For as video gamey a series as The Matrix is, it is a touch surprising there have only been a handful of actual games. Obviously the one that makes most sense is The Matrix Online, what other genre but an MMO could The Matrix could be? Well, there's also Enter The Matrix, which is basically Max Payne, but you still have to wonder what else could have been. Especially because The Wachowskis literally pitched the idea of Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima making a Matrix game directly to Konami.

Sanrio Characters Become Teeth in New Gacha figures Badtz Maru, Hello Kitty, My Melody, Pekkle, and Pompompurin

Months ago, Takara Tomy announced a line of Sanrio characters gacha figures that reimagined each one as a tooth, and now it is confirmed they'll all appear in Japan in November 2025. It will be 300円 (~$2) per try. Six possible designs will be available. As these are Takara Tomy items and not part of Bandai Namco's Gashapon line, it's unknown if we'll see them worldwide. Rakuten in Japan is already showing listings for sets that don't include the sixth "rare" design.

Each of the figures is just over an inch tall (35mm). You get the character dressed as a tooth and a pink stand that resembles gums to hold them. (They can be removed and displayed outside of the stand.) All of them are healthy teeth except for Badtz Maru, which is suffering from a cavity. The lone "rare" one is an alternate version of Hello Kitty that is a gold tooth. In each case, there's an accessory to help establish who the character is, with both Hello Kitty options having a bow on the front and My Melody's ears poking out of the top of the tooth.

Here's the full list of character options someone could randomly get:

  • Badtz Maru
  • Hello Kitty
  • Hello Kitty (gold tooth variant)
  • My Melody
  • Pekkle
  • Pompompurin

The full ad or the Sanrio characters tooth gacha figures shows all six of them together arranged in a row that makes them look like they're in place in a mouth. A person's fingers are shown "pulling" the standard Hello Kitty tooth from the "gum" stand to offer a sense of scale.

Some of the more typical Sanrio characters gacha figures released recently are a little more ordinary. For example, ahead of Halloween 2025 some ones of mascots in yokai costumes appeared. But in the past other unusual merchandise, like items that focus on characters' butts, did appear.

The Sanrio characters gacha figures of Badtz Maru, Hello Kitty, My Melody, Pekkle, and Pompompurin as teeth will appear in Japan in November 2025.

FFVII Ever Crisis Tifa and Aerith FFXIII Lightning Weapons Shared

As part of the Final Fantasy series crossover in FFVII Ever Crisis, we already knew Tifa and Aerith would get outfits based on Lightning's appearance in the original FFXIII. Now we know exactly what the two weapons will look like as well. They'll both debut in-game via the gacha at 7pm PT/10pm ET on October 29, 2025. This comes after we got a closer look at the event storyline and costumes for both characters in a trailer last week.

For this crossover, Tifa gets Lightning's Gloves and Aerith can wield Lightning's Rod. The former is a more offensive weapon, while the latter is designed to support the team. We don't know every ability they possess just yet. But Lightning's Gloves come with the Army of Strikes Ice-based C Ability that hits one foe, inflicting Ice Resist Down and 1,340% Magic Ice Damage to an opponent. It can also give her the Exploit Weakness buff if her health is over 70%. Lightning's Rod's Enhancing Rose will heal allies for up to 7% of healing potency and gives every ally a Magical Damage bonus. It also includes a buff if her health is over 70%, and though that applies to all allies' PDEF instead of just Aerith's. The first time you use that C Ability, it also boosts Aerith's Command Gauge.

Here are the two infographic images showing what the Aerith and Tifa Lightning weapons based on FFXIII look like in FFVII Ever Crisis:

While these won't be available until later tonight, there is a new Angeal Halloween 2025 weapon and outfit available. The Ghost Ensis sword with the Rock Swarm C Ability is in the gacha until November 5, 2025. There's also a Ghost Robe gear costume for him with a Ghostly Spirit that increases his PDEF and MDEF and Boost Earth Potency (All Allies) that increases everyone's Earth damage R Abilities.

Here's the trailer for that:

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is available for PCs and mobile devices, Final Fantasy XIII is on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, and the FFXIII crossover comes to the FFVII spin-off on October 29, 2025.

Cyrene Moveset Detailed Ahead of Honkai: Star Rail Debut

HoYoVerse shared details about how the moveset for Cyrene will work on HoYoLab and released a new "Keeping Up with Star Rail" trailer that shows gameplay footage of each of those attacks. Specifically, it shows how her unique traits allow her to increase everyone's damage just for being on the team on the field and that her Verse Vow Ultimate both summons a Memosprite and lets every other ally use their Ultimates.

