Epic Games won't patch Fortnite to run on Valve's Steam Deck

The Steam Deck's release date is just around the bend, but it looks like Valve's handheld gaming PC will miss out on Fortnite. Spotted by PCGamer, Stormy178 quizzed Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney about the shooter's Linux anti-cheat compatibility on Twitter. In response, the Unreal Engine creator clarified that the company isn't planning any related updates.

In an additional reply, Sweeney says, "We don't have confidence that we'd be able to combat cheating at scale under a wide array of kernel configurations, including custom ones." In other words, while both Easy Anti-Cheat and Battleye are now Steam Deck compatible, the company seems to be more concerned about the open-source nature of Linux.

It's worth noting that Epic Games owns Fortnite's EAC software, prompting fans to question whether Sweeney trusts his "own product." The CEO then continued to hammer home his concerns about SteamOS by suggesting his lack of anti-cheat confidence stems from Fortnite's size.

Former Assassin's Creed producer working on a

We've now got a better idea about what former Assassin's Creed producer Jade Raymond's new studio is working on. Raymond, who previously worked as a producer on a few of the earlier entries in the major action-adventure game series, unveiled her new studio Haven just under a year ago, of which she is founder and CEO. While there were few details to share about the studio's work at that point, we now know the studio's cooking up a "persistent and evolving online" game.

French-language news site Le Devoir, which is published in Montreal - the Canadian city in which Haven Entertainment Studios is based - has published an article giving us some insight into the studio's aims. Via Google translation, the piece notes that Sony asked the new independent studio to present "three large-scale game projects" to it, with the best idea then getting the funding to go ahead into development.

It seems Sony was enthusiastic about more than just one of Haven's ideas, though. "They finally asked us to do two, or even three, but we decided to focus on a first title to start," Raymond says (via translation). This title, Le Devoir says, is "a persistent and evolving online environment accessible by a PC or a PlayStation console".

Steam Deck – release date, price, specs, and benchmarks

Valve is entering the handheld gaming PC market with the Steam Deck, which launches on February 25. Prices start at $399 USD / £349 GBP for the 64GB version, but you can grab a Steam Deck specced with 256GB or 512GB of NVMe storage for $529 USD / £459 GBP and $649 USD / £569 GBP, respectively.

In terms of specs, the Steam Deck is powered by a custom AMD APU built on the Zen 2 microarchitecture. However, this particular chip features RDNA 2 graphics. This is the same microarchitecture used to power team red's best graphics cards, which should help it run everything from indies to the latest AAA games. Storage capacity will vary between models, but they all come equipped with 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

Instead of Windows 11, the Steam Deck comes with Valve's new SteamOS 3. It's a Linux-based OS, but you'll be able to install other operating systems if you'd like. However, Proton compatibility has dramatically improved to the point that you probably won't need to.

The best YuGiOh Master Duel starter deck

Wondering what the best YuGiOh Master Duel starter deck is? The new YuGiOh digital duelling platform is here, and card game veterans, anime fans, and new players alike are diving in to try it out.

After downloading the free-to-play game and completing the basic tutorials, you receive 1,000 gems and the option to choose one of three starter decks. Each of the three starter decks belongs to a different playstyle and uses a specific type of summoning, which prompts the all-important question - which starter deck is the best?

The answer to this question, of course, depends on your level of familiarity with the game. If you're new to YuGiOh, you may want to stick with a simple deck for a while as you learn. On the other hand if you're a more experienced duelist, you may want to know which starter deck has the best cards for future use. Fortunately, your choice here doesn't matter too much, as you can eventually unlock all three starter decks as you play through the missions. Here's everything you need to help you choose your first YuGiOh Master Duel starter deck.

Lost Ark early access release time confirmed

MMORPG-meets-ARPG Lost Ark has been generating plenty of hype leading up to its worldwide release, and while it's not officially out until February 11, it's a modern game - of course you can pay for a few days of early access. Founders pack owners will be able to get in three days ahead of everyone else, so here's what you need to know for the Lost Ark early access release time.

Pre-loads began on Monday, February 7 at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm GMT, so you can jump right in when the time comes. Don't worry if you haven't bought a founders pack for early access, though, as pre-loads are available for everyone. Even if you don't intend to play the game until later this week.

While Lost Ark has has been available in Asia for some time, it's coming to the West courtesy of Amazon Games, marking the company's second big step into the MMO space, following New World. You've got five Lost Ark classes to pick from when you start, from a burly warrior to a sneaky assassin. The Lost Ark devs have been showing them off in the build up the game's big release, so you can make an early call on which you want to start with.

League of Legends patch 12.4 notes – New champion Renata Glasc, Shockblade skins

It's that time again, League of Legends fans. Patch 12.3 has made the leap from the MOBA game's PBE to live servers, which means it's now turn for a new testing cycle to kick into gear. League of Legends patch 12.4 has now arrived for its fortnight-long round of testing and tinkering, and there's already plenty to check out.

The big news this patch is the arrival of yet another new champion. Hot on the heels of Zeri's release with League of Legends patch 12.2, Renata Glasc has now made her debut on the PBE. Known as the Chem Baroness, she's a powerful figure with "an advanced technological heritage" from Zaun, who has risen through the ranks to become the region's wealthiest chem baron - "a business magnate who built her power by tying everyone's interests to her own". Mysterious, persuasive, and with what sounds like a bit of a ruthless streak, Renata Glasc is being launched as a support champ. You can check out all of her abilities, stats, and skins in the notes below.

