Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, September 25, 2025 12:41 PM ![]() Vroom. Vroom vroom. Vroom vroom vroom. Ahem, sorry, dunno what happened to me there. Assetto Corsa EVO, the three-letter-yelling follow up to one on Steam's long-reigning top racing sims, has just gotten its third early access update. It adds in online multiplayer, plus a bunch of fresh cars and tracks to hop into moments before you're unceremoniously punted off by a random. I've been playing a bit of a waiting game with AC EVO since yapping about it at length for my old home when it first debuted in early access at the start of this year, but this might be the point I hop behind its wheel agaion and see how devs Kunos Simulazioni have managed to flesh it out so far. After all, they've now added in a 90s Merc 190E, which is pretty much square German saloon kryptonite for my will to hold off on checking things out. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, September 25, 2025 12:13 PM ![]() Tasty-looking space games fill the atmosphere nowadays like satellite launch debris, but perhaps you'll find room in your weirdly adapted magnetic fishing net for one more - Kaigan's Nullspace. I came across it in yesterday's Indie Fan Fest stream, and I quite like the cut of its torpedo bays. Nullspace grabs me for a couple of reasons. One is its "retrofuturistic universe", which strikes me as both sleek and cosy. It's kind of chibi Homeworld. The kitbashed ships come alive with swivelling turrets and manoeuvring jets, but something about the way they're proportioned, patterned and lit also makes me think of freshly piped cake icing. I also quite like the Star Fox-style jabbering heads of unit commanders in the bottom corner. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, September 25, 2025 11:29 AM ![]() A year on from its debut, would-be challenger to Civ's 4X strategy throne Ara: History Untold has gotten what looks like its most substantial overhaul yet. So substantial that its developers are hailing this Revolutions update as the arrival of Ara version 2.0, in the same tone of voice you might use for someone who's gotten a swanky new hairdo. While the base version had a fair few hangups, the Xbox folks who're keen to see Ara stand the test of time have pushed plenty of updates and tweaks for it since then. Current developers Stardock Entertainment and Oxide Games, aimed to wipe out a number of the biggest gripes earlier this year, and this latest update aims for plenty of further refinement. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, September 25, 2025 10:31 AM ![]() A former developer on massive Elder Scrolls mod project Skyblivion who called its current 2025 release goal "unachievable" has suggested March 2026 as a "fitting" release window for the task of remaking Oblivion in Skyrim's engine. Around the time of the mod's most recent showcase, ex-Skyblivion level and world designer Dee Keyes put out a tweet accusing its project lead and implementation lead of rushing the mod out the door to meet a 2025 release goal that Keyes dubbed "pointless and unachievable". The modder also accused the pair of mismanaging the project by not keeping up communication between leads and other developers in terms of key decisions. Keyes' claims and very public split from the Skyblivion team naturally led to questions being asked of the remaining Skyblivion devs, with the mod's comms lead telling fans: "Our aim is that it will be by the end of the year, if we as a team decide that it isn't we will be sure to share that." |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, September 25, 2025 9:47 AM ![]() Firaxis and 2K Games are working on a Civilization 7 update that revamps the game's map generation, while adding a couple of city states and rounding out Napoleon's skillset. It's slated to land sometime in the week of September 29th. Why am I writing about it right now? Because senior graphics engineer Ken Pruiksma has just posted a little blog about the intricacies of strategy game map generation that caused Beethoven's Ode To Joy to play tinnily in my head. This is almost certainly a reflection of emotional diarrhea brought on by minor insomnia brought on by a nagging foot injury. Still, there's something... uplifting about the motions of plate tectonics as approximated by computer code. Perhaps you, kind stranger, will be similarly moved. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, September 25, 2025 7:10 AM ![]() Bruce Lee is in Hitman now. Unfortunately, you don't get to play as him. Fortunately, you do not have to fight him. Oh, don't look at me like that, Agent 47. You might be the last word in swatting people with Wet Floor signs, but I've yet to see you perform a credible one-inch punch. Perhaps you'd get the drop on Bruce Lee if you threw up on him after swallowing an irradiated carbon rod, but I don't fancy your chances in the context of a proper Bangkok martial arts tournament - like the one depicted in Hitman's latest Elusive Target mission, the Dragon. Here be trailer. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, September 25, 2025 6:28 AM ![]() After claiming they've invented "the most dangerous ring in gaming" earlier this month, EA and DICE have released a fresh Battlefield 6 campaign trailer that sees a soldier bloke deploy yet another 'the most something in something' line. Yep, amid a bunch of the usual militarying about, a man teases a battle over "the most strategic rock in the history of warfare". Maybe it's just because there was far less helicopter boomage in this look at the conflict between Dagger 13 and evil private goons Pax Armata, but the line's struck me. Stop shouting about the CIA for five minutes, Battlefield trailerfolk, we need to delve into rock history. |

