Kotaku Tuesday, October 25, 2022 3:30 PM Diablo 3's 2012 launch was a disaster thanks to its always-online requirements, broken servers, and a real-money auction house that nobody liked or wanted. Today, a decade later, we know that eventually Blizzard got things back on track with Diablo 3 and ended up creating a damn fine ARPG. But why did it take nearly… |
Kotaku Tuesday, October 25, 2022 3:00 PM Bayonetta 3 reviews are in, and we finally get to find out if Platinum Games has done its titular protagonist any justice. At the beginning of the game, you'll get the choice to take on the role of one of four Gotham Knights characters: Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood. Each of them has their own strengths and abilities, which they'll need if they're to inherit Batman's duty to save Gotham in this superhero game. To change characters in Gotham Knights, you must return to the Belfry and interact with one of the four costumes in the corner of the room, just behind the evidence board. Note that you will need to make weapons and armour for each character individually, but crafting resources are shared between characters, and all of their levels will scale with your currently active fighter. You will also need to spend AP on each character's best abilities. RELATED LINKS: Best Gotham Knights abilities, How long is Gotham Knights?, Gotham Knights mods |

About halfway through the Modern Warfare 2 campaign, you find yourself chasing a terrorist through backyards and houses in a US border town. Every now and then a spooked resident will spring out from behind a door and demand you leave immediately, and when this happens a prompt appears at the top of your screen: 'Hold right-click to de-escalate'. PCGamesN Tuesday, October 25, 2022 12:23 PM Buying the best Bannerlord workshops could be your best bet if you want to turn your hand to making money in Bannerlord through trading. There are different types of workshops you can purchase in cities, and they tend not to be as risky as Bannerlord caravans, and they are a steady form of income. They are, however, quite pricey to purchase. A workshop will cost you 15,000 denar but are worth it for long-term income. As your clan levels up, you can make more money from workshops and increase the number you have at any one time. There are a total of 11 different Bannerlord workshops you can put to processing resources for your kingdom, including the Wood Workshop, Smithy, Silversmith, Brewery, Wine Press, Olive Press, Linen Weavery, Velvet Weavery, Wool Weavery, Pottery Shop, and Tannery. PCGamesN Tuesday, October 25, 2022 12:12 PM Garry's Mod rival, Half-Life 2 mod, and building tool JBMod might not be familiar to a lot of people, but at one time, around about 2004, it was slated to become the definitive indie game for tinkering with Valve's Source Engine. In an alternate timeline, where reality split in a different direction, all those G-Man memes and Black Mesa Machinimas we've enjoyed in the past two decades were built using JBMod. In our world, though, Garry's Mod won out, and JBMod is only just making its way to Steam now, 18 years later. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, October 25, 2022 2:00 PM Today marks the 25th anniversary of strategy classic Age Of Empires, and to celebrate Xbox Game Studios have announced a ream of updates coming to Age Of Empires II: Definitive Edition next year. Technically, the main bit of news from tonight's anniversary stream is that both Age Of Empires II: DE and Age Of Empires IV will be arriving on Xbox consoles in 2023 (that, and Age Of Mythology is coming back), but the upshot of all that is that the PC versions will be getting the very same benefits, including controller support, crossplay with consoles and cloud gaming support. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, October 25, 2022 12:00 PM Horror games are usually a bit too scary for me to play alone. I actually barely manage to play them at all, though not for lack of trying. Whenever I load them up, I just can't help but pause every five seconds for a breather. Multiplayer games are far more manageable, though, and often also turn stifled screams into contagious laughter as your friends terrorise each other. If you're a scaredy cat like me and would rather scream at the horrors of your unhinged mates than at unpredictable AIs and scripted jump scares, then you're in the right spot. Here are five games in which your mates can play as the monster. Some are creepy, some are cute, and none of them will force you to run around alone. If you're looking to get monstrous yourself this Halloween, Liam's done a list all about games that make you the monster. No overlap, promise. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, October 25, 2022 12:00 PM Shareware platformers defined my PC gaming as a kid. Yeah, a cheeky blast on Wolfenstein 3D was okay, but Commander Keen and Duke Nukem were an amazing discovery for a small person who'd been introduced to games through the NES. One of my all-time favourites is Apogee's Crystal Caves, a gem of a platformer about an interstellar miner who goes space spelunking in search of alien crystals. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, October 25, 2022 11:27 AM It's been two years since developer Origame Digital released the beloved photography game Umurangi Generation and since then, the team have been relatively quiet. A short teaser for Origame's FiveSeven was mysteriously tucked in the middle of it. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, October 25, 2022 10:30 AM Last week I reviewed New Tales From The Borderlands and I really didn't like it. This was upsetting to me; this may come as a surprise, but I try to avoid playing and reviewing games I think I won't like. I don't want to go out of my way to be mean, and I also don't want to spend hours not enjoying myself. I go into almost every game I play actively wanting to enjoy it (the exception being things like Succubus, which I can only assume are trying an avant garde technique to plumb new, unexplored depths of badness on purpose). As it turned out, a lot of other reviewers did like it. I'm not going to object to that, because it takes all sorts to make a world, and so on. Rather, it made me wonder if I'd sort of hallucinated how much I liked the first Tales From The Borderlands. How fantastic it was, managing to be both the best Telltale game and the best Borderlands game in one, was a big part of why I was so excited for New Tales. It came out a long time ago, and I hadn't played it for a while. Maybe it wasn't how I remembered. Maybe I'd changed, you know? |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, October 25, 2022 10:00 AM When Adam Isgreen, creative director at World's Edge, first played the Age Of Empires series, he was still working at Westwood Studios on Command & Conquer. "The first thing I was impressed about more than anything with this series was just like, wow! History! That's really smart," he tells me. "Like, there's no need to explain anything to people. You don't have to be like, oh, there's a laser gun or this is a magic missile. It's like, it's a wheelbarrow. I know what that does!" To Isgreen, it's this level of accessibility that's carried Age Of Empires all the way to today's 25th anniversary. The instantly legible historical warfare - "pikemen, ranged units and cavalry" - paired with randomised maps that promised, effectively, an infinite amount of replayability; "It just had a lot of features that I think players really loved and kind of defined itself along those features in a way that, yeah, it's just outlasted everything else." |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, October 25, 2022 9:37 AM Praise the sun! Dark Souls II's online features for the Scholar Of The First Sin edition are back up and working after months of being down. Back in January, FromSoftware deactivated online features for the Dark Souls trilogy on PC due to the prominence of hackers and security concerns. Recently, Dark Souls III servers were reactivated (before being deactivated and reactivated again) and now it's Dark Souls II's turn. The base version of Dark Souls II will have these features "made available at a later date," but for now, Scholar Of The First Sin players can continue to invade the fallen kingdom of Drangleic and scribble down messages for others. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, October 25, 2022 8:00 AM The Activision Blizzard King Workers Alliance have teamed up with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) union to file another charge of unfair labour practices against Activision Blizzard. The filing is in response to a message described as anti-union that was sent by Activision Blizzard's communications executive, Lulu Meservey, to 18,000 employees last week. The CWA had previously filed a charge of unfair labour practices in September 2021, accusing the company of violating US labour laws and stopping employees from discussing working conditions. Last year's complaint was closed just a month later. |

Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 3:30 PM Good Smile Company revealed new Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- figures are on the way, and this time they are Nendoroid Dolls of the twins Ram and Rem. Each one arrives wearing her maid uniform. Both of them also include a hand part that allows the sisters to hold hands. They will appear in Japan in August 2023 and in North America in November 2023. They will cost $58.99/¥8,900 each. People can also purchase the outfit alone for $35.99/¥5,400. As Nendoroid Doll releases function differently than typical Nendoroids, these Re:Zero figures don't come with as many extras. Both the Ram and Rem ones each come with one face plate. There are no extra accessories for them to hold. However, they do come with three different kinds of hands. There's a pair with them open, another pair with them pointing, and a final part that makes it look like they are holding hands. You also get the full maid outfit, which comes with the dress, its collar, a bustier to go around it, arm covers for each arm, knee-high socks, underwear, and a pair of shoes. These shoes are magnetic and work with the included magnetic base to help with posing. There is also a magnetic articulated stand to help hold each character up. Here's a closer look at the Ram and Rem Re:Zero Nendoroid Dolls together. And this is what the outfit looks like alone. It is compatible with all Nendoroid Doll