Kotaku Thursday, September 26, 2024 4:55 PM Trying to describe Echo Point Nova, a newly released PC shooter, is a tricky thing. In this RPG, you can become whoever you want to be. More often than not, though, the goal is to earn enough cash to buy the best ride that money can buy. Of course, there are other similar games available, so if you'd rather take to the crime-filled streets, we have all the current Da Hood codes and Pet Simulator 99 codes. If you're extremely lucky (and timely), getting a bunch of free gems in Big Games' latest pet collecting game can be as easy as typing a few letters into a box. As time goes on, though, we expect PS99 codes to become increasingly rare, perhaps even being tied solely to physical merch like plushies, lucky bags, and playsets. We've seen it happen before. Pet Simulator 99 is the third Pet Simulator Roblox game Preston and his team have put out. PCGamesN Thursday, September 26, 2024 7:38 PM September 27, 2024: We've checked for new Murder Mystery 2 codes. What are the newest Murder Mystery codes? Roblox games rarely throw up an intense experience as is offered by MM2, a game where you could be saddled with one of three roles; the murderer, a bystander, or the sheriff. The murderer has to, well, murder. The bystanders have to avoid the wrath of said murderer, and the sheriff has to figure out, and eliminate, the bad person. Sound familiar? This Roblox game is more cerebral than most, which means you'll rely on your wits most of the time. Still, having a helping hand in the form of some freebies via MM2 codes never hurts. PCGamesN Thursday, September 26, 2024 5:00 PM When I think about Steam indies, a few genre cornerstones come to mind. We see a lot of roguelike elements, deckbuilding features, and even management mechanics in the big hitters. Games like Slay the Spire, Cult of the Lamb, Balatro, Hades, and countless more. What can I say, we love randomized decks of cards and running societies. If you want a new game with all these elements combined, the newly revealed Kaya's Prophecy is for you. We're not left wanting in the indie scene - A Hat in Time, New Super Lucky's Tale, and the upcoming Rollin' Rascal are all truly brilliant - but we don't get 'mainstream' entries in the genre that much anymore. Of course, there's Astro Bot, Crash Bandicoot 4, and Ratchet and Clank, but I want even more new ideas. PCGamesN Thursday, September 26, 2024 3:46 PM It's an open secret that I have a Master's degree in War Studies. Having focused on World War II and its portrayals in modern media for my undergraduate thesis, I'm always fascinated by allohistorical videogames - ones which take contemporary settings, and add things like hulking machinery, dinosaurs, and laser guns. Grit and Valor - 1949 does just that, transporting Armored Core-style mechs into a grimy WWII setting where you represent a fragmented resistance that's determined to rise up against Axis rule. PCGamesN Thursday, September 26, 2024 3:21 PM Sometimes, a game comes along and builds a level of mystique based on glowing word of mouth about the surprises contained within. Inscryption was one of these games, as was Doki Doki Literature Club. Last year, it was Slay the Princess, a horror visual novel with the unassumingly straightforward premise of being tasked with saving the world by killing an entrapped princess. Of course, a good story can never be quite so simple, and the game's plot unfolds with the kind of twists and turns that get players excited to spread the word about what they've experienced. PCGamesN Thursday, September 26, 2024 3:31 PM The challenge for MMOs is that they need to do everything all at once. They'll have an open-world, crafting, PvE, PvP, and content for every step along the way from the start of your journey to its end. Some, however, lean towards one of these pillars a little more than the others. In the case of Throne and Liberty, which is out now in the West in early access before its full launch, the focus is definitely on PvP, with its large-scale battles having huge ramifications for the entire game. PCGamesN Thursday, September 26, 2024 3:08 PM There are few games that have come out this year and attracted quite as much attention as Manor Lords. The debut from lone developer Slavic Magic, Manor Lords may still be in Early Access, but it's already one of the most extensive medieval life simulators to date, even unfinished. With settlement building systems like those found in Frostpunk 2 or Cities: Skylines 2, army management in the style of a less involved Total War: Medieval, and battles reminiscent of Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, the game is an ambitiously and already successfully realized vision. And now's the perfect time to play it for yourself as it's just received a substantial discount that lowers it to its cheapest price on Steam yet. PCGamesN Thursday, September 26, 2024 3:05 PM Bounty hunting is a career that I'm sure is far more exciting in videogames than it is in real life. Most games turn it into a head-hunting affair of blasting foes until you get