Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, May 19, 2025 9:52 AM ![]() In classic me fashion, I swanned off for a few days just as another graphics card fracas has spilled out into public view. At the centre this time is the previously unassuming RTX 5060, which you may have noticed is due for launch today yet only has a handful of "hands-on previews" to tell you how big of a graphics it does. Allegedly, that's because Nvidia have been keeping hold of the drivers needed for full reviews, only providing them at the eleventh hour to press outlets that have previously run these previews. No preview? No review, at least until the drivers release publicly later today, and what's more, the same reports say that these previews were only offered under strict testing provisos set by Nvidia themselves. According to VideoCardz and Hardware Unboxed, the mandated test conditions supposedly range from only allowing certain games for benchmarking – judging from the previews currently online, these were Doom: The Dark Ages, Avowed, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy and Marvel Rivals – to the more egregious demand that RTX 5060 performance figures would focus on DLSS 4's Multi Frame Generation (MFG). And, in turn, would only be compared to results from older XX60 GPUs that lack DLSS frame gen support entirely. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, May 19, 2025 9:42 AM ![]() Microsoft have finally broken their silence over reports about the use of Azure and Microsoft generative AI tech by the Israeli military during the latter's on-going invasion and bombardment of Gaza, which has led to the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians. In an unsigned statement published 15th May 2025, Microsoft confirm that they have supplied technology to the Israeli armed forces during the assault on Gaza, which began following the killing and abduction of Israeli civilians on October 7th 2023. They contend, however, that their own internal reporting has found "no evidence to date that Microsoft's Azure and AI technologies have been used to target or harm people in the conflict in Gaza." The news comes a few weeks after the Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions movement called on people to avoid Microsoft games and gaming services in protest at the company's dealings with the Israel Defense Forces. |

It ain't calling me, developer Ovsko. I read the opening words of your description and immediately started running away from my laptop. I'm still running, in fact. This article is being breathlessly dictated to Oisin over the phone. I'm somewhere in the vicinity of Luton, now, and hope to make it all the way to Scotland by the weekend. After that, there'll be the problem of securing naval travel as I continue my headlong flight. Then I'll have to worry about frostbite as I gallop past the North Pole and begin my long traversal of the Pacific. At some point I will reach New Zealand, which - according to this handy antipodal mapping site - is approximately as far away from The Cave Diver Steam page currently loaded on my laptop as I can get without venturing into outer space. I do not rule out venturing into outer space, which is notable for its complete and categorical deficit of caves. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, May 19, 2025 4:25 AM ![]() If internet videos with titles like "Supersonic Golf Ball to the Forehead" have taught us anything, it's that a slow motion chthonic mace to the dome is a weighty chthonic mace to the dome. So goes the thinking being Doom: The Dark Ages liberal dolloping of slow motion effects all over its melee attacks and parries. The FPS does away with the series' canned glory kills, so it's nice to take a split second of mud time to catch your bearings where you can. Still, the game isn't exactly shy about its application. I was watching a Doom 3 retrospective last night that talked about how the original copies of the game came with a note explaining that "Doom 3 is not for cowards!". By contrast, the amount of accessibility options and sliders in The Dark Ages, alongside Id saying that it was " a game for all Slayers!" is, you know, at least one nice reminder that games are far less twattish than they used to be. In some ways, at least. One thing those sliders don't allow for, however, is removing the abundance of slow motion effects. Once again, modders have our backs. Thank you, modders. That's my favourite back and I'd strongly dislike having to replace it. |