figures. The Re:Zero Ram and Rem Nendoroid Dolls will appear in August 2023 in Japan and November 2023 in North America. Pre-orders are open for the figures and outfit until November 23, 2022. The game will have "couple-raising battle fantasy RPG" as a genre with a release window in 2023. In addition, Square Enix also revealed the key staff list for Towatsugai. ILCA's Nao Hakumoto is responsible for writing the game's concept and world settings, and the illustrator Yukisame is creating the character designs. Keiichi Okabe of NieR:Automata fame will not be the only composer for the title, as fellow Monaca composer Shotaro Seo will also join him. The teaser trailer for Towatsugai is available to watch right below. It shows that the game will tell a story about two girls who always want to stick together, even when external forces force them to separate from each other. Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 2:00 PM Square Enix shared more information about some of the characters and gameplay mechanics in the upcoming Crisis Core FFVII Reunion. In addition to previously described elements, Reno and Rude of the Turks were re-introduced, as was Professor Hojo. There's also a fresh explanation of features like Missions and the Digital Mind Wave system. [Thanks, Game Watch!] Reno and Rude are partners and members of the Turks, a group within Shinra Electric Power Company's Public Safety Division. Reno (CV: Keiji Fujiwara) is gaudy-looking and arrogant. Meanwhile, Rude (CV: Taiten Kusunoki) is compassionate, despite being quiet and seemingly unapproachable. Professor Hojo (CV: Shigeru Chiba) heads Shinra's science department. He leads the Jenova Project and is deeply involved with SOLDIER research, often conducting experiments on humans. Of particular note regarding these character introductions is that Reno will still be voiced by Keiji Fujiwara. Fujiwara, who provided the Japanese voice for Reno throughout much of the Final Fantasy VII series, died of cancer in April 2020. Square Enix also talked more about Crisis Core FFVII Reunion gameplay. For example, missions will be given to Zack Fair, a member of SOLDIER and the game's protagonist, by both the Shinra Company and the townsfolk. These are separate from the game's main storyline and will reward players with items such as Materia, with harder missions offering better rewards. Furthermore, the Digital Mind Wave (DMW) functions as the game's Limit Break system. When used, slot wheels will spin automatically during battle. If they stop on matching patterns, Zack can receive buffs and perform Limit Break attacks. The DMW can also enter Summon and Chocobo Modes. During these modes, the reels' patterns all become either summons or creatures, depending on the mode. Should all three patterns match when the reels stop, the summon/creature shown is called into battle to unleash a powerful attack. However, if the reels don't stop on matching portraits while in Chocobo Mode, it will trigger a Dud, dealing damage to Zack and inflicting him with Stun. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion will release for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on December 13, 2022. Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 1:30 PM Square Enix took to the official FFXIV website to go over measures it will take to fight RMT (real money trading) activity in the MMORPG. Most notably, it mentioned that it will put more employees in charge of monitoring and taking action against these kinds of actions, which are illegal and can result in bans. In the announcement, Square Enix specified three actions it will take to help decrease FFXIV RMT activity. The first involved staffing up, to ensure more people are on hand to address issues. It also mentioned that new procedures will be put in place and tools updated. However, it didn't mention what these new actions could look like or involve or details how tool improvements will aid in catching players who engage in these acts. The additional staff could be put toward things like assisting in sifting reports. Part of the measures Square Enix uses to identify and halt RMT activity in FFXIV involves user reports. People who see other players advertising RMT are able to be reported both in chat or in the system menu. In chat, there is automatically a "report RMT activity" option if you select someone's avatar name under "report." If you didn't catch things in the chat, but did still witness illegal activity, that can be reported at the Support Desk under the "report cheating" category. Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. The FFXIV All Saints' Wake Halloween event is running in-game until November 1, 2022, and themed cosmetic items are on sale until November 17, 2022. Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 12:00 PM Early in October 2022, Sonic Frontiers composer Tomoya Ohtani revealed the 150-song soundtrack would be available, with a six-CD physical release coming in Japan. Now, Ohtani offered a little clarification to explain why the soundtrack is so large. It turns out there is a wealth of unique music in the game, with every Cyber Space location and Guardian's Battle fight getting its own track. Here's Ohtani's official explanation, which he shared on Twitter.
