Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti gaming GPU to launch in weeks, new leak suggests

We could soon get our first official look at the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 in just a few weeks. A new leak is suggesting that Nvidia's budget-friendly graphics cards will be officially announced on April 15, with 8GB and 16GB RTX 5060 Ti variants set to go on sale the next day, and a 8GB non-Ti RTX 5060 hitting shelves a few weeks later.

These new Nvidia graphics cards are unlikely to be competing with the RTX 5090 on performance. While the company hasn't officially announced them yet, we'll be expecting the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 to try and dominate the lower end of the GPU market. AMD is pushing back hard with stiff competition, however, and with the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT already crowned the best graphics card for most gamers, Nvidia is going to need a serious success if it wants to stay ahead.

The CS series recently hit its tenth anniversary, marked by a big overhaul to some of Cities Skylines 2's key features. What are the best Atomfall settings for PC and Steam Deck? While there are prettier games to play than Atomfall, this new survival game still brings plenty of detail at its highest settings and, more importantly, achieving a high frame rate is fairly simple.

The Atomfall system requirements left a lot to the imagination, with no AMD hardware listed, and only a minimum tier offered to players. Thankfully, PC performance in Atomfall is pretty strong without the need for help from the likes of Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR.

AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics cards spotted with 8GB and 16GB variants

The first signs of AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT gaming GPUs have been spotted in an official government database, suggesting that their launch isn't too far away. While AMD hasn't yet officially announced these new graphics cards, the appearance of these Asus branded cards on a South Korean government database provides a firm clue that the GPU will have 8GB and 16GB VRAM variants.

AMD launched the new RX 9070 XT to huge acclaim just weeks ago, with the GPU becoming the best graphics card for the average gamer, offering great performance for only $599 at MSRP. AMD will be hoping it strikes gold again with RX 9060 series cards, with the lineup likely to be priced around $250-350 dollars to compete with the RTX 5060 Ti.

FF14 patch notes confirm rumored Black Mage changes, and they're divisive

My first ever FF14 character was a Black Mage. Enticed by the allure of elemental magic having played everything from Ice Mage to Shadow Priest in World of Warcraft, it felt like the perfect fit. As I pulled up to Ul'dah and Sultana Dreaming began to play, I knew that Eorzea was something special. But as of late I've found myself drifting away from spellcasters, and Black Mage specifically, favoring Monk and Ninja over ranged DPS. But, as spotted by eagle-eyed fans during the last Live Letter and now confirmed in the latest round of FF14 patch notes, Black Mage has been reworked considerably, splitting the playerbase down the middle.

     Best CPU coolers 2025

What is the best CPU cooler? There's a diverse range of CPU coolers that cater to both casual users and PC gaming enthusiasts. For most home users, the key criteria of a good CPU cooler are that it should keep your CPU cool while remaining quiet, though some users may want all-out cooling performance over noise suppression or need a super low-profile cooler to fit in a tiny PC. Whatever your needs, we've got a CPU cooler for you.

The world of gaming PC CPU coolers may seem daunting, but fear not! We've assembled a list of the best CPU coolers from reliable brands like Noctua, Cooler Master, Be quiet!, MSI, and NZXT. We've crafted a dedicated guide just for the best AIO cooler options, and if you're wondering how to overclock your CPU, we can help with that too.

When picking a CPU cooler, ask yourself what your budget is, what space your case has, whether you care about making a fancy-looking interior to your case, and how much you care about noise. In general, quality air coolers are the best bet for most systems, as they can be quite cheap while being quiet. However, they can be big, bulky, and difficult to install. Instead, for a cleaner-looking build and an easier installation, all-in-one (AIO) water coolers are your best bet, but they can be a touch noisier and more costly too.

The best Assassin's Creed Shadows mods

What are the best Assassin's Creed Shadows mods? At PCGamesN we firmly believe there are a few games that won't benefit from a well-crafted mod or two. AC Shadows is no exception to this, and whether it's something small like minor texture tweaks or more concerted attempts to improve parkour, AC's modding scene jumped on Ubisoft's latest as soon as it landed.

From our AC Shadows review playthrough it's clear there's plenty of room for improvement. Though Assassin's Creed Shadows Valhalla's mod offering wasn't quite as transformational as some of the other open-world RPGs that have come and gone, we have nonetheless persevered with our shortlist of AC Shadows mods we expect to see, as well as our wishlist of what we'd like to see.

Whether you prefer to get up close and personal or pick off enemies from afar, there's a weapon out there in the quarantine zone to suit every playstyle.

The best weapons in Atomfall can help you infiltrate the most protected strongholds on the Atomfall map, letting you engage in scrappy melee or tactical firefights with the best chances of walking away unscathed. Training manuals are consumable items that reveal hidden Atomfall skills, letting you spend your training stimulants on abilities that best complement your playstyle. However, you've also probably noticed that these weapons are rusty, slow, and less powerful than you'd like. Thankfully, there's an easy way to fix that.

While it's not immediately apparent in the sandbox game's early hours, guns in Atomfall have three tiers of quality: rusty, stock, and pristine. While you can pick stock-tier weapons in the military complex around Skethermoor Prison, the best Atomfall weapons must be upgraded.

Paradox have announced that 4X space strategy game Stellaris's next major overhaul will launch on 5th May, alongside the game's BioGenesis DLC pack. The latter adds living spaceships together with new civics, traits and megastructures, but I'm more interested in the 4.0 update, which they're branding the "phoenix update" in that it aims to overhaul performance problems caused by the 4X game's update-bloated systems, while making "guidance and pacing" changes with new players in mind.

It doesn't sound nearly as exciting on the surface as living spaceships, I'll grant you, but this is a 4X game, don't forget - the mythological firebird is in the detail.

♫ Stabbing a man. Stabbing a man. Sometimes in Greece. Sometimes in Japan. Stabbing a man. Sometimes in a meadow. Here is our verdict on Assassin's Creed Shadows

Nic: To kick off this verdict, I have no choice but to ask my most insightful question: how Assassin-y is this Assassin's Creed Game?

Jeremy: This is the first AssCreed game I've engaged with since Assassin's Creed II, which I watched my roommate play through in university. So my opinion is not especially scientific, but from what I've seen it is very Assassin-y. The story – which is serviceable if not anything original – revolves around tackling a group of masked bad guys known as the Onryo (that's Japanese for ghost), who are introduced with cool chanbara-style music. You've got to kill all of them, and sometimes you have to kill other folks who are connected with them, and in general there is a whole lot of assassinating going on, either with Naoe (who slices and dices with the standard hidden blade) or Yasuke (who has a 'brutal' assassination where he shoves his katana into someone's face).

When Lords of the Fallen came out in 2014, it was interesting to see another developer daring to mimic From Software's Souls formula. But now that it's a whole genre, seeing another big-budget soulslike just doesn't feel special anymore - even Star Wars has had a crack at it. So what's The First Berserker: Khazan bringing to the table? What fresh twist or novel setting makes this soulslike stand out? To be frank, I can't see one. If I were to be as reductive as possible, I'd say it simply takes some core ideas from Nioh, and slaps Sekiro's parry on top.

Some of you might read that and think this anime-eyed action RPG sounds derivative. Others will probably salivate with glee. Well, both reactions make sense. There's absolutely nothing original about The First Berserker: Khazan. It might also be the most fun I've had playing a soulslike in years.

Earlier this month I had the chance to check out Remedy's forthcoming Control spin-off game FBC: Firebreak, which casts you as a bunch of weaponised office gremlins fighting the extra-dimensional Hiss and other "paranatural" lifeforms in the corridors of the Oldest House. The game is a co-op first-person shooter, which is a bit of a departure from the likes of Alan Wake 2. How, if at all, has Remedy had to change to make a game like Firebreak? Have they, for example, hired up a bunch of seasoned FPS devs? I put the question to game director Mike Kayatta and Remedy's comms director Thomas Puha.

Sorry Australians, you can't confront the horrifying psychological manifestations of your inner turmoil. It would be too much for you, according to the government. The country's classification board recently refused to grant upcoming horror game Silent Hill f an age rating, essentially preventing it from being sold in the country unless certain elements of the game are toned down or altered by Konami. But it's possible the developer will do just that, as the classification board has retracted their ruling. At least for the time being.

I want to believe the GPU gods are finally throwing us a bone. MSI RTX 5070 Ti 16G Shadow 3X OC is actually available on Amazon UK right now for £729. That's not a typo. It's in stock, sold and shipped by Amazon, and somehow not priced into orbit. When scalpers are still charging north of £1000 for this card, seeing a legit listing for retail price feels like someone left the vault door open and forgot to sound the alarm.

Capcom Figure Builder Creators Model of Tamamitsune aka Mizutsune from Monster Hunter

Capcom has revealed that it will restock its Monster Hunter figure of Mizutsune, a character which debuted in Generations. The product, which is part of the Capcom Figure Builder Creators' Model line, will be available once again in late September 2025.

The figure of Mizutsune, which is originally known in Japan as Tamamitsune, appeared first on May 25, 2017, which was in-between the Japanese releases of Monster Hunter XX (Generations Ultimate) on the 3DS and Switch in the same year. But while the figure back then was purchasable for 13,200 yen, the new re-release will have a higher price tag of 16,500 yen. People residing outside of Japan, however, can now order the figure from the Japanese e-Capcom storefront via the WorldShopping widget at around $110.70.

This trailer from the original 2017 release also shows how the figure looks from various angles:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYfAcu_Geik

Capcom had also previously released a rage mode variant of the monster simultaneously in 2017. In addition, the company released another variant based on the Violet Mizutsune rare species, which debuted in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, in August 2023. This new restock will only feature the original Mizutsune figure.

Mizutsune, one of the flagship monsters in Monster Hunter Generations, has also become one of the series' popular monsters as it returned in Monster Hunter Rise. The same monster is also slated to appear in the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC game Monster Hunter Wilds via the first major title update coming in April 2025.

The Capcom Figure Builder Creators' Model of Mizutsune from the Monster Hunter series will be available again on September 25, 2025.

Honkai: Star Rail Special Program for 3.2 Airs This Week

HoYoVerse confirmed and set the Honkai: Star Rail Special Program air date and details for the 3.2 showcase. It will air at 4:30am PT/7:30am ET on March 28, 2025. The image teasing it only highlights Pom Pom, so it is unknown who could appear as the "hosts." As usual, it will appear on Twitch and YouTube.

While we don't know who will "host" the presentation, we do know the two characters who will be the new additions in the update. Both Anaxagoras and Castorice will join the game in 3.2. Both are Chrysos Heir characters that are from Amphoreus. These are folks that are expys of the Flame-Chasers from Honkai Impact 3rd. Castorice could be this universe's take on Griseo, while Anaxa could be inspired by Kosma. Some of the comparisons are more obvious, as Mydei is clearly based on Kalpas, Agalaea seems to be Aponia, and Phainon is Kevin.

Other staples will come up during the presentation. For example, we'll learn about the latest Trailblaze Mission during the showcase. Additional events will be revealed. So will codes for Stellar Jades.

Here's the YouTube placeholder ahead of the 3.2 Honkai: Star Rail Special Program airdate:

Silent Hill f Refused Classification

The Classification Board in Australia has no longer refused classification for Silent Hill f, despite reports over the past weekend. The upcoming horror game is now awaiting classification ahead of its release. This update came after Stevivor received an official comment from the board regarding the new game's status. [Thanks, Stevivor!]

The Australian Classification Board initially featured a page that revealed Silent Hill f had been refused classification, meaning it was effectively banned from sale in the country. However, this appears to be an automatic classification provided through the IARC Global Rating Tool, which publishers can use to self-report the content of their game.

However, it's historically been a problem in Australia, where games tend to get an automatic rating higher than the one assigned by the Classification Board itself. Games such as We Happy Few and Kingdom Come: Deliverance have also been reported to have been refused for classification through this system, despite releasing in Australia without issue. A recent statement from the Board itself has confirmed that Silent Hill f is still awaiting a rating and has not been refused classification in Australia.

The Australian Classification Board has a rocky history with video games. This is due to the highest rating (R 18+) originally not being applied to games in the way they would for movies. This was changed in 2013, but its requirements remain strict. Games which feature drug use as a form of reward, sexual violence or "high impact violence" are usually refused classification. Silent Hill f's Steam page features a warning about the game containing child abuse and drug-induced hallucinations. These are likely reasons for why the system initially claimed the game has been refused classification.

Silent Hill f is the next upcoming game in Konami's horror series. Originally announced in 2022, a full trailer was shown off at the latest Silent Hill Transmission in March 2025. It will be set in Japan during the 1960s and features a story written by Ryukishi07 (When They Cry series).

Silent Hill f is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

dark deity 2 review combat screenshot

In 2021, we took a deep look at Dark Deity, a tactical RPG from indie developer Chip Moore and his studio, Sword & Axe. Four years later, the team delivered the sequel Dark Deity 2 that looks to build on the first's world and ideas to make something a bit larger and more polished.

Narratively, Dark Deity 2 takes the path of many before it: it's a story sequel and it'd love if you cared about the old characters, but it's not crucial. The game takes place 25 years after the first, so you'll see some of the old party members, but a lot of the core crew is a new generation. The writing's a lot stronger, too — it helps to bring on a dedicated writer, so well done — though we did find ourselves losing a bit of patience in a few of the more verbose scenes. The best consequence of a stronger focus on story is the opportunity it gives players to make meaningful choices. A few times during the game, you'll choose a side in a fight, making different allies and sometimes seeing entire factions wiped from the map.

Though the first game wasn't shy about its influences, Dark Deity 2 feels like it moves just a shade closer to its main inspiration in a lot of areas: classic Fire Emblem. Rather than the four different weapon trees of the original, this sequel sees a move to equippable weapons. The upgrade items for skills and stats are similar in frequency and use. Even characters feel a bit more Fire Emblem-y.

dark deity 2 review map screenshot
Screenshot by Siliconera

One area in which it doesn't feel like Fire Emblem is its pace and focus on objective-based maps. Dark Deity 2 essentially treats every chapter like a special event, with the pressure on and multiple priorities to juggle. You'll need to protect and rescue civilians, seize particular points on the map and fend off waves of reinforcements, all within a tight turn limit. (There is a difficulty that removes the time restriction, if that's a dealbreaker for you.)

