Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, February 9, 2026 11:48 AM Aethus is a crafty new sci-fi survival game in which one woman and her flying drone pal excavate a layered underground world on behalf of a galactic megacorp. You'll create a surface base from holographic modules, gather evidence about a doomed science expedition, research a wacky new element, and unearth the dirty secrets of your employer. It sounds a lot like Coffee Stain's Satisfactory, with opportunities for automation later on, but it's viewed from an elevated third-person perspective, and appears more narrative-driven. Satisfactory through the eyes of Diablo? I can - as we space miners like to say – 'dig it', though I'm quite weary of games about being the lonely stooge of some breezily villainous extraction racket. This particular seam of satire has long since been gutted. I am ready for games in which we go to other planets for Nice reasons. I feel like that ought to be possible. Anyway, here's a trailer. |

I can only imagine the destruction if he'd run into one particular "very rare" Nioh 3 bug, recently patched out, which causes the game to corrupt your save data if you end the game while praying at shrines. |

Now move, I've goons to beat up at two, photos to take at three, a biker gang war to resolve at four, and I also need to somehow fit in time to run around town waving my flip phone at strangers. We'll learn about a new CyberConnect2 game project on February 16, 2026, as the company will share its 30th anniversary project on its official website and YouTube channel that day. The placeholder will go live on February 13, 2026, ahead of the reveal. The announcement will appear at 3:09am PT/6:09am ET/12pm CET/8:09pm JST.
There are no hints as to what the game could be about or the genre. The fact that it starts at 9 minutes after the hour seems like it could be a clue. CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama also shared a message that noted the developer will use all it learned over the years on this new CyberConnect2 game.
CyberConnect2 is perhaps best known for its projects based on anime series. For example, it was behind the JRPGs based on the .hack// series. Arena fighters like entries in the The Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles and Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series mark examples of its projects. Bandai Namco also tapped the team for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. In terms of its original titles, it worked on Tail Concerto for the PS1, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter for the DS, and most recently Fuga: Melodies of Steel. All of those original titles featured anthropomorphic furry style characters as their leads.
The CyberConnect2 new game project reveal will happen at 3:09am PT/6:09am ET/12pm CET/8:09pm JST on February 16, 2026.

At Wonder Fest 2026 Winter, Aniplex teased new figures of Hololive member Houshou Marine dressed up as the My Dress-Up Darling heroine Marin Kitagawa in her anime uniform and of Marin wearing the pirate costume belonging to the Vtuber. Official concept art appeared alongside unpainted prototypes. There are no official release dates for either one yet, however.
Both of these figures are listed as Cosplay Ver takes of the characters when Aniplex shared unpainted prototypes on social media. In this situation, the characters seem designed to match the energy of the people they're portraying. So Marine is a bit more subdued in the Marin costume. She's holding one side of her skirt up, but she's otherwise in a more demure pose. Meanwhile, Marine is much more energetic and over-the-top, with extravagant posing, the coat being held like a backdrop or cape, and her right hand making a peace sign.
Here are the two prototype photos, as well as the official art showing both of the designs together. These will be static scale figures when released. As such, don't expect additional face plates or arm parts for either Marine or Marine.
Square Enix handles the My Dress-Up Darling manga, while the anime is streaming on Crunchyroll, and Hololive Vtuber Houshou Marine streams on YouTube. The My Dress-Up Darling Marin and Hololive Vtuber Houshou Marine cosplay crossover figures are in development, and there's no release date for either one yet.

