steins;gate re:boot header

Mages has delayed Steins;Gate Re:Boot from 2025 to 2026. According to the statement on the official Mages website, this is for quality improvement.

In a short post from Mages, Steins;Gate Re:Boot is an updated version of the original that'll with quality-of-life features and improved graphics. It wants to delay the release of the game to improve ‌what it already has, so Steins;Gate Re:Boot can stand on par with other games coming around this time.

The official website also has a post showing off what Mages has so far. Re:Boot will have new event CGs and backgrounds that weren't in the original. It also added new event CGs and redrew backgrounds, with Mages commenting that the backgrounds are so detailed that players could mistake them for photographs. There's also a picture showing off the new artwork for the cast. Character designer huke had redesigned their clothes and accessories, and we can see their new looks in the aforementioned event CG samples, too.

Steins;Gate came out in 2009, and it puts players in the shoes of Okabe "Okarin" Rintaro, a self-proclaimed mad scientist. He discovers and develops time travel, and he's the only one who can sense the differences that occur between timelines as they change the past. A critically-acclaimed anime adaptation of Steins;Gate came out in 2011.

Steins;Gate Re:Boot will come out in 2026. More details will come out at WePlay Expo 2025, which will take place in Shanghai on November 22 and 23, 2025.

Octopath Traveler 0 Staff Talked About Its 30 Characters

Square Enix shared a new official interview with Producer Hirohito Suzuki and Director Yasuhiro Kidera that went into explanations as to why there are 30 characters we can find and make into allies in Octopath Traveler 0. Suzuki cited the desire to offer enough options for the eight-player parties, while Kidera noted technical and developmental limitations led to that number of allies. They also mentioned how each character has their own Ultimate Technique and will decorate their own homes in different ways when they move to Wishvale to ensure they all feel different.

To be more specific, Suzuki first noted that the team, "wanted players to have lots of different characters to experience, and having more than 30 was great for letting them retain that feeling of play and experimentation." After that, Kidera brought up the work that would go into each of the 30 individual allies. The director sated, "Each character requires their own illustration and artwork, their own pixel art, their own abilities, all the different effects… this requires various types of assets. So, when we took all of those into account, that's how we landed on this number."

After that, Producer Hirohito Suzuki also talked about the recruitment process for the 30 characters in Octopath Traveler 0. He noted this will involve exploration and experimentation. In the interview, he stated, "We wanted to design the game so there were lots of different ways that these characters might join your party. For example, they might join your party as a very natural outcome as you follow and progress through the main story. Another character might be someone you encounter in the world. If you happen to wander into a town tavern somewhere and talk to someone, then you might trigger someone to join your party as well. Or someone might request help from you, and if you help them they might also join.

"Even then, there are situations where certain sudden incidents might unfold and that might prompt someone to join as well. Again, there's a very diverse, wide range of ways that happens given that each of these characters does have their own story."

Octopath Traveler 0 will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on December 4, 2025, and a demo is available.