the one you want, whereas in reality it's probably more to do with parole violations. Nevertheless, the dream of bounty hunting in gaming is still strong, and games like Last Helion show there's a lot of life left in that career path, especially when it's happening in space. PCGamesN Thursday, September 26, 2024 1:27 PM Chrono Trigger, the 1995 RPG game from Square Enix, has had an enormous influence on recent indie projects. It's inspiration is clear in JRPG-style games like last year's Sea of Stars, 2022's Chained Echoes, 2018's CrossCode, and 2017's Cosmic Star Heroine. As made clear by the announcement of Threads of Time, a new throwback RPG with Octopath Traveler 2-style 2.5D art that made its debut at Tokyo Game Show, the trend of Chrono Trigger homages won't be coming to an end any time in the near future. |

PCGamesN Thursday, September 26, 2024 12:40 PM Age of Mythology: Retold is one of the best strategy games to come out this year. As the genre moves forward with new entries like Frostpunk 2, Manor Lords, and Homeworld 3, it's also looked back to a classic RTS that originally launched all the way back in 2002 as an Age of Empires spin-off. While Retold hasn't come out without a degree of controversy focused on its microtransactions, the core of the game itself is solid, with the remake serving as a good way for newcomers or experienced players to check out Age of Mythology on modern systems. It's also about to make up for one glaring absence from its launch, adding in units and gods inspired by Chinese mythology with the newly announced Immortal Pillars DLC. SuperGroupies will release new merchandise of Fire Emblem: Three Houses to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the game. In total, there are ten new items, all drawing inspiration from the older versions of the house leaders (and also Byleth). Pre-orders close on October 15, 2024 and you can expect your items some time in late January 2025.
For 9900 JPY ($68.45), you can get an umbrella that's based off the character of your choice. Each umbrella features the character's color scheme, symbol, and a crest charm hanging off the handle. The symbol of the house they're from is also on the bag. The inside of the umbrella also uses the same pattern as the carpet in the character's room. As a note, this umbrella can double as a parasol as well.
For the Fire Emblem: Three Houses house leaders, SuperGroupies will also release bags and wallets. Prices differ for the bags, but the wallets are all 15,400 JPY ($106.35). Like the umbrella, all of the items use the character's color theme, as well as motifs from their houses or designs. For example, the Blaiddyd crest, Dimitri's eyepatch, and a faux fur ornament hangs from Dimitri's wallet.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is readily available on the Nintendo Switch. As a reminder, SuperGroupies offers international delivery through WorldShopping, so you can buy the Fire Emblem: Three House merchandise (and more) even if you live overseas.

I spend a lot of time in World of Warcraft now. Either by choice, or obligation. (I write a lot of guides, OK.) And the one thing that I, as a casual player, feel is missing from the otherwise content-packed MMORPG is a photomode. Yes, I know you can get something like a photomode in World of Warcraft, either through an optional quest that unlocks a camera of sorts, or through the use of add-ons. But I want something in-game, something more substantial, because of those that aren't as artistically inclined, in-game photography is a way for us to express ourselves and show off our characters.
While I don't dabble in Final Fantasy XIV as much as I used to, the photomode in that MMORPG is pretty great by comparison. It doesn't have the same heft as something you'd see in your stock-and-standard AAA game, but it works and players have gotten creative with it. Square Enix has also expanded upon it's features, adding the ability to freeze frame combat poses, add additional effects to your character, and so forth.
What I'm craving in World of Warcraft is a few of those features. That freeze frame is something I constantly think about when my Death Knight uses Howling Blast, and I yearn for the ability to take a freeze frame of him pointing his sword, surrounded by the swirling cold. I yearn to zoom in to get a nice profile shot of my character, or even allow him to look pensive as he stare out over the unforgiving tundra of Northrend. I know in the screenshot below it looks like he's doing just that, but I want a closer zoom in without entering the body of my character and swapping to first person mode. I want to frame the picture in a way that highlights him and the environment. Not one or the other. And I wanna do it easily!
World of Warcraft has some truly stunning vistas, especially in The War Within, and getting attractive screenshots of this is fairly easy. Especially if you're traveling using the in-game flight paths that give you scenic tours of these gorgeous new areas. But please Blizzard, I just want to take cool screenshots of my character.
