PCGamesN Friday, December 13, 2024 11:52 AM There was a point in the '90s where we were spoiled for choice on dinosaur videogames. These have now disappeared from the most part, much to our chagrin, but the latter is finally making a comeback in Turok: Origins, though looking a bit different than before. |

In an interview with IGN, Elden Ring Nightreign Director Junya Ishizaki said there will be no crossplay multiplayer for the new cross-platform co-op game. However, like the original Elden Ring that it is based upon, there is cross-generation compatibility. [Thanks, IGN!]
There were no deep explanations about how and why FromSoftware made decisions about how multiplayer would work in the cross-platform game Elden Ring Nightreign, so we don't know why there's no cross-play. Ishizaki's response to IGN's Wesley Yin-Poole was relatively simple. He stated, "Similar to the original Elden Ring, there will be cross-generational play but not cross-platform play. So PS4 players can play with PS5 players, and Xbox One players can play with Xbox Series S and X players, but not between platforms." Since this installment will be on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, it means PS4 and PS5 folks can play together, as can Xbox One and Xbox Series X players.
We will have an opportunity to see how that will may work out ahead of launch. Bandai Namco announced there will be a closed Network test for the game. That will be held in February 2025. In January 2025, we'll get a chance to register to participate in that.
Elden Ring: Nightreign will come to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2025. Elden Ring is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is also available now.

A Hello Kitty Island Adventure Switch release date appeared in the latest trailer for the Animal Crossing-like game. People who have been waiting to play it on Nintendo's console/handheld can pick that up on January 30, 2025. This is over two years after its Apple Arcade debut back in June 2023. Update: Sanrio and Sunblink confirmed that is also the release date for the PC version of the game.
Here's the full video looking at Hello Kitty Island Adventure on the Switch. It begins with an overview of the island, before moving on to gameplay that shows players' unique avatar exploring alongside Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty. We also get to see the avatar customization system, puzzle solving, photo mode, and crafting. The relationship-building and events come up at about the one minute mark. Towards the end, we get to see how we can decorate cabins on the island to attract visitors. (Said visitors are other famous Sanrio mascots.)
While this trailer only confirms the Hello Kitty Island Adventure release date for one platform, we do know it will come to another that day as well. We learned it would go multiplatform once the game had been on Apple Arcade for a year. At the time, Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC versions were confirmed, with the Switch and PC ones set to arrive first. The Steam product page there still mentioned a Q1 2025 window as of 10:30am ET on December 13, 2024, but it is confirmed it will debut on January 30, 2025 too.
In the meantime, the Apple Arcade version of the game continues to get updates and events. Pompompurin's Halloween and fall event showed up recently, as did one for Hello Kitty's 50th anniversary.
The Hello Kitty Island Adventure Switch and PC release date is set for January 30, 2025, and it is available on iOS and Macs now via Apple Arcade. The game will also come to the PS4 and PS5 in 2025.

There's a new patch for FFVII Remake, Square Enix said it allows people to opt for a "Head Start" to make it easier to enjoy the story or skip cutscenes or fast-forward through cutscenes. This updates both to the main game and Yuffie Episode INTERmission DLC storyline. However, the new features are only available for the PS5 and PC.
In the case of the skip feature in Final Fantasy VII Remake, you can use this fast-forward feature at any of the cutscenes in the game. There are also two options. You can go through them at 1.5 speed. Or, if you're familiar with what's going on, you can go through them twice as quickly.
The Head Start option for FFVII Remake is a little more limited. You need to select "New Game - Head Start" when you either begin the main story with Cloud or Episode INTERmission to see Yuffie and Sonon's adventure. When you do, you'll find that every person is at level 45 once you gain access to them as a playable character. So Cloud will be at level 45 right away, and Yuffie and Sonon will in that campaign as well. They'll also have SP equivalent to that, so you can build up their movesets. In addition, there will be other items and bonuses waiting for you to make progressing easier. So you'll have 50,000 gil to spend in stores, some maxed out Materia, a selection of items, and some gear and accessories.
This is the most recent update for FFVII Remake to appear for a while. Most of Square Enix's recent reveals had to deal with its development. For example, it showed what Cloud's Wall Market dress concept art looked like and talked about Roche's design.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is available on the PS4, PS5, and PC. The FFVII Remake update with Head Start and fast-forward features is live on the PS5 and PC now. FFVII Rebirth is on the PS5 now, with the PC version debuting on January 23, 2025. The third entry in the trilogy is in development.