Whether that pace feels overwhelming will likely hinge on how often you use training maps. The game offers a rotating selection of ten training maps, and these are much more generic "defeat all the baddies in your own time" fare. Challenging one costs 1,000 gold, allowing you to grind up units' levels if you want but making it come at the expense of upgrades and weapons.

There's also a change that makes it a bit more tolerable to bring underleveled units into battle. The first Dark Deity felt built around its "grave wounds" system: permanent stat decreases instead of permanent death. This sequel makes that less severe, with penalties that last for the next chapter or so. You'll still try to avoid it, but most of the time it happened for us, we found ourselves shrugging and just taking the penalty for a map.

menu classes sword axe indie io siliconera
Screenshot by Siliconera

Dark Deity 2 comes much closer than its predecessor to nailing its target aesthetic. The first one had excellently animated attacks, but the maps were less professional (even after a much-needed revamp) and the interface didn't follow the pixel art look. This time around, the map sprites are charming, the environments feel like they're done with more care and there's even a pixel font in the menus that largely fits in with the resolution of the other art. The character art is still jarringly high-resolution, unfortunately, but it largely gets away with it.

That said, there are still elements of the game that show that it's a small-team Game Maker project. Maps have an extra row and column that you can't reach but your cursor can move into, losing itself off the screen. We don't have an exact answer why, but we'd guess it's a workaround for some limitation of the game engine. The enemy ranges, which many players keep on permanently as a nice help, don't update with reinforcements or when terrain changes, so you have to toggle it off and on again like you're running IT support. And the "ally" movements are often less than ideal, either idling out of the way instead of helping or running full-speed into enemy territory to their inevitable deaths.

siliconera dark deity 2 review screenshot conversation
Screenshot by Siliconera

Dark Deity 2 is far from perfect, and it could use a few rounds of post-launch polish. But it's a strong step forward from the first game's base, adding and refining smartly to make something within their means that's still engaging to play. We hope they're able to keep delivering games like this in the future!

Dark Deity 2, developed by Fire & Axe and published by Indie.io, launches March 24, 2025 on Steam.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Delayed Again

People have still been keeping an eye out for any Hollow Knight: Silksong news, and there have been a few recent developments regarding Steam and GeForce Now. A user on the GeForce Now subreddit spotted that Team Cherry had opted into the service for the sequel. This is not concrete evidence of the game being released anytime soon, as those who have been keeping track might remember that it was confirmed as coming day one to Xbox Game Pass in 2022. However, the Steam page now lists 2025 as its year too. [Thanks, TheSpartan121!]

Few updates on Hollow Knight: Silksong appeared ever since the sequel was first announced in 2019. While there have been small amounts of information given about Team Cherry's upcoming Metroidvania over the years, such as a Nintendo Direct appearance, but no new, full trailer or concrete release window has been shared. The last we heard about the game was that development was going well, but that it was much larger than initially planned and would be delayed from its early-2023 release date. We were also told we'd find out more closer to launch.

However, this isn't the only update for the long-awaited game. Team Cherry recently updated the copyright on the game on Steam from 2019 to 2025. It was mentioned in a March 18, 2025 ID@Xbox blog post which read, "Looking ahead, our lineup is incredible with upcoming games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Descenders Next, and FBC: Firebreak to play across the whole Xbox universe… and of course Hollow Knight: Silksong too!"

Hollow Knight: Silksong is in development and should appear on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Love and Deepspace Caleb Myth Banner Event

Now that Caleb returned in the otome mobile game Love and Deepspace, Infold Games announced his Myth Memories units and an event to go with them. The event is Fallen Cosmos, and it starts on March 28, 2025. We can attempt to pull on the gacha to get the new Solar Memory Pair until April 11, 2025. The free event with a four-star Solar Memory Pair is called Gravity Calls.

How these work is that Memory Pairs in Love and Deepspace give you enhanced bonuses if the two are both owned, equipped, and enhanced. This time, the two five-star Memories are called Caleb: Loneroad Unreturned and Caleb: Loneroad Together. Both have stories tied to them that involve another "life" that the player character and Caleb lived together ahead of the main story in the game. It is possible to "guarantee" you get at least one of both, but that will mean needing to pull 150 times on the banner. Getting both also unlocks Caleb: Ultimate Weapon X-02 as a playable character in-battle.

Here is how those Love and Deepspace Caleb Myth five-star Solar units and the playable character look:

And here's the trailer tied to them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tzXAzoL17o&t=1s

As for the free event and cards, that also runs between March 28, 2025 and April 11, 2025. We can earn the four-star Solar Memory Pair Caleb: Farewell Dreamscape and Caleb: Farewell Intimacy based on his Myth. It is also possible to get a three-star Lunar Memory called Caleb: The Termination, 10 free pulls for the new banner, 500 Diamonds, a Floating Lull Duo Photo Pose to use with Caleb, the Paradise Founder A-01 Title, the Winged Voyage Chat Bubble, the "Rebirth in Destruction" BGM song used in the event, and stickers to use in your photos.

Here is how the four-star Solar Love and Deepspace Caleb Myth Memories look:

While Caleb debuted when the game launched as part of the story, he wasn't added as a love interest in the otome game until 3.0.

The otome game Love and Deepspace is available for mobile devices. The Caleb Myth Fallen Cosmos banner and Gravity Falls event start on March 28, 2025.

As an official ending theme song, the Hoshimachi Suisei song will complement Kenshi Yonezu's "Plazma," which has become the opening theme song for the regular TV run of Gundam GQuuuuuuX. However, those two are not the only pop songs that have been featured in the anime show. The movie also featured Nomelon Nolemon's "Midnight Reflection" as another insert song, but it remains to be seen whether the latter will also appear in the regular TV run or not.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX will launch on Japanese television channels on April 9, 2025, past midnight JST. Prime Video will exclusively upload the earliest streams of the episodes soon after the Japanese premiere. The episodes will also appear on other streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+ two days later.

Venom in Guilty Gear Strive

Arc System Works has released Venom as a new DLC character for Guilty Gear Strive. Although the character's release was delayed from the initial window at the beginning of 2025, the company kept its subsequent promise of releasing him within March 2025.

The company's official site indicates that Venom is so far available on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC versions of the fighting game. While Queen Dizzy appeared later on the Switch and arcade versions for free, Switch version players will have to prepare additional funds to unlock Venom. The Japanese webpage confirms that Venom will only be available as a paid DLC character, along with the next two anime-based Season 4 characters: Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers' Unika and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' Lucy.

Arc System Works has also published multiple trailers related to the character on its YouTube channel. The first one is the character showcase trailer with Japanese voiceovers by Junichi Suwabe:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO6JlcuSRCw

The next trailer is a close copy of the above, but it instead features English voiceovers by Howard Wang:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ds4zgV8ZW4

Arc System Works also uploaded a Starter Guide video that explains Venom's move list. As shown in the above showcase trailers, a partial Robo-Ky will also make cameo appearances in several attacks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh0aqa-3xWs

The fourth and final new trailer lets people listen to Venom's theme song, "A Tenth of Myself." This song also features vocals by NAOKI.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNEaOqhmK5A

Venom is now available as a DLC character for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC releases of Guilty Gear Strive. The same character will appear later in the Nintendo Switch and Arcade versions of the fighting game.

Battling a monster in Mo.Co

Every hunter needs to have an arsenal of gadgets as a means to further their survivability. You'll have a few items to work with initially, but they aren't exactly the best in the business. So, if you are curious about setting up your build, here's our Mo.Co gadget tier list.

Best Mo.Co Gadgets, ranked

The Splash Heal is the very first gadget you'll receive in Mo.Co, acting as a starter kit for your hunter journey. While it does lend a hand in support, other items lean more towards offensive strategies. We'll begin this Mo.Co tier list with the elite S tier and work our way down to the relatively adequate C ranks.

S Tier

Mo.Co S Tier Gadgets

Gadgets Description
Vitamin Shot Increases attack speed and heals you and your pets.
Multi Zapper Launches 12 zaps to damage a random enemy and stun non-boss monsters.

Since the Vitamin Shot helps out with healing and attacks, it may be one of the most well-rounded gadgets in Mo.Co. Its cooldown rate of 10 seconds can also go by rather quickly, giving you more opportunities to use it in battle. While the Multi-Zapper takes a bit to boot up, this gadget boasts the highest DPS in Mo.Co. Plus, it'll stun nearby monsters to help you out even more.

A Tier

A Tier Mo.Co Gadgets

Gadgets Description
Monster Taser Tases the nearest enemy and deals big damage, stunning non-boss monsters.
Pepper Spray Deals area damage multiple times and slow down non-monsters.
Snow Globe Deals area damage around you and over time across a large radius. Slows down all non-boss monsters.
Spicy Dagger Dash towards the closest enemy and deal damage, resulting in 25 percent more damage from your weapon, gadgets, passives, and pets temporarily. Non-boss monsters are also slowed down.

If you're tired of waiting for gadget cooldowns, the Monster Taser is the perfect remedy, refreshing every five seconds. Use it to inflict high amounts of damage on a monster and stun nearby enemies. All in all, the entirety of A Tier is designed for tremendous DPS rates, clearing out those pesky monsters in an instant.

B Tier

Mo.Co B Tier Gadgets
Screenshot by Destructoid

Gadgets Description
Splash Heal Instantly heals you and nearby friendly targets in a large area.
Boombox Deals area damage around you and stuns non-boss monsters.
Life Jacket Shields yourself and your pets temporarily. Deals area damage and stun non-boss monsters when it expires.
Revitalizing Mist Instantly heals you or a friendly target with the lowest health within range.
Really Cool Sticker Your weapon and pets deal extra damage for a short duration.

The B Tier Mo.Co gadgets cater to specific playstyles, particularly if you're a support-heavy hunter. Items like Splash Heal, Life Jacket, and Revitalizing Mist are excellent for these types of players; however, they aren't so great for offense. Fortunately, you can save it as a secondary gadget slot and utilize the other one for attack buffs.

The rest of the B-tier gadgets can be used by those who want to improve their offense. They won't be as powerful as the S and A Tiers, yet they do have some benefits with decent damage rates.

C Tier

C Tier Mo.Co Gadgets
Screenshot by Destructoid

Gadgets Description
Smart Fireworks Use to launch five enemy-seeking fireworks that deal area damage at a long-range.
Explosive 6-Pack Jump and drop bombs in midair to deal area damage.

Although the Smart Fireworks come in handy during the beginning stages, they won't be as helpful later on. The other gadgets are just way more robust than this item, but I still suggest using the Smart Fireworks as a starter kit and then advancing further to higher tiers. The same goes for the Explosive 6-Pack, which only has some advantages for DPS.

D Tier

Mo.Co D Tier Gadgets
Screenshot by Destructoid

Gadgets Description
Super Loud Whistle Taunts monsters to attack you and heals yourself over time.
Shelldon Summon Shelldon to fight alongside you, dealing area damage and taunting monsters to attack him. Shelldon's strong armor makes him take 50 percent less damage.

The Super Loud Whistle may be one of the worst gadgets to use in Mo.Co, especially since all surrounding monsters will start gunning for you. Despite its healing properties, opting for the Splash Heal is best. That way, you can replenish your health without any enemies coming for you.

Like the whistle, Shelldon is also relatively ineffective, as it doesn't stay too long on the battlefield. This gadget's ability to take in 50 percent less damage doesn't work all the time, so it's pretty easy for the enemy to knock it out.

GTA 6 trailer image

Something might be coming for GTA 6 on March 25 — at least if the internet's theory about Game Informer turns out to be true.

It's pretty normal at this point for GTA 6 fans to hold on to any hint of possible news, especially since it's been over a year since the game's first trailer dropped. That trailer confirmed a Fall 2025 release window and that the game would come to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar and Take-Two have also all but confirmed that a GTA 6 PC version will come later.

There's a special reason some people are sure a big reveal is coming pretty soon.

GTA 6 fans firmly believe big news is coming on March 25 with Game Informer

Game Informer, the long-running gaming magazine, is coming back on March 25. It's known for getting exclusive previews of past GTA games, including Vice City, San Andreas, GTA 4, and GTA 5. The timing of its return has people excited. The magazine shut down in August 2024, but now it's coming back — right when GTA 6 hype is building again. That's why fans think it could feature a big GTA 6 cover story as part of its comeback.

But it's important to say: this is all just fan speculation. Rockstar, Take-Two, and Game Informer haven't confirmed anything. Still, here's what the theory is about and why it's getting so much attention.

https://twitter.com/gameinformer/status/1902390690556043554

It would be a huge return for a magazine with a lot of history, and it would fit perfectly with Rockstar's slow but steady build-up. Still, Game Informer hasn't teased anything about GTA 6, and Rockstar has been pretty quiet too. The company recently launched a Discord server that includes a GTA 6 channel—but there hasn't been any real news shared there either. So, while the timing feels right, it's still just a theory.

But even if everyone is right and we get news tomorrow, we have no news about how Game Informer is returning on March 25, or if we'll only get an announcement of when their new first issue will come — if they do come back with a magazine, not with some other format like video or daily online news.

If anything is going to happen, fans believe we'll hear something in the early hours of March 25, likely in the afternoon U.S. time — similar to when Rockstar dropped the first trailer. And if Game Informer really does have something GTA 6-related planned, we can probably expect Rockstar to share extra official details around the same time.

Pokémon GO Bug Out 2025 artwork featuring Kleavor and Sizzlipede

The Bug Out event in Pokémon GO is the annual celebration of all things Bug-type, and this year sees the debut of two particularly creepy crawlies: Sizzlipede and Centiskorch. There's a lot of bug-based bonuses happening between March 26 and March 30.

I can't say I'm a particular fan of Bug-types; anything with more than four legs makes me react pretty viscerally. But there are some cute ones, and I can see the appeal of them against Grass, Dark, and Psychic-types. If you want to build an army of bug-mon, there's never a better time than during this event!

