Nor is the game's steel-jawed space flea protagonist, Captain Awkney Relinrake, directly inspired by Buzz Lightyear. Instead, he channels the stately, swaggering Englishness of Jean Luc Picard and Richard Sharpe, aka Napoleonic Sean Bean. This last revelation slightly disappoints me, in that Relinrake seems a bit ridiculous, with eyebrows the size of aviation flaps, and I'd like the game to own that humour in a more obviously Toy Story-ish way. When you're playing a great Atelier series game, things all seem to fall into place. It's cohesive. There's fantastic character development, with relationships that naturally develop between characters as they work alongside each other or the protagonist helps allies out. Environments can look good, with gathering spots feeling like natural outcroppings and points. You can easily find a good sense of flow. Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian doesn't offer much of that, especially after excellent entries like the Ryza trilogy, and it looks both cheap and dated on the Switch.
Like installments such as Atelier Escha & Logy, Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian features dual protagonists. One is the more action-oriented male avatar Slade, while the other is the alchemist heroine Rias. Both routes result in them meeting up near immediately, and the nature of the story means there isn't too much divergence in the plot. This isn't like Atelier Shallie where there's a big difference in the introductory lead-up. Both of them want to investigate what happened to Hallfien and their family members 12 years ago, while restoring the town to its former glory. However, choosing Rias doesn't mean less alchemy or shop management and picking Slade doesn't result in more exploration and combat. In both cases, you'll be looking into the Legend of Kerschal's alchemist and Baptism of Ruin.
I'm not the biggest fan of Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian's story, mainly due to the pacing feeling off. It is one of those games that "tells" you, rather than "shows" you when things happen. The moment Rias and Slade meet, they're determined to be behaving similar enough that they seem like they've "known each other forever" and there are already hints they are a canon couple and have feelings for each other in a matter of days. We're told El is a remarkable and intelligent researcher, but it takes time for that to be seen and established. Considering what we know about characters like Ayesha from her past games, I felt it a bit odd for her right away to know about Wanderers and dimensional paths and be our first introduction to it. (It isn't bad, but her immediately explanation made me go, "Huh.") In games like the Atelier Ryza trilogy and the more recent Atelier Yumia, there's some great character and plot development, and I feel like this entry is a step back from that. Especially with existing characters, as I sometimes felt like the developers took advantage of the fact that we, the players, already knew them and didn't feel the need to add as much narrative backing to develop them here.
Things feeling rather perfunctory and rushed come up with the gameplay loop as well. I came away with the distinct impression that there was too little focus on each one, leading to none feeling really satisfying. When you unlock a Dimensional Path, you go into a dungeon with multiple floors and can end up winding a new location in Lantarna. There are some progression elements tied to characters, such as Rias swinging with a sort of grappling hook over gaps or to a higher ledge or Slade busting through a wall. They feel more gimmicky than the natural exploration elements of Ryza climbing, crawling through gaps, and swimming or Yumia shooting a gun to drop a ladder. The scattering and gathering of materials around this area makes them feel haphazard too. While in other games, finding items feels like collecting them in natural environments, here there are these flashing, incredibly obvious outcroppings. In Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian on the Switch, the lighting effects and textures used are so bad that it makes it seem like even more egregious and obvious "drops" that ruin any sense of immersion. When Rias or Slade move around an area, the execution and lighting made me feel like it looked more like they were running slightly above the ground. Not to mention when it suddenly "transforms" from day to night, there's no gradual change. There's an abrupt animation that goes from full-on daytime to sudden pitch-black evening.

Speaking of lighting and texture, every location in Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian on the Switch looks bad and dated. The only exceptions are a few indoor spaces such as the shop in Hallfien and atelier. Textures don't look right and are blurry. Lighting is weird, so shadows don't fall naturally or where you'd expect. Character models look incredibly blurry for allies, NPCs, and enemies, and they move awkwardly as well. Nothing looks fluid. I played on a Switch OLED primarily in handheld mode, and it did not look like 720p. Atelier Ryza and even Yumia looked better and clearer.
While in the field, it's possible to happen upon enemies. This leads to turn-based battles. Three allies can be in the party, with three in the rear row. A timeline on the left shows who will attack and when, with possible advantageous effects around to be "stolen" away from enemies by strategically attacking in such a way that action order shifts so an ally gets it instead. It's also possible, with larger enemies, to break them in such a way that combo attacks can be executed. While I did prefer combat systems from Atelier Ryza and Yumia, this isn't bad. It can feel a bit simplistic at times, again. Also, I do suspect the fights would be speedier and combos would be more impressive on a platform other than the Switch.