D3 Publisher and Monkeycraft's Yeah! You Want "Those Games," Right? So Here You Go! Now, Let's See You Clear Them! series of minigame collections, better known as Those Games now, are generally rather ingenious. The false mobile game ads' games, which typically are never representative of what's in those titles, become actual games in the compilations. The first two are rather solid! The third one, called Listen Up! We Tried to Make "Those Games" Even More Extreme! Some Things Have to be Learned the Hard Way! is a bit more specialized. While fun, Those Games Extreme is absolutely geared more toward people who finished the first two than a new audience.
This is still a compilation. However, this time there's a mix of titles from the past two installments. Color Lab, Number Tower, and Pin Pull from Those Games appear. These are the ones in which you sort colored liquid from test tubes, fight enemies in towers by picking the right ones to target first based on their number strength and your own, and one in which you pull pins in the correct order to help a person get treasure and avoid hazards. Those Games 2's Draw & Guard, Knock-Back Shooter, and Spellbinding Scroll show up. These involve protecting a cat by drawing lines to protect it from enemies, properly aiming in an enclosed areas to ensure a bullet ricochets to hit enemies, and attacking enemies by whittling down numbers while you gradually move forward toward a finish line. Aside from the increased difficulty, the only major difference is a change from a woman dealing with people in love with her to a war scene as Spellbinding Scroll became Survival Scroll.
At its core, Those Games Extreme is generally fine. In most of the situations, it feels like we're getting more levels for existing minigames that probably were among the most popular from the first two entries. There are 155 levels, which folks might appreciate. In general, they all sort of feel the same. In the cases of Draw & Guard, Knock-Back Shooter, Number Tower, and Pin Pull, I feel like the situations are perhaps a little more complex or involve a tad more thought to ensure you're going through the steps in the correct order or making wise choices.
However, in two cases I do feel like there's a little bit more to the minigames. In the case of Color Lab, I feel like it's a more positive change! Yes, you're still sorting liquids in test tubes to ensure each one only has one color in it. The changes make it feel like there are new approaches and really enhance the experience. Some colors may be hidden until you start sorting the liquids, which can really mess with plans. In other cases, there will be test tubes with obvious cracks that will shatter after being moved too often. Bonus points also come into play. It's easily my favorite game in the collection.

With Survival Scroll, I honestly hate the direction Those Games Extremes takes it. I'm sure some will appreciate it, since it becomes more like the ads with soldiers gradually gaining more troops, getting stronger, and becoming more well-armored before facing a foe at the end. It's also still pretty strategic and prioritizes reaction time. However, I think Spellbinding Scroll felt more creative by making it about captivating people and winning them over with your charm, rather than gunning baddies down. I considered it a more clever approach to the formulaic concept. So to get something that does look like everything else makes it feel a little less special.
I feel like Those Games Extreme is a more specialized entry in this collection. People new to the series would be better off trying the first or second installment. While some of those stages may be easier, you'd get a bit more variety. If you do like the past games and especially loved certain minigames like Color Lab, then it's worth looking into picking up.
Listen Up! We Tried to Make "Those Games" Even More Extreme! Some Things Have to be Learned the Hard Way! is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC.

Sony updated the page for the Stellar Blade DLC on the PlayStation website, and it goes over some of the Goddess of Victory: NIKKE character costumes and a Scarlet fight. It also noted there will be a specific shop, fishing for NIKKE items, and a shooting range minigame.
In the case of Scarlet, the NIKKE character will be a boss. It noted on the site that you get a costume, hairstyle, and song for beating her. While it didn't specify what these might be, in a past trailer we did see a tease that suggested Eve can dress as Scarlet, so perhaps someone would need to defeat the boss to earn that attire.
As for the shop, it will sell costumes and cosmetics in-game. A NIKKE character will run it. Those familiar with Liter will recognize her dog Volt, which will appear as the vendor there.
The March 2025 Stellar Blade Goddess of Victory: NIKKE DLC didn't show the Scarlet boss fight, but it did tease outfits based on characters from Shift Up's other game for Eve. For example, at the start of the video there's a Rapi outfit. (Not her Red Hood variant.) Alice, Anis, Dorothy, and Modernia outfits seem to be in the crossover add-on too.
Here's that trailer, as a reminder:
Stellar Blade is available for the PS5 and comes to the PC via Steam on June 11, 2025, and the Goddess of Victory: NIKKE DLC debuts in June 2025 too and is a part of the complete edition of the game alongside the NieR: Automata add-on. NIKKE is available on PCs and mobile devices now.