All Pokémon GO Bug Out 2025 bonuses

During the Bug Out 2025 event, which runs from 10am (local time) on March 26 to 8pm (local time) on March 30, not only will Sizzlipede and its evolution Centiskorch make their GO debut, but there will be an increased chance of encountering Shiny Wurmple and Venipede, and increased spawns for other Bug-types as well.

Themed Field, Timed, and Special Research will be available for the duration of the event, and collection challenges will also feature. Tier one and three raids will feature Bug-types, too. To put it bluntly, we're all going to be surrounded by bugs and we might as well make the most of it.

During the event, all players will be able to benefit from the following in-game bonuses:

  • 2x Catch XP for catching Pokémon with Nice or better throws
  • Increased Candy for catching Pokémon with Nice or better throws

    • One, two, and three additional Candy for Nice, Great, and Excellent respectively

  • Increased chance to receive Candy XL for catching Pokémon with Nice or better throws
  • When using a Lure Module, if enough Pokémon are caught, additional Pokémon will be lured to the PokéStop

Of course, the biggest news of this event is Sizzlipede and Centiskorch, who will begin to appear at the beginning of the event, even more likely when using a Lure Module. I'd recommend a Mossy Lure Module, for maximum Bug-type spawns!

The following Pokémon will also appear in the wild more frequently, regardless of if a Lure Module is used:

  • Caterpie
  • Weedle
  • Wurmple
  • Nincada
  • Venipede
  • Dwebble

  • Joltik
  • Grubbin
  • Cutiefly
  • Dewpider
  • Nymble

The Hideout in the morning sun

Every ninja deserves a place to build up their strength; in Assassin's Creed Shadows, that place is the Hideout's mostly optional source of additional resources, buffs, and helpful systems, so knowing what upgrades to get first is key.

The best Hideout upgrades in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Assassin's Creed Shadows has three categories of Hideout buildings: Main Rooms, Themed Rooms, and Engawa. Each category has several buildings you can install for Mon and various upgrade materials. The main rooms should be where you start, as those six will be the easiest and fastest to either build or unlock. Do the following upgrades first:

Stables level two

The level two Stables Hideout upgrade
Screenshot by Destructoid

The first purchase you'll make at the Hideou the Kakurega during the tutorial granting one Scout "for free," but the first and most important upgrade you can make after that is Stables level two. The Hideout starts with a Stables installed, so there's no upfront cost to build one, and the level two upgrade is important for a couple of reasons:

  • It costs one Scout to tag and retrieve Stockpiles instead of two.
  • Lower Stockpile retrieval cost means more materials each season, provided you raid the resource sheds scattered about the game.

Odds are you're going to do some looting around Stockpiles, which are large collections of materials marked by a wooden barrel icon on the map and HUD. Unless you're speedrunning the story, only needing to spend a single Scout to retrieve those resources lets you get more for much less effort.

Study level two

The level three Kakurega Hideout upgrade
Screenshot by Destructoid

Upgrading the Study to level two is a bit on the costlier side, but the benefits are well worth it. You get one extra Scout per level, and level one decreases the area you need to search objectives by 25%. That takes your total available Scouts to five, ensuring you have a much easier time finding any quest NPC or item you need.

You'll also be able to nab up to two extra Stockpiles, which almost pay for the upgrade by themselves. And if you run out of Scouts, just wait a little while for next season. You can even move time forward if you're outside a main story mission to expedite the process.

Kakurega level three

The level three Kakurega Hideout upgrade
Screenshot by Destructoid

Getting the Kakurega up to level three is by far the costliest upgrade I'm recommending here, but getting it done early will save you so much money in the long run. You're required to get Level one, and this awards an extra Scout (already accounted for in the Stables entry) and the ability to purchase other Kakurega out in the world for a base value of 800 Mon. These additional Kakurega provide a fast travel point outside the synchronization viewpoint, as well as access to contracts outside the Hideout.

Kakurega level two isn't amazing, helping discover points of interest near them. Level three is where the money is (or isn't, in this case). After the third upgrade, every Kakurega you purchase will cost 30% less, or 665 Mon per unit. Even if you only unlock a few of them, that 240 Mon you save can go to literally anything else.

The other Main Rooms you can do at your leisure. The Forge is incredibly valuable, as it lets you keep any Legendary gear you find at or close to your level. You'll spend a few Mon and some materials to level it up, with higher levels asking a higher price. The Dojo is last, and is more of a nice to have. It allows you to call in allies you recruit during your adventures and keep them in step with you, power-wise.

Calling in allies is a powerful tool but not nearly as useful as flat cost reductions or cost savings.

Best themed rooms to get first in Assassin's Creed Shadows

The Zashiki themed room Hideout build menu
Screenshot by Destructoid

There are nine Themed Rooms available, and while the buffs provided by some of them aren't quite as far-reaching as those of the Main Rooms, they're still worth investing in. I've listed them in the order you should unlock them, though understand that some of the best, like the Tera and Zashiki, don't unlock until you progress far enough to play as Yasuke, and many sometime after that. You can, of course, unlock them as they become available, provided you have the materials and Mon.

Room Effect
Tera Increases all experience gained by 10%.
Zashiki Increases the healing effects of rations by 20%.
Tea Room Increase the healing effects of rations by 20%.
Nando Replenishing Scouts at a Kakurega costs 30% less.
Jinja Praying grants a 15-minute boon. All shrine boon effects are 20%.
Gallery Display your gear. No other in-game effect.
Small Room Can be decorated. No other in-game effect.
Medium Room Can be decorated. No other in-game effect.
Large Room Can be decorated. No other in-game effect.

The last of the Hideout building types is the Engawa, which provides in-game effects. They're purely aesthetic, allowing you to create outdoor, covered hallways between your Main and Themed Rooms.

As with all the optional content in Assassin's Creed Shadows, the Hideout is yours to unlock or leave alone. There are tons of benefits to engaging with the system, from the extra fast travel points to additional resources and other benefits.

If you're looking to level up fast in Assassin's Creed Shadows, we've got guides for that and much more.

Naoe, Sorin, and Jinchiro looking serious

Out of all the side activities in Assassin's Creed Shadows, completing contracts is probably the most financially rewarding for its cost. These small, optional missions are a great way to fill an empty bank account or shore up resource numbers. Here's how they work.

How to unlock contracts in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Selecting a contract from the file box
Screenshot by Destructoid

To unlock contracts in Assassin's Creed Shadows, progress the story until you return to Tomiko's homestead following the prologue. From there, you need to construct the Kakurega building, which, coincidentally, is your first objective once you unlock Hideout customization. Head into the Kakurega and interact with the small filing box on the ground to choose between your first three contract options.

The Sakai Kakurega map marker
Screenshot by Destructoid

You can unlock other Kakegura buildings around larger settlements and cities once the one at your base is completed. These cost 800 Mon by default, but they are permanent upgrades. Each has its own contract file box and acts as a fast travel point. In other words, if you have the Mon to buy them, it's always a good idea to unlock a Kakegura.

How to complete contracts in Assassin's Creed Shadows

The quest complete screen after completing a contract
Screenshot by Destructoid

Completing contracts is always fairly straightforward, though you can only have three active at a time per region. Their objectives come in a few varieties, including:

  • Steal loot from an encampment, rewarding EXP and Hideout materials
  • Kill specific enemies, awarding EXP and Mon
  • Destroy a target, awarding EXP and gear crafting materials

Once you accept a contract, its quest marker will appear on the map, and you can track it like any other mission. You can track them from the contracts menu you access via the file box, but you cannot access it from the Objectives menu.

A loot supplies contract map marker
Screenshot by Destructoid

Contracts will almost always take you to otherwise unmarked locations or those too small and remote to warrant even a question mark on your map. They're almost always minor enemy encampments with a few rank-and-file soldiers plus an elite leader. These enemies get tougher the farther you progress in the game.

Naoe ready to assassinate a leader enemy
Screenshot by Destructoid

Note that you don't have to clear out every enemy to complete a contract unless the objective specifically directs you to do so. For supply gathering and target destruction contracts, for instance, you can run in, do what you need, and get out. There is no penalty for breaking stealth, taking damage, etc. So long as you loot the container or interact enough to destroy the target, you'll get the Mission Complete pop-up and rewards.

I'd always suggest having a full complement of contracts active, even if they aren't your main objective. You might pass by one on your way, and they never take much more than a few minutes to complete. And besides, getting side-tracked is a part of the open-world experience, so why not indulge a bit?

Oda Nobunaga and Yasuka on horses next to marching armies

In the lead-up to the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows, there was a modest amount of noise made about how it was Steam Deck Verified. That means it was more than playable on Valve's handheld, but now that Shadows is out, how does it actually run?

Assassin's Creed Shadows Steam Deck performance

  • The Assassin's Creed Shadows Osaka Japan skyline at dusk on PC
  • The Assassin's Creed Shadows Osaka Japan skyline at dusk on the Steam Deck

While Assassin's Creed Shadows is Deck Verified, it doesn't run flawlessly out the gate. I have a Steam Deck OLED, and when I first loaded into the game, it was chugging. Fine-tuning the settings, however, did wonders. I found that I could run the game at a mostly steady 30 FPS in most situations with a few alterations, which you can see in the above screenshot taken at the peak of Osaka Castle. Higher volumes of physics objects or other one-screen data still caused some hitching now and again.

Here's one of the main issues, though. The Steam Deck version of AC Shadows has a very limited selection of graphics settings, a grand departure from other Verified games. You cannot adjust individual image quality settings like textures, shadows, volumetrics, reflections, or other bandwidth-hungry aspects.

Instead, you're limited to a few resolution, upscaling, and field of view settings. These restrictions aren't a huge hindrance, as the game is optimized enough for the Deck's hardware that you shouldn't need to adjust much, but that you're not allowed to at all is surprising.

Additionally (and though this isn't a "performance" issue), the game is locked behind Ubisoft Connect, even on the Deck. After downloading AC Shadows, you can't start the game until you use the clunky Deck keypad (or linked keyboard) to enter your Ubisoft account information. A mild inconvenience, sure, but one that immediately and permanently soured me on the handheld experience, but just a little.

How to get better performance in Assassin's Creed Shadows on the Steam Deck

The Assasin's Creed Shadows graphics settings on Steam Deck
Screenshot by Destructoid

Assassin's Creed Shadows might not have many levers to pull to increase performance, but what's here is serviceable. To start, here are the settings I ended up using on my OLED Deck for a stable, if a bit sluggish, experience:

  • Field of View: 88%
  • Raytraced Global Illumination: Diffuse Hideout Only
  • Aspect Ratio: 16:9
  • VSync: On
  • Resolution: 1280x720
  • Upscaler Type: TAA
  • Minimum Dynamic Resolution: 20%
  • Maximum Dynamic Resolution: 50%
  • Sharpen Strength: 0.65
  • Frame Generation: Off

Frame Generation is available on the Deck version of AC Shadows, but it trades a massive image quality hit for ten FPS gain on average. The amount of aliasing and distortion was too much of a sacrifice in my book. I'm using TAA over FSR as the image quality is better with TAA, especially for rain and other environmental effects.

Lastly, I find that setting a 30 FPS framerate cap using the Deck's Performance settings helps get a bit more performance. I know that bit of advice is like hearing a broken record, but it's made my experience better nonetheless. Should you be in the market for an in-game improvement to your day, check out our guide on adopting pets in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Two characters attacking each other with swords and axe in Khazan

Souls-like games are always popular if done correctly, and a new one with an anime theme is already a top seller a few days before coming out.

Steam's global top sellers list organizes games by total revenue over a given week. Sous-like hits like Elden Ring and Black Myth: Wukong are often in the top 100, sometimes due to sales propelling them up and other times simply because fans people keep coming back to them. They rank highly in revenue despite fighting big free-to-play games filled with microtransactions, like Apex Legends and Counter-Strike 2.

Now, this new game is already joining the ranks of these classic souls-likes.

The First Berserker: Khazan is one of the most sold games on Steam today

As of March 24, The First Berserker: Khazan is ranked fifth on Steam's Global Top Sellers list, just below the Steam Deck and ahead of the co-op hit Split Fiction. It's also beating every other souls-like game in the platform.

The game is part of the Dungeon & Fighter universe (also known as DNF) and takes place 800 years prior to the events in the first release of the game series, Dungeon Fighter Online. It's a 3D-action RPG with anime art and the usual dark style of souls-like games.

Steam's Global Top Sellers list on March 24.
Screenshot by Destructoid.

The game releases in Steam's Advanced Access—not to be confused with early access—on March 24, with its complete release coming on March 27. Advanced access simply means people who paid more for the game, usually a deluxe edition of some sorts, get to play it a few days before anyone else. It's not a development method like early access, and games in advanced access are ready to play and fully developed, but paywalled for players who paid more than the rest.

The game released to a score of 80 on Metacritic, with positive early reviews from players on Steam. While these are great numbers, they aren't even close to the 97-percent positive reviews that Sledders had on launch.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Yasuke

Yasuke is one of the two playable protagonists in Assassin's Creed Shadows alongside Naoe. While you don't get to play as Yasuke until midway through the game, he is still a fully fleshed-out character and you're able to acquire Mastery Skills for him.

Of course, Yasuke's Mastery Skills are a little different than Naoe's, so here are the best skills to target first.

Best Mastery Skills for Yasuke in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Yasuke is quite different from Naoe in Assassin's Creed Shadows. He doesn't have too many assassin-like qualities, but he can wield a variety of different ranged weapons and has access to other powerful skills that utilize his brute strength.

Since his Mastery Skills are so much different from Naoe's, it can be tough to know which are best. Fortunately, we have selected seven Mastery Skills for Yasuke that you should unlock before any others. The skills are in no particular order.

Brutal Assassination (Samurai)

Brutal Assassination offers Yasuke a way to assassinate enemies just like Naoe. Screenshot by Destructoid

One of the major downsides to Yasuke when you first start playing as him in Shadows is that he can't assassinate opponents. While this doesn't play too big of a factor since Yasuke is so strong, you'll often miss the ability to deal with an enemy quickly. Fortunately, the Brutal Assassination Mastery Skill offers the chance to make Yasuke a little more like Naoe.

The skill is used in the same way as Naoe's assassination attempts. You just press the dedicated button when you're near an enemy. Assassinations aren't guaranteed to kill enemies, but they remove health segments if you can't get a full kill. You can upgrade the Brutal Assassination down the line to remove more health segments and allow Yasuke to assassinate enemies from different angles.