![]()

However, yet again, I did experience issues in Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian on the Switch with these fights. One involved enemies not reacting with an animation after being hit immediately, so there's this odd pause before the clip plays that leads into the fight. Another seemed like an odd glitch where, when I only had access to Rias, Slade, and Raze and put all three in the front row to be active, I might enter a fight and find only one of them was there and the other two somehow got relegated to the back. The first two times this happened, it was in the initial ruins and first dimensional path. I swapped characters for actions, and then when I went into a fight only that active person was in the front row. I needed to go into the menu after the fact to put people back in the right positions. As an aside, the menu for Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian on the Switch has its own issues, with there being a delay as you move between tabs after bringing up the main menu.
The alchemy and shop management systems also feel rather rudimentary compared to past games. In games like Atelier Ryza, it feels like there's a lot of thought that goes into it and like we needed to consider placement of materials. This goes for many other mainline installments. Here, there's a domino effect. Every ingredient has a consists of colors on either side, and you match each end to another of the same color for optimization purposes when you complete a synthesis. You can also add extra items for effects. It is fine, but I feel like it involves lower effort than in the past. Likewise, when placing things in the shop, you are encouraged to use that same domino effect element to boost sales. You also set the three fairies found on a first Dimension Path excursion as managing different areas. So it isn't as involved as a true shopkeeping simulation like, say, Recettear. The town development is similarly bland. It's okay and does offer an excuse to keep exploring and experimenting, since you get new synthesis recipes and progress as a result, but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I did managing my Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma villages. It is good to get item level buffs, quests, and shops as things rank up, and I liked seeing visitors from past games, but I wish there'd been more to it.

Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian feels like a simpler, stripped back take on the series and looks bad on the Switch. It might be more tolerable and entertaining on the PS5 or PC? I didn't feel the same connections to characters, even though I loved some of them in other games. It feels especially cheap after going through more robust entries like Atelier Ryza 3 and Atelier Yumia. If you really love the series, you might still enjoy it due to the cameos, combat, or its relatively simple nature, but I strongly recommend avoiding the Switch release.
Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian will come to the Switch, PS5, and PC on September 26, 2025.

Sitting and watching last night's State of Play was wild, not because we finally got a glimpse of Wolverine or because of the numerous excellent new titles that were shown. No. It was the announcement of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 for PS5 and PSVR2, which was the most shocking moment of the entire night.
This isn't the first Xbox title to make its way to PlayStation 5 in recent years; we have seen many other titles that were once Xbox exclusives now appear on PS5 and even Switch. Still, the idea of seeing a game with Microsoft's name on it featuring a PS5 logo was one of the more interesting moments to come out of the whole presentation.
On the one hand, Microsoft will be pleased to see the excitement surrounding the game on PS5, as evident from the comments section on YouTube's PS5 trailer. Most are even calling it the definitive way to play on console, thanks to the VR support. But you also have to wonder, is this the point where Xbox should pivot away from making consoles altogether, when it is already pushing the Xbox brand onto any device, from TVs to smartphones?
Xbox recently announced its second price hike for all Xbox systems this year, prompting some retailers to give up on the consoles altogether and sell them at massive discounts to clear their stock. And with most of its first-party lineup now on other systems, the idea that you need to own an Xbox to play these games is long gone.
So real talk. Destructoid faithful. Should Xbox give up making new consoles and being a first-party studio and pivot to being one of the biggest, if not the biggest, third-party studios of all time? Or should it continue to release its games as timed exclusives on its own platforms before slowly releasing them on other devices?
There are arguments for both, but with everything that has been going on with the Xbox brand these past few years and the direction the company appears to be going, whether through Microsoft's influence or not, where do you think Xbox is going, and what do you think will happen?
For me. It's hard to say. I feel like the death knell for Xbox would be seeing Halo appear on Switch 2 and PS5. If Xbox's biggest first-console mascot is no longer tied to the Xbox brand, then what is sacred to the platform anymore? Once you start that process and put it into people's minds that they can play your games anywhere, even if they have to wait a little longer to do so, the reason to buy an Xbox and justify the purchase really does get thrown out the window.
But what do you think? Let me know in the comments below!