One of my favorite pastimes in Final Fantasy XIV, or even in MMORPGs, it just taking pictures. Whether it's to make an edit, or just to make something cool that I can show off to friends that more or less encapsulates the vibe of my character. I want to tell a story with my screenshots, I want people to look at my character and wonder what their deal is, or just appreciate the lighting and composition. I wish I could do the same in World of Warcraft. Not just for my Death Knight, but for my Marksman Hunter or my Assassinate Rogue. Getting pictures of them using their skills in action, as janky as they are would just be neat.
It'd be another way to show off your transmogs as well. All of the items you've worked hard to farm from Mythic and Heroic Raids and Dungeons. And your mounts as well! There are some cool ones that I've picked up, and being able to take screenshots with them, much like I can do in Final Fantasy XIV would be awesome. (Square Enix please don't get mad at me for installing a Summoner mod that replaces Bahamut with Ultima. I just love Ivalice too much.)
But who knows, adding a photomode to World of Warcraft might no be possible given how old the game is, and I might have to cave in and use and add-on to make this happen. If that's the case, well, I might report back and tell all of you how that goes. If not, then know that I'm still standing around in Northrend at odd hours of the day, waiting for the lightning to strike behind Ice Crown Citadel and praying that my character turns his head slightly to the left.
World of Warcraft available for PC. Final Fantasy XIV is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.

The PS5 port of Palworld is available to try out at TGS, but despite the event taking place in Japan, the Japanese will need to wait until they can play this version of the game at home. For "various reasons," there is no Palworld PS5 release date for Japan at the moment. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
As a reminder, if you want to go check out the demo, Makuhari Messe is open to the public on September 28 and 29, 2024. On September 28, 2024, you'll have from 10 AM to 5 PM. Then, on the 29th, you'll have 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. You can find it at the Pocketpair booth, which also features giant figures and recreations of Pals and in-game items.
Since Palworld came out in early 2024, people have enjoyed its Ark-like gameplay. It's not exactly the "Pokemon with guns" that Pocketpair marketed itself as. But the uncanny similarities between the designs of its Pals and existing Pokemon cannot be ignored. Nintendo has even filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair as a result of patent infringement, which may have something to do with why Pocketpair has no plans at the moment to release the PS5 version of the game in its native Japan.
Palworld is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and macOS.

NieR Automata is one of the most beloved action JRPGs of all time. There is a reason the main characters like 2B and 9S are still crossing over into other games many years after release. With so many different NieR Automata crossovers that have happened in other games, which is the best NieR Automata crossover and how do they all rank?
What Is the Best NieR Automata Crossover?
In terms of the overall best NieR Automata crossover, it is quite a simple answer: the crossover with FFXIV Shadowbringers. This crossover brought a 24-player Alliance Raid series of three raids for players to complete. The story was quite intriguing, adding some fascinating extra lore. It brought together new characters like 2P alongside familiar fan-favorites like 2B and 9S.
This is easily the best crossover since it contained exceptional content — some of the best Alliance Raid content in the whole MMO — and made the already masterful expansion even better.
All NieR Automata Crossovers, Ranked
There are 24 crossovers that NieR Automata has had with other games, including titles in its own series. That is quite a lot of crossovers, but some of them are quite simple and only include some cosmetics or tiny cameos for less interesting games. That said, other crossovers have substantial new content in terms of quests, guest characters, and even full-on dungeons or raids. Here are all of the NieR Automata crossovers ranked from best to worst.
Do you have a favorite NieR Automata crossover? Or one you think doesn't feel quite right? Let us know in the comments below!
NieR Automata is available right now for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

For starters, here is a trailer of the Monster Hunter and Digimon toy:
The Monster Hunter 20th Edition Digimon will let you raise Rathalos, Zinogre, Khezu, Rajang, Tigrex, Nargacuga, Gore Magala, Mizutsune, and more. In total, there will be 36 Monster Hunter creatures for you to raise in the Monster Hunter 20th Edition Digimon Color toys. At Tokyo Game Show 2024, several new Elden Ring statues and jewelry pieces were revealed by Torch Torch. One of the main highlights is the first public display of the completed prototype for the Ranni the witch statue, which has undergone significant changes since its last exhibit two years ago. Fans can view the nearly finished model at the event.