Regeneration (Samurai)

Regeneration is a powerful passive skill that can save you health and rations. Screenshot by Destructoid

Next up is another Mastery Skill from Yasuke's Samurai tree, Regeneration. This is a passive skill that simply allows Yasuke to regenerate health after killing an enemy. While Yasuke has a much higher tolerance for damage than Naoe, you still need to watch out for enemy attacks and keep an eye on your health bar.

Unlocking the Regeneration skill allows you to save rations as Yasuke with free heals. It's not the flashiest skill in Shadows, but it does give you the chance to be even more lethal with Yasuke as he's obliterating every enemy in sight.

Marksman's Shot (Bow)

The bow is an even stronger weapon when you equip it with the right skills. Screenshot by Destructoid

One of the benefits of playing as Yasuke in Shadows is that he has access to some new ranged weapons that Naoe can't use. The bow is one of those ranged weapons and it can be a great tool to take out enemies silently or deal massive damage to enemies that aren't within melee striking distance. To improve the bow's effectiveness, you can unlock the Marksman's Shot skill, which rewards you with a second arrow after hitting a headshot with a Posture Shot.

The second arrow can be activated by clicking the fire button again and allows you to deal more damage at no extra cost. You can chain these headshots together to continually fire off arrows at your helpless enemies.

Clear Mind (Bow)

Clear Mind is a great skill for the bow and allows you to easily hit headshots. Screenshot by Destructoid

We're staying in the bow skill tree and unlocking the Clear Mind skill next. This is a classic Assassin's Creed skill for the bow and Yasuke can utilize it well in Shadows. The skill allows you to slow down time for 10 seconds while aiming with the bow. This gives you extra time to line up a precise headshot and maximize damage to an enemy.

You can only use this skill sparingly, so you want to utilize it properly when you have the chance. Use Clear Mind when you know you need to hit a headshot or you're dealing with a strong enemy who you have some distance on.

Riposte (Long Katana)

Riposte is one of the best early Long Katana skills for Yasuke. Screenshot by Destructoid

From the get-go with Yasuke, you don't have access to a ton of Mastery Skills in the Long Katana tree. One you want to ensure you unlock, though, is called Riposte. This skill allows you to hold and release the parry keybind after blocking an enemy's attack to immediately perform a counterattack. Riposte can deal some serious free damage onto an enemy and you're able to chain it together to essentially never get hit and continually deal damage without pressing the attack button.

Steady Hand (Teppo)

The Teppo is a powerful ranged weapon with access to plenty of good skills, like Steady Hand. Screenshot by Destructoid

The Teppo is the other ranged weapon that Yasuke can equip in Shadows alongside the bow. While it takes longer to load and shoot, the teppo is a terrific long-range weapon that can kill enemies with a single headshot and take off a chunk of an enemy's armor (yellow health bar). You have access to a basic teppo skill right off the bat, and you can also pair it with the Steady Hand passive skill.

Steady Hand allows you to remain perfectly still when aiming and zoom in more on an enemy. If you hit an enemy while Steady Hand is active, you deal an increased 10% damage. You don't normally want to stay perfectly still in combat, so this skill is better when you're not near a group of enemies.

Link Attack allows you to use both of Yasuke's weapons during one combat encounter. Screenshot by Destructoid

Finally, rounding out the list is another Samurai Mastery Skill called Link Attack. Link Attack allows Yasuke to swap between his primary and secondary weapons during an attack combo. The way it works is you initially attack with your currently equipped weapon and then during a combo, you press the weapon swap button to quickly transition to your alternate weapon. With your alternate weapon, you extend the combo and deal more damage to an enemy.

For this to work, you'll need two melee-focused weapons equipped. If you have a ranged weapon equipped, it's more difficult to pull off a quick attack, as you have to aim with it. Equipping a long katana and another melee weapon is the best way to make full use of the Link Attack skill.

And that wraps up our list of the best Mastery Skills to target first with Yasuke in Assassin's Creed Shadows. He's a powerful samurai by default, but these skills make you even tougher to defeat while playing as him.

Atomfall promotional image of a soldier

Atomfall's skills can drastically change how you play, especially if you invest your points into a particular path. If you like being stealthy, there are several options for you. If you're more interested in running into groups while swinging a baseball bat around, you'll have plenty of choices there, too.

However, there's more to Atomfall's skills than just gaining experience points and advancing down a skill tree. You'll need to pick up Training Stimulants and Manuals to unlock new abilities, forcing you to be selective with your choices throughout your playthrough.

How to unlock skills in Atomfall

After completing Atomfall's tutorial, you'll find your skill menu by opening your backpack and scrolling over to Skills. At first, you'll only have three skills available in four skill trees—Ranged Combat, Melee Combat, Survival, and Conditioning—but you'll unlock more using Training Manuals.

Atomfall Skill list
Screenshot by Destructoid

There's a catch, though. Rather than using a standard EXP and skill progression system, you'll instead need Training Stimulants. While some skills require only one, others use up to five or six, making these a necessary resource to look out for as you explore the world.

How to find Training Stimulants in Atomfall

Atomfall Training Stimulant
Screenshot by Destructoid

You'll find Training Stimulants as you explore Atomfall and complete its quests. While some are available in crates within various POIs, others will sit right on countertops in regions like Wyndham Village and Slatten Dale. More often than not, you'll find them accidentally as you progress through the main story or as rewards for completing Lead objectives.

How to find Training Manuals in Atomfall

The second part of upgrading your skills is obtaining Training Manuals. Training Manuals are the key to unlocking specialized skills beyond your starting 12. Since they're specialized, you'll find manuals ranging from Stealth to Crafting and Firearms Mastery books.

Atomfall Stealth manual in Molly's shop
Screenshot by Destructoid

Every book has unique spawn locations, from being available to purchase from merchants to sitting on top of crates in random caves. Others—like the Crafting Manual—are only accessible if you pick the correct dialogue in quest conversations or eliminate NPCs that hold them.

Best skills to unlock in Atomfall

Atomfall has 36 skills to invest in, many of which are locked behind Training Manuals. That said, here are some of the best you can unlock early on:

  • Disarm Traps
  • Charisma
  • Deep Pockets
  • Gunsmith

Generally speaking, early-game Survival skills are your best bet initially, as they let you disarm traps around the map, improve your selling prices with merchants, and let you upgrade your guns. Deep Pockets also increases your crafting material and ammo carrying capacity, making it an all-around helpful buff. However, Deep Pockets and Gunsmith requires obtaining the Crafting training manual from Morris Wick in Wyndham Village during the St. Catherine's Church questline.

Beyond this, the skills you unlock will depend entirely on your preferred playstyle. You can purchase a Stealth Training Manual from Molly Jowett in Slatten Dale, unlocking skills that reduce the noise of your footsteps and takedowns alongside inflicting more damage with stealth kills. Similarly, if you prefer melee combat above all else, you'll have three melee options to pick from initially, with Thick Skin being a beneficial perk.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: actors Nolan North and Troy Baker open a small box, which reveals a bright blue light.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is not just a great game, but a fantastic love letter to the iconic movie franchise. Troy Baker's take on the whip-wielding adventurer goes the extra mile to make it feel like an authentic "Indy" experience.

It's a bit of a shame, therefore, that the game was exclusive to Microsoft (Xbox and PC). However, we'd already heard on the grapevine that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was coming to PS5, and now we have a release date.

https://youtu.be/0VdnmreE1X0

As mentioned in the above trailer, you can expect Great Circle to hit the Sony console on April 17, with an option to pre-order it now. There's also a Collector's Bundle, as well as some additional bonus content available, such as the Temple of Doom outfit and a digital art book.

"What is an adventure without going somewhere new?"

I think we ought to give a little shout-out to the PlayStation 5 trailer. We get to see Nolan North and Troy Baker – titans of video game voice acting – opposite each other, as the former quizzes the latter on what it means to be an adventurer.

Levity ensues, with the Unchartered actor welcoming Baker to the Sony system, with comical nods to Nathan Drake in a way that's self-aware enough to acknowledge the similarities between Naughty Dog's mascot and Indiana Jones. The trailer ends with both actors opening a secret box that bathes them in a bright, PS5-esque blue glow.

We're witness to an interesting shift towards non-exclusivity in gaming, lately. Now, it could be argued that games don't need to be tied to one console in the first place and that developers and publishers that do this are simply trying to get a stranglehold on a particular market. But let's not allow that to spoil the trailer. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PlayStation 5? Yes, please.

InZOI versus The Sims: All major differences - Zoi from the game with cat ears

It has taken years, but finally, Electronic Arts' classic franchise seems to have a serious contender for the throne of the best life sim: InZOI. The South Korean title seemingly aims at a slightly different target audience than Maxis' classic series.

So let's check out all the major differences between the two games.

What are the major differences between InZOI and The Sims?

Better looking and more realistic graphics

Zois talking with each other
Image via Krafton

Perhaps this is a bit of an obvious call out, considering The Sims 4 is ten years old now, but InZOI definitely has the upper hand in terms of graphical fidelity. Your dream of having a character that looks like you, your friends, or your celeb crush is now very much a reality. Your mileage may vary if you vibe with either the cartoonish Sims look or the human and realistic look of the Zois from InZOI.

At times, it does look like InZOI is heading towards that uncanny valley look that might turn some people off and also might have some characters look like something between dolls and zombified AI-generated lucid nightmares. The game seems to head towards a more photo-op vibe, to take some beautiful-looking shots of your Zois doing beautiful things. The overall higher graphical quality also means better-looking objects and environments, so good news for all players. Except for those with a low-spec PC, of course.

Fully functional vehicles

Woman driving a car
Image via Krafton

The original trailer for InZOI did not miss out on the possibility of making The Sims 4 look like an old game, by showing everyone that cars will indeed be a big part of the game. In Maxis' classic simulation, vehicles seemed to disappear completely even after The Sims 3 had them. They were never brought back officially.

In the life sim game by Krafton, cars are a big part of your character's everyday life, so you will be driving around. But what good is a car if you don't have any place to drive them around? That's why one major feature of the game is...

Open-world and customizable cities

Building a house in InZOI
Image via Krafton

One huge limitation in The Sims 4 was always how isolated everything is, a big problem that the series had since the first game (which 3 tried to fix). Interactions with other sims happen only when you force your sim to walk around the neighborhood. That's not the case with InZOI, as the game will feature a big open city for you to explore without loading or separated environments. Cars can be used to explore the city as well.

But there's not just that, cities can be customized to the player's preferences. You can decide which kind of trees to put down, the billboards to appear, the weather and time of day plus many other details that are simply impossible to tweak in Maxis' series. These will be further expanded upon once the game hits early access and Krafton has more time to receive player feedback.

More options and gameplay interactions

Various Traits in Zois
Image via Krafton

The Sims has had some pretty obvious limitations since the beginning of the series because of the way the engine works. InZOI seems like it can and will go beyond, offering the player some realistic interactions between characters, like how the trailer showcases fights between Zois as more realistic and "violent" than the usual cartoon fighting of Maxis' title.

Your Zois can do yoga wherever they want, have more realistic interactions with objects, and find work just by walking around the city. As for looks, you can tweak your Zoi's face and hair however you want, even with multiple colors at once. You can even hook up your phone to InZOI to shoot pictures of your face to get your Zoi to look exactly like you. We would be lying if we didn't say that option scares us a bit, but still, it is an interesting new feature to have.

AI-generated textures to fully customize your house

The creator in InZOI
Image via Krafton

This might be a bit of a controversial topic, for obvious reasons, but InZOI does offer the player the opportunity to use AI-generated textures. Say, you want a sofa with a zebra-like texture. Just ask the AI to make you one and there you go. Keep in mind that the game actively avoids featuring any copyrighted images, so you can't make that nightmare Shrek sofa you had in mind.

But still, this feature allows flexibility in decorating your house that the Maxis title isn't able to offer unless you download specific mods or buy expensive stuff packs. Also, Krafton guarantees their AI model is sourced from the public domain using works that have the artists' consent.

Krafton has mentioned several times how their game is meant to co-exist alongside The Sims, and it will release first in early access so it won't have all the features that Maxis and Electronic Arts have worked on in 25 years of the series. Expecting InZOI to be a The Sims-killer from day one would be definitely too much. But it can be a great way to try out something new and create your new characters with an entirely different vibe and more modern options and graphics.

Image of Ichigo in BLEACH

BLEACH Rebirth of Souls is the latest addition to the world of fighting games, and it features over 30 characters from one of my favorite animes of all time.

While more characters will be added in the future as DLCs, there's already a healthy set of options available. This tier list will help you narrow down your choices for your potential main inside the game. Before getting started, it's always important to remember that your play style also helps to determine which characters feel better to control.

BLEACH Rebirth of Souls S-tier list

BLEACH Rebirth of Souls tier list
Image via Destructoid/Tiermaker

The S-tier characters in BLEACH Rebirth of Souls are the very best characters you can use in the game. These characters have strong move sets that put them ahead of the other fighters available on the roster.

  • Shinju Hirako (Hollowfication): Offers two signature moves, and Shinji's kit is absolutely overpowered.
  • Grimmjow Jaegarjaquez (Resurreccion: Pantera): Once you manage to learn how his gauge works, Grimmjow is an overpowered character.
  • Kisuke Urahara (Shinkai Release: Sode no Shirayuki): Simple gameplay and the moves are easy to master. This is a good choice for a main if you're willing to spend a long time on one character.
  • Yoruichi Shihoin (Shunko): Arguably the fastest character in the game, and she's a perfect choice for a main.
  • Ichigo Kurosaki (Final Getsuga Tensho): A really great character, but mastering him will require a lot of patience. His moves aren't that easy to pull off.
  • Kaname Tosen (Bankai: Suzumushi Tsuishiki, Enma Korogi): Great character for those who prefer reactive gameplay and love to counterattack.
  • Ulquiorra Cifer (Resurreccion: Murcielago) (Resurreccion: Segunda Etapa): Good character that offers Reawakening, but the combos can be hard to learn.
  • Kenpachi Zaraki (Eyepatch Power Seal Release): His melee moves can strike the enemy from a long distance, which makes them pretty unique.

