publish his game on whatever platform he sees fit. That's all fine and dandy, if it weren't carrying significant risks of a poor launch.

Another reason for using the Unreal Engine 5 is its exceptional human recreation capabilities, with, as we've seen in both the first teaser and this new trailer, OD having realistic facial reconstructions of its actors. Face scanning is nothing new and has been in games for over 15 years, but never on the level provided by Unreal Engine 5 and the Epic-owned Serbian studio, 3Lateral, which worked on Hellblade 2, and now on OD, among other things.

But high-tech means high demands, as even with our current home PC technology, we aren't fully capable of running these super ultra refined technologically-advanced games with respectable performance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHCqxLtwy5g

No matter what, implementing all of this will inevitably lead to the vast majority of players struggling to run the game on PC, unless they opt to use AI-backed upscalers and other artificial means to "improve" fps while tremendously sacrificing visual fidelity. This last is quite the conundrum, as it is the game's innate visual beauty that's causing the issues in the first place.

Unreal Engine 5 itself, with its graphical fidelity, is demanding as-is, with all these extra techs added on top significantly increasing how much power it needs to work properly. I do trust Kojima Productions to optimize the game to the utmost, given his track record with Death Stranding 1, 2, and The Phantom Pain, all of which were very performative on a wide array of hardware.

Even with my trust in Kojima, I do not trust Epic Games' engine whatsoever. Time and again, it has proven to be too demanding for most players, which, according to Steam's surveys, still rocks Nvidia's 3000-series graphics cards, or the lower-end of the 4000 series. None of these cards can run UE5 games well without making huge dents in their settings, which, as I've said, is paradoxical, since the engine is made for beauty and graphics.

OD KNOCK gameplay
The graphics are impeccable, though. Screenshot by Destructoid

Just this year, we've had games like Borderlands 4, made on UE5, which, while looking great, perform so badly that it's caused a massive PR drama between the company's executives and players. Avowed, too, was a visual mess, despite its shiny fantasy setting. Muddy textures, borderline forced upscaling, and stuttering issues that never ended were just some of its engine-level problems.

I've covered AAA disasters in a separate feature, so check it out.

Anyhow, I have high hopes for whatever Kojima is doing, be it OD or PhysInt or anything else. However, I am wary of UE5, and I sincerely hope the team Kojima's put together finds ways to mitigate its massive performance hits and allow the world to experience this story properly.

Static-like shot of Ebisugaoka with two UFO flying in background

It's not Silent Hill without a joke ending, and The Great Space Invasion! in Silent Hill is just that. When the first of the series meets the second, you get a Shiba Inu piloting a spacecraft. Utilizing manga to tell the short but sweet story where Shu and Hinako's Space Wars are brought to life, The Great Space Invasion! is a welcoming conclusion to an otherwise disturbing tale.

With five endings to Silent Hill f, you likely don't want to complete a new playthrough to see every conclusion. Thankfully, The Great Space Invasion! ending can be obtained within the first two hours of the game. Here's everything you need to know about those foreign objects floating around Ebisugaoka. Is there any truth to their tale?

How to listen to the UFO Broadcast in Silent Hill f

What's a tad confusing about this ending is that the conditions list multiple broadcasts in the Endings tab on the Main Menu. But with only one broadcast to listen to, you can find it in a sneaky area during the "Avoid the monsters and move ahead" objective. You must listen to it here as it leads directly to the next step of picking up the UFO Posters; before you reunite with Shu, complete the Field puzzle, and find Rinko.

Where to find all The Great Space Invasion! Posters in Silent Hill f

You can get this ending in the objective "Catch up with Shu and Rinko." You must pick up the posters in chronological order to activate this ending. While you can click on them in any random order, they only count when you see the short cutscenes of flying objects above Ebisugaoka.

Here are all poster locations:

  • UFO Poster [1]: Located in the crop fields when you're heading to Rinko's house. This is right before the first giant monster appears, and you have to rotate the well wheel three times to get a key. You need to move the knocked-over structure near this building to reach the poster on the wall. Beware of the scarecrow monsters that jump around the fields.
  • UFO Poster [2]: Keep playing until you meet up with Shu and Rinko, then follow them south, towards the School. Continue following Shu and Rinko until you reach a shrine where a stronger version of the mannequin-like monster spawns in on a narrow passage near it. The poster is right next to this shrine.
  • UFO Poster [3]: Backtrack to the alley where you got the cutscene about the monsters blocking the path outside Chizuruya General Store (prompting the trio to head in the other direction). Go to the building nearest to the alley entrance, just beyond a blue flag on the floor, and locate the final poster. You would have passed this initially, as it's on the same side as the crop field.

Where is the Movie Review in Silent Hill f?

The final step to achieve this ending is to locate the Movie Review. This is right outside Chizuruya General Store, where you met Shu, Rinko, and Sakuko at the start of the game. This is to the right of the alley from the third UFO Poster's location (when you look in the direction of the School and your current objective).

Appearing as a simple sheet on paper on the ground in front of the store, you need to get past the various enemies in the area, pick up the review and back out of the reading screen to activate the ending. There is no need to fight these monsters, so beeline for the store's front door and grab this before the enemies grab you.

You can pick this ending up when the objective is "Catch up with Shu and Rinko." Remember to manually save before you activate The Great Space Invasion!, that way you can reload and continue where you left off if you still have other endings to get.

Pikachu and Ash surprised in a Pokémon movie trailer

The Pokémon Company did not authorize the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to use its theme song 'Gotta Catch 'em All' in a viral video published last Monday that highlighted ICE deportations.

"We are aware of a recent video posted by the Department of Homeland Security that includes imagery and language associated with our brand," a Pokémon Company representative told The Daily Beast. "Our company was not involved in the creation or distribution of this content, and permission was not granted for the use of our intellectual property."

The DHS video, which is still available on X, uses the first Pokémon anime theme song and clips of its opening mixed with real footage of ICE operations in the recent government crackdown against immigrants in the U.S.

https://twitter.com/DHSgov/status/1970251208322621530

The post received mixed reactions. While some users were supportive and made even more connections between ICE's work and Pokémon, others were tagging Nintendo of America and The Pokémon Company in the replies, calling for a lawsuit.

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are known for suing regular people and companies for copyright infringement whenever they use Pokémon to promote anything. They've sued all kinds of people and entities, from big developers like Palword's Pocketpair for copying Pokémon's game mechanics to a random guy throwing a Pokémon-themed party in 2015. But suing the U.S. government would be a first.