We first learned about the Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct, and now a new, extended TGS 2025 trailer with more insights into changes and updates appeared. During it, Director Makoto Shibata acts as a narrator explaining the decisions made during development.
The video begins with Shibata talking about some of the more obvious changes. These are the improved audio and visual elements compared to the original game. He noted special processing is used to ensure proper details are showcased on character's clothing, and sound is layered to help with otherworldly effects. There is 7.1.4 audio support in this entry.
As for gameplay, Shibata went into how the Camera Obscura works in the remake. He noted the core elements remain the same. However, he said there will be new focus and zoom filters to help with perspective and dealing damage to ghosts. There will also be more places to explore and find spirits.
Finally, Shibata referenced a new action that can be used involving the twin sisters Mio and Mayu. At certain points, you can choose to hold hands with her while exploring. He noted this was something the team wanted to do in the original, but couldn't, and brought it up as an option with the remake.
Here's the full Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake TGS 2025 trailer with Director Makoto Shibata.
Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake will come to the Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in early 2026. The original game is available on the PS2 and Xbox worldwide, and a Wii Edition remake showed up in Japan.

Team Ninja, PlatinumGames, and Koei Tecmo confirmed four difficulty options for Ninja Gaiden 4. Hero is the easiest and is available alongside Normal and Hard when the game begins. Master Ninja is the hardest and needs to be unlocked by completing Story Mode. It also explained unique features for both Hero and Master Ninja.
Team Ninja and PlatinumGames noted that Hero is designed for Ninja Gaiden 4 newcomers and is the difficulty option that includes the most accessibility options. It is the only one with Auto Assist, Auto Block, and Auto Evade that automatically engage in those actions and shows cues to teach a person when they should act. It is also possible to turn those features off or on at any time at that level. Other accessibility options that can be enabled are Auto Heal and Auto Movement for platforming challenges.
As for Master Ninja, details about that Ninja Gaiden 4 difficulty level seemed focused on enemies. The standard and Enhanced D.D.O. soldiers appear right away and have more intelligent AI. There will also be greater numbers of enemies at checkpoints. Also, ahead of unlocking it, people can test out what it is like in their first Story Mode run by finding hidden Purgatory trials to see what it will feel like.
Here's the TGS 2025 "Ninja Gaiden 4 Difficulty Design" trailer.
Ninja Gaiden 4 will come to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 21, 2025.

At TGS 2025, Nexon shared a The First Descendant crossover reveal that confirmed Bayonetta would come to the game. As you might expect, this means cosmetics based on the heroine's outfit will be coming to the game. Those will show up on November 6, 2025.
The announcement trailer showed some of the cosmetics that will be part of this Bayonetta crossover. It seems some will be based on her original appearance, as a character appears fighting a boss in her black bodysuit with beehive hairstyle. There will also apparently be weapon skins to make guns match hers. Emotes are also confirmed, though we don't know exactly how all of those will look.
Here's the teaser for the crossover:
This Bayonetta announcement marks the second notable The First Descendant crossover in 2025. A NieR: Automata one appeared in August 2025. It involved 2B and A2 appearing in the game.
In case you missed that, here's how that looked:
The First Descendant is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Bayonetta crossover will show up in-game on November 6, 2025. The game is no longer available on the PS4 or Xbox One, as support ended for both consoles earlier in 2025. The most recent Bayonetta entry is Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon for the Switch.