I got so excited about Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2. As former PS2 titles, the remakes really felt like merited. They ended up getting extra story beats, quality of life changes, improved battle systems, and both the Majima Everywhere system and Majima Saga additional storyline. The new additions felt compelling, as though they enhanced two already amazing games. The PS3's Yakuza 3 is one of the entries I found weakest. While the more widespread release and extra content in Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties is a plus, it doesn't feel like the remake makes the remaster obsolete.
The Kazuma Kiryu storyline in Yakuza Kiwami 3 is the epitome of The Godfather 3's "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" He finally seems to be living a peaceful life as head of Morning Glory orphanage in Ryukyu, Okinawa, far from Kamurocho and Tokyo's corruption. It doesn't last! A dispute about what will happen to the waterfront land and desire by yakuza families and other officials to do things like build a resort or work on a military base expansion. While Tojo Family Patriarch Daigo Dojima isn't cooperating and Kiryu is pushing back, assassination attempts on Ryudo Family Patriarch Shigeru Nakahara and Dojima lead to him heading back to Kamurocho to investigate the incident, look into Goh Hamazaki, Tsuyoshi Kanda, and Yoshitaka Mine, and save the orphanage.
Meanwhile, the new Dark Ties storyline is a shorter experience that acts as a prequel to explain how Yoshitaka Mine went from a head of a company to part of both the Nishikiyama and Tojo. After his betrayal at the business he started, an encounter with Daigo Dojima influenced what he decided he wanted for himself next. And if that meant spending money he'd earned from his start-up to get Kanda to give him an "in" into the underworld, he'd do it. Once he's in, it's about making a name for himself and rising to the role we know he holds in the main campaign.
While the Yakuza 3 narrative is generally fine, it's not one of my favorites in the series and the take on Kiryu's story in this Kiwami remake doesn't change that. When it comes to this arc, I'm of the opinion that Yakuza 0 is best, followed by 4, 6, 5, and the original Kiwami. I do appreciate moments when Kiryu gets to interact with the kids a lot, but I also feel like the storyline and direction don't feel as strong compared to other installments. Spoilers aside, the narrative adjustments and additions that did come up didn't always help what was already present. Not to mention tabbing over to the Substories section of the Task list once I got into Kiryu's second chapter and only seeing 31 listed ended up giving me quite a shock. (The ones there do feel handled pretty well, but I do miss the wider variety the original offered sometimes since it made areas feel more alive.) Likewise, I don't particularly find Mine is as charismatic or compelling as other villains like Sohei Dojima, Daisaku Kuze, Tsukasa Sagawa, Ryuji Goda, and of course Akira Nishikiyama.
As a result, the Dark Ties storyline in Yakuza Kiwami 3 also didn't grab me in the same way other Kiwami remake additions did. While it is more robust than The Majima Saga and there are times when Mine's machinations are fascinating to watch, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much. Seeing him become Tsuyoshi Kanda's sworn brother, seeing the Nishikiyama Family again, and watching the influence Daigo Dojima had on his new life has its moments, especially since the Kanda Damage Control elements can be fun as we see him get "rehabilitated," but I didn't find the character and his story as charismatic in this prequel. Of course, this is because I'm coming in not being the biggest fan of that particular character, and people with more affinity for him might enjoy Dark Ties more.
In terms of gameplay, the Kiryu storyline is traditional Yakuza experience. He'll be going through both Ryukyu and Kamurocho, with the former offering activities at Morning Glory orphanage and Haisai Girls Bad Boy Dragon elements and the latter being the city we know and love from past entries. The former is more about minigames and building up Daddy Rank by connecting with the kids, while the latter is a a Clan Creator-like experience that involves recruiting, managing the delinquents, and fighting foes. The battle system borrows from more modern Kiwami remakes and releases with skill trees to adjust abilities and strengths, his traditional Dragon of Dojima fighting style, and the Ryukyu fighting style. Essentially, RGG went with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach. In a nod to other entries, it is possible to go with a lesser difficulty or turn on an assist mode for some special attacks. The Game Gear is present as the retro system highlighted, and there's a cell phone decoration system that allows us to give some buffs by adjusting Kiryu's cell phone charms and accessories.
With Dark Ties, I sort of feel like the focus is more on fighting for a number of reasons. The Kanda Damage Control sidequests can feel like quick missions that can involve delivering items or certain attacks. But a big part of his storyline also involves Hell's Arena. Mine's combat system differs from Kiryu's in that he's basically a boxer and will be able to use temporary Dark Awakenings for stronger attacks. The typical roaming thugs and Helping the Little People fights can be more traditional encounters. The Hellish Brawls can feel more like 1v1 boss fights, especially since these are timed. The Survival Hell mode ended up being my favorite part, as its roguelike elements meant collecting different weapons and gospels could give Mine boosts to do better and survive the enemies chasing him down.
Now, I did play Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties with the day one graphics patch applied. This also included some localization updates. The biggest changes here seem to be in Ryukyu, as we've already seen past Yakuza Kiwami remakes tackle Kamurocho admirably. I will say there is a marked difference and it does look better than it did before the patch and in the demo. However, and this might sound silly, but I still am quite fond of the way everything looks in the remaster. The character models are better and more details, but this is perhaps one of those situations where I feel like Yakuza 3 Remastered, which will be delisted following this release, has its own merits. I'm sure after this releases, there will be people on both sides who appreciate different versions, but I think I liked the appearance of the more classic more.
Another knock against Yakuza 3 Kiwami & Dark Ties is the inclusion of Teruyuki Kagawa and use of his likeness for Goh Hamazaki. He repeatedly sexually harassed and assaulted women in Japan, even admitting his actions toward a hostess in one instance. Director Ryosuke Horii then explained in a Game Watch interview that the casting was purposeful and used because of the element of being a "creep." It's disappointing. Especially since I enjoyed George Takahashi's portrayal of the character more.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties is generally fine, but I found it a less exciting remake than the ones for Yakuza 1 and 2. There are certain narrative and design decision elements that left me feeling the remaster of this could be more enjoyable sometimes. And while the Yoshitaka Mine storyline does offer some insights, the enjoyment someone would get out of it is really dependent on how much the player likes that particular character. In short, it's a situation in which the remake does offer some benefits like quality of life combat adjustments and greater reach, but doesn't totally replace the original game or remaster.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties will be available on the Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on February 12, 2026, and a demo is available.

