Julian Gerighty, a long-time key cog at Massive Entertainment, has announced that he's departing the Ubisoft-owned studio after 12 years to go and work on Battlefield at EA. His departure swiftly follows Ubisoft revealing earlier this week that they're planning to lay off staff at Massive, with a voluntary redundancy process late last year reportedly having not resulted in enough departures to stave off this bloodletting.

Meanwhile, the publishers have opted to take the opportunity of Gerighty's departure to reassure folks that The Division series is just fine.

DLSS 4.5 is out now, and while previous new versions of Nvidia's performance-massaging upscaler would have required waiting around for game implementation – beyond the inevitable Cyberpunk 2077 debut, anyway – it follows more recent additions in letting you impose it upon existing games from the off. That's done via the Nvidia App and its DLSS Override tools, which following an update on January 14th, is tooled up with what version 4.5 promises to be tangible visual improvements.

I've been testing it, both on this public Nvidia App release and on a pre-release beta build, and DLSS 4.5 can indeed deliver on the right settings. But it's also more of a specialised tool than DLSS 4, and although backwards compatibility is welcome, it's presented with an opaque naming system that has as much in common with algebra as it does with upscaling.

Legacy Umamusume Daily Borrows Nearly Double Worldwide

Cygames announced that the global version of Umamusume: Pretty Derby now allows more daily borrows for Legacy Umamusume characters via our friends list. Previously, we were limited to up to three per day. The in-game announcement confirmed that on January 16, 2026, starting at about 3pm/5pm ET, that will go up to five.

There's nothing that we'll need to change to access the larger number of Legacy Umamusume borrows in the game. This will happen after the daily update.

In addition to being able to borrow up to five times, the first instance each day will be free. Typically, we need to pay Monies, the currency we earn by going through the Career or daily races, to borrow a Veteran Umamusume. This cost varies depending on if the friend you're borrowing from is in your club and the rank of the character. The first time, regardless of those factors, won't cost a thing. Since you only need to do one Career run per day for the daily mission rewards, this means there'd be no cost.

This comes as new Umamusume banners launched. Fine Motion is a Mile and Medium Pace Chaser who works best on Turf. She's now available as a playable three-star character, following her previously appearing on a notable Wit Support Card. The newest SSR Stamina Support Card is Manhattan Cafe. It features a means of getting the Stamina Siphon skill from a Career Event. Both will join the general pool after those banners end on January 23, 2026. They follow the Christmas Oguri Cap and Biwa Hayahide alts.

Here's the Fine Motion trailer.

Lego Legend of Zelda Set Depicts Ocarina of Time Final Battle

Nintendo and Lego announced a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time set called The Final Battle that features Link and Zelda fighting Ganon. It will release on March 1, 2026, and it costs $129.99. Only the official Lego storefront is selling it at the moment, as the Amazon storefront only shows the Deku Tree set.

The Final Battle is a 1,003 piece set, and its recommended for ages 18 and up. The main display will be 6.5 inches tall and 11 inches long. It is designed to look like Link, Zelda, and Navi are fighting the transformed version of Ganon at Hyrule Castle. The base also has the Triforce on it. However, there are multiple posing options. So someone could set it up with the two facing a Ganon minifig, and it is possible to display the larger version of the boss off of the base.

Here's how it looks:

There is also a brief trailer on social media that shows the set.

https://twitter.com/NintendoEurope/status/2012200500444225909

The last Lego set based on the series came out in September 2025. It involved The Great Deku Tree and had options that let you change its appearance to look like the one in Ocarina of Time or Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time The Final Battle Lego set will release on March 1, 2026. The game is on the N64, GameCube, and 3DS.

Nintendo New York Will Host FFVII Remake Naoki Hamaguchi Autograph Session

Nintendo announced there will be a special launch event for the next Final Fantasy VII part at its New York store, as it will host an autograph session with FFVII Remake Intergrade Director Naoki Hamaguchi. That will take place at the 10 Rockefeller Plaza location in New York City between 5pm-7pm ET on January 22, 2026. In order to attend, someone must have a Nintendo Account and sign up for a Warp Pipe Pass.

Registration for the Warp Pipe Pass for the Nintendo New York store FFVII Remake Intergrade event begins at 3pm PT/6pm ET on January 16, 2026. Someone needs to log into the official site and visit the designated page for it. People can sign up while tickets last, but the company did note that period could remain open until 4pm PT/7pm ET on January 22, 2026. If you do get a ticket, it will be first-come, first-serve to meet and get an autograph from Hamaguchi.