It's unclear whether The Pokémon Company will seek legal action against the DHS. The company's former chief legal officer doubts it will happen because The Pokémon Company doesn't like to be in the press for controversial reasons and because "many of their execs in the USA are on green cards."

Player taking a finesse shot in FC 26

The Early Access Challenge 2 SBC brings another interesting fodder SBC for all FC 26 players to consider. They can exchange fodder from their clubs to win a new pack and open in Ultimate Team.

As usual, the SBC has only one task, and it has specific requirements. Compared to the first early access challenge, the requirements on the second iteration are trickier. This guide will help you solve the SBC without any problem and unlock the available rewards.

FC 26 Early Access Challenge 2 SBC tasks

Here are the requirements of the solo tasks of the second Early Access challenge.

Early Access Challenge 2 SBC

  • Max. Nationalities in Squad: 2
  • Min. 5 Players from the same League
  • Max. 4 Players from the same Club
  • Min. 1 Players: Rare
  • Min. Team Rating: 75
  • Min. Squad Total Chemistry Points: 31

The main bone of contention is the 31 squad chemistry, which can be pretty hard to achieve. However, we have a solution for you.

EA FC 26 Early Access Challenge 2 SBC solutions

The key is to use cards that are already available in your club. That will reduce the completion cost and increase the valuation of your rewards. However, you can also use the following solution if you get stuck.

  • Reese ST 75
  • Haug ST 76
  • Undav CAM 80
  • Gunter LM 77
  • Ronstadt RM 66
  • Neuhaus CDM 75
  • Rieckmann CDM 64
  • Sontheimer CB 67
  • Jung CB 67
  • Hanche-Olsen CB 75
  • Schwabe GK 77

Your effort will earn you a Prime Gold Players Pack, which I reckon is excellent at this time of the year. It contains 12 Gold Player items. At least six of those cards are guaranteed to be Rare, with one of them being rated 82 or higher. You may also find a walkout from the pack, so make sure to complete the SBC before it expires after the next three days (as of Sept. 24).

A rotting, glowing face of a Napoleonic soldier towers above a dark battlefield in Valor Mortis.

Valor Mortis, the Napoleonic Soulslike game from Ghostrunner developers, is hosting a public playtest early next month. This free first look will let players who've signed up try the title out and see how all those different genres blend with the Napoleonic setting.

To sign up for the playtest, all you'll have to do is go to this link and log in via Steam or Discord, and then enter your e-mail, and that's about it. You'll be added to the waitlist for the pre-alpha test, running from Oct. 6 to 13. And it's not a small chunk of gameplay, either, with the devs promising testers a good part of Valor Mortis' introductory parts.

The test will encompass "the game's complete introductory chapter, including a boss fight, mini-boss, 10 levels of player progression, and the first section of the upgrade tree," the developers said, while several player contests will be held parallel to the test, including "speedrun, fan art and screenshot contests." And it's free, so do not miss out on taking the game for a spin ahead of its 2026 release window, with the exact date yet to be determined.

Valor Mortis follows William, a Grande Armée risen from his battlefield grave. He navigates an alternate Napoleonic Europe where plagues and disease grip the land. A strange substance, Nephtoglobin, grants William untold powers, but also corrupts most of those who interact with it, including his former brothers in arms. The game is structured much like a Soulslike, with boss fights and combat mastery playing a central role.

During Gamescom 2025, Destructoid gave Valor Mortis its "Best Gamescom 2025 Announcement Award," praising its incredible looks, inspired setting, and grotesque monsters that look straight out of an Umbrella Corporation lab.

BO7 Zombies truck

Perks are not only returning to Black Ops 7 Zombies, but there's also a new addition.

The trailer released on Sept. 24 gave us an early insight into what to expect from the mode. While there are new features, like a new vehicle, most of the Zombies' features will return. Perks remain essentially unchanged, but there are a few tweaks to discuss.

New perks in Black Ops 7 Zombies

There will be 12 perks at launch. While 11 of them are returning from Black Ops 6, there is a new entrant.

Wisp Tea

A new addition, the Wisp Tea perk summons a wisp after slaying a certain number of zombies. It will start killing zombies in the surrounding areas for around 30 seconds.

The Wisp has a two-minute cooldown and can target every zombie. It will turn around if only one zombie is remaining.

Here are the major and minor augments for the new perk.

Major Augments

  • Mask of Wrath: The Demon deals more damage.
  • Mask of Salvation: The Fox can revive you when active for up to three times per match.
  • Mask of Distraction: The Monkey can attack enemies and deal damage.
  • Mask of Benevolence: The Maiden heals you periodically.

Minor Augments

  • Extension: Increases the Wisp's lifetime
  • Haste: Reduces the cooldown to summon Wisp.
  • Zombie Sitter: The Wisp will avoid killing the last zombie until the round times out.
  • Fetcher: The Wisp will pick up items and power-ups for you.

All returning perks in Black Ops 7 Zombies

In Season 1, 11 perks will return to Black Ops 7 Zombies from last year. Their in-game effects and augments will remain the same.

  • Jugger-Nog: Increases max health from 100 to 250.
  • PhD Flopper: Explosive dive to prone and immunity to self-inflicted explosive damage.
  • Elemental Pop: Attacks can trigger random ammo mods.
  • Melee Macchiato: Replace the weapon with a gun butt with a deadly punch.
  • Vulture Aid: Increase the variety of loot dropped by enemies.
  • Double Tap: Increase weapon fire rate.
  • Quick Revive: recover health and revive allies faster.
  • Deadshot Daiquiri: Improve ADS precision and increase the critical damage of bullets.
  • Death Perception: Obscured enemies are outlined.
  • Stamin-Up: Increases movement speed.
  • Speed Cola: Reload weapons and replate armor faster.

Once we get new perks later down the line, we will add them to this guide.

Stairway to a shrine in Tsushima, surrounded by falling leaves and autumn treets.

History is our greatest teacher. Looking through the past six thousand years of recorded events, we can learn much, both of the societies of yore and of human nature itself, reminding ourselves how far we've come and how quickly we could descend into the pits of madness.

It's only natural then that video games have a particular fondness for history and historical storytelling, building on the essentially infinite temporal treasure trove and all the different periods, cultures, and nations. But some historical periods remain largely untapped even after video games have spent 40 years exploring all sorts of themes, locations, and eras, especially in games that aren't real-time or grand strategies.