As part of its TGS 2025 reveals, Square Enix showed off the actual Dragon Quest VII Reimagined dolls the developers created to scan and use as figure models for each of the party members in-game. In addition to a video showing the dolls being made, turned into models, and then shown in an event scene, those figures are on display at the event in Japan at the company's booth.
This trailer begins with concept art of the hero character. Then, we see the fully dressed doll made to resemble our avatar. We watch as someone carves out the bangs plate to put ahead of the face, then attach a hat. That figure is then shown alongside other named characters, like Kiefer, Maribel, and Ruff. From there, a person is shown taking photos and scans to create the CG recreation. Finally, we see the hero in-game.
Here's the full Dragon Quest VII Reimagined TGS 2025 trailer showing the making of each of these character figures.
Prior to this latest reveal, Square Enix offered another kind of insight into this remake. It shared screenshots offering direct comparisons of certain scenes in the PS1 and 3DS versions in the new take on the title. That announcement also included screenshots showing each ally in-game.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on February 5, 2026. It is also on the PS1 and 3DS worldwide.

It will be called The Sinister Broker Bazario's Schemes, and it will show up on all platforms sometime in December 2025. There's also a first trailer highlighting what to expect, but English subtitles aren't available for it yet.

Konami has shared the global release timings for the Fox Hunt multiplayer mode's availability in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The update will be available in the Americas on October 29, 2025, and the rest of the world on October 30, 2025.
The company has also factored in the daylight savings time shift in each region. By the time the Fox Hunt update comes out, Europe will have already ended daylight savings on October 26, 2025. However, North America will still remain in DST until November 2, 2025.
The exact times in the specified cities are as follows:
The official tweet is also available to view right below:
Konami had first revealed in August 2025 that it would release the Fox Hunt mode as a post-launch update to Metal Gear Solid Delta in Fall 2025. The confirmed release dates on October 29/30, 2025, would fit into the promised window. However, the company added a caveat that there would be no cross-play support between the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC versions.
The base Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater game is readily available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC since August 28, 2025. The Fox Hunt multiplayer mode update will arrive on October 29 or 30, 2025, depending on the region.

When you're playing a great Atelier series game, things all seem to fall into place. It's cohesive. There's fantastic character development, with relationships that naturally develop between characters as they work alongside each other or the protagonist helps allies out. Environments can look good, with gathering spots feeling like natural outcroppings and points. You can easily find a good sense of flow. Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian doesn't offer much of that, especially after excellent entries like the Ryza trilogy, and it looks both cheap and dated on the Switch.
Like installments such as Atelier Escha & Logy, Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian features dual protagonists. One is the more action-oriented male avatar Slade, while the other is the alchemist heroine Rias. Both routes result in them meeting up near immediately, and the nature of the story means there isn't too much divergence in the plot. This isn't like Atelier Shallie where there's a big difference in the introductory lead-up. Both of them want to investigate what happened to Hallfien and their family members 12 years ago, while restoring the town to its former glory. However, choosing Rias doesn't mean less alchemy or shop management and picking Slade doesn't result in more exploration and combat. In both cases, you'll be looking into the Legend of Kerschal's alchemist and Baptism of Ruin.
I'm not the biggest fan of Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian's story, mainly due to the pacing feeling off. It is one of those games that "tells" you, rather than "shows" you when things happen. The moment Rias and Slade meet, they're determined to be behaving similar enough that they seem like they've "known each other forever" and there are already hints they are a canon couple and have feelings for each other in a matter of days. We're told El is a remarkable and intelligent researcher, but it takes time for that to be seen and established. Considering what we know about characters like Ayesha from her past games, I felt it a bit odd for her right away to know about Wanderers and dimensional paths and be our first introduction to it. (It isn't bad, but her immediately explanation made me go, "Huh.") In games like the Atelier Ryza trilogy and the more recent Atelier Yumia, there's some great character and plot development, and I feel like this entry is a step back from that. Especially with existing characters, as I sometimes felt like the developers took advantage of the fact that we, the players, already knew them and didn't feel the need to add as much narrative backing to develop them here.
Things feeling rather perfunctory and rushed come up with the gameplay loop as well. I came away with the distinct impression that there was too little focus on each one, leading to none feeling really satisfying. When you unlock a Dimensional Path, you go into a dungeon with multiple floors and can end up winding a new location in Lantarna. There are some progression elements tied to characters, such as Rias swinging with a sort of grappling hook over gaps or to a higher ledge or Slade busting through a wall. They feel more gimmicky than the natural exploration elements of Ryza climbing, crawling through gaps, and swimming or Yumia shooting a gun to drop a ladder. The scattering and gathering of materials around this area makes them feel haphazard too. While in other games, finding items feels like collecting them in natural environments, here there are these flashing, incredibly obvious outcroppings. In Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian on the Switch, the lighting effects and textures used are so bad that it makes it seem like even more egregious and obvious "drops" that ruin any sense of immersion. When Rias or Slade move around an area, the execution and lighting made me feel like it looked more like they were running slightly above the ground. Not to mention when it suddenly "transforms" from day to night, there's no gradual change. There's an abrupt animation that goes from full-on daytime to sudden pitch-black evening.