While Cyrene will work with everyone in Honkai: Star Rail and her moveset features abilities and attacks to help everyone, there are special buffs for other Chrysos Heir characters. Her Memosprite's This Ode, to All Lives will buff people who are part of that group. But if someone isn't, it just buffs their DMG. Due to the nature of her, due to her buffs and possible zone, there are two versions of her base attack. One is Lo, Hope Takes Flight that deals Ice damage to one enemy and gives her a Recollection point. If it's enhanced to the basic attack To Love and Tomorrow, she deals Ice damage to one foe first, then to all enemies, and restores Recollection points, but won't recharge a Skill Point when used.

Her skill is the supportive one. It is called Bloom, Elysium of Beyond. When used, there's a zone around everyone that increases the amount of damage they do and does "1 additional instance of True damage." It is only available for a set number of turns and while Cyrene is around.

Cyrene's Ultimate is Verse Vow. Once used, her basic attack becomes To Love and Tomorrow for a limited time. Her Memosprite appears, and both her and its critical rate will be higher. Her zone returns to increase everyone's damage and offer True damage. Everyone else's Ultimate will also refill and be ready to use. However, due to the nature of it, it can only be used once per battle.

Here's the "Keeping Up with Star Rail - Cyrene: A Blank Verse for the Future" Honkai: Star Rail trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X68ZVWb0G4s

Honkai: Star Rail is available on the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the Cyrene banner will arrive on November 5, 2025 and last until December 16, 2025.

Pac-Man Balloon Confirmed for Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2025

Bandai Namco and Macy's announced that the 99th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which takes place on November 27, 2025, will feature a Pac-Man balloon for the first time. It is, in part, designed to celebrate the character's 45th anniversary. There's no word exactly when he'll appear during the parade, but the show will start at 8:30am local time on NBC.

This version of Pac-Man is based on his Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac release, which appeared on the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in September 2025. He's wearing his red shoes and orange gloves, and he holds a cherry in his right hand.

Here's the preliminary art for the Pac-Man Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2025 balloon. That confirmed he'll be 40 feet long, almost 39 feet wide, and 37 feet tall.

This marks the third video game-themed balloon in the 2025 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Eevee and Pikachu Pokemon one showed up first in 2021. A new Super Mario one is debuting in the 2025 parade in honor of the Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 remasters and upcoming movie.

Macy's official site for the parade still only notes 32 balloons as being present. It doesn't show the Pac-Man balloon yet.

The Macy's 2025 Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place on November 27, 2025.

Hushed Whisper wasn't as popular as the other offerings in this year's Festival of the Lost, but this bow is still one of Destiny 2's hidden gems—especially with a god roll.

We overlooked Hushed Whisper at first glance, focusing instead on Gunburn, Festival of the Lost's other new addition, and the reprised Arcane Embrace. But thanks to a specific synergy between two of these perks, we're happy to keep one copy of it in our vaults.

This weapon struggles as a Legendary bow (and one of two aligned to Strand), since it doesn't get the bonus against enemies from the Wish-Keeper Exotic. Bows are also not in the best spot in the meta, but it may still be worth keeping a copy of this in your vault.

Here are our Hushed Whisper god rolls, based on perk data from d2foundry.gg.

Hushed Whisper PvE god rolls in Destiny 2

The Hushed Whisper precision bow in Destiny 2, with its usual black theme with arcane patterns scrawled in gold.
The base version may be even more beautiful than the Holofoil. Screenshot by Destructoid

  • String: Polymer String, Elastic String, or Natural String.
  • Arrow: Straight Fletching, Fiberglass Arrow Shaft, or Helical Fletching.
  • First perk: Tear, Slice, or Successful Warm-Up.
  • Second perk: Archer's Gambit, Explosive Head, or Hatchling.

The synergy between Tear and Archer's Gambit is what gives Hushed Whisper its flavor, at least in our experience, and that's why it's our god roll. If you're aiming for harder content, Archer's Gambit lets you line up shots quickly thanks to its draw time bonus, and Tear will sever enemies in an area-of-effect on a precision kill. Gambit doesn't need a kill either, so you can get it running with little setup.

If you're struggling to land your shots without aiming down sights, you can ADS to line up your arrow and release the aim input just before letting it fly, so it still counts as hip-firing.

Still, that's not the only option for Hushed Whisper, which has a few tricks that may complement your playstyle. Melee-focused players might get some use from having Collective Pugilism as a second perk, and Strand-based builds may also benefit from Hatchling as a second perk.

If that's the case, your god roll depends on what you'd like to pair it with the most. Tear and Slice are good options, especially in harder content, but there's another perk that may shine here, as seen below.

An Ogre and a Knight in Festival of the Lost 2025's Haunted Altars.
You may have to fight a bunch of these for your god roll. Image via Bungie

If you're taking your new Hushed Whisper for a spin in an easier activity, however, it's worth considering Successful Warm-Up in the third column over Tear. This gets you a consistent draw time buff triggered on kills (which are easier to come by with lower power deltas) and opens up room for a damage-boosting perk, such as Explosive Head, on column four. Precision Instrument is a bit hit-or-miss: it does grant you considerable benefits, but it's tricky to keep it stacked.