While the full Sonic Frontiers soundtrack isn't available yet, Sega did share some of the songs online on YouTube. First, the ending theme "Vandalize," by One OK Rock, appeared. After that, the theme song "I'm Here" showed up. That is performed by To Octavia singer Merry Kirk-Holmes. The most recent one is "Cyber Space DJ Mix." It is described as a mix of Cyber Space songs. In case you missed it, here's the "Cyber Space DJ Mix" video. Sonic Frontiers will come out for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch on November 8, 2022. The physical version of the soundtrack will appear in Japan on December 7, 2022, and it should appear worldwide at about the same time. Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 11:30 AM Hobby Japan revealed that Amakuni will produce a new batch of figures modeled after Ann "Panther" Takamaki from Persona 5. The former opened a new webpage for people in Japan to pre-order the figure at 19,800 yen (~$134). Hobby Japan will close the pre-orders on December 13, 2022, and Amakuni will deliver the finished products between January and February 2024. This figure initially appeared in 2017. Amakuni created a 1:7 scale figure of Ann in her Panther Phantom Thief attire. The owner can also opt to remove the mask to reveal her full face. Hobby Japan opened the pre-orders from late April to early June 2017 with a price tag of 13,800 yen (approximately $125 with the currency rate at that time). After closing the pre-orders, the company delivered the first batch of figures in early 2018. [gallery ids="937964,937962,937963" link="file"] Ann, who is better known in Japan by the alternative spelling Anne Takamaki, was also the first Amakuni figure of a Persona 5 character. Shortly after finishing Ann's figure prototype, Amakuni also produced Phantom Thief figures of Futaba Sakura and Makoto "Queen" Niijima. Amakuni designed this figure after Ann "Panther" Takamaki's appearance in the original Persona 5, which came out on PlayStation 4 and 3 in 2016. Atlus released multiplatform ports and remasters of the enhanced PS4 release Persona 5 Royal for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on October 21, 2022. Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 11:00 AM People who decided to "live" on the new Final Fantasy XIV North American Data Center worlds of Halicarnassus, Maduin, Marilith, and Seraph will soon get to take part in the housing lottery, as the official FFXIV site confirmed the real estate market is about to open. On November 4, 2022, folks will be able to take part in the lottery and get their own residences. However, before the real estate market opens up, people will be able to visit and look around the residential areas there on November 1, 2022. The official announcement also confirmed the division of housing in the FFXIV worlds of Halicarnassus, Maduin, Marilith, and Seraph. As usual, Wards 13 through 24 will all be designated as Private Plots for anyone. The other homes in Wards 1-12 will be available for Free Company representatives to buy. As a reminder, a FFXIV housing lottery takes place over nine days. The first five days are designated as an "entry period," during which people can apply to buy houses that are available. For four days after that, you can check in to see if you won the opportunity to buy that home during the "results period." If you did, you then need to pay the price in order to complete the transaction and move into it. If you don't pay for your purchase after being picked within those four days, you miss your chance to get it. If the first FFXIV Halicarnassus, Maduin, Marilith, and Seraph housing lottery follows the typical schedule, players can expect the entry period to last from November 4-9, 2022. Then, the results period will last from November 10-14, 2022. Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 10:30 AM Not long after the new ghost Pokemon made its debut in a Pokemon Scarlet and Violet video, Nintendo shared additional trailer and details for the dog-like buddy now dubbed Greavard. It is a pure ghost-type that is known for being friendly and (unintentionally) dangerous. Greavard is about the same size as an actual dog, as the Pokemon's details confirm it is about two feet tall and weighs around 77 lbs. It knows the Pickup ability, which means it might pick up items both in and out of battles. Nintendo didn't share any signature moves for it yet, but it did note that the "Ghost Dog Pokemon" is known for its "powerful jaws" and ability to "absorb life-force" just by being around someone. In the wild, you might not initially see a Greavard roaming around. Rather, you'll only see the candle on the top of its head peeking above the ground. If you get too close, then it will appear. Here's the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Greavard trailer. The initial video revealing the character showed how it might inadvertently harm someone nearby. A person is filming ghost-type Pokemon and happens upon the character. As the two play fetch, the person filming's life-force is gradually zapped away. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will come to the Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022. The post Greavard is a Pure Ghost-Type in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 10:00 AM There's finally an update on Twitter regarding the Dark Souls PC server situation, following Bandai Namco and FromSoftware taking them offline to work on fixing a security update. However, not every version of every game will be returning. The company announced that people can now play Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin online on PCs again as of October 25, 2022. However, Dark Souls II's DX9 base version and Dark Souls Remastered servers aren't available live yet, and Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will not be returning. As a reminder, this all started back on January 23, 2022. Bandai Namco and FromSoftware announced a security exploit forced them to take all PVP servers offline. At the time, it referred to it as "temporarily" taking action. However ahead of the Elden Ring launch, the companies noted repairs weren't ready and wouldn't show up until after that game's debut. The official announcement didn't note any expected release window for the base version of Dark Souls II servers, but it did clarify what is keeping Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition online elements from returning. The announcement cited the game's age as a factor, noting repairs were unable as a result. Here's the official explanation:
As a reminder, Dark Souls III servers are already back online. Bandai Namco and FromSoftware announced restored service for it back in August 2022. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is available on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Dark Souls II can be found on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin is out on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. The post Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Online Features Return appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 9:30 AM On October 24, 2022, a new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer placeholder teased the debut of an additional ghost type Pokemon, and now it's confirmed that the new character looks like a dog with a candle on its head. The official name for the character has yet to be revealed. Here's the full video. It started by confirming some returning ghost-types showing up will be Gengar and Mimikyu. Then, it showed the person filming the footage playing with the new ghostly dog. The character seems friendly, playing fetch with the character behind the camera. However, the more the two play together, the more unnaturally exhausted the person gets. New Pokemon reveals for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet showed up at a pretty steady pace ahead of launch. For example, earlier in October the new electric-type Bellibolt appeared. This is a frog-like character folks will see in the wild and face when fighting the Electric Gym leader Iono. Grafaiai is a new evolution for Girafarig. People will be able to ride around on Cyclizar. Pawmi, Smoliv, and the legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon also debut in this entry. The Diglett-like character called Wiglett is a water-type that shows up around beaches. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will come to the Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022. Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 9:01 AM Bayonetta is both a character and game series dedicated to style and substance, and one that relishes in the sort of suggestive situations that offer sly sexiness. Risque? Of course, but in a way in which its heroine holds all the control. Which is why everyone who knows and loves Bayonetta will be pleased to know Bayonetta 3 is as glorious as ever, taking time to review all you love while adding fantastic new elements and bits of lore to build up an already wonderful world. Multiverses are everywhere in media as of late, and Bayonetta 3 is the latest game to embrace the concept. The story begins with Bayonetta in the midst of a fight against an overwhelming foe, matching her blow for blow. A young woman named Viola watches, desperate to help make any sort of difference. But while she can't do anything in this world, a quick jump finds her falling into another world and meeting another Bayonetta. (Though really, she's dropping into Enzo's lap.) These other worlds are being wiped out, which means Bayonetta and Viola head to Thule to see if something can be done to save different worlds while