Siliconera Sunday, February 8, 2026 9:00 AM Wonder Boy Manga Explores Humanity       Certain manga series follow multiple tales throughout their storyline, and Wonder Boy is a prime example. Like something like Cat-Eyed Boy, each chapter's narrative follows certain themes. However, they're not directly connected outside of involving a tale in the same sort of genre or with a similar type of topic. In the case of the first volume here, each situation involves the titular character and reader as observers watching humans in their defining moments that influence who they are and suggest insights into the nature of humanity and society as a whole. Like Cat-Eyed Boy, the Wonder Boy manga features an otherworldly observer who subtly inserts himself into different situations across different periods of time on Earth. In each one, the character is essentially a supporting cast member or an observer. The Wonder Boy isn't making major decisions. In some cases, he isn't propelling the story forward. But he will always be there, and he'll often interact with at least one of the people involved. As he does make his presence known or interact, we'll see how a certain element of human nature will be showcased and connected to either the protagonist he's tied to or people associated with them. For example, the first story is "Bansaku and Yuujirou". It's a period piece in which the Wonder Boy inserts himself into a family dealing with the after-effects of World War II, taking over the part of younger-brother Yuujirou and discussing the nature of people and the conflicts that arise over greed with older-brother Bansaku. He even gets into how the child's own family isn't immune. In this situation, he's more of an observer who almost provides an education of sorts for the human boy. We then see the two characters witness happenings together, and the Wonder Boy being there when the dust settles and, then later, when the two brothers potentially repeat patterns.  This also comes up in the second story "Emily and Charlotte," though the Wonder Boy is more active there under the name Edward. He happens upon two orphaned girls who were left at a boarding house and school for young women on the same day. He connects with each, with his suggestions and inspiration setting them toward certain futures and fates. With Emily, his advice feeds into her vanity and darker impulses, leading her toward a more twisted role. In the case of Charlotte, he opens a door of sorts that sparks her imagination, gets her writing, and even sets her down a more honorable path. It feels more like a tale in which he sowed seeds, then saw what grew based on human tendencies, and watched to see if he'd win a "bet." Wonder Boy is a manga of showing the true nature of people during various periods with an otherworldly entity observing and encouraging thing. People typically aren't at their best. They may even be at their worst. It almost seems like the title character even counts on that, but at the same time is fascinated when people change their fates and defy expectations too. Destructoid Sunday, February 8, 2026 1:42 PM The Baldur's Gate TV show should focus on the Dark Urge and Bhaal, because we need more serious fantasy in this world       Baldur's Gate 3 is going to be adapted into a TV show, with no involvement from Larian. While that itself is a bummer, a good number of talented folks have been brought on to bring the story to the little screens, likely twisting it into something different, original, and adjacent to the game rather than straight-up copying its plot. And they should model the show around the Dark Urge character and its homicidal god, Bhaal. The Dark Urge, for those who hadn't played the old games, was the central character of Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2. The spawn (offspring) of the murder-god Bhaal, the Dark Urge had to combat their nature and always stay on the run, avoiding the bloodfiend's goons and monsters along the way. Baldur's Gate 3 upped the ante for this character, giving you a lot of control over how they'll turn out. You could succumb to the urge, embracing your old self and restarting the path to chaos and carnage, or fight it out, accepting this new chance at a normal life, free from the freedom-promising shackles of Bhaal and his host of slaughter. The Dark Urge is my favorite storyline in BG3 and what I consider as "the way the game is supposed to be played." Screenshot via Larian Studios YouTube This storyline is perhaps the best-written and most dramatic of all the characters you can select. It allows for a totally custom character, but also one that has a semi-preset story where you are the one who alters parts of it. The human side to it, where one must wrestle with their own nature as something they did not choose to be, is a perfect dramatic theme for television. It's something that, while super close to its fantasy background and part of a broader fantastical world, separates itself from low-level, kid-friendly fantasy that most of the genre has become saturated with nowadays. The Dark Urge and Bhaal are serious, gritty, bloody, and even disgusting to a degree, but all of that plays into refining the tone of the story that leans more to the mature side rather than retaining the superficial glee of DnD fantasy. The very city of Baldur's Gate, too, is centered around Bhaal and his cult thriving underground in the sewers and ancient ruins, so even if the story doesn't follow that thread directly, it still has to make it a strong presence. At that point, since you're incorporating a fundamental aspect of the setting (the city), you might as well elevate your central plot and make it fit in with its surroundings, i.e., by making the main character(s) related to the city, its cults, nature, history, and culture. Without Bhaal and the Dark Urge as key components, I fail to see how just another Forgotten Realms story is going to be worth consuming. Then again, I'm cautiously optimistic to see how this'll play out, and God forbid I be wrong about something. I'll show you the best options for progression based on how the stat boosts and passives impact early, mid and end-game. Here's my Roblox Abyss race tier list and race reroll guide. Table of contents Roblox Abyss Race Tier List S-Tier Races A-Tier Races B-Tier Races C-Tier Races D-Tier Races How to Get Race Rerolls in Abyss Roblox Abyss Race Tier List The best races in Abyss are in the S and A-Tier and the only difference is that S-Tiers are always strong while A-Tiers require a bit of