The magic behind Wordle is, of course, that there's only one puzzle a day. Combined with the ease with which players can paste their spoiler-free results to social media and group chats, it's that the whole world is all playing the same puzzle, the same day, that makes it so alluring. But screw that! You can now play…

Dying Light 2, Techland's latest open-world zombie RPG, has officially launched on most major platforms. You're probably playing it right now.      Hogwarts Legacy may be aiming for a September release

It's been a long time since there's been any news on Hogwarts Legacy, the RPG prequel to the whole Harry Potter franchise, and fans are undoubtedly wondering where the highly-anticipated game has got to. Now a new leak and the reveal of a "making of" tie-in book both suggest that the Hogwarts Legacy release date may be down for September time.

If you need a history lesson, Hogwarts Legacy was announced back in 2020 as an 1800s-set prequel to the Harry Potter/Wizarding World series and - like pretty much every Warner Bros game announced back then - suffered multiple delays, although it's currently still down for this year. As for when in 2022, that's anyone's guess.

There's now been a surprising hint as to when the game might hit, as a tie-in book called The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy has been revealed - and it's due for release on September 6, 2022. It's written by Jody Revenson, who has done several Wizarding World companion books - but most importantly, if that's down for early September, then Warner Bros presumably intends to release it around the same time as the game.

This Dark Souls mod overhauls the Remastered experience

Even though From Software's latest epic action-RPG Elden Ring is about to launch, we shouldn't forget that the studio's classic Dark Souls Remastered continues to receive regular fan content - and now the fan-created Old Lords 2.0 mod promises to overhaul the game and create a "fresh and unique experience".

In the absence of a Dark Souls 4, fans have been busy creating all sorts of excellent mods for the various Dark Souls games - including an entire player-created sequel, Nightfall, that finally came out last month, and a Soulslike version of Among Us.

The Old Lords mod (thanks, DSO Gaming), on the other hand, takes the existing Dark Souls Remastered content and overhauls it to create a very different campaign. According to creator LordOrange16, in terms of inventory items the mod adds "plenty of new rings, consumables, armour, weapons" and more to the game, but it also "overhauls and remixes" enemy and boss placement, sometimes "drastically" to create a new and interesting experience.

What if: Hexen got a Doom style remake?

Come in, weary gamers. Huddle around my candlelit face as I regale you with a story of three forgotten heroes. You may not have heard of them, not least because they may not have had names. But those of us who knew FPS games when they were dank, murky, and existed in two-and-a-half dimensions, know of the fighter, the cleric, and the mage who used to rip and shred their way through the filthy labyrinths and dungeons of Hexen.

It was a simpler time, before shooters concerned themselves with meaningful stories and choices. But though we may not remember why our three heroes embarked on their rampageous quest back in the dark times of 1995, we do remember breaking the skulls of many-headed beasts with our spiked gauntlets, the lightning-imbued hands of the Mage, and Wraithverge - the staff that sent forth furious spirits to tear apart our foes like an unholy BFG.

In agreeing to purchase Activision-Blizzard for $68.7 billion last month, Microsoft acquired the Hexen IP as well as Raven Software, the creators and developers of Hexen (and its predecessor Heretic). That's not all. Raven Software is now under the same publishing roof as id Software - which was snapped up as part of Microsoft's Bethesda acquisition last September - the original publisher of Hexen as well as the creators of the id Tech engine on which it was made.

     Skate 4 will be

It's been a couple of years since the announcement of Skate 4 - or whatever the latest game in EA's skateboarding franchise will be called - and now the publisher has stated that user-made content will be "at the very centre" of the new Skate's design, along with confirmation that it will be "launching soon".

Other than confirmation that Skate 2022 - which is just currently called "Skate" - is in development, the last news about the reboot came in August 2021. The game was confirmed for a PC release, which was good, but was still apparently "in the early stages of development" - suggesting it was a long way off.

Well, it may not be as long a ways off as we expected, as in EA's recent earnings call (thanks, TweakTown) CEO Andrew Wilson suggested that Skate 4 would be out "soon" - so it should release sometime this year. Wilson also states that user-made content will be the "centre" of the Skate reboot's design.

Path of Exile has hit its highest player count in nearly 10 years

Popular action-RPG Path of Exile is one of the best free-to-play games on PC and yesterday it just beat its concurrent player count record - giving the RPG its highest player count since its release back in 2013, which seems to be primarily thanks to the launch of new expansion Siege of the Atlas.

Path of Exile released around nine years ago in 2013 - although it had betas before that - where it hit a concurrent player count of around 32,000 players and stuck around that as its record for several years. Around 2017 came the huge Fall of Oriath expansion alongside new Leagues, and Path of Exile has regularly been pushing its player count up ever since.