For parts, we recommend going for accuracy and draw time. The former works well in general, and the latter helps you keep firing more quickly before triggering your perks. When it comes to bowstrings, Polymer boosts both accuracy and draw time, while Elastic grants you more draw time with a penalty in accuracy, and Natural doesn't impact your draw speed but bumps other stats.

How to get Hushed Whisper in Destiny 2

A Headless One in the Haunted Altars in Destiny 2.
At least the Haunted Altars activity is fun. Image via Bungie

Hushed Whisper can drop from Festival of the Lost activities. Destiny 2's classic Halloween-themed event runs until Nov. 11 (after Bungie gave it an extra week due to bugs). It may drop from Haunted Altars of Sorrow (when it doesn't glitch out), the PvP-focused Red Rum(ble), and any Portal activity that has a FOTL Engram as your bonus drops.

After the spooky celebration ends, your next shot at getting this bow is probably in 2026. The good news is, the Call to Arms event kicks off just after FOTL, so at least you'll have more shiny new guns to chase—including the Submersion heavy crossbow, which counts as a bow and will be focusable for the first time.

Loadouts and builds work differently in REDSEC than the base game, but the fundamentals remain the same. While you're free to use any weapons, the following build makes the most of the Support's class proficiencies and abilities.

Item Best Choice
Primary KTS100 MK8 (RPKM)
Secondary P18
Gadget 1 Supply Bag
Gadget 2 Smoke Grenade Launcher

Let's begin with your primary. While I have RPKM in brackets, you'll want to opt for KTS100 Mk8. The LMG, with the right attachments, has practically no recoil while having decent damage and a massive ammo capacity.

For the Magazine, you can go with the 45RND Fast Mag. Adding the Ribbed Stubby as the Underbarrel makes it more stable, while the CQB Suppressor is the best choice for battle royale. Once built correctly, the KTS100 Mk8 can shred down enemies from a distance. It's also an excellent option for laying down suppressing fire to pin down the enemy.

For the two gadget slots, I went with the Supply Bag and the Smoke Grenade Launcher. As a Support, your job is to keep your team well-supplied. This means ammo and armor, and the latter appear to be quite scarce.

Once you drop the supply bag, it will automatically resupply your allies with ammo for weapons (gadget resupply doesn't happen in REDSEC). All your allies will also heal more efficiently by having a faster recovery rate, and even if they're in a gunfight. This can really create a unique situation where your supply bag can become the difference-maker.

For gadget 2, I have opted for the Smoke Grenade Launcher. Having an extra option outside of smoke grenades to create a temporary illusion in the battlezone is immensely useful.

With Support, it's important how you play. You will never want to get yourself isolated on the map, since it largely reduces the potential impact of the supply bag. Additionally, don't waste the ammo of your Smoke Grenade Launcher since you can't refill it.

You should aim to pick up as many health packs as you can, so that you are in proximity to your allies. Unlike other classes, your allies can pick the health packs by directly interacting with you.

Stone roads connecting houses in Super Fantasy Kingdom

You should build Stone Roads in Super Fantasy Kingdom to upgrade houses and get extra Workers when building new houses gets too expensive. This usually happens after you build your third house for 16 Wood. Upgrading the Castle to the next level to increase your capacity to 32 will take a bit longer.

To build Stone Roads, click or interact with your Quarry to open its menu, then use the Upgrade button and pay 5 Boards to unlock the Road Builder.

The Quarry menu in Super Fantasy Kingdom showing the option to upgrade it to add a Road Builder.
Upgrade your Quarry to build Stone Roads. Screenshot by Destructoid.

The Road Builder, an NPC in Super Fantasy Kingdom, will then start building Stone Roads on his own as long as you leave him active. If you see a yellow star when you hover over your Quarry, the Road builder is active. If the star is dimmed, it's inactive and not building Stone Roads. Since he will automatically build Stone Roads using 1 Coin per stretch of road, you may want to disable him when you need to save Coins.

He starts from the Quarry and builds the Stone Road towards the closest building that's not touching one yet. When a stretch is built, he returns to the Quarry before continuing to work on the next road.

You'll be able to upgrade a house when a Stone Road touches it, like in the picture below. The builder's constant movement is the key reason to build your Quarry next to two small plots of land where you can place your Houses. This way, when the Road Builder starts working, he will quickly get to the houses and enable the upgrades for you earlier than if the houses were far from the Quarry.