luck or finesse to get the most value. B-Tier races are slightly weaker but decent alternatives, C-Tiers are beginner options and D-Tiers are just weak and unusable. Let's analyze each race below individually and talk about its position in the tier list. Abyss Race Reroll Chances Common Race - 50% Chance (Regular Spin) - 3% Chance (Lucky Spin) Uncommon Race - 29% Chance (Regular Spin) - 27% Chance (Lucky Spin) Rare Race - 14% Chance (Regular Spin) - 38% Chance (Lucky Spin) Epic Race - 5% Chance (Regular Spin) - 21% Chance (Lucky Spin) Legendary Race - 2% Chance (Regular Spin) - 10% Chance (Lucky Spin) Mythic Race - 0.2% Chance (Regular Spin) - 1% Chance (Lucky Spin) S-Tier Races S-Tier Races Ranking Reason Race Stats Sea Angel Mythic • One of the best race in the game due to it being the fastest which is useful in any situation • That said it requires finessing it so that you remain below 50% oxygen to gain all the benefits • You also get a chunky damage buff scaling with your speed from all sources • Lastly, if you're ever about to die you can tube boost for free to escape • +10% Speed • +25% Oxygen • +15% Cash. • Last Breath Sprint While oxygen is below 20%, sprinting no longer consumes extra oxygen • Kinetic Wrath Gain bonus damage equal to 35% of your movement speed. • Abyssal Focus As oxygen falls below 50%, your focus sharpens, increasing catching minigame progress speed. This bonus scales with lower oxygen and caps when oxygen reaches 20%. Vampire Squid Legendary • One of the best races in the game allowing for massive sustain • The Oxygen and XP boost are nice but the lifesteal passive is what makes this strong • It essentially allows you to progress/farm drastically longer than other races without returning • This also indirectly helps with combat and tube boosting since you'll have a ton of oxygen • +20% Oxygen • +10% XP • Blood Siphon (15 seconds cooldown) When catching a fish, regen oxygen for 10% of the damage dealt Kraken Mythic • The best stat boosts for progression and farming • Also a massive 50% damage boost that you'll need to stack with hundreds of fish which is tedious but still strong • Plus, you have an extra life every 8 minutes which extends each run and allows you to overcommit safely • Unlike Spirit you explode dealing damage and heal to full oxygen when you use the extra life • Not the strongest race in the game but really useful overall Kraken Notes: • Kraken progression is not retroactive so once you roll it keep it in one of your slots • Damage stacks only while Kraken is equipped • Restarts if you reroll it • You can switch to a different race slot without resetting • +20% Weight • +15% XP • +15% Cash • Endless Depths Every fish caught increases Damage by +0.04% permanently (caps at +50%) • Leviathan's Legacy (8 minutes cooldown) After you die, instead of dying, regenerate 100% of your oxygen and deal 300% AoE damage around you A-Tier Races A-Tier Races Ranking Reason Race Stats Crab Epic • The best defensive race in the game behind Vampire Squid • Has a chunky built-in Oxygen and Damage boost that you don't have to stack • Iron Shell reduces a lot of damage and virtually gives you much more oxygen if you're lucky on the 1-in-4 rolls • The best beginner-friendly race • +15% Oxygen • +10% Weight • +10% Damage • Iron Shell 25% chance to absorb incoming attacks (negate all damage from the attack) Shark Legendary • Shark is just raw DPS which is quite strong but not necessarily the most important statistic like in The Forge • Also like in The Forge, Shark is similar to Minotaur where you get the most value on low HP/Oxygen which is hard to do • That said, unlike Minotaur, Shark gets the best DPS increase and more Tube boosting that are always available • Overall, very strong to have but it'll require some low Oxygen finesse to get the most value which isn't ideal • 20% DMG Increase • -0.4 Cooldown (faster attack). • Blood Frenzy When your Oxygen is below 30%, deal 30% more damage • Sea Sprint Tube boost consumes 50% less oxygen B-Tier Races B-Tier Races Ranking Reason Race Stats Spirit Rare • Overall a very useful beginner-friendly race to have • You get a little DPS boost with the faster attacks and some cash • But the main part is that you can play safely and overcommit in harder areas since you have an extra life • While it's not a full heal extra life like Kraken, it has a much lower cooldown than Kraken • -0.1s Cooldown (faster attack). • +5% Cash • Last Breath (3 minutes cooldown) After you die, instead of dying, you regenerate 30% of your Oxygen C-Tier Races C-Tier Races Ranking Reason Race Stats • Keep this race in your second slot on hand to access the infinite illumination in dark areas • Just going off of that use this is B-Tier • That said the rest of the stats aren't anything special and you generally want to use a better race most of the time • -0.2s Cooldown (faster attack). • +5% Cash • Hunter's Instinct 10% chance for double drops when catching fish. • Abyssal Light Illuminates surroundings in darkness • Oxygen is always nice but the passive is very niche • Not only are you not going to get hit that much if you play well, it's not that much value either way • Decent to have early but it gets outclassed fast • +10% Oxygen • Spiky Body Reflects 20% of incoming melee damage back to the attacker • Arguably more commonly useful than Puffer since you can crit 1-in-10 times • The speed boost also allows you to maneuver enemies well and get back to safety faster • That said, overall, it's not the mechanically strongest race to have and you'd be much better off with Spirit or higher • +8% Speed • +15% Weight • Piercing Horn 10% chance to deal double damage • A nice little beginner damage boost to get you started that you should reroll as you progress • +10% Damage • -0.2s Cooldown D-Tier Races The D-Tier is for races you should generally never use unless you're a beginner with no rerolls. They're mechanically weak and while extra Speed from Monkey or extra Oxygen from Fish/Coral can be useful starting out, it gets out-scaled quickly. Just roll for higher-tier races once you farm enough race rerolls. How to Get Race Rerolls in Abyss Luckily Abyss has a free-to-play race reroll system. You get race rerolls in Abyss by farming Star Shards which you get by progressing and completing Achievements. You can check these at the top in the Achievements menu. You can then reroll your race in the Race menu at the top for 100 Star Shards or do a Lucky Reroll for 450 Star Shards which boosts your chances for higher rarity Races.