The Parks Fest event has some of the coolest rewards you can earn in Disney Dreamlight Valley, but unlocking them is quite a process, as you have to tackle many tough event duties. One of the many quests you need to complete is Craftily Ever After.
Figuring out what needs to be done for the duty is fairly tricky since its name is a vague hint. This quest isn't too tough to get done once you know what it's asking. Here's how to complete Craftily Ever After in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Table of contents

To complete the Craftily Ever After Dreamlight duty, you need to craft one Cinderella Popcorn Bucket. The title of this duty is a reference to the popular Disney phrase "Happily ever after," which is commonly associated with princesses like Cinderella. It's not a super obvious connection, so it's easy to get stuck on this task.
It's a pretty expensive item to make, and it requires lots of specific Parks Fest event items to craft. Here's a full breakdown of everything you need to do to complete this task.
How to craft Cinderella Popcorn Bucket in Disney Dreamlight Valley
![]()
The Cinderella Popcorn Bucket can be crafted using Green Buttons, Purple Buttons, Blue Buttons, and Red Buttons in DDV. You need quite a lot of each kind, so here's a full breakdown of all the required materials and how to get each one.
If you already crafted this bucket during a previous run of the event and don't want to gather all of the required Buttons to make it again, you can use the Uncrafting Station to disassemble and reassemble this item for the duty. This special machine is unlocked during The Uncrafting Station quest, which is the Cheshire Cat's level seven friendship quest.
Craftily Ever After reward in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Completing the Craftily Ever After duty gets you two rewards in DDV, which are the Cinderella Popcorn Bucket furniture item and the Cinderella Handheld Popcorn Bucket accessory. The former can be placed anywhere around your village as a decoration, while the latter can be equipped from your wardrobe as an accessory item.

There are some interesting trophies to unlock in The Precinct, and the Career Limiting Move is one that will require you to drive a vehicle and park it in the Chief's Space.
You'll come across plenty of vehicles as you level up as an officer by gaining experience points. This will unlock new police cars to utilize, but for this objective, you can use any vehicle. Park in the right spot, and you will be awarded a new achievement trophy.
How to park in the Chief's spot in The Precinct
You'll need a vehicle for this job, any will do. Want to use a garbage truck? Well, I haven't tested one of those yet, but the SUV worked, so you should be fine. Having a bigger car will help, since you may need to knock the chief's vehicle from its spot.
You'll need to enter the police station's parking area, so drive around it until you find the entrance and head in.
![]()
The parking spot may have an Orange muscle waiting against the wall (as shown in the image above), which is the Chief's car. The spot where it's parked is the Chief's Space/Spot, where you'll have to park your vehicle. If the car isn't there, no sweat, just look for the name plague on the wall that says "Police Chief."
The easy way is to roll back, line your car up against the Chief's, and just smash it. Yes, there's no subtlety about what you're doing, but the Chief's car isn't going to create space on its own. The only option is to keep hitting it till the Chief's car vacates the parking spot. Don't worry, he won't mind.
If you're really against a little car-on-car violence, then you could simply get in and move the chief's car, instead. But this privilege only comes once you've leveled up sufficiently, so it could take a lot more time than the first method.
Once the car has been moved away, carefully park your vehicle in the same spot. It's pretty easy to understand you're in the correct spot since it's marked against the wall. Park up and get out of the car. If the parking is done properly, it will automatically complete the achievement and add the relevant trophy to your collection.

Blades of Fire is a brand new game with its release date coming up in May, so if you're curious about it and want to know more, I cover it all in this article.
The demo is already available, which gives us the opportunity to test the gameplay a bit. However, the full release is coming pretty soon, and the countdown in the following section will help you to keep track.
Blades of Fire Release Countdown
The release date was announced along with the launch of the demo, which took place on May 15. The full launch will take place on May 22, which is roughly four days from the time of writing. The following table features the release timing across different regions.
Here's a countdown that will help you keep track of when the game launches worldwide. The countdown will hit zero at the same time across all time zones, as there's no regional launch at the time of writing. The full launch will go live simultaneously on all available platforms.
Blades of Fire Editions
Blades of Fire follows a slightly different pattern from the common market trend, as there's only one edition. The solo edition is priced at $59.99 (prior to any applicable discount), but there are pre-order bonuses available. If you decide to pre-order before May 22, here are some of the benefits you'll get.
The pre-order bonuses are available for both PC and consoles.
Blades of Fire platforms
Blades of Fire will be released on consoles and PC, but with some limitations. For starters, it will only be available for the current-gen consoles of Xbox and PlayStation. PC users will have to rely on Epic Games Store to purchase their copy of the title as it won't be released on Steam. The game won't be available on the Nintendo Switch, and there's no news of a possible Switch 2 port as of writing.