A week after the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Sony announced the first State of Play of 2026 that will reveal upcoming PS5 games. That will be held at 2pm PT/5pm ET/11pm CET on February 12, 2026, which will be 7am JST on February 13, 2026. The PlayStation Blog reveal confirmed it will appear on Twitch and YouTube again. While the PS5 was mentioned, the PSVR2 headset was not.
This first State of Play of 2026 will be an extended one that will prioritize PS5 games. It will last for over an hour. Sony did note that PlayStation Studios updates will appear, which could mean first-party console and PC games. However, it also mentioned third-party titles and indie ones will show up.
Placeholders are already live on YouTube for a number of the showcases. In addition to the English one, which you can see below, there will be a Japanese presentation and a simulcast one with English subtitles.
Sony also noted that co-streaming and video-on-demand backups are fine. However, the company warned that copyrighted materials like music could lead to strikes that might take it down.
As for what we might see, it could be an opportunity to learn more about established series and entirely new reveals. For example, we know that there's the third Final Fantasy VII Remake entry eventually on the way. Ghost of Yotei: Legends could show up again too.
The 2026 Sony State of Play showcase will appear at 2pm PT/5pm ET/11pm CET on February 12, 2026, and that will last at least an hour.

Sega has revealed that it is working with Seiko to produce and release new watches in a collaboration to celebrate Sega's 65th anniversary, which fell in June 2025. The new watches will appear in October 2026.
The watches will be available in two color models: Black and Silver. Both models will have the same tax-inclusive price tag of ¥71,500 (~$457).
Each watch will come with a battery that is expected to last for around three years. The watches will also have up to 10 bar of water resistance, enhanced for daily use.
Here are the sample images showing the new watches, along with their boxes:
Pre-orders for both watches are immediately available via Sega Store Online on Kadokawa Store. But even though the site has a WorldShopping widget, both watches are still made unavailable to order legally from outside Japan.
Sega and Seiko had also previously collaborated for the former's 60th anniversary in 2020. The newer 65th anniversary watches will have different designs from the previous ones. Even though Sega revealed the new watches later in February 2026, it technically still falls in the 65th anniversary year until Sega formally reaches its 66th year in June 2026.
The Sega 65th Anniversary Seiko collaboration watches will be available in Japan in early October 2026.

Sony has announced that a State of Play will be happening on Feb. 12, or in just three days as of this article. It's going to be over 60 minutes long, potentially containing major new announcements, DLCs, or revealing to us new information about other in-development titles.
While we don't know exactly what will be featured in this new State of Play, a lot of speculation is already being whispered around every corner of the internet. Since it's Sony, we're probably going to see some new first-party titles or games developed in partnership with the company (wink, Kojima, wink).
That could include something new and exciting out of Sony's Santa Monica or other studios, but also extra information on games like OD that we only caught a glimpse of last year.
Naturally, Wolverine stands to be showcased as well, as does the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. We've recently discussed Starfield's PlayStation 5 release (supposedly leaked and set for April 7) that could be confirmed on Feb. 12 via a brief teaser of both the port and its rumored 2.0 overhaul.
Monster Hunter Wilds DLC is another potential, smaller-scale candidate, as is yet another trailer for Resident Evil Requiem (the final one ahead of its Feb. 27 launch). Naughty Dog could also give us more information about Intergalactic, but from what I last heard, that game is still a ways off (though that doesn't mean a trailer couldn't drop).
All in all, we could see a lot of good, exciting games and even some big, heavy hitters from Sony itself as well as partnered studios. An hour is a long time for a trailer- and announcement-oriented showcase, so we're definitely in for a treat no matter what ends up being on display.
What do you think we might see, Destructoid?