Then, you can spend raw Ore to upgrade your House and increase the number of Workers available, according to the numbers below:

House Upgrades Workers available Ores needed for the next upgrade
0 1 4
1 2 8
2 3 12
3 4 16
4 5 Can't be upgraded

Since you'll need Ores for the upgrade, remember to put some of your new workers on the Goldmine to gather more Ore to fuel your economy.

A player smithing in New World.

New World is officially in maintenance mode following massive layoffs at Amazon Games, which saw some 14,000 jobs cut, including those tied to the MMO. Mentions of AI and the sudden nature of this move threw players into an uproar, and they are now actively review-bombing the game.

As we covered yesterday, New World, Amazon's MMO and WoW rival, is going into maintenance. The game won't receive any new content from here on, which could be an overture into a complete shutdown in the coming months. The game came out in 2021 and was (and is) far from dead, peaking at around 40,000 players daily, which is a lot more than most games can hope for.

It's a fairly large community, and the sudden nature of this move has sparked total outrage, leading players to review bomb the game's Steam page. As a result, the reviews are now "Mixed" both in the recent and the overall categories. The former is on the verge of dipping into the "Mostly Negative" bracket, only held up by negatively-toned reviews that are, for some reason, set as "Recommended."

A bunch of players in New World.
New World was one of the most successful Steam launches in history, with nearly a million peak players. Image via Amazon

But no matter if they're a thumbs up or down, the sentiment is overwhelmingly negative and aimed against Amazon and its behavior, with fans saying the company should be "ashamed," that it "stabbed New World in the back," and that it is overall a "disgraceful" company. Words far harsher than these have also been used.

Players are even blaming AI and Amazon's affinity towards this new technology for New World's development cut. And while it isn't exactly clear what role AI had to play in this whole ordeal, Amazon's Oct. 28 blog post certainly does signify a shift in attitude, which could adversely impact other segments of its gaming division.

New World is not the only game under the corporation that's being scaled back. Amazon is halting "a significant amount of [its] first-party AAA development," which'll impact about everything the company might have been working on, such as the Lord of the Rings MMO.

The move above, while not yet the sore end for the MMO, is probably spelling the end of New World as we know it, which further highlights why movements like Stop Killing Games are so vitally important in this day and age. If the time comes, I hope Amazon will provide an end-of-life implementation that'll let players enjoy the game post-mortem, offline or on private servers.

Battlefield REDSEC Dropping in

The latest battle royale game to join the genre craze that took over the world in the past decade is off to a tenuous start on Steam, but for reasons you may not expect.

Battlefield REDSEC launched yesterday morning alongside Battlefield 6's season one, and it's off to a Mostly Negative rating on Steam thanks to a wide array of "not recommended" reviews on the platform. When looking into the reviews, though, the negativity seems to have little to do with the actual game mode itself.

Image via EA

A good amount of the negative ratings are from players who are unhappy that the focus seems to be shifting to REDSEC over the premium base game, BF6. The comparisons between the two have already begun, and as a CoD player who's seen Warzone take precedent over the year's base game a few times before, it feels all too familiar.

"I do not like being forced to do challenges for the battle royale, when I'm just interested in playing the base game," one of the top reviews said. "Please keep battle royale challenges separate from the standard multiplayer; if you want to have some multiplayer as a timed mode for the battle royale, that's fine, but please keep it separate."

"I wouldn't hate it so much if I wasn't forced to play it for challenges in the main game," another complained. "But I am. So I do. This is not why I bought Battlefield 6."

Comparing REDSEC to Warzone here, CoD often hosts different events with challenges across the game's modes, and many of them can be completed in any mode between multiplayer, Zombies, or Warzone. For EA's try at BR, it seems to really want to force players into trying it out.

With the new free-to-play mode now making the game accessible to anybody, there's also been the inception of ads for store bundles that have begun to pop up in the game. One reviewer said that "this whole S1 update feels like adblocker stopped working."

Again, as a CoD player, this feels like standard fare. Ever since Warzone dropped in 2020, Activision has spent a lot of time and money catering to F2P players in Warzone while trying to also entice them to pick up the full game for the full price. I'd expect EA to follow suit.

"If I wanted to play Warzone I would install CoD," one reviewer stated plainly.

The complaints are not all about REDSEC taking the shine from BF6, though. Several other reviews mentioned that REDSEC launched without solo queue or the ability to disable autofill, while some others complained that the BR mode has tanks and a lack of armor to find on the map. One gamer says the experience is bad when compared to other titles in the BR genre.

"Coming from APEX and Fortnite, the UI is the worst part of the game," they said. "Menus are incomprehensible, the settings are hard to navigate and understand, and the experience while playing a game sucks."

I've played several games, and I think REDSEC is alright. I do see the Warzone comparisons pretty clearly, and I don't really see myself going out of my way to play it due to a bit of BR fatigue. What do you think of it so far? Let us know in the comments.