Many quests you can complete to earn lots of XP in Fortnite challenge you to find and explore certain locations around the vast island. One of these tasks asks you to visit different outposts, which can be tricky to get done if you're not familiar with them.
This quest is a fairly easy one to complete once you know where to find these locations, and it rewards quite a lot of XP for fairly low effort. It's worth getting done if you want to quickly progress through the battle pass, so here's how to visit different outposts in Fortnite.
Table of contents
What are outposts in Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle?
![]()
All outposts are fairly small Landmark locations you can generally find situated along roads. Since they're Landmarks rather than main POIs, none of them are marked by name on the map. Instead, the names of each location only appear briefly in the bottom left corner upon visiting one of these locations.
All outpost locations in Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle
In total, there are 15 outposts you can visit around the entire map. All of these locations are quite small and tricky to find if you don't know where they are, so here are the precise locations of each one.
![]()
Some of these locations have hostile Stormtroopers walking about. To avoid conflict, you may want to use a telephone booth to don a disguise before entering so you can blend in with them.
Visit different outposts in Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle
To complete the visit different outposts weekly quest, you need to venture to five outposts around the island. There are 15 to choose from, so you have plenty of options for getting this task done. You can explore five completely separate locations for this task or return to ones you've already visited if you work on it over the course of a few different matches.
It can be a bit tough to determine when you're actually at an outpost since they aren't named on the map. Look for the Landmark location pop-up in the bottom left corner to determine whether you're at one. It only appears briefly when you first enter an outpost, so make sure you're watching for it.
If you're looking for more XP after completing this task, there are plenty of other duties worth tackling around the island, especially discovering and completing story quests. Some good ones to complete are Jar Jar Binks' story quests, Leia Organa's story quests, Luke Skywalker's story quests, and Han Solo's story quests.

Dead Spells is another take on the popular Dead Rails, but with a bit of a fantasy / magical twist. The game is still relatively new, but there's a lot of stuff to know. If you're looking for a source of information, you've come to the right place with these Dead Spells Trello and Discord Links.
Dead Spells Relevant Links
![]()
If you want to mingle with the community and get the latest news about the games, here are some places where you can start:
Kicking things off, the Dead Spells Community Group "Personal Path" has about 11k members. There's actually a lot of engagement within this group, and you can even get a few codes if you scroll down here a bit.
Now, if you really want to stay in the loop and get news of updates as soon as they hit, then you need to join the Dead Spells Discord Group. This Discord group is pretty small as of writing this (about 2k members), but it's steadily growing and will likely gain a bunch of new members pretty soon. Here you can talk to other players, get the latest codes, and maybe even talk to the devs about what new features they're cooking.
There is also an official Dead Spells YouTube channel, but there aren't really any videos or trailers there yet, so we won't link it until there's actually something useful.
As for the official Trello board, there isn't any news of it coming out, yet, but if the game wants to gain traction like Dead Rails, and we're sure it does, it's only a matter of time before an official Trello board is out.
That's all there is to it. Have fun playing Dead Spells, and we hope you roll the best class. If you're looking for a similar game, but on water, check out Dead Sails.