Jeanne heads to find a scientist named Sigurd who is also critical to the witches' success. What follows is an opportunity to see what might have been, while also trying to save what we know and love. While Viola is the new kid on the block, her personality works well alongside the established characters. Especially since she's the sort of person who is trying to be strong and is definitely skilled, but a lot of that comes across as teenage bravado. As grown-up as she'll try to be, she's definitely not as suave or confident as someone like Bayonetta, which allows the two to play well off of each other. Plus, there are some fun geeky moments, such as her basically performing a Stand Cry a la Jotaro's "Ora Ora Ora" when Cheshire is fighting alongside her and she's barehanded. Right off the bat, it is an accommodating and accessible game. The way the story is handled is one way in which it never leaves people out. Appearances and teases are extra fun if you do know who folks are. If you don't, there's enough context through character interactions, imagery, supplemental information, and dialogue to help get you up to pace. The accessibility also comes through in gameplay, with three difficulty levels you can choose between at any time. Naive Angel is basically a family-friendly mode that will do things like replace Rodin's cigar with something to eat or keep Bayonetta's clothes on while she's performing a Demon Masquerade dance to control one of her demons. I also feel like the Immortal Marionette accessory will be great for people with mobility issues, due to it essentially allowing you to button mash to perform combos instead of use specific inputs. There's a lot here that feels like it says, "We want you to enjoy yourself, no matter how young, old, new, or familiar you are with gaming and the series." It's easy to Revel in Bayonetta 3's Gameplay on the Switch. As always, Bayonetta 3 gameplay relies upon timing, knowing what inputs correspond to helpful attacks, chaining together combos, dodging accurately to trigger Witch Time to slow time and counter-attack. The more time you spend thinking about what you are capable of and knowing input strings so you can react appropriately, the better it will be. As usual, you are given ample opportunity to test out possible combos, with things like loading screens letting you see how strings are implemented and can change. However, the loading times are so short that you can't rely on that time to test things out. Attacks feel like they have heft to them, with strikes feeling satisfying as you build up combos and your overall score. I'd also say the range of weaponry also feels like it's designed to make things feel more suitable for every player. For example, Bayonetta's Colour My World guns are the traditional, swift option. When equipped, you can briefly transform into Madama Butterfly to glide while jumping. The Ignis Araneae Yo-Yo is far more speedy, with a jump that swings into position when temporarily transformed into Phantasmaraneae. G-Pillar is slower and hits hard, though blasting off has the benefit of extending Bayonetta's range and height while not offering the sense of positioning as Colour My World. You pick what feels best for you in most situations, tailoring the experience to ensure your success. Viola's segments also fit right in, with her swordplay and barehanded fisticuffs allowing for similarly intricate combos. Speaking of satisfying, the demons are so much fun in Bayonetta 3. There are times when Bayonetta is the Kaiju beat'em up I didn't know I wanted. Madama Butterfly is always a big help, thanks to melee and ranged attacks that always feel like they deal admirable levels of damage. I was amazed that Phantasmaraneae is so dexterous and capable, especially since I was concerned the wall-crawling capabilities could lead to some disorientation and maybe even motion-sickness. I also loved using Baal. Starting up a Demon Slave dance, especially knowing that the gauge is easy to refill and I don't need to "save" those attacks for big moments, is a joy. Not to mention that certain segments in which they play a large part means that the gameplay can feel a bit different when they're around. Bayonetta 3 isn't Afraid to Switch Things UpI also loved how there's more to chapters in Bayonetta 3 than you'd expect, inviting you to return to completed areas. The path you "should" probably take might often seem rather obvious. However, if you keep an eye out, collectibles, additional challenges, and new ways to get where you are going often present themselves. You might even get a Bewitchment "achievement" acknowledging that "Hey, you find something secret" when you do. I especially loved how some of these involve manipulating time to solve a puzzle to earn a reward, since it means you aren't always trying to get from point A to point B or