BLEACH Rebirth of Souls A-tier list

The A-tier characters are slightly behind the S-tier names in their in-game abilities. Spending time with them will help your proficiency with their respective kits and can lead to some of them being as good as lower S-tier characters.

  • Coyote Starrk (Colmillo): Good choice for those who prefer characters with range.
  • Shunsui Kyoraku (Fill Power Shikai: Katen Kyokotsu): Decent balance between melee and ranged damage, as he has the ability to hit enemies with wind-based twisters.
  • Genryusai Yamamoto (Full Power Sikai: Ryujin Jakka): Decent character, but mastering Hellfire mode is going to be tricky.
  • Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck (Resurreciion: Gamuza): Good character but her kit doesn't feel special.
  • Ichigo Kurosaki Bankai (Hollowfication) (Full Hollowfication): Not as good as his other form, but give it a shot if you love Ichigo's Bankai form.
  • Gin Ichimaru (Bankai: Kamishini no Yari): Balanced kit, but not much else to talk about.
  • Sui Feng (Incomplete Shunko): Really good if you like using characters with speed and agility.

BLEACH Rebirth of Souls B-tier list

The B-tier characters do alright on their own, but they're weak compared to the names in the S and A tiers.

  • Tier Harribel (Resurreccion: Tiburon)
  • Sosuke Aizen (Hogyoku Third Fusion) (Hogyoku Fourth Fusion)
  • Nnoitra Gilga (Resurreccion: Tiburon)
  • Szayelaporro Granz (Resurreccion: La Lujuriosa)
  • Renji Abarai (Bankai: Hihio Zubimaru)
  • Byakuya Kuchiki (Bnaki: Senbozakura Kageyoshi)
  • Rukia Kuchiki (Shikai Release: Sode no Shirayuki)
  • Toshiro Hitsugaya (Bankai: Daiguren Hyorinmaru)
  • Ichigo Kurosaki

BLEACH Rebirth of Souls C-tier list

The C-tier characters are either too weak in terms of their kits, or I don't like playing with them.

  • Shuhei Hisagi (Shikai Release: Kazeshini)
  • Kaien Shiba (Full Power Sikai: Nejibana)
  • Ikkaku Madarame (Bankai: Ryumon Hozukimaru)
  • Mayuri Kurotsuchi (Bankai: Konjiki Ashizogi Jizo)
  • Sajin Komamura (Bankai: Kokujo Tengen Myo'o)
  • Izuru Kira (Shikai Release: Wabisuke)
  • Rangiku Matsumoto (Shikai Release: Haineko)
  • Yasutora Sado (Brazo Izquierda del Diablo)
  • Uryu Ishida (Ransotengai) (Letzt Stil)

Most characters offer an Awakening option that is listed by their names. A few characters also offer Reawakening, so that's something you should keep in mind. I expect the tier list to vary slightly based on future updates. Additionally, new characters coming as part of future DLCs are expected to be pretty strong and do well on the power curve.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Katano Castle

Katano Castle is one of the first major enemy encampments you'll come across in Feudal Japan in Assassin's Creed Shadows. It's a large fortress that features some pretty sweet rewards, but only if you complete the castle "correctly."

Below, you can see how to complete Katano Castle and the rewards you'll get for it.

How to complete Katano Castle in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Katano Castle is located on the eastern side of Izumi Settsu. You can reach it by heading northeast from your Hideout or by going north from Osaka, Saki, and the Izumi Coast. Katano features a fast travel point on top of the large castle building in the southwestern part of the fortress.

To get into Katano Castle, you need to cross one of a few bridges and defeat some guards or find another way in. One of the best ways to get inside is to travel around the fortress until you see a large tree branch that allows you to climb up and jump down into the area, avoiding the tall fortress walls and any guards.

Katano Castle on the map in Izumi Settsu. Screenshot by Destructoid

Inside Katano Castle, my first recommendation is to make your way up the main castle and unlock the fast travel point. Not only does this allow you to save your game, but it also gives you a good idea of how the fortress is laid out. You'll want to know the ins and outs of the grounds, as you need to locate two specific enemies in order to fully complete Katano Castle.

These enemies are known as "Samurai Daisho" and they have a distinct warrior mask icon above them. At Katano Castle, they are level six and feature a yellow armor health bar along with a two-tiered white health bar, so they're going to take some serious damage to down.

The chest that only opens after all Samurai Daisho are dead. Screenshot by Destructoid

Samurai Daisho kills are required for you to open a chest that contains the Katano Castle rewards. Katano Castle features two Samurai Daisho and they are located at different spots around the fortress.

Unfortunately, they don't stay in one spot, so it can be difficult to pinpoint where they'll be. I was able to find one Samurai Daisho patrolling a courtyard on the northern side of Katano Castle while the other one was located on the southeastern side, to the left of the main castle on your world map.

Samurai Daisho are how you complete a castle in Japan. Screenshot by Destructoid

The best way to locate the Samurai Daisho is by using Eagle Vision or the "Observe" mechanic. Eagle Vision activates an infra-red view that you can use to see enemies highlighted in red on your HUD and mark lootable rewards as white or gold dots. You can only see red-outlined enemies that are somewhat close to you, so head around Katano Castle and use Eagle Vision in different spots until you find both Samurai Daisho.

As for killing them, the best way to go about it is to assassinate them. However, you likely won't be able to kill them completely, just damage their health. From there, it's down to an old-fashioned fight. It's best to attack the Samurai Daisho in areas where there aren't a lot of guards so you don't have to worry about more enemies.

Once both Samurai Daisho are dead at Katano Castle, you can claim your rewards.

All Katano Castle rewards in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Technically, there are only a couple of set rewards you can earn at Katano Castle, which are collected via a chest that can only be opened after all Samurai Daisho are killed.

However, there are plenty of additional rewards located all around the castle grounds. You can loot dozens of chests, collect Hideout materials, and even smuggle resources out from under the enemy's noses. Smuggling resources are required to complete the "Smuggler's Run" side quest in Assassin's Creed Shadows and requires you to have an available Scout. These resources are usually found in locked buildings along the castle grounds, which require a nearby key to open.

Smuggling resources can be a great way to get some Hideout materials. Screenshot by Destructoid

I highly recommend spending some time collecting all of the rare rewards scattered around Katano Castle. They help your progression a ton and allow you to collect Mon (gold), resources, gear, and more.

If we're strictly talking about the big rewards, though, you need to head up to the very top of the main castle. Here, you'll find a board you can climb down into. In this room, you can open a locked chest that only becomes available after the Samurai Daisho are dead.

Inside the chest, you'll loot the level five Tools Master Gear legendary light armor and the Kunai Throw on Assassinate Engraving. Both are legendary rarity items and great starting items for Naoe in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The rewards for completing Katano Castle. Screenshot by Destructoid

Once you have looted this specific chest, you can head down more stairs in the main castle and loot a flurry of additional rewards. However, after the chest is looted, Katano Castle is marked as complete in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

You can now move on to another castle or location or complete some main story missions to put your new gear to good use.

A city in InZOI

InZOI is one of several video games scheduled for a launch in the last week of March, and we have confirmation about the release timings for all available regions.

The upcoming launch will only be available on Steam for the time being. In simpler words, you'll need to be a PC player to play the game. Let's take a look at the release date and time for all regions.

InZOI release date and time across all regions

InZOI is going to be available on March 28, but the release date varies slightly based on which area of the world you're located in. The launch time has been confirmed by developers InZOI Studio and publishers KRAFTON ahead of the launch.

City and Country Timezone Time
Los Angeles, USA PDT 5:00 PM (March 27)
Mexico City, Mexico MT 6:00 PM (March 27)
Chicago, USA CT 7:00 PM (March 27)
New York City, USA EDT 8:00 PM (March 27)
Sao Paulo, Brazil BST 9:00 PM (March 27)
London, UK UTC Midnight (March 28)
Paris, France CET 1:00 AM (March 28)
Istanbul, Turkey TRT 2:00 AM (March 28)
Tokyo, Japan JST 9:00 AM (March 28)
Sydney, Australia AEST 11:00 AM (March 28)

As the game's going to be available only on PC, there's no way to exploit the New Zealand trick to play early. This method usually allows you to change the location of your Xbox console to New Zealand and access a game before it officially releases in your region. This method works if a video game follows a regional launch schedule. InZOI, on the other hand, is going for a simultaneous launch, and it will be released at the same point in time across all regions.

https://twitter.com/PlayinZOI/status/1901982603101831502

If you're looking forward to playing the game, it might be a good idea to understand the basics of the InZOI Creative Studio. If you managed to secure a key for yourself, make sure to check out this guide as you wait for the launch to go live.

An image of main characters in GTA 6.

We know Rockstar is keeping almost everything about GTA 6 a secret, except for the first official trailer. But now, they seem focused on taking down fan speculation as well.

Recently, a creator named Dark Space was creating a GTA 5 map to look like a playable, speculated GTA 6 map using details from the trailer and unconfirmed leaks about the upcoming game. The mod was intended to be completely free and involved collaboration with other modders to have a playable version ready before GTA 6's official release this fall.

However, a video that DarkSpace posted showing the map and interviewing other modders was taken down with a copyright strike by Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company.

In a new video, Dark Space explained that he believed his original video was taken down because his map was becoming too accurate, which made Take-Two feel threatened. However, he mentioned his main issue wasn't just the takedown itself, but the method used.

"I literally went into [the map project] accepting they most likely would not want it up, because the project is too on-the-nose using leak coordinate data," Dark Space said.

"I do, however, have a problem with them using the YouTube strike system against my channel. That's my livelihood. You go after that, you're going after not just after my mod, but you're going after my family. These lawyers couldn't even send a simple email first?"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LmLfJAuR_U

Dark Space says he primarily earns money through YouTube videos, not from mods, and that his plan with the mod was to build something for the GTA community while monetizing his videos about it, not by monetizing the mod.

"I literally have no complaints about them saying they don't want me to make that map, it's how they go about it that's disrespectful," Dark Space added. "While legally fine, how about morally? This kind of reaction kills the creativity and passion that makes GTA's community what it is."

Rockstar has a history of going after GTA modders

Dark Space isn't officially connected to Rockstar, so his work wasn't actually based on real GTA 6 files — it was simply an educated guess from available footage and leaks. He was just skilled enough to create a convincing and playable version using his modding expertise.

Rockstar likely took action because the mod became too realistic and accurate. This isn't the first time Rockstar has aggressively protected the GTA franchise by targeting fan-created mods. The company shut down the massive Liberty City mod, and years ago it already reportedly sent private investigators to a modder's house.

One of the first side tasks you can complete in Assassin's Creed Shadows requires you to find the Lost Pages at Makinoodera Temple. This is where you're brought after the events with Nagato, and the Lost Pages aren't clearly visible around the area.

So, to help you earn some XP, here's the location of every Lost Page at Makinoodera Temple.

All Lost Pages locations at Makinoodera Temple in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Makinoodera Temple houses three Lost Pages for you to find. Most temples across Japan in Assassin's Creed Shadows feature Lost Pages that you can collect in exchange for XP and a Knowledge Point. Knowledge Points are crucial to accumulate, as they help increase your Knowledge Rank which allows you to unlock more skills for Naoe and Yasuke.

Every time you find all the Lost Pages at a location, you earn a Knowledge Point. There are also other ways to earn these points, but finding Lost Pages is one of the simplest ways to do it. You also need Lost Pages if you're going for the Platinum Trophy on PlayStation or all Achievements on PC and Xbox.

Below, you can see where each Lost Page is located at Makinoodera Temple and how to collect it.

Makinoodera Temple Lost Page #1

The first Lost Page is located in the eastern part of the temple. You can ascend a ruined building to find the Lost Page hiding behind some breakable wood. The building the page is located in is the first one to the north of the "Makinoodera Temple" text on your world map, as I have also shown in the map screenshot below.

Makinoodera Temple Lost Page #2

The second Lost Page at Makinoodera Temple is much simpler to find than the first. It's located directly behind a stone statue that lines the walkway south of the temple. The page is sitting on top of a rock behind the statue. You can find it as soon as you're able to explore the area. Just go behind the state that you see in the screenshot below, collect the page, and then you'll be able to head out and find the third one.

Makinoodera Temple Lost Page #3

The third and final Lost Page at Makinoodera Temple is technically not even within the temple grounds. You'll find it sitting on the second floor of a burned-down building on the far western side of the temple. The building is off the main road to the west but not so far west that you pass the large rock formation on your map.

To reach the second floor of this building, head around to the back and climb up the wall to access the roof. Then, hop down onto what is left of the second floor and grab the page that's lying on the planks. There are also other ways to get on the second floor, but going to the roof is the most straightforward.

Once you have collected all three Lost Pages at Makinoodera Temple, you'll get a prompt on your screen that says you've earned a Knowledge Point and some XP in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Not all temples and locations feature Lost Pages to collect, as others have shrines to pray at or other collectibles to find. However, whenever you see a location has Lost Pages, you should try and find them, as earning Knowledge Points is extremely valuable for character progression. We'll have more Lost Page guides for other locations in Assassin's Creed Shadows, so don't worry about having to search for them yourself.

Thrown to the Dogs Assassin's Creed Shadows

Thrown to the Dogs is a bonus quest that all Assassin's Creed Shadows players can go on if they pre-order the game. However, the quest isn't available right from the start of your playthrough.

Below, you can see how to start the Thrown to the Dogs quest and how to complete it.

How to start Thrown to the Dogs in Assassin's Creed Shadows

At the beginning of Assassin's Creed Shadows, you'll receive a message on your screen that confirms your playthrough has unlocked bonus content. In most cases, this means you have access to the Thrown to the Dogs quest. This message also states that you have to progress the game before you're able to complete it, though. Exactly how far you have to progress is not mentioned.

The message explaining that the Thrown to the Dogs quest has been added to the game. Screenshot by Destructoid

Fortunately for you, the Thrown to the Dogs quest doesn't require much playtime to start off. All you have to do is continue with the narrative events that play out and as soon as the world opens up to you, the quest will be marked on your world map. Specifically, you'll have to establish your first Hideout, which opens up the world and allows you to travel wherever you want.