Nintendo also clarified how the process will go online. If you show up for the FFVII Remake Intergrade Naoki Hamaguchi autograph session, you can have either the game or poster signed. Nintendo will have these there. The Warp Pipe Pass ticket also applies for a one-hour slot. So you come in for that period, wait your turn, and get the signature. The company didn't note if demos or other special events will take place beyond the signing.

Before buying FFVII Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2, someone can try it. Square Enix released a demo in December 2025. It's available to try there and on the Xbox Series X ahead of the January 2026 launch.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will appear on the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X on January 22, 2026, and the PS5 and PC versions of FFVII will get a Streamlined Progression patch that same day. A demo is available. The game originally appeared on the PS4, which isn't getting this latest patch.

Fisher-Price My Mario Little People Figures and Playset Appear

Nintendo and Fisher-Price officially let loose listings for the My Mario Little People figures and playset options online. While the Fisher-Price site noted we should be seeing all three items in the line at Amazon, Target, and Walmart, right now only Amazon has listings for the $21.59 six-figure set, the $26.99 Bowser's Airship set, and $53.99 Adventure set.

The set of six figures is the most basic item in the collection. That gets you six My Mario Little People of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, and Toad. Each of these are about two and a half inches tall. Those seem to be shipping immediately, with the Amazon listing saying people could expect them between January 30, 2026 and February 11, 2026.

The two playsets both aren't immediately available, with the Adventure set having a March 7, 2026 release date and none offered on the product page for Bowser's Airship. Both of these are more elaborate. The airship comes with a Bowser figure. It also features a propeller at the top of the shift's mast that can be spun and a Koopa shell to spin. A cannon ball launcher is at the front of the ship. At the back is a Warp Pipe, and dropping a figure or item down it will make that drop out the back of the ship. Meanwhile, the Adventure set features sounds and more interactive elements. The Warp Pipe is one area with sounds from the game, and similar noises will be heard if you press the button near Question Blocks to make Mario "hit" them to get coins or a power-up. There are also things to spin and move like a Goomba panel, a sliding Koopa shell, and a Chain Chomp.

Here's how all those things look:

These aren't the only recent Super Mario outreach for kids. In addition to other My Mario merchandise, there's a Hello Mario app.

Orders are now open for the Fisher-Price My Mario Little People figures and playsets, though the Bowser's Airship one seems to not be available just yet.

Yakuza 3 Kiwami Demo Confirmed

Sony announced via the PlayStation Blog that Sega will release a demo for Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, the updated remake of the third game with an entirely new Yoshitaka Mine storyline. However, we don't know when this might appear. It was only confirmed at an event that there will be a means for people to try the adventure before buying it.

The announcement came in a PlayStation Blog preview about the game. While the article did mention both the writer experiencing the Kazuma Kiryu Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Mine Dark Ties segments, it didn't note if that will be possible in the upcoming demo. It only noted Sega will make an announcement regarding it.

It's actually pretty rare for Yakuza and Like a Dragon series games to get demos. Only two are immediately available right now, and those are both for spin-off games. One is a combat demo for Like a Dragon: Ishin, which is set in 1860s Japan, involves the Shinsengumi, and features a Ryoma Sakamoto that looks suspiciously like Kazuma Kiryu. The other is Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, the Goro Majima game set around the same period as the eighth Yakuza game Infinite Wealth

Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties will come to the Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on February 12, 2026. The original game is on the PS3, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Honkai: Star Rail Planarcadia Characters Teased

HoYoVerse took to social media to share an array of new images teasing characters we'll see in the new Planarcadia world and storyline after the Honkai: Star Rail 4.0 update. In addition to Sparxie and Yao Guang, who will be the first two we'll see after the patch, two Stellaron Hunters appear alongside three characters. The images also teased that this update will involve the Aeon Aha, the Elation path, and perhaps both The Masked Fools and Genius Society.

The two Stellaron Hunters who will apparently play a part in Honkai: Star Rail 4.0 are Silver Wolf and Blade. This comes after 3.4 buffs for the characters. Both of them seem to appear in new forms suggesting alts, just like how Sparxie is the SP version of th existing character Sparkle.

Three entirely new Honkai: Star Rail characters appear in these Planarcadia Aha teaser images. They are Ashveil, Evanescia, and Nihilux. There are no details about either of the three, and we haven't heard any references to them yet.