Speaking of lighting and texture, every location in Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian on the Switch looks bad and dated. The only exceptions are a few indoor spaces such as the shop in Hallfien and atelier. Textures don't look right and are blurry. Lighting is weird, so shadows don't fall naturally or where you'd expect. Character models look incredibly blurry for allies, NPCs, and enemies, and they move awkwardly as well. Nothing looks fluid. I played on a Switch OLED primarily in handheld mode, and it did not look like 720p. Atelier Ryza and even Yumia looked better and clearer.
While in the field, it's possible to happen upon enemies. This leads to turn-based battles. Three allies can be in the party, with three in the rear row. A timeline on the left shows who will attack and when, with possible advantageous effects around to be "stolen" away from enemies by strategically attacking in such a way that action order shifts so an ally gets it instead. It's also possible, with larger enemies, to break them in such a way that combo attacks can be executed. While I did prefer combat systems from Atelier Ryza and Yumia, this isn't bad. It can feel a bit simplistic at times, again. Also, I do suspect the fights would be speedier and combos would be more impressive on a platform other than the Switch.

However, yet again, I did experience issues in Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian on the Switch with these fights. One involved enemies not reacting with an animation after being hit immediately, so there's this odd pause before the clip plays that leads into the fight. Another seemed like an odd glitch where, when I only had access to Rias, Slade, and Raze and put all three in the front row to be active, I might enter a fight and find only one of them was there and the other two somehow got relegated to the back. The first two times this happened, it was in the initial ruins and first dimensional path. I swapped characters for actions, and then when I went into a fight only that active person was in the front row. I needed to go into the menu after the fact to put people back in the right positions. As an aside, the menu for Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian on the Switch has its own issues, with there being a delay as you move between tabs after bringing up the main menu.
The alchemy and shop management systems also feel rather rudimentary compared to past games. In games like Atelier Ryza, it feels like there's a lot of thought that goes into it and like we needed to consider placement of materials. This goes for many other mainline installments. Here, there's a domino effect. Every ingredient has a consists of colors on either side, and you match each end to another of the same color for optimization purposes when you complete a synthesis. You can also add extra items for effects. It is fine, but I feel like it involves lower effort than in the past. Likewise, when placing things in the shop, you are encouraged to use that same domino effect element to boost sales. You also set the three fairies found on a first Dimension Path excursion as managing different areas. So it isn't as involved as a true shopkeeping simulation like, say, Recettear. The town development is similarly bland. It's okay and does offer an excuse to keep exploring and experimenting, since you get new synthesis recipes and progress as a result, but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I did managing my Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma villages. It is good to get item level buffs, quests, and shops as things rank up, and I liked seeing visitors from past games, but I wish there'd been more to it.

Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian feels like a simpler, stripped back take on the series and looks bad on the Switch. It might be more tolerable and entertaining on the PS5 or PC? I didn't feel the same connections to characters, even though I loved some of them in other games. It feels especially cheap after going through more robust entries like Atelier Ryza 3 and Atelier Yumia. If you really love the series, you might still enjoy it due to the cameos, combat, or its relatively simple nature, but I strongly recommend avoiding the Switch release.
Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian will come to the Switch, PS5, and PC on September 26, 2025.