When this happens, you can head to an area of forest between the Osaka Castle and Tennoji Temple locations on the map. Here, you can start the Thrown to the Dogs quest, where your first objective is to locate and pet a dog.

The map location of the start to the Thrown to the Dogs quest. Screenshot by Destructoid

You can begin this quest at any level, but it's recommended to be at least level three so you can easily best any enemy you come across in combat.

How to complete Thrown to the Dog in Assassin's Creed Shadows

As you can see in the map screenshot above, the exact location of the dog is at the end of a winding road that comes out of the northwestern side of Tennoji Temple. You're initially given a quest zone where you need to search for the dog, but it's found at the top of a small cliff where its owner's grave is located.

When you first approach the dog, it will growl but Naoe manages to calm it down and you manage to understand what it's doing at the grave. The dog is bloodied and was apparently in a fight that had something to do with its owner's death, so Naoe can follow the dog until it reaches the destination where the fight occurred. After the cutscene with the dog is over, just hold the "follow" button that appears and Naoe will keep up with the dog automatically.

Following the dog to the site of its attack. Screenshot by Destructoid

Along the way, you'll run into some enemies you have to fight, but nothing major. Eventually, the dog leads you to an estate where a woman named Takako is waiting. She exclaims that Ichiro's dog has returned and this turns into a cutscene with her.

Takako is Ichiro's brother-in-law and seemingly stole the estate she's currently on from him, which Ichiro inherited from his late parents. Of course, the dog didn't take too kindly to this and Takako responded with violence of her own.

At some point during the conversation, you have to make a choice between killing Takako for hurting the dog or warning her against doing it again. If you choose the "kill" option, you make quick work of Takako. However, warning her makes Takako run off, never to be seen again. You can chase her down and kill her, but it doesn't make too much of a difference in the end.

Deciding what to do about Takako hurting the dog. Screenshot by Destructoid

In both cases, you have to look for a key that belonged to Ichiro and open up a box that's located elsewhere. You'll find the key is underneath a house on the eastern side of the estate. Head around to the back of the house, go prone by the opening in the foundation, and crawl through to find the key lying in the dirt.

The location of Ichiro's Key at the estate. Screenshot by Destructoid

The map location of Ichiro's Key. Screenshot by Destructoid

The dog will return to the location of Ichiro's secret box and you can meet it there. When you arrive after following a quest marker, you'll see the dog lying next to the box. You can open the box and a cutscene reveals a letter written by Ichiro inside the box. The letter states that the dog now trusts you and was Ichiro's only friend in the world.

The dog leads you to Ichiro's final request. Screenshot by Destructoid

With that, the Thrown to the Dogs quest ends in Assassin's Creed Shadows and you now have a new canine friend. It won't accompany you on your missions, but you can find it back at your Hideout later in the game.

Atomfall Vicar McHenry in St Katherines Chruch during Maisie's case

After arriving in Atomfall's Wyndham Village, there's a chance to accidentally stumble upon a murder scene within St. Katherine's Church. At this spot, you'll find Vicar McHenry and another character, Pamela Shaw, discussing the death of Maisie Higgins.

This situation is suspicious from the get-go. You can tackle it in multiple ways depending on your beliefs and character's personality. Here's how to solve the murder of Maisie Higgins in Atomfall.

How to solve the St Katherine's Church murder in Atomfall

When you first enter St. Katherine's Church and encounter the murder scene, Vicar McHenry will react defensively and request your silence. The options you choose with him won't drastically change the outcome. Instead, your first step is analyzing Maisie's corpse and speaking with Pamela Shaw.

Atomfall Pamela Shaw NPC
Screenshot by Destructoid

You'll immediately notice a sickle in Maisie's body that you can retrieve and use as a weapon. You'll also find a bloodied note, revealing she was last seen camping out at a cabin near Mereview Hotel. Leaving the church will reveal the hotel's location at coordinates (30.9 E, 83.0 N.)

Talking to Pamela Shaw will narrow down the cabin's location further, depending on your dialogue options. While most options won't lend you new information, choosing to be Righteous and telling her to confess will prompt her to mention an old cellar near the hotel. You'll now have a second marker at coordinates (30.5 E, 80.5 N) to explore.

Atomfall map location for Maisie's cellar
Screenshot by Destructoid

From now on, you can talk to Captain Grant Sims in the Village Hall and tell him about the situation alongside any evidence you find. You don't have to, but it is a viable option if you'd prefer the Protocol handle the case. He'll also reveal information about one of the Protocol's camps that you wouldn't gain otherwise.

Exploring the Brewery Cellar

If you go to the Brewery Cellar, known on your map as "Maisie entered this Cellar," you'll initially spot swarms of rats that'll attack you on sight. You can clear them away by stomping on them using F on your keyboard before breaking their nests with any weapon. The cellar itself also has a group of rats, but you just need to defeat them to move forward.

Atomfall note about Maisie in the Brewery cellar
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Brewery Cellar is full of crates, including a B.A.R.D crate, which you can open for loot. More important for this case is a note you'll find by crawling under a table on the left side of the cellar. The note, written to Morris Wick, reveals that Maisie was the vicar's spy.

You can now return to the vicar to proceed with the case. Since Mereview Hotel was a general clue that'd lead you to this cellar, exploring it is entirely optional. However, you will find some miscellaneous resources and a garden gnome here if you want to progress through some achievements.

Identifying the culprit

Now that you have some notes to work with, you can talk to the vicar about the notes. Regardless of how you respond to his comments, he'll show you the location of the Village Shop, where you can find Morris Wick.

With this evidence on hand, you have another opportunity to go to Captain Grant Sims with this information, allowing Protocol to tackle the situation without getting your hands dirty. If you prefer dealing with this yourself, though, you can head straight to the shop and confront Morris.

Atomfall Morris the shopkeeper

There are multiple ways you can deal with Morris. If you want to settle the situation quickly, you can eliminate him without uttering a single word before returning to the vicar. Alternatively, you can interrogate him and learn more about his motive for committing the crime.

From here, you've multiple options for determining his fate. If you want to benefit from the situation, you can sympathize or bargain with him to receive a Crafting Manual alongside some information about his beliefs. You can also threaten to report him to the Protocol or tell him to leave town.

Regardless of your choice, finishing your conversation with Morris Wick will mark the end of the St. Katherine's Church murder and teach you more about some of the dark sides of Wyndham Village.

Question mark above a book

Fanfiction is a genre of writing that allows fans of a show, book, or otherwise fictional word to weave their own stories inspired by the tales of the original authors. The world of fanfiction is vast, with millions of stories to find and absorb.

If you're new to the world of fanfiction, diving in can feel a bit like walking through a foreign country. There are terms and abbreviations aplenty, and it's easy to get confused if you're trying to find something to suit your personal reading tastes. With that said, becoming familiar with these terms is a little like learning a foreign language; if you expose yourself enough to it, it starts to make sense.

For now, a sentence like "an angsty canon-divergent AU idfic for my crossover OTP to AO3" probably sounds like some kind of bizarre code. But if you break it down, it's really pretty simple.

Common terms in Fanfiction

Samwise in The Lord of the Rings
Image via New Line Cinema

To make things a little easier for any newcomers to fanfiction, let's take a look at a list of common abbreviations and terms that you're likely to come across and might leave you questioning. Alphabetically seems like a safe way to do this.

Term or Abbreviation Meaning
A/N Refers to any fanfiction that is uploaded to more than one location.
Angst Describes a story that features upset, and often heartbreak or mental challenge, for the main characters.
AO3 "Archive of Our Own" - One of the two primary upload sites for Fanfiction.
AU "Alternate Universe" - A Story that takes characters from a canonical story and places them in a different setting. For instance, a Muggle AU for Harry Potter characters where they lack magic.
Bashing Bashing refers to a writer who does not like a character or pairing and chooses to express their feelings within their work.
For instance, "Dumbledore was not a good man, who leaves a baby on a doorstep in October without even ringing the doorbell?"
Canon The source material for fanfiction, for example, Sherlock. Canonical stories follow the source material, rather than split from it.
Canon-divergent Any story that takes the source material and changes what happens to explore an alternate timeline. For example, if Frodo Baggins chose not to make his journey and Samwise took the main role instead.
Character Death Pretty self-explanatory. Used to warn of a canon character dying.
Crack A term used to describe fanfiction that's intentionally written badly, or is based on nonsensical themes or concepts.
Crossover Used to describe fanfiction that combines more than one canon. For example, if Dumbledore and Gandalf were secretly the same person.
Crosspost Refers to a fic that is uploaded in more than one location, likely AO3 and FF.Net.
Darkfic Fanfiction that deals heavily with upsetting themes.
Denialfic Fanfiction that outright ignores or explains away a major plot point in canon, such as the death of a character, to form their own plot without the canon event.
Drabble Originally used to describe any Fanfiction of exactly 100 words. Often used to describe any short Fanfiction.
Enemies to Lovers Fanfiction in which former enemies fall in love with each other, usually in a Slow Burn story. One notable example is the Dramione pairing.
Fandom The term used to describe the people who are fans of something. For example, the Star Trek fandom, or Marvel fandom.
Fanfic Shortened term for "Fanfiction." Can also be further shortened to simply Fic.
Fanon Something that isn't a fact within the original canon but has taken a life of its own within the fanfic community for a canon. For example, the Tempus spell that is commonly used to tell the time in Harry Potter Fanfic was never used in the canonical works of J.K. Rowling but has been accepted by the fandom.
Femslash Fanfiction that focuses on romantic or sexual relationships between female characters. "F/F" can sometimes be used to quickly describe a femslash fic.
FF.Net "FanFiction.Net" - Alongside AO3, another favored site for uploading and reading Fanfiction.
Fluff Cute, often romantic fanfiction and/or moments within a fanfiction.
Headcanon Something a writer or reader chooses to believe is true, even though it's not part of an established canon.
Het Short for "Heterosexual," describes a fanfiction that focuses on romantic or sexual relationships between male and female characters. "M/F" can also be used.
Hurt/Comfort Fanfiction in which a character suffers and then is comforted and helped to heal by other characters. Sometimes shortened to H/C.
Idfic Based on Freud's concept of the id, the part of the mind that focuses on personal desire with a lack of self-control. Idfics are written purely for the enjoyment of the writer, rather than to gain readers.
Oneshot Fanfiction that is written as one solid piece rather than being divided into chapters. Can be of any length, but are usually shorter.
OC "Original Character" - A character created by the author, rather than one originally from canon.
OTP "One True Pairing" - Refers to a romantic couple that's preferred by the writer.
OT3 "One True Threesome" - Similar to OTP, with more characters involved. Also OT4, OT5, etc.
Pairing A pair of characters who have been written into a romantic or sexual relationship.
Podfic Refers to a fanfiction that has been recorded as an audiobook by the writer themselves, or with permission from the writer.
Post-canon Stories are written after canonical events of the timeline.
Schmoop An escalation of fluff. Fanfiction written to include an almost overly sweet romantic relationship between two characters.
Ship Short for "Relationship," refers to a pairing of characters. Many of these ships have dedicated combined names, such as Dramione (Draco/Hermione from Harry Potter), Ereri (Erin Jaeger/Livi Ackerman from Attack on Titan), and so on.
Shipper A fan of a particular ship.
Slash Like Femslash, except used to describe romantic or sexual relationships between male characters. Originally coined from the "/" between character names in a ship. "M/M" can also be used to quickly describe a slash fic.
Slow Burn Fanfiction in which two characters gradually and naturally fall in love with each other over a prolonged period.
Smut Sexually explicit stories or moments within larger stories. "Lemon" can also be used to describe explicit scenes, while "Lime" can be used to describe suggestive scenes.
Songfic Fanfiction that includes multiple mentions of songs, or song lyrics included within the story as part of the plot.
WIP "Work in Progress" - Used to describe any fanfiction that is not yet complete.

Now that we've been through some of the most common terms, let's revisit that bizarrely coded sentence from before: "An angsty canon-divergent AU idfic for my crossover OTP on AO3."

Put simply, this sentence describes a fanfiction on Archive of Our Own that was written for the enjoyment of the writer, featuring a turbulent romantic relationship between two characters from different canons in an alternate universe, breaking away from the timeline of the original story.

The above list is not entirely exhaustive, and there are other less common terms that you may come across while browning AO3 or FF.Net to find something to read. The ones listed here are those you'll face most often and will help you discover stories with the themes you're interested in.

Atomfall Interchange

One of your biggest mysteries in Atomfall is discovering the location of the Interchange and what secrets it holds. The government is hiding something from us, and our character has taken the reins in uncovering this facility and its purpose. Here's exactly where to find the Interchange in Atomfall.

Atomfall Interchange location

The Interchange has multiple entrances you can use to access various locked areas, with the following two locations being the best to start with:

  • The northeast part of Slatten Dale (31.0 E, 77.8 N)
  • The southern part of Wyndham Village (33.8 E, 78.3 N)

Later, you'll also find Interchange entrances in Casterfell Woods at coordinates (27.6, 83.6 N) and Skethermoor at (39.6 E, 73.1 N.) However, these are much trickier to reach if you're early in your playthrough. Nonetheless, the storylines leading up to these two locations are worth exploring, regardless of whether you actively use them.

While you'll gradually gain clues about the Interchange's whereabouts from interactions with Atomfall's NPCs, you can also stumble upon it accidentally as you explore the map. If you like exploring the world before taking on quests, there's a strong possibility you'll find these spots without trying, letting you skip a few steps and move straight into learning more about this facility.

However, the Slatten Dale Interchange has numerous outlaws nearby that'll cause trouble if you get too close, while the Wyndham Village entrance is a private, Protocol-owned property. Sneaking by them is your best bet, but you can also run in with your favorite weapon and clear out any obstacles if that's what you prefer. It's mostly up to personal preference, but sneaking in will make future quests less complicated.

What is the Interchange in Atomfall?

The Interchange is Atomfall's first major mystery once you leave your starting bunker. The tutorial scientist will mention the Interchange to you and recommend you search around the world for it, giving you your first Lead. From here onward, you can find additional clues from NPCs like Molly Jowett in Slatten Dale and Captain Grant Sims in Wyndham Village.