Here are all the new pieces of Aha art for the four new Honkai: Star Rail Planarcadia characters, Sparkle alt Sparxie, and new takes on Stellaron Hunters  Blade and Silver Wolf.

Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

hundred line 1 2

Too Kyo Games revealed that Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- is actually two games in one, and it also showed off the full key visual of both games. The soundtrack for the game is out on streaming services, too, and you can pre-order the director's edition of the soundtrack via Aniplex Online.

The first key visual of the game uses red and gray, whereas the new key visual for the "second game" is more blue. This visual features more characters, including the Undying Flame Boy at the back of the group. A limited physical edition using the Hundred Line 1&2 Pack key visual will appear in stores on April 24, 2026.

Though there was some confusion on social media about whether Hundred Line 2 is a sequel or a DLC, 2 actually means Routes 1-100. After beating the first hundred days (Route 0), you can unlock Hundred Line 2, which is reflected in the main menu and such. You can watch the new trailer for Hundred Line 2 here (again, this only means Routes 1-100):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRaA18UBboo

A future update for the game will also let you skip directly to 2. This is not recommended for first-time players, though. Routes 1-100 pick up directly from the end of Route 0. It's akin to starting from The Return of the King without watching the first two movies.

As for the Hundred Line Original Soundtrack Director's Edition, it'll come with a sticker page featuring the character chibis. This bonus goes for all storefronts. The soundtrack costs 5500 JPY ($34.80), and it contains 88 tracks. It'll come out on April 16, 2026.

Player being diagnosed in Quarantine Zone

Quarantine Zone: The Last Check has some really cool easter eggs related to the survivors that roll into your outposts.

While most of the survivors that arrive are generic and random (changes as per saves), there are a few known faces. Their clothes and apparel might be randomly generated, but their faces resemble their real-life personalities.

Let's look at all the popular celebrity NPCs we have in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check.

All celebrity NPCs in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check

Before we deep dive into your in-house celebs, it's worth noting that they can be infected. Their clothes will be different across saves, but you can identify them by their face. Their appearances are also random, and some of them might not even appear.

Crazy Dave

A survivor in Quarantine Zone
Screenshot by Destructoid

If you've played Plants vs Zombies, you'll immediately identify the pot-bellied man who spawns as a survivor in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check. He also has his signature frying pan in his hand, which makes him quite hilarious to look at.

Skeleton Guy

Skeleton Guy in Quarantine Zone
Screenshot by Destructoid

A guy with skeleton hands and a bag on his head will appear pretty early. While he truly looks like an undead, he has no signs or symptoms. While I made the mistake of eliminating him, he is actually DieDevDie. He is a pretty popular streamer who can be seen regularly on YouTube and TikTok.

Kilira Cooper

Kirila Cooper in Quarantine Zone

The popular French streamer Kilira Cooper also appears as a survivor. While she does look pale due to her makeup, she wasn't infected in my save, at least.

DansGaming

DansGaming in Quarantine Zone

If you follow streamers online who are into Fallout and Elder Scrolls, chances are that you've come across DansGaming's channel. If you have, you'll be able to immediately identify when Dans appears as a survivor, trying to find safe passage.

Godenot

Godenot in Quarantine Zone
Image via Devolver Digital

Brazilian YouTuber Godenot, like Crazy Dave, has a unique knitted knight helmet when he appears as a survivor. In my save, he was completely free of any problematic symptoms.

Quarantine Zone: The Last Check has also had its first collaboration with Dead by Daylight, and four survivors have crossed to find a shelter in your outpost. You can find four of them appearing randomly, and some of them can also be infected.

Additionally, BaityBait and Lightskin Nightshade also apparently appear as survivors, but they didn't pop up on my save, sadly.

Bastion in ARC Raiders

Live-service games have long eluded the threat of piracy due to their constant internet requirements and server-side checks used to verify any given copy. However, modern problems require modern solutions, which led a group of pirates to concoct a bypass and start playing ARC Raiders for free.