So, tell me, Destructoid, which historical era would you love to see more of in video games?

Ghost of Tsushima minimum PC requirements
Tsushima ahistorically covers the Mongol invasions of Japan, which were Mongol in name only and largely unsuccessful. Image via PlayStation

Personally, I would absolutely get hyped for any game that involves the Mongol invasions, and I don't mean heavily fictionalized accounts of them losing to islanders. The Mongols were probably the greatest continental conquerors of human history, emerging from undeveloped steppes as herdsmen and becoming emperors, kings, and suzerains.

It's the greatest rags-to-riches story ever, and one that has influenced the entirety of human civilization, leading directly or indirectly to some of the greatest (in terms of size) events like the Black Death, the Fall of Byzantium, the rise of the Ottoman Empire, and so on.

While Ghost of Tsushima does take heavy inspiration from one of the Mongol incursions into Japan (which were Mongol in name only, the troops being comprised of Han Chinese and Korean vassals), it does not do justice to the sheer scope of the Mongol Empire and its desolation of all lands and peoples they had encountered in battle.

A game following the rise of Genghis Khan, or one where you play as someone caught in the mayhem of one of his descendants' campaigns, would be absolute cinema. Yes, yes, grand strategy games like Crusader Kings 3 already follow those exploits, but they do so in a significantly fictionalized and gameified way that transposes history to fit the gameplay. And it does it from a very detached POV, separating you from the events that truly unfold.

Just imagine that setting, those events, and a Kingdom Come: Deliverance-style perspective and approach. Kino in the purest sense.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey
The AC games covered a good chunk of history, but have largely kept to the most "popular" eras. Image via Ubisoft

Another time period altogether ignored by the games industry is the Bronze Age. It's super interesting even if we don't know all too much about it, which I think lends itself to creativity due to writers having basically zero restrictions in how they wish to depict certain events.

Take the Bronze Age Collapse, for example. All of a sudden, within just a few decades, the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean collapsed under strange circumstances, brought down by the theorized Sea Peoples. Cities were burned, whole nations ruined. It's as epic as they come, and perfect for a video game and a unique story that is not bogged down by too much "known" historical limitation.

It'd provide a perfect way to go back into ancient times and not be concerned about Classical Greece or Rome, which take up a significant portion of ancient-inspired storytelling, not just in our time, but throughout Western culture in general. I know it's because of their written works and legacies, but I still firmly believe there's a lot to be done with other parts of the world, even during those times, rather than just focusing on these two.

Japan's Sengoku period, China's many eras from the Three Kingdoms to the Warring States, and so many other historical periods, even if super popular in culture, have largely eluded video games outside of strategy, and even when they do get made, they get the fantasy treatment with legendary lords, all-powerful heroes, and other embellishments.

History is altogether too vast to be covered in full, no matter the medium. But, as I've outlined above, some parts of the tale of humanity are largely ignored by entertainment media, so do tell me your own personal favorite periods that haven't yet gotten a proper treatment in the video game industry.

Please note that these names were merely leaks at the time of writing this guide on Sept. 24. We will only have confirmation about their overall ratings, positions, and more after the promo goes live. Until then, take every piece of information with a grain of salt.

We will add more names to this list as they appear on social media. In the meantime, let's check out when you can get these Cornerstones cards.

FC 26 Cornerstones release date

Cornerstones will be going live on Friday, Sept. 26. It also marks the full launch, as owners of Standard Edition will be joining the game on the same day. The new promo will go live at 6pm UK time (12pm CT), when the cards will be added to packs. You'll then have to hope for some good luck as you open the packs.

Some of the objective cards could be released as part of objectives and SBCs, so look out for those. Unlike the promo cards in packs, you'll have to submit specific squads/complete tasks to get SBC and rewards from objectives.

Hades 2 Poseidon

When approaching the various god Boons in Hades 2, you're presented with a tough choice. Not only do you need to consider which of the three options is best, but certain Boons are great with certain weapons and horrible on others. That's why knowing which Boons you should always consider is helpful. Here are the best Boons for each god in Hades 2.

The best Boons to take for each god in Hades 2

Due to each god having so many Boons, we're limiting it to three Boons each. You may not get any of these Boons when presented with the three options, but you should always consider them if they appear. We also won't be including Chaos here, since their Boon list is massive and the choice depends heavily on your build and stats. With that in mind, let's get started:

Apollo

  • Lucid Gain: While standing in your Casts, gradually restore Magick.
  • Extra Dose: Your Attack has a chance to hit two times.
  • Nova Strike: Your Attacks deal more damage in a larger area.

Apollo is the god with the most utility-based boons, thus his options are more complementary than something to center a build around. Lucid Gain is always good as it's a quick way to restore some Mana very quickly, while Extra Dose and Nova Strike are particularly good with melee weapons. I adore using Nova Strike with the Moonstone Axe, since it makes its Attack and Omega Attack gigantic.

Aphrodite

  • Rupture Ring: Your Casts drag foes in and inflict Weak.
  • Secret Crush: After you enter a Location, Prime 20 Magick to add Power to your Attack.
  • Passion Dash: Your Dash blasts foes near where you start and end, and inflicts Weak.

Rupture Ring is an excellent choice since it'll force enemies into one spot, setting you up to hit multiple enemies at once with a Special or Omega Attack. Secret Crush is raw damage for a little Primed Magick, while Passion Dash is an easy way to apply Weak if you aren't playing a long-distance build.

Artemis

  • Lethal Snare: Foes in your Casts may take Critical damage from your Attacks.
  • Support Fire: After you hit with your Attacks or Specials, fire a seeking arrow.
  • Death Warrant: A random foe occasionally becomes Marked. If it takes Critical damage, this repeats.

With some potent Crit abilities and extra sources of damage from Artemis, all of these options are incredible. Death Warrant is specifically great when fighting bosses, while Lethal Snare and Support Fire are just extra damage for doing what you likely already do. Who's going to complain about that?

Demeter

Hades 2 Demeter
Image via Destructoid.

  • Ice Strike: Your Attacks deal more damage and inflict Freeze.
  • Gale Force: Your Casts also create a Cyclone at the binding circle.
  • Rare Crop: Your Boons become Common, then gain Rarity every 3 Encounters.

Ice Strike is excellent on various weapons, perhaps excluding the Argent Skull. It's a potent source of Freeze that will lock your enemies in place and works against enemies with Armor who normally can't be stun locked. Gale Force adds some extra utility since it slows down enemy projectiles. Meanwhile, if taken early, Rare Crop is a godlike Boon (pun very intended).