The Cheshire Cat has some special rewards available for you if you tackle his Cheshire Cat Chaos event in Disney Dreamlight Valley. One of the most important parts of this event is finding and removing Cheshire Cracks.
These special cracks blend in with the environment quite well and are tough to spot even when you know exactly what you're looking for. You need to uncover quite a lot of them to progress in the event, so here's how to find Cheshire Cracks in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Table of contents
Where to find Cheshire Cracks for the Cheshire Chaos event in Disney Dreamlight Valley
![]()
You can find Cheshire Cracks randomly throughout all biomes around the main valley for the Cheshire Chaos event. They function similarly to regular digging spots, so where they choose to pop up is entirely random and looks different for each player. All of the biomes where they can appear are as follows.
Cheshire Cracks only appear around the main valley. If you have access to DLC worlds like Storybook Vale and Eternity Isle, you won't find them over there. Instead, stay only in classic Dreamlight Valley to hunt for them.
What do Cheshire Cracks look like in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
Cheshire Cracks look very similar to classic digging spots. They appear as small sparkling mounds of dirt on the ground. The only noticeable difference is that they have a slightly purple/pink color to them to match the Memory Shard inside.
How to remove Cheshire Cracks in Disney Dreamlight Valley
To clear away Cheshire Cracks, you need to equip and use your Royal Shovel to dig them up. Inside, you'll find a Star Coin or Memory Shard. The Cheshire Chaos event has a special memory that you can only complete by finding and removing enough cracks to piece together the entire image.
The task you can complete by digging Cheshire Cracks is called Calmer of Chaos. You have to find 10 Memory Shards to piece together the entire image, but it may take you more than 10 Cheshire Cracks depending on how many randomly choose to be Star Coins instead.
![]()
How often do Cheshire Cracks spawn in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
Cheshire Cracks spawn every 15 minutes. There can only be up to five present at any point, so if there are already five around your village, more won't spawn until you remove them. They can be fairly tough to find and sometimes tough to distinguish from regular digging spots, especially in shadowy biomes like the Forgotten Lands and Glade of Trust, so it's best to dig up all the mounds you come across to ensure you don't miss any.
Tips for finding Cheshire Cracks in Disney Dreamlight Valley
If your valley has lots of decorations, finding Cheshire Cracks is quite a tough task. There are a couple of tips and tricks you can use to make the process easier, though.
Next, you might work on finding Cheshire Paw Prints for the event. While you wait for more Cheshire Cracks and Cheshire Paw Prints to spawn, you may want to work on some Garden of Whimsy Star Path duties like giving gifts to a blonde and digging up a root vegetable with many eyes.

One of the more popular mascot horror games of recent years, Indigo Park, has just shadow dropped the first teaser trailer for its second chapter to celebrate a year since the first was released on Steam—and we are super excited.
While the trailer only shows a sprinkling of details (and no release date) its hard not to get excited when a new chapter drops in a series, not only to play it, but so horror-game theorists can wrap their head around the small glimpses to try and grasp at some idea of where the story is heading.
At the end of the first chapter, the main character Ed agreed to help Rambley restore Indigo Park to a working state before heading off to Oceanic Odyssey, an area in the park for all things underwater and home to the feral animal Finley, which we got a small glimpse of before the screen faded to blank. Now, thanks to the new chapter trailer, we have a better look at the underwater leviathan-looking creature, Finley, which we assume to be the main threat and boss of the second chapter.
The teaser trailer also revealed snippets of Oceanic Odyssey and the areas you will explore, You also get a glimpse of Rambley, who retains his 2D look under an Otter's sign, which, for those who don't know, is a cute nod to Rambley's voice actor, OtterBoyVA.
Outside of the odd sprinkle of level detail and obvious aquarium aesthetics, there isn't much revealed about the trailer that'll paint a picture for the direction of the new chapter, and as mentioned before, we are still without a release date. Though the game's creator, UniqueGeese, has advised fans to look out for more announcements involving the second chapter on their YouTube channel.
For now, if you want to get your Indigo Park fix, maybe head back to Steam and replay the first chapter (Especially if you haven't already done so yet) to gear yourself up for the second. If you do, maybe play with the lights on. No one would blame you.

It's the debate that isn't going away, and with the Switch 2 launch fast approaching, we wanted to peel off the band-aid that is the discussion of $80 games—and the discourse surrounding it.
Let me be clear first about my opinion of these new prices. I don't believe in $80 games, as I believe they make gaming unaffordable, especially during times when many people have limited disposable income. Though I must give Nintendo some credit for one thing, at least, which was making the digital versions of these games cheaper, even if it's marginal.
For the longest time, I've seen companies sell digital games for more than physical games, even though digital was always meant to represent a cheaper alternative to physical media. So, in my opinion, buying digital should always be cheaper than buying the physical counterpart. But I know that isn't shared.
I also believe that the rise of AAA games being sold for $80 will start to send people to alternatives, which I'm all for. Indie games or AA games like the fabulous recent release of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will gain more prominence due to the affordability of the titles and likely force big companies to have a change of heart or see sales decline. Or put their games on "sale" after the first few months turn a profit.
But enough waffling from me. I want to hear your opinions on the $80 games fiasco currently taking over conversations right now, with companies looking to follow Nintendo's new price point moving forward. What do you think of $80 games? Leave nothing out and let me know in the comments. I really want to see your opinions, no matter how diverse they might be!
After all, sooner or later, we will be back here talking about $90 or even $100 games, and the cycle will continue.