The topic came to broader public attention with a Jan. 13 Reddit thread that outlined that ARC Raiders had indeed been cracked. To put it more accurately, the game's online checks and backend copy verification methods had been bypassed, and no actual "crack" had been made at the time. This allowed pirates to hop into the game free of charge, and they did so for several days, with the crack being patched out (with no actual mention of it from Embark) by Jan. 14.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ArcRaiders/comments/1qc3ysp/for_embarks_attention_arc_raiders_has_been_cracked/

I read this today and went into the thick of it, perusing a well-known Russia-based forum for cracked games (which I won't link or mention) and looking up ARC Raiders on it. From what I could see, a warez pirate called osb79 was responsible for making and distributing the crack among forum users, as is attested by this CrackWatch post (a subreddit dedicated to highlighting new cracks for popular games).

On the forum, users shared with each other new versions of ARC Raiders whenever a patch came out, and when things went wrong, they figured out it was the Reddit user who caused their ultimate demise. Calling him a "party pooper," forum users were entirely blocked from playing ARC Raiders, saying the fun was "over," at least for the time being.

Further replies to the ARC Raiders thread on the forum seem to have been suspended, though this could also be a site-wide blockage that may have been imposed amid increased attention after the ARC Raiders ordeal.

https://www.reddit.com/r/CrackWatch/comments/1qcpaoc/arc_raiders_bypass_by_osb79/

However, these folks aren't known for giving up. I think they'll keep trying to bypass the game and ultimately crack it, even if that means playing on separate, private servers among themselves. The biggest issue with this bypass was that pirated copies could be used to play against legitimate players, potentially creating an environment for rampant cheating with no real consequences, even if bans were issued.

Forum users acknowledged this, saying they understood why people were angered by this bypass, since most of them had forked over $40 and now had their fun ruined by those who never paid a dime.

As I've said, this forum doesn't let go lightly. There are games on there that they've been trying to crack for over a decade by now, figuring out new ways to bypass restrictions or crack at least some parts of those titles that they cannot break through in full, i.e., by unlocking DLCs on legit copies, among other things.

Recently, a new pirate group has appeared that's been cracking Denuvo-protected games every couple of weeks or so, breaking a years-long stasis in piracy induced precisely by that copy protection mechanism. With growing skill and numbers due to global economic factors, we can only expect the pirates to keep trying to bypass and break through games on the market, and ARC Raiders should guard itself well against any such attempts.

While cracking single-player games is one thing and cannot hurt the broader community, cracking into a live-service game for free and then using nefarious means to gain gameplay advantages is on a whole new level.

But I guess this is just a sign of the times.

The post Somehow, ARC Raiders got cracked, and though Embark patched it, the threat still looms appeared first on Destructoid.

Best players to use in Build Your TOTY HM Evolution

Here are some of my best recommendations for inclusion in the evolution. Ideally, you'll want to select based on which position you want to upgrade.

  • Patrick Vieira Winter Wildcards
  • Paul Pogba Ultimate Scream
  • Ryerson Winter Wildcards
  • Nico Gonzalez Winter Wildcards
  • Tchouameni Captains
  • Emre Can Winter Wildcards
  • Olivia Moultrie Winter Wildcards
  • Leon Goretzka Flashback
  • Araya Time Warp

There's a phase two of this evolution that's already live. The requirements are identical, and you'll need to put your evo card in the one that's applicable.

A player smithing in New World.

A few months ago, New World got axed, sharing the fate of so many of its live-service brethren. And while the servers are still kicking, no new content will come to the game, and now Rust's lead dev wants to save it from certain doom, much like Hytale was back in November 2025.

New World had its development frozen last year, indicating a full-blown shutdown was soon to follow. Things remained calm for a spell, and the servers kept kicking, but Amazon has since delisted the game from all stores, preventing any further purchases. Servers are likely to be cut by early next year, if not earlier, marking the end of an ambitious project that was to dethrone World of Warcraft as the go-to MMO (something many had tried and failed to do over the years).

https://twitter.com/Alistair_McF/status/2011890710468071708

Alistair McFarlane, COO of Rust developer Facepunch, came out with a proposition to buy out the game from Amazon, saving it from being taken offline. He said on X that "games should never die," and offered 25 million (probably GBP) for the game. So far, Amazon doesn't seem to have responded to the public offer.

But one curious person did reply, Simon Collins-Laflamme, founder and original owner of Hytale, who rescued his own project from the clutches of Riot Games and its dubious development cycles. Hytale, after years in limbo at the company, was repurchased by Collins-Laflamme and finally released in early access. Being an expert on the topic of saving dead games, he offered McFarlane "tips on buying canceled games," which could lead to a Hytale-style situation with New World.