Hephaestus

  • Heavy Metal: Gain some defense. Foes' attacks cannot knock you away.
  • Uncanny Fortitude: Gain bonus HP based on your Magick limit.
  • Trusty Shield: After you enter a Location, Prime 30 Magick to gain armor until the next Location.

If you see Hephaestus, you're best off going for anything providing you Life or Armor. His blast attacks can be powerful, but unless you can get their cooldowns lowered significantly, you're better off going with options from other gods.

Hera

  • Bridal Glow: Your Boons become Heroic, then lose Rarity every 5 Encounters.
  • Sworn Strike: Your Attacks deal more damage and inflict Hitch.
  • Proper Upbringing: While you have at least 3 Earth Boons, all your Common Boons gain rarity.

Hera doesn't have too much to offer, though Bridal Glow is incredible when taken near the end of the run, as is Proper Upbringing. Sworn Strike isn't bad even if outclassed, since Hitch can surprise you with its power.

Hermes

Hades 2 Hermes
Image via Destructoid.

  • Swift Strike: Your Attacks are faster.
  • Quick Buck: You find Gold Crowns in greater quantities. Receive 100 Gold Crowns now, plus the bonus!
  • Nitro Boost: Your Sprint is 20% faster and gives you a barrier that ignores instances of damage.

Swift Strike helps a ton with DPS no matter which Attack Boon you might have taken, while Nitro Boost is good as a disengage tool if a fight gets hairy. Quick Buck is always great since it means more money to snag free stuff from Charon.

Hestia

  • Flame Strike: Your Attacks inflict Scorch.
  • Glowing Coal: Hold Cast to aim a fiery projectile that explodes on impact. The binding circle forms there.
  • Fire Extinguisher: Foes with at least 300 Scorch take a burst of damage that consumes the effect.

Hestia and the Sister Blades are a match made in Heaven, but her boons are still great with other fast-hitting weapons like the Staff or Umbral Flames. Combining Flame Strike and Fire Extinguisher is an incredible combo on these weapons, while Glowing Coal is a great ranged Cast.

Poseidon

  • Geyser Ring: Your Cast immediately detonates, dealing damage and knocking foes away.
  • Hydraulic Might: At the start of each Encounter, your Attacks and Specials are stronger for 10 seconds.
  • Fluid Gain: After you strike foes with your Weapon, a Spirit Bubble may appear.

While Poseidon's Attack and Special Boons leave much to be desired, some of his side Boons are excellent. Fluid Gain is one of the best Boons in the game due to how much Magick you can regenerate, Geyser Ring is a potent source of burst damage, and Hydraulic Might is wonderful for speeding encounters up.

Selene

Hades 2 Selene
Image via Destructoid.

  • Moon Water: Your Hex restores 25 HP up to 3 times, which reset whenever you use Fountains.
  • Wolf Howl: Your Hex makes you rise up then crash down in the target area for 200 damage.
  • Total Eclipse: Your Hex blasts the target area for 1000 damage after 4 seconds.

While not technically Boons, we're including Selene's Hexes here as they're just as important of a choice. Moon Water is arguably the best Hex in the game as it's a great way to restore HP quickly, Wolf Howl is a nice bit of burst damage, and Total Eclipse is a tactical nuke wherever you point it. The rest of her options are either mediocre or downright bad.

Zeus

  • Heaven Strike: Your Attack inflicts Blitz.
  • Lightning Lance: Hold Cast to aim where the binding circle appears. Foes within are struck by lightning.
  • Static Shock: After you enter a Location, Prime 50 magick to make your strikes emit chain-lightning.

Zeus is like Hades 2's version of Ares, with bursts of damage a staple part of his Boons. You could take many of his Boons and manage just fine, but Heaven Strike combined with Lightning Lance and Static Shock is incredible. You'll be wiping out crowds and bursting down enemies in no time.

Hecate in Hades 2

You can't spend eternity just hacking away at Hades 2; sometimes, you will need to relax a little bit as well. Thankfully, the hot spring is there for you and a companion to enjoy when things get tense.

The best thing about bringing someone to the hot springs is that you can have a conversation with them you would not otherwise witness, and get some additional lore about each character, as well as further developing your relationship with them. Given that the strength of the writing and character building is always a core part of Supergiant Games' work, you can bet this will be quite rewarding over time.

Which characters can you bring to the hot tub in Hades 2?

Hades 2 Hot Spring
Screenshot by Destructoid

Dora, Eris, Hecate, Odysseus, Nemesis, Icarus, and Moros can all be brought to the hot springs with you in Hades 2.

All of the characters need to be somewhat friendly with you before they will just dive in, however. This means you will need to bring them gifts to improve their affection for you. The most prominent gift for many of these characters is simple Nectar, and for most of them the characters, you can just keep bringing them Nectar to unlock the required level of affection to get them in the tub. You can purchase Nectar from the Wretched Broker, or as a reward for clearing areas on your dungeon runs.

Character Gifts
Dora 1 Nectar
Eris 3 Nectar
Hecate 2 Nectar
Moros 2 Nectar
Nemesis 4 Nectar and 1 Twin Lures (you need to go fishing with her first)
Odysseus 2 Nectar
Icarus 6 Nectar and 1 Twin Lures

There is one more thing that you will need to convince people to get into the springs with you, Bath Salts. To get the Bath Salts, you need to unlock the springs (more on that later), which will get you a single dose of the useful resource. To get more, you can purchase them from the Wretched Broker, who will sell you the Bath Saltes for 50 Bones. You can also find them while out and about on your runs, but you will need the Silver Spade to be able to dig them up.

This might seem a little complicated, but you will need to do the following steps:

  • Purchase the Night's Craftwork incantation at the Cauldron early in the game. This will cost a single Moly, a plant you can find early in the game.
  • Go to the main area and use 1 Ashes to buy the Cresent Pick.
  • Equip the Cresent Pick and do runs to find the Silver nodes. You need 10 Silver in total.
  • Use your 10 silver to craft the Silver Spade tool, then use that to find the Bath Salts.

As you may have guessed, the expectation is that you will get to this later in the game, so don't worry about it all too soon. There is also a very useful way to check how far along you are with your relationship with someone. Play through and fight Hecate three times, and this will give you access to the Book of Shadows. You can then upgrade the book of Shadows using the Empath's Intuition spell that you can learn at the Cauldron near Hecate. Once that is done, the character pages in the book will display the next level of affection for each character, and what they need.