You can view the official post below:
In addition to the Ranni statue, several jewelry pieces designed after in-game icons from Elden Ring are being showcased for the first time. This includes pieces modeled after the Dagger Talisman, Claw Talisman, Spectral Steed Whistle, Millicent's prosthetic arm, Companion Jar, and Dark Moon Ring, all of which are currently in production. More information about these items will appear at a later date.
In related news, pre-orders for the Elden Ring Ranni Nendoroid, previously revealed at WonHobby 36 by Good Smile Company were announced. Perhaps the most intriguing lore part about The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is its place in the convoluted, overarching Zelda timeline. Is it related to the recent Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom games? Is it a sequel to Link's Awakening? What about A Link to the Past and its Hyrule? Here are my thoughts. Note: full spoilers ahead.
Does The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Connect to BOTW and TOTK?
As mentioned, I am going to be giving full spoilers ahead for all Zelda games, including Echoes of Wisdom. If you haven't played this latest title to completion, turn away now. With that said, before we can get into where this game falls in the official timeline, it is worth talking about two of the latest games: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Echoes of Wisdom seems to connect to both of these games, as seen in several areas. For one, there is the Ancient Orb scenario. These orbs highly remind me of the Guardians and their technology, which is seen in both of these games. Plus, there are enemies that resemble their BOTW counterparts like the Lynels. In addition, the powers this particular Zelda has reminds me of the powers we see in this timeline version. That said, I don't for a moment think this is the same Zelda protagonist from those games.
Where Does Echoes of Wisdom Fall in the Timeline?
While the connections to Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild are certainly there, where does Echoes of Wisdom fall in The Legend of Zelda timeline? Until we get official word, this is my personal opinion on the matter. I do believe this game is in the Fallen Hero branch of the timeline, but I, specifically, think the game is after every game there.
There are absolutely similarities to that particular branch, such as Ganon's brief appearance. The world map is similar enough in terms of placement, though there are some changes. But the biggest clue of them all is the appearance of both Zora tribes. The only other game to experience this is Oracle of Ages, which is in that branch of the timeline.
If I had to guess, though, it is a bit more complicated than that. It has long been the thought that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are the culmination of bringing together all three branches. With the similarities this game has to those titles, I actually believe Echoes of Wisdom is the furthest in the Fallen Hero branch and coming up closer to BOTW and TOTK. One of the main proponents behind this placement is how the world map is similar to games like A Link to the Past but it has some BOTW influences like the Faron Wetlands in the southeastern corner. For now, though, we will have to wait and see.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is available right now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

Kotobukiya announced it will release figures of Scarlett and Eltolinde, two of the main heroines and romance options in Unicorn Overlord. Photos of unpainted prototypes of each one appeared on social media, and the company confirmed both will also be on display for the first time at MegaHobby Expo 2024 in Japan on September 28, 2024.
Both the Unicorn Overlord Scarlett and Eltolinde figures will be scale ones, though Kotobukiya didn't explain what size each one will be. Each one features a pose that makes them look as though they are walking. Scarlett, who is a human priestess that acts as a healer, is carrying her staff. Her base has a cobblestone path on it. The elven Turenos Eltolinde carries a spear and appears to be running through grass. Each design seems to be based on Vanillaware's official art.
Here are Kotobukiya's first two photos of the figures. While the current models are unpainted, their eyes are so you have a better idea how they will look.
Both Scarlett and Eltolinde are major characters in Unicorn Overlord. Scarlett is one of the first allies on your team, though various circumstances mean she temporarily leaves early on. Meanwhile, Eltolinde eventually joins your party after going through the Elheim region.
Unicorn Overlord is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X. There's no release window for the Scarlett or Eltolinde figures yet.

Hasbro announced Yahtzee: One Piece, a themed version of Yahtzee that comes with Luffy's Straw Hat, dice, and other items inspired by the anime and manga. It is available for $23.99 and, cosmetic elements aside, plays like any other version of the dice-based game.