Upon entering either Interchange entrance, you'll spot a large bunker door to open. The door keypads are available on the upper floors in both locations and are accessible using staircases against the walls. Your modified keycard will get you through this barrier, letting you explore the facility freely. What you find from here depends on which entrance you use.

Atomfall Metal Detector

During your Atomfall playthrough, you'll find helpful leads to direct you toward the main quest. Sometimes, though, it's fun to sidetrack and locate underground items like lunchboxes and caches to aid you on your journey. While some are scattered around the map, most are only accessible using a Metal Detector.

The Metal Detector's main purpose is to find underground collectibles you'd never encounter. These items can also hold crafting materials and other valuables, making them worthwhile to locate. Here's how to obtain and use the Metal Detector in Atomfall.

How to find the Metal Detector for the Detectorist achievement in Atomfall

You can obtain a Metal Detector by trading with Molly Jowett, a merchant in Slatten Dale. You'll find her at coordinates (26.4 E, 79.1 N.) Obtaining the Metal Detector from her requires bartering items in your inventory, ranging from bandages to food and weapon ammo.

Once you exchange a few items for the Metal Detector, it'll appear in your inventory, ready to equip. Molly will also share some intel about a nearby wrecked convoy if it's your first time trading with her. The Detectorist achievement will also activate, bringing you one step closer to reaching 100 percent completion in Atomfall if that's something you're working towards.

How to barter for the Metal Detector

When bartering for items, you want to keep the scale as balanced as possible. If it's even slightly heavier in your favor, Molly will reject the trade, forcing you to offer more items. Similarly, having a scale heavily tipped in her favor means you're not getting the best deal.

What you give her will depend on how far you are in Atomfall and your available resources. That said, below are some suggestions you can use:

  • Excess food
  • Old weapons you don't plan on using anymore
  • Ammo for weapons you don't plan on using

Every trader has high-value and low-value items they prefer. Bandages are among Molly's low-value preferences, so avoid using these unless you have several on hand that you don't plan on using. Otherwise, you're better off using extra food that may take up inventory space or ammo if you prefer one or two weapon types and don't plan on using others.

How to use the Metal Detector in Atomfall

After getting your hands on a Metal Detector, you'll find it in your inventory under Tools. You can then select and equip it to activate its item-seeking abilities. Now, as you travel around the map, you'll occasionally find hidden underground caches.

Atomfall Metal Detector lights on top of an item
Screenshot by Destructoid

You'll know you're near an underground cache when the metal detector's tool icon appears in the corner of your screen. You'll also hear a beep, letting you know one of the detector's lights has activated. Using it here will show you the direction of the item and how close you are to it. Your goal is to reach 10 on the detector and have all five lights turned on.

The easiest way to use the detector after detecting your first item is to rotate your camera until the middle light turns on. You can then move straight forward, shifting your view slightly when needed, until all five lights activate. You can then dig into the ground to unearth your cache, giving you a collectible to redeem and valuable items to help you in your Atomfall playthrough.

Clearing Hollow Zero can be a rather difficult challenge if you're not approaching it ideally. The Agents you use matter in this mode, so rather than banging your head against a wall, here's a list of the best Agents for Hollow Zero.

Best Characters for Hollow Zero in Zenless Zone Zero

Hollow Zero in Zenless Zone Zero is an incredibly challenging mode, with Ether 12 being its most difficult, buffed version. This guide focuses on the best Agents for tackling Hollow Zero on the toughest difficulty, ensuring you have the survivability, damage, and utility needed to clear encounters efficiently.

Caeser

Caesar Attacks in Zenless Zone Zero

Caeser is best picked as the ultimate team player. She's a walking fortress with a knack for keeping everyone alive. Her shielding abilities are invaluable in Hollow Zero, where even the smallest mistake can mean instant defeat, especially against Elites. What truly sets her apart from the rest is her on-demand parry: no need to worry about Energy levels for it, though it is easier to land if Energy is used.

The cherry on top of all this versatility is her 1000 ATK buff for the active character. It only requires her shield to be active to earn, meaning it is a very low-maintenance buff you'll have most of the time, assuming you can keep the shield up and going. That extra firepower is exactly what you need to cut through the absurdly tanky enemies lurking in Ether 12.

Astra

Astra Yao.
Image via HoYoverse

Astra is the definition of a high-risk, high-reward powerhouse, except she turns the risk part way down. With insane CRIT DMG and ATK buffs activated through her Quick Assist buff, she transforms your entire team into a wrecking crew. But her value doesn't stop at just offense.

Her Ultimate ability provides healing, the only source of character healing in the game, making her practically integral to facing the hardest content. Combine that with her lightning-fast movement, courtesy of her EX and Dodge abilities, and you have a character who can dance circles around enemies while dishing ridiculous amounts of buffs and healing.

Miyabi

Miyabi is a katana-wielding storm of destruction, and Hollow Zero only amplifies her carnage. With her last two Basic Attacks offering built-in iframes and a parry, she's virtually untouchable when played correctly.

Her insane movement speed makes her one of the safest picks for navigating the chaotic battlefield of Ether 12. Enemies barely have time to react before Miyabi slices through them, making her a perfect blend of speed, safety, and raw unadulterated damage.

Evelyn

If Miyabi is a storm, then Evelyn is an elegant yet deadly executioner. Her damage scales to absurd levels in Hollow Zero, thanks to her high multipliers, but what makes her truly terrifying is her near-infinite dodging ability. By skillfully chaining her EX Dodge and normal Dodge, Evelyn can stay invulnerable while laying down destruction.

She pairs exceptionally well with Astra, as her combat flow naturally triggers Chain Attacks. If you love an agile, relentless playstyle, Evelyn will not disappoint.

Burnice

Burnice Flourish in Zenless Zone Zero

Burnice brings the heat... literally. With some of the most on-demand iframes in the entire game, she's as slippery as she is deadly. Whether you play her as a sustained DPS or a Disorder support DPS, her versatility ensures she never feels out of place.

Her ranged attacks allow her to stay safely away from danger while dishing out her highest-damage abilities, and her flamethrower's Fire DoT (Disorder) turns enemies into walking torches. If you enjoy melting foes from a distance while laughing at their futile attempts to hit you, Burnice is the right choice for you.

Soldier 0 Anby

Fast, furious, and always at 100%, Soldier 0 Anby, also known as Silver Soldier Anby, is a relentless force of nature. Thanks to her Azure Flash and Star Mark mechanics, she has nearly on-demand iframes, allowing her to weave in and out of combat without missing a beat. Unlike other characters who require careful resource management, Anby operates at full power at all times, meaning her damage output is consistently top-tier. Her speed makes her perfect for chasing down elusive enemies in Hollow Zero, ensuring that nothing escapes her onslaught.

Ben

Ben is the underdog turned powerhouse in Hollow Zero, proving that defense can be just as deadly as offense. His parries, when properly built, hit like a truck, and with the Hollow Zero buffs, they become downright ridiculous.

Topping that off, he's one of the only characters who can take full advantage of the many shield buffs in Hollow Zero without relying on an external shielding source. His parries are also forgiving, making him one of the safest characters to play while still delivering devastating counterattacks. If you like tanking hits, laughing, and then hitting back twice as hard, Ben is your bear.

Jane

Jane Doe in Zenless Zone Zero
Image via HoyoVerse

Jane thrives in Hollow Zero thanks to the powerful buffs to Anomaly Proficiency found in this mode. As an Agent, she is the most evasive character in Zenless Zone Zero, boasting three dodges by default and gaining a fourth through a buff in Hollow Zero. Her damage is primarily concentrated in her Assault Disorder, making her an exceptional choice for teams built around maximizing this ability. With the right setup, Jane can exploit Hollow Zero's mechanics to deal devastating damage while remaining nearly untouchable.

By utilizing these Agents, players can maximize their success in Hollow Zero Ether 12, ensuring they have the tools needed to overcome its extreme difficulty and emerge victorious.

Atomfall wounded scientist

When you begin your adventures in Atomfall, you'll find a wounded scientist who explains your current situation and leads you toward your main objective of finding the Interchange. Throughout this conversation, though, his wound becomes increasingly difficult to bear, prompting him to ask you to fetch him some bandages.

How to craft Bandages for the scientist in Atomfall

Crafting bandages in Atomfall requires one bottle of alcohol and four pieces of cloth. You'll find these throughout your starting facility and in the open world. You'll find its crafting recipe by pressing K on your keyboard or opening your map menu and scrolling to Crafting.

Since bandages are helpful beyond this quest, you can make them even after finishing this section of Atomfall's story. For the sake of saving this scientist, though, you'll only need to explore nearby rooms to find everything you need.

Alcohol and cloth locations

You won't find any alcohol or cloth in your starting room. Instead, you'll need to use the room directly across the hall and to your right to find enough resources to craft bandages. Your goal is to search for Old Hound Whisky and torn pieces of cloth.

Atomfall alcohol and cloth for bandage crafting
Screenshot by Destructoid

You'll find your first batches of these materials in the room across the hall from your character's starting point. This room alone has two bottles of whiskey and one piece of cloth for you to grab, knocking out the first half of the recipe. Getting the rest requires turning left down the hall to enter another room. You'll find cloth, a towel, and a crate, all containing enough resources to make one bandage for the scientist.

Shortly after crafting the bandages and giving them to the wounded scientist, you'll be free to continue the main quest and venture into the open world. You can find extra alcohol and cloth around the map, giving you plenty of chances to make more bandages to use after combat or sell to traders.

Entering the Battle Tower in Zenless Zone Zero

The Battle Tower in Zenless Zone Zero demands survivability and high damage to push through its toughest fights. The right Agents can make all the difference, offering shields, healing, evasion, and sheer firepower. Here are the best Agents to dominate the Battle Tower and why they shine.

Best Characters for the Battle Tower in Zenless Zone Zero

The following characters are among your best choices for scaling the Battle Tower in Zenless Zone Zero. For clarity and visibility, this list assumes you're interested in reaching the highest floors of the tower (Floor 100+), so keep that in mind as you go through each character.

Caeser

Caeser in Zenless Zone Zero

Caeser is the epitome of durability and raw power in battle. With her nearly indestructible team shield, she offers the best survivability option in the game, ensuring your team stays strong no matter how tough the odds get. On top of that, her shield grants a hefty damage boost, making her not just a tank but a powerhouse in disguise.

Her on-demand parry is a lifesaver, especially when you're feeling the heat in high-pressure situations. Versatile and reliable, Caesar is perfect for just about any team composition, making her an essential pick for the Battle Tower.

Astra Yao

Astra in Zenless Zone Zero

If there's one thing Astra Yao brings, it's utility in spades. With top-tier damage buffs and the game's only healing ultimate, she's the ultimate team support. Her buffs to Quick Assist reduce the after-swap hurtbox, which means quicker and safer swaps for your team: no more getting caught mid-transition (very annoying). But Astra doesn't just heal; she keeps your team in the fight longer, ensuring you never run out of steam when things get heated.

She's a healer and damage booster all wrapped into one. Perfect for those prolonged, drawn-out battles where staying alive is one half of the fight, and dishing out damage is the other.

Burnice

Burnice in Zenless Zone Zero

Burnice is a damage dealer with a flair for staying alive. She's got some of the best iframes (invulnerability frames) in the game, making her a natural at dodging enemy attacks. Plus, her flamethrower attacks are a mix of destruction and defense, with iframes either at the start or end to keep her safe while she burns through enemies. Being a ranged character also gives her that extra edge.

She can react and strike from a distance without taking too much heat herself. Whether she's in an Anomaly support role or just dealing solid, consistent damage, Burnice keeps things scorching hot, and her ability to survive through it all makes her a tough contender for the Battle Tower.

Miyabi

Miyabi in Zenless Zone Zero

When it comes to raw damage output, Miyabi is currently the best in class, and that's not likely to change anytime soon. She's got an aggressive, in-your-face style with auto-parries and multiple iframes but right into the most basic aspects of her kit, so even when you're under fire, you can keep swinging with confidence.

Her blade mechanic is an offensive juggernaut, delivering significant damage and a high-level interrupt that cancels enemy attacks. Her interrupt even affects bosses which is very strong in the Battle Tower. Her ability to turn the tide of battle with offense is unparalleled, and with a bit of timing, Miyabi becomes an unstoppable force of damage. She is the storm that is approaching.

Yanagi

Yanagi in Zenless Zone Zero

Yanagi is the ultimate counterplay DPS. With her nimble moveset and skill-based parry mechanic tied to her stance swap, she excels in evasion and striking back after the fact. If you're good at landing those parries, Yanagi can keep a constant barrage of pressure on your enemies while keeping herself safe at the same time.

She's got multiple iframes that ensure her survival, but it's her ability to chain those parries and evasions into offense that makes her a real threat. If you're looking for a high-skill, high-reward character who can keep the heat on your enemies, Yanagi is your go-to.

Evelyn

Evelyn in Zenless Zone Zero

When it comes to dodging attacks and dealing out massive burst damage, Evelyn is the undisputed ace. With her infinite dodge mechanic making her one of the most slippery characters in the game, she can evade attack chains that other characters might struggle to do so. By chaining normal dodges and Special dodges together, she can avoid almost anything thrown her way.

She requires a bit of finesse to truly master, but once you get the hang of it, Evelyn becomes an elusive force that's hard to catch. Pair her with Astra Yao, her best teammate, and you've got an almost unkillable duo, provided you've got the mechanical skill to make it so. Between her dodges and high damage, she's perfect for those who like to dance around the battlefield, delivering potent blows in between close calls.

Nicole

Nicole in Zenless Zone Zero

Nicole is all about shredding defense and letting your team go to town. With the strongest defense shred in Zenless Zone Zero, she's invaluable when dealing with Battle Tower's tanky, high-defense enemies.

Sure, keeping up her debuff might take some skill, but when you do, she opens the floodgates for your team to unleash major damage. And just to add some fun to her kit, her suction effect is perfect for crowd control, though it works best against weaker enemies. With Nicole on your team, you can slice through the toughest foes like butter, if you can manage her relatively short debuff durations.