How to unlock the hot springs

Hades 2 gameplay fun
Image via Supergiant Games

If you have yet to unlock the hot springs, it is not that hard to do. First, you will need to do a few runs of the game. After passing enough nights, a recipe will appear at the Cauldron near Hecate called Rite of Vapor-Cleansing. To properly make this spell you will need 2 Moly, 2 Lotus, and 2 Nightshade, which can be collected doing various runs through Erebus and Oceanus. The exception to this is Nightshade, which must be grown at the Crossroads.

All incantations and rewards in Hades 2

Trained by Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft, Melinoë can use Magick during combat and cast mystical spells that assist her in her quest to kill Time. But what are all the Hades 2 Incantations, and what kind of rewards do they offer?

There are dozens of Incantations in Hades 2, which can only be unlocked at the Crossroads Cauldron. Most Incantations are inaccessible until you pass some kind of prerequisite. You'll either have to meet or defeat a certain enemy, progress in a new Region/Location, become better friends with an ally, or find yourself in dire need of something. Some Incantations also come to Melinoë as if shared by a greater force. Regardless of how the spells appear, they're all incredibly useful in Melinoë's fight to defeat Chronos and free her family.

All Hades 2 Incantations and Rewards

All Hades 2 Incantations and their rewards, explained - list of cauldron spells
Screenshot by Destructoid

Below, you'll find the list of all Incantations in Hades 2 and what they offer on activation. Every Incantation requires materials; you can't make a good stew without ingredients. Again, keep in mind that most Incantations won't be available until they're needed. Often, that means you'll only be able to learn them once you've made enough progress in your quest. Keep playing, and soon you'll gain access to the whole list.

The early-game Incantations require materials that don't take long to locate and gather. With Gathering Tools, you should be able to acquire enough ingredients during the first in-game week to unlock a large portion of the Incantation list. The further down you go, however, the more expensive the Incantation, and the more danger you'll be in when searching for the necessary resources.

A large, yellow exclamation point will hover over the Crossroads Cauldron if you have enough ingredients to unlock an Incantation.

There are also rare resources created via Alchemy, which are included below the Incantation list.

These two guides should help you discover what you need for Incantations:

Incantation Materials Required Reward

All Alchemy recipes in Hades 2

Like with Incantations, you learn about Alchemy and obtain recipes as you progress through the game. There's at least one recipe tied directly to story progression, so it's important to check the Alchemy tab at the Crossroads Cauldron every chance you get. Thankfully, there aren't as many recipes to learn as there are Incantations. Unlike Incantations, Alchemy can be used as often as needed.

Alchemy Recipe Materials Needed Reward
Shadow Extraction 30 Ash, 30 Psyche, 3 Fate Fabric Awards +1 Shadow after 12 While.
Beast-Loved Morsel 1 Star Dust, 1 Lotus Awards +2 Witch's Delight after 14 While
Moonlit Essence from Shadow 1 Cinder, 1 Shadow Awards +5 Moon Dust after 8 While.
Moonlit Essence from Stars 1 Star Dust Awards +3 Moon Dust after 4 While.
Sweet Nectar 1 Golden Apple Awards +3 Nectar after 8 While.

Completing Alchemy recipes takes time, which is indicated by something called "While." Learn more about While and how it passes by reading our helpful guide.

Players facing enemies in Megabonk with a sword in hand

Megabonk offers different characters to use in the game, and not all of them are built the same.

Your choices will be minimal when you're just starting. You can unlock more characters by completing specific in-game conditions. Some of them are naturally stronger than the remaining choices, and this tier list will help you to settle on the best options.

Complete Megabonk character tier list

To classify the characters, I have used three different tiers.

  • S-tier represents the best set of characters, who are extremely strong in the meta.
  • A-tier represents strong characters who can do well in the hands of players who understand their kits.
  • B-tier represents average characters who are helpful in niche situations.
  • C-tier represents the weakest characters in the current meta.

S-tier

  • Calcium: One of the most complex characters to master, Calcium can hit multiple enemies with the same shot. For building, it's best to go full damage to make his Bones more powerful. His passive also automatically increases his speed over time. Alternatively, you can also power up his speed slightly.
  • CL4NK: The best character in the game, and he can dish out massive damage quickly. It's best to go with a hybrid of crit and damage as a build.
  • Megachad: Arguably the tankiest character in the game, Megachad is perfect for completing the AFK challenge. You can improve his shield and damage for better results.
  • Robinette: Pure DPS by abilities, you'll do well to use a tome that improves her Gold income per level, as that will also increase her damage. You should also buff her crit.
  • Dicehead: Dicehead is one of the most broken characters in the current meta, and it's easy to build him up. Just go full crit and damage, and that will be enough.

A-Tier

  • Sir Oofie: While Sir Oofie is slow, he is beginner-friendly and a good starter pick for all. You should aim to improve his attack speed to make him last longer.
  • Ninja: While speed is no problem for Ninja, I will put a shield on him personally. Alternatively, you can go full damage and crit build if you want to one-shot enemies.
  • Bush: Bush is a typical sniper who excels at precise shots. You should aim well and buff his damage and critical chance with the correct tomes.
  • Ogre: Ogre is an all-rounder who doesn't specialize in anything specific. I feel it's just best to go with a complete damage build for him, as that will buff up all his all-around skills.

B-tier

There is not much to say about B- and C-tier characters. You can go with them, but the names on the tiers above are better across all situations.

  • Athena
  • Noelle
  • Tony McZoom
  • Amog
  • Birdo
  • Vlad
  • Fox
  • Monke

C-tier

  • Sir Chadwell
  • Spaceman
  • Bandit

To use more characters (apart from Sir Oofie), you'll need to unlock them.

BO7 Zombies truck

For the first time ever, Zombies are coming to a Call of Duty beta.

Treyarch announced today that the Black Ops 7 beta next weekend will include a taste of the Zombies mode, specifically the Survival game type, on a map called Vandorn Farm, which looks to be a remake or re-hash of an older map from the franchise.

BO7 Zombies Vandorn Farm
Image via Activision

Zombies has always been a bit of a sacred mode in CoD, and one that's shrouded in secrecy up until launch. But now, players will be able to try out the round-based Survival mode over the course of the beta weekend ahead of time.