Like many of the Hasbro Yahtzee sets, this comes with everything necessary to play the game. Rather than most games, the sheet only keeps track of how many Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Chopper faces come up each turn. Each die has Luffy in the 1 spot, Zoro in 2, Nami as 3, Usopp as 4, Sanji as 5, and Chopper as 6. (This is also the order in which the characters essentially join the Straw Hat Pirates.) Since the numbers are also present on each face, you could also play a more traditional game that includes straights and full houses as well. A set of five themed dice, the themed scoring sheet pad, and a pencil come with the set.
As for the replica of Luffy's straw hat, it is both decorative and designed to be used with the game. You could use it when rolling the dice instead of a cup or your hands. It is made of yellow plastic and designed to look like the one he wears in the show.
Here's the full gallery showing how the item will look:
This is one of multiple One Piece variants of existing board, card, and dice games. For example, there's a version of Monopoly inspired by the series. Standard decks of playing cards show up. Not to mention the existing One Piece Card Game is available worldwide.
The Yahtzee One Piece version is available now. The first season of the One Piece live-action adaptation is on Netflix now, with season 2 on the way. The anime is on both Netflix and Crunchyroll. Viz Media handles the manga outside of Japan.

Both are set to release first in Japan in March 2025, before showing up in Q3 2025 worldwide. They will be priced at ¥6,200 each in Japan and $39.99 each in the US and Canada, and they are only sold separately. Both figures stand approximately 60mm (2.36 inches) in height and come with a stand.
The Kirby: Kirby Café Ver. Nendoroid features three face plates. You get one that is makes him look surprised, another that makes it look like he is munching on food, and an excited one. It also includes extra parts like a café hat, sign, fork, Japanese cream soda, kettle, and piping bag. Magnets are used in parts of the body and hat, allowing for flexible posing options.
Here's how it looks.
The Waddle Dee: Kirby Café Ver. Nendoroid includes two face plates. In one, the character's eyes are open for a standard expression, and in the other they are closed. It comes with a variety of optional parts for posing, such as a hat, apron, frying pan, Waddle Dee's Naptime Omurice, and other accessories. Similar to Kirby, magnets are incorporated for a range of dynamic poses.
This is how the new Waddle Dee appears:
In related news, the Kirby Café Summer 2024 event ran in Tokyo and Hakata, Japan, from July 3, 2024 to September 24, 2024. The event featured pineapple-themed dishes and exclusive summer merchandise, including items like Cook Kawasaki's Tropical Hamburger and Sparkling Pineapple Shave Ice.

HoYoVerse announced that it is celebrating the fourth anniversary of Genshin Impact by giving all of us 1,600 free Primogems and other items as a Gift for a New Horizon. To get it, someone needs to log into the game and claim it. However, players have to check in for multiple days and do so before the 5.1 update arrives to get every reward.
This is a series of mails that will begin showing up in our in-game inboxes on September 28, 2024. That's because Genshin Impact initially debuted on September 28, 2020 four years ago. The first mail to claim as a Firstborn Firesprite and 400 Primogems attached to it. The second, which sends out on September 29, 2024, includes two Fragile Resin and another 400 Primogems. On September 30, 2024, a message with a Sanctifying Elixir and 400 Primogems go out. Finally, the last mail shows up on October 1, 2024, and it features a Kaboom Box and 400 Primogems. As long as someone is above Adventure Rank 2, they will get a total of 1,600 free Primogems in Genshin Impact by the end of it, meaning enough for a full 10-pull on the gacha for the anniversary.
As for the date the promotion ends, we have an idea of that. We know the Kinich and Raiden Shogun banners end on October 8, 2024. The second batch of banners in each version always end the day maintenance for the next update begins. So if you want these free Primogems and rewards, you need to log into the game daily at least four times before October 8, 2024. However, we'll know for sure once the 5.1 Special Program airs on September 27, 2024.
Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the 1,600 Free Primogems will start being mailed out to us in-game on September 28, 2024. The Xbox Series X version of the game will launch on November 20, 2024.

Despite promising an "evolution in historical grand strategy," Ara: History Untold is more of an iteration on the genre, and a fairly mild one at that. It takes Civilization's 4X formula and tweaks it, rather than totally reinventing it. It's competent and Oxide Games is totally capable of getting its hooks into you as many of this genre's forebears have, but this game fails to introduce the kind of interesting new decisions and mechanics it needs to stand out.