Wondering about the best units in Anime Chefs? Let's take a look at their abilities since I'll list all units and then rank them over the weekend for a tier list on Monday/Tuesday 29th/30th. Each one is all about movement speed, cutting or other special for higher ranked units. Here are all Anime Chefs Units and abilities listed.

All Unit Abilities in Anime Chefs

Below you'll find all units in Anime Chefs with their rarities and abilities. Commons usually have a small passive boost to movement speed, cutting and throwing. Rares have multiple while Epics have passive boosts and a special passive too. Legendaries usually have much more powerful unique passives and Mythics have active abilities that help you with moving, cooking, serving, etc. Here are all units, then their abilities and you can expect a tier list on Monday:
Anime Chefs Unit Tier List (Pre-Release)
This isn't the full Anime Chefs tier list and instead just brief comments about the current EA state of the game (The full one will be on Monday/Tuesday 29th/30th). So far it seems that Common and Rare units cannot compete with the unique abilities that higher rarities get. From Epic to Mythic you can slow down meat burn speed or teleport or basically pause time to catch up. That's why the best units in Anime Chefs are usually in the higher rarities. Here's an early incomplete tier list for now:

To get your Anime Chefs cooking career started in style I've prepared a list of useful links on everything about the game:
There's currently no Trello out yet but there have been requests on Discord and if I were to guess there might be one down the line. Until then, the Wiki is the best place to check out the content in the game. It has info on:
The game has a standard Gacha banner system for pulling units so you can browse around Discord for community tier lists. You can also organize teams there for challenges and tournaments. There's also Raids, PVP, Quests, Crate lootboxes and more.
That said the Discord is also a place to track announcements and updates. For a unit-based game there's bound to be buffs, nerfs and reworks as well as new unit announcements. It's also where you can get the latest codes along with our AC codes link below where we'll update them regularly.

FC 26 players have run into a pickle ahead of the full launch on Sept. 26, as Ultimate Team users are currently unable to find opponents.
The problem has existed sporadically since early access began on Sept. 19. However, it now appears to be much more universal. Players worldwide have reported issues, and EA Sports has acknowledged the problem.
There's a temporary workaround while we all wait for a permanent fix. While it doesn't always work, it could somewhat ease your pain.
FC 26 Unable to find opponent bug fix
The "Unable to find opponent" situation typically occurs when no rival players are available in matchmaking. As of Sept. 25, here are the modes in Ultimate Team currently affected by it.
When I tested the situation, Friendlies appeared to work if you played with a friend. Squad Battles also don't have any issues (the same goes for Moments), as you'll be going up against AI.
So, how do you fix the problem, as EA Sports takes care of things? The only successful method I found was disabling the crossplay option from matchmaking. You can do so from the in-game settings since crossplay is always turned on by default.
This is the only known way I have been able to find games when I keep getting the "Unable to find opponents" situation during matchmaking. Once again, this method can help you with the bug if your opponent has their crossplay disabled and on the same platform.
Sadly, such workarounds can't always help. If the servers also don't have enough players available in matchmaking, you will be unable to find an opponent. Alternatively, if you're still desperate to play Ultimate Team, it's safe to try out the Squad Battles mode, which is excellent for grinding to complete objectives and earn rewards.