How genuine and serious McFarlane's offer is remains unknown, but it would certainly be a good thing for the market to save dying games if there's any chance at saving them. Sure, I guess Amazon did its market analysis and saw New World's declining player base as unsalvageable, but perhaps it didn't try as hard as it could, or had as much ambition as, say, Facepunch would.

We'll have to wait and see if anything comes of this, but while negotiations continue in sooth or jokingly, New World continues to exist in stasis, awaiting the axe to finally drop after staring it down for months.

ARC Raiders hero

ARC Raiders dev Embark Studios may be fighting back hard against hackers and cheaters, and a Peanut could have been the one who turned the tide.

Hugely popular streamer TheBurntPeanut, who is a VTuber that digitally imposes his eyes and mouth onto a peanut, is by far the largest content creator in ARC Raiders, routinely bringing in over 40,000 viewers while live. While he built his channel on Escape From Tarkov, he has exploded in popularity with ARC Raiders, so people are bound to listen when he complains like he did recently.

"Embark, fix this, or I'm fuckin' out of here," he said in an impassioned plea after being stream-sniped by hackers for multiple games. "I'm actually out of here. Give us something, or I'm actually out of here, this is ridiculous. If those guys are not IP-banned from this game, I genuinely don't think I'm gonna play it."

Peanut followed up this morning, saying that he was "just heated at that moment because the same three cheaters had been following us for a long time without getting banned," but reiterated his love for the game and dev Embark Studios, saying that the team "is incredibly passionate about it and is working hard to continue making it great."

But the most recent development this morning came from fellow content creator THump, who posted a screenshot apparently from one of the hackers who revealed in a Discord channel that they had been permanently suspended from the game.

"Just wanted to let you know that they just banned one of them permanently 30 minutes ago," THump said. "After a month long of them doing nothing, your rant made the difference in them finally taking action. Use your voice more."

TheBurntPeanut was hardly the first to sound off about cheaters ruining their games. Streamers like Ninja and Nadeshot had been vocal for weeks before this recent development, and it led to a response. On Jan. 8, Embark announced that it was aware of cheating being an issue and was working on an update.

"We've seen the discussion around the topic of cheaters in ARC Raiders," Embark Studios community manager Ossen said on the game's Discord. "Please know that we are taking this issue very seriously and are listening to, and acting on your feedback. Over the next few weeks, we are implementing significant changes to our rulesets and deploying new detection mechanisms to identify and remove cheaters."

For now, it's unclear if these potential bans are part of a wider swath of anti-cheat efforts from Embark, or if this was targeted due to their very public cheating and stream-sniping. The hope is that cheaters and hackers from now on will be detected and taken care of, because it's not realistic or expected for Embark to target individual cheaters, because not everyone will have the platform like Peanut to draw attention to them.

Destructoid has reached out to Embark Studios for comment on the bans.

Hytale water farming

Hytale has plenty of crafting materials already available in the early access build, and you'll need to craft plenty of Leather.

Leather is required to produce different items and in certain upgrades. That's where Hides come in. You'll find different types of Hides from various sources, and then convert them into Leather. At the time of writing, there are three types of Hides in Hytale.

How to get all types of Hides in Hytale

There are three types of Hides you can currently get: Light, Medium, and Heavy. All hides come from slaying various animals that roam around the wild. However, knowing the correct animals and what they provide will be helpful if you're looking for a specific material.

Light Hide

Light Leather comes from Light Hide. The following animals will get you Light Hide, which can then be processed into Light Leather, which is required for weapons and armors.

  • Antelopes
  • Boar
  • Cows
  • Chickens
  • Deer
  • Pigs
  • Horned Rabbits (the bigger ones)

Most of these animals don't fight back so that you can hunt them pretty easily.

Medium Hide

Medium Hide comes from the following animals, and you can process it into Medium Leather.

  • Wolves
  • Lions

Heavy Hide

Mosshorn in Hytale

Heavy Hide, which can be converted to Heavy Leather, comes from the following animals.

  • Bears
  • Mosshorn

These are the most dangerous animals you can encounter. You should only attempt to take them down if you have the necessary weapons and armor.

How to get Leather in Hytale

Once you have found Hide, you can convert it into Leather using a Tanning Rack. While the tier 1 Tanning Rack is good enough for Light Leather, you'll need to upgrade for Medium and Heavy. The Creative mode has more types of Hides and Leather, but they're yet to be added to the Exploration mode.