Though the name isn't quite as pithy as "Civilization" or "Humankind," 4X fans will slip into Ara: History Untold like an old glove. You found cities, research technologies, and send scouts or armies roving around the map fighting wars and picking up goodies. Where Ara attempts to differentiate itself is in its simultaneous turn system, irregularly shaped map regions, and a crafting system that lets you use tools and resources to boosts your production. More on those later, but first: the leaders.
You'll be picking a leader from a decently sized pool of civilizations, though the mix is a little oddball. Around half are Civ staples like Liz I, Bismarck, Shaka Zulu, and Julius Caeser, which felt a little uninspired. But then the other half ditches the usual kings and generals for less typical choices like the scientist Nicolaus Copernicus, Korean freedom fighter Yu Gwan-sun, and Cherokee community developer Wilma Mankiller. My favorite was Sappho, the Greek poet and patron saint of Lesbianism.
It's a good spread, but each of the leaders only has a single impactful bonus, along with a few minor buffs like a little extra gold in the capital or a slight boost to combat outside their borders. There are no unique units or buildings, or even that many card or unit art variants. The overall aesthetic direction also does the game few favors, landing in the awkward middle ground between stylized and realistic resulting in it mostly being forgettable.
Once you've picked your leader and loaded in, you'll likely notice those irregular map regions. They give the world a more natural aesthetic to be sure, but Humankind did something similar back in 2021 while adding in a level of verticality that makes Ara look flat by comparison. These big, single areas also make traversing terrain less involved, as units traverse the whole region one at a time rather than being affected by rough terrain or forests.
Building works more interestingly, as each region is divided into a different number of zones that can take a single improvement each. Certain buildings or improvements can also buff certain others in the same region, so you'll want to cram complimentary buildings into large regions with a lot of zones. Meanwhile, Wonders take up a whole region so you'll ideally want to put them in smaller regions with only 2 or 3 zones. It's a really nice idea that could let you build up specialized districts, but disappointingly the buffs usually only affect multiples of the same building rather than opening up a choice of synergies with others.
With a bunch of resource improvements and crafters built, you'll be ready to dive into Ara: History Untold's most unique feature: the crafting system. Essentially, the bonus resources like horses or iron can be used to speed up production in your buildings, or crafted into further tools and amenities. Some of these can be used on cities to provide powerful bonuses, like flat city growth or increased science production. Housing improvements like Dwellings can be equipped with a wide array of items to add science or faith production, depending on what you need. Some Wonders and several units also require specific resources, both crafted and non-crafted, so having a robust manufacturing economy is important. Unfortunately, once you have that economy up and running it can VERY quickly become a chore. Micro-managing your factories' inputs and outputs is less fun when you've got 20 or so different workshops by the end of the first big era.
Then there's the simultaneous turns, which end up influencing the flow of gameplay a lot. Rather than directing each unit to move or act within the turn, you set the orders and they execute when you hit end turn. In theory, this means you line up all your plans and hit end turn to see them play out, your armies all marching out in sync. But in practice, it ends up making things feel unsatisfying and floaty, which is not what you'd expect from a turn-based strategy. Part of this is visual, your little soldiers are so small and covered up by badges that you don't get that nice feedback of watching them march out at the same time. While other issues include the way it affects combat. Your units and the enemy's need to meet each other on the same tile, so if you move into their tile and they move into another you will be chasing each other's tail forevermore, to say nothing of how annoying this makes chasing fleeing units or those with more than one movement point per turn. It's an interesting idea, but I cant give it points for originality since not only has it been used for multiplayer modes in Civ before but Humankind also already tried it in singleplayer with similar issues.
I keep bringing up competitors like Civilization and Humankind not just for obvious comparisons or to be cruel, but because Ara: History Untold sought to position itself as big mix up for historical strategy. And I want that! I love this genre, but only having a few big games flying that banner has led to it becoming a bit stale, and more competitors and new ideas could shake things up. But unfortunately, Ara doesn't do much to really drive things forward. Most of the new additions have been tried before and the crafting system, the one actually unique part, fails to add much more than extra busywork and spreadsheeting. It's still totally functional as a historical 4X, easily alluring me back into the one-more-turn mindset, but it doesn't succeed in bringing much that is really new to the table.
Ara: History Untold is available on the PC via Steam, Xbox Game Pass, and the Windows store.