Dicehead is one of the strongest characters in Megabonk, but you can make him "broken" with the right build.
Dicehead certainly takes a fair amount of time to unlock. You must complete 100 quests and obtain Dice, his signature weapon. This guide will help you maximize his passive ability and build a top-tier build.
Table of contents
Best Dicehead weapons in Megabonk
With Dicehead, it's best to go with his signature weapon. Dice is the best weapon in the entire game for raising crit chance. The buffs are permanent, and they can stack infinitely so the scaling starts feeling like a cheat as you keep scaling up the Crit Chance.
After a certain point, every attack from Dicehead is guaranteed to be a crit attack. I've tested a few other weapons, which I have mentioned below. You can try them out, but Dice, by far, is your best choice.
If you want to rank high on the leaderboard, go with Dice for the best results.
![]()
Best Dicehead tomes in Megabonk
We will go for tomes that improve the crit, damage, or empower Dicehead's passive.
XP tome and Luck tome are two other favorites. One allows you to level up Dicehead quicker, while the other will help you find better tomes and items on your run.
The strategy with Dicehead is simple. You'll want to be on the move in the early game since you'll be at your weakest. Survivability will be key as you keep stacking the auto-buffs. Dicehead's passive provides a random buff whenever he levels up.
These buffs aren't as strong as those from Shrines, but you can keep stacking them infinitely (unlike Shrines). Every buff Dicehead gains this way is permanent in nature. These effects are random, but they all build up nicely. I haven't found such scaling for any other character in the game's current build.
Combined with Dice's crit buffs, the effects will turn Dicehead into a nuker by mid-game. Endgame is when Dicehead is at his strongest, as all hits with my recommended build will be guaranteed critical strikes. On top of that, you'll be dealing more damage, and a few other buffs will provide you with the necessary sustains required to recover your health.