The full-fledged round-based map, Ashes of the Damned, will still be saved for launch, though. And that's the way it should be. But I think giving players a chance to try the mode and offer feedback is a no-brainer (mmm, brains), especially since this will attract more players than usual for the beta test.

As part of today's reveal, Activision did a deep dive on BO7's Zombies mode in a huge blog post, detailing everything from Perk-a-Colas, power-ups, Ammo Mods, Field Upgrades, and even the new Necrofluid Gauntlet Wonder Weapon that will be making its debut alongside Ashes of the Damned at launch. And oh yeah, there's a big ass Zombie bear that will be terrorizing players, too.

The BO7 beta has an early access period from Oct. 2 to 5, and then an open period from Oct. 5 to 8, so players don't even need to pre-order to try it out ahead of the game's full launch on Nov. 14. I see this as a total win for everybody involved.

All weapons in Hades 2 and how to get them

Few things in Hades or Hades 2 are more satisfying than unlocking a brand-new weapon to play around with. And there's nothing like having plenty of choices in the matter. Here's every weapon available in Hades 2 and how to unlock them.

There are six weapons in Hades 2. The first one is free, but the others require you to gather materials, summon them to Crossroads, and have them join your arsenal. A few are rather easy to conjure early on, but others will take a bit more effort on your part. Yeah, it's pretty much just how it was done in the original Hades.

Hades 2: All weapons and how to get them

You begin with your first weapon already unlocked in Hades 2. The Witch's Staff is available from the start of the game, which thrusts you into combat fresh as a morning fart and just as easily dissipated. To view the unlockable weapons in the Arms of Night, you need to travel down to the second level of the Crossroads and activate the large sigil on the ground. This is the 'Silver Pool', in which you'll find the list of the available Nocturnal Arms and info on how to unlock them.

Here are all the weapons in Hades 2 Early Access and how to get them unlocked:

Icon Weapon Name Desription How to unlock
Descura
(Witch's Staff)
Strike with a quick close-range Attack, or long-range Specials and (Magic) Moves. Default weapon
Lim and Oros
(Sister Blades)
Slash with furious Attacks, or strike from afar with a flurry of Specials. 1 Silver
Ygnium
(Umbral Flames)
Launch damaging ranged Attacks as you move, or Specials that orbit around you. 3 Silver
3 Cinder
Zorephet
(Moonstone Axe)
Deliver slow but devastating Attacks, or defend and retaliate with your Specials. 15 Silver
Revaal
(Argent Skull)
Blast foes with explosive Attacks, and retrieve the Shells with lunging Specials. 2 Glassrock
1 Bronze
Xinth
(Black Coat)
Use your fists to soften enemies up, or guard then retaliate against attacks. Hold the Special attack for homing missiles. 2 Cinder, 2 Adamant (Available after crafting Revaal)

You can view the first four weapons in the list right from the start. But from what I can tell, the Argent Skull won't become unlockable until you progress far enough into the game. You may need to pass through the wards opposite your usual exit for the first time, as that's where you'll find the ingredients needed to get it summoned.

Either way, keep progressing, and soon it should appear in the list of Nocturnal Arms.

How to get weapon unlock materials in Hades 2

To begin unlocking weapons in Hades 2, you first need to get the Crescent Pick. It's easy enough to do; in the same place you unlock weapons, change to the 'Gathering Tools' tab. The Crescent Pick can be unlocked from that menu for a mere 1 Ashes. Unlock the pick and get it equipped, then leave the Crossroads and make your way down. You should find a stone covered in glittering, silver crescent moons almost right away:

Silver ore gives you three Silver each, which is more than enough to unlock arguably the best weapon in the game: the Sister Blades. Fifteen Silver will unlock the Moonstone Axe, which hits like a truck.

How to get other materials

  • Cinder is awarded by defeating Headmistress Hecate, the Guardian of Erebus. You need 3 Cinder and 3 Silver to unlock the Umbral Flames weapon.
  • Glassrock (called G. Rock in-game) can be found in the third area, the Fields of Mourning. Look for large, black stone.
  • Once you're able to get through the wards, you can find the second material needed to unlock the Argent Skull. Bring the Crescent Pick and search for Bronze in the shape of a pile of what looks like brown Greek armor.
  • Progress on the surface for long enough to reach Mount Olympus, where you can gather Adamant Ore with the Crescent Pick.

With all those materials gathered (and a bit of time), you should be able to unlock every weapon in of Hades 2.

All gods in hades 2 listed

The Greek Pantheon is massive, and the original Hades gave its famous (and infamous) gods and goddesses a fresh, new take. Its sequel reintroduces quite a few, but not all. However, Hades 2 makes up for the difference with new gods. Here are all the gods in Hades 2, listed.

There are many gods and goddesses in Hades 2. Most of them are fairly well known, and a sizable amount will be familiar to those who played the original. Some are sadly missing from the sequel, but the fresh cast members may soon become new favorites. We will also be including Titans in the mix, as they predate the gods of Olympus.

Some of the gods in Hades 2 don't arrive until you make significant progress in the game and story. With that in mind, I'll consider them 'spoilers' and put them near the bottom of the list. Scroll with care.

Deity Description
Melinoë Daughter of Hades and Persephone, goddess of darkness, and Princess of the Underworld. The main character of Hades 2. Learn more about her here.
Hecate Headmistress Hecate is the teacher of Melinoë and the titaness of magic and witchcraft.
Chronos Titan of time and the main antagonist of Hades 2.
Apollo God of the sun, music, dance, and healing.
Moros Doom incarnate, brother to the Fates, and son of Nyx.
Selene Titaness and the goddess/personification of the moon.
Nemesis Goddess of retribution, daughter of Nyx.
Hestia Goddess of the hearth.
Hephaestus God of blacksmithing, carpentry, metallurgy, and volcanoes.
Aphrodite Goddess of love and beauty.
Zeus King of the Olympian gods, god of lightning, thunder, and the sky.
Poseidon God of the sea and earthquakes.
Demeter Goddess of the harvest.
Charon The ferryman of the underworld, son of Nyx.
Hermes Herald of the gods.
Hypnos God of sleep, son of Nyx.
Artemis Goddess of the hunt, chastity, and vegetation.
Eris Goddess and the personification of strife, daughter of Nyx.
Hades God of the underworld.
Hera Queen of the Olympian gods, and goddess of lawful marriage.
Primordial Chaos The originator/creator.
Heracles Demigod, son of Zeus.
Prometheus Titan of foresight, punished by the gods after giving mankind the gift of fire.
Athena Goddess of warfare, wisdom, and handicraft.
Dionysus God of wine, winemaking, festivals, and ecstasy.