The Vampire Survivors and Risk of Rain hybrid, Megabonk, has a ton of characters and items you can use and find to survive the never-ending onslaught. However, much like those two games, things have a tendency of getting OP really fast.
Combing by most super powerful items in the game is quite easy, much easier than in, say, Risk of Rain 2, where RNG can really break a run before it's even started. In Megabonk, on the other hand, I've managed to craft three quick and easy-to-get builds that should get you through most of the game, if it doesn't crash from all the effects covering your entire screen.
Table of contents
The best Megabonk builds
SWORD
![]()
This is by far the simplest of all the builds on this list, but is nevertheless powerful enough to clear any given zone under the right circumstances. Keep in mind, things will depend a bit on RNG, but attaining these items should secure your run's prospects super early:
This build, as the name implies, heavily relies on your Sword, which is why we've chosen Sir Oofie for it. He starts with the Sword and can start leveling it immediately. Focus on gaining more and more projectiles for the sword (and the other weapons), while increasing knockback, size, and damage it does. After several upgrades, you should have so many sword swipes covring such a large area that standing and doing nothing will become a viable strategy.
If you wish to achieve the latter as fast as possible, try to find the Idle Juice, which can double your damage so long as you're standing still. Shield Tome can also come in handy instead of Quantity or Size Tomes (or alongside them, if you have extra Tome space) enabling you to just stand and watch everything around you die. Even if they do get close, they'll be reflected by Aegis, Chunkers, and Mirror, making you nigh-immortal.
Bullet Hell
![]()
This build prioritizes projectile quantity and bounces, with a single shot cleaving through several enemies with ease. It does require a lot of damage, meaning you'll have to pursue charge-up shrines and pray you get damage boosts. Even if you don't get too many damage upgrades, the sheer number of bullets will make quick work of most enemy groups, but you could face trouble against single targets like bosses.
With this build, the majority of the screen will be covered in projectiles of all kinds, turning your game into pure chaos. Most enemies should die instantly, and with so many projectiles running around, piercing and bouncing and hitting multiple enemies at once, you should have very few opponents walking toward you at any given time.
The items I've recommended all increase your damage, which should be a number one priority aside from attack speed and projectile count, as it'll help you with boss fights where single enemies can have millions of HP. Crit chance and critical damage increases also help a ton, so you should pay attention to grabbing those if possible.
One Lucky Fox
![]()
This build is highly unconventional, as it relies on the innate ability of Fox. He gains Luck with each level, which can be further increased via passive upgrades. This build, therefore, is based on Luck and only on Luck, and can be significantly altered with RNG.
The items you will need are the Clover and Luck Tome, the latter can be a bit harder to come by as it's based on... luck and drop rates. Anyhow, prioritize leveling up as much as possible at first, only boosting Fox's starting weapon and maybe adding the Lightning Staff as well. Those two should serve you well, while I do recommend getting Crit Chance if you happen to see it.
Once you've leveled up a lot, you can start visiting Shrines and Vendors, which the increased Luck stat will substantially improve. Every chest should have a hugely improved chance to drop you something super powerful. Giant Fork is one example, giving Critical Strikes a chance to Critically Strike and become Megacrits (good if you went down that route); Overpowered Lamp is another, making on-hit effects proc twice; Big Bonk gives a chance for a x20 multiplier on attacks, and so on.
While these items can drop on their own, Fox has the greatest odds of getting them in the game, gaining Luck passively as well as through charge-up Shrines and items. With these rare items, you'll have literally no way of losing, especially if you get multiple and have a lot of attack speed and projectiles to roll them constantly.

The Bundled Up badge is the latest addition to PEAK, and completing the achievement can be slightly tricky.
While added as part of the latest mini-update (on Sept. 24), it's not directly related to the Dillydallying activities you can enjoy at the Airport. Instead, you'll have to get past the Alpine level while meeting certain additional restrictions.
This guide will help you unlock the badge completed by the fewest players (as of Sept. 25).
How to obtain the Bundled Up badge in PEAK
Unlike certain badges in the game, Bundled Up's description states clearly what you need to do.
It's similar to another badge added in the Mesa update, which requires players not to take over 20% heat damage. While it sounds easy, getting to the top of the Alpine biome while taking 19% or less cold damage is tricky. There are a few strategies to remember.
![]()
That's pretty much all you need to do to survive and obtain the Bundled Up badge inside the game. The badge will help you get the Ice Climber outfit, and the cosmetics are available in two shades.