Yesterday, February 4, brought the release of the latest expansion Siege of the Atlas, and with it came a fresh surge in players - so many, in fact, that it broke Path of Exile's all-time concurrent player count on Steam after nearly ten years going.

Heaven Burns Red

Heaven Burns Red, a new RPG from Clannad and Angel Beats! developer Key, will launch on February 10, 2022. The information comes courtesy of the game's final pre-release trailer, which Key uploaded to its official YouTube channel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUuv6OErMUc

The trailer sets up the premise of Heaven Burns Red. A mysterious alien life form called "Cancer" is attacking humanity, and conquered most of the Earth's surface. With mankind on the brink of calamity, it develops a new weapon called Seraph. Only young women with certain talents are able to wield Seraphs, and those capable are assembled into Seraph Units to go to war against the Cancers.

One such Seraph-wielder is Ruka Kayamori. She's the captain of Seraph Squad 31A, and former guitarist/vocalist for the famous rock band She Is Legend. She needs to balance her duties as a Seraph-wielder with her desire to return to her band alongside her squaddies. The game itself will feature visual novel-style storytelling segments. These will include character dialogue, bespoke event art, and choices. Field exploration segments will allow characters to explore the areas of humanity's last refuge, and 3D battles will show off the characters' abilities against the Cancers.

Check out another trailer from November 2021 showing off character abilities and art from Seraph Squad 31X.

Heaven Burns Red was first announced in 2019 as Key celebrated its 21st anniversary. As the game is a mobile RPG, development was a collaboration between Key itself and Wright Flyer Studios, which developed Afterlost - Shoumetsu Toshi. The announcement also touted the return of Jun Maeda as creative head for the first time in 13 years. Maeda's previous work was Little Busters! Maeda wrote the main scenario and produced music for the game. After several delays out of its initial 2020 launch window, Key confirmed a final February 2022 window, then narrowed to next week as of this trailer.

Heaven Burns Red launches in Japan for iOS and Android on February 10, 2022. Localization plans have not yet been detailed.

FFXI Mog Wardrobe Master Level Update

Square Enix released details on the next February update for FFXI, and it includes an expansion to the Mog Wardrobe as well as an increase on the Master Level cap. Additionally, The Voracious Resurgence quests and other content such as the Abuscade are getting new rewards and battles. The new update will release after server maintenance on February 11, 2022.

Owners of the Mog Wardrobe premium service will get additional wardrobe slots once the update releases. All players will receive more space to register macros in their macro books, as well as an increase in registerable equipment sets. These expansions will also come alongside a new, improved Mog House menu UI.

Furthermore, the Master Level cap will increase from 20 to 30. Square Enix notes that these new 10 levels will require more exemplar points than previous levels. To this, FFXI producer Akihiko Matsui reveals that the dev team is looking into ways to adjust the EXP grind. Specifically, Matsui mentions that the team may add new places to grind rather than adjust existing ones.

Finally, the Ambuscade is getting new battles in the Normal and Intense difficulties, as well as new rewards for each. The Normal battle features a Corse, and the Intense battle features a Taurus. Completing the Ambuscade will reward players with Corse-themed gear.

Until the new update drops, players can continue participating in the Alter Ego Extravaganza event. The Escha Silt compensation period will also last until the February update server maintenance.

FFXI is immediately available on PCs. The February FFXI Master Level update will go live on February 11, 2022.

quintessential quintuplets game

Mages will release a second The Quintessential Quintuplets game on June 2, 2022. The full title of the game can be translated to The Quintessential Quintuplets: The Five Memories Spent With You. There will be two versions of the game. The normal version will cost ¥8,580 ($74.50), while the premium version will cost ¥11,800 ($102.40). [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

It is still unclear just what the difference will be between the normal version and the premium version of the The Quintessential Quintuplets game. According to the leak, it will be an adventure game focusing on the characters' graduation trip.

Mages also developed and released the first game, The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬: Summer Memories Also Come in Five. The setting for that one was a deserted island, and it followed an original story. Additionally, the premium edition of that game came with a five-disc drama CD.

The Quintessential Quintuplets: The Five Memories Spent With You appears to focus on the movie versions of the characters. In late 2021, TBS Animation announced that the movie's official debut date will be May 20, 2022. This date is for the release in Japan, and there is no news as to whether or not the movie will have a worldwide debut.

The added units include Nahobino, Amanozako, Jack Frost, Alice, Cú Chulainn, Loki , Cerberos, and Hua Po.