These are the gods we've found so far, although with the game as big and sprawling as it is, there may be more yet to be found as secrets or as part of the game's daunting 100% completion. Keep your eyes peeled and let us know if we're missing any.

The original Hades is the first game of its kind that I ever played, and I don't think it's any coincidence that action roguelikes have begun popping up all over Steam since its popular release several years ago. It's considered an all-time classic—and rightfully so.

But now, Hades 2 is here to raise the bar yet again. The people at Supergiant Games have now proven to be masters of their craft, and fans of the genre are in for a treat whether they bought into early access or are picking it up for the first time now that 1.0 has launched.

2 Fast 2 Hades

Hades 2 gameplay

Hades 2 is similar to the original game in that it's a whole lot more of the same gameplay formula, but more refined in just about every way. I bought it on Steam early access when it launched in May 2024, but decided then that I wanted to wait until the game was fully out. That day is here, and I couldn't be more pleased with my decision.

The sequel ups the ante with better boons, more interesting weapons, and unique biomes to traverse through each night as you slowly grow in power, gain abilities, and master each boss battle until you can clear them with ease.

Looking back through different early access update notes, it's clear that Supergiant used the game's early access period to improve and iterate with each patch, helping to bring this game to its maximum potential, just like the first title. Hades 2's new characters and their unique boons are fun, and mixing and matching different powers to find the perfect combo for your equipped weapon and particular run is an unmatched feeling in the genre.

Similarly though, Hades 2 suffers the same fate as the original, where re-playing the first few biomes over and over again can become mundane, but changing up weapons, getting different boons from different gods, and just enjoying the incredibly satisfying combat along the way largely mitigates this.

Stop, collaborate, and listen

In Hades 2, Hades 1's hero Zagreus is succeeded as the protagonist by his younger sister, Melinoë, as the Titan Chronos has taken control of the underworld and kidnapped her family (including Zagreus, Persephone, and Hades himself). Thus, the stage is set for the game's many events and twists as she must descend back into hell to try and reclaim her family's throne.

Chronos is as imposing a force in Hades 2 as any of the series' characters from the pantheon, and Melinoë brings something new to the table as the youthful witch-like princess of the underworld, offering a big change of pace from Zagreus's snark.

The high-octane gameplay of Hades 2 is slowed by fun dialogue as the gods offer you new powers and abilities, and I don't mind it one bit. Fans will have their favorites among these gods and figures. I do think I enjoy the banter between Zagreus and the gods in Hades 1 a bit more compared to Melinoë's respectful nature in this game, but every conversation is expertly acted and worth a listen, even as you're jamming your way through each night's encounters.

The pull of Hades 2 is your sense of progression as you make it a bit further in each run, but even if you fail earlier than you may have liked, there's fun to be had in listening to Melinoë's talks with mythological figures, collecting crafting materials or currency, or just learning mechanics.

One of the other main differences between Zagreus and Melinoë is that Hades 2's star uses Magicka (mana points) for several of her attacks, and depending on the weapon, an entire build can be crafted around this resource, making for even deeper gameplay than before.

Hades 2 on Switch 2 is 2 Pretty

Hades 2 gameplay

Nintendo sent me the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game, and it immediately became the best game I own on the new console. This game is stunning, and the Switch 2's hardware flexes Supergiant's gorgeous art style with 120 FPS in docked mode or 60 FPS in handheld mode. No matter how you play it, it's a joy to look at.

One of my favorite features, though, is the addition of cross-saves between the Switch 2 and PC. I was able to connect my Steam account and use my PC's cloud save to pick up where I left off last year (I also started a new file to refresh my memory), and that is just awesome.

This means that even players who own the game on PC may want to pick it up on Switch or Switch 2 to continue their saves on the go (it also runs well on Steam Deck if that's your thing), and judging by this title's quality, I expect many will purchase it multiple times across different platforms to continue their fun no matter where they are.

Just like its predecessors, Hades 2 is a perfect game for the Switch 2. In just about a week of hands-on time with the 1.0 release, it's become my most-played game on Nintendo's new console in its three-plus months since release, and I don't see that changing any time soon with a couple dozen hours already invested. At $30, this game is a steal.

Multiple retailers in the U.S., Australia, and Oceania are reportedly halting sales of Xbox Series S and X. Costco in New Zealand is clearing out its Xbox hardware stock. In the U.S., Sam's Club is no longer selling the console in its online store. Shoppers report that EB Games is doing the same in Australia.

Reports on Reddit show a Costco unit in New Zealand selling the Xbox Series X 1TB for half its original price, which is equivalent to $255 U.S. dollars. Earlier this month, several deal monitors spotted the same console at a clearance price of $369 at Sam's Club in the U.S., down from its original $499.

https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1np99za/costco_new_zealand_clearing_out_their_xbox_stock/

Xbox sales haven't been in good shape for a while. Estimates from VGChartz show it has a historical hardware market share of 12% (vs. PS5's 29% and Nintendo Switch 1's 56%, in units sold), with sales dropping in half since the first console price hike in May 2025. A second price hike in the U.S. is coming on Oct. 3, which will take the Series X 1TB to $649.99 and make the Series S 512GB the cheapest unit at $399. If sales trends follow those of the first price hike, sales should drop further in October, which would make stocking the console not worth the investment to retailers.

Low historical hardware sales, paired with a second price hike that Microsoft blames on "changes in the macroeconomic environment," are likely making these stores pivot away from Xbox. Destructoid has reached out to Sam's Club for comment, while a Costco store in the U.K. confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz they're no longer selling Xbox consoles.

Microsoft has pivoted away from gaming hardware and towards Game Pass for years. The Game Pass catalogue is growing and getting more relevant games on the day of their release, like Palworld in early access and the 2025 indie hit Hollow Knight: Silksong. But in the hardware front, Microsoft's latest investment was in a partnership with Republic of Gamers, which led to the release of the handheld ROG Xbox Ally X. Microsoft seems more interested in partnering with third parties to release hardware than working on new proprietary consoles.

Meanwhile, Microsoft's competitors only grow stronger. PS5 sales are stable despite the console suffering its own price hikes in 2025, and the Nintendo Switch 2 became the fastest-selling gaming hardware in U.S. history despite early stock issues that are now solved.