beat the hell out of a horde to do well. Not to mention, the visible shadow under a character no matter the form means it is easy to see if a safe landing on a stable platform is possible, meaning any platforming elements or challenges don't become unnecessarily frustrating. The sense of diversification goes beyond these large scale fights and supplemental challenges. Jeanne stars in side-chapters, for example. In her 2D segment, the priority will be to navigate floors in a building and ideally avoiding being caught. Stealth kills are a necessity, there are places to duck into, you can come across great weapons or even a "special" ability, and need to use wits to get to a goal in time. It breaks things up, while still being challenging in its own way. As fabulous as characters like Bayonetta and Jeanne are and Bayonetta 3 can be, there are times when it isn't completely flawless. For example, there are certain set pieces that don't run as smoothly as others due to the level of activity occurring. This particularly applies to segments during which players find themselves constantly on the move while dealing with oversized opponents and smaller minions. I found I misjudged a jump at one point as a result, which can be an issue since scores might matter for some. This didn't turn out to be a frequent issue for me, but it can come up in specific chapters. Speaking of portions of Bayonetta 3 not being at their best, there are times when some Demons may not feel as fluid and enjoyable as others. I'm not the biggest fan of Wartrain Gouon, given the need to swiftly lay out tracks and determine when it will attack to maximize its damage, though in application it makes you think about effectively using its range and strength. This doesn't mean there are obvious inequalities. Rather, there are some demons that might not "click" with a player. Given the number available, it's not too much of an issue, especially since someone typically can equip up to three and switch between them on the fly. If you are "forced" into using one during a stage, it usually is more of a "tutorial" example to help someone get acclimated to the new character. Bayonetta 3 is Simply a Beautiful Game. The thing is, even though there might be a brief hitch or minor moment during a flurry of activity, there is never a moment in which Bayonetta 3 doesn't look stunning on the Switch. It is a beautiful game that takes full advantage of the hardware. Especially on an OLED model, as I felt like the colors standing out even in areas that might have been slightly darker or filled with similar sorts of textures. The character models are all quite detailed, with personality popping based on outfits and subtle animations. Jennifer Hale does an admirable job with the role, especially considering everything happening in the story. The soundtrack is also spot-on and perfectly suited for the adventure. It feels like Bayonetta 3 is a chance for the series to stretch its wings, what with its well-told story, generally tight gameplay, and incredible cast. It is so easy to get lost in its world. I'd long to return to it, to see how to earn medals I'd missed during the first run through a stage, beat my previous scores, and just savor certain segments or boss fights. Bayonetta 3 is over-the-top in every possible way, and I get the feeling newcomers and long-time fans of the series will appreciate that. Bayonetta 3 will come to the Nintendo Switch on October 28, 2022. The post Review: Bayonetta 3 is a Lovely Moonlight Serenade appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Tuesday, October 25, 2022 8:30 AM The Final Fantasy XIV Online Store update for Halloween didn't only include costumes and pumpkin-based decorations, as it also meant the FFXIV Lotus mount is available everywhere. When the shop updated on October 25, 2022, the Mechanical Lotus joined the optional collection alongside the Clown's Attire, Modern Cosmetics: Clowning Around, Authentic Haunted Pumpkin Set, and Authentic Pumpkin Flower Vase. The FFXIV Mechanical Lotus mount first appeared in the Chinese version of the game back in April 2022. The worldwide release of it remains the same. When used, the person's avatar sits serenely in the center, with a calming glow and gilded butterfly hovering nearby. It costs $24. An official video offers a better look at the effect. As for the other items, they consist of two cosmetics and two furnishings. The $5 Clown's Attire gives a FFXIV player the Clown's Hat, Clown's Top, Clown's Shortgloves, Clown's Bottoms, and Clown's Boots. You can use dye on them to change their color, as shown in the official screenshots. The $4 Modern Cosmetics: Clowning Around provides matching face paint for it. Finally, the $5 Authentic Haunted Pumpkin Set and $5 Authentic Pumpkin Vase are furnishings. You will need access to a house in FFXIV in order to use them. The Authentic Haunted Pumpkin Set is the larger of the two. There is also an All Saints' Wake Halloween sale in effect in the FFXIV Online Store until November 17, 2022. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, October 25, 2022 3:30 PM Consumers eager to jump on Nvidia's next-generation GPUs now have powerful RTX 4090s in hand. However, it seems that two owners of the new graphics card have faced a rather troubling issue. The power connector on the 12VHPWR cables for the RTX 4090 appears to have melted in two separate instances. This is obviously quite worrying, especially since this graphics card is by no means cheap. The first report of this occurring was from Reddit user u/reggie_gakil. Their post contains a close-up of the connector and the port which show signs of melting. Another user posted about the same issue, which indicates that the cables could be far more fragile than anyone expected. Nvidia's RTX 4090 uses a 16-pin 12VHPWR power connector which is also featured on its RTX 3090 Ti graphics card. It seems that this particular cable is susceptible to damage if the wires close to the connector are bent too far. This can cause the terminals to come lose or misalign with the connector. This... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, October 25, 2022 3:00 PM Discord voice chat integration looks to be making its way to PlayStation consoles. A recent leak shows that the popular messaging and voice chat platform has a PlayStation version in development. Data miner Advaith posted a series of screenshots on Twitter showcasing what looks to be PlayStation support. These screenshots show an option to "Join voice on PlayStation," alongside the existing "Join on Xbox." Interestingly, it appears as though this option is only available on PlayStation 5. On PlayStation 4 you will only be able to display what game you're playing but not join voice chats. This could be a technical limitation or something that gets changed in the future. The final screenshot shows how Discord integration will work on PlayStation. To use Discord, you'll have to sign in with your PlayStation ID. Discord itself will redirect you to the official Sony website to streamline this process. This is similar to how it has worked on Xbox si... |

The game is a cooperative first-person shooter in which players take on the role of characters trying to fight back against the vampires infesting the fictional town of Redfall. While Redfall was unfortunately delayed until the first half of 2023, that hasn't stopped Arkane from releasing a new Redfall trailer just in time for Halloween. The new Redfall Into the Night trailer can be seen in all its glory below. It features a new look at some of the varied vampires that players will be going up against in the final release. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, October 25, 2022 2:00 PM Creating balance in a FromSoftware title is seemingly difficult to maintain. And Elden Ring has proven to be no different, as it just got a patch that undid a hefty addition to the meta. Of course, it's important to keep the difficulty of the game at a certain level. If an ability threatens to shift the balance too far in one direction, it makes sense to remove or downscale it in some way. This is exactly what has happened to the Endure skill in Elden Ring. Elden Ring's 1.07.1 patch is a small hotfix that sets out to address two issues. The main change is rather funny, though. Patch 1.07 introduced a buff to the Ash of War skill Endure, which seriously shook up the meta in Elden Ring. Essentially, the duration of Endure was extended, allowing players to absorb incoming damage for a longer period of time. Alongside this, the skill then prevented stagger from bleed or frostbite status effects. All in all, the change was very positive for the ability, but it was just a bit too... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, October 25, 2022 1:30 PM The online servers for the Dark Souls games have gone through a lot this year. Just before the release of Elden Ring near the beginning of 2022, FromSoftware announced that it had to remove all online functionality from its Dark Souls games on PC due to some dangerous security issues. Just a few months ago, the studio announced that Dark Souls 3 was up and running again, but patient fans were still waiting to hear news about the first two games in the series. Now, FromSoftware has revealed that it resolved the online woes for Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin. The news comes from the official Twitter account which says that the online functionality of the Scholar of the First Sin version (running on DX11) has been restored. The studio is working to restore online features for the base version of the game (running on DX9) and this fix will come at an unspecified later date.