Despite what the bright yellow spandex would indicate, Marvel superhero Wolverine is a violent, murderous man. And Insomniac Games knows it.
After a painful four years of waiting, the PlayStation studio finally revealed more about Marvel's Wolverine, its upcoming action adventure game that's potentially set in the same universe as its Marvel's Spider-Man games. But from the look of the gameplay footage released yesterday at State of Play, you'd never know that.
![]()
Insomniac is going fully gloves off and claws out with its version of Wolverine, as evidenced by the severed limbs, impaled heads, and repeated gratuitous stabs with his Adamantium claws in the new footage shown. And it's fucking glorious.
"Death's always waiting, just not for me," Aussie actor Liam McIntyre as Wolverine says as the X-Men member violently stabs a cyborg enemy in the head, sending blood everywhere, before cutting to another scene where he uses both claws to lift an enemy off the ground and then skewer their brains once more. It's incredible. So, yeah, there's a lot of death coming, but that's how it should be.
Insomniac could have given us a watered down version of the character, and they could have marketed it for a wider audience and given it a T for Teen rating or something, but instead we're getting a brutal and visceral take on the character where he uses his indestructible metal blades the way they are meant to be deployed: for slaughtering things.
This is a departure for Insomniac, to be sure. This studio is known for master class games with not quite the most bloody or dark tones in them, such as Marvel's Spider-Man, Ratchet & Clank, or Spyro the Dragon. And that's part of what makes the game's shocking violence so refreshing to see.
"We aim to deliver the ultimate Wolverine fantasy built on Insomniac staples like fast, fluid, and ferocious combat; exhilarating, action-packed set pieces; robust accessibility features; and a gripping story that taps into the core tenets of one of the most compelling comic book characters of all-time," Insomniac senior community manager Aaron Jason Espinoza said on the PlayStation Blog. "We're breaking new ground with Wolverine, yes, but our penchant for telling stories about heroes overcoming colossal odds is as strong as ever. We're eager to explore Logan's story with you and tap into his signature spin on heroism, which is much darker and more brutal than you might expect from Insomniac."
This is how Wolverine NEEDS to be. Many of us grew up with the X-Men animated series and saw a cartoonish and slightly buffoonish version of the character, but in other mediums like certain comic book arcs and a few live action films, we got to see the beast for what he truly is. And this will thankfully be expanded upon in his new game.
"I ain't no hero," he says. "I'm Wolverine." And that seems like exactly what and who we'll be getting in fall 2026 for PS5: a monstrous, animalistic, barbaric murderer with a dark past who is trying to atone for what he's done somehow. Throw in other Marvel characters like Mystique, Omega Red, and an impending battle against at least one massive Sentinel, and we've got a true spectacle to look forward to next year.
And with a proven, award-winning dev like Insomniac at the helm, I feel safe in being very, very excited for this title.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is an amazing and less sanitized version of SEGA's Jet Set Radio. Developed by Team Reptile, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk puts you on a quest to discover the past of the main character while competing with rival gangs and fighting militarized police to conquer the city of New Amsterdam with skating, graffiti, and vandalism.
I've just finished the main story of BRC, but I can't drop the game just yet. I'm hooked by how it's persuading me to explore every area, even after I've chosen to ignore its collectibles in the post-game.
I could spend hours talking about how BRC, an indie game that's not restrained by SEGA's moral compass like Jet Set Radio was, is a lot of fun. But the game was the first one in a while that made me want to explore the stages more than any other open-world game I've ever played.
![]()
Exploration in open-world games or in games with large areas is usually restricted in some way. Take Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. When the player looks at the horizon, they see towers and spots they might want to explore. Not only are they far away, though, the player can't go there too early because they're indirectly locked by progression. The mountain might be too cold and require the player to have cold-resistant gear or food, or maybe they need a specific unlockable item to reach that area. These games show the player where they can go but say "Hey, take note of this, because you'll need to come back here later."
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk doesn't block your path. It shows you a wall you can tag in the tallest building in the area and makes it look impossible to reach. But no mechanic in this game locks progression. As long as you can control your character properly and explore the area in detail, you can reach any point with a shiny taggable wall on it.
I understood early that I could reach every shiny wall, so I felt like the game was challenging me. I could hear BRC saying, "I doubt you can reach this wall" whenever I entered a new area and saw that yellow marking at the top of the tallest building.
![]()
The apparently unreachable walls are a promise of reward you will get from skill and further exploration. Since no mechanics or items block you from reaching these hidden or nearly inaccessible places, all you have to do is explore the surrounding area to find the starting point to the path to the area. Usually, they involve a bunch of jumping and sliding puzzles, like billboard hopping, sliding on cables between buildings, or secret passages to slide underneath. It adds a skill factor to exploration that almost feels like solving a puzzle.
These difficult-to-reach BRC areas are nothing special, though. At most, they have an extra-large wall that will give you a little more REP when you tag it, though similar walls exist in more accessible locations.
Reaching these tough spots was enough of a reward for me, and I made it a personal goal to do so in all areas. BRC made me enjoy exploration enough to create objectives for myself, even though the game has its own side goals with countless collectibles. And if a game makes me comfortable enough to create my own challenges and they still make sense in the game, that's when I know I'm playing a masterpiece.

Marvel's Wolverine, Insomniac's upcoming superhero action game which at one point we thought would never see the light of day, has recently received a new trailer.
We have also been shown Logan's voice and motion capture actor, Liam McIntyre, who sounds awfully similar to Wolverine's live-action actor Hugh Jackman, and they're even both Australian. But while the latter needs no introduction, who exactly is Liam McIntyre, and what makes him the perfect choice for the role of Logan in a Wolverine game.
Quite a lot, actually, so here's everything you need to know.
Who is Liam McIntyre?
![]()
Born in 1982 in Adelaide, Liam McIntyre is an Australian actor, with extensive experience across various genres and formats, including film, television, and video games. His most well-known projects include Spartacus: Vegeance, Spartacus: War of the Damned, Star Wars Resistance, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, among others.
But McIntyre's career stands out for Wolverine in particular due to his vast experience in comic book adaptations, no matter the format. He played Captain Boomerang in Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War animated films, Weather Wizard in Marvel's The Flash television series, and Aquaman in Justice Society: World War II and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths.
On top of his prolific comic book experience, McIntyre also had more than a few run-ins with video games, and not in small roles or franchises. He was JD Fenix in Gears of War 4 and 5, Taron Malicos in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and had several roles in Star Trek Online.
With Wolverine now on the way, and his role as Logan, we are bound to see McIntyre more in video games, though his voice, as we've seen above, appears in quite a few adaptations and characters, both major and minor.
![]()
He clearly knows his way around all the different modern entertainment formats, and has a great mastery of voice, not least because he naturally has a deep and serious tone that'll lend itself perfectly to the role of Logan.
Insomniac is upping the ante with this game, focusing a lot more on the action, violence, and gore present in the Wolverine comics, and McIntyre's rugged sound is certainly going to help promote a version of Logan we haven't seen in a long while (outside of comics, that is).
If I hadn't known otherwise, I would have easily confused him with Hugh Jackman, on account of both being Australian and having iconic, rugged, and serious voices, which especially stand out coming from the original X Man himself.