Now that retailers are responding to Microsoft's decisions on Xbox's new pricing, we should soon see how their decision to halt Xbox sales will affect the future of Xbox Series consoles and their successor, if there is any.

Ramza and Delita are visible against a white background

Somehow, I've never played Final Fantasy Tactics. It's surprising, as I'm a huge Tactics fan and even a massive Final Fantasy fan, but I didn't play the game on release, and it has consistently evaded me in the decades since.

But its influence has been palpable. FF Tactics has popped up in countless articles, recommendation lists, and as an influence for so many titles I adore. Finally, I understand why. Now, for a newcomer, does this title live up to the monumental expectation?

Putting the square in Square Enix

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is a modern repackage of the 1997 PS1 title, Final Fantasy Tactics. Importantly, while it takes some of the script from the 2007 PSP port, known as The War of the Lions, it does not feature all of the additional content from that port. But the conveniences and flourishes added for this version make that omission worthwhile.

As a Final Fantasy spin-off, Tactics spreads the action over a grid-based battlefield. Attacks must consider the angle, the height, and the position of both characters, and moves like magical attacks must even consider the areas surrounding the intended target. Get your Black Mage to cast Firaga, and the attack not only hits the square occupied by your opponent, but also the four tiles immediately connected to the recipient. This sort of nuance is what makes combat excel, but also introduces a multitude of new difficulties that take effort to master. Thankfully, there are many new features here to make your life easier.

This release is split into two distinct versions. A 'Classic' version of Final Fantasy Tactics, with the same gameplay, pixel-visuals, and aspect ratio of the PS1 original. Then, there's The Ivalice Chronicles, the official name for this modern remaster. The latter version is the one with the 'updated' visuals, voice acting, gameplay changes, and UI enhancements. Most people will likely want to jump into the newer version as many small changes streamline gameplay, while other additions elevate the game's wonderful story.

Tactics tells a truly moving tale

Characters gather round an elderly character in a bed

In FFT, you play as Ramza, a young noble caught in the midst of a war between nations. The larger narrative is fairly interesting, but it's the intricacies that work the most for me. Well-written dialogue reveals the greater themes of classism, the corruption of power, and exploitation. Alongside all of the Chocobos and monsters is a very real story.

I also love how seriously this narrative is taken and the several gut-wrenching emotional beats. One thing I always enjoy about tactical games is how every movement and every attack is consequential. Here, the combat feels like a microcosm of the greater political landscape. Movement requires planning, and attacks require counters. It makes those inevitable emotional knife-twists all the more painful, and boy, does FFT have a few of those.

There are two things that elevate the emotional story. The first is the borderline perfect score, which is lifted wholesale from the original and is just sublime. The second of which is the phenomenal voice acting. With a world stuffed with difficult fantasy words and some lofty concepts, it's heartening to hear the script delivered with consistent clarity and respect. The work of the entire voice cast kept me engaged, particularly the standout work of Joe Pitts as Ramza.

Whether lecturing evildoers, negotiating with sellswords, or screaming out in agony, Pitts throws it all out there, imbuing Ramza with both a fierce energy and an emotional vulnerability. It's an impressive performance that anchors the story around it. Gregg Lowe as Delita is similarly impressive, as are other actors such as Hannah Melbourn as Agrias, House of the Dragon's Emily Carey as Alma, and, of course, FFXVI's very own Ben Starr, here playing Dycedarg. The voice acting is a big change, but it has been executed well. It feels like this remake/remaster has been treated with reverence at every opportunity.

Importantly, FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles is directed by Kazutoyo Maehiro, possibly best known for their work as Creative Director on FF XVI, and Main Scenario Writer for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and Heavensward. Considering they worked on the original PS1 release of Final Fantasy Tactics, this project feels like a labor of love, while the years of subsequent experience seem to inform the smart combat changes.

Old game, new feel

A character holds back another character from fighting

On combat, after playing so many tactics games (Triangle Strategy, Into The Breach, Fire Emblem), it's astonishing how fully formed Final Fantasy Tactics is. Placement is utterly essential, as is avoiding getting swamped, and learning to corner foes. If Ramza or other key characters get knocked down, you have three rounds until they die, and you hit Game Over. It's tough, but using your jobs and abilities to augment these moves feels immensely satisfying, and the difficulty ramps up nicely alongside your skills.

One of the standout characteristics of Final Fantasy Tactics is the in-depth job system. While you start as a Squire with standard attacks, eventually you can change to a Knight, an Archer, or a magic user like the Black Mage. Every job offers unique attacks that change how you interact with the landscape, and it feels great to earn JP, unlock attacks, and explore the multiple job options and combinations. Not every job is as interesting as others, but the amount of choices means you're rarely left wanting. You'll be grinding quite a lot just to try Jobs out, but thankfully, battles are a lot quicker.

A top-down view shows a battle on a grid
Image via Square Enix

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Invalice Chronicles adds essential improvements, such as auto-battle and fast-forward, though annoyingly fast-forward requires you to keep a button pressed in, while I would really prefer to select a fast-forward option and sit back. You can also now see the turn order on screen at all times to better plan your attacks.

There's also the fantastic 'tactical view' which gives you an aerial glance, making it much easier to parse unit locations among obstacles and sheer surfaces. You are still restricted to one of four (NESW) views in regular combat, and you can't select units or attacks while in the aerial mode, so while this top-down view is great, the options could still be improved.

Finally, I just don't love the new visuals. The 'pixel-smoothing' effect on display in The Invalice Chronicles makes things somewhat easier to read, but when playing the Classic mode, I just adore the accurate pixels. Considering I prefer the gameplay changes and voice acting in the newer mode, it's annoying that players can't choose between the two art styles. I understand they are almost two different games, but it's a tough pill to swallow.

A top-down view shows a battle on a grid
Image via Square Enix

Similarly, I find a lot of the presentation in The Invalice Chronicles quite flat. Backgrounds are often just plain colours, and there's little done with lighting or particles to accentuate the presentation. Games like Triangle Strategy show what is possible while still working with pixels, and here, while I liked the art, I found myself wishing for a little more.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Invalice Chronicles feels fresh and modern even today, a testament to the strength of the original and the few smart changes added in this revisit. Timely themes of classism and empires feel just as emotionally resonant as ever, but uplifted by the strength of a truly impressive voice cast. The only thing holding it back is the 'new' art style and flat visuals, which, while serviceable, feel occasionally dull and uninspired. Still, The Ivalice Chronicles proves why this classic is so revered, and the additions mean it has never been better.