Rina

Rina in Zenless Zone Zero

Rina is the perfect support for PEN-focused teams, adding a much-needed PEN boost to her allies. Her ability to transfer her own PEN stat to her team, allowing them to bypass enemy defenses is vital for bringing down high-defense foes in the Battle Tower. At M1, Rina really shines, especially when paired with Agents like Yanagi, as they become a deadly combo that tears through defenses like a hot knife through butter. If you're all about breaking through defenses, Rina's your secret weapon. Just make sure you have her and her teammates built with the PEN stat in mind.

With these Agents, you're primed to conquer the Battle Tower with everything you need to succeed. Whether you're looking for survivability, damage, or utility, there's an Agent here who's perfect for every situation. The further you climb, the more difficult the Battle Tower gets, so make sure you're prepared before you get climbing.

Hunter and Longsword in Monster Hunter Wilds

Every weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds can help end hunts in a few minutes, but few are as forgiving and comfy as the Longsword. So long as you know the basics and have a general knowledge of a monster's attacks, winning against even the toughest is basically free.

Longsword basics in Monster Hunter Wilds

Slashing a Rathian Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

Longsword has been one of the easiest-to-use yet almost overpowered weapons in the Monster Hunter series, at least since World, and that trend continues in Wilds. Like all the options in Wilds, the weapon's fundamentals are very straightforward.

You have two main attack types: standard attack and thrust. The basic standard attack is two vertical Overhead Slashes, then a horizontal Cresent Slash. Your Thrust two-hit combo starts with a poke and follows up with a vertical cut Rising Slash. Press your Standard Attack and Thrust buttons simultaneously to do a Fade Slash, a sweep that coincides with a short hop backward or to the side if facing a monster and you input a direction.

Beyond these basic attacks, here's the introduction to one of the Longsword's core mechanics: the Spirit Gauge.

  • Every attack builds Spirit Gauge, the sword-shaped bar underneath your Sharpness meter. Spirit Gauge has three levels. Level one is white-bordered, level two is yellow-bordered, and level three turns the whole gauge bright red. The higher your Spirit Gauge, the more damage potential you have.
  • You can transition between Spirit Gauge levels using the Spirit Blade combo, which you can do by using the special action button (the right trigger on the controller, or R on the keyboard by default). Execute four Spirit Slashes and hit with the final one to move the Gauge up one level.
  • While the Spirit Gauge is red, you have access to a simple Crimson Slash combo, which you can loop endlessly unit the gauge decays don't to yellow. The decay takes a little under a minute.
  • Lastly, when the Spirit Gauge is red, you can simultaneously press the special action button and your Standard Attack button to execute a Spirit Thrust. If the longer-ranged poke attack hits, you'll be sent into the air and then slash down in a Spirit Helm Breaker, dealing several instances of heavy damage to whatever part of the monster you strike. When you land, you can press the special action button again to execute additional slashes at the cost of another gauge level.

It's entirely possible to get through the entirety of Monster Hunter Rise and well into High Rank using only the basic techniques described so far. You will, however, be missing out on well more than half of the weapon's potential. That's where the advanced moves come in.

Advanced Longsword moves in Monster Hunter Wilds

Spirit Gauge manipulation is the name of the game with Longsword, as are counterattacks with invincibility frames. The two mechanics are intertwined. There are four attacks you need to understand and master if you want the Longsword to make quicker work of monsters.

  • Foresight Slash. To use this attack, you must first use any other standard move, like a Thrust or Overhead Slash. You can then press the special action and Thrust buttons to slide backward. If executed when a monster's attack is about to hit you, you'll hear a loud dinging sound as your hunter flashes white-blue. Not only will you take no damage from the attack, but you can then press any attack button to use the Foresight Slash. Provided you connect with the Foresight Slash, you will immediately go up one level of Spirit Gauge and maintain whatever charge you'd already built up. Lastly, if your Spirit Gauge is red, you gain the Foresight Whirl Slash, a faster, more acrobatic version.
  • Special Sheathe. By pressing the special action and Standard Attack buttons simultaneously following an attack, you will sheathe the Longsword and enter a five-second-long stance. You can reorient your character when you enter the stance, and while in it, you can use one of two attacks: the Iai Slash or the Iai Spirit Slash.

    • Iai Slash. If this two-hit combo connects with a monster or a monster carcass, your Spirit Gauge will begin to automatically fill, a buff lasting about 20 seconds.
    • Iai Spirit Slash: Much like the Spirit Slash, this attack gives you invincibility frames if you use it just as a monster's attack would hit you and increases your Spirit Gauge by one.

  • Focus Strike: Unbound Thrust. Use Focus Mode to view a monster's wounds and hit it to initiate this attack, destroying the wound and increasing your Spirit Gauge by one level.
  • Spirit Charge. By holding the special action button for three seconds, you can fully charge a Spirit Round Slash, which, if it connects, immediately raises the Spirit Gauge by one level. You have stagger resistance during the slash but can be knocked down using the Spirit Charge.

Spirit Helm Breaker on a Rathian Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

The key to high-level Longsword use is stringing together all these advanced attacks, but a standard combo looks something like this:

  • Spirit Slash Perfect Counter> Spirit Slash Perfect Counter> Spirit Blade I > Crimson Slash I > Repeat > Spirit Thrust when red Gauge almost depleted.

A more realistic combo where you miss one or both of your Spirit Slashes looks something like this:

  • Missed Spirit Slash > Special Sheathe > Iai Slash > Overhead, Thrust, and Fade Slash attacks to build Gauge> Special Sheathe > Iai Spirit Slash to raise Gauge

Special Sheathe is the most versatile move in the Longsword's list, allowing you to reposition or reorient your character if they're facing the wrong way. It provides two ways to build Spirit Gauge, including a counter, and one of its only drawbacks is the long-ish animation for sheathing your weapon.

One final note: you can be knocked out of the air when using Spirit Helm Breaker if the monster has an attack that reaches that high. Also, both Spirit Slash types leave you vulnerable if you don't get the invincibility frames.

Best way to deal damage with the Longsword

Spirit Release Slash on a Rathian Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

Outside of gauge-building combos, optimal Longsword play in Monster Hunter Wilds is about controlling your and the monster's position and always using Spirit Slash and Iai Spirit Slash to avoid big attacks. That's true no matter what your Spirit Gauge level is. For most players, however, their best play is a mix of Spirit Slash and Special Sheathe usage.

Once you have a monster on the ground, however it got there, the best combo string for damage in red Gauge is Spirit Blade I > Crimson Slash I > repeat. You can then either end the combo with a Healm Breaker or reset back to yellow Gauge and build it up again with more spirit slashes.

You'll want to hit a monster's weak spots, especially unbroken Wounds, to prevent sharpness loss and deal as much damage as possible. When the monster eventually gets up, you can return to the Spirit Slash cycling, but use the Spirit Blade/Crimson Slash string as the moment arises.

If you find yourself facing the wrong way or need to reset the fight for any reason, Special Sheathe into an Iai Slash. Even if you don't hit the monster, you'll be able to reangle your attack, get a lot of forward momentum, and won't be automatically kicked out of the stance after a few seconds. The vulnerability period is also much shorter. Plus, you'll have a better chance to reengage how you want to rather than having your movement dictated by the monster.

Like every weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds, knowing how the Longsword works and executing on that knowledge are two entirely different things. I always recommend starting a very low-difficulty hunt when you want to learn a new weapon. That way, you get real-world experience the training dummy simply can't give you without the threat of instantly carting after a few mistakes.

Now go, hunter, and master the blade.

Wudwuds and a Seikret in Monster Hunter Wilds

It's easy to get on the good side of your hunting party when you spring Demon Powder and Hardshell Powder to a challenging hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds. These party-wide buffs are easy to make and add value no matter what monster is on today's menu.

How to make Demon and Hardshell Powder in Monster Hunter Wilds

Crafting a Demon Powder in Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

Demon Powder and Hardshell Powder are, essentially, an AoE usage of Might and Adamant Seeds. So long as you and the rest of your hunting party are in the same general area, using these powders will immediately increase their damage output (Demon Powder) or raise their defense (Hardshell Powder). The effect lasts three minutes, making their duration significantly shorter than Demondrug and Armorskin, but they're faster to use and affect everyone nearby.

You can craft Demon and Hardshell Powder in your tent or on foot. The ingredients are a Might Seed for Demon Powder or an Adamant Seed for Hardshell Powder combined with Godbug Essence. Of the three ingredients, Godbug ESsence is the easiest to find. Godbugs, little white beetles you can collect during a hunt, can be found as early as the Scarlet Forest.

How to find Godbugs in Monster Hunter Wilds

A Godbug in Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

Scan for Godbugs using the Filter Icons feature at the bottom left of your map. Open the map, then use the corresponding button to open the submenu with a little house symbol next to it. This is your Fast Travel List, used to quickly select a fast travel location. Navigate one icon to the right to select the Filter Icons tab, and then use your interact button to open a selection of collectibles in your current region. Godbugs will be about halfway down that list.

Godbugs are usually found on the trunks of trees, either standing or fallen, or on the sides of small rocky outcroppings. You can collect their Essence either at a distance with your claw or by interacting when with them while standing nearby.

You can also get Godbug Essence by farming it with Apar in the village of Suja or with Rysher in Sild village in the Ruins of Wyveria. As a rare commodity (by farming standards), you'll need to wait a long time between check-ins to get anything close to a respectable amount of Godbug Essence. Still, it beats doing the extra work yourself.

How to find Might Seeds and Adamant Seeds in Monster Hunter Wilds

A Might Seed in Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

Adamant Seeds are easy. They're available in every region except the Oilwell Basin. Might Seeds are a bit harder to come by, available only in the Oilwell Basin and the Ruins of Wyveria. Here's the rundown of how many of each seed you can find per region:

Might Seeds

  • Oilwell Basin: Five collection sites for 10 Seeds total
  • Ruins of Wyveria: Five collection sites for 10 Seeds total

Adamant Seeds

  • Windward Plains: Six collection sites for 12 Seeds total
  • Scarlet Forest: Five collection sites for 10 Seeds total
  • Iceshard Cliffs: Four collection sites for 8 Seeds total
  • Ruins of Wyveria: Two collection sites for 4 Seeds total

Like Godbug Essence, you can farm both Adamant Seeds and Might Seeds, with their availability depending on the season. Head to Murtabak at Kunafa Village in the Windward Plains or Plumpeach the Wudwud in the Scarlet Forest. Farm Might Seeds with Sabar in the Oilwell Basin city of Azuz and with Rysher in Sild.

I'd highly recommend farming as many of these ingredients as you can as soon as you can. If you intend to delve into High Rank and the endgame of Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll be making tons of Demon and Hardshell Powder, among other buffs. That's especially true of any hunts where you cart, as being knocked out and sent back to camp resets almost all your buffs.

Now that you know how to make Demon and Hardshell Powder, you'll have an easier time restocking whenever you run low.

Monster Hunter Wilds Seikret

One of the more frustrating aspects in all of Monster Hunter Wilds is trying to control the useful but annoying Seikret. The bird will just take off running in a random direction whenever you hop on its back, which leads to confusion and a desire to manually take over.

To see how to fix your Seikret controls and the best settings to use in Monster Hunter Wilds, keep reading.

What's wrong with the Seikret's controls in Monster Hunter Wilds?

The main issue that players have with the Seikrets in Monster Hunter Wilds is that they seem to start sprinting in whatever direction they please. This is in spite of whatever waypoint you have set or even if you try to take the reins and control the mount yourself. It often feels like the Seikret has a mind of its own and is leading you to where it feels is the best place to go, regardless of what's going on in the game.

Seikrets make exploration easier in Monster Hunter Wilds, but only if you use them properly. Screenshot by Destructoid

I've been on numerous hunts and main story quests where I need my Seikret to go in a specific direction and when I call it, the bird takes off in the opposite direction. Then, after some wrangling with the controls, I eventually get the Seikret to go in the direction I want. This process takes far too long and is quite the headache, though, so how do you fix the Seikret's settings?

Best Seikret control settings in Monster Hunter Wilds

Well, by default, the Seikret is set to fully take over automatic control whenever you hop on its back. Fortunately, you can change this setting by going to the main menu in Monster Hunter Wilds, going to the Options menu, tabbing over to the "Controls" section, and then scrolling down until you reach the Seikret settings on page two.

Here, you can change the "Seikret Manual Controls" from Type 1 to Type 2. Type 1 is enabled by default and it makes the Seikret go in a specific direction even when you don't press a single movement command. This setting also makes it more difficult to control the Seikret even when you do press movement commands.

The Seikret Manual Controls option can be changed in the Controls settings. Screenshot by Destructoid

Alternatively, Type 2 allows you to change the Seikret's movement every time you press a movement command. This makes it feel like you're controlling a traditional mount, or even yourself on foot, rather than following a clueless bird who doesn't know which way it's going.

The Type 2 setting also makes the Seikret stop running as soon as you hop on its back. Instead, you're given a brief second to press a movement command, which makes the Seikret run in that direction. However, if you truly want the Seikret to stop trying to explore the map as soon as you stop pressing movement commands, there's another setting you want to change in Monster Hunter Wilds.

If you go to page three of the Game Settings section in the Options menu, you'll find another Seikret setting called "Seikret Auto-Explore." By default, this setting is enabled, because of course it is. You can turn the setting off, though, and this makes the Seikret stop automatically moving when you haven't pressed a movement command.

Changing the Seikret Auto-Explore option to off in the Game Settings menu. Screenshot by Destructoid

This works when you don't have a waypoint set on the map. If you have a waypoint set, it's often better to let the Seikret take control so you can sit back and wait until you've arrived at your destination. Just roaming around the map doesn't need the Seikret to take full control, though, so turning this setting off allows you to have control during free exploration times in Monster Hunter Wilds.

There are other Seikret settings you can change in the Options menu, such as the way your Seikret is called or how it's presented in the Radial Menu, but the two settings I've mentioned are the ones you really want to hone in on. Those will make your Seikret feel much more intuitive and responsive in Monster Hunter Wilds and not so much like you're riding an automatic car that doesn't take commands.

That's all we have on the best Seikret settings in Monster Hunter Wilds. Hopefully, your experience exploring the Forbidden Lands is a much more pleasant and less frustrating one.