While there is still no official release date yet for Elden Ring: Nightreign, we will be able to play the unique FromSoftware co-op experience for the first time in the very near future via a Network Test. This is going to be a closed beta that only some players will be able to jump in and enjoy come February 2025.
While the Elden Ring: Nightreign Network Test has set for February 2025, an exact window and start date is not known just yet. That said, what we do know is when and how players will be able to sign up for the beta period. Starting on January 10, 2025, we can register for a chance to participate in the test. There are no guarantees of getting in, so players should sign up immediately then.
Here's the official reveal on social media:
Players who do get into the Network Test will get to check out a portion of the cooperative multiplayer action RPG. It looks like only PS5 and Xbox Series X players will get into the early test event, as the PC isn't mentions.
This brand new, stand-alone FromSoftware title condenses the typical Elden Ring experience into a three-night, ever-changing gauntlet of challenges. Players pick between eight different characters to play as for the experience, each with their own abilities and skills.
In preparation for the Elden Ring: Nightreign Network Test registration, you can sign up for the official mailing list. This allows you to know exactly when registration will open up on January 10, 2025, and, hopefully, not miss out on the test period in February 2025.
Elden Ring Nightreign will release for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime in 2025. The closed Network Test will happen in February 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Since the success of The Exit 8, the walking simulator where you need to pick out anomalies in an underground subway station and proceed or turn back in order to eventually succeed, there have been a number of similar games capitalizing on the idea. Want to escape? You can't! Spot the differences, or you'll die! The Cabin Factory, a horror game from International Cat Studios and Future Friends Games, follows the same general idea and anomaly-spotting gameplay as The Exit 8, but adds more of a story to the experience to make it more captivating.
You're a Cabin Inspector at a place called The Cabin Factory. The company makes identical cabins for various amusement purposes, and you were hired after some incidents suggesting some of the buildings are haunted. Each location arrives via conveyor belt completely assembled and filled with props. Your goal is to go through each cabin and see if anything is out of place, moving, or just plain weird. (The kid in the second floor bedroom with a blanket over their head is always there, so don't freak out about that.) If something is wrong, the place is haunted. You need to get out ASAP, then click the danger button on your console. If it's fine, hit clear. This happens eight times.
In theory, the examination is fairly simple. The Cabin Factory is a walking simulator horror game, which means you aren't really interacting with anything like in The Exit 8. You check out the cabin's entryway, the main space with the woman's portrait, dresser, and bed, the kitchen area, and the upstairs bedroom. Depending on circumstances, you might get a chance to explore other areas. When you're satisfied, you can exit. Or maybe not. It depends on the anomaly.
Which is something I really liked in The Cabin Factory, because this is a horror walking simulator that isn't just about spotting differences. There's an actual story around it involving the situations you're experiencing. I felt it really added to the atmosphere and exploration elements, as it helped make everything more immersive. You get an idea of what's going on, and I felt it helped make me more intimidated and afraid of certain situations. Though also, as an aside, there is an option to toggle jump scares on and off, which is appreciated. The fact that sometimes you just have to give up control and go with it, since International Cat Studios is telling a tale, is pretty great.
However, there are two things that kept me from immediately going, "Okay, The Cabin Factory is great, it's my new favorite horror walking simulator, and I don't need any more The Exit 8 style games." The first is that I did encounter some anomalies that didn't really seem fair. I'm not going to actually spoil them, since it is out today and you might be heading to work checking for hauntings yourself. But in one case, I could tell there was an anomaly present immediately. I turned around ASAP, dashing mind you, and went to open the door to leave. As I was starting to step through and escape, something got me and I needed to start over. It struck me as unfair, since I did everything right, and I didn't deserve to have that run end. This ended up coming up a second time with another anomaly during my "shift," so I know it wasn't a bug.
The other issue is that unlike Kotake Create games like The Exit 8, International Cat Studios can make it pretty difficult to catch some The Cabin Factory anomalies. I ended up adjusting the brightness in the settings, which ruined the atmosphere a bit, since that helped with picking out some. But perhaps because these are multiple room spaces with nooks and crannies, it is much more challenging to find an "issue" sometimes. Especially if the "movement" you're supposed to be seeing isn't obvious. If it came up around the second or third house, it was no big deal. But once I got closer to being done, it really frustrated me.
I appreciate how The Cabin Factory builds upon this new walking simulator area of the horror game genre established by The Exit 8, as it does really make picking out anomalies feel critical and helpful in understanding what's happening. The implementation of some story elements adds insights that might even make it more scary for some people. However, I do think maybe it needs a patch or two with some balancing or adjustments to make sure there aren't situations that might feel unwinnable. But if you do like these types of horror experience, it's a fun one.
Cabin Factory is available on PCs via Steam.