Elsewhere this patch, we've got some new Shockblade skins on the way for champions Kassadin, Shen, and Qiyana, and the new-and-improved Firelight Ekko - which was previously delayed - is now on the way.

Apex Legends Season 12 release time explained

Apex Legends: Defiance - the official name of Season 12 - is out today, and while we basically know when it's out, the developers haven't officially confirmed that information just yet. That said, it's a pretty safe assumption that the Apex Legends Season 12 release time will land at the same moment as all the seasons that have come before, so if you've forgotten those details, we're here to help.

The Apex Legends Season 12 release date will bring us a new legend with Mad Maggie, as well as a new ranked system and a "sabotaged" version of Olympus. We're also getting a new 9v9 mode called Control, a series of login bonuses, and an array of balance changes.

One of the more noteworthy changes comes to Crypto, who can now use his drone without needing to control it. He's also had some quality-of-life tweaks made to his kit. The devs explain that "the goal of these changes" is to make his kit more "accessible and engaging", as his pick rate was fairly low. Caustic receives the other noteworthy change, as his Nox Gas Traps can now be broken after they've been deployed.

Here's how all five Lost Ark classes work in action

The Lost Ark early access release time lands very soon, and even if you're not picking up a Founder's Pack, the wide free-to-play launch is still coming this week. There are five Lost Ark classes, each of which has its own set of powers and abilities. So which one should you choose if you're jumping in? Luckily, the developers have spent last few weeks working with a variety of YouTubers to provide extensive breakdowns of how each class works in action.

The Assassin is a melee fighter that focuses on mobility and burst damage at the expense of health and defense, using demonic power to fight the demon hordes. As with the other classes, Assassin eventually splits into another advanced class.

The Shadow Hunter can shapeshift into demonic forms, building a meter with human form attacks in order to power up those abilities. The Death Blade is more complex, wielding three swords to deliver advanced combo moves, building up a meter for supercharged power.

How to mod and repair weapons in Dying Light 2

So you want to know how to repair weapons in Dying Light 2? Unfortunately, you'll need to reckon with the fact that your favourite rusty pipe or two-handed glaive is going to break eventually. Weapons in Dying Light 2 have a durability stat and unlike the first game it's not a simple case of just slapping on a repair kit to keep it going. There are no Dying Light 2 inhibitors for swords, sadly.

Repairing weapons in Dying Light 2 is not a formal mechanic as there are so many weapons available. The general assumption is that when you find a weapon you use it until it breaks, and then move on. But what if you find one you really like and want to keep using it as long as possible?

We've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that it is possible to repair weapons. The bad news is that not all weapons are repairable, and even those that are have a limit on how many times they can be patched up. Here's everything we know about repairing weapons in Dying Light 2.

"I've made it," monologues a goblin, donning chainmail and spiked shoulderpads in the changing rooms. "Finally. After all these years of hardship. After everything they told me. I will show them that even I can be the best player."

The pitch suitably set for bathos, no series fan will be surprised by what happens next. No sooner has our protagonist left the tunnel than he's launched skyward by a backhand from an ogre. In the match's opening moments, he sees more airtime than the ball. And shortly afterwards, he's a footnote, prone in the grass as much larger - and better armed - humanoids pound the earth around his limp form.

Evangelion Wedding Ring

An Evangelion wedding ring has appeared, and it will cost ¥110,000 (about $954). The ring's design is based on the Spear of Gaius from the Evangelion 3.0+1.0 film. Purchases are open via the U-Treasure website, with orders open until December 31, 2030. Shipping will take approximately 8 weeks.

The rings are made of platinum and come in a variety of sizes. It's important to note that sizing standards differ from country to country, so the size numbers listed on the U-Treasure website may not be the same in other countries. The width of the band itself ranges from 2.7mm to 6.1mm, and the thickness is between 1.5 to 2.7mm. You can also choose to add an engraving of your choice. As long as it's under eight symbols total, you can engrave anything from Japanese symbols to the alphabet, periods, and ampersands.

The Spear of Gaius is a new weapon that appeared in Evangelion 3.0+1.0. Fittingly, the spear represents the will of humankind, similar to how the Spear of Longinus represents "despair" and the Spear of Cassius represents "hope." The wedding ring incorporates the Spear of Gaius' three-pronged design. U-Treasure states that the ring can be used both as an engagement ring as well as a wedding band.

You can get a better look at the Evangelion wedding ring in the screenshots below:

[gallery ids="915364,915363,915362,915361,915360,915359" link="file"]

The Evangelion Spear of Gaius wedding ring is immediately available via the U-Treasure official website. Each ring will cost ¥110,000 (about $950). Purchase of the ring will arrive within 8 weeks of ordering.

Liquid air coolingCooling your computer can be tricky to do properly, and it all starts with one decision: do you decide to go for liquid cooling, or use an air cooler? Computers are complicated machines with lots of different parts that all work together in tandem. But arguably, the most important aspect of any PC that you need to keep on top of is cooling. Keeping your PC as cool as possible will help it last longer and stay at max performance by avoiding thermal-throttling issues. The reality is that cooling your PC can be a complicated process. It isn't just the coolers that matter. The type of case you have, the designs of individual components you're using, and the layout of the inside of the case will all contribute to airflow. Combining a good case with proper cooling can help improve the temperatures of all other components inside the PC. So, while liquid and air cooling do offer performance that is different enough to warrant comparison, there are also a lot of other factors at ...