Megabonk is slowly taking over my life with its countless items, characters, and builds that truly epitomize the Vampire Survivors-like experience.
But not all items are as straightforward as one'd like, oftentimes leaving players confused and wondering whether they should pick them up. One such effect, stemming from the Unstable Transfusion item, is Bloodmark, which isn't so well explained in the game. Here's everything you need to know about Bloodmark in Megabonk.
Megabonk Bloodmark, explained
![]()
Like many other offensive effects in the game, Bloodmark buffs your attacks tremendously, with the Unstable Transfusion granting you a chance to stack this effect on enemies.
Applying a stack removes a chunk of HP out of the enemy, allowing you to immediately execute them once that threshold is reached. It is thus one of the most powerful buffs in the game, helping you cut down any enemy to size, no matter how much HP they have.
What's more, Bloodmark appears to function based on percentages, meaning that even a boss with one million HP will be chunked for massive damage, potentially saving your run. It's powerful, and only grows as you gather more and more Unstable Transfusions and apply additional, bigger stacks to enemies and bosses.
Bloodmarks work in just about any build, and should almost never be skipped if encountered, given how much they can improve your killing potential, no matter the enemy.
It also tremendously speeds up gameplay since everything around you will start dying sooner, which in Megabonk only adds to the overall chaos unfolding as the game progresses.

Sitting and watching last night's State of Play was wild, not because we finally got a glimpse of Wolverine or because of the numerous excellent new titles that were shown. No. It was the announcement of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 for PS5 and PSVR2, which was the most shocking moment of the entire night.
This isn't the first Xbox title to make its way to PlayStation 5 in recent years; we have seen many other titles that were once Xbox exclusives now appear on PS5 and even Switch. Still, the idea of seeing a game with Microsoft's name on it featuring a PS5 logo was one of the more interesting moments to come out of the whole presentation.
On the one hand, Microsoft will be pleased to see the excitement surrounding the game on PS5, as evident from the comments section on YouTube's PS5 trailer. Most are even calling it the definitive way to play on console, thanks to the VR support. But you also have to wonder, is this the point where Xbox should pivot away from making consoles altogether, when it is already pushing the Xbox brand onto any device, from TVs to smartphones?
Xbox recently announced its second price hike for all Xbox systems this year, prompting some retailers to give up on the consoles altogether and sell them at massive discounts to clear their stock. And with most of its first-party lineup now on other systems, the idea that you need to own an Xbox to play these games is long gone.
So real talk. Destructoid faithful. Should Xbox give up making new consoles and being a first-party studio and pivot to being one of the biggest, if not the biggest, third-party studios of all time? Or should it continue to release its games as timed exclusives on its own platforms before slowly releasing them on other devices?
There are arguments for both, but with everything that has been going on with the Xbox brand these past few years and the direction the company appears to be going, whether through Microsoft's influence or not, where do you think Xbox is going, and what do you think will happen?
For me. It's hard to say. I feel like the death knell for Xbox would be seeing Halo appear on Switch 2 and PS5. If Xbox's biggest first-console mascot is no longer tied to the Xbox brand, then what is sacred to the platform anymore? Once you start that process and put it into people's minds that they can play your games anywhere, even if they have to wait a little longer to do so, the reason to buy an Xbox and justify the purchase really does get thrown out the window.
But what do you think? Let me know in the comments below!