All Discord users will need to verify their age via facial scan or another form of identification to bypass new safety settings starting next month, the company said.
After it "successfully launched a teen-by-default experience in the UK and Australia" last year, Discord said this setting will be enabled for all new and existing users next month. The company calls it a rollout of "enhanced teen safety features...that reinforce its long-standing commitment to creating a safer and more inclusive experience for users over the age of 13."
"Nowhere is our safety work more important than when it comes to teen users, which is why we are announcing these updates in time for Safer Internet Day," said Savannah Badalich, Head of Product Policy at Discord. "Rolling out teen-by-default settings globally builds on Discord's existing safety architecture, giving teens strong protections while allowing verified adults flexibility. We design our products with teen safety principles at the core and will continue working with safety experts, policymakers, and Discord users to support meaningful, long-term wellbeing for teens on the platform."
In March, everyone will have their accounts set to "teen-by-default," meaning that if users want to bypass content filters such as age-restricted channels, servers, or commands and select message requests, then a new layer of verification will be needed.
These methods include "video selfies for facial age estimation," similar to what Roblox recently employed across the world in its game, and results have been spotty, with the feature incorrectly identifying age brackets for some. Discord says, "in most cases, users complete the process once, and their Discord experience adapts to their verified age group." But if not, then more information may be needed, including scanning a form of identification like a driver's license.
You can read all about Discord's new safety settings on the app's website, but if you're 18 or older and looking to use the app as you have been, be prepared to give up some more of your information than you may be willing to in a few weeks.

Below I'll list where you can find all Geodes in Abyss and all their Artifact stats but here's some general info first. Geodes can randomly appear as chests when you're catching fish and trigger the fishing minigame (See picture above). To claim a Geode you'll have to hover over the chest as it charges up the same way you hover over the fish icon. Once you get any Geode, you can open it at the Virelia NPC in the dome to get Artifacts from it. Each Artifact provides unique stat boosts that can be positive or negative and range from low-tier values to high-tier values which are rolled for each Artifact you get (I'll list them as X/Lowest up to Y/Highest below).

Boats are one of the most important additions in the Rust Naval update, and you can edit them just the way you want, thanks to their modularity.
Boats are necessary if you want to explore the newly released Deep Sea location. If you're unsatisfied with your existing boat or want to add upgrades, you can do so quite easily. This guide will quickly explain how you can edit your existing boat in Rust.
Table of contents
How to modify your boat in Rust
The first step is to build your own boat. This process is relatively easy, and you'll need a Boat Building Station. Once you complete the process at the Helm, your boat is ready.
To edit the boat's design, return to the Helm/Steering Wheel. Hold the Interaction button and choose Deploy and Edit. This will change your boat to the building mode, and you're free to make modifications.
While you can modify your boat freely, there are certain restrictions (more on that later) that you'll have to follow. Once you're done, use the Helm to complete the process. Repeat the steps mentioned above if you want to re-edit your boat.
Best tips and tricks for editing your boat in Rust
There are different types of upgrades you can attach to your boat. The exact upgrades will largely depend on your workbench tier and the resources that you have at your disposal.
Here's the list of resources you'll need to make a cannon.
Here's the list of resources you'll need to make a cannonball.
Finally, you can also add various planks and ramps to your boat. These aren't necessary, but they allow you to access different parts of the boat with greater ease.

Table of contents
When does Starsand Island release?
Starsand Island launches at 11am CT on Feb. 11 into early access. The full game won't go live until later this year and is currently slated to release in summer 2026. If you want to jump in and start playing sooner, though, you can enjoy everything the early access period has to offer by starting to play on Feb. 11.
We've set our countdown to the announced launch time so you can check when your cozy new adventure begins. You can also check back here leading up to the release to learn how much longer is left before Starsand Island arrives.
We've also included a global launch time breakdown below if your timezone isn't listed above and you want to check what time it'll go live in your area. It's releasing at the same time everywhere, though, so our general countdown applies regardless of where you are.
What platforms is Starsand Island on?
For the Feb. 11 launch, Starsand Island will be available for PC through Steam in an early access state and on Xbox as a preview. These are the only platforms available right away, but when the early access period eventually ends, it will launch across a much wider variety of platforms, including PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2. It is slated to leave early access and debut on other platforms in summer 2026.
Starsand Island features
In Starsand Island, your character flees from the hustle and bustle of city life to return to a small village they used to frequent as a child. Once there, you get to work on and hone key skills, like farming and fishing, to build your new island life.
The island is home to many characters you can get to know, including villagers you can befriend and build relationships with, and animals you can take care of. NPCs have daily interactions and bonds that build over time, and if a connection grows strong enough, you can even find someone to share the cozy island life with.
There are many different methods of transportation you can unlock and use to get around the island, including roller blades, hoverboards, cars, motorbikes with sidecars, and more. The island also hides many mysteries and secrets, with ancient ruins you can explore to uncover them. Inside, you'll also be able to build combat skills to take on formidable foes.
When you need to take a break, you can work on your island home, which can be deeply customized thanks to a robust DIY and construction system. You can fully decorate both the interior and exterior of your very own dream home.
There's sure to be much more to uncover once Starsand Island has been released, but overall, it features lots of expected cozy game mechanics, so if you're interested in this genre, you'll certainly find lots to enjoy in this one.